Halloween on the High Seas Disney Cruise Guide

Halloween on the High Seas Disney Cruise Guide

Ready to set sail on the high seas during the spookiest time of the year? We love Halloween. And cruising during a Halloween on the High Seas cruise has been one of our all-time favorite vacations to date.  So we’ve compiled a guide perfect for helping you plan and knowing what to expect during a Halloween on the High Seas Cruise with the Disney Cruise Line.

Disney Halloween Cruise Planning

Planning a Halloween on the High Seas Cruise is really no different than planning most other Disney Cruises.  With a few magical extras, the Disney cruise ships are transformed into a Halloween wonderland. We’ll go into all the spooky details in this post!

Disney’s Halloween on the High Seas Cruise

Halloween on the High Seas is a special event cruise complete with decorations, festive foods, parties, and more. Each ship and itinerary may feature its own kind of fun, but the basics of this special cruise remain the same no matter where you are sailing!

Which Disney Cruise Ships have Halloween on the High Seas Cruise?

Every Disney Cruise ship has the ability to offer Halloween on the High Seas, including Disney Cruise Line’s New Disney Wish Cruise Ship ! Previously, we had sailed on the Disney Magic for Halloween on the High Seas and most recently the Disney Wish.

Disney Cruise Line Excursions

What Ports Do You Visit on a Halloween on the High Seas Cruise?

Halloween on the High Seas cruises are not tied to specific ports but rather offered in the fall months. So ports and Itineraries will change from year to year, and your best bet is to check Disney Cruise Line’s Official site for dates and ports of call offered for Halloween on the High Seas cruises .  Due to the time of year, many itineraries are available so you can sail to places like Jamaica, The Bahamas, Eastern Caribbean or enjoy a cold-weather cruise like New England and Canada .  Once in a while you can even find a Panama Canal sailing during Halloween on the High Seas!

Is Halloween on the High Seas Cruises more expensive?

It really depends! Although generally specialty cruises can be a little more expensive, Halloween on the High Seas Cruises are often during hurricane season and that can help you snag a great deal.  Also, some of the itineraries and ships that tend to be a little less popular are less expensive. When we cruised from New York City to Maine and Canada, our 5-night cruise was actually about the same price as our 3 night Very Merrytime in the Caribbean .

There are a lot of things that can affect the pricing of specific cruises. So don’t let the idea of it potentially being more expensive keep you from dreaming of a Halloween-themed cruise. Because that is not always the case!

What Should You Pack for a Halloween Cruise?

We love a theme! So we say, pack all the Halloween things you can! Ok just kidding. But seriously, there are a few things you might want to pack for a Halloween on the High Seas Cruise. If you want to dress up for the festivities, don’t forget a costume. And be sure to review the rules for costumes onboard. Truthfully, there are not a lot of extra things that need to be packed for a Halloween cruise. But, if you want a good list, check out our What to Pack for a Disney Halloween Cruise post.

What Halloween Extras Can You Get to Make the Experience Special?

There are always extras available to add a bit of festivity to your stateroom! I surprised my daughter with an onboard gift specific to the season, which costs extra and comes fully assembled in your room upon arrival. Ours included a fleece blanket, pillow, trick or treat bag, and glow-in-the-dark ghosts hanging from our ceiling. During our sailing, the cost of this onboard gift was $75, but the prices do vary from year to year. That is a little bit high, but since we don’t tend to go crazy with souvenir spending, I just factored into the cost of goodies we may have wanted to splurge onboard.

If you want to see what’s available for your cruise, just link your Disney Cruise Reservation , and you’ll be able to see what is available for your sailing.

What are the Halloween decorations like on a Halloween on the High Seas Cruise?

One of the most noticeable and constant- reminders that you are on a Halloween on the High Seas cruise is the decorations! Onboard you will find Disney-themed carved pumpkins, fall foliage garland, and the pumpkin tree! You will also see lots of Halloween magic sprinkled throughout like window clings, fall ribbon, and pumpkin decor. Check out what the Disney Magic Cruise Ship Halloween Decorations looked like in our photo tour.

Disney Cruise Halloween on the High Seas

Halloween on the High Seas Activities

There are many Halloween activities onboard a Disney Cruise at Halloweentime! Here’s a recap of everything we’ve experienced on our Halloween on the High Seas sailings!

Mickey’s Mouse-querade

Mickey’s Mouse-querade was probably our favorite event of the entire Halloween on the High Seas cruise.  A dance party with all of our favorite characters dressed in full Halloween attire, trick or treating, festive character meet and greets, and games, this party is fun for all ages.  Trick or Treat bags are left in guests staterooms the day of the party so no need to worry about bringing your own.

You don’t have to dress up for this one, but it’s a lot more fun if you do! We ended up being so busy before our cruise that Halloween costumes kind of slipped my mind. So my daughter and I both just decked ourselves out in Halloween attire that we had accumulated from Walt Disney World over the years and it worked out just fine. If you’re looking to save room in your luggage but still want to dress up, you can always double up your Pirate Night costume as a Halloween costume as well! This party can get pretty crowded; but if you want to be where all the action is, head to the atrium. Or head to decks 4 and 5 for a great view with fewer crowds.

Edited for 2022: Mickey’s Mousequerade has been seen to be held in both the atrium on the smaller ships, and on deck 11 on the larger ships. On our recent Disney Wish sailing, this event was held on deck 11 and we had a great view from deck 13! Trick or treating was also not involved in this party. Rather, it was held in Hero Zone at certain times noted in the app. We recommend arriving early for the best experience!

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing and Scream

The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing and Scream is an interactive movie experience. With 3D animation and 4D effects, this is a fun show for any Nightmare Before Christmas fan. Unfortunately for us, there was some sort of issue with the effects and well, it wasn’t really a whole lot different than just watching Nightmare Before Christmas on the big screen.  And during our Halloween on the High Seas cruise, this was actually during Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party and we left halfway through because we knew we’d rather be at the party.  As much as we love Nightmare Before Christmas, we preferred to be where the action is.

This is, however, your opportunity to meet Jack and Sally, which I know for many people is a big deal. So if you’re excited about that, the meet and greet with Jack and Sally is directly after the Sing and Scream. And with that being said, if it wasn’t held during the same time as the party, and had all of the original effects we had planned to see, we likely would have stayed all the way to the end.

Edited for 2022 : On our most recent Disney Cruise on the Disney Wish, Hocus Pocus was played instead of the sing along. We haven’t heard yet if this is a permanent change or just one made for the Wish. But wanted to note it!

Character Meet and Greets

Character Meet and Greets happen all throughout your sailing and outfits may change each time. Not all meet and greets during a Halloween on the High Seas cruise will be Halloween-themed, but all of the ones during Mickey’s Mousequerade will be! There are other opportunities other than Party night to find your favorite characters in costume. When you get the Navigator each day, or when you check the app for your daily activities, you can see who will be available for a meeting that day! It will give you the location and time so you can plan accordingly. *NEW* Minnie, Daisy and Clarabell don the iconic Hocus Pocus Sanderson costumes, for their spookiest Halloween meet and greet yet!

The lines for characters are usually not terribly long, but we recommend getting there close to the start time as Cast Members will “close” the line when the character’s time slot is almost over.  The Sanderson Sisters line gets very long, so we recommend arriving early. They will close this line once it appears to be at the 40-50 minute mark. So plan ahead if you want to see them! We arrived 20 mins early and ended up waiting a total of about 35 mins.

Halloween on the High Seas. Disney cruise halloween, halloween cruise, disney halloween, disney halloween on the high seas, disney cruise line, disney family

The Pumpkin Tree

The Pumpkin Tree may seem like just a decoration but it’s far more than that! On the first night of our cruise, we got to meet the Caretaker, who told the tree’s story. Since we were on the Disney Magic, our tree was named Reap. The caretaker then lights the tree for the remainder of the cruise. This is the only time you can see the lighting of the pumpkin tree, so we don’t recommend you miss it! The pumpkin tree serves as a backdrop for many of the photo ops during the cruise. And he even plays a fun part during the Mouse-querade Party!

The Disney Wish welcomes a new Halloween Tree this year. Known as Boo, she represents the story of Cinderella. If you’re sailing on the Disney Wish, they also light up the wishing star to match the Halloween vibe.

Haunted Stories By The Sea

On select nights, you can cozy up on the main pool deck and watch this spooky feature on the jumbo screen.  A mysterious sailor tells ghost stories and occasionally the cast members join in on the fun. This was probably one of the lowest crowd events in terms of entertainment, but that could also be because nights were really cold and most people had retired to their rooms at that point.

Edited for 2022: This was not present on our cruise,

What other Halloween activities are there?

Aside from all of the events and entertainment, there are also lots of Halloween activities available onboard! Halloween crafts, Halloween-themed “Anyone Can Cook” demos and Halloween-themed trivia are just a few of the festive activities you can find on a Halloween on the High Seas cruise.  In addition to regular Halloween fun available to everyone, the kid’s clubs also have fun Halloween activities for little ones. Pumpkin carving, crafts, face painting, and more are just a few things your kids can enjoy.

Halloween on the High Seas

Halloween on the High Seas Spooky Treats

If there was one thing I would have loved more of onboard the Disney Magic for Halloween on the High Seas, it would be the spooky treats! The treats aren’t really announced or published anywhere; but you can find them at places like Cove Cafe, Cabanas during lunch, and even the occasional seasonal treat during your regular meal.  In addition to all of the spooky treats, you can find pumpkin-spiced everything onboard as well!

disney cruise pirate night

Is there Pirate Night during Halloween on the High Seas?

Pirate Night is a fan favorite and for good reason! Not all cruises have Pirate Night; but all of the ones we’ve been on have, even cruises that are not in the Caribbean. We sailed in the North Atlantic for our Halloween on the High Seas cruise and we still had a Pirates Night. Truthfully I was surprised by this since the event is literally called Pirates in the Caribbean, but I can’t complain because we love Pirate Night! You’ll be able to tell if your cruise includes Pirate Night when you receive your itinerary so that you can plan accordingly.

With a special meal, fun entertainment, and appearances from all of your favorite characters dressed in pirate gear, Pirate Night is not to be missed! Many families dress up with the theme, and while it’s not mandatory, it’s definitely fun. One thing that makes Pirate Night extra special on a Halloween on the High Seas cruise is that it gives cruisers the opportunity to dress up twice!

Is there an Adult only Halloween Party onboard Halloween on the High Seas?

Halloween isn’t just for kids! Adult-only Halloween fun can be had on a Halloween on the High Seas Cruise. So whether you’re a solo cruiser, a childless cruiser, or a parent needing a break, this is for you! There’s a costume contest, music, and dancing. And creepy cocktails of course! So get ready for this Villainous takeover and dance the night away! The location for this event will vary by ship, but you can find all the info in the navigator.

Edited for 2022: The Halloween Party for adults seems to be put on pause for this year. However, you can still find spooky fun for adults all over the ship. Halloween themed cocktails and Halloween activities for adults only are still available for

Is there Trick or Treating on a Disney Halloween Cruise?

Yes there is! There does seem to be some confusion about it though, since it has changed. If you’re sailing on the Disney Wish, it is held in the Hero Zone on deck 12. It’s only held at specific times, so you’ll have to check the navigator app to find out when it is. Other cruisers from other ships have reported that it has been held in both the atrium and on the upper deck of the ship, so just be sure to check your Disney Cruise app for details. And if you can’t find the info there, just ask someone! The cast and crew on Disney Cruise Line are so helpful and will be able to direct you to the right place.

Is there a character breakfast during Halloween on the High Seas?

Character breakfasts are only available on 7 night or longer cruises and reservations must be made in advance. You can book the character breakfast when your excursion booking date opens.

Edited for 2022: Since the reopening of Disney Cruise Line in 2021, character breakfasts have not returned. This may change in the future though!

Are tickets required for Halloween events?

As of the time of writing this post, no they are not! However, with the future of cruising a little uncertain, it’s possible that once cruising begins again, tickets may be required for certain events. We will keep this section updated to reflect current policies.

Disney Cruise Halloween on the High Seas

Is there Special Halloween on the High Seas merch?

Yes, there is! And it is cute! Gift shops are only open on board when the ship is at sea, so I highly recommend purchasing any special merch you want at the earliest possible time. Remember, you’re on a boat. They won’t be receiving a new shipment of merchandise during your cruise, so if something sells out while you’re on board, you likely won’t be able to get it at a later time.  The moral of the story is if you want that special Halloween mug, just buy it. Waiting will only end in heartbreak.

