How to Reach Tiger Kingdom, Phuket

Tiger Kingdom Phuket is located next to the Go-Kart track in Kathu, close to Patong Hill. This park is only 15 mins away from Patong Beach.

What to expect at Tiger Kingdom Phuket?

The Tiger Kingdom Phuket might not be to everyone’s taste and opinions. While it aims to educate and raise awareness about these magnificent creatures, concerns have been raised about the ethics of such interactions and the impact on tiger welfare. We went to see for ourselves if the animals were well treated. The place is surprisingly large, clean and very well organised and as soon as you enter, you’ll see the several options offered to the visitors.

There are five sizes of tigers at Tiger Kingdom Phuket, plus a couple of cheetahs: newborn, smallest, small, medium and big, and the price is according to popularity. The cute cubs and the massive adults are the most popular, but you can choose all combinations according to your budget, be aware that it doesn’t come cheap.

We went in and asked lots of questions. The animals are in excellent condition, nicely groomed with beautiful fur, no bad smell and the enclosures are kept spotless. Many of the tigers are lazing around, leading inevitably to the general statement ‘tigers are drugged’, which no one can prove nor demonstrate. The guide’s answer was they were not; this is the daytime behaviour of well-fed tigers born in captivity. He said we should return at 5 pm when tigers get hungry and see how restless they become. Tigers responded well to the attention given to them.

The guide gave us a lot of interesting information, so don’t hesitate to ask anything as they speak English. For your safety, there are rules to respect: wash your hands before walking in (tigers are cleaner than you are :D). Don’t bring your bag inside, as tigers love to play with the straps. Don’t use flash, don’t walk alone in the parks and don’t make a loud noise. Once we saw the size of the beasts, we certainly didn’t feel like doing anything that could upset them. The young tigers might be considered ‘small’, but just one of their paws is as big as your face!

We went around several rooms and gardens and took our photos, and whether we agree with the idea of tigers being kept in captivity, it is hard not to have a broad smile when holding a baby tiger or lying down next to a full-grown feline. So we did our inspection and were reassured that the animals were extremely well treated. Now it is entirely up to you to decide whether you want to see the tigers.

We visited the Tiger Kingdom in Phuket, Thailand. The place is smaller than we expected but there are lots of tigers in big cages. The tigers looked happy, clean and well fed. It's worth paying some extra money for taking pictures with the tigers or feed them otherwise you wouldn't be able to see much. It was a good experience overall.

You can take pictures with a tiger here. It seems that the price of a tiger that can be taken will change depending on the size. I wanted to take a picture with a baby tiger, but I couldn't take it because there was no baby tiger on that day. It was good to have a very good experience because it was not possible in Japan. The tiger was relaxing and cute.

At first, the supplier made a mistake and booked a two-person ticket. I lacked an order for only one person in the park, but I quickly solved the problem after calling the customer service. The tiger is very big. The weather is very good. The photo is very good.

It is really good to interact with tigers, but the park is too small, it is estimated that it can be finished in 2 minutes! The driver of the shuttle is very good.

It was really fun and exciting.

Very good experience, not cost-effective

If you are looking for a half-day excursion, and you find yourself in Phuket, take a trip to Tiger Kingdom.This attraction as first may look like you want to save all the tiger’s but wait their experienced staff and information board give a wealth of facts about the tiger’s living there and what happens when they get old. I won’t give all the information away but just know that all tiger’s are taken great care of and they sleep for 20 hours a day. 😊😊😊Go have a Terrific time 🐅🐅🐅.

Here people and tigers live peacefully together. The tigers are loved and cared for since the very birth and until the old age. Each tiger has a trainer who takes care of the animal and teaches and trains it. It is absolutely safe to be in one cage with the tiger in the presence of its trainer. You can walk into the cage, pet the tiger, hug it and take photos with the big cat. You will spend 10 minutes in each cage. The trainer will give some recommendations and explain how to behave near the tiger. He will stay in the cage with you and if necessary he will help to move the tiger and change its position for the photo.

If you are not brave enough to walk into the cage, you can be an observer. It is very comfortable to watch tigers from the restaurant. There is a view over the cages from the Tiger Zoo restaurant – you will see the tigers playing, resting and being fed.

Restrictions for children visiting certain cages

• Only children of 90 cm and taller are admitted to the cages with infant tigers. Children must be accompanied by parents
• Only children over 16 y.o. are admitted to the cages with teenage tigers
• Only children over 17 y.o. are admitted to the cages with young and adult tigers

The Tiger Kingdom charges different prices to enter the enclosure of different cats, ranging from leopards to different sized tigers. While these prices also include access to the rest of the park (not enclosures), it is not the other way around. Meaning, if you purchase a ticket to only enter the park, you will not have access to any of the enclosures.

They have a strict policy against feeding the animals in order to ensure proper nutrition for them. If you want to feed a tiger, it is best to check their website to see if there are any cubs at the Tiger Kingdom. Feeding the cubs is a highly demanded activity that is only available during certain months of the year.

