With a casual, laid-back feel, the joint uses counter service and sells their prime meats by the half pound, allowing customers to sample a little of the cuts before they go ahead and purchase.

This city assures visitors a wealth of fun activities and attractions that will satisfy the whole family. It boasts a diverse food scene, lots of shopping, and family fun around every corner. From bowling, escape rooms, trampoline parks, museums, and fun with crayons, you’re sure to find many things to do that your family will love. Being only minutes north of Dallas and under a 30-minute drive from the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Plano serves as a top destination for families to visit for enduring fun year round.

1. Crayola Experience Is For Everyone

Where can the whole family enjoy hands-on fun together in Plano? At the Crayola Experience — that’s where! I was a little nervous, thinking my almost 12-year-old grandson wouldn’t enjoy this experience because of his age, but to my surprise, he wasn’t the only one who had a great time. I, too, enjoyed getting to use my creative side. We participated in every hands-on activity we could, and I got to act like a kid alongside him. We colored squishy things, made a mask, got our picture taken in a cartoon style, colored it, and watched a short, live presentation on how crayons are made. After all that, I paid a little extra to have a wax impression made out of my grandson’s hand. That was a sight to see, and everyone in line was marveling over the process of how his hand turned into hard wax by dipping it in wax then ice-cold water (3 times). Now, that’s a souvenir!

This is a place to get your kid’s creative juices flowing with over 22 hands-on activities. We even got to take the things we made home with us. Food options are available as well as a retail store once you exit the experiences. Oh, yes, parents, it’s a whole store full of gifts and treasures. The store is located inside The Shops at Willow Bend shopping mall. Follow the covered parking area signs, and it’s right inside the doors.

Pro Tip: Allow at least 3 hours to enjoy all the fun. But that will depend on your group. We were there for three solid hours, and it was just us two.

2. Enjoy A Day At Southfork Ranch

The picturesque setting that the Ewings’ called home on the original TV series Dallas from 1978 to 1991 is still gorgeous after all these years. I remember being glued to the television, watching the show every week with my family. The series is no longer, but Southfork Ranch remains alive and well. It offers home tours of the main house, trail rides, and horseback riding lessons. There’s also a museum that depicts the TV show with recreated scenes, photos of all the actors, and many memorabilia. You’ll enter through the visiting center before heading to the museum and the trail rides, but let me warn you, the gift shop isn’t your ordinary visitor center gift shop — it’s almost as big as a department store — offering clothing, memorabilia, gifts, monogrammed merchandise, etc. If you’re a huge Dallas fan, there is a souvenir waiting for you!

My grandson and I enjoyed a great trail ride with a few other people. But what made our ride even better was our trail boss had to tend to several newbies and let my grandson and I lead the way. We definitely have been on a horse a time or two.

Pro Tip: After the trail ride, you are free to roam the premises and check out the longhorn cattle.

3. Take A Nature Walk At Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve , with 3 miles of paved hiking trails and 3 miles of unpaved hiking trails, poses a beautiful walk along the creek as you explore the open prairie and forest, all the while watching for wildlife. If you can, bring your bike to ride the 2.8-mile off-road bike trail. Plus, enjoy a family picnic while you’re there under the covered pavilion and let the kids play on the playground. Pets are welcome on a leash, and restrooms are available, too.

4. Hike Oak Point Park And Nature Preserve

Plano’s largest park, Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve has mostly been undisturbed by man and is the perfect spot for visitors to enjoy nature, wildlife watching, and native plants. The park provides 3.5-miles of concrete trails and 5 miles of soft trails along Rowlett Creek. I suggest an early morning hike to catch the sunrise. You are welcome to bring your own kayak, canoe, or paddleboard to enjoy out on the pond.

Pro Tip: The park is in the vicinity of Go Ape Zipline (see below). That right there is a full day of outdoor fun!

5. Go Ape Zipline And Adventure Park

Ziplining is all the craze lately, and Plano offers a good one. Adults and kids 10 and older will enjoy climbing the treetops, zipping across to the next line, then repeat. I did this back when it first opened, and though it was exhausting climbing all those stairs to get to the next zip line, I enjoyed it very much. Go Ape Adventures is located inside Oak Point Park, so when you’re all done there, zip on over to another adventure!

