When I stumbled on the website for Little Palm Island in the Florida Keys, I thought I hit the jackpot with everything that I wanted for our anniversary trip. A private island, our own tropical villa, and the most romantic atmosphere I can imagine within the continental United States. And then I looked at the price and realized I actually needed to hit the jackpot, or the lottery, to make even a splurge trip here a reality.

But if you are ready to spend, it is no surprise that Little Palm Island was included in the top resorts in the United States (and the World) by the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.

2. Amangiri, Canyon Point, Utah

Ever since spying the Amangiri hotel in a food magazine, my husband has been angling for a romantic getaway to this remote portion of Utah’s red rock country. Covering 600 acres of the vast and majestic Colorado Plateau, the Amangiri offers a desert landscape of canyons, mesas, ridges, and gorges.

Guests can choose between the modernist suites of Amangiri and the tented pavilions of Camp Sarika. To gain an appreciation of the landscape, you can tour slot canyons with Navajo guides, or observe powerful storytelling sessions and ritual dances by the fire in Monument Valley Tribal Park. Adventurers can also go canyoning, climbing, hiking, horseback riding, or enjoy water sports on Lake Powell. My friend and luxury travel advisor Kristi Marcelle recommends the Post Ranch Inn for an adults-only romantic getaway near San Francisco. Located just 30 minutes from Mendocino on the Northern California Coast, the Inn at Newport Ranch is a local secret that luxury travel advisor Kristi Marcelle first clued me into and is perfect for a California romantic getaway .

For me, the perfect couples’ trip in the US is having the opportunity to walk with my beloved around the city hand-in-hand.

Not many American cities give you this opportunity, but Boston does which makes it an ideal American romantic getaway.

Best of all, Boston has a harbor! You can enjoy a dinner of freshly caught lobsters at sunset and then walk by the waterfront.

Does this sound good? Well, here are a few more ideas about how to spend time with your significant other in Boston.

Have a dinner at the Omni Parker House Restaurant where, as the legend suggests, Kennedy proposed to Jackie Bouvier and where the original Boston cream pie was created over a hundred years ago.

Couples who share a love of cinema can check out the filming locations of their favorite movies.

For example, did you know that you can sit on a bench in the Boston Public Garden where the characters of Matt Damon and Robin Williams sat in  Good Will Hunting ?

And while you are in the Public Garden, take a ride on a swan boat, one of Boston’s iconic attractions.

You can also stop by the bar where Will Hunting and his friends had a beer after work in the same movie.

Saranac Lake is a cute city nestled among 46 High Peaks, Upstate New York.

If you are planning a road trip to the Adirondacks National Park , you can reach it by driving for about two hours from the Big Apple.

The difference between NYC and the amazing forest is striking: it feels unreal that you’re still driving in New York State!

A massive clock tower welcomes visitors to this quaint little town, full of flowers and smiling faces.

Its main street is the perfect spot where you can walk hand in hand at night, with your significant other, crossing wooden bridges, and admiring historical buildings.

Saranac Lake, one of the most beautiful – and less touristy – towns in the Adirondacks, is absolutely breathtaking in the fall: foliage in this area lasts longer than in any other part of the States!

If your beloved one is a hiking addict, you definitely should try one of the trails starting from Saranac Lake.

The difficulty goes from easy to moderately hard and the forests are full of deer and squirrels!

The perfect spot to spend a romantic vacation in Saranac Lake is the Ampersand Bay Resort.

Wooden cabins on the shores of Lower Saranac Lake become romantic love nests where you can spend your evenings enjoying the jacuzzi or drinking hot cocoa next to the fireplace.

Because Saranac Lake is one of those lovely towns where everyone knows each other, and the food scene reminds you of the old times, you won’t have any problem at all in finding the best foodie spots.

One of my favorite breakfast places in town is Origin Coffee: they bake homemade muffins every morning!

The perfect restaurant for dinner is Blue Moon Café , owned by an Italian-American couple who loves to cook and chat with their guests.

Be prepared to be treated with the best food: from the large servings alone you can definitely tell their Italian heritage!

No, not  Portland, Oregon –the lighthouse-and-lobster-loving Portland, Maine!

If you and your partner are looking for a city vacation that also offers beautiful nature and a very relaxed, laid-back vibe, Portland is a fantastic choice.

As one of the most famous and electric cities in the world, there’s no doubt that an action-packed weekend in NYC (or even a full honeymoon trip–both are popular) makes for an excellent romantic trip in the US for couples of all kinds.

Whether you and your partner are museum hoppers, foodies, park lovers, viewpoint seekers, or all of the above, New York City has plenty to offer!

For something memorable, start the day by sharing one of the enormous pastry baskets when you have breakfast at the famous Balthazar in SoHo .

This beautiful restaurant with enormous antique mirrors, red leather banquettes, and wait staff in long white aprons will transport you to another century.

For something uniquely New York, wander hand in hand through Central Park, then in summer rent a boat at the Loeb Boathouse and row around the lake before enjoying a romantic lunch at the lakeside restaurant.

In winter, go ice-skating at Wollman’s Rink before having lunch at the nearby Palm Court restaurant at the famous Plaza Hotel.

Niagara Falls

Dial it back a few decades, and Niagara Falls was  the  place to take a honeymoon in North America–and while it’s less iconic on the honeymoon scene now, it’s still a wildly romantic place!

While this blog post does cover romantic destinations in the USA specifically, no discussion of couples vacations to Niagara Falls is complete without pointing out that while the portion of Niagara Falls located in the States is lovely, it’s well worth bringing your passport along and crossing the border into Canada as part of your trip!

However, with boat tours, hiking trails, Old Fort Niagara, and more available on the New York side, it’s safe to say that even a strictly American couples trip to Niagara Falls has plenty of romance to offer.

Don’t miss the Cave of the Winds Experience that will take you right up to Bridal Veils Falls while you’re there!

Prepare to get soaked–but that’s an excellent excuse to relax in a hot tub with a glass of wine, great views, and your partner afterward.

• Stateside – The Butler House: For classic romantic accommodation this is the one to go with in the American side of Niagara Falls. Built in 1910 is the historic craftsman style, this is a cute and cozy hotel for your trip. Location wise you also can’t beat this, just 10 minutes walk from the American Falls and a mile from the International Rainbow Bridge to Canada.
• Canada – Hilton Fallsview: While not the greatest Hilton experience you might expect, but definitely worth it for the views. Expect the usual Hilton features of a good quality hotel but look over the as-close-as-you-could-get views of Niagara Falls.

Beautiful beaches, a unique culture that’s all its own, fabulous architecture, and–of course–plenty of sunshine: you’ll find all of this and far more by heading all the way south to Miami for your couples’ weekend getaway!

When it comes to beaches, South Beach is often considered one of the best urban beaches on the planet, and we’d have to agree.

Don’t limit yourself just to the beach, though!

Be sure to explore Miami Beach’s impressive Art Deco architecture, eat your way through Little Havana, admire street art in Wynwood, and check out the views from Biscayne Bay.

For a unique perspective on the city, consider  taking a boat cruise –we were very impressed with how much we enjoyed ours!

For couples who hope to experience some unique nature in south Florida during their trip, consider also planning on a day trip to nearby Everglades National Park.

Or, if you have a few more days (say, an  extra  long weekend trip), you can road trip all the way to Key West, the southernmost point of the USA (more on that option below!).

