I Sailed On Royal Caribbean’s President’s Cruise, And Here’s Why I Would Do It Again

[ BEYOND the 615 – Travel Feature]  What’s the President’s Cruise on Royal Caribbean ? It’s a special, annual cruise that the President & CEO of Royal Caribbean International , Michael Bayley , plans a fun-filled, week-long cruise onboard one of Royal Caribbean’s modern, innovative ships and travels on along with the  Executive Staff to celebrate all things Royal Caribbean with their most loyal cruisers.

Anyone can book this cruise.  No invitation is needed to sail on it, but it depends on your tier level with Royal Caribbean’s loyalty program, the Crown & Anchor Society , as to what special events onboard for the week you’ll be invited to take part in.

There were plenty of fun activities for everyone onboard, regardless of loyalty tier level, to enjoy every day.  Plus, there were more intimate, exclusive events that week planned for the two highest tiers: Pinnacle Club and Diamond Plus that included cocktail parties, trivia with the Executive Staff & hosted by Super Mario, Common Ground meeting with the president, sharing memories & memorabilia from past Royal Caribbean cruises with the President and Executive Staff by individuals, and a fun pool party.  There were also daily activities reserved for only the highest and most loyal tier of the Crown & Anchor Society , Pinnacle Club , with daily meals shared together and exclusive surprises for them.

Loyalty gains you special privileges, perks, and recognition onboard every Royal Caribbean cruise throughout the year with their loyalty program, Crown & Anchor Society , but during the annual President’s Cruise , your loyalty is uniquely-rewarded in different ways and taken to a heightened level depending on your tier status with them.

Each day I received surprises and special theme memorabilia to take home with me. Pictured are a few of the fun gifts I was given onboard during the President’s Cruise. July 2023 – Photo credit: Patrice Majors | BEYOND the 615 (part of FOCUS on the 615)

Each day I was treated to a fun gift in my cabin or at an event that included a President’s Cruise-themed magnet on my cabin door to greet me on embarkment day along with my themed cowboy hat in the color of my choice at the cruise terminal, a bottle of champagne with a special note thanking me for my loyalty, a President’s Cruise-themed insulated bottle to take home, themed beach bag, a chocolate bar from Royal Day at Costa Maya, and a limited release 25th anniversary baseball hat.  It was so much fun to open my cabin door to find special treats left for me.  There were also daily drawings for luxe prizes that everyone onboard the cruise was entered in to at the largest events that week.

Watch a short video of highlights HERE .

Now in its 6th year , this year’s President’s Cruise took place on the beautiful Allure of the Seas , part of Royal Caribbean’s oasis class of ships, from July 23-30, 2023 to the Western Caribbean ports of Roatan, Honduras, Costa Maya, Mexico and Cozumel, Mexico.

Sailing out of Royal Caribbean’s brand new cruise terminal in Galveston, Texas, this President’s Cruise promised to be bigger & bolder than previous President’s Cruises with the much-awarded cruiseline celebrating 25 years of the Crown & Anchor Society loyalty program, a new, state-of-the-art cruise terminal, and the most phenomenal comeback of all the cruiselines following the pandemic shut down back in 2020 as their stock prices continue to soar and prepare to launch 2 brand-new ships in 2024 (The highly-anticipated Icon of the Seas in January and Utopia of the Seas in July .)

http://focusonthe615.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/20230807_023726.mp4 The oasis class is currently the largest class of ships in the world out of all the cruiselines, featuring: Wonder of the Seas (newest, launched March 2022), Symphony of the Seas , Harmony of the Seas , Allure of the Seas , and Oasis of the Seas .  With the final ship in this innovative class to be unveiled in July 2024 , Utopia of the Seas .

This was my first President’s Cruise to have the pleasure of sailing on, but it definitely won’t be my last if I can help it.  I can say without hesitation that this was my very favorite cruise I have ever been on in my 30 years of cruising .  Being a long-time fan of Royal Caribbean since my very first cruise ever onboard their then state-of-the-art Sovereign of the Seas back in 1993, I was sailing as a Diamond Plus tier member with their loyalty program, Crown & Anchor Society .  I have so many past cruises to compare this one to, so saying it was my favorite is no small feat.