6. Heritage Farmstead Museum

Heritage Farmstead Museum is a living 4.5-acre piece of history depicting life in the Victorian Era from 1890 to 1920 on the Blackland Prairie. Bring a picnic lunch, stay for a tour, or a special event. Activities such as ground tours, house tours, wagon rides, and feeding the chickens are available. This is a great place to take the younger kiddos.

7. Shop Till You Drop In Plano

There’s no shortage of retail space in Plano. It’s a paradise for shoppers, and the serious shopper will come from miles away to spend the whole day, if not the weekend, to find those perfect shoes and handbag! You could spend a full weekend shopping and still not see it all. Two of the best shopping areas are The Shops at Legacy and Legacy West . With a large variety of stores, each has enough to keep you busy for the better part of a day. And, don’t forget about The Shops at Willow Bend , where Crayola Experience is located. If that’s not all, there’s Preston Park Village, Preston Towne Crossing, and Preston Village Shopping Center.

8. Experience Legacy Food Hall

Meet me at the table! Legacy Food Hall is a 3-story food court with 20 restaurants opened for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. What a superb place to grab a meal if you have picky eaters in your bunch. One place, 20 eateries or so to choose from — wow! From brisket to tacos to sushi and more, you’ll no doubt find your favorite meal. Then everyone meets at a picnic-style table in the courtyard for family togetherness. After your meal, grab a treat… in the same area! Look for live music on the weekends.

9. Enjoy Waterfront Dining At The Boardwalk Granite Park

For a very casual “restaurant row” with indoor seating with air conditioning, indoor-outdoor seating with fans, and outdoor seating with a nice waterfront view, head to The Boardwalk Granite Park . And of course, there’s plenty of kid-friendly food and games to play for the whole family, like cornhole. The Boardwalk is a row of eateries to suit everyone’s palate. We enjoyed two sit-down dinners there. I told my grandson he could have the first pick where he wanted to eat. He chose Fork&Fire, where he had a “grownup” meal of shrimp and scallops. The next night, we ate at The Union Bear. He ordered a huge helping of homemade mac & cheese, and I devoured what was left the next day. The food at both places was so good, we would definitely go back there to eat.

10. Stay At Hilton Granite Park

If you come to Plano for more than a day, you are steps away from it all when you stay at the Hilton Plano Granite Park . This is especially true if you’re coming to the city for some shopping and to enjoy a meal or two overlooking the water. The Boardwalk is steps away from the hotel, and the Legacy West shopping center is minutes away. This is where we stayed for the weekend and enjoyed swimming in the pool and lingering in the beautiful hotel lobby during downtime. We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at the Carso restaurant inside the hotel, but we headed to The Boardwalk when the evening rolled around. And, best of all, after a long day of fun in Plano, you don’t have to venture far for dinner — you’ve got lots of choices within steps.

After all, these are some of the most famous tourist attractions in The Lone Star State, and it’s understandable why they would be on many itineraries. As you can imagine, however, there is a lot more to Texas than these few renowned sites, and venturing off the beaten path just might take you to a place you find unexpectedly enjoyable. One place that fits this description is Plano, a city located about 20 miles north of Dallas. There, you will discover an abundance of shopping and dining options as well as attractions for the whole family. We had the pleasure of visiting recently and got inspired to share our insights about all the great things to do in Plano.

Where to Stay in Plano

When it comes to accommodations, there is definitely no shortage in Plano. You can find pretty much everything, from luxury and mid-range to more budget-friendly options. During our visit, we stayed at Cambria Hotel , which was a nice place in a great location that is also dog-friendly. Oh, yes! That last one was important, since we brought our 75-pound golden retriever Sammy along! After all, pups need a family getaway, too!

Cambria Hotel had plenty of amenities to offer, including an outdoor swimming pool, gym, laundry room, great WiFi access, dining area, and bar. I don’t know about you, but for us this is more than enough, considering we normally spend our days out and about, exploring our destination. Plano was no different since there was plenty we wanted to see and do.

We were surprised to find out how much Plano has to offer. Even though we tried to experience as much as possible, there were still plenty of things we didn’t get to! So, here is what we put together to make your planning easier.

Shopping and Dining

Plano certainly has no shortage of shopping and dining choices, and if that’s your thing, you would feel right at home here.