Disney Cruise Halloween on the High Seas Tips

Ready to book a Halloween on the High Seas cruise? Here’s a few tips!

This is always a top tip when it comes to cruising with Disney Cruise Line. Booking early can be tough sometimes, but it’s usually when you’ll see some of the lower prices available. Sometimes, the opposite of that is true, and we talk a little about this in our post about cruising on a budget .

Seasonal sailings generally tend to sell out a little quicker as well, so booking early will help you secure your choice of the stateroom onboard.

Disney Cruise Halloween Door Decorations

We always recommend that you decorate your door when you cruise . Not only does it add a little extra magic to an otherwise boring stateroom door, but it will also help you find your door in the long corridors of the cruise ship. You can make this as simple or detailed as you like. The doors are metal, so magnets are your best bet. We have a Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Magnet we like to add to the decor with our family name and destination.

When we’ve also made our own in the past, we just grab a pack of magnets from Amazon , design something on the Cricut , and voila! Pumpkins, bats, witch hats, and Mickey heads are all easy shapes anyone can master. And will add a bit of spooky spirit to your door with little effort.  And if you show up unprepared, never fear. Because the gift shops onboard usually have a few options to choose from as well!

Dress Up for your Halloween on The High Seas Cruise

Even if dressing up for Halloween isn’t your thing, something simple will do.  Most families and even adults traveling without children will be dressed up.  If costumes aren’t your thing, Halloween shirts , hats, or something as simple as light-up necklaces will work! I feel like every Halloween event I’ve ever been to either on land or at sea, I always hear people say they wish they would have dressed up. So just do it!

Check your Cruise Navigator daily for Halloween happenings

It’s great to be able to read a blog post like this and get all the ideas for what you want to do. But there is nothing that will be more accurate than your Daily Navigator or the app once you’re onboard. The truth is, no matter how many trips we take or how much research we do, things can change quickly and even from sailing to sailing. So be flexible and check daily to see what’s offered.

Disney Outfit Halloween on the High Seas

Disney Halloween Cruise Shirts

And of course, no Disney Cruise is complete with a souvenir shirt to remember the occasion. While we have loads of Disney Cruise Shirts in the shop if you’re traveling for the spooky season, then why not grab our Halloween on the High Seas Shirt to ear on board and get into the mood? These are soft jersey, unisex shirts. And we always recommend sizing up if you’re unsure, for a more relaxed look. You can also grab a Halloween on the High Seas Stateroom Door Magnet in this collection to match. Check out the links for all our shop collections.

All About Halloween On The High Seas – Disney Cruise Line

A Disney cruise is amazing any time of year, but especially during spooky season. In September and October, guests can set sail for Halloween at the High Seas, a special themed cruise featuring everything from Disney characters in costume and trick-or-treating to autumn-inspired arts & crafts and an adults-only party guest-starring the Disney Villains.

But what else does this frightfully fun cruise have in store, and is it worth it for your next family vacation? We booked a stateroom on the Disney Dream to find out. Put on your bewitching best and read on as we dig into all the treats a Disney Halloween cruise has to offer, as well as a few tricks to help you make the most of it.

Celebrating Halloween on the High Seas

So, which Disney cruise ship has Halloween on the High Seas? Where does a Halloween Disney cruise go? When do Disney Cruise Line Halloween festivities begin? Here are all the devilish details.

Disney Cruise Ships With Halloween on the High Seas

While we got into the spooky spirit on the Disney Dream, every Disney cruise ship takes part in Halloween on the High Seas, even the all-new Disney Wish. Each ship has its own scream-worthy setting especially for the season, including a unique Pumpkin Tree that serves as the centerpiece of the festivities.

Departure Ports & Destinations Visited on a Halloween on the High Seas Cruise

Think of Halloween on the High Seas more like a costume for your Disney cruise ship than a completely themed cruise. In other words, don’t expect a stop in Salem, Massachusetts, port adventures like ghost tours or a pop-up haunted house on Castaway Cay.

Rather, Disney Halloween cruises depart from several of the same ports as regular Disney Cruise Line sailings, including Port Canaveral and Miami in Florida, San Diego in California, and New York City. Halloween on the High Seas cruises also visit many of Disney Cruise Line’s most popular destinations, from fair-weathered voyages to Bermuda, the Bahamas, Mexico, and the Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean or through the Panama Canal to cold-weather cruises to Canada.

Cost of Halloween at the High Seas vs. a Typical Disney Cruise

You might be wondering if Halloween on the High Seas is more expensive than a typical Disney cruise. That depends on a few factors. While many themed Disney cruises can cost a little more than normal, factors like where you are sailing or which ship you are on can actually earn you a deal.

With sailings departing in September and October, many of Disney’s Halloween on the High Seas cruises go to the Caribbean, where spooky season sadly coincides with hurricane season, in search of warmer weather. Fortunately, as long as you can get past the overall uncertainty that comes with cruising during this occasionally treacherous time, you can sail away with quite a savings .

You may also notice that certain Disney cruise ships or ports are more in demand than others. As a result, Disney Cruise Line may drop the price for less popular departures, including Halloween on the High Seas sailings. So, you could save a buck or two if you are more flexible on the itinerary.

Halloween on the High Seas Sail Dates

Disney Cruise Line Halloween sailings start in mid-September and continue through the end of October, with the last cruises departing on October 31. Itineraries are offered from several different departure ports to a variety of popular destinations, from short 3-night jaunts to longer 5-night tours.

Why Do a Disney Cruise, Halloween Style

A Disney Halloween on the High Seas cruise is as jam-packed with fun as a trick-or-treat bag bursting with candy. Once onboard, you’ll find enough autumn-inspired activities and enchanting events to keep you up long into the night – both from the Halloween candy sugar rush you’re sure to get and the sheer number of things that is available to do.

Fang-tastic Halloween Decorations

One of the most charming parts about Halloween on the High Seas is the magical décor. From fiery garlands of autumn leaves to character-inspired pumpkins to adorable jack-o-lantern stickers on the ship’s massive portholes, each ship gets decked out with tons of boo-tiful touches that are sure to put you in the Halloween spirit.

The highlight of these All Hallows’ Eve decorations, however, is each ship’s signature Pumpkin Tree. Designed to have its own unique face, personality and even name (the one on the Disney Dream is named Grim, while those on the Fantasy, Wonder and Magic are respectively called Mucklebones, Bog and Reap), the Pumpkin Trees are said to keep the spirit of Halloween.

With the introduction of the Disney Wish, this quartet of terrifying trees also got a sister. Named Boo, this elegant Pumpkin Tree has willowy branches heavy with glittering jack-o-lanterns, lighter bark and a graceful face, and once grew the fated gourd that would carry Cinderella to the ball.

Tricks, Treats & Enchanted Entertainment

Halloween on the High Seas means all sorts of spirited special events, along with the many typical activities that are available on a regular Disney cruise. Cruising with Disney during spooky season can even mean double the fun, as many of these spine-tingling sailings also include the ever-popular Pirate Night in their itinerary.

When you aren’t showing off your trivia skills, sunbathing by the pool or channeling your inner swashbuckler, here are the many haunted happenings you can enjoy during Halloween on the High Seas with Disney.

Awakening the Pumpkin Tree

The Pumpkin Tree on each Disney cruise ship is so much more than just an elaborate centerpiece. It also serves as the opening act for the entire Halloween on the High Seas celebration. On the first night, you’ll be treated to storytime by the tree’s caretaker, who tells the tale of the Pumpkin Tree.

Then, it’s time to light the tree’s jack-o-lanterns, which continue to glow for the rest of the trip, making for a can’t-miss photo backdrop. This dazzling display sets the tone for the rest of the cruise’s Halloween festivities and shouldn’t be missed.

Mickey’s Mouse-querade

It wouldn’t be Halloween with Disney without a costume party. Mickey’s Mouse-querade is a spooktacular scare-a-bration starring much-loved Disney characters in full Halloween costumes. If you’d rather not do meet-and-greets, this can be a great way to see your favorite characters show off their frightful finest without spending a ton of time waiting around in line.

Equally as fun is seeing the many creative costumes donned by your fellow cruise guests. From jack-o-lantern t-shirts to clever DisneyBounding takes to extravagant group costumes, you’ll see it all. Make sure to wear your own costume and join the mouse-querade.

Halloween-Themed Disney Character Meet-and-Greets

Disney characters do meet-and-greets throughout your cruise and could even change outfits each time they appear. While it is possible to see your favorites in their bone-chilling best at other points during the cruise, the main time characters will wear their Halloween costumes is on the night of Mickey’s Mouse-querade.

For character chasers, these meet-and-greets are a must. Thankfully, with the exception of characters like Minnie, Daisy and Clarabelle as the Sanderson Sisters of Hocus Pocus fame and The Nightmare Before Christmas ’s Jack and Sally, to a slightly lesser extent, meet-and-greet lines typically aren’t that long. That said, for these more popular characters, you may want to jump in line early or risk missing out if the line gets cut.

Those dressing up like or who share a costume with a particular character definitely won’t want to give these meet-and-greets a miss. For our cruise, my sister, sister-in-law and I DisneyBounded as the Sanderson Sisters, so we made it a point to meet Minnie, Daisy and Clarabelle during their very first appearance. Without a doubt, the pantomimed conversations we had over our shared costumes were some of the most magical moments of our cruise.

Spookalicious Sweet Treats and Other Festive Eats

No Halloween is complete without some trick-or-treating, and the same goes for Disney’s Halloween on the High Seas. On the Disney Dream, crew members passed out generous handfuls of the good stuff along a makeshift trick-or-treat trail through Cabanas. And don’t worry about needing to pack your own bag to store your stash – trick-or-treat bags are left in your stateroom earlier that day.

But, those aren’t the only Halloween eats on offer during this cursed cruise. For dinner in the main dining rooms on the night of Mickey’s Mouse-querade, your table will even tuck into some Chocolate Spider Cake (don’t worry, it isn’t actually made of cocoa-y arachnids).

Your cruise ship’s culinary team also cooks up a buffet of bewitching bites all cruise long. Spine-chilling sweets like cookies, cupcakes, meringues and more (hello, pumpkin spice!) are on offer at the ship’s casual buffet restaurant, certain lounges and the onboard sweetshop. Just keep an eye out for the special Halloween signs.

Haunted Hands-On Activities

One of the best parts of Halloween is getting your hands dirty making jack-o-lanterns. In the spirit of this Halloween tradition, cruisers can also try their hand at a number of autumn-inspired activities.

From creepy cooking demonstrations to arts & crafts to terrifying trivia, there’s something spooky to do for everyone. Little cruisers can even enjoy extra-special Halloween arts and crafts activities especially for them, such as face painting and pumpkin carving.

Spine-tingling Ghost Stories and Movie Screenings

Does your family love a good ghost story? Or perhaps you can’t celebrate Halloween without watching the latest frightful flick? Well, you’re in luck.

Along with showings of favorite Disney Halloween movies on the Funnel Vision screen – Hocus Pocus 2 had just premiered during our cruise and played multiple times during our trip – guests can also enjoy Haunted Stories of the Sea, told beneath the stars by a mysterious sea captain, and The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing and Scream, an interactive movie singalong.

Exclusive Halloween on the High Seas Merchandise

Disney never misses out on a merchandising opportunity, Halloween on the High Seas included. In addition to regular Disney Cruise Line souvenirs, cruisers also have access to special Halloween-themed items created especially for the event, including apparel, pins, mugs and more.

As a result, scary swag can be quite the hot ticket, and it isn’t unheard of for things to sell out before the cruise is through. So, if you see something you like, buy it sooner rather than later or risk missing out.

Halloween Isn’t Just for Kids

Just like Disney Cruise Line isn’t only for families, you don’t need to be a kiddo to get into the spooky spirit during Halloween at the High Seas. On the night of Mickey’s Mouse-querade, the Disney Villains run amuck in the adults-only part of the ship during a ghoulishly grown-up Halloween party.

Sadly, don’t expect them to hang around too long. After all, they’ve got places to be and people to terrorize. Still, their steamy dance appearance is sure to cast a spell. With the villains out of the way, it’s time for a comical (and highly competitive) costume party followed by music and dancing.