The ever-unique and dynamic city of New Orleans, where music spills out from every corner and the scent of food lingers in the air 24 hours a day, is absolutely one of the most romantic cities in the USA.

NOLA has such unique architecture that walking through the streets and seeing the French and Spanish influence that certain parts of the French Quarter can feel like you’re in a European city.

Due to that European influence and the Creole culture that developed, the food in New Orleans is one of a kind.

Unsurprisingly, New Orleans is home to one of the top food scenes in the country.

The many public fountains and squares give the city a charming feel and people-watching can be quite interesting.

Since New Orleans is located at the mouth of the Mississippi River, you can enjoy a peaceful jazz cruise on the river as part of your trip!

At night, the city comes alive with street performers and sidewalk bars to enjoy a cocktail or two. Listening to a jazz band is a great idea while in New Orleans.

There is no shortage of music anywhere you go as restaurants are often playing some type of classic New Orleans jazz.

Overall, New Orleans is a fantastic city to enjoy with a loved one and stroll through the streets, eating, drinking, and enjoying its’ unique charm.

While Nashville is a popular option for friends’ trips and girls’ getaways because of the fun nightlife, a Nashville weekend getaway  is also a solid choice for US couples looking for a unique romantic trip.

Music-loving couples will enjoy the abundance of music-themed museums as well as nightlife options.

Stroll hand-in-hand through the Country Music Hall of Fame or visit the Johnny Cash Museum for a unique insight into the artistic genius who gave the world “Walk the Line” and “Ring of Fire.”

While the honky-tonks on Broadway are always a raucous good time, couples would be better suited with a romantic visit to the Grand Ole Opry, a thrice-weekly live concert and radio show.

It’s the longest-running radio broadcast in United States history and being part of it is great fun–be sure to take the tour backstage!

Other romantic things for couples to do include strolling the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, which has beautiful views over downtown Nashville.

Couples will also love strolling around Centennial Park with its replica of the Parthenon.

Patient Instagram husbands will endure being dragged to the Gulch, a vibrant district with tons of colorful walls and street art including the famous “Nashville wings.”

Finally, couples can stuff their face with delicious Nashville BBQ – two of my favorite spots are Acme Feed & Seed and Martin’s BBQ.

Whatever you do, though, be careful with Nashville’s famous hot chicken: the resulting stomachaches from trying chicken too far out of your comfort zone are far from romantic!

• Hutton Hotel: Book into this stylish hotel for your romantic trip, relax on the hotel balcony, or stroll 10 minutes to Music Row.
• Virgin Hotels: Part of the Virgin Group and with all the luxury details you might expect, with plenty of red and white details. Many rooms have balconies with views of the city.

Without a doubt, Savannah is one of our favorite romantic getaways in the USA.

Dripping Spanish moss, Savannah’s 22 beautiful town squares, stunning antebellum architecture, and an epic food scene all contribute to making Savannah one of the most romantic cities in the USA.

During a weekend in Savannah with your beloved, be sure to stroll through the lovely Forsyth Park and down Jones Street (often called the most beautiful street in the USA!).

At night, give yourselves an excuse to hold each other tight on a ghost tour!

Art lovers can consider a visit to the Telfair Museum of Art or shopSCAD, the store run by the students of the well-known Savannah College of Art and Design, or browse the boutiques along Broughton Street.

Of course, no romantic trip to Savannah could be complete without at least one fantastic southern meal– Savannah’s restaurants are legendary in the south.

The Olde Pink House, The Grey, and Elizabeth of 37th are all popular romantic choices for a bit of a splurge, and Alligator Soul is a great option for more adventurous eaters.

For dessert, consider stopping by the famous Leopold’s Ice Cream, which has been a beloved Savannah tradition for nearly 100 years!

If ice cream isn’t your thing, consider a visit to one of Savannah’s charming coffee shops or to City Market instead–among other treats, City Market features candy stores selling pralines, one of the most well-known desserts in Savannah.

Few other places in the country rival Key West for popular romantic getaways in the USA.

Key West is the land of “Southernmost”: Southernmost Highway, Southernmost Brewery, Southernmost Tattoos.

Understandable, as this is the southmost point in the continental United States that you can reach without ever leaving your car!

Key West is located just 90 miles from Havana, Cuba and, despite the touristy reputation, it can be an exotic and romantic destination for couples.

The island has no shortage of exciting history and tourist attractions.

Some of the more famous things to do in Key West include the Southernmost Point Buoy and Historic Marker, Duval Street, Ernest Hemingway House and Museum, The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, and the Key West Lighthouse.

Charleston, South Carolina is one of the most romantic getaways in the USA.

The city is filled with southern charm, great food, colorful historic houses, gardens, parks, and much more, all perfect for exploring with your partner.

As one of the oldest cities in the south, Charleston is packed full of history–though much of it is unsurprisingly quite dark.

Taking a historic walking tour with your significant other is an absolute must.

Of course, Charleston’s location near the beach is also a big draw for couples looking for romance: Sullivan’s Island, Folly Beach, and the Isle of Palms are all at your fingertips when visiting Charleston.

In the end, Charleston is a fun, charming city and is the perfect weekend getaway with your significant other.

Of all of the romantic USA weekend trips covered here, Asheville is one of the best options for a couple divided on whether to visit a city or the great outdoors.

Home to an epic craft beer scene, the incredible Biltmore Estate , plenty of street art, and delicious food options, there’s no doubt that Asheville appeals to the city lovers among us.

Its location right next door to plenty of wonderful hikes in the Pisgah National Forest and Great Smoky Mountain National Park, however, makes it a fabulous US weekend destination for couples who are outdoor enthusiasts, as well.

No matter what your interests are, try to make time during your trip to Asheville to drive a small piece of the Blue Ridge Parkway–especially if you’re visiting in the fall and can enjoy the changing colors.

Often considered one of the most beautiful road trips in the United States, it’s a romantic destination not to be missed.

For a beautiful stop on the Blue Ridge Parkway close to Asheville, hike the short trail to Craggy Pinnacle for sweeping 360-degree views of the mountains and an opportunity for some incredible couples photos.

North Carolina Coast

Whether you’re visiting classic Outer Banks beach towns like Duck, Kitty Hawk, and Nags Head, heading a bit further south to the Crystal Coast to visit places like Beaufort and Atlantic Beach , or even heading all the way south to Wilmington, there’s no doubt that the North Carolina Coast offers an incredible chance for romance.

Lined with small beach towns, historic lighthouses, excellent seafood, and even unique attractions like wild horses that live on deserted barrier islands, the North Carolina Coast is an unbeatable destination for a southern USA romantic getaway.

… And you can enjoy all that the NC coast has to offer without the prices of popular places further south in Florida or further north in New England.

While you’re there, consider driving at least part of the stunning Outer Banks Scenic Byway, climbing to the top of a lighthouse or two for an incredible view (we’re partial to Cape Lookout ourselves), enjoying the sunset from a boat, and spending plenty of time with your toes in the sand.

If you start your trip to the North Carolina Coast in Raleigh, you may be able to add other cool stops in Eastern NC as you make your way to the beach!

Consider visiting New Bern for its historic downtown, or Kinston to eat at Vivian Howard’s celebrated Chef and the Farmer restaurant (be sure to make reservations well in advance!) before making your way to the coast.