As an added special treat, 10-time GRAMMY Award winner & musical icon, Chaka Khan , was onboard sailing all week with her family and band.  She performed an exclusive concert twice while sailing during the 7-night voyage.  Only a limited number of guests were able to see her perform in-person in the ship’s Amber Theater , but the concert was livestreamed all across the ship for special viewing parties in various venues onboard for all guests onboard to enjoy.  You can watch some clips from her performance onboard HERE .

I had access to most of the special events planned, including seeing Chaka Khan perform live onboard this mammoth vessel, which was one of the highlights of the cruise for me.  Hearing her iconic hit songs again and seeing her perform in-person brought back so many great memories for me as a teenager growing up in the 1980’s, which was during the heighth of Chaka Khan’s career.  She still has an incredibly-powerful voice after all these years and puts on a great show.  I couldn’t help myself as I stood and sang along to “I’m Every Woman”, and I was out of my seat dancing for most of the show, as well.  So much fun!

This special cruise included a milestone silver anniversary celebration of 25 years since the creation of the Crown & Anchor Society , which offers the best perks for loyalty out of all the cruiselines, in my opinion.  Everyone onboard was able to enjoy this beautiful, silver-themed celebration in the ornate  Royal Promanade .

There was the fun day at the port of Costa Maya where Royal Caribbean took over the entire port to celebrate Royal Day with free food, drinks, and entertainment at every turn that all guests onboard got to enjoy.  You can see some of the highlights of the celebration HERE .

The Royal Roundup , a country music-themed party held in Studio B , was a big hit among guests as drinks were served and people took to the dance floor for some fun linedancing doning their complimentary President’s Cruise cowboy hats that we all received on embarkment day at the new cruise terminal in Galveston as we prepared to sail away later that day.  A great time had by all for some fabulous, boot-scootin’ fun!

Another highlight was the Garden Spritz party I got to enjoy along with other Diamond Plus tier members in the Central Park neighborhood of the ship, which was beautifully-decorated with touches of orange since sponsored by Chandon for this special occasion.

The Central Park neighborhood is always one of my favorite places to visit because it is so beautiful and a wonderful place of tranquility to escape to for a nice dinner at one of the specialty restaurants, a peaceful stroll, listen to some jazz music, or to enjoy a nightcap whenever sailing on one of Royal Caribbean’s oasis class ships only.

There is just so much I could write about, but I’m afraid this article would become a long novel if I go on about it much longer.  So, I’m going to wrap it up now! I would book this particular themed cruise again and again in a heartbeat.  It was a level of amped up fun that only Royal Caribbean International , its President and his  Executive Staff knows how to truly bring!

This cruise had everything, even all-you-can-eat lobster tails with a full, fresh seafood spread available for all guests on the first day in the Windjammer Cafe along with specialty procured excursions filled with unique experiences designed for the President’s Cruise only, like the Island Jam with Michael Bayley , held at the beautiful Turquoise Bay Dive & Beach Resort in Roatan, Honduras featuring an all-you-can-eat, mouthwatering spread of local favorites, fresh coconut water served in handcrafted coconuts with the President’s Cruise logo emblazoned on it, local music, dancing, and tasty tropical drinks with little umbrellas served by an attentive staff on sugar white sand beaches overlooking clear, turquoise-colored water.  It was a slice of paradise for the day that I never wanted to leave!

If you are looking for an all-inclusive vacation that will appeal to the entire family, you can’t go wrong with a Royal Caribbean cruise onboard one of their 26 ships, but especially on an oasis class ship like Allure of the Seas .   From great food, included in the cruise ticket cost per person, full Broadway shows like “Mamma Mia” in the Amber Theater , an aerial, acrobatic, highdiving, water-themed spectacular show in the Aquatheater that is a must-see (on oasis class ships only), an ice skating rink by day turned into an entertaining ice skating show inside  Studio B featuring elite level ice skaters from around the world, comedy club featuring rotating featured comedians, highly-organized  by staff kids programs for all ages, a surfing simulator, pools, hot tubs, waterside, a zip-line, arcade, movies, shopping, live music in various nightclubs, dance classes, theme parties, parades through the Royal Promanade , trivia, bingo, full-access ship & kitchen tours with brunch, shipboard activities designed for athletes &

RCI-Royal Caribbean announces President's Cruise (ship Oasis OTS) in summer 2024

CruiseMapper logo

RCI-Royal Caribbean International has revealed its plans for the next President's Cruise, which will be held in Europe.