Legacy West

You can start by going to Legacy West , which is the main shopping district in town. It’s packed with numerous stores featuring major brands, as well as more than 20 restaurants. This is also where you’ll find the Renaissance Hotel , a convenient place to stay if you plan to spend most of your time in this area.

Admittedly, we kept coming back to Legacy West, as we really enjoyed walking around and trying different places to eat. Our food quest began at Legacy Hall , which is a huge, three-story dining hall. Here, gathered under one roof, you will find a variety of eateries and bars. It’s probably best to walk around first and look at all the choices before you make your final selection. We opted for chicken shawarma wraps from Shawarma Bar , and they were delicious.

Haywire Restaurant

Haywire Restaurant is another major dining spot at Legacy West, and you should definitely stop by, even if you aren’t super hungry. Just go up to the third floor, grab a drink or some happy hour appetizers, and enjoy the city views from the open patio. Be sure to also check out the silver airstream while up there!

Granite Park

After you’ve explored Legacy West,  head over to the Granite Park Boardwalk . This is another nice area that features a variety of waterfront restaurants with indoor and outdoor seating. We had lunch at the Union Bear Brewing Co. and really liked the atmosphere there. Regardless of where you decide to eat, be sure to take a stroll along the boardwalk as it’s really quite enjoyable.

Other Shopping and Dining Options

Legacy West and Granite Park are certainly not the only shopping and dining options you will find in Plano. Some other places that might be worth checking out include The Shops at Willow Bend and High Street , which is the largest indoor antiques mall in the Dallas area. A few specific food experiences we really loved were getting lunch at Original Chop Shop at The Shops at Legacy , and ice cream from Milky Treats and Meccha Matcha . Keep in mind that Meccha Matcha serves mostly matcha green tea delights, so if this isn’t your thing, try Milky Treats instead. I, personally loved the soft serve matcha ice cream they have!

Outdoor Fun

Now that we covered shopping and dining, let’s check out some of the fun outdoorsy things to do in Plano! For us, spending time outside in nature is always on the itinerary, whether we are in a large metropolis, smaller city, or out in the country.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

A really lovely natural area in Plano is Arbor Hills Nature Preserve . This is a 200-acre park with trails for hiking and biking that take you to beautiful open spaces alternating with “tunnels” of lush green trees. You can make your way to the observation tower inside the park and see views of the city from the top. If you are traveling with younger kids, you might be happy to learn that there is a large playground right near the parking lot, where they can jump, climb, and have fun.

We visited Arbor Hills with our pup, Sammy, and enjoyed a very pleasant mid-morning walk. When we arrived, it had just stopped raining, so the air felt especially fresh.

Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve

Another really nice place to visit is Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve , Plano’s largest park. It covers 800 acres of beautiful natural environment, and features about 8 miles of paved trails and 5 miles of soft hiking trails. Unfortunately, when we visited Oak Point, we discovered that the creek that runs through the park had flooded overnight due to heavy rain. The main trail behind the Visitors Center was covered in knee-deep water, which prevented us from exploring any further. We managed to get to the small lake near the parking lot, but everything else was basically inaccessible. It looked like a very beautiful park, and we would definitely love to return here with our bikes and properly see the rest of it.

While in Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, you might want to have a different kind of adventure. If you enjoy hanging out high up among the trees and flying on a zip line, Go Ape! is the place for you. There you will find a challenging treetop course with exciting obstacles along the way, a zipline that’s over 400 feet long, and eye-popping Tarzan swings!

During the summer, when the temperatures are high, going for a swim might be one of the best things to do in Plano. Head to The Texas Pool , and prepare to have a splashing good time. This is not just an ordinary swimming pool, but one that’s shaped like the state of Texas and filled with saltwater. Built in 1961, The Texas Pool is currently listed in the National Register of Historic Places. So, pack up the swimsuits and take a dip in this unique historic landmark!

