Trek-Segafredo reveals 2023 team kits

It's business in the front, party in the back this season..

With November in the rear view mirror, a new cycling season rapidly approaches and professional teams are putting together the final touches for a new campaign.

Often, that means a new look for the new season. Trek-Segafredo just shared its new kits for both its men’s and women’s WorldTour teams for 2023, and while not a complete departure from 2022, the kits are a nice refresh of a familiar theme.

Both squads are sticking with predominantly white on the torso, accented by a line of color across the chest that is red for the men and blue for the women although the women now have a darker shade of blue across the front.

This year, the team is also extending color to the sleeves, with the women getting a lighter blue similar to last year’s color on the sleeves.

But the biggest change is to the back of the jersey.

Both designs feature an eye-catching pattern across the back alternating between checkerboard and horizontal lines in black over a base of the kit’s dominant color, red or blue. The team should be easy to pick out in helicopter shots among the sea of similar jersey designs.

The bibs have been slightly changed, but don’t try to break down any fashion norms of the peloton. The band of color around the leg is now thinner, and the base color is a navy blue.

Santini is once again creating the kits. Fans looking to pick up one of their own will be able to starting December 5.

The Trek Segafredo 2023 kit is based on the 2022 kit but with some design additions. The men's team kit keeps the red while the women's kit remains blue. The jersey is white with a stripe across the chest where Trek is still rendered in white. The sleeves are red or blue. A design detail added to the rear of the jerseys is a repeating pattern of alternating lines and chquered pattern.

The bibshorts and bibtights are black with the bibshorts having a coloured stripe on the leg ends. The repeating pattern used on the back of the jersey is also used on the straps of the bibshorts and bibtights.

Markantes Rückenmuster : Das Trikot von Trek-Segafredo für 2023

Das Teamtrikot von Trek-Segafredo für die Saison 2023 ist keine Revolution, hat aber einige neue Details. Hergestellt wird das Rennrad-Outfit auch im kommenden Jahr von Santini.

Trek-Segafredo: Trikot mit farbigen Ärmeln

Auf der Vorderseite des Jerseys bleiben die US-Amerikaner dem diesjährigen Trikot treu, mit kleinen Ausnahmen. Das Männer-Outfit wird weiterhin von Weiß dominiert, unterbrochen von einem roten Streifen auf der Brust mit weißer Schrift. Die Sponsoren SRAM, Santini, Trek, Segafredo Zanetti und Bontrager schmücken auch weiterhin den Oberkörper von Bauke Mollema und seinen Mannschaftskameraden.

Neu sind die roten Ärmel, die 2022 noch weitestgehend weiß waren. Hier finden Segafredo und Reifenhersteller Pirelli Platz. Bei den Damen wird die Farbe auf der Brust etwas dunkler und die Ärmel in helles Blau getaucht.

Markantes Muster auf dem Rücken

Den größten Unterschied zum 2022er Trikot gibt es bei Herren und Damen auf dem Rücken. Ein Schachbrettmuster wechselt sich mit horizontalen Linien ab. Bei den Männertrikots ist der Untergrund rot, bei den Damen blau. Diese Trikots dürften für Zuschauer und Zuschauerinnen vor dem Fernsehgerät sehr leicht zu identifizieren sein ob ihres markanten Musters auf dem Rücken.

Die Hosen sind bei Herren und Damen weitestgehend gleich geblieben. Grundfarbe ist Marineblau, der Farbstreifen, der die Hosen abschließt, ist 2023 etwas dünner geworden.

Vor Trek-Segafredo hatte UAE Team Emirates als erste Top-Mannschaft sein Outfit für die kommende Saison vorgestellt . Die Mannen um Tadej Pogacar sind 2023 mit einem neuen Bekleidungsausstatter unterwegs. Zudem wurden auch bereits das Trikot von Groupama-FDJ und das Jersey von Bahrain-Victorious enthüllt.

The Trek-Segafredo men’s and women’s teams will be dividing the vast majority of their time between the Trek Madone SLR aero road bike and this lightweight Trek Émonda SLR in 2023. Let’s take a closer look at the Émonda…

The current Émonda has been around for over two years now – doesn’t time fly? – with Trek calling this incarnation its fastest-climbing bike ever.

The Émonda has always been the lightweight road bike in Trek’s range, but the US brand also focused on aerodynamics in the development of the latest model.