During the 2023 President's Cruise, Michael Bayley (RCI's President and CEO) announced the dates and location for the 2024 President's Cruise.

Last year, a vote was taken among the passengers onboard the cruise, where they had to choose between a Caribbean voyage on Allure OTS from Galveston Texas , or a European voyage. The crowd favored Allure. However, this year, instead of asking for a vote, a video was prepared for the announcement.

Before revealing the details in the video, Michael Bayley asked the crowd to guess which ship the cruise would be on. He dropped a hint that they had already organized President's Cruises on 60% of their fleet. The decision to host a cruise in Europe came from the feedback of their Crown & Anchor members, who expressed a desire for a Mediterranean cruise instead of the traditional American ones.

The 2024 President's Cruise is scheduled to take place on the Oasis OTS  on June 23rd, 2024. This 7-night Western Mediterranean voyage will begin from Barcelona Spain , and include stops at Palma De Mallorca, Spain ; Florence/Pisa ( La Spezia ), Italy; Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy ; and Naples / Capri, Italy . This marks a special emphasis on exploring Europe during the President's Cruise event.

Cool Cruiser

Does anyone have any details on The Presidents cruise on the Allure out of Galveston? Any news on special entertainment or entertainers booked?  There are usually a number of special events, parties and goodies in your cabin each evening.

I generally can do without special events and parties in my cabin each evening.

However if I ever feel inclined for them I just need to place a pineapple upside down on my cabin door.

Haha

Behind the Scenes of the Entertainment on Odyssey of the Seas

Get an inside look at the tech-forward shows and immersive experiences from the head of entertainment..

Catch jaw-dropping and high-tech performances that blur the line between virtual and physical realities at Two70.

When it comes to entertainment and immersive activities, Royal Caribbean’s show-stopping lineups are head and shoulders above the rest. Odyssey of the Seas , the latest of our game-changing ships to set sail, is no exception. From original, high-tech shows and live music to sky diving and bumper cars, there’s no shortage of adventures when you sail on this ship from South Florida to the turquoise waters of the Caribbean and our private island destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay .

We spoke to the person behind it all, Nick Weir , senior vice president of entertainment and a cruise industry veteran of 25 years. He gave the inside scoop on the boundary-pushing productions he and his team have created for Odyssey , plus the variety of activities for all types of guests, from kids to parents and grandparents.

Read on for the ins-and-outs and for a glimpse of what goes into making it all happen:

royal caribbean president's cruise 2023 entertainment

The head of entertainment for Royal Caribbean, Nick Weir, discusses new innovative entertainment on board.

Q: What’s your background and how did you get into the maritime industry?

Nick: I got into cruise partly because my parents were in the business. They were early adopters and really saw the potential of the industry early on. Because of them, I grew up on ships, so cruising is in my blood.

I didn’t think I’d join the family business at first, so I studied science at university. Then I went into entertainment, ending up in the U.K. television industry as a game show host and working off-screen. Eventually, I went to Las Vegas to operate an entertainment firm with clients like Andre Agassi and Robin Williams.

But through it all, I still had a love for cruising. I was even a cruise director in my early years. When this opportunity with Royal Caribbean came, it was a natural fit—I knew a lot about entertainment and the technology that now pushes the boundaries time and time again.

royal caribbean president's cruise 2023 entertainment

Friendly competition is the name of the game at the next-generation SeaPlex, the largest indoor and outdoor activity space at sea, on Odyssey of the Seas.

Q: What is some of your favorite entertainment on board Odyssey ?