Historic Downtown Plano

Plano isn’t only a great hub for shopping, dining, and outdoor activities, but also a place where you can enjoy history and art. Historic Downtown Plano features a lovely storefront area, along with colorful outdoor murals, painted on the sides of several buildings. Haggard Park is also really nice to visit while in downtown. There, you will find a large playground for the kiddos and the historic Interurban Railway Museum , which like The Texas Pool, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The museum is free, and it offers electricity and science exhibits, as well as exhibits on the history of Plano and the Texas Electric Railway. If this is one attraction you really want to see, be sure to look up the hours of operation before going. On the day we were there, it was closed, however we still enjoyed checking out the interurban railway car 360 displayed at the front.

Other Fun Things to Do in Plano

Indeed, the City of Plano does have a lot to offer to its residents and visitors. While this list can’t possibly cover every single activity and attraction in the area, there are a few more worth mentioning.

If you really enjoy outdoor art, and want to explore more of Plano’s art scene, head to Legacy Central. Right at the southwest corner of Legacy Drive and U.S. Highway 75, you will find a number of gorgeous murals by Adrian Torres. We absolutely loved the bright colors and the style of the artist. While this is not exactly a tourist area per se, coming for the art was totally worth the trip.

One attraction that the whole family might enjoy is Crayola Experience , located at The Shops at Willow Bend. There, the kiddos can participate in a variety of fun and creative activities that are sure to keep them busy for a while.

Play Street Museum in nearby Frisco is another interesting  place to visit with younger kids. It features nicely set up play areas for interactive pretend play.

Plano Balloon Festival

Last but certainly not least, Plano is the home to the annual Central Market Plano Balloon Festival . Every year in early Fall, an array of colorful hot air balloons take to the sky to delight the people, who gather to watch them fly. The festival also features a number of races, balloon rides, as well as different food and merchandise vendors.

Wow, this town has tons to see and do. I would love to check out that electric train museum. That streetcar looks really cool. Also, I see your family likes ice cream as much as my family. Someone up here in Boston needs to make that green matcha ice cream for the Red Sox and their green monster wall at Fenway Park.

Yaaay! We LOVED the nature preserves. Very beautiful and peaceful! And, YES! People were wearing masks everywhere they were supposed to. We didn’t see any issues with that at all. Sadly, only the few people that refuse to wear a mask make the news. But the reality is, the vast majority of people are very compliant…At least, this is what we have seen!

I’ve never been to Plano Texas. That Matcha soft serve from Mecca Matcha looks intriguing. Ice cream always seems to top the list of my daughters favourite thing to do when we travel. I do like a combination of shopping, good eats and nature when I travel, so it is great to know these options if we ever find ourselves in this area.

I would say Plano really is a good mix of everything, a great place to check out, especially if you already know Dallas and are getting a bit tired of the traffic there! We had a great time hanging out in Plano!

Rental Car and Parking

Like most things to do in Texas with kids , experiencing all that Plano has to offer is easiest with a rental car . The city is spread out across many highways and neighborhoods. You can get to and from each one with ease in your own car.

Public transportation is plentiful throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and Plano is no exception. Dallas Area Rapid Transit [DART] provides bus service throughout parts of the city. There is even a light rail system that can carry you from one city to the other.

If you are in town exploring things to do in Plano with kids, please be mindful of the nature of mass transit. There might be times of crowding, extended wait times, and/or walking from point A to point B. Oftentimes, this all can happen in the Texas elements [read: it can be hot down here]. If that doesn’t sound ideal for you and your family, consider getting a rental car .

Ride-sharing with services like Uber and Lyft is also abundant in Plano TX. This is a great option if you’d like to get around the city quickly without having the responsibility of your own car.

If Legacy West pops up on your list of things to do in Plano TX, you’ll see it described as a lifestyle center. But what that really means is that it has all the amazing things you’d ever want to see and do in the city and after a visit, you will want to live there.

OK, maybe that was just me. But you will definitely enjoy over 20 delicious eateries, luxurious shops from all your favorite brands, and even curated pop-ups from small businesses in the area. Families aren’t left out of the fun. Their family-friendly special events make this an ideal thing to do in Plano with kids too! 5601 Granite Parkway Plano, TX 75024

Granite Park Plano is just one of the trendy, new areas of Plano that offer plenty of fun, dining establishments, and even corporate workspaces. A stop at Granite Park Plano should definitely be on your list of things to do in Plano TX if you’re looking for casual eateries in a social environment.

