Why you'll love the Highlands

scottish highland tours from glasgow

Lovely Landscapes

Some landscapes tell tales of terrible battles. Others feel like they’re home to giants and fairies. Whereas many are so stunning, you’re stopped in your tracks. From barren moors to dense forests, you don’t need to delve deep into the Highlands to find beauty.

Wonderful Wildlife

In the evening, you hear the owls cry. In the morning, you see silhouettes of stags in the forests. And by the sea, you can admire thrashing whales and dolphins. Scotland’s Highlands are abundant with wildlife; so it’s a good idea to bring wildlife books and binoculars on your tour.

Curious Castles

Mysteries lie within. Like a hidden passageway. A strange portrait looming above you in a dark hallway. A wall torn to shreds by violence and time. The castles of Scotland display their history proudly. They sigh over their own ruinous state, welcoming your admiration over all they’ve endured.

Heartfelt Hospitality

Quaint and snug cottages. Large and eerie castles. Cosy and traditional pubs. No matter where you go in the Highlands, you’re sure to receive a warm welcome. Highland hospitality is genuine and typically involves a hearty meal shared amongst new and old friends.

One of our most popular one day tours from Glasgow is our Highland tour to Loch Ness and Glencoe, taking in some of the most dramatic scenery of the Scottish Highlands. Our Loch Ness tour will visit Glencoe and offers options for a cruise across the loch.

From Glasgow our Loch Ness tour will travel north, before making a refreshment stop on the shores of Loch Lomond. Travelling the length of the loch, we climb up into the Highlands, over the unique, dramatic landscape of Rannoch Moor and the Black Mount to majestic Glencoe, one of Scotland's most haunting glens, site of 1692 massacre of the MacDonald clan.

Continuing via Loch Linnhe, our Loch Ness tour will stop in the Fort William area for lunch then continue into the natural beauty of the Great Glen as we pass beneath Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Travelling on, we will arrive in the pretty village of Fort Augustus where you have the chance to cruise Loch Ness or spend time at its shore.

At 24 miles long and 700 feet deep, Loch Ness is most famous for its sightings of the Loch Ness Monster, affectionately known as Nessie.

From Fort Augustus, our Loch Ness tour will start its return for home, crossing the Grampian Mountains and the woodland scenery of Perthshire, including the Forest of Atholl, with an evening refreshment stop at the Victorian resort town of Pitlochry, en route back to Glasgow where our Loch Ness tour ends.

Fun tour and great guide.

“Great tour, amazing scenery and our driver / guide David was fantastic - fiercely proud Glaswegian with an accent thick as the city itself. He had many stories on clan battles, played some great Scottish music, funny jokes, with tons of historical and modern insights into Scotland. Best guide ever! I do wish we could have met a Highland Cow which would a huge bonus.”

  • Chevron down What to Bring
  • No matter when you visit, the weather in Scotland can be “changeable”, to say the least. We suggest that you bring suitable clothing for all conditions, including a waterproof jacket (it has been known to rain in Scotland), sunglasses and plenty of layers.
  • Ensure you bring shoes suitable for short walks, on rough or uneven terrain.
  • Although most attractions & eating establishments we visit accept card payments, we would also recommend bringing cash with you.
  • Don’t forget a camera to snap the fantastic memories you’ll make on tour with us!
  • Please limit your luggage to 1 x small/medium piece per person (no more than 15kg), along with 1 x small handbag or daypack.

The trip was everything I hoped for and much more. Our driver/guide Jamie Stewart was excellent and went out of his way to make us feel welcome, informed and cared for We were fortunate to have great weather the entire 5 days. It allowed us to do everything on the itinerary and more. The scenery is beautiful. The history is fascinating and Jamie explained it all very clearly Our accommodations each night were also top notch I would do the trip again and highly recommend the experience

This was a wonderful tour. If you want to see the best highlights of Scotland in a limited time, do this tour. Very good value for money. We went to gorgeous places; you will have good memories to keep for many years. What a beautiful country! So full of history, culture, taste delights and amazing landscapes. Transport was good, we were a small group in a Mercedes Sprinter, comfortable and lots of space. Our driver Barry was one of the highlights of the tour! He took us to some wonderful off the beaten tourist track places on Skye and in the Highlands, listened to us and took special requests to stop at a few points of interest. Barry had the right balance of speaking as a guide at the right time and allowing periods of silence to enable everyone to absorb the atmospheric scenery. Good sense of Glaswegian humour! Some of the stories he told us were hilarious! Very entertaining, good mix of serious and funny tales. I would recommend this great tour to anyone interested in some of the best that Scotland has to offer.

We waited two years after our original booking to take this trip due to Covid restrictions. We originally chose this company because it was the only one that let children younger than 5 go on the tour. We stuck with them during a couple of Covid induced re-bookings and they were always easy to work with. The 5-Day Best of Scotland tour was outstanding. The guide, Rory, was friendly, funny, and accommodating. He had a wealth of knowledge about Scotland’s history and other stories. The accommodations booked by the company were centrally located and met our needs. Overall a great experience with this company and a fantastic tour. We would definitely use this company again.

Yes I agree with Dhmellor…the route via Bridge of Orchy and Rannoch Moor (flanked by mountains too) is much more scenic again than the Oban run(not that that isn’t good for scenery too.)

Although you didn’t say in your post, but are you dropping your Parents off at Glasgow Queen St Station first?

If so, then be very aware of the restrictions around the Station for Cars , there are Bus Gates/Lanes all around the Station and you will incur a £60 fine if you drop them off at the Station.