Nick: The sheer variety of entertainment is outstanding. On Odyssey , I absolutely love the live music . There’s nothing quite like sitting at a bar with a beer (or cocktail , whichever you might fancy) and watching a great band in a place like Music Hall, where there’s a revolving setlist to dance to on a nightly basis.

The comedy shows are another favorite, thanks to the truly cutting-edge comedians who literally create new jokes on our stages all the time. And something else especially cool on  Odyssey  is a touring troupe and their show,  Tap Factory. It’s a set of very energetic and dynamic performances that features tappers and percussionists.

And, of course, there’s SeaPlex,  the largest indoor and outdoor activity space at sea. It has something for everyone, from bumper cars and roller skating to a new addition, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade.

Q: A unique signature venue on board is Two70. How does it up the ante with entertainment, and what sets it apart?

Nick: Two70 is an innovative venue with a complex format that involves robotics, live entertainment , physical scenery and blurring realities. It’s one of the most technically sophisticated theaters in the world, with all kinds of surprising elements.

For starters, traditionally, people get ready for a show backstage. However, the back of the stage is the ocean. So instead, everything comes into view on a series of lifts. Even the artists come in on these torpedo tubes.

Then the room’s windows. They transform into Vistarama, a seamless video projection system—and that’s an understatement. At 135 feet wide and 12K resolution, Vistarama completely transforms the space. And not to be missed, our famous Roboscreens—six, 100-inch screens connected to robot arms that create scenes as they twist and move in sync with the music.

royal caribbean president's cruise 2023 entertainment

Two70 is a singular venue with the ocean as a backdrop and next-level technology infused throughout the space.

Q: One singular experience at Two70 is Oceanides . Can you explain what that is and what audiences can expect from it?

Nick: Oceanides is a five-minute, mysterious fairytale about mermaids. It pays tribute to Japan’s female free divers, the Ama, in a way that is unique to Two70.

We built a tank that had the same dimensions as one of our Roboscreens and filled it with water. Then, one by one, performers (the “mermaids”) went into the tank and “danced” underwater while being turned and moved. We filmed that and added mesmerizing lighting and colors.

Now, when we press a button, those moves are recreated by the Roboscreens as they show these performers in action onscreen. It’s the most amazing illusion.

Q: What else can audiences see at Two70?

Nick: There’s a new show called The Book , and it is outstanding. It’s actually my favorite right now. It’s about a character who has one very special power—he can take individual chapters from any book he wants to create a completely new story.

He opens his new book onstage, and boom, you’re off on a crazy ride. You’ll watch six different vignettes that take you from the bottom of the ocean to the top of the mountains and beyond.

Q: There’s also a glamorous show at the Royal Theater. What is that about and who will it appeal to most?

Nick: Showgirl: Past. Present. Future. will appeal to anyone who comes to see it. This show is all about celebrating and recognizing these frequently unsung performers. You start back in time with the 19th-century cancan era, then move forward to ’50s-style Las Vegas, the Super Bowl Halftime Show and into the future.

And the lavish costumes are as fun as the performances. Think traditional feathers, sequins and tuxedos, and cool, futuristic metal components.

royal caribbean president's cruise 2023 entertainment

Kids and the young at heart will love scaling the rock wall as they take in ocean views from 40 feet above deck.

Q: What are the best experiences for kids and families on a ship like Odyssey ?

Nick: Our dedicated kids program, Adventure Ocean , has fantastic, interactive activities brought to life by our experienced staff. Kids can let their imaginations run the show and chart their own adventures. And teens have exclusive hangout areas too. They have everything from the latest music, games and movies to their own outdoor deck.

Then there’s our lineup of sports, from rock climbing to ice skating, to surfing on the FlowRider surf simulator and sky diving. Plus, there’s fun in the form of high-speed waterslides, aqua parks and the new Virtual Adventure Zone , the first fully immersive 4D VR experience at sea.

Q: What would the adults love the most?

