Iron Maiden announce their return to Australia in 2024
- X (formerly Twitter)
Iron Maiden , perhaps the most legendary of all legendary metal bands, will bring their The Future Past tour to Australia in September 2024.
They will play five mammoth arena shows around the country in September, their first dates on our shores since the epic The Book of Souls tour back in 2016.
It comes after the band's scheduled 2020 tour was cancelled for reasons you don't need us to explain.
There is no band who leans into the over-the-top wildness of heavy metal lore quite like Iron Maiden.
Their records and their live shows are unashamedly huge in every sense of the word, as the iconic British band provide a dazzling feast for the eyes and the ears.
This is rock'n'roll at its most overblown and theatrical, and it's absolutely glorious.
Beyond the pomp is one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Iron Maiden's helped draw the blueprint for modern heavy metal, as they took the classic metal of the 70s and charged it up with the more extreme energy of punk and the technical nous of prog.
You could say a million things about Iron Maiden, but it's not until you experience the band in full flight that you'll ever truly understand what they're all about.
Joining Maiden at all dates will be longstanding metalcore icons Killswitch Engage .
You can catch Iron Maiden playing the following shows. Tickets are on sale from 11am Tuesday 24 October.
Sunday 1 September – RAC Arena, Perth
Wednesday 4 September – Adelaide Entertainment Centre
Friday 6 September – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
Saturday 7 September – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
Tuesday 10 September – Brisbane Entertainment Centre
Thursday 12 September – Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney

Iron Maiden has built one of the most reputable legacies of modern music. There is no doubting that. From such a legendary band, the fans can only expect the best. Iron Maiden Announces First 2023 ‘The Future Past’ Tour Dates
Iron Maiden has announced the first dates of the Future Past Tour for 2023.
Beginning in June, the band will perform a series of concerts in Europe and the U.K., including a hometown gig in London on July 7. You can see a complete list of tour dates below.
Iron Maiden will play selections from their newest album, 2021's Senjutsu , during the shows but have also stated that there will be a "focus" on their 1986 album, Somewhere in Time , "plus other classic cuts." Up until now, Iron Maiden had been opening their Legacy of the Beast Tour concerts with the first three songs from Senjutsu , but they've decided to change things for this next trek.
"As it doesn't make a lot of sense to repeat this for a Senjutsu album tour, we thought about other options and we've decided to revisit Somewhere in Time as that tour didn't feature in the various retrospective history tours we've played over the years," bassist Steve Harris said in a statement.
"They were based on our '80s concert videos and sadly we did not film that tour. We have had lots of requests from fans over the years for many tracks on it so we are now going to play them, plus of course a few others we know you will like! It will also be particularly satisfying to finally get to play some of the more epic tracks on Senjutsu , it's been a long wait!"
"This combination of the two albums we feel is very exciting," the band's manager, Rod Smallwood, added. "We know fans want to hear those epic cuts on Senjutsu for the first time live, and we think that by combining it with an iconic album like Somewhere in Time it will make for another really special tour for fans old and new!" Tickets for the tour will go on sale on Oct. 13, with a fan club presale available beforehand.
Further European dates, as well as other tour details, will be announced at a later time.

Lasers, Pyro, and Robots: Iron Maiden’s Aussie Live Show is Going to be Epic
This article is sponsored by Twenty3 Group.
Metalheads rejoice — Iron Maiden have finally announced their Australian return for September 2024, with plans to bring their ‘Future Past’ tour to arenas around the country.
The tour marks the legendary band’s first slew of shows Down Under since 2016’s ‘Book Of Souls’ run, as COVID interrupted their plans to tour Australia in 2020. To get punters warmed up, they’ll be bringing metalcore icons Killswitch Engage along for the ride, too.
The tour celebrates the band’s samurai-inspired 17th album Senjutsu and 1986’s Somewhere In Time , as well as a slew of other hits and rarities from the band’s 40-year-long discography.
The band have garnered a reputation for crafting one of the most epic live shows in the world over their career — an Iron Maiden show isn’t simply a ‘plug in and play’ affair; there are lights, lasers, robots, theatrics and of course, a setlist that spans decades of metal greatness.
If this video from the band’s first night of tour in Slovenia is anything to go by, fans are surely in for a treat .
So, what can you actually expect from an Iron Maiden live show if you’ve never been to one before?
Our Good Mate, Eddie
‘Eddie’ has served as Iron Maiden’s mascot since 1980, when he appeared as a shadow-faced figure on the ‘Running Free’ single artwork. Since then, he’s been a fixture in both the band’s visual and live shows.
According to Kerrang , this tour features two robotic Eddies — a “Big Scary Bastard Samurai” Eddie and a “Gunslinging Cyborg” Eddie, who both ‘duel’ with guitarist Janick Gers (as per Maiden show tradition).
Lasers For Days
Bruce Dickinson is a man of many talents. He’s one of the best vocalists in metal, a pilot and now, he’s a certified laser gun operator.
During the ‘duel’ portion of the show, the mechanised assassin from the cover of ‘Somewhere In Time’ takes aim at Dickinson as they compete in an actual laser gun battle. Huge.
Pyro. Lots Of It
It wouldn’t be an arena metal show without pyro — so it wouldn’t be an Iron Maiden show without an absolute smattering of it. Maiden save up all their firepower for their epic encore and let the intense pyro rip during ‘Hell On Earth’.
On top of all this, the band rip through a slew of their biggest hits, like ‘The Trooper’, ‘Wasted Years’ and ‘Fear Of The Dark’, and rarities like ‘Alexander The Great’. It’s wild to think they’d have any energy left to actually play music after all the theatrics, but the metal lords continue to defy logic.