• Outer Banks Beach Club: Better book fast because this hotel in Kill Devil Hills sells out fast! The resort is set up as residence style apartments for a homey summer vacation with access to indoor and outdoor pools and views of the ocean.
• Wild Horse Inn: Situated in Corolla this pretty Inn provides comfortable accommodation with a garden and private parking. It is also walking distance to beaches.

Carmel-by-the-Sea

If you are looking for a romantic getaway in California , consider a weekend in Carmel-by-the-Sea.

A charming little village in the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel-by-the-Sea offers a variety of activities in a really adorable setting.

Start your weekend with a romantic glass of wine and some fruit and cheese on the beautiful Carmel Beach, where you can sit on the sand and watch the sunset over the water.

Then, enjoy a romantic dinner at one of many world-class restaurants in the village before retiring to your room at one of the cute inns or bed-and-breakfasts in the village.

Carmel-by-the-Sea does not allow big chain hotels, so it’s dotted with really cozy places to stay, complete with window boxes stuffed with flowers.

The next morning, enjoy a late breakfast, followed by a walk around the one square mile of Carmel Village.

You will see wonderful art galleries, one-of-a-kind boutique stores, and lots of fun food and wine places.

With its secret passageways, lovely courtyards, and great Spanish architecture, the village is perfect for strolling arm-in-arm. Then do a lazy laid-back brunch–a Carmel-by-the-Sea must!

In the afternoon, drive out to Point Lobos State Reserve, a stunning oceanside park a scant few minutes from the village.

Walk an oceanside trail, with the sea breeze ruffling your hair, and admire the wonderful views of the Pacific Ocean.

In the spring and summer, you’ll see tons of wildflowers. There are always seabirds to watch.

On your way back, step into the Carmel Mission, one of the most beautiful missions built by the Spanish missionaries. Back in the village, enjoy some wine tasting before dinner.

On your final morning in Carmel-by-the-Sea, take a walk around the village to look for the fairytale cottages scattered about.

They are charming, historic, and incredibly fun to find.

Or, consider booking a pampering treatment at the luxurious spa at the Bernardus Lodge in nearby Carmel Valley, or driving out to Big Sur and back on the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway.

Located just 30 minutes from Salt Lake City, Park City, Utah, is an incredibly romantic destination in the USA. 

The area is best known for its mountain resorts with amazing slopes for skiing, snowboarding, and all types of winter activities.

Depending on your expectations for romance, Park City has it all.

You can experience adventures during the day, creating memories to look back on for years to come by going on a snowmobile ride or taking a real bobsled ride at the Olympic Park. 

After your adrenaline has been pumping, unwind and fill yourself back up at one of the many delicious restaurants. 

The crisp winter air provides for a wonderfully romantic time together. You can enjoy some time resting your sore muscles in a hot tub or cuddling together around a fireplace.

Another great thing to do is to try out one of the spas in the area after a day of skiing to avoid tense muscles and to enjoy your time together.

Surrounded by snow-covered mountains, you don’t really have to try hard to create a romantic atmosphere.

Just find a place to sit around a fire and look around at the beautiful scenery , and you already have all the makings of a romantic escape with your beloved.

On the chance that you make your way to Park City when it is not wintertime, there is still plenty to do.

You can find a lake to go stand-up paddle boarding or fishing, go ziplining, enjoy a breathtaking hot air balloon ride or go on one of the alpine slides and coasters.

• Park City Peaks: With Wasatch Mountains views and just 5 minutes drive to Park City Mountain this is a great location for a romantic trip
• The Chateaux Deer Valley: Another amazing location is this hotel which is adjacent to Deer Valley Ski Resort. The hotel is lodge-style with lots of fireplaces to cozy up nearby.

Known as the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, the charming small town of  Estes Park  makes for an incredible couples’ vacation in the USA.

Also, Fremont, not Freemont. I lived in Seattle and environs for 52 years and moved to Idaho to retire and be closer than 800 miles away to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. I am surprised you didn’t also mention Jackson, Wyoming as a place to get away to! It’s turned into quite the foodie place, too. It’s also called “Jackson Hole” by many people.

If we covered everywhere romantic in one post, we’d have a post hundreds of destinations long! We do love Jackson Hole, though–it’s listed on our USA honeymoon ideas post. 🙂

Best places to visit in march 2024.

Traveling in spring certainly has its perks. If you can brave cooler temperatures and the occasional rain shower, you'll likely be rewarded with fewer crowds and lower travel rates in many popular destinations, ranging from palm-fringed beaches to cities big and small. U.S. News considered factors like affordability, things to do, must-visit attractions, overall appeal and more to determine the best places to visit in March. Visiting during Barcelona's shoulder season has its perks, including smaller crowds and lower rates on airfare and accommodations. Plus, average temperatures hover near the low 60s in March, so you won't overheat while exploring must-see sights such as Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter) and Park Güell, a whimsical park designed by Antoni Gaudí. What's more, you can explore other popular Gaudí landmarks like Casa Batlló and Basílica de la Sagrada Família without hordes of tourists blocking your view. When you've worked up an appetite, venture to the quiet Gràcia neighborhood to sample authentic Catalan cuisine on a food tour.

Straddling the border of Argentina and Brazil, Iguazu Falls is one of the largest waterfall systems in the world. While the natural beauty of the falls will take your breath away year-round, travelers who plan a trip in March enjoy the added bonus of fewer crowds, pleasant temperatures and cheaper accommodations. Remember to set aside time in your schedule for Iguazu's most dramatic feature, Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat), a semicircular chasm fed by 14 of Iguazu's waterfalls.

Although March falls within Maui's peak season, its excellent weather (think: average daytime temps in the high 70s and low 80s) and prime conditions for water sports and wildlife viewing make it a superb time to visit. Experienced surfers can head to popular surf spots like Ho'okipa Beach and Pe'ahi (dubbed "Jaws") to hang ten, while beginners stick to the waves at Kaanapali Beach. Meanwhile, animal lovers can look for migrating humpback whales during a whale watching cruise. To save some coin, book your Maui hotel and airfare at least a few months in advance.

These five towns on the Italian Riviera are beautiful any time of year, but there are a few benefits to visiting in March. The cooler weather (think: average temperatures sit in the high 50s) makes it a perfect time to hike Cinque Terre's famous trails, although rain may cause some of the trails to close at times. Additionally, many local shops reopen after closing for winter. Since spring is one of Cinque Terre's shoulder seasons, you'll find fewer tourists this time of year, allowing you to comfortably explore the area on foot or by boat.

March marks the end of Cape Town, South Africa's busy summer season, when temperatures begin to drop and crowds thin out. Tourists who plan a March vacation will be rewarded with cheaper rates and pleasant temps in the mid-70s, perfect for exploring top sights like Table Mountain and Camps Bay Beach. Plus, fall kicks off Cape Town's wine harvest, which makes it a great time to explore the world-renowned Constantia Valley wine region . Many festivals and events are also held throughout the month, including the Cape Town Carnival.

Situated between two of Utah 's five main national parks, Moab is an outdoor adventure hub known for its awe-inspiring red rock formations. Travelers can admire them during visits to Arches National Park (where the world's densest concentration of natural sandstone arches resides) and Canyonlands National Park (which is the largest national park in the state). Travelers who time their trip for the beginning of the month will have the best chance of avoiding crowds while still enjoying comfortable weather in the 50s and 60s. Other must-do March activities include hiking, rock climbing, off-roading and camping.