The designers say they spent most time working on the front end of the bike – the bar/stem, head tube and down tube – because that’s where you can make most aero gains, testing both with and without a water bottle in place.

Trek says that the flagship Émonda SLR platform is 60 seconds per hour faster than its predecessor on flat roads – in other words, on the older bike it would take you 61 minutes to ride as far as you could in 60 minutes on the newer one – and 18 seconds per hour faster on an 8% gradient (Trek’s notional rider upon which these figures are based is 70kg and puts out 350 watts for the hour). 

Trek says that the Émonda SLR isn’t as aerodynamically efficient as its Madone platform but that it's marginally ahead of the Domane endurance bike.

Using deep-section tubes adds weight over round tubes so the current Émonda SLR that Trek-Segafredo riders use is slightly heavier than the previous model, but the frame still comes in under 700g. The designers say that the slight weight penalty is still worth it for the net gain in speed in most circumstances thanks to improved aero efficiency.

In order to hit its weight, strength and stiffness targets for this bike, Trek says it had to use a new kind of carbon fibre within the layup – which it calls 800 Series OCLV carbon.

Trek isn’t keen on giving away too many secrets but says that from a fibre-type perspective, OCLV 800 is 30% stronger than the material it uses for its OCLV 700.

Trek-Segafredo riders use handlebars, stems, seat posts and saddles from Trek’s in-house Bontrager brand.

The bar and stem are separate units here and the hoses for the hydraulic disc brakes run externally before entering the frame at the top of the head tube.

There are no gear cables or wires to worry about because Trek-Segafredo riders use SRAM Red eTap AXS groupsets with wireless shifting. They also use Quarq SRAM Red AXS Power Meters.

Team riders can choose between 48/35, 50/37, 52/39 and 54/41-tooth chainsets and 10-28 or 10-33 12-speed cassettes.

The wheels are from Bontrager: RSL37, RSL51 or RSL62, depending on the terrain, conditions, and rider preference. The number in the name refers to the rim depth in millimetres. All of these wheels use DT Swiss 240s internals with Ratchet EXP 36-point engagement.

The wheels are fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tyres. The team uses tubeless, clinchers, and tubulars.

The team use Time XPro-10 pedals, Time being a brand that’s now owned by SRAM, and Wahoo Elemnt Bolt and Roam bike computers.

Interesting to see the pro team bikes are sans integrated bars. I know people who have started to get replacement bars from trek after the recall. I decided to keep mine instead of getting the temp replacement but to see the team with a different set up raises eyebrows.

It's possible that the reason is that many pros will use 150-170mm stems with narrow bars, it's not worth tooling up to manufacture the whole assembly for that size, which hardly anyone will buy, whereas it's possibly cheaper/easier to do smaller runs of longer stem & narrow bars separately.

The 2023 Tour of the Gila returns for a 36th year, taking place April 26-30 across the foothills of the Pinos Altos Mountains around Silver City, New Mexico. As one of only two UCI 2.2 road races in the US this year, the Tour of the Gila provides five days of racing for men and women and also offers categories for two or more days for amateurs.

The pro women will cover 396.6km over the five stages while the men will take on 510.2km, with both categories using the same route for stage 3’s uphill individual time trials.

The race kicks off on April 26 with the Mogollon Road Race, known for its steep finishing climb to the ghost town. The Stage 2 Inner Loop Road Road Race takes riders through the rugged terrain of the Gila National Forest, a 76.2-mile loop for men with 5,781 feet of climbing and a 74.1-mile loop with 5,854 feet of climbing for the women.

The third day offers the 16.15-mile time trials in the village of Tyrone, which uses an out-and-back course with 1,000 feet of climbing. Stage 4 is a criterium that takes place in the historic downtown of Silver City on a traditional four-corner course.

The fifth and final day of racing is the Gila Monster stage, which is often the deciding factor in the race. Similar to stage 2, the course does a reverse loop through the Gila National Forest and ends in Piños Altos with a narrow, seven-mile ascent. The men cover 100.6km with 9,131 feet of climbing, while the women cover 65.9 miles and 5,610 feet of climbing.

Tour of the Gila contenders - women

Like the vast, high desert terrain in New Mexico, the GC title is a wide open canvas for the women’s field this year. Absent are the two dominant riders from a year ago, Lauren De Crescenzo (Cinch Rise) and Krista Doebel-Hickok (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB), as their teams are racing elsewhere. It is a smaller field with 12 teams, but not small on the competitive level.