Stroll The Boardwalk at Granite Park , pop into one of the seven waterfront restaurants, and take in the scene. The area also has plenty of entertainment with live musical performances, vibrant mural art, and lawn games. They also host a multitude of events from yoga to a weekend farmer’s market that’s popular with both visitors and locals alike.

[Parent note: Granite Park could arguably be a space that isn’t particularly kid-friendly. But our kids [ages 10 and 13] did well and enjoyed themselves there. For that reason, I’d still recommend it as one of the fun things to do in Plano with kids as well.]

There are very few things that can grab my heart on a list of things to do in Plano TX like food. And Legacy Food Hall has it in abundance! As the name probably implies, it is located within the Legacy West district. But even with its location in such a bustling area, I would argue that the food hall is a destination unto itself.

Over twenty restaurants, five full-service bars, live music, an on-site brewery, and a luscious green space called The Box Garden make up this culinary destination. Grab some wings from Roots Chicken Shak , brisket nachos from Brisket Love , and ice cream from Bourbon Vanilla Ice Cream Co , and thank me later!

1021 E 15th St, Plano, TX 75074

Travel back in time with a casual stroll through Downtown Plano ! Many of the buildings in the area maintained their historic roots and can be dated back to 1896. You really could fill an entire afternoon walking the brick streets that are lined with shops and taking in the sights.

But there are tons of shops and activities in the area too! There are restaurants, coffee spots [like our new favorite place 1418 Coffee which is seriously a must-visit for fellow espresso lovers], local shops, and more. If the performing arts are your thing [and why wouldn’t they be], there are tons of art opportunities from plays to live music in Downtown Plano as well!

If you want to add this to your list of things to do in Plano with kids, be sure to visit Downtown Plano’s Haggard Park ! There are also trains in the area [including the Interurban Railway Museum ] that kids would love.

Street art is such a beautiful way to see the soul of a city and Plano is no exception! Visit Plano makes finding the art installations in the city an easy task by providing a public art map . Luckily, the Plano Balloon Festival has had the distinct pleasure of bringing these aerial joys to the area for over 40 years. Not only do you get to witness several balloons created by pilots all over the state but it is a full-blown festival.

There’s live music on the main stage, family-friendly activities throughout, aerial performances, and so much more. And did I mention the festival food? There are tons of delicious eats from food truck style booths all over the Plano Balloon Festival . If that’s not your thing, you can bring in your own food too.

Even though this is a general list of things to do in Plano, we couldn’t forget about the kiddos! We are, after all, a family-run website . Our girls [ages 10 and 13] accompanied us for everything we’ve already listed so it is totally kid-friendly depending on the ages and interests of your kids. But here are some things to do in Plano with kids that are specifically for them.

Hours of fun in a colorful wonderland filled with interactive exhibits for kids ages 2-12? Yes, please! The Crayola Experience Plano is one of the most unique things to do in Plano with kids. Visitors get the chance to make their own custom crayon [I made a beautiful blue crayon and named it “Spring Break Blue”], sculpt creations from modeling clay, create unique wax art pieces, and even color an illustration with their face on it.

But it’s not all colors and crayons! There’s also a jungle gym, video air hockey, gem mining, and so much more. This place was definitely designed with the little ones in mind but in my opinion it’s a ton of fun for the entire family.

Pinstack in Plano is arguably one of the most fun things on this list of things to do in Plano with kids. It is an indoor entertainment megaplex in the heart of west Plano with tons of family-friendly activities like rock climbing, foosball, video games, and, of course, bowling. There are also bumper cars, laser tag, and a high ropes course.

If your family is like mine and is ALL about the eats, Pinstack has you covered there too with a chef-inspired menu. With dishes like a 36″ cheese pizza and a twenty-dollar burger [complete with bacon-wrapped jalapenos], there is something for everyone in the family to eat their way to a good time.

It wouldn’t be a Spring Break Family trip if we didn’t include at least a little bit of heritage travel . Learning the history of the area, even just a small part, makes exploring the city for things to do with kids in Plano more meaningful. And, plus, the Heritage Farmstead Museum , is just plain fun!

Families can learn all about the history of North Texas while touring a functional farm. Sit in an old-school classroom, milk a [plastic] dairy cow, see clothes worn by farmers back in the day, and feed the free-range chicken around the property. This living history farm is a fun and educational afternoon for the entire family!