Whether you're enjoying a show at the Vancouver International Dance Festival or admiring cherry blossoms in Queen Elizabeth Park, there are plenty of reasons to visit Vancouver in March. Spend your time on a walking or biking tour of popular neighborhoods like Granville Island and Yaletown, then ride the Skyride gondola to the top of Grouse Mountain for breathtaking views of the city. March temperatures in this Canadian vacation destination are mild in the low 50s, and although you'll likely experience some rainfall, this is a great time to score big on hotel deals.

The reasons for traveling to this German city in March are multifold. Although you'll have to deal with some chilly weather (average temperatures sit in the high 40s), visiting during this shoulder season means fewer crowds and lower prices. March also brings the city's annual Starkbierfest event, a traditional Bavarian beer festival, and St. Patrick's Day, one of the largest cultural events in Munich. When you're not engaging in the festivities, spend the rest of your time sightseeing at famous attractions like St. Peter's Church and the Munich Residenz, the largest city palace in Germany.

While you can spot wildlife in the Galápagos year-round, March is nesting season for animals like green sea turtles, iguanas and red-footed boobies. Keep an eye out near the water, too, as sea lions are known to hang on the beaches. And though March falls within the wet season (you'll want to bring an umbrella), there should still be ample warm, sunny days to enjoy the beach, particularly toward the end of the month.

Boasting 150-plus miles of hiking trails, Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas appeals to travelers with an affinity for the outdoors. Observe wildlife (including more than 450 species of birds), kayak along the Rio Grande or explore Big Bend while horseback riding. Keep in mind that spring is the park's busiest season, so you won't be the only one admiring the spectacular mountain views. Plan accordingly by allotting extra time for waiting in lines and booking your trip accommodations far in advance.  

One of Cozumel, Mexico's biggest draws is its abundance of aquatic activities. The country's largest Caribbean island is one of the best places to scuba dive thanks to its clear water and proximity to the world's second-largest barrier reef. To get in the water, head to Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park to dive, snorkel or swim with dolphins. If you'd rather stay dry, sign up for a glass-bottom boat tour or lounge on one of the island's white sand beaches. Because March is outside the Atlantic hurricane season, you'll enjoy plenty of warm, dry weather.

While the northern half of the world is entering spring, Southern Hemisphere destinations like Sydney are just beginning their fall season. This means travelers will encounter pleasant weather in March (average temperatures hover in the high 70s) that is perfect for taking in some of Sydney's most iconic landmarks, such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. Other must-do activities include surfing and sunbathing at Bondi Beach and strolling through the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, Australia's oldest botanical garden.

Visit Punta Mita, Mexico, in March if you want to relax while on vacation. This former fishing village in western Mexico's Riviera Nayarit area is now renowned for its opulent resorts, world-class golf courses and beautiful white sand beaches. Punta Mita's warm weather and clear blue water also make it an excellent place to go scuba diving, surfing and Jet Skiing. What's more, March is one of several months when humpback whales migrate through the region, so you'll want to save time for a whale watching excursion.

March falls within this Laotian city's dry season, meaning you can participate in top outdoor activities like climbing Mount Phousi and taking a boat tour to the Pak Ou Caves without the threat of rain. Plus, the warm weather in the 80s and 90s makes cooling off in the turquoise waters of Kuang Si Falls even more enjoyable. No trip to Luang Prabang would be complete without exploring some of the city's ancient Buddhist temples – Wat Xieng Thong and Wat Wisunarat are two can't-miss sites.  

Although March ushers in some of Jamaica's lowest temps, this time of year is by no means cold. Daytime highs comfortably sit in the mid-80s in March, making Jamaica an appealing destination to spring breakers and those in search of a warm-weather holiday. Vacationers can climb to the top of Dunn's River Falls or hike through Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park. Those looking for a more relaxing getaway can lounge on a variety of white sand beaches or unwind at one of the island's luxurious all-inclusive resorts .

Top 20 Awesome Places to Visit in March in USA

Early spring is when you can enjoy iconic landscapes in manageable temperatures for less money than peak seasons, so I think it’s a win-win! From traveling around during March, here are my favourite spots to explore…

1. Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve

For a truly awe-inspiring, I’d recommend taking the winding dirt road through Antelope Valley in Southern California where blankets of poppies carpet the ground in flames of red and orange. Here, 8 miles of foot trails weave through the captivating blooms. 

Of course, I can’t completely second guess Mother Nature and weather conditions greatly influence the poppy crop. Still, they roughly bloom for 10 weeks between late February and early May and peak for around three weeks between late March and early April.

In a good year, this is a breathtaking and unforgettable sight. Still, I would suggest keeping an eye out on the Antelope Valley Nature Preserve website as your visit approaches for up-to-date information on the flowers.

2. New Orleans, Louisiana

If, like me, you are a lover of literature, arts, and culture but not a fan of scorching heat and crowds, visit New Orleans this month. The city embraces the transition into spring with the big Mardi Gras celebrations beginning to wind down and many wonderful festivals emerging to replace them.

The Tennessee Williams Literary Festival brings together budding writers and established playwrights for a program of masterclasses and performances of original works, culminating with the popular ‘Stella’ shouting competition in The French Quarter.

The LGBTQIA community celebrates its literary heritage in the popular Saints and Sinners festival, which also takes place during this month. Wednesday at the Square and Buku Festivals curate amazing immersive musical talents, and plenty is going on for foodies too.

New Orleans is a vibrant city that embodies the spirit of springtime, so it is no surprise that this is the perfect time to enjoy it! I would also recommend staying in one of the many interesting boutique hotels , making your stay even more special.

3. Golden Isles, Georgia

The Golden Isles are four beautiful barrier islands between Savannah, Georgia, and Jacksonville, Florida. The islands rise out of a vast area of marshlands, giving the appearance of one continuous stretch.

The Isles are a melting pot of cultures, and this is what I love about it! During this month,  gentle breezes and spring sunshine make it the perfect time to get out and explore nature before it becomes too hot and crowded.

I recommend strolling through shady woodland, picnicking on sandy beaches, and watching the sun sink over the horizon – bliss! 

Go nature spotting for rare Leatherback turtles, a plethora of birds, and leaping dolphins, or relax and enjoy some boutique shopping in Pier Village or fine dining in the quaint village of Redfern.

For original Victorian architecture and speciality shopping and dining, I suggest visiting historic downtown Brunswick, where brownstone townhouses and bright-colored awnings lend an old-fashioned vintage feel.

4. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

It’s not always sunny in Philadelphia, but there’s a good chance it will be bright and fresh this month. I personally think this is the perfect time to visit the city, temperatures average around 12 degrees in the day so take a jacket you’ll be fine! 

In my opinion, one of the loveliest sights this time of year is the swathes of cherry blossoms in West Fairmount Park. Here, y ou can enjoy a picnic and admire the manicured lawns, or stroll around the tranquil Japanese House and whimsical ponds and waterfalls, all under a fragrant canopy of blossom trees.

The springtime is also a great time to enjoy a craft beer in the early spring sunshine so I would highly recommend visiting one of the city’s many breweries and taking in some of the lovely historical streets in neighborhoods like Spring Gardens.