DNA Pro Cycling has a stacked roster of climbers, so look for two-time Colombian road champion Diana Peñuela in the overall, as she had a pair of fourth-place finishes on climbing stages in 2022. She will be supported by teammates who can also win stages such as Holly Breck , who won the sprint classification at Redlands, and Mexican time trial champion Anet Barrera, who won the best young rider classification last year.

Emily Ehrlich brings momentum for Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY24 as she captured the overall title at Redlands Bicycle Classic, along with a win in the individual time trial and a second place in the criterium. Her teammate Marlies Mejías won the opening circuit race and was second in the criterium in California, while Melisa Rollins and Laurel Quiñones were on the podium in the ITT with Ehrlich for a team sweep. It is a well-rounded squad for five days of racing.

Roxo Racing will debut Nadia Gontova at the New Mexico stage race, having signed the Canadian just days before. Gontova won the stage 2 Oak Glen climb at this year’s Redlands Bicycle Classic riding for Red Truck Racing. The team will be without Emily Marcolini, however, who won the Gila Monster stage last year for Team 3T Q+M, as she recovers from fractured ribs sustained in a crash on stage 1 at Redlands.

Marcela Prieto will lead Patobike for GC hopes, as she was second overall at Redlands. The Mexican rider scored four top 10s at Tour of the Gila last year. She will find support from Lorena Villamizar and Valeria Leon.

Amy D Foundation returns with Austin Killips, who was the bronze medalist at US cyclocross nationals last December. It is her first road race of the season, but she did finish third overall in the Tour of the Gila in 2022 so don't count her out.

Tour of the Gila contenders - men

The five days of UCI 2.2 racing in the foothills of the Pinos Altos Mountains in the desert southwest of New Mexico should be a playground for climbing by the Team Medellin-EPM in the men’s division. The Colombian team will see threats from other Continental programmes Project Echelon Racing and Toronto Hustle among the field of 19 teams.

Foremost is the one-two punch of former WorldTour rider Miguel Ángel López and climbing veteran Óscar Sevilla for Team Medellin-EPM. López is the reigning time trial champion of Colombia and last weekend won the silver medal at the ITT Pan-Am Championships. The versatile rider has 23 race days in his legs already, bringing to New Mexico a pair of stage race GC victories from the Vuelta a San Juan and Vuelta al Tolima, plus the mountain classification title from Vuelta Bantrab. Sevilla last raced at Gila in 2019 where he was second overall.

Project Echelon Racing won three stages last year and said that every stage is a target this time out. Tyler Stites finish 10th overall a year ago and returns as the team leader, coming with good form having won a second title at Redlands.

Toronto Hustle will be led by Matteo Dal-Cin , who rode in the leader’s jersey for two days and finished second overall last year. He was second in the Redlands time trial earlier in April.

The CS Velo squad returns but will be without GC winner Sean Gardner, who is still away from racing this spring to recover from a serious concussion suffered in February. They expect to bring riders contesting for stage victories, such as climber Drake Deuel, who had a pair of top 10s last year.

Also watch on the climbing stages for Torbjørn Røed (Above + Beyond Cancer Cycling), who took victory on the opening mountaintop finish of the Mogollon Road Race last year.

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.

Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.

One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.

There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.

In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.

There are sections for children who go in for hockey or figure skating. Citizens come here with their families to cheer for their favorite team or go ice skating.

Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the battle. To these heroesdedicated to the memorial complex with the inextinguishable Eternal Flame, opened in 1968

But the electricians took part in the war in Afghanistan and Chechnya. By decision of the city authorities, their memory is also immortalized in the memorial complex.

It has become a good tradition for newlyweds to lay flowers at this monument.

In 1999, a museum and exhibition complex was opened in the city, where, in addition to the exhibition hall, there are numerous circles for children, classes for young people, and a creative workshop. Various festivals, exhibitions, city holidays and other events are held within the walls and on the territory of the complex, which attract many spectators.

Listing the sights of Elektrostal, it is impossible not to mention the temples. There are several of them in the city: the church of St. John of Kronstadt, St. Andrew's Church, the hospital church of St. Panteleimon. Another new church is being built. In appearance, the temples look ancient, monumental, in the Novgorod style. But they were all built at the end of the 20th century.

Let there be no ancient artifacts among the sights of Elektrostal. But on the other hand, all of them are connected with the history of the city, with everyday work and military exploits of ordinary residents.