On the Disney Dream, this was a silent dance party, which, if you’ve never experienced one before, is both weird and hilarious. Most people weren’t into it and, besides a few lurkers laughing at folks on the floor dancing like no one was watching, the place cleared out pretty quickly after the last award was announced. Still, the costume contest was a ton of fun.

Packing Tips & Experience Tricks for a Spook-tacular Disney Halloween Cruise

Hoping to make the most of your Halloween on the High Seas experience? These suggestions are sure to take your cruise from ordinary to hex-traordinary.

Don’t Forget Your Costume

Dressing up in costume is a Halloween tradition for a reason – it’s undeniably fun! While you don’t need to don anything too extravagant (even a Halloween t-shirt or creative DisneyBound will do), getting in costume will help put you in the appropriate spirit. If you’re anything like us, you’ll also love seeing everyone else on the cruise in their frightening finery.

Worried that you won’t have enough room in your suitcase for two costumes? Just double up and don your pirate attire twice – you’ll save space without having to skip out on the fun. Consider swapping out your swashbuckling accessories or trading with cabinmates to keep your costume feeling fresh. Just be sure that you follow the rules. Certain types of masks are prohibited, as are some prop weapons.

Give Your Door a Pixie-dusted Halloween Makeover

Expert Disney cruisers decorate their stateroom doors. Not only does this make it easier to pick your room out of the lineup of generic doors, but the extra pixie dust is sure to put a smile on your face each time you return “home.”

Stateroom doors are metal, so we recommend using magnets to create your décor. DIY your own or buy some premade off of Etsy – go for a Halloween theme or a general Disney design. If you forget to plan ahead, you might even be able to find some in one of the ship’s onboard gift shops.

Dress Up Your Stateroom with Spell-binding Décor

Don’t confine the Halloween vibes to your stateroom door. For the ultimate spine-chilling experience, consider decorating inside your room, too. If you don’t mind having to set it up, BYOD (bring your own decorations) and save some cash. Or, splurge and arrange to have Disney decorate your room for you. Sure, it’s expensive. But, the surprise of walking into your scream-worthy room for the very first time will be worth it.

Commemorate Your Disney Halloween Cruise with Plenty of Pictures

You’ll find no shortage of photo opportunities on a Disney cruise. And with everyone all dressed up for Halloween with nowhere to go except around the ship, it’s the perfect time to strike a pose.

Use the scream-worthy decorations as a festive photo backdrop, snap a pic alongside your favorite Disney characters in their Halloween best or take advantage of the ship’s dedicated photoshoot spots. Manned by professional photographers, these mini-photo studios boast bewitching backgrounds and monstrously fun Magic Shots for the cruise’s official Halloween party night.

Refer to the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App for Daily Halloween Happenings

There’s so much going on during your Halloween Disney cruise that it can be tricky to keep it all straight. To make things easy, take advantage of the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. Similar to My Disney Experience or the Disneyland app , the Navigator lists out the various activities that are available and lets you bookmark anything that sounds appealing. Then, simply wait for the reminder around 15 minutes before the event starts.

Well, that wraps up our guide to Halloween on the High Seas with Disney Cruise Line. Have you been on a Disney Halloween cruise? What is your favorite part of this spirited sailing? Let us know in the comments! Then, learn how to save on your next Disney cruise.

A Complete Guide on the Disney Halloween Cruise

halloween-on-the-high-seas-minnie-mouse-on-cruise-deck

When sailing on a Disney ship, you are surrounded by the magic of Disney. From themed rooms and restaurants to specialty characters and even fireworks at sea! But something that makes sailing on a Disney ship even more unique is the themed cruises they offer! Guests can enjoy a Halloween on the High Seas , Very Merrytime Cruises, Pixar Day at Sea, Star Wars Day at Sea, and Marvel Day at Sea cruise. My very first Disney cruise was a Disney Halloween cruise  back in 2019! And as a former Cast Member and as someone who loves cheap tickets to Walt Disney World , it was the most magical vacation I’ve ever had. Below are some of my experiences on the Halloween Disney cruise , along with information to help you discover if a Halloween on the High Seas cruise is right for you!

What is Halloween on the High Seas?

  • Halloween on the High Seas is a Disney Cruise Line exclusive Halloween-themed sailing. Setting sail in mid-September through October, this season of extra-special sailings will bring the fun of Halloween to guests on select cruises across the entire DCL fleet. Guests can dress up in their Halloween costumes and join Disney characters in theirs! You can also find dance parties throughout the ships; enjoy a variety of themed food and beverages; and immerse yourself in a ghostly ship takeover with elaborate décor and the magical Pumpkin Tree!

When looking closer at the specially themed cruises, Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime cruises are the only savings that completely change the cruise experience. The other special Days at Sea are just that, Days at Sea. So your entire cruise will not be themed around the day, it will just be one day of the sailing that will be a special theme.

How is a Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Different? – Activities on Board a Disney Halloween Cruise

mickey-and-minnie-in-costumes-for-halloween-on-the-high-seas

The main way the  D isney Halloween cruises are different from non-themed cruises is that the entire ship receives an overhaul to fit with the theme. The only times of the year this happens are on Halloween for Halloween on the High Seas and at Christmas time for the Very Merrytime Cruises . All other sailings throughout the year will have no special theme which allows guests to take in the sheer beauty of the Disney fleet! And when I say complete overhaul for these special cruises, I mean it! Along with pumpkins, bats, and spider decorations, the ships also offer themed activities and specialty characters in Halloween-themed costumes! All of these enhancements are done on every ship that offers the event. Even the Disney Dream Halloween cruise.

What Activities Are on Disney’s Halloween on the High Seas Cruise?

  • Mickey’s Mouse-charade – Shiver in delight during a scare-a-brain with some of your favorite Disney Pals bedecked in their Halloween finest. Do your ghoulish best and join in the fun!
  • Awakening the Pumpkin Tree  – The centerpiece of H alloween on the High Seas Disney cruise . This tree is located in the main atrium and serves as the opening act for the entire Halloween on the High Seas celebration!
  • Spine-Tingling Treats  – Enjoy unique Halloween-themed desserts, beverages and trick-or-treating!
  • Movie Screenings – Watch all of your favorite Disney Halloween movies in the ship’s theaters or on the funnel vision display throughout your cruise. You can also catch world premiers of new Disney Halloween movies if you’re lucky!
  • Friendly Ghost Stories – Guests can enjoy Haunted Stories of the Sea, told beneath the stars by a mysterious sea captain, and The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing and Scream, an interactive movie singalong.
  • Adults-Only Halloween Dance Party – On the same night as the Mouse-masquerade dance party, adults have their dance party in the adult-only section of the ship! Come dressed to impress because you might run into some infamous Disney villains while you dance the night away.

Spooktacular Halloween Decorations Throughout the Ship

The ship is decorated from Bow to the Stern in garlands of autumn leaves, character-inspired pumpkins, and adorable jack-o-lantern stickers on portholes. Each ship gets a full H alloween Disney cruise  makeover with tons of beautiful touches that are sure to put you in the Halloween spirit !

Specialty Character Sightings and Unique Character Costumes

You can catch Micky, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, and Pluto, along with Chip & Dale dressed up in their Halloween Best! In recent years Disney Cruise Line has gotten creative with the character costumes garnishing some much-deserved attention. In 2022, it was announced that Minnie, Daisy, and Clarabelle were going to dress in costume as the three Sanderson Sisters from the Disney cult classic, Hocus Pocus. This created so much buzz that the trio was also introduced to land lovers at Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash.

What is the Cost of Halloween at the High Seas vs. a Typical Disney Cruise?

mickey-and-minnie-on-halloween-cruise-with-kids

With all of the extra activities and perks of H alloween on the High Seas itinerary , you’re probably wondering if it’s more expensive than a normal sailing. And while themed cruises can be slightly more expensive in terms of cost, it depends on other factors of your cruise. When it comes to Disney Cruise Line, the factors that determine the price of your cruise are your sale date, ports of call, and occupancy. So it could work out that your  H alloween on the High Seas  sailing could be just as much or a little less than a normal sailing. Not so favorably, spooky season coincides with Hurricane Season. This is typically the time cruises are less booked and you can find a cheaper price.

What Disney Cruise Ships have Halloween on the High Seas?

Almost every ship in the Disney fleet has a H alloween on the High Seas itinerary . The only ship that doesn’t partake in the celebration is the Disney Wonder. This is because, during this time of the year, the ship is setting sail from different ports around Australia.

Packing and Experience Tips & Tricks for a Disney Halloween Cruise

port-hole-pumpkin-window-decoration-for-halloween

Knowing what to pack for a cruise is an essential part of going on one. Not only will you need your typical vacation items, but you’ll also need things like your passport, cash, a waterproof lanyard, and other items specific to a cruise. Now add in going on a H alloween Disney cruise  on top of that, and your list can get pretty long! Now we aren’t saying you need to bring an additional suitcase, but one must have in your suitcase for your  D isney Halloween cruise  is your costume!

Pack your Halloween Costume

Nothing screams Halloween like dressing up in a costume. And that’s no different on the Disney Cruise Line! Guests are encouraged to wear costumes to Halloween events throughout the sailing. If you’re wondering or concerned about a specific costume, you can find the DCL Costume Guide here . If you don’t have room in your bag for two costumes, don’t worry! There will still be a Pirate Night on H alloween on the High Seas  sailings. You can wear your pirate garb for both events!

Decorate your Stateroom Door with Halloween Themed Magnets

It is tradition to decorate your stateroom door for any Disney Cruise. However, with a D isney Halloween cruise , you can find doors decorated even more than normal! I have three words for you, go all out. If you think you’re doing too much, I promise you you’re not. There are even Facebook groups for individual sailings where you can connect with guests on your cruise to discuss door decor! Make sure to use magnets or bring them for your decorations as the stateroom doors are made of metal.

Disney Cruise Line’s Halloween on the High Seas 2023 Details

5 night halloween disney cruise

Halloween on the High Seas returns to Disney Cruise Line with more sailings than ever before and new one-of-a-kind experiences in September and October 2023. This post shares all of the news, plus quick thoughts from Sarah’s experience during last year’s DCL spook season event.

According to Disney Cruise Line, the 2023 Halloween on the High Seas will bring back more guest-favorite entertainment and activities, including trick-or-treating, spooky parties, elaborate décor and themed food and beverage items. During these limited-time voyages, each ship in the DCL fleet transforms into a ghoulish wonderland.

Halloween on the High Seas voyages will be offered aboard select Disney Cruise Line sailings aboard the Magic, Dream, Fantasy, and Wish ships. Departure dates occur from mid-September through October 2023, with a total of 39 different voyages. The sailings depart from ports in Miami and Port Canaveral, Florida plus San Diego, California and New York City, New York.

Each cruise will take families to fascinating destinations including the Bahamas, Caribbean, California, Bermuda, Canada, and Mexico. All sailings from Port Canaveral and Miami will include a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island paradise outfitted for family fun and relaxation and brimming with special Disney touches, including the following DCL fan favorites.

First up is Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party. Guests of all ages won’t want to miss this spooktacular event. The atrium in each Disney Cruise Line ship will come alive with ghoulish games, trick-or-treating, and dancing, plus the famous Disney characters in their Halloween costumes.

Next, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing and Scream. It’s “Season’s Screamings” during this interactive movie experience—with Jack Skellington and Sally greeting guests plus a special interactive Sing and Scream experience featuring the classic film, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Up on deck, check out the campfire-style Haunted Stories of the Sea, featuring a spooky ghost story or two. Additionally, Halloween-themed movies will be shown on Funnel Vision by the family pool and in staterooms.

Other fun family activities during Halloween on the High Seas include pumpkin-carving, a ghostly takeover of Disney Cruise Line ship announcements, and much more. Guests will also enjoy special Halloween-themed food and beverage items during rotational dining and elsewhere in DCL restaurants.

Finally, proving that Halloween isn’t just for kids , adults will have their fun and (not-so) frightful festivities. Adult-exclusive venues across the fleet will become a ghoulish setting for costume contests and a Villainous Takeover on the dance floor.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Disney Cruise Line hasn’t shared anything new for Halloween on the High Seas 2023, but hopefully it’s as good as the new addition last year: the Sanderson Sisters meet & greet. For those who missed it, this features Minnie is dressed as Winifred Sanderson, Daisy as Sarah Sanderson, and Clarabelle as Mary Sanderson.