Add discovering Texas history to your list of things to do in Plano with kids with a visit to the Interurban Railway Museum ! This free museum has interactive exhibits on the history of the City of Plano, the Texas Electric Roadway, and the science behind it all. There’s a model train exhibit, a hands-on electricity display, and even an actual railway car right in this Downtown Plano museum.

Oh, and did I mention, that admission to the museum is FREE? Total win!

Whether you’re taking a solo trip, vacationing with girlfriends, or exploring the city for things to do in Plano with kids, it is the perfect place to stay.

April showers bring bluebonnets! It’s that time of year to embrace the splendor of Texas's iconic state flower.

Traditionally, bluebonnets begin to bloom from mid to late March through April, with slight variations depending on the weather. With spring looming and temperatures climbing, it's time to chart our bluebonnet excursions.

Back in 1901 , the 27th Texas State Legislature officially designated the bluebonnet as the state flower. The 1930s witnessed a surge in bluebonnet presence, courtesy of the Texas Highway Department's beautification project, which involved sowing bluebonnet seeds along the roads we traverse today.

Two of the five Texas bluebonnet species are native to the state: L. texensis and L. subcarnosus. The former, commonly known as the Texas Bluebonnet, are what you are likely to spot throughout Collin County.

Lord of Life Lutheran Church

Out front of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church at 3601 W 15th St, Plano (close to Medical City Plano), there's a small but abundant bluebonnet field, which is currently in bloom. 

Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve

Every year Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve is home to bluebonnet blooms, especially near the amphitheater. The park is perfect for a day trip, so pack a picnic and enjoy the scenery.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

Arbor Hills is one the best places to enjoy North Texas’ native flowers, grasses and wildlife. This time of year bluebonnets are popping up throughout the area, but one of the best places to find them is actually outside of the preserve. The right of way along Parker Road is a great spot to spot some bluebonnets.

Fun Things to Do in Waco Texas for a Great Day or Weekend Trip

The City of Waco is an easy 2-hour (or more depending on traffic) drive from the DFW metroplex, heading South towards Austin and San Antonio.

Deep in the heart of Central Texas, this city has become a very popular destination, thanks in part to Joanna and Chip Gaines’s hit HGTV show, Fixer Upper.  Fans from all over the country make their pilgrimage to Magnolia, which made the city ranked No. 2 on Tripadvisor’s list of top destinations on the rise for 2018.

Magnolia Market at the Silos

A fan or not of the HGTV show “Fixer Upper,” you’ve got to check this place out. Two huge silos and a 20,000 sq ft barn are both filled with Joanna Gaines’ home good items.

From rugs, vases, frames, metal signs, candles, pots, and mugs to blankets and a lot more, you may bring some home.

The complex also includes a garden and garden store, a lawn for lounging and playing, food trucks, and a bakery. Check the website for tips on visiting since they have implemented new guidelines to keep everyone safe. 

Waco Tours  

This company will show you around Waco and all the things the city has to offer. You choose your tour: Classic Tour, River Cruise, or a Private tour for your family or group.

You get to see many Fixer-Upper homes and visit the sites from the TV show that put Waco on the map. Most importantly, they have a local crew who knows the city so well and love what they are doing!

Dr. Pepper Museum  

Dr. Pepper Museum, located within a historic 1906 bottling building just a few blocks from Magnolia Market.

A visit shows you the complete story behind America’s oldest soft drink brand and teaches some useful lessons on the amount of sugar content they have, and the way that they advertised the Soda to the masses over the last few decades!

Have you ever wondered why the original Dr. Pepper bottles included the numbers 10, 2, and 4? In 1920, studies showed that people experienced daily energy drops at 10 am, 2 pm, and 4 pm. So, Dr. Pepper promoted those times for you to drink Dr. Pepper to get you going for the day!

There are a number of cool exhibits, some of them interactive which is great for the Kids. Over 3 levels, it also includes some flashbacks of advertising reels, and packaging examples which shows how the brand evolved over time.

Their Gift Shop also has some fun Dr.Pepper items, including fun shirts and memorabilia for the hard-core fans out there!

While you are there enjoy an Ice Cream float in their 1950’s themed Cafe, which leads to a classroom where you can book a “DIY – make your own soda” experience, which our 11 and 14 year old loved doing with us.