The Phuket Tiger Kingdom regularly updates the prices of the activities they offer, without any prior notice. Thus, it is best to consult their website or your travel agent about the same.

About the tiger rescue centre at wfft.

It’s estimated that there are only around 150 tigers left in the wild in Thailand. This number is at constant risk from illegal poachers who sell tigers as exotic pets or to unethical zoos, or use their body parts for use in traditional Chinese medicine. As well as the threat to wild populations, hundreds of captive tigers across the country suffer horrendously in unnatural living conditions as part of the tourism industry, where these animals are often tormented and abused until they become obedient. 

That’s why we’ve opened the Tiger Rescue Centre at WFFT, where we can rescue and rehabilitate captive tigers, and offer a forever home to those who cannot safely be returned to the wild. As Asia’s biggest tiger sanctuary run by an NGO, the tigers can live freely in acres of near-natural habitat. The centre also helps our work to raise awareness of wildlife conservation and animal exploitation by educating tourists and local communities about the urgent issues facing tigers today and how we can help protect these animals for generations to come. 

We currently have more than 20 tigers at the centre. Some were saved from Phuket Zoo and the majority from a tiger farm as part of the biggest tiger rescue by an NGO in Thailand’s history. Many of the tigers in our care were kept in small concrete cages, for more than two decades. Furthermore, archive footage of Phuket Zoo shows the tigers pacing frantically in circles while kept on very short chains, so that tourists could pose with them for photos. When not being forced to interact with tourists, the tigers were held in barren concrete cages. 

Now after years of captivity, the rescued tigers have a chance to live a wonderful new life at WFFT. Sadly, they can never live in the wild. But the forested land around our tiger rescue centre gives our tigers the chance to live in near-natural surroundings, where they can run around, swim in the huge lake, and socialise with other tigers. It is likely that this is the first time that these tigers have ever felt grass beneath their paws.

Thailand is home to two subspecies of tiger, the Indochinese and the Malayan. Both species are critically endangered due to the combined threats of habitat loss, poaching, and the illegal wildlife trade. 

The country’s protected Western Forest Complex is home to the largest single population of Indochinese tigers, making it one of the last strongholds for this subspecies and an area of global conservation importance. 

Unethical Tiger ‘Attractions’ 

From the USA to China, tigers face exploitation around the world all for tourist’s entertainment.

Tigers used as photo props and for ‘performances’ are generally kept in small and unnatural concrete enclosures, where they are abused until they become obedient. These dangerous animals are often drugged to become more docile around tourists, and can suffer from painful health conditions as a result of being repeatedly inbred. 

What You Can Do To Help Tigers

The captive tiger industry is a big problem that we can all help solve by simply refusing to support unethical animal attractions which exhibit tigers as photo props or force them to perform.

If you want to see tigers, visit a national park where you can have the chance at seeing these amazing animals in the wild. Thailand itself is home to several beautiful national parks and protected wildlife sanctuaries where the country’s wild population of around 150 tigers roam free. 

You can also visit one of the few legitimate rescued tiger sanctuaries like WFFT, where tigers live freely and are not in contact with tourists.

Tiger Kingdom

We got to interact with a tiger 12-18 months old and the cost was around $40 per person. We were in the cage with the tiger 10 minutes or less. I think they say 10 minutes, but we wanted out of there. We each got to sit next to one of the tigers and take a photo. Then we got a group photo. And that was it. For an extra fee, you can have a professional photographer take photos of your experience. The fee is super cheap, like 500 baht.

Tiger Muay Thai strives to keep the Muay Thai training we offer 100% authentic. We respect Thai tradition and that reverence runs deeply throughout our classes and around our camp. You won’t find a watered down version of the “Art of Eight Limbs” here.

Our legendary Muay Thai classes are broken down into beginner , intermediate , advanced and professional invite-only ring and run simultaneously twice per day.

Expect sessions to go for approximately 2 hours and teach traditional and fundamental fighting techniques including kicking, knees, elbows, boxing (Thaiboxing) skills, the famed Muay Thai clinch, combinations, and of course, ring fitness and conditioning.

Each class has between 7-8 trainers supervising to ensure that every person gets individualized attention and learns proper technique.

We cover all ranges of MMA combat from BJJ, both in the Gi and Nogi, to wrestling and stand-up. The training program consists of two types of classes, the  Mixed Martial Arts  and the  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu , both run on a daily basis.

Our MMA classes are run by our new soon-to-be-announced head MMA coach and our co-head MMA coach  Joseph Henle .  Joseph is a professional MMA fighter as well as a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blackbelt under former world champion Fabio Leopoldo.

Joseph is also our head BJJ coach and is looking forward to diving into his new role as co-head and head coach at Tiger Muay Thai and wants to welcome anyone looking to become their best to join us on the mats!