Nick: On Quantum Class and Quantum Ultra Class ships , and in particular Odyssey , everything has got this hip vibe to it that will really appeal to adults. They can (and will) enjoy many of the thrilling experiences I already mentioned. Additionally, there are adventurous options like North Star, a glass observation capsule from where you can take in 360-degree views as far as the eye can see.

Of course, relaxing in the Vitality Spa or hanging poolside in loungers, shady casitas and hammocks while sipping on an island cocktail are always great options too.

royal caribbean president's cruise 2023 entertainment

The Royal Caribbean mobile app transforms the way travelers cruise and plan their days.

Q: Any insider tips on how to make the most of the entertainment lineup and the time you have on board?

Nick: Having the Royal Caribbean mobile app handy certainly helps because it puts the daily activities right in your pocket. You can easily plan out your days, and that’s always something I recommend our guests do in the morning. Whether you’re new to cruising or a veteran, there’s just so much cool stuff going on—you don’t want to miss a single thing.

I also have to mention our new matinee performances. You can watch some shows during the day to then have more flexibility at night to catch other productions, see our late-night comedians or watch your home team at Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade .

There’s plenty more where that came from. Discover more about Odyssey and its lineup of cruises here .

Exclusive-royal caribbean recruiting thousands to meet surging demand, sources say.

By Doyinsola Oladipo

NEW YORK (Reuters) -Cruise operator Royal Caribbean Group is in discussions with new and existing markets around the world to recruit thousands of workers to staff its ships and private destinations to keep up with record cruise demand.

The number of people taking cruises hit a record in 2023, and with the surge in demand and larger vessels, labor needs are growing. Tourism boards and port operators from around the world said Royal Caribbean is looking to hire worldwide and the company confirmed it will hire around 10,000 workers this year.

Royal Caribbean's sea-based workforce at the end of 2023 totaled about 88,700 employees, 6% lower than the year prior, according to the company's annual filing. The company's land-based workforce including private destinations consisted of approximately 9,500 full-time employees, up 17%.

Bookings hit a record in the first quarter, boosting quarterly revenue to $3.73 billion, up 29%, and the company's stock price doubled in the past year to hit a new record.

"The recruiting strategy follows the business strategy of moderate capacity growth," a spokesperson said. The company plans to hire more than 10,000 workers in 2024 as it brings on three new ships, they added.

Andrew Spencer, president of the Caribbean Maritime University in Jamaica, said Royal Caribbean and rival Carnival have asked the university to ramp up short-term skills and certifications courses to get more workers trained for a career at sea.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) in April was approached by Royal Caribbean in regards to recruitment and hiring, a request it hadn't received in the past, said Natasha Chalwell, BVI Port Authority marketing director.

Royal isn't only focused on the Caribbean. The company also approached The Gambia Tourism Board in April with an interest in hiring more workers, a spokesperson said. The cruise operator currently employs about 700 workers from the West African nation.

"This is something we have discussed and will follow up to see how best we can facilitate that (request)," the spokesperson said. The tourism board said it will try to provide up to 1,000 additional workers.

Netherlands territory St. Maarten is in the midst of discussions about recruitment with Royal after the parties held a recruitment drive last year to source 1,000 workers.

"It did not necessarily yield as many applicants that I think we all were expecting," said Alexander Gumbs, chief executive of Port St. Maarten Group, who said less than a third of that goal for 1,000 applied.

Tens of thousands of people need to be hired from the Caribbean and Latin America as new ships are deployed across the industry, according to the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association, a trade organization. Tourism boards and ports said one of the major challenges is educating potential candidates about a career at sea to meet industry labor demand.

A cruise ship passenger found a hidden camera that had filmed over 150 people changing or using the bathroom. A man was arrested after the FBI said video showed him setting it up.

  • A passenger on a Royal Caribbean cruise spotted a hidden camera in a public bathroom.
  • Another passenger who was seen in a video setting up the camera was arrested.
  • The FBI said the video showed adults and minors as young as 4 years old changing.

Insider Today

A man was arrested Wednesday after officials say he set up a hidden camera in a public cruise ship bathroom and recorded more than 150 people, including minors, before another passenger spotted it, court records showed.