Be sure to book this experience ahead of time, as numbers are limited.

Cameron Park  

Cameron Park is a 416-acre municipal park near downtown, and Brazos River is where Waco celebrates life!

It offers many activities for the whole family, from hiking, biking, picnicking to fishing, golfing, or just relaxing. The park also contains Waco’s 52-acre lush landscaping zoo, the Cameron Park Zoo .

The Zoo is smaller than the Dallas Zoo and Fort Worth Zoo and much less crowded, which will appeal if you have smaller kids.

There are some playgrounds and there’s Jacobs ladder, lovers leap….They also have new animal statue installations which are very cool. Waco Mammoth National Monument

The Waco Mammoth National Monument is a paleontological site and museum where you can see 24 Columbian mammoths and other mammals from the Pleistocene Epoch.

How cool is that!

Waco Suspension Bridge and Riverwalk Area

This is a historic Suspension Bridge completed in 1870 and remains a legendary icon of downtown Waco. The bridge was built with a cable supplied by the John Roebling Co., who built the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. It is worth checking out!

The Riverwalk includes approximately seven miles of multi-use, lighted trail that loops along both banks of the Brazos River.

It stretches from Baylor University to Cameron Park and passes underneath the Suspension Bridge.

Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum  

The official historical center of the Texas Ranger with a mission to inspire appreciation of the Texas Rangers.

This Museum focuses on the actual Texas Rangers, not the baseball team!

If you love learning about Cowboys and the American West, you’ll enjoy a visit to the National Cowboys and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

Texas Sports Hall of Fame  

Home for more than 300 Texan inductees includes displays of famous sports souvenirs such as Mildred (Babe) Didrikson Zaharias’s golf clubs, Willie Shoemaker’s riding boots, and Bobby Morrow’s Olympic gold medal for track and field from the 1956 Melbourne Games.

The facility also has theaters that show films and rare sports footage, and programs on coaching sports management or research.

It is also home to the Texas Tennis Museum and Hall of Fame and the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame.

Homestead Craft Village

There are many activities to enjoy at the Homestead craft village, including hayrides and a visit to the livestock and the garden.

Mayborn Museum Complex at Baylor University

If you’re a lover of Museums, this natural science and cultural history museum is all about the Central Texas area.

For dinosaur and archeology-interested kids, they have exploration stations for geology and natural history and the Waco Mammoth National Monument Exhibit at the Baylor University Campus!

It’s tiny and has been around since the 1940s – not much healthy about it but it’s a classic Waco spot. The suspension bridge is iconic and we love the Dr Pepper Museum. Plano named one of the '2024 Best Cities to Live in America'

PLANO, Texas - A new report finds that Plano , Texas is one of the best cities to live in America.

Plano finished fifth on the "2024 Best Cities to Live in America" list from Niche.com .

In order to make the list, cities were required to have a population greater than 100,000.

The site's city rankings are based on several different factors, including public schools, housing, crime & safety, nightlife and diversity.

Plano got an A+ grade for its public schools and for being "good for families."

"Living in Plano offers residents a dense suburban feel and most residents own their homes. In Plano there are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and parks," the report says.

Plano's worst ratings were for crime & safety, cost of living and outdoor activities, for which it got a B-.

The top city on the list was Naperville, Illinois , a suburb of Chicago.

Plano was not the highest-ranked city in Texas. The Woodlands, outside of Houston, finished in second on the list.

"Eclipse Across America," will air live Monday, April 8, beginning at 2 p.m. ET on ABC, ABC News Live, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo WILD, Disney+ and Hulu as well as network social media platforms.

On April 8, 2024, a historic total solar eclipse will cast a shadow over parts of the United States, prompting a mass travel event to the path of totality -- from Texas to Maine and several states and cities in between.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth and, for a short time, completely blocks the face of the sun, according to NASA .

The track of the moon's shadow across Earth's surface is called the path of totality, and to witness the April 8 total solar eclipse, viewers must be within the 115-mile-wide path. Eclipse travel

In the U.S., 31 million people already live inside the path of totality, bringing the celestial phenomenon to their doorsteps, Michael Zeiler, expert solar eclipse cartographer at GreatAmericanEclipse.com told ABC News.