Each Disney fur character embodies their respective counterpart from Hocus Pocus , melding their own personalities with the Sanderson Sisters. This meet & greet was fantastic, well worth the often-long wait to meet the Sanderson Sisters!

5 night halloween disney cruise

The Disney Wish, the newest Disney Cruise Line ship, will once again bring its unique twist on a Halloween on the High Seas hallmark. The centerpiece of every ship during Halloween sailings is the signature magical Pumpkin Tree towering over the atrium lobby, each with sprouting Jack-O-Lanterns and flickering lights.

Aboard the Disney Wish, guests will find the Pumpkin Tree in the “Cinderella”-inspired Grand Hall. Featuring lighter bark, graceful branches and a mystical face, this enchanted tree that grew perfect gourds with the help of a Wishing Star at night produced the perfect pumpkin that became the coach that carried Cinderella to the Prince’s Ball.

5 night halloween disney cruise

In terms of commentary, we actually have experience with Halloween on the High Seas. Well, half of us do, at least. Last year, Sarah took a cruise aboard the Disney Wonder with her girlfriends during Halloween on the High Seas.

Sarah absolutely loved Halloween on the High Seas. She thought that the character costumes were adorable and unique, with the Sanderson Sisters being one of many highlights. The overall atmosphere of the ship was spooky thanks to quirky decorations, plenty of pumpkins, and the Halloween tree. Lots of little touches, like unique food and coffee enhanced the atmosphere even further, and gave a Halloween-infused atmosphere to the cruise.

(I’ve been trying to convince Sarah to do a full write-up about Halloween on the High Seas. If this is something you’d like to see, please let us know in the comments!)

5 night halloween disney cruise

We’ve previously done one of the Christmas sailings aboard Disney Cruise Line, and it was a bit underwhelming. (See our Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise Review .) Honestly, in reviewing all of Sarah’s photos and hearing what she had to say about Halloween on the High Seas, it sounds to me like Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise is the more ‘robust’ of the two events.

Perhaps it was simply a matter of unrealistic expectations when we did the Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise. We probably don’t have that to as great of a degree when it comes to Halloween. (And honestly, my memories of the Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise have grown fonder over time. Rereading my review today sounds quite harsh as compared to what I remember!)

Ultimately, Halloween on the High Seas sounds like a lot of fun, and we’re glad to see Disney Cruise Line bringing it back for 2023. Several of the itineraries out of San Diego are actually on our “list” of cruises to do/places to visit, but whether we actually follow through on that this year remains to be seen, and is likely a matter of discount availability (or lack thereof).

Taking my kids on their first cruise – Halloween on the High Seas out of Miami on the Disney Magic this September – I’m so excited & the offerings sound super fun! Can’t wait!!

' src=

I’d love to read a review from Sarah. We’ve booked a cruise over Halloween on the Dream from NYC. We like cruises and love Disney, but we aren’t into character meet and greets in the parks so I’m torn about whether the Disney up charge is worth it. Thanks for these great pictures!

' src=

Are you sailing to Bermuda? If so, be prepared for rough seas on return trip Other people I’ve talked to said that’s common. We were all sick

' src=

It’s two sea days to Bermuda and two back (although they could do it in one if they wanted – it all depends on the itinerary) and yes those can be very rough waters. That said I learned to enjoy the rocking and rolling. One of the keys is to go with the motion not fight it and when walking pick one spot ahead of you to focus on. Do not try looking all around you. These are not tips from a cruiser. I was fortunate enough to work on ships in shall we say a rather fun position. There’s more than rough seas that you should know about when it comes to trips to Bermuda. October is considered the worst month to travel there because it’s the rainy month. Sept has the greatest chance of a storm turning into a hurricane while October has a modest risk but these are hurricane months. Actually the best time to visit Bermuda is now. April and May are the ideal months. PS You don’t need to be fearful of Hurricanes as the ships have incredible systems to avoid them but even though they will be far off those will be the truly rough seas when you need to go to your cabin, lie down, close your eyes and enjoy the roller coaster.

Yikes, thanks for the heads up! That doesn’t sound fun at all. We did a cruise (Royal Caribbean) last August from NY to Bermuda and got very lucky with still water

' src=

We have done many Halloween and Christmas cruises with Disney. What I have noticed over the years is especially for Christmas is less decorations and holiday events on the ship the further away from the holiday. We always do the merrytime cruise early December and there was no tree on the island and only decorations in the main lobby of ship. Holiymusic only plaid on one of the days and for only a couple of hours. We asked about caroling and other events and was told you have to book closer to Christmas. In my opinion if you book a Halloween or merrytime cruise it should be consistent throughout the bookings.

Another vote for a Sarah Sets Sail Sea Story. She’s been missing for sometime now. I miss her room review videos where you scale walls and crawl across the ceiling in order to open and close a couch/bed or bathroom shower door.

' src=

We haven’t had any new rooms to record recently! As soon as we’re able to book Boulder Ridge or the new rooms at Caribbean Beach, those videos will return!

Our last cruise on the Magic in 2018 was our granddaughter’s first Disney cruise. She loved it The Halloween Party was epic and the characters in costumes made it extra special. We’re going on the Wish in October and look forward to it after many rescheduled cruises cancelled due to you know what

' src=

My daughter and I are going on the wish for Halloween. She in charge of the fish extenders for the trip. I am so looking forward to all the activities we have planned. We have been watching every you-tube on Disney cruise that we can find.

' src=

Sarah, please do the write up!!!!!

Sorry, thought the other comment didn’t post.

Sarah, do the write up please!!!!

' src=

Definitely interested in a write up of Sarah’s experience! Booked one of the San Diego Halloween cruises as our first DCL cruise this year.

' src=

Us, too! We’d love to hear about this cruise!

' src=

Yup, another vote for Sarah’s DCL reviews!

' src=

“my memories of the Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise have grown fonder over time. Rereading my review today sounds quite harsh as compared to what I remember!” I’m glad to read that. We booked a Very Merrytime Cruise for this coming December despite your less than glowing review. We aren’t “cruise people”, and your not loving it really made me question my decision making. That being said, the pricing was pretty good, and with aging grandparents we thought it would be a good way to do another multi generational trip. Looking forward to giving DCL a shot for the first time.

' src=

Drew, My first cruise ever was the Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise which I took in 2018 with my daughter and mom. I was not sure if I was a “cruise person” but I truly enjoyed it and would do that cruise it again. My daughter enjoyed seeing the characters with winter costumes, singing Christmas carols with other children and meeting Santa Claus. It was a festive atmosphere, service and food were excellent and all in all a very good multi generational trip. I am sure you will have a wonderful trip.

Thank you Marie-France. That’s encouraging!

5 Must-Do Halloween on the High Seas Activities Aboard Your Disney Cruise

by Jenn Marrazzo | Oct 7, 2021 | Disney Cruise Line , Disney Dream , Disney Fantasy , Disney Magic , Disney Wish , Disney Wonder

Learn about all the scare-tastic Halloween on the High Seas activities that make this exclusive Disney Cruise extra special.

In addition to regular sailings aboard Disney Cruise Line’s four (soon to be five) ships, you can book special voyages for Christmas and Halloween (as well as special Marvel and Star Wars excursions). One of our favorite cruises is the Halloween on the High Seas, available on all ships with various itineraries .

Every year, starting in early to mid- September, guests can hop aboard one of these Disney Cruise ships and celebrate Halloween on the High Seas. Think Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Boo Bash meets your favorite Disney Cruise.

So what makes these special cruises so, well, special? Keep reading to learn about the exclusive, can’t-miss activities onboard a Halloween on the High Seas voyage.

[metaslider id=”50088″]

1. Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party

The main event of a Halloween on the High Seas cruise is Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party , which is suitable for guests of all ages.

This is the time to see all of your favorite Disney characters in their Halloween costumes . The event starts out with a dance party hosted by none other than Mickey Mouse .

While the experience may vary in 2021 due to COVID-19 precautions , costumes, dancing, and fun are all still happening.

Usually, these events occur about two times a night so there are multiple opportunities for guests to take part in the festive activities. Once the dance party is over, the fun doesn’t end. Then it’s time for trick-or-treating, character meet-and-greets, more.

Don’t forget: Halloween is all about those awesome costumes , so what better place to show them off than on a Halloween on the High Seas sailing?  The whole family can take part in the fun with matching costumes during Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party.

Usually, like Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line has a policy against adults wearing costumes onboard when it isn’t a themed cruise or night. This Halloween on the High Seas activity is an exception to the rule , making it a great opportunity to dress up as your favorite character.

2. Character Meet-and-Greets

Something that Disney Cruise Line is famous for is its onboard character meet-and-greets and photo opportunities. These are definitely not lacking on a specialty Halloween voyage.

While voyages sailing in 2021 won’t have the same up-close character meet-and-greets , guests can still meet their favorite characters in a socially distanced manner. Some meet-and-greets allow guests to take a distanced selfie or have a cruise line photographer available for a distanced photo.

Halloween sailings are awesome for character meetings since you can see some unique ones that aren’t usually around, like Jack & Sally . Plus, you can see all of your favorites in some cute costumes, like Witch Minnie and Candy Corn Pluto .

[metaslider id=”40370″]

3. Haunted Stories of the Seas

Another fun activity for the w hole family is the Haunted Stories of the Seas event . During this special event, guests gather around the pool deck to hear some spooky stories.

Think campfire stories aboard a cruise ship , with some delicious ice cream and snacks not too far away and easily accessible, as a sea captain tells ghost stories under the stars . While these are ghost stories, they are family-friendly so don’t worry about the kids getting scared.

4. Halloween Isn’t Just for Kids

If you’ve read our previous post , you know Disney cruises aren’t just for kids . We adults deserve a spooktacular time too.

That’s why Disney created the Halloween Isn’t Just for Kids event , located in the adult entertainment district onboard.

This party has a lot to love, including an adult costume contest to special Halloween-themed drinks and a villain-themed party .

Be sure to check your Navigator , whether that’s the paper copy or on your app , to see when and where these adult-themed festivities are taking place.

5. The Lighting of the Pumpkin Tree

Of all the must-do Halloween on the High Seas activities, this may sound the strangest. We’re headed to a tree lighting . Yes, a tree lighting. For Halloween.

When you enter the grand lobby of your Disney cruise, you’ll be greeted by the Pumpkin Tree. This large and grand piece is a fixture in the lobby with pumpkins hanging from the branches.

On the first night of the cruise, the caretaker of the tree will greet guests and tell them a scary story. Then it’s time for the big event: the lighting of the tree. After this event, the tree stays lit for the whole cruise.

Be sure to head to the lobby early to get a good spot for the viewing. You can even head to the upper lobby decks for a great view of the tree lighting from above.

Halloween on the High Seas With Disney Cruise Line

Matt Stroshane / Disney Cruise Line

Every fall, Disney Cruise Line gets into the holiday spirit with special  Halloween on the High Seas voyages. Although the itineraries vary slightly from year to year, Disney ships guarantee kid-friendly thrills aplenty, including decorations, unique menu items in restaurants, themed parties on deck, and even a Pumpkin Tree that magically transforms throughout the cruise.

Halloween on the High Seas itineraries take between three and seven days and can travel to Canada , the Caribbean , Mexico , and the Bahamas . Ships depart from Port Canaveral near Orlando, New York City, and San Diego.

In 2020, Halloween on the High Seas has been canceled due to all Disney cruises being suspended through at least December 6.

What to Expect on Disney Halloween Cruises

On these festive, not-too-spooky cruises, kids and adults alike can partake in Halloween-themed parties, enjoy lively entertainment, and marvel at elaborate décor, such as the iconic Pumpkin Tree. Other festive touches include mask-making and a ghostly takeover of the ship announcements.

  • Character encounters : Beloved Disney characters dressed in Halloween costumes wander about the ship constantly, providing plenty of photo ops throughout the cruise.
  • Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party : Expect games, dancing, trick-or-treating, and familiar Disney faces joining guests at this Mickey-hosted costume party .
  • The Pumpkin Tree : Based on a Ray Bradbury story, the Pumpkin Tree is an autumnal prop that's unique to each ship. It changes, with the help of a storytelling caretaker, over the course of the trip.
  • "A Nightmare Before Christmas" Sing and Scream : During this movie sing-along experience, guests become part of the action. After the film, main characters Jack Skellington and Sally make an appearance.
  • Haunted Stories of the Sea : The bravest cruisers gather under the stars to hear some true—or not-so-true—tales of the sea told by a mysterious sea captain storyteller.
  • The Creepy Cabaret : This party in the atrium features Halloween-themed music performed live by a band of ghostly musicians.
  • Halloween Isn’t Just For Kids : The nighttime entertainment district on each Disney ship becomes the ghoulish setting for an adults-only costume contest and Villainous Takeover on the dance floor.
  • Themed eats : Disney Cruise Line chefs conjure some very special treats for Halloween, including chocolate cake with pumpkin filling, spider cakes, and “Spooky Juice.”