The incident occurred on a seven-day Royal Caribbean cruise that set sail from Miami, Florida, on April 29, according to the criminal complaint compiled by an agent with the FBI. The Harmony of the Seas ship was set to stop in Saint Martin, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas.

About a day after departure, while the ship was in international waters, a hidden camera with WiFi capabilities was placed in a public bathroom on the ship's top deck, close to a surfing simulator and a bar, the complaint said. Photos included in the complaint showed the small black camera as well as where it was hidden, an open area above the inside of the bathroom door where part of the wall had been removed for repairs.

Related stories

The following day, May 1, a passenger spotted the camera, of which only the lens was showing, and notified the Royal Caribbean crew. Security personnel removed the camera and located a memory card, on which they found hours worth of footage that included more than 150 people using the bathroom. Some victims were changing and were naked on the recording. About 40 of them appeared to be minors, some as young as 4 or 5 years old, the complaint said.

But the video also showed the suspect setting up the camera and later adjusting its position so that it would focus on the toilet. Within hours security personnel on the ship interviewed passenger Jeremy Froias, who admitted to placing the camera, according to the complaint.

Froias was charged with video voyeurism, or recording an individual in a private area without their consent, and the attempted possession of child exploitation material. He was arrested Wednesday, according to court records. A lawyer for Froias did not immediately provide comment to Insider.

In a statement provided to Insider, a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean said: "We are aware of an incident that occurred on board Harmony of the Seas' April 29 cruise .  The matter   was immediately reported to local and federal law enforcement and the guest involved was removed from the ship by authorities for further investigation. As this is an active case, we are unable to share any more details at this time."

The FBI is seeking the public's help in identifying the victims.

"The FBI believes he primarily targeted cruise ship passengers between the timeframe of April 30 and May 1, 2023, who may have used the public bathroom on the aft of the Harmony's top deck between the 'Flow Rider' surfing simulator and a bar. Passengers using this bathroom may have been video recorded by Froias," an FBI notice said.

They encourage anyone who may have been a victim to fill out a form .

In 2018, a couple from Florida said they found a hidden camera pointing at the bed of their cabin on a Carnival cruise ship .

Royal Caribbean’s Newest Ship 'Utopia of the Seas' Begins 5-Day Sea Trials with Over 900 Experts on Board — See Photos!

The new cruiser will be available for short getaways starting in July

The Royal Caribbean’s latest ship is nearly ready for its debut!

In September 2023, the Utopia of the Seas hit the open ocean for the very first time. Now, starting May 7, the cruise ship is slated to undergo five days of sea trials ahead of its launch this summer.

During this testing period, the ship will cover over 1,000 miles before docking in France for its final phase of production at Saint-Nazaire’s Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard.

Over 900 experts are currently on board the Utopia , Royal Caribbean says.

Architects, engineers and more specialists are all working to ensure that every detail of the massive cruiser — from its engine to its navigation systems — will be ready to set sail from Port Canaveral in Orlando, Fla., on July 19.

Utopia will offer “more pools than the days to count, thrills like the longest dry slide at sea; and showstopping entertainment across air, ice, water and stage,” according to Royal Caribbean.

By the numbers, the ship boasts five pools, three waterslides and two casinos — plus, 21 places to dine and 23 places to drink.

Highlights of its dining options include the Pesky Parrott, a Caribbean-inspired bar, and Royal Railway, “a first-of-its-kind immersive train car dining experience,” per the company.

And, to work up an appetite, the cruiser features a “FlowRider surf simulator,” plus recreational classics, including from rock climbing and mini golf and to an indoor ice arena.

Notably, every Utopia cruise also stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay — Royal Caribbean’s award-winning private island in The Bahamas.

In addition to the ship’s myriad hangouts, guests aboard the new ship can enjoy Perfect Day, which opened in 2019, and its many amenities, from the “tallest waterslide in North America” to the “Caribbean’s largest wave pool.”

Plus, passengers over 18 can visit the island's recently opened Hideaway Beach, a brand-new “adults-only oasis” with a private beach and live music.