It’s also a great time to enjoy some local artists’ work in progress at Cherry Street Pier and hang out with arty types along the wonderful waterfront.

Drive-in movies are also a big thing in Philly; the milder temperatures mean lots of opportunities to see old and new cool films in this classic American way!

5. Fairbanks, Alaska

Fairbanks is a truly vibrant river city in the very North of Alaska. It serves as the perfect base camp for the wilderness of Denali National Park…6 million acres of alpine forests, snow-capped mountains, and untouched nature.

The icy temperatures mean the crowds tend to come here in the summer, but in spring, you can see the city and surroundings at their finest, under the breathtaking colors of The Northern Lights! 

It is also the season of midnight sun, endless sunsets and sunrises, and the World Ice Art Competition. I would also recommend enjoying the ice museum, hot springs, hot coffee, and many unique adventure sports!

I also suggest trying your hand at Ice Skating, Cross Country Skiing, or safely spotting wildlife in the wilderness. If you are lucky, you might see Grizzly Bears, Black Bears, Wolves, Moose and Caribou, and maybe even a golden eagle!

• Taking an Aurora tour or overnight experience to catch the magical dancing northern lights.
• Warming up at the Chena Hot Springs in the outdoor pool surrounded by the fresh, crisp snow.
• Checking out the sculptures created by artists from all over the world at the World Ice Art Competition.

6. Texas Hill Country

The Hill Country stretches splendidly between San Antonio and Austin, encompassing beautiful landscapes, historic towns and villages, natural wonders, and amazing wineries.

During this month the  temperatures are pleasant and the wildflowers are in full bloom, especially the Texas Bluebonnets, lupin-like and a stunning shade of electric blue they are the official state flower.

Nestled amongst meadows of wildflowers and gentle hills are several stunning historical towns of German heritage. There are many to choose from, depending on your preferences. I personally think Boerne is a great town with a wonderful cavern at its center and lots of quaint boutique shops and cafes lining its Main Street.

The very German city of Fredericksburg oozes Bavarian charm. Kerrville is one of the oldest settlements in Texas and is perfect for history buffs. Finally, I suggest not missing Lake McQueene, which has waters that are perfect for swimming. You don’t want to miss it!

The Texans love spring, so as you travel through Hill Country, expect plenty of cook-offs, festivals, and cultural events to keep you entertained!

• Exploring the Medina River by kayaking through the tall and winding bald cypress trees.
• Tasting some of Texas’s best and award-winning spirits at a local distillery.
• Driving through the Willow City Loop, which comes alive with color from the beautiful flowers.

7. Nantucket and Martha’s Vinyard, Massachusetts

I would highly recommend avoiding the hordes of deep-pocketed tourists and visiting this iconic destination in the springtime! This month is a wonderful time to visit Cape Cod, as it is when the majestic humpback whales reside in the blue waters around the islands.

Averaging between 40 and 50 feet long, seeing these amazing creatures propel themselves out of the water is something you’ll never forget! 

It won’t be hot, but that’s the trade-off of having the place virtually for yourself! Aside from the whales, I recommend just kicking back and enjoying the idyllic beaches, quaint fishing villages, sun-bleached harbor towns, and historic lighthouses for a much more reasonable price than during peak season.

You can also check out some of the legendary filming locations for Jaws on Martha’s Vinyard and get a glimpse of some of the crazy multi-million dollar summer estates of the rich and famous, all without battling through the crowds!

• Wrapping up for a stroll along the local beach to escape the hustle and bustle of the town.
• Discovering Polly Hill Arboretum, an Island landmark filled with shrubs, trees, and flowers.
• Going on a guided tour to see historic sites such as Oldest House, The Old Mill, and Greater Light.

8. Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas

The park is now a beautiful expanse of unique landscapes carved out by Cedar Creek and packed with unusual bluffs and canyons. It also has an impressive 95-ft waterfall that tumbles from the 100-acre Lake Bailey, created by Damming the Creek.

This month’s weather is temperate, the trees bloom, and the sunsets are spectacular. Temperatures hover around 17 degrees this time of year.

There are several rustic cabins and the central Mather Lodge, all built in the 1930s and available for accommodation, as well as designated camping and glamping, so I recommend choosing one for a truly cozy vacation!

Many gorgeous trails traverse the park and there is boating and Kayaking on Bailey Lake as well as two outdoor pools. I honestly think it’s the perfect accessible spring escape for outdoors lovers who find bigger parks daunting.

• Visiting the indoor Petit Jean Farmers Market and sampling some delicious local produce.
• Capturing an Insta-worthy shot underneath the Natural Bridge along Seven Hollows Trail created from a rock formation.
• Hiking down to the base of Cedar Falls to admire one of the biggest waterfalls in the state.

9. The Tidal Basin, Washington D.C.

Each Spring, Washington D.C. ‘s tidal basin is transformed by acres of pink and white cherry blossoms, and I highly recommend a visit around this time!

Thousands of tourists are drawn to the nation’s capital yearly to witness the spectacle! Usually, the tree’s peak bloom is late March through early April.

To avoid heavy crowds and maximize beautiful photo opportunities, I recommend visiting the Tidal Basin early in the morning and catching the sun rising over D.C.’s iconic marbled monuments under blankets of fragrant petals! 

Then, I suggest using the rest of the day to explore the amazing city full of green spaces, awe-inspiring architecture, and wonderful museums and sculpture gardens. If you have limited time, I recommend an open-top bus that will take you around all the famous presidential monuments and Arlington Cemetary.

I would recommend visiting some historic districts such as Georgetown, a famous university with atmospheric steps used in The Exorcist and DuPont Circle for eclectic nightlife, exciting dining, and wonderful art in The Phillips Collection.

• Enjoying a bike ride around the stunning loop and array of national monuments.
• Renting a paddleboat and enjoying some time spent relaxing on the calm water.
• Spending the day at the National Cherry Blossom Festival and seeing live entertainment amongst the flowers.

10. Kauai, Hawaii

A top vacation spot, I personally think this is the perfect time to enjoy Kauai’s lush vegetation and beautiful beaches without the summer crowds. Although Kauai is the wettest of the Hawaiian islands and March is still considered the rainy season, the rain typically comes in short bursts and the sun quickly returns.

If you aim for the end of the month you will likely experience little rain, warm temperatures, and lower prices as peak season begins in April. Although Kauai is small it is not called’ The Garden Island’ for nothing and its abundance of colorful blooms will not fail to delight!

Expect palm-fringed beaches, crystal clear waters, unique multi-colored canyons, rare wildlife, and plunging waterfalls…a little slice of paradise infused with the famed ‘Aloha’ spirit!

• Seeing the island from a fabulous helicopter tour overlooking the beach landscape.
• Kayaking around Hanalei Bay, I also enjoyed a delicious meal while watching the sunset.
• Flying through through the native forests on a zipline which was a very adrenaline-pumping experience!

11. Fontainebleau State Park, Louisiana

Treat yourself to a stay in an iconic wooden cabin on stilts in this beautiful State Park that stretches for 2,800 acres along the crystal shores of Lake Pontchartrain.

Historically a sugar plantation, Fontainebleau was named after the forest near Paris, the place of choice for centuries of French kings in their leisure time.

Of course, we commoners can enjoy the many peaceful pastimes on offer in the Louisiana version, it’s a popular spot for all things aquatic; boating, canoeing, swimming, and personally I would highly recommend just sunbathing on the unspoiled sandy beaches.