2020 Halloween on the High Seas Sailings

This year's Halloween cruises have been canceled.

  • From Port Canaveral : Three- or four-night cruises depart from Port Canaveral, Florida—near Orlando—to the Bahamas on the Disney Fantasy (September 7 through October 30) or Disney Dream (October 2 through 5).
  • From San Diego : You can board a two-, four-, five-, or seven-night cruise to Mexico on the Disney Wonder (September 23 through October 28) from Southern California.
  • From New York City : Disney Magic launches from the Big Apple toward either sunny Bermuda or chilly Canada on a five-night cruise from October 12 through 27, 2020.

2021 Halloween on the High Seas Sailings

Plan ahead for Halloween on the High Seas' 2021 itineraries, starting September 3 and lasting through Halloween.

  • From Port Canaveral : More than 15 three- or four-night cruises to Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney's private island, Castaway Bay , are offered from Florida. Another six-, seven-, or eight-night option stops at multiple tropical ports of call on the way to the Caribbean.
  • From San Diego : From California, you can board a three-, four-, five-, or seven-night voyage to Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta on the Disney Wonder.
  • From New York City : Cruises from New York include a five-night venture to Bermuda (including one that ends in San Juan) and a six-night trip to Canada stopping in Saint John, Halifax, and Bar Harbor, Maine.

Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

We just returned from a 3-day trip on Disney Wish and share it all with you in our signature Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas

Share this post:

Disney Wish  is Disney Cruise Line’s 5th ship. This 144K gross ton vessel is DCL’s first new ship in over a decade and now the largest ship in the fleet. This new vessel features a number of new dining concepts, onboard amenities, and one-of-a-kind features that kids and adults alike will enjoy.

We first sailed on Disney Wish a few months ago for a 3-day Bahamas cruise . As our first Disney cruise, we couldn’t wait to get back onboard this ship. So, we booked another cruise for my birthday. Now, we have returned from our second sailing and share it all with you in our signature day-by-day Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Halloween on the High Seas is available on select cruises in September and October across the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Similar to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in the Disney parks, Halloween on the High Seas includes holiday themed activities and character meet and greets along with all the cruise staples.

From the pumpkin tree in the Grand Hall to Mickey’s Mouse-querade party and Disney characters donned in their Halloween costumes, Halloween on the High Seas is fun for all ages. Additionally, there are other activities held in the kids and teens areas throughout the cruise.

Admittedly, we are two adults with no kids, but we did feel there could have been more Halloween-themed activities for us big kids. Still, we packed our costumes and enjoyed our time on the new Disney Wish.

Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review – Day 1

A pre-cruise day.

Unlike our last cruise on Disney Wish, we flew into Orlando the night before our sailing. We secured a hotel near the Port Canaveral cruise port. The Springhill Suites Cape Canaveral is a newer hotel in the area and a great pre-cruise hotel option.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

Even though there are many great activities in the Port Canaveral area , we did not arrive until the evening. Thus, we didn’t have time to do much else besides sleep.

For our last cruise, we booked a DCL transfer straight from the airport. This time around, we took an Uber to the cruise port in morning. We checked out of our hotel right at 11 AM, and it took less than 10 minutes to arrive at Terminal 8.

Arriving at the terminal, there were small lines forming outside based on port arrival time. However, we headed straight to the Castaway Cay Club members line. We then proceeded through the check-in process and security rather quickly.

Taking the escalator up to the waiting area, we realized that they had not started boarding yet. So, we headed outside to the viewing area to grab some photos of the ship in the meantime. Finally, the family of the day was called around 11:40 AM, followed by subsequent boarding groups.

5 night halloween disney cruise

It was our turn to board Disney Wish, and get this Disney Halloween on the High Seas cruise review started, just after 12 PM. When the Bucolo family was announced, we were greeted by some festive fall décor in the Grand Hall setting the scene for our spooktacular next three days onboard this ship.

Our Second Look at Disney Wish

Since we had already captured much of the photos and videos we needed during our last trip, we spent the next 45 minutes or so strolling the ship along with checking into our muster station.

Prior to this sailing, we had tried to book Palo Steakhouse and the Just Desserts event at Enchante but were unsuccessful. Further, we were waitlisted for early dining and never got it. So, we joined many other guests in the reservation line forming outside Luna’s in hopes of securing more optimal dining.

When the desks opened at 1 PM, we learned that Enchante was only serving dinner this sailing. Although, the cast member was able to secure us both a dinner reservation and a brunch reservation at Palo Steakhouse.

Next, we hopped over to the main dining room line. We were not so lucky here though. Unfortunately, we were not able to switch to early dining or a table for two. This meant we would be dining at 8:15 PM, which is pretty late for us.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

With all this talk of food, we were starting to get hungry. Around 1:30 PM, we made our way up to the Festival of Foods on the pool deck. This casual eatery has five different food stations, including a grill, cantina, and a BBQ. We really enjoyed the selections here during our last cruise, so we couldn’t wait to get back.

I grabbed some chicken tacos from my favorite spot, Donald’s Cantina. The hubby headed over to Mickey’s Smokestack BBQ where he dug into some brisket and ribs. Once again, these lunch selections did not disappoint. In our opinion, this is one of the best casual eateries at sea.

What’s lunch without a little dessert? Instead of sampling Sweet Minnie’s Ice Cream, we decided to check out Inside Out: Joyful Sweets. This shop offers up-charge ice cream, gelato, and other sweet treats. I opted for the cupcake batter gelato and Don ordered a scoop of the peanut butter and snickers gelato. Both flavors were delicious! While a bit pricey at $3.75 a scoop, it was worth it.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Next up, it was time for our afternoon caffeine fix. So, we headed up to the Cove Cafe to grab a latte before making our way to our cabin around 2:30 PM. On Disney Cruise Line, the staterooms are not ready until around 2 PM; although, we must have missed the official announcement that they were ready.

A Very Disney Sail Away

For this Halloween on the High Seas cruise review, we booked a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah. This deck 9 cabin, 9120, featured the Sleeping Beauty theme.

According to Disney Cruise Line’s website, a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah is approximately 284 square feet and sleeps 4 to 5 guests. This increased space is definitely noticeable when compared to family cabins on other contemporary cruise lines.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

There was plenty of storage and sleeping space for 5 guests. This stateroom had a queen bed, an optional upper-berth single pull-down bed, a single convertible sofa, and a single wall pull-down bed. Further, the cabin featured Disney’s signature split bathroom set up, with a toilet/sink and a shower/sink combo.

Unfortunately, only one of our two suitcases had arrived so we weren’t able to unpack just yet. Instead, we took the time to collect footage of the cabin for our upcoming reviews.

Around 3:30 PM, we headed up to deck 13 between the Quiet Cove and AquaMouse for a great aerial view of the Sail Away Party set to begin in an hour. With prime seats secured, we grabbed official sail away drinks from the nearby Cove Bar, a strawberry basil spritz and a mai tai.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Right on cue, the Fairy Godmother made her way on stage along with all your other Disney friends. With 15 minutes of celebration and a “When You Wish Upon a Star” horn, it was time to make the most of these three days. Let’s Set Sail!

Tonight, our Palo Steakhouse reservation was for 6 PM. Thus, we headed back to our cabin to unpack, settle in, and get ready for dinner.

Our First Time at Palo

Palo Steakhouse is one of the upscale specialty dining venues on the new Disney Wish that is exclusively for adults. This evolution of the Palo restaurant found on other DCL ships combines authentic Italian dining with a modern steakhouse.

When dining at Palo, guests can choose either a prixe-fixe menu which is priced at $45 or pay a la carte.

Upon arriving at this specialty restaurant, we were quickly escorted to a table for two at the very back of the restaurant. Our waiter, Adi, was quick to come by to introduce himself and provide some insight into the menu. Actually, given how difficult it was to get reservations, we were surprised at how quiet the venue was tonight.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Given the prixe-fixe menu options, we decided to pay a la carte for our selections. This 4-course feast lasted about two hours. It was filled with delicious food, drinks, and aft-facing views.

We began the evening with some drinks and appetizers. I ordered the tomato and burrata, and hubby ordered the calamari and shrimp appetizer. Both were tasty renditions of these classic dishes. We then decided to split a pasta course as the butternut squash agnolotti sounded good.

For entrees, I went with the only chicken dish on the menu of course. Don was debating between the osso buco and a steak, but he went with the osso buco based on the waiter’s recommendation. While my chicken dish was a bit dry, the osso buco was flavorful and tender. The side dish of mac and cheese was really good too.

5 night halloween disney cruise

By now, we were getting quite full, but we couldn’t pass up dessert. So, we decided to split the amaretto soufflé with hazelnut gelato. The was light and airy making it the perfect ending to a wonderful meal at Palo Steakhouse.

Our server Adi was friendly and delivered timely and personal service for a true upscale dining experience.

Impressed with dinner at Palo, we were eager to return for brunch tomorrow.

An Evening on Disney Wish

We were finished with our dinner just in time to head to the Walt Disney Theater for the 8:30 PM showing of tonight’s signature production, Disney Seas the Adventure.

It was fairly busy when we arrived, but we were able to squeeze into some seats on the starboard side of the venue for this 40-minute show.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

Disney Seas the Adventure is a revue show featuring Captain Minnie, Goofy, and some of your other favorite Disney characters. While it is high-energy and cute, it’s certainly not a Broadway caliber production. Still, it is a fun welcome aboard activity that is distinctly Disney.

Following the show, we perused Mickey’s Main Sail gift shop for any new merchandise. Since nothing caught our eye, we grabbed seats in Nightingale’s for some drinks and piano music.

The Nightingale’s menu is divided into sections based on bubbles. I went with a familiar favorite the Crystal Slipper from the Air Bubbles section. DB got a bit more daring with a Frozen Bubbles selection. This chocolate concoction comes complete with a small mallet to break the ice bubble. A few attempts and much amusement later, we could now enjoy our drinks and the tunes.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

I guess we were envisioning more of a piano bar feel like HAL or Royal Caribbean ships; however, this was just background piano music without the singing or lively atmosphere. So, we made our exit around 10:30 PM in time for the Sanderson Sisters in the Grand Hall.

This is Disney, so we should have expected the long line for this photo op. Nonetheless, we decided not to wait as the sisters were making more appearances tomorrow. Instead, we went for a short walk around the ship and decided to call it a night.

Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review – Day 2

A “sea day” for us.

Day 2 of this Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review was a stop in Nassau, Bahamas. Like many others, this meant we would be staying on the ship today for our “sea day”.

Sleeping in a bit this morning, Don did the typical morning routine of coffee and photos/videos while I got ready.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

We had brunch at Palo today at noon, so we decided to skip breakfast. Instead, we strolled the Grand Atrium to see some of the Disney characters and eventually made our way up to the Quiet Cove.

Securing some seats in the shade on the starboard side, we relaxed and caught up on a little work. Don decided that he wanted to do the Chewbacca meet and greet at 11 AM, so he made his way down to the Star Wars Cargo Bay.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

On his way back, he stopped in at Palo to inquire about the dress code. While we knew there was one for dinner, we assumed shorts would be okay for brunch. That was not the case though. Thus, we needed to head back to our cabin for a quick costume change.

A Fancy Brunch

Arriving a few minutes late for our 12 PM reservation, we found the restaurant much busier than last evening.

We were soon greeted by our same waiter from last night, Adi. To no fault of his own, service was slower today taking a full two hours for brunch.

The brunch at Palo Steakhouse is an up-charge of $45 per person and consists of several upscale breakfast and lunch menu items. I was set on trying the chicken parm, but I also wanted to sample some of the breakfast items.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After a round of mimosas, we decided on our order. I went with the apple cinnamon waffle and the chicken parm. The hubby went with an antipasti selection, a frittata, and lasagna. We then finished the meal off with a sticky bun and limoncello torte.