But for individuals outside of the path, investing time and money are needed to experience the event in totality.

Eclipse chasers, or umbraphiles, are individuals who will do almost anything, and travel almost anywhere, to see totality, according to the American Astronomical Society .

"There's a very active community of solar eclipse chasers and we will go to any reasonable lengths to see solar eclipses anywhere in the world," Zeiler said. "All of us are united in pursuing the unimaginable beauty of a total solar eclipse."

Bringing together both eclipse experts and novice sky watchers, the total solar eclipse on April 8 is projected to be the U.S.'s largest mass travel event in 2024, according to Zeiler, who likened it to "50 simultaneous Super Bowls across the nation."

"When you look at the number of people expected to come to the path of totality for the solar eclipse, we estimate those numbers are roughly the equivalent of 50 simultaneous Super Bowls across the nation, from Texas to Maine," he said.

In the U.S., the path of totality begins in Texas and will travel through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan will also experience the total solar eclipse, according to NASA.

Warby parker is giving away free solar eclipse glasses at its stores in the united states through april 8. here's how to see if a store is near you:.

The race is on for skygazers to get their hands on a pair of solar eclipse glasses before the big day on April 8 , and many people may be turning to Warby Parker .

The glasses retailer based in New York City has previously announced that beginning Monday April 1, it will be giving away free certified solar eclipse glasses at its stores in the United States. Not a bad offer for those worried that shipping and delivery times may make online orders a risk so close to the upcoming total solar eclipse itself.

And because Warby Parker has more than 240 retail locations across the country, there's a good chance would-be eclipse spectators will have a store close by if they're willing to make the trip.

Here's what to know about where Warby Parker stores are located and how to find one nearby before the first North American total solar eclipse since 2017 blankets much of the U.S. in uncharacteristic darkness.

What to know about eclipse glasses: Solar eclipse glasses are needed for safety, but they sure are confusing

Where are Warby Parker stores located?

Warby Parker began handing out the free glasses today at its stores across the country and will continue to do so until April 8, when the moon will pass between the Earth and sun and appear large enough to block the sun's disc.

To limit the chance of supplies running out, each family may receive up to two eclipse glasses, which are manufactured by American Paper Optics .

In the United States, the path of totality will begin in southwestern Texas at 1:27 p.m. CT and will end in Maine at 3:35 p.m. ET.

There are 13 states directly on the April 8 total solar eclipse's path of totality, all of which have Warby Parker stores with the exception of New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. Here's where you can find them:

If a store runs out of glasses, the company will provide a free eclipse pinhole projector. For those who don't live near a store, a do-it-yourself pinhole projector is available on  the company's website .

Why eclipse glasses are recommended

Compared to regular sunglasses, proper eclipse glasses are 100,000 times darker to block nearly all visible, infrared and ultraviolet light and protect our sensitive retinas when looking upward near the sun.

That's why experts widely recommend them for  those who will be watching  as the upcoming solar eclipse crosses North America.

Plenty of fakes and scams are out there, so the American Astronomical Society has taken on the responsibility of guiding American consumers to the safest glasses .

The organization maintains  a curated list of approved vendors  of solar eclipse glasses and its been updated to give priority to North American manufacturers for the upcoming astral event. Products you purchase that are listed on that site are guaranteed to be  in compliance with  the highest international safety standards.

Those standards are set by the International Organization for Standardization, which only vouches for solar eclipse glasses that are dark and strong enough to filter out a certain amount of the sun's harmful light.

What else to know about the April 8 total solar eclipse

A  total solar eclipse  offers the unique opportunity for skygazers to  witness the spectacular astral display  with the naked eye – but only when the time is right.

Eclipse glasses are still very much needed for most of the show, so make sure to come prepared,  according to NASA .

But when the moon moves completely in front of the sun and blocks its light, you'll know it's safe to fully take in the dazzling display. That moment is what is called "totality," whereby uncharacteristic darkness falls and all but the sun's outermost layer known as its corona makes a rare appearance to us here on Earth.

Hundreds of cities in  13 states are on the path of totality  for this year's total solar eclipse, which will pass from southwest to northeast across North America. You won't want to miss it, as this is the last such eclipse in North American  until 2044 .