We know from the reaction of our fans at Power Trip and the shows we played in Canada recently that they really enjoyed hearing new songs from both Senjutsu and Somewhere In Time, and we’ve really enjoyed playing them! The energy has been incredible and we can’t wait to continue bringing this amazing and innovative show to fans around the world next year.”
THE FUTURE PAST TOUR , which includes songs from both IRON MAIDEN’s most recent studio album Senjutsu as well as 1986’s seminal album Somewhere In Time , alongside other fan favorites, played to over 750,000 fans at more than 30 sold-out shows across Europe in the summer of 2023. The band also performed in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver alongside their highly praised appearance at California’s Power Trip Festival this October which had Consequence stating “…Iron Maiden set the bar high at Power Trip” and The Desert Sun saying “Iron Maiden didn’t disappoint and delivered a hard-hitting performance to open the festival on a high note.” Featuring one of the most spectacular stage productions of the band’s career, it has received rave reviews in every city and country that IRON MAIDEN visited.

"America, we will see you very soon": Mongolian folk metal sensations The Hu to support Iron Maiden on expanded North American Future Past Tour
Iron Maiden's Future Past World Tour gets bigger with the addition of a new date and support from viral Mongolian metallers The Hu
Bruce Dickinson might be busy with his solo work right now, but the Iron Maiden machine is firing back into gear for 2024.
The band have just announced an additional date for their upcoming North American leg of the The Future Past World Tour at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on October 9.
Maiden also confirmed this was the final North American show to be added to this tour, set to begin in San Diego on October 4 and run until November 17, when it will wrap up San Antonio, Texas.
As well as the new date, Iron Maiden also announced that Mongolian folk metal sensations The Hu will be supporting them for all dates in North America.
Speaking about being invited on the tour, throat singer and Morin Khuur player Enkush said, “Iron Maiden are the masters of rock music and one of our biggest inspirations."
"The way that they create and perform their music is majestic. I still remember the first time I heard their ‘ Trooper ’ song and felt the deep energy behind each word. Something about their rhythm hits so close to home. We can’t wait to be on a tour with them for the first time. America, we will see you very soon and be prepared for the mind-blowing shows we will bring to you!”
The Future Past World Tour began in Slovenia in May 2023 . Celebrating songs from both the band's latest album, Senjutsu and 1986's Somewhere In Time, as well as lesser played classics, the first run of dates ended at California's Power Trip festival in October that same year. The band are set to resume touring on September 1 in Perth, Australia, touring the country with metalcore legends Killswitch Engage.

Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson says rate of venues closing in UK is “absolutely shocking”
“The state of small venues in Britain is absolutely shocking. Once venues go, they’re seldom replaced"
Iron Maiden ‘s Bruce Dickinson has opened up about the rate at which venues in the UK are closing, sharing its “absolutely shocking”.

In a new interview with the Daily Express , the frontman discussed the disappearance of the many small venues including the ones in which he got his start in the 1970s with his first band Samson.
“The state of small venues in Britain is absolutely shocking. Once venues go, they’re seldom replaced. When I started, shows were super-cheap. Then, bands would earn their money from their records’ royalties,” Dickinson shared.
He continued: “They don’t now and live music is the essence of everyone’s existence. We’ve got to the stage where it costs £100 to see even a low-level show.”
The singer also opened up about the closing of various pubs throughout Britain especially since the band have their own brand of beer named Trooper which features the band’s demonic mascot Eddie, as its logo. According to the Daily Express, over 35 million pints of the beer have been poured since it’s launch in 2013.
“Pubs are being closed down in a way that’s ignorant,” Dickinson said. “Pubs are either being closed altogether or are being ripped out so that they become a drinking factory, instead of anywhere with a sense of community. They become soulless, so that there’s no love or character there any more.”

Earlier this year, a report was published showing the “disaster” that struck the UK’s grassroots music venues in 2023 , with calls increasing for a ticket levy on larger arenas and investment from the wider industry.
The Music Venue Trust shared their full report into the state of the sector for 2023. Among the key findings into their “most challenging year”, it was reported that last year saw 125 UK venues abandon live music and that over half of them had shut entirely – including the legendary Moles in Bath . Some of the more pressing constraints were reported as soaring energy prices, landlords increasing rate amounts, supply costs, business rates, licensing issues, noise complaints and the continuing shockwaves of COVID-19 .
Overall, it was found that venues’ rent had increased by 37.5 per cent, with them operating at an average profit margin of just 0.5 per cent.
Earlier this month, artists and figures from the live music industry headed to Parliament to make the case to the UK government that there should be a mandatory £1 ticket levy on all gigs arena-sized and above , in order to secure the future of grassroots venues and artists.

Steve Harris says, “Following the release of our latest album, Senjutsu, we updated the current Legacy of the Beast Tour a little by opening the show with the first 3 songs from it, with the Japanese Palace stage set. As it doesn’t make a lot of sense to repeat this for a Senjutsu album tour, we thought about other options and we’ve decided to revisit Somewhere In Time as that tour didn’t feature in the various retrospective history tours we’ve played over the years. They were based on our 80’s concert videos and sadly we did not film that tour (blame the manager!!). We have had lots of requests from fans over the years for many tracks on it so we are now going to play them, plus of course a few others we know you will like! It will also be particularly satisfying to finally get to play some of the more epic tracks on Senjutsu, it's been a long wait! 2023 is going to be an exciting time and we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone again in the UK, Ireland and around Europe”. Manager, Rod Smallwood adds, “This combination of the two albums we feel is very exciting. We know fans want to hear those epic cuts on Senjutsu for the first time live and we think that by combining it with an iconic album like Somewhere In Time it will make for another really special tour for fans old and new! Of course, for a new album tour in Europe and the UK we will go back largely to the relative intimacy of arenas and we know fans will be very happy about that too!”