Visitors can stroll beneath the centuries-old oak trees and native cypresses or walk along the wooden pier to admire the lake’s crystal waters.

During this month,  the temperature is warm and the humidity fairly low, which makes it the perfect time to explore the 27 miles of hiking and biking trails along the Tammany Chase, which follows the route of the old railroad tracks.

I suggest bringing a picnic for a beautiful, tranquil day in idyllic surroundings, unbelievably less than an hour away from New Orleans!

• Spending a day at the beach and swimming and sunbathing.
• Exploring the nature trails.

12. Providence Canyon, Georgia

Georgia gets very hot in peak summer season and as it is not a massive park it can also get very crowded. For easier hiking temperatures and uncluttered photographs of the beautiful ‘Little Grand Canyon’ I think this month is the perfect month for a visit.

The park’s rock faces are especially spectacular due to the 143 varied shades that range from orange and red hues to pure white; catching the sun sinking behind them is a really special sight.

Visitors can enjoy 10 miles of trails that circumnavigate the canyon rim and take in some of the park’s other wonders, such as the cascading Providence waterfalls and the strange shells of old 1950s automobiles that are relics of another era.

For perfect clear night skies, I would highly recommend camping out in one of the areas around the canyons and witnessing the wonder of the stars without any light pollution to obscure them!

• Experiencing the picturesque views whilst enjoying a picnic lunch at one of the viewpoints.
• Visiting Dick’s Creek Falls, a stunning spot located just outside the park.
• Hiking along the Canyon Loop Trail and seeing the incredible nine canyons along the 2.5-mile path with scenic landscapes.

13. Atlanta, Georgia

Summer temperatures in Atlanta are pretty intense, so I personally think early spring is the perfect time to take advantage of this southern gem. As the Southeast’s cultural hub Atlanta is positively teeming with creativity, arts, and mind-blowing history, it’s also a foodie heaven!

Both buildings are now part of The Martin Luther King JR National Historical Park , and I think it’s a great place to stroll in springtime! Another beautiful place to admire this month in bloom is The Atlanta Botanical Gardens, whose landscaped grounds are budding with color in early spring.

The foodie scene in Atlanta reflects this passion and fusion of cultures and famous southern hospitality; you can find delicious and innovative food at every turn. I suggest leaving space for some Georgia Bourbon Pecan Pie from Pie Shop Downtown!

• Having fun at Atlanta Fair with carnival games, exciting rides, and delicious food.
• Going on a themed dining experience with robot waiters and crafty cocktails!
• Admiring the vibrant street art around the city where talented artists have created incredible murals.

14. Saguaro National Park, Arizona

Saguaro National Park is named for the iconic giant cactuses known to grow up to 78ft tall, although the average height is about 40ft.  Walking amidst these giants, especially as the sun sinks below the horizon, is an eerie and wonderful experience. For a great view of the Saguaro Forest, I suggest hiking up to the Valley View Overlook, which offers an amazing panoramic view of the Cacti.

If you want to get in amongst them, I would also recommend the Mica View Loop, which takes you right through the middle of these amazing plants! 

This month, you have the bonus of all the beautiful wildflowers in bloom, splashing the desert landscape with color. You’ll also find ancient petroglyphs and an array of wildlife, from bobcats to venomous Gila Monsters…I’d suggest giving both a respectably wide berth!

Remember the park covers almost 100,000 acres and is split in two by the city of Tucson, for the best cactus action I suggest heading for the smaller western portion.

• Exploring a variety of cacti through the winding path at the Cactus Garden Trail located at the visitor center.
• Capturing an Instagrammable shot of a huge cactus on a hiking trail.
• Taking a trip to Rincon Mountains for breathtaking views overlooking the unique cacti-filled landscape.

15. Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park, Kansas

The badlands are a vast acreage of ancient wilderness that will take you back to when the Oglala Sioux tribe occupied the lands.

The landscape is arid and strange, with rare Niobrara Chalk outcrops rising from flat prairies like temples. The name ‘Little Jerusalem’ refers to a mile-long collection of these white rocks that rise in awe-inspiring 100 ft spires and cliffs, bringing to mind the ancient city.

During this month the temperature is mild and humidity low so I think it’s a great time to hike one of the two permanent trails and treat yourself to the best views without navigating summer crowds.

Aside from Little Jerusalem, there have been traces of life dating back as far as 85 million years, so I highly recommend looking out for amazing fossils of ancient giant clams and oysters!

• Experiencing a Ranger-Guided Backcountry Hike, where I explored the off-trail paths and saw a different perspective of the rock formations.
• Going on the short Overlook trail which provides breathtaking views across the park.
• Walking the Life on the Rocks Trail and admiring two panoramic viewpoints along the natural, chalky rock surface path.

16. San Diego, California

I think San Diego is awesome for many reasons: it’s beautiful, laid back, rich in maritime history, and surrounded by gorgeous swathes of ocean and parkland!

During this month you can catch some amazing festivals such as Paddy’s Day and The Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival and enjoy the city’s many outdoor delights in the sunshine.

You’ll also get better rates on flights and accommodation by avoiding peak season F or totally chilled-out bohemian vibes I highly recommend Ocean Beach for cheap and delicious Mexican food, killer margaritas, and a real new wave ‘summer of love’/ surfy atmosphere.

Just out of the city, nature lovers will delight at the carpets of wildflowers in Anza Borrego Desert State Park or the flower fields at Carlsbad Ranch. It is also the perfect time to catch the immense Gray Whales on their migration back north.

I would suggest driving along the historic Route 101 and seeing how many you can spot or taking an organized tour from the marina.

• Taking a ride through the exquisite and colorful Carlsbad Flower Fields on a retro tractor.
• Taking a sunset sail tour and enjoying the city’s landmarks, and have an unforgettable experience.
• Exploring the Spanish-style village in Balboa Park, filled with museums, galleries, and gardens.

17. Arches National Park, Utah

With intolerable summer temperatures of up to 100 degrees, The Arches National Park’s peak season is often unbearable for those not accustomed to the heat.

Add crowds to that; no matter how fabulous the landscape is, it can be a miserable experience! I personally think it’s wiser instead to head to the iconic park in early spring when temperatures are far more pleasant, and the crowds are yet to arrive.

The Arche’s strange prehistoric landscape has become synonymous with Utah, and the instantly recognizable ‘Delicate Arch’ is now the symbol for the whole state. With over 2000 of these otherworldly stone arches and relics of the nomadic Ute tribe, there is plenty to explore across the 119 square miles of the reserve! 

Most trails are short and accessible except The Devils Garden Primitive Trail, which requires a slightly more seasoned hiker. For the ultimate Arches experience, I recommend trying to hit the park at sunset and seeing the whole thing cast in an ethereal orange glow. It is absolutely beautiful!

• Getting an Insta-worthy shot of the breathtaking mountain backdrop during the hike to the iconic Delicate Arch.

18. Palm Springs, California

If you fancy yourself a bit of a hipster you’d better get to Palm Springs, a cool and artsy city long favored by the Hollywood jet-set for its glamorous elegance, sunshine, and healing springs.

The city, nestled in the beautiful Coachella Valley between 4 mountain ranges is particularly notable for its many examples of mid-century modern architecture, swanky boutique shopping, and world-class art….and golf of course.