While we were overly impressed with dinner yesterday, the brunch here was just average in our opinion. The chicken parm and lasagna were pretty typical cruise dishes and not the same quality we would get from an Italian restaurant on land. While the breakfast dishes were the highlight, we aren’t sure that the overall meal was worth the price.

Given the restaurant was so busy, we just missed the 2 PM photo op with the Sanderson Sisters. This meant we had to kill some time before the next one at 3:30 PM. So, we went back to our cabin to change back into daytime attire and checked some emails in the meantime.

The Witches Are Back

Of course, a Disney Halloween on the High Seas cruise review wouldn’t be complete without a picture with the Sanderson Sisters. Thus, around 3 PM, we made sure to get in line to ensure we wouldn’t miss this opportunity.

At long last, we got our 30 seconds in the spotlight with the witches. Coincidently, there was also a Captain Hook photo op occurring nearby. Sure, why not.

5 night halloween disney cruise

By now, it was close to 4 PM, and we needed our afternoon dose of coffee. Back up to the Quiet Cove, we grabbed lattes and seats to relax here for about an hour.

Given we had late dinner, we needed to catch the 6 PM show in the main theater. Tonight’s line up was 1923 and The Little Mermaid.

Giving ourselves enough time to shower and change up for dinner and the show, we arrived to the theater just before showtime. Thankfully, we were able to find seats in about the same location as last night.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a 60-minute, Broadway-style adaptation of the original film. The singing, dancing, and stage set make for a solid performance, even if we think the ending deviates a bit too much from the original film.

Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me

After the show, we followed the crowds up to the pool deck for Mickey’s Pirate Party. That’s right, tonight was pirate night on Disney Wish. While the Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party was occurring later in the evening, this party featured Mickey and friends in a more family-friendly performance.

Beginning at 7:45 PM, this 20-minute show included singing and dancing with the characters dressed in their finest pirate attire. Since we are big kids at heart, we enjoyed the show.

5 night halloween disney cruise

From here, we headed straight to dinner at 1923. Of the three rotational restaurants on Disney Wish , this was our favorite during our last sailing. So, we were eager to see how our experience compared.

A Return Visit to 1923

Upon arriving, we were escorted to our assigned table, Table 611. Once again, this was a table for 6. It was pretty close to other tables for 6 as well, making it almost a banquet-like setup. In fact, all of the dining rooms on Disney Wish are very tight and do not offer many private tables, which is a turn off for us.

Nonetheless, our waitstaff of Charles and Anna were quick to introduce themselves and deliver bread and water. With only one other couple showing up a bit after us, our meals were a bit delayed to put us on pace with them. This complete dining experience took about two hours.

Our menu selections this time consisted of some old and new dishes. Don started with the spiced ahi tuna, and I ordered the tortelloni. Both of these dishes were pretty average when compared to other main dining room experiences.

5 night halloween disney cruise

For entrees, I did the Riverside Roasted Chicken. While last time I though the dish was specialty restaurant quality, it was not as well-prepared this time around. Don ordered the Peppered Filet Mignon. It was cooked to his requested medium rare temperature, well-seasoned with pepper, and was on par with last time.

The desserts were perhaps the highlight of the meal, with the apple cheesecake being the best dish of the night.

While the food quality was not as good as we remembered, our waitstaff were definitely superior. Charles and Anna were friendly and accommodating.

Rounding Out the Evening

With dinner finished just in time, we headed back upstairs to the pool deck for the Pirates Parlay party. With the main pool deck already rather busy, we secured rail spots on deck 12 starboard.

Classic rock songs, some pirate fun, and fireworks make this a must attend activity. There’s even an appearance by Captain Jack Sparrow! If you want to step it up a notch, pack some pirate attire for the festivities.

5 night halloween disney cruise

When this 30-minute show finished, we made our way back inside to our favorite venue, The Bayou.

Unfortunately, we never did catch any live music in this venue during this sailing. Actually, it seemed like there may have been less live entertainment this cruise when compared to last cruise.

Still, we sipped some drinks and people-watched for about an hour. We may have also ordered some beignets to-go for breakfast tomorrow morning.

5 night halloween disney cruise

When we retired to our cabin for the evening, we were greeted by one of the best towel animals ever!

Tomorrow was already our final day of the cruise and our visit to Castaway Cay.

Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review – Day 3

Our second visit to castaway cay.

Day 3 of this Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review was our stop in Castaway Cay, Disney’s private resort in the Bahamas. While we did visit Castaway Cay on our last Disney Wish cruise, we spent much of our time just exploring the island. Today, we were actually going to enjoy it!

Pre-cruise, hubby secured a combo package for snorkeling, a bike rental, and a float rental. My plan was to relax on the beach. After all, it was a Sunday.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

Up around 7 AM, Don headed out for coffee while I got ready. Our ship was supposed to be cleared by 8:30 AM, and we planned to head ashore right away.

Approaching that time and no announcement made, we made our way down towards the gangway anyway. We were greeted by a crowd of other fellow cruisers eager to enjoy Castaway Cay as well.

Within 10 minutes or so, we were able to scan off the ship and get our day started. We spent the first 90 minutes walking around to refresh our memory, as this was only our second visit to the island ever.

Securing some additional photos and videos, we eventually set up shop on Family Beach.

With a nice spot in the shade, I relaxed while Don set off on his bike ride. During this leisurely hour bike rental along the airstrip, he traversed both trails including a stop at the Observation Tower. Getting some photos and videos along the way, he returned for his next adventure, snorkeling.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Grabbing some equipment from the nearby rental shack, he set off in search of Disney treasure. Castaway Cay has a 22-acre snorkel lagoon at Family Beach, with two trails depending on your expert level. Here, you can discover submerged statues, former ride vehicles, and more.

After his 75 minutes of snorkeling, he had worked up an appetite. Thus, we packed up and took the tram over to Serenity Bay. We had read that this adult-only area had some upscale offerings on its BBQ buffet, so we wanted to check it out.

The island’s BBQ lunch ends at 2 PM. Luckily, we arrived with 30 minutes to spare, giving us enough time to enjoy some of the selections.

Since I am a picky eater, I stuck with some pasta salad and fruit. However, the hubby did enjoy all the BBQ options. From the corn bread and potato salad, to the ribs and sirloin, it was a satisfying meal. Yes, the BBQ at Serenity Bay does offer steak.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Since the staff were quick to close up shop, we decided to just head back to the main area of the island for some shopping before heading back to the ship.

Finished around 3 PM, it was another great day at Castaway Cay.

Halloween on the High Seas on Disney Wish

Back onboard the ship, we took some time to relax and cool off.

Tonight was when all the Halloween on the High Seas fun was occurring. Since we didn’t want to miss any of it, we decided to just grab a casual dinner prior to our 6 PM showing of Aladdin in the main theater.

Showered up and ready for our last night on Disney Wish, we made a return trip to the Festival of Foods. A miss on this ship is that the Marceline Market (the cruise ship’s buffet) is not open for dinner.

5 night halloween disney cruise

This time, we grabbed selections from Goofy’s Grill and Daisy’s Pizza Pies. At the Grill, I went with chicken tenders and Don with the grilled bratwurst. These selections are definitely on par with quick service in Disney parks and better than most cruise ship buffet selections. Although, the pizza is not among our favorites at sea. That award still goes to Princess Cruises and Virgin Voyages.

After dinner, we grabbed some popcorn in our refillable popcorn bucket and headed to the final show in the Walt Disney Theater. TIP: If you bring your popcorn bucket from the Disney parks, it is only $1.50 for refills.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular was not ready for our last sailing on Disney Wish back in July, so we were excited to see this show. This adaptation of Aladdin was very entertaining with plenty of Disney humor courtesy of the Genie. It was certainly our favorite of the three main theater shows.

Following this production, we hustled back to the cabin to change up into our Halloween costumes for the 7:45 PM Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party. This 20-minute show on the pool deck consisted of Mickey and friends in their Halloween costumes dancing to popular songs like the Monster Mash.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

Fitting It All In

Just after 8 PM, the night was still young. We actually had a few bars on Disney Wish that we still needed to visit as well. First on the list was the Hyperspace Lounge. This venue no longer requires reservations. In fact, it was quite empty during our visit.

We spend about 45 minutes here enjoying our drinks and the scenery. Unfortunately, this bar is kind of a miss. With the elaborate Star Wars theming in the kids areas, we were expecting more out of this bar.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Around 9 PM, we got in line for a photo op with Captain Minnie. Since we were dressed in our costumes, we figured a few pictures were a must. We debated also hopping into the Captain Mickey line, but it was quite long so we passed.

Instead, we headed over to Luna’s for a few of the game shows and some drinks. First up was Heard That, a version of Name That Lyric. The hubby also grabbed a beer from the nearby Keg & Compass, while I enjoyed one of the drinks from the Luna’s menu.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We finished up the evening in Luna’s with Match Your Mate. This always funny version of the Love and Marriage show did not disappoint. With plenty of laughs, we called it a night around 11:30 PM.

Since we did not get a chance to pack today, we needed to wake up extra early tomorrow morning.

Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review – Disembarkation

Until next time.

Today was the worst day of this Disney Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review, disembarkation day! Unfortunately, we would not be extending our trip with a visit to the Disney parks like we did last time. Instead, we were heading back home for a short time until our next cruise.

Up at 5:30 AM, we began packing. We were doing self-assist disembarkation this morning which was set to start somewhere around 7:15 AM.

When the venues opened at 6:30 AM, hubby headed upstairs to grab our usual morning lattes and some food from the Marceline Market to bring back to the cabin.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Between packing, eating, and showering, we were ready just in time for the ship to be cleared slightly after 7:30 AM.

Not that we had to catch an early flight, but it was Monday morning and hubby had to work. We actually booked a day room at the Hyatt Regency at the airport since our flight wasn’t until 7 PM.

Ready for disembarkation, we did have to wait a few for an elevator that would accommodate us and our two suitcases. Once down to deck 3, it was a quick scan off the ship and into the terminal building. We did wait about 30 minutes in the terminal for CBP.

With an Uber drive from Port Canaveral to the MCO airport, we checked into the hotel around 9:30 AM. We then proceeded to get caught up on life, the website, and work for the remainder of the day. It was going to be a crazy few days back home before heading off on our next back to back adventure.

Disney's Halloween on the High Seas Cruise Review

Thankfully, there were no flight delays, and we arrived back at home around 11 PM just in time to crash.

Next up is the MerMaiden voyage on Valiant Lady followed by the U.S. inaugural cruise from Fort Lauderdale on Celebrity Beyond. Be sure to follow along with all these adventures on our social media and YouTube channels as well.

Disney Wish Cruise Review (Our Experience with Halloween on the High Seas)

Home » Firefly Blog » Disney Wish Cruise Review (Our Experience with Halloween on the High Seas)

In this article, we provide a review of the Disney Wish. We’ll discuss our experience on the 5-day, 4-night Halloween on the High Seas Cruise. Our ports of call for this sailing include Nassau, Bahamas and Castaway Cay.

Bon Voyage! I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to hear those words roll off my tongue again. If you’ve had the opportunity to cruise with Disney Cruise Line, I’m sure you understand.

There’s nothing like it. From the moment you step on board, life has changed, at least for the length of your sailing. You are no longer tied down to a job or at the beck and call of text messages and social media alerts.

Of course, you can always buy an internet package if you need to be alerted. But that kills the whole cruising vibe of being out of reach.

We recently cruised out of Cape Canaveral, Florida, on the new Disney Wish. Not only did we experience a Halloween on the High Seas sailing, but our sail date was on Halloween.

However, since our departure date was exceptionally busy, we waited until the following day to celebrate the holiday. No worries, once you’re out at sea, it becomes difficult to distinguish between the days.

As you may know, a cruise can be as busy as you want or relaxed. Our cruise was a bit of both.

Below, I’ll share our day-by-day itinerary. Of course, some of us went our separate ways here and there to do things we enjoyed.

But ultimately, we met up for dinner each evening. As always, there’s one exception. That exception was Kristen’s son, who spent most of the cruise living his best life at The Oceaneer’s Club.

Disney Wish Day One Itinerary (Arrival and Boarding the Ship)

How do you get to the ship? This is one of the most commonly asked questions first-time cruisers ask. Thankfully, Disney makes it easy.

When sailing out of Cape Canaveral, most will fly into Orlando’s airport (MCO) and take ground transportation to the cruise terminal. Disney provides transfers from the airport or various Walt Disney World Hotels for $78.00 per person roundtrip.