While you’re there, I would suggest you don’t miss the amazing aerial tramway for stunning views across the entire valley, perhaps a mountaintop lunch, or the amazing Sunnylands Public Gardens and Mansion.

Although much of the mid-century architecture belongs to private owners you can still take in some amazing examples by taking a tour through the Tennis Club and Araby Cove districts.

There are so many things to do but a visit to Palm Springs would not be complete without making the most of alfresco dining in the city’s beautiful restaurants…my little tip, go for ones that are tucked away off main tourist routes and you’ll get superior quality for a fraction of the price.

19. Sedona, Arizona

The desert town of Sedona near Flagstaff, Arizona, is America’s answer to Glastonbury. During this month, I think hikers will delight in the perfect temperatures, rust-colored trails, and wildflowers in full bloom.

Surrounded by majestic red rock buttes and ancient pine forests, the town has become a haven for people in search of spiritual and metaphysical healing. The streets are lined with new-age shops and Native American-inspired treatment centers. I personally love it! 

Sedona is believed to have several ‘Vortexes’, swirling centers of energy emanating from the red rocks. It is regarded as a cathedral without walls or a natural henge.

Here you can expect to find yoga retreats, hippy rituals, and all forms of spiritual healing, it is said that no matter what brings you to Sedona you will always feel lighter and brighter with your spirit soothed, uplifted, and restored!

20. Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas

A great location for hikers or adventure vacation, Palo Duro Canyon on the Texas Panhandle is the second largest Canyon in the country and I personally think this is a great time to visit for warm temperatures, fewer crowds and less rain too! 

The park’s most iconic rock formation is called the lighthouse. It rises out of the ground in 300 ft of splendid rust-colored rock…in my opinion, the hugely popular lighthouse trail is the best way to view it and get amazing views out over the canyon.

I think it’s also worth extending your stay to overnight in one of the camping or glamping sites, as the night skies in this part of the world are truly phenomenal!

I would suggest looking out for the unmistakable herds of protected Texas Longhorn cattle that roam freely across the land. Adventure lovers might want to try the terrifying zip line that crosses the canyon between Dallas and New Mexico.

It‘s home to caribou, moose, foxes, arctic ground squirrels, bears, as well as Mount Denali – the highest mountain in North America. It’s a perfect romantic place for all adventurous souls!

A must-do is a bus trip to the park (there is no other way to get into the park, except for sightseeing flights). There are several alternatives and tours you can choose from (the deeper you go into the park, the more wildlife you see). You can also head out into the wild with your partner for a few days with a “camper bus”. Backpacking in Denali National Park is a very unique and romantic experience. If you decide on a backpacking adventure, start at the Ranger station to get your permit and learn about camping safety.

The coolest accommodation in the area is Kantishna Roadhouse – a full-service backcountry lodge located 90 miles into pristine nature.

The best time to visit the Denali National Park is in the summer season, approximately from June to August. At the end of August, there is a good chance to see the Northern Lights.

The great thing about Florida is that it’s warm almost all year round. But, for the most pleasant warmth and avoiding the staggering crowds that Orlando attracts, visiting between March to June or September to October is best. Some of the most romantic things to do in Orlando include a swan peddle-boat ride on Lake Eola, a champagne ride on The Ferris Wheel at ICON Park, a trip to a romantic spa inside Walt Disney World, or a memorable dinner at the Hillstone Restaurant in Winter Park which is quite the proposal hot spot!

8 – Joshua Tree National Park, California

Joshua Tree National Park is without a doubt one of the most romantic destinations in the US. You can visit the park during a  West Coast road trip  and enjoy an overnight stay in an  Airstream , or make it a full vacation! 9 – Maui, Hawai

Hawaii is an amazing place to visit and it doesn’t come much better than the island of Maui – definitely one of the best romantic getaways in the united states. This is an ideal getaway for couples looking for a romantic retreat. It’s home to many beautiful beaches, lush green gardens and there are so many luxury resorts you can enjoy with your other half.

The summer months of June, July, and August are the most popular times to visit the island but going on the shoulder season on either side of these months may be a better choice as you still get great weather but with fewer crowds.

The Florida Keys is an amazing spot to charter a boat. The Keys are the only living coral reef in the US and provide excellent spots for sailing.  You can spend the weekend wildlife spotting on the reef or sail down to the Everglades NP, or just enjoy the nightlife and scenery in the local area. You’ll feel the sparks flying as you relax and unwind with your other half.

There are several ways we suggest to find romance at Disney:

• Get  matching Mickey & Minnie ears : Getting matching ears is a great way to flaunt your love when you are celebrating an anniversary. Pair the ears with celebration buttons. You can pick the buttons up at guest services at any of the Disney Parks. Personalize them, and everyone will know you are celebrating. It is fun to see the reactions you get from the buttons, and perhaps even some special treatment. A free fast pass from a Disney cast member that notices? Don’t mind if we do! Even when you’re grown, the attention never gets old. 
• Splurge On A Hotel Upgrade: If you usually go for basic accommodations, consider what an upgrade will do. The extra luxury you’ll feel with your celebrations is sure to add some extra magic. 
• Firework Cruises: A fireworks cruise is a great way to add romance. The boat plays the audio to the fireworks and you’ll feel the sparks fly as you snuggle up together and steal some kisses. 
• Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride: Another great way to snuggle up and enjoy the sights together. 
• Vows: You do not need to have a fancy vow renewal to remind each other of the commitment you have made to each other. Find your favorite spot in Disney (ours is in front of the castle lit up at night), and take a few moments to share why you keep choosing your partner every day. 
• Dinner for Two:  Pre-reserve a romantic dinner for two at one of the many Disney themed or specialty restaurants, followed by a dessert fireworks celebration (Disney World). It is a perfect pairing to end your great celebration. 
• Purchase Disney’s Memory Maker:  Do not rely only on selfies taken on your phones. This is an important reason to celebrate — have a Disney photographer help you by taking some magical photos. We made that mistake once, and never will again.

Disney is currently taking extra precautions with Covid-19. Expect to have to wear a mask and check in on what is expected and operational before you arrive. Disneyland is currently still closed, but Disney World is operating.

To tell you the truth, many couples planning an anniversary trip probably wouldn’t think about Western Wyoming as a romantic destination in the US. What I can tell you is what Jackson Hole doesn’t offer in glam or luxury, it makes up for it with its natural beauty and options of outdoor recreation and adventure. While  traveling in the USA , I visited it a few times and I would definitely recommend couple consider Jackson Hole as a romantic place to visit in the US.

Being in close affinity to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole can be your base to visit both these parks. Yellowstone is home to many waterfalls, wildlife, geysers, and lakes- and you should definitely visit it. While not as famous as Yellowstone, Grand Teton has a lot of beautiful lakes and hike trails and everything an outdoorsy couple would look for.

And now coming to Jackson Hole, there is no dearth of romantic things to do. You can go on a hot air balloon ride over the gorgeous vistas of Teton Valley. Head to Jackson Lake in the afternoon for kayaking. Maybe have dinner at Couloir at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort that involves a gondola ride.

The months of April to October are the best time to visit, But if you want a ski-focused anniversary trip, then visiting in winter is incredible. And if you do visit in winter, snowmobile to Granite Hot Springs or Brooks Lake Lodge.

As the gateway to the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas is a great homebase for a long weekend.  There are plenty of amazing places to stay in St. Thomas either right on the beach or high up overlooking the ocean.  We especially love the condos at Sapphire Bay or Secret Harbor as they both offer beautiful beaches with fantastic snorkeling just steps from your door.   

Not only are these condos located on some of the best beaches on the island, but they are the perfect place to maintain social distance while still enjoying everything the island has to offer.  Rent a car and explore all of the amazing beaches and hiking trails on your own, or even take the short ferry ride over to St. John to check out the Virgin Islands National Park, all without requiring much contact with anyone.  

Looking for an ultra-romantic experience for your anniversary trip in the US?  Charter a boat for an afternoon of exploring secluded beaches and islands all on your own.  Chartering a boat is surprisingly more affordable than you might think, but for a more budget-friendly version, head out on a sunset cruise.  Once coronavirus restrictions relax a bit, a couples massage on the beach at the Ritz Carlton or a trip on the sky tram to Paradise Point will make a great addition to your anniversary trip.   

7. Discover Big Bend National Park, TX

As one of the least visited national parks in the US, Big Bend is perfect for a relaxing anniversary trip, especially during COVID times. The park is located in southwestern Texas, where the Rio Grande River takes a ‘big bend’ marking the border with Mexico. The closest airport to the park is Odessa/Midland, about 150 mi from the main park entrance.

Big Bend National Park is worth visiting because it includes three very different ecosystems within park borders, allowing for a variety of scenic trips and activities – desert, mountains, and river. Most of the park is covered by the Chihuahuan Desert, with cactus and scrubland – the best way to get deep into the desert is on a backcountry jeep tour unless you have a high-clearance vehicle and can drive yourself. 

Big Bend is also unique because it is the only national park in the US to include an entire mountain range within its borders – the Chisos Mountains, home to some scenic hikes like the Window Trail, a 2-hour hike ending at a ‘window’ between the rocks with a 500 ft drop.  Don’t forget comfortable hiking shoes .

In Big Bend National Park, you can also explore the riverine ecosystem, hiking to the Santa Elena Canyon or kayaking down the Rio Grande river. A weekend should be just enough to appreciate the beauty and vastness of Big Bend. The best time to visit is spring, when the desert flowers are in bloom, turning the stark landscape into a colourful artist’s palette!

Big Sur is a stretch of land on the Pacific Coast of Central California spanning about 90 miles and is one of the most breathtaking places on the West Coast. Sedona Arizona is an incredible place for a romantic weekend getaway for the outdoorsy type. Whether you love hiking , biking, sightsee, shop or check out the local art and spiritual stores there is plenty to do. Visiting in the summer can be brutally hot, which is why fall and spring are often the best times to go.

Depending on what type of romantic getaway you are wanting, a great starting point would be the Tlaquepaque Art and Shopping center. There are plenty of gift shops, restaurants and art galleries to explore. It had a little European vibe to it and the entire village was beautiful. 

No trip to Sedona is complete without visiting the Chapel of the Holy Cross. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be religious to visit it. The building is stunning as it is built into the side of the red rock mountains outside of the town. The building looks incredibly futuristic and is a great photo opportunity with the mountains behind it.

The best “easy” hike in Sedona is Cathedral Rock trail, which is only 1.4 miles out and back, but gains around 600 feet in elevation. Grand Canyon National Park is the perfect romantic weekend getaway.  The main place to access the canyon is the south rim.  There are multiple viewpoints along the rim where couples can sit and gaze at one of the most breathtaking sights in the world. Get up early for the sunrise and head back for the sunset when the soft light and colorful skies make it even more romantic.  Don’t forget compact binoculars to expand your views. There is a free shuttle along the rim and easy trails.

There is a well-established area around the South Rim, Grand Canyon Village. Here there are several lodges, including the stunning El Tovar, which is perched right on the canyon rim.  Splurge to stay in  a room with a view of Grand Canyon  and definitely book a meal in their grand dining room.  The sky-high vaulted ceiling built with rustic logs is a national parks classic and the perfect location for your anniversary celebratory dinner.   

For the more adventurous, hit the trails and head below the rim. The Bright Angel Trail is the most popular trail leading from the south rim all the way down to the Colorado River at the bottom.  If you can get a reservation, staying at Phantom Ranch on the canyon floor is a different twist for your anniversary celebration.  You can always turn back at Indian Garden, though, and head back up to the top.

Boston is a walking city – all of the interesting historical sites, delicious restaurants, and fun shopping areas are just a few minutes away from each other along flat paths that take you through quiet parks, wide esplanades or bustling sidewalks. It would be easy to walk and talk together while enjoying everything that Boston has to offer.

A couple of awesome activities to do together in Boston is a food tour, like the Boston Secret Food Tour. You explore Little Italy and other parts of Boston all the while eating LOTS of delectable food! During Covid, you can still book this tour but it will be private. Of course, a visit to Boston would not be complete without walking the Freedom Trail, which is a 2.5 mile walk that connects 16 significant historical sites. You can do this without a guide or choose one of the free walking tours still offered.

If you are looking to share a treat at the end of the day, head over to Mike’s Pastry, a Boston landmark. Here you can try one of the best cannolis in the city, some of which have crazy flavors. Bring cash and prepare to wait in a long line!

17. Be Inspired at Zion National Park

To the west, less than a half-hour from the city center is Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. Unfortunately, concerts at Red Rocks are currently on hold due to COVID-19, but they will resume once it is safe to do so. 

To the northwest, you’ll find the rugged rocky peaks and the abundance of wildlife that has made Rocky Mountain National Park famous. Take a day trip from the city to hike to spectacular Dream Lake or Sky Pond, and stop by Sprague Lake and Moraine Park on the way back to see if you can spot some elk or moose, both of which call the National Park home.

March of course is spring break  time (in many places, the peak will be in the first half of the month, but can extend right up until March 30, 2024), and a zoo in places like Cancun, Key West and Panama City FL. Want to visit the American southwest before it heats up? March is a great time for a  getaway in romantic Arizona . This sunny state has to be one of the best places in the U.S. to travel to in the month of March. Arizona weather is comfortably warm in the early spring, with temperatures like:

• Phoenix:  average daytime highs of 77 F
• Tucson:  average daytime highs of 74 F

March is perfect for the enjoying the resorts, golf and destination spas Phoenix and Tucson are famous for. The south rim of the Grand Canyon is also very "visitable" in March, with fewer crowds and traffic. But take along a coat as it can still snow at higher elevations.

• Hawaii - One of the "cooler" months in the islands, but you'll still enjoy the sun and an average 79 F (27 C) daytime high.
• Italy - Moderately dry, with cooler temps up north in the Alps (57 F or 15 C), and highs in the mid 60's (18 C) in Rome, Naples and Sicily.
• Paris - Still a bit cool (51 F, 11 C) but some sunny days and the blossoms of spring starting to appear.
• New York City - Some very early signs of Spring, daytime highs of 48F. Pack an umbrella though...
• Bermuda - 69 F is the average daytime high, humidity is at it's lowest, and most rainfall is likely to be in the evening hours.
• San Juan, Puerto Rico - March is Puerto Rico's driest month, and expect high temps around 85 F.
• San Francisco - Expect a high of about 62 F during the day, warming up a bit more as the end of the month approaches.