Other options include hiring a private car service, or shuttle service, using Uber or Lyft, renting a car, or driving your vehicle. As your travel agent, we can help you decide which option suits your needs.

Since I live in Orlando, I drove my car to the terminal. Disney makes it simple to park and board the shuttle.

When you first arrive, porters are waiting to collect your luggage. You can see in the picture below where guests pull up and unload under a covered area.

5 night halloween disney cruise

If you elect to use a porter, you will need to tip them. From that point, you’ll move forward to park your car and go through security. You will see your luggage later in the day when it shows up in the hallway outside your room.

It costs us $90.00 to park in the parking deck for a five-day, four-night cruise.

A walkway on the third floor of the parking deck goes directly inside the cruise terminal. It took less than 15 minutes to get through both areas.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After you get through customs, there’s a large room where guests wait until their boarding group is called. We got there reasonably early, and they had only started boarding. Overall, we waited approximately 30 minutes until our boarding group was called.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Then you join a line to board the ship.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Here we go!

5 night halloween disney cruise

After boarding the ship, our priority was to complete the muster drill. A muster drill is a required safety exercise where you go to a designated location to check in with a crew member. We also had to sign in to the mobile app and certify that we had found our area.

Muster drills are mandatory and designed to help passengers locate the area where they are to go in the event of an emergency.

After completing our safety check, I noticed that Captain Minnie was greeting guests. So we stopped for a photo. Then we headed up deck 11 to have lunch at Marceline Market.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Marceline Market is a buffet that’s open daily for breakfast and lunch. It’s located on the aft side of the ship.

To eat at Marceline Market, all you have to do is walk in, prepare a plate, select a drink, and then find a table. A server will stop by from time to time to collect any dishes you’ve finished.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Regarding come-and-go dining options, you can also get lunch and dinner at the Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods. These quick services have walk-up windows located on deck 11 near the ship’s pools.

  • Mickey’s Barbecue
  • Donald’s Cantina
  • Daisy’s Pizzas
  • Goofy’s Grill
  • Minnie’s Ice Cream

After lunch, it was past 1:00 p.m., so we decided to see if our room was ready. Thankfully, our keys were in an envelope at the door to our room.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Our Stateroom on the Disney Wish

Staterooms on the Wish are themed to various Disney animated films. For example, our room featured elements from  Cinderella .

Below we’ll preview our deluxe ocean-view stateroom with a verandah. This room sleeps up to three guests and has a partially obstructed view from the balcony.

5 night halloween disney cruise

A throw with the Wish logo was at the end of the queen-size bed.

5 night halloween disney cruise

A curtain hangs in the middle of the room to separate the sleeping areas.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Below we have a couch that converts to a bed.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Our cabin steward would come by each evening and turn down the bed while we were at dinner.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Here is an alternate view of the room.

5 night halloween disney cruise

The artwork over the bed was a nice touch.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Ample storage space is available. Additionally, there’s a hairdryer tucked away in the vanity area.

5 night halloween disney cruise

A mini-refrigerator is tucked inside one of the drawers.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Most will appreciate the split bathroom layout. One door in the cabins leads to a single vanity and the tub with shower combination.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Shampoo, conditioner, and soap are readily available.

5 night halloween disney cruise

The other door in the cabin opens to the water closet, where you have a vanity and toilet. All deluxe staterooms will have a split bath. However, interior staterooms do not.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We found plenty of storage space with two built-in closets for hanging items. A third closet partition offered shelving space, an in-room safe, and a shoe rack.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Here is the view from inside our room.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Here is our verandah with two chairs and a small table.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Whoever sits toward the back side of the balcony will have a partially obstructed view. However, with so little time in the room, it was fine for us.

5 night halloween disney cruise

When I finished taking room photos, it was getting close to 4:00 p.m. So we had to head back upstairs for the Disney Wish Sail Away Party.

There’s no better way to kick off your cruise than with a party. Yes, it is crowded. But Disney brings out all the characters for the party and sets the tone for the rest of the cruise.

If you want to secure a good spot, I recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before the party. Also, make sure to have plenty of sunscreen applied!

5 night halloween disney cruise

(Night One) Dinner at Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure

Disney’s Wish offers three main restaurants for dinner that are included with the cruise fare. You’ll dine at each of these restaurants during the rotational dining process.

If you’re on a four-night cruise, you’ll dine at one of the locations a second time throughout your sailing. Ideally, you would plan to dine at one of the signature dining locations on the evening you had a repeat location. However, both of the two fine dining restaurants require reservations and are out-of-pocket.

Dinner on our first night was at Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure. This experience includes a performance while you dine.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Since we were a party of six, we were seated at a large table. You’ll receive a table assignment upon arrival and sit at the same table night each evening. Additionally, you’ll have the same wait staff each evening except for fine dining.

5 night halloween disney cruise

During our meal, characters from Frozen appeared on stage in the middle of the room.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Overall, Arendelle was a fun dining experience. Since we sat toward the back of the room, we didn’t have to be invested in the performance. But if we were closer, it would have had our full attention.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Since most of the dining rooms were fairly dark, I didn’t get the best photos. So here are a few of the items we had at this meal.

First, this is Anna’s Koldtbord consisting of smoked salmon, smoked trout, salmon gravlax, shrimp, and a dill honey mustard. Unfortunately, this was a little fishier than most of us would have liked.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Next the Troll Valley Baby Field Greens Salad contains brioche croutons, candied walnuts, and lingonberry dressing. It’s hard to go wrong with such a simple salad.

5 night halloween disney cruise

From the kettle portion of the menu, we have carrot soup. It was fine.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Here we have Elsa’s Royal Baked Scallops. Per the menu, this is a shrimp tarragon bisque with rainbow carrots, leeks, and a flaky pastry. This dish was well-received.

5 night halloween disney cruise

As far as entrees go, there are a variety of options. However, I learned early on that often it’s better to consider the “lighter options” portion of the menu.

While a steak with a baked potato is not necessarily lighter, these menu items were more quality. One evening, I only ordered a baked potato. And if you see fit, you are welcome to do the same.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Here is King Agnaar’s roasted pork tenderloin. This dish was much larger than it looked. Unfortunately, I didn’t try this dish, so I can’t comment on the taste.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Lastly, we all tried the Troll’s Family Rock chocolate bar for dessert. It was another darling presentation.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Disney Wish Itinerary Evening Entertainment (Night One)

After dinner, we headed to the Grand Hall to see the lighting of the pumpkin tree. This ceremony happens nightly at approximately 7:30 p.m. between dinner services. It is exclusive to the Halloween on the High Seas cruise.

5 night halloween disney cruise

As you can see from the photo below, the area fills up. It gets crowded because many of us have just finished dinner while the rest are awaiting late dinner service. Those waiting for dinner have already been to the evening’s entertainment offering.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After the tree-lighting ceremony, another special surprise was waiting behind the curtain.

5 night halloween disney cruise

The Sanderson Sisters (Disney characters version) joined the stage with a song and dance number. As you can imagine, the crowd went wild.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After the Sanderson Sisters exited, it was time for us to head to the Walt Disney Theatre for our evening entertainment.

One extra special entertainment offering is available each evening. This evening was Disney Seas the Adventure , a new musical spectacular that shares the story of friendship and inspires the audience to follow their dreams.

Unfortunately, Disney doesn’t allow photography or videos in these Broadway-style performances. But I can assure you that you will want to attend all three musicals offered during your sailing. They were all astounding.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After such a busy day, we parted ways, and I returned to the room. A towel sea turtle was waiting. Each evening, the cabin steward will turn your throw (or towels) into a fantastic creation while you’re out.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Disney Wish Day Two Itinerary (Day at Sea)

We were up and ready for breakfast reasonably early on day two, which is spent at sea. For breakfast, you have two choices.

First, there’s Marceline Market, where we had lunch the first day. Secondly, you can opt for a table service breakfast at 1923.

We decided to try a leisurely breakfast at 1923. There are two sides to the restaurant, Roy and Walt. For breakfast, it doesn’t matter so much which side you choose. But in the evening, you will be assigned to one side.

We were given a menu upon arrival and ordered several items. First, here is the fruit platter.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Then we had a meat and cheese selection.

5 night halloween disney cruise

I had oatmeal with turkey sausage.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Unfortunately, the sausage was almost too tough to eat.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Anna requested a custom plate, and our servers brought what she requested. Since these things are included in the cruise fare, no one cares what you order as long as it’s available.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After breakfast, we went our separate ways. I stopped at the Wishing Star Cafe to order a coffee with Mickey Mouse. Fun fact, the design is made with carrot juice.

However, you’ll want to know this is an extra cost item. Coffee and other complimentary beverages are available all day at the Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Since we had a day at sea, I decided to hit the gym. Usually, I would enjoy walking on one of the upper levels first thing in the morning.

Unfortunately, the Wish doesn’t have a dedicated walking trail like most ships. You can walk around some of the lower levels. But the walk requires going up and down staircases on each side and cutting through the ship’s interior on one end.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After a lap or two, I gave up and decided to hit the treadmill. Senses Fitness Center on the Disney Wish is impressive. The long layout of the space allows for a good amount of equipment and provides enough room for everyone to have their own space, even when it’s crowded.

5 night halloween disney cruise

These photos were taken in the evening when the areas were more open. While we didn’t schedule any services at Senses during our cruise, we did tour the spa one evening.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Senses is a tremendous spa with and indoor and outdoor area.

5 night halloween disney cruise

They have an ice lounge.

5 night halloween disney cruise

And there’s a Laconium.

5 night halloween disney cruise

A Laconium is a dry sweating room where the temperature is more comfortable than a sauna.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Overall, Senses Spa is a relaxing place worthy of a special appointment during your cruise.

5 night halloween disney cruise

As for the rest of our day at sea, our group ended up at the pool. Disney movies are played all day long on the big screen. You can easily see the screen from most chairs on the main deck.

Additionally, we took a few minutes this afternoon to ride the AquaMouse, Disney’s first attraction at sea. The AquaMouse is a waterslide attraction that extends out over the ocean. It’s a must-do for guests at least once during the cruise!

(Night Two) Dinner at 1923 and The Little Mermaid

Our first day at sea passed ever so quickly. Before we knew it, it was time for dinner and entertainment. This evening Kristen and her family had dining reservations at Palo, which left Anna and me returning to 1923 for rotational dining.

Here are a few of the items we tried. First, we have the Hyperion Four-Cheese Tricolor Tortelloni.

5 night halloween disney cruise

My appetizer was the Kingswell Duck Confit Pastilla.

5 night halloween disney cruise

From the kettle, I tried the Pulled Guinea Hen Chowder. Unfortunately, this tasted like watered down corn.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Anna ordered another appetizer, the Burrata Cheese with Prosciutto.

5 night halloween disney cruise

And I tried the Fennel Bartlett Pear and Tatsoi Salad. This was a tasty salad.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Anna ordered the Lobster Salad from The Lighter Side portion of the menu. It was a basic salad with a solid serving of lobster. I would order this again on a return cruise.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We also ordered the 1923 Peppered Filet Mignon to share, which our server recommended.

5 night halloween disney cruise

And I ordered the Tortiglioni Pasta, which sounded promising. But, unfortunately, this dish was bland, with hardly any flavor, except for the salty bites of pancetta.

5 night halloween disney cruise

For dessert, I decided to play it safe with the Hollywood Hills Chocolate Fudge Sundae. While this dessert is as basic as it gets, it was the best thing I had all evening.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Anna ordered the Atwater Fuji Apple Cheesecake, which she enjoyed.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Our server also brought out the restaurant’s signature dessert, the Burbank Blueberry-Lemon Bavarian Cream. This was a beautiful presentation, but we found it fairly generic regarding taste.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Also, this evening was Halloween, and our servers brought a fun chocolate spider to the table.

5 night halloween disney cruise

While we had a large amount of food for two people, we didn’t eat that much. Most of our plates were sent back and hardly touched. So, unfortunately, 1923 was our least favorite dining experience on the cruise.

After dinner, we decided to get seats early for A Treasure Retold–Disney The Little Mermaid . On the previous evening, we saw the play from the balcony. So I wanted to sit as close to the front as possible for this play to compare.

We had the best time and it felt like we were part of the play. While all the shows we saw on the Wish are worthy of five stars, this was my favorite.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After the play, we returned to our room and found a pumpkin, which was appropriate, considering it was Halloween! Also, I forgot to mention many of the guests were dressed in full costumes this evening.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Disney Wish Day Three Itinerary (Nassau, Bahamas Port of Call)

When we woke up the following day, we were docked at Nassau. Anna had arranged for us to take a travel agent tour of Sandals Royal Bahamian. Kristen and her family planned to visit Atlantis, one of the recommended excursions listed in the Disney Cruise Line app.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Anna and I were in the first group of guests off the ship. I took a photo of the sign below as we exited. It reminds you that all guests should be aboard the ship by 4:45 p.m. Also, you were required to have your Key to the World Card (room key), photo ID, and a form for minors where applicable.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We were told to leave our passports locked in our room safe at this port of call.

After disembarking the ship, we took a bus to Sandals Royal Bahamian. Our bus driver let us out across the street from the entrance.

5 night halloween disney cruise

While we were visiting for a tour, this resort sells day passes. So during our visit, we were treated to breakfast, lunch, cocktails, and free time at the beach and the pool.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We had a wonderful day enjoying the resort.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Nassau’s clear waters were stunning.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After lunch, we toured several of the rooms and suites at the resort. As travel agents, we take advantage of as many tours as possible. These experiences help us pinpoint the perfect destinations to recommend to our clients.

After our tour, the front desk secured a driver to take us back to the cruise terminal. It was time to get ready for a special evening at Enchante, the Disney Cruise Line’s newest fine dining experience.

(Night Three) Dinner at Enchante and Pirate’s Night

Kristen had managed to finagle us a table for six at Enchante this evening. So we were all excited to dine here after our day in the Bahamas.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We had a lovely evening with multiple courses, a cheese cart, and two desserts. Yes, two! Our dining experience lasted well over two hours.

Since this was such an elaborate meal, we have a separate article that details the experience.

Related: Enchante Review on the Disney Wish

5 night halloween disney cruise

After dinner, there was the option to attend a Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party, followed by fireworks at sea. While my theme song might go to the tune of “Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a Pirate’s Life for Me,” this pirate was tuckered out for the evening.

So I elected to go to the room and watch Disney movies on television until the ocean rocked me to sleep. It didn’t take long.

To my surprise, a pirate was waiting. This is a pirate, right?

5 night halloween disney cruise

Disney Wish Day Four Itinerary (Castaway Cay)

Castaway Cay was our best day. It was the most relaxing day and the perfect place to spend the entire last day of our cruise. These things do go by quickly, don’t they?

When I awoke this morning, our view was stunning. Before this trip, I had yet to visit the Bahamas. So while I’ve seen the clear waters of the Caribbean before, I couldn’t get over the clarity in the Bahamas.

5 night halloween disney cruise

There’s no wonder why so many travelers visit this destination regularly.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Since this was a leisurely day, I ended up at Marceline Market for breakfast. This time I dined outside with a view of Castaway Cay in the distance.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After breakfast, I gathered my beach attire and tennis shoes and headed to the island. To my surprise, several characters were greeting guests.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Pluto and Goofy were already having fun in the sun!

5 night halloween disney cruise

It was also cool to see the Wish in the distance. When we were at Nassau, the Wish was surrounded by other ships.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Castaway Cay has a tram that takes you to various points on the island. You’ll want to take it if you have small children or have a load to carry.

5 night halloween disney cruise

There are several stops along the way. I walked to Pelican Point and boarded the tram to Serenity Bay. Anna had gotten there early and found us a seat.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Serenity Bay, the adult-only beach, is about the farthest public destination on the island. Walking there from the ship would take about 30 minutes or so.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Here is the view from my chair. We spent the morning at this beach and then had lunch at Castaway Air BBQ. They had hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, potato chips, various salads, fresh fruit, and other items you might find at a barbecue.

5 night halloween disney cruise

After lunch, we spent a little more time at Serenity Bay.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Then we decided to rent bicycles to explore the island.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Bikes cost $13.00 per rental, and you’ll need your Key to the World card to rent one.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We rode bikes down the old airstrip. Trams use part of the strip to transport guests across the island.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Several bike paths are available. One way leads to a lookout tower.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We parked our bikes and climbed the tower.

5 night halloween disney cruise

It was shocking to see the Disney Wish look so tiny in the distance.

5 night halloween disney cruise

I cannot say enough good things about Castaway Cay. I would have been happy to have two days here instead of one.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We rode our bikes down a few more paths.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We passed a few private cabanas. A cabana rental might be ideal if you’re looking for a bit of privacy and extra shade.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Then we headed over to Pelican Point to see if we could find Kristen and her family.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We met up with the rest of our group and spent the afternoon together.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Anna was interested in doing the Castaway 5K, so she inquired about how it worked. She ended up getting us a medal for a photograph.

Since the 5K is informal, anyone can complete it when they want. But I recommend getting it out of the way first thing in the morning before the sun gets too high. A cast member will provide you with a medal when you finish.

5 night halloween disney cruise

While we were at Pelican Point, a fish swam by several times. I took a photo to show the clarity of the water.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Before we knew it, it was time to head back for our last evening aboard the ship.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Some days you don’t want to end. This was one of them.

5 night halloween disney cruise

We slowly made our way back to the Wish.

5 night halloween disney cruise

A few people were still participating in add-on experiences.

5 night halloween disney cruise

It was a lovely walk back to the ship.

5 night halloween disney cruise

A sign overhead reads, “See Ya Later, Mon.”

5 night halloween disney cruise

I also used this opportunity to get a close-up of Rapunzel, who resides at the ship’s stern.

5 night halloween disney cruise

(Night Four) Dinner at Worlds of Marvel and Aladdin

After boarding the ship, it was time to get ready for dinner at Worlds of Marvel. This was our final restaurant rotation and the one place we’d yet to eat.

For reference, had we not went to Enchante the night before, we would have been at 1923 again.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Worlds of Marvel is a large restaurant with screens near each table.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Additionally, every table has a Quantum Core device that children (or adults) can interact with from time to time during dinner. Often, throughout the meal, lights in the restaurant dim.

Ant Man and The Wasp appear on screen during the meal explaining some of the secrets behind Pym particles. However, the meal gets disrupted and you’re left to help fight the bad guys.

Thankfully, it all works out in the end. Also, there’s special appearance by Ant Man and The Wasp. They walk through the restaurant thanking every one for their help.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Since this was our last evening, we had one more Broadway-style show to attend after dinner. This evening’s entertainment was Aladdin, and it was spectacular.

After dinner, we visited a couple of lounges. Then, when we came back to the room, we were greeted by our last towel animal. It’s a puppy right?

5 night halloween disney cruise

Before we wrap things up, I wanted to share a few other photos from our Halloween on the High Seas Cruise on the Disney Wish.

5 night halloween disney cruise

The entire ship is gorgeous.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Every where you look, there are special details.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Cinderella’s glass slipper is on display in The Grand Hall.

5 night halloween disney cruise

This is also where you’ll find her statue.

5 night halloween disney cruise

This rose was on display at The Rose Lounge that sits between Enchante and Palo.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Luna is one of the more casual theaters on the Disney Wish. One evening they had a silent disco party in this space.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Here is the Bayou Lounge.

5 night halloween disney cruise

And, of course, we couldn’t forget the Star Wars : Hyperspace Lounge.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Lastly, Joyful Sweets is located on deck 11. All of the items here will cost extra.

5 night halloween disney cruise

However, I think most will agree, it’s worth a visit at least once during your sailing.

5 night halloween disney cruise

It all looked delicious.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Here are a few more treats.

5 night halloween disney cruise

Overall, we had an amazing time on this fun and family-friendly sailing. If you’re considering a Halloween on the High Seas Cruise or any other cruise, please reach out to us.

Disney Cruise Line in the Fall – Overview

Disney Dream at Port Canaveral | Magic in the Planning

Itineraries for the fall of 2024 have been announced and booking is currently open. Experience the return of Halloween on the High Seas sailings and Very Merrytime cruises. Additionally, indulge in the enchanting beauty of Lighthouse Point, Disney’s latest island destination in The Bahamas.

  • The Disney Magic will continue to homeport in Fort Lauderdale this fall. Beginning October 4, 2024, the Disney Magic will sail from Fort Lauderdale, San Juan, and Galveston.
  • The Disney Wonder will be finishing up its summer sailings to Alaska throughout September before returning to Australia by way of a one-way Hawaiian and South Pacific cruise. The Wonder will remain in Australia until February 2025.
  • The Disney Dream will be busy this season. The ship will spend half of September finishing its cruises in Europe before returning back to the U.S. At that point the Dream will return to Fort Lauderdale offering sailings to The Bahamas with itineraries featuring Lighthouse Point as well as 5-night Western Caribbean cruises.
  • The Disney Fantasy will spend the fall season sailing a mix of 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises. Additionally, this ship will offer 3- and 4-night Bahamian cruises mixed in with some dates going to both Castaway Cay and Lighthouse Point.
  • The Disney Wish will continue to offer 3- and 4-night cruises from Port Canaveral sailing to Nassau and Castaway Cay.

Halloween on the High Seas

Available on most itineraries departing in late September through Halloween, Halloween on the High Seas is Disney Cruise Line’s grand Halloween celebration. (Don’t forget to pack your costumes!) According to Disney, there will be “not-so-scary activities, eerie entertainment, and bewitching decor” throughout the duration of your cruise. Experiences will vary between ships, but here’s an idea of what you could expect:

  • Mickey’s Mouse-querade – This celebration on board will feature some of your favorite Disney Pals dressed in their best Halloween attire. Be prepared to dress up yourself to celebrate!
  • Themed Character Meet and Greets – Disney characters will be dressed in their Halloween costumes and will be ready for pictures! The Sanderson sisters from the movie Hocus Pocus will also be available to meet guests.
  • Halloween Activities – Disney Cruise Line has some amazing family-friendly activities on all of their cruises, and Halloween on the High Seas will be no exception. Expect Halloween-theme activities throughout your cruise.
  • Themed Dining – Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy Halloween-themed desserts, beverages, and more.

Very Merrytime

Featuring a 24-foot-tall Christmas tree, garlands, poinsettias, and twinkling lights… Disney Cruise Line’s Very Merrytime cruises are a uniquely festive celebration for all ages. These cruises are available from late November through Christmas. Experiences and activities will vary by ship, but here is some of what you can expect on these very special cruises:

  • Festively Dressed Disney Characters – Take holiday photos with your favorite Disney characters dressed in their festive attire.
  • Meet Santa Claus – It wouldn’t be a holiday cruise without Santa Claus on board! Guests will have an opportunity to not only meet him but also to let him know your holiday wishes.
  • Holiday Activities – Festive fun and holiday crafts will be available to guests on board.
  • Holiday Merchandise – Holiday-themed Disney Cruise Line items will be available for purchase.
  • Castaway Cay – Very Merrytime cruises that have a stop at Castaway Cay will have the opportunity to enjoy “snow” flurries, a Christmas tree, and more on the private island.

Any ideas on when Halloween on the High Seas info may become available? Our booking on the Hawaii cruise will only happen if we get to celebrate Halloween on the way back to the mainland! Speaking of Hawaii, will there be any 2016 dates added?

Lynette, DCL has yet to officially announce Halloween on the High Seas or the Very Merrytime sail dates. As for Hawaii in 2016, I would not hold my breath unless the Magic and Wonder swap deployments. The Wonder is set for re-imagination in the fall of 2016 .

Just an FYI: The Disney Wonder East Bound Panama Canal Cruise beginning Oct 23, 2015 will have Halloween on the High Seas this year.

Patti, Thanks for the update. We are not marking the sailings in our database until DCL makes an official announcement. I do not want people to spend their money and book under the assumption based on our website in the event DCL makes an abrupt change.

Hi Scott! Do you happen to know what the sailings are like between Halloween on the high seas and Very-Merrytime cruises? Do they still have decorations up or is it like a “normal” cruise as far as decor and activities?

If they are not labeled as Halloween or Very MerryTime the will not likely have the events. Decor is questionable.

We’re booked on the Disney Wish Halloween Cruise beginning October 31st. It is a four night cruise and, for whatever reason, no one seems to know exactly which nights the Halloween Costume Party and Pirate Party are. Everything I’ve seen is based upon peoples past experiences. Is there anyone from the cruise line who can provide a definitive answer? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am a novice to Disney Cruises.
