Billy Idol announces UK arena tour with The Go-Go’s

Idol will hit the road next year for his first UK dates since 2018

Billy Idol has announced details of his UK arena tour next summer and confirmed that The Go-Go’s will support him on all of the dates.

Idol’s ‘Roadside Tour 2022’ will feature “new music, a stack of timeless classics and his long-time lead guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens”, according to a press release.

The tour, which will mark Idol’s first UK dates since 2018, includes six arena shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London, Cardiff and Leeds.

“I can’t wait to get back on the road in the UK again,” Idol said in a statement. “And enjoy that exhilaration and energy that only comes from playing in front of a live British audience.”

The Go-Go’s will serve as the main support act on all six dates, with the band saying of their booking: “We are thrilled to be sharing the stage with Billy Idol on his 2022 summer UK tour dates.

“We haven’t had an opportunity to play for our British fans in 26 years and can’t wait to see you all.”

Idol recently released his latest EP ‘The Roadside’. Speaking about the record, Idol reflected on his near-fatal motorcycle accident in 1990, how he dealt with it and how it relates to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“It seemed quite logical and natural to write something about my motorcycle accident,” he said about the EP. “I may have been saying, ‘Well, this is what people go through when they are in trouble’. I think I was unconsciously making that connection.

“Certainly, the motorcycle accident was the catharsis, the wake-up moment. Maybe I left behind the irreverent, youthful Billy and opened the door for a more attentive father and more sensitive musician. Something did get left by the roadside, but it was not necessarily a bad thing in the end.”

Rock icons The Go-Go’s have announced that they will be touring with Billy Idol on a forthcoming UK run.

The band took to Twitter to make the announcement: “We haven’t had an opportunity to play for our British fans in 26 years and can’t wait to see you all.” Tickets for the tour—which kicks off in June of 2022—go on sale Thursday (9/30).

The Go-Go’s have been in the news of late, thanks to the 40th anniversary of their seminal Beauty and the Beat .

On July 8, 1981, The Go-Go’s released their platinum-selling, landmark debut. To celebrate the anniversary of its release, UMe/Interscope released Beauty and the Beat – 40th Anniversary Limited Edition pressed on pink vinyl with new cover art featuring a never-before-seen photo taken from the original album cover shoot. The project was reissued on September 10. Each copy is numbered and only was available at uDiscover, The Sound of Vinyl, and the band’s official store. Vinyl copies of the reissue have already sold out.

The Go-Go’s skyrocketed to superstardom after they released one of the most successful debut albums of all time . Beauty and the Beat is a collection of hook-laden, infectious songs that stayed at No. 1 on the Billboard charts for six consecutive weeks, spawning the hits “Our Lips Are Sealed” (named one of Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Pop Singles) and “We Got The Beat” and also earned them a Grammy nomination for “Best New Artist.” They have the notable distinction of being the only all-female band to write their own songs and play their own instruments on a No.1 album.

The Go-Go’s also  recently announced their 2021/2022 North American west coast dates to celebrate the band’s upcoming induction into the 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The tour kicks off December 28, 2021 in San Francisco at the Masonic Auditorium. The band is also set to hit Los Angeles, Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, and San Diego.

The world's favourite rebel Billy Idol is back and heading out on The Roadside Tour 2022 with some new music, a stack of timeless classics and his long-time lead guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens. For his first appearances in the UK since 2018, Billy will play 6 Arena dates in June 2022 and tickets go on sale at 9am on Thursday, September 30 here .

Supporting Billy Idol are very special guests The Go-Go's making their first UK appearance for 26 years.

For forty-five years, Billy Idol has been one of the faces and voices of rock'n'roll, with an artistic resume to match the brilliant light of the image. First as the camera-ready front man for Generation X, between 1977 and 1981 Idol emerged with three albums that made positivity, emotional depth, and high pop synonymous with punk rock. In 1982, Idol embarked on a remarkable transatlantic/trans-genre solo career that integrated clubland throb, wide-screen depth and drama, rockabilly desperation, the bold and simple lines of punk, and rock'n'roll decadence.

Formed in California in 1978, The Go-Go's became the first all-female band writing their own material and playing their own instruments to top the U.S. Billboard album chart with their multi-platinum debut, Beauty And The Beat. Billy Idol Plots 2023 North American Tour [Update]

[UPDATE]:  Original punk  Billy Idol  has extended his stay in North America with an additional crop of August and September tour dates. The run of concerts includes a mix of headlining shows and festivals throughout the U.S. and Canada along with a Las Vegas residency.

Idol just polished off his previously announced run of North American shows on Saturday with an appearance at  Cruel World Festival  in Pasadena, CA and wasted no time scheduling his return. Before coming back to North America, Idol will embark on the first-ever  Generation Sex  tour, which will see Idol helm the punk group featuring  Tony James  (Generation X) along with  Steve Jones  and  Paul Cook  (Sex Pistols) for a tour of the U.K. and Europe.

Idol returns to North America on August 27th for a show in Vancouver, BC. He and his band, featuring his collaborator and lead guitarist of the last 40 years Steve Stevens , will tour the Western United States, making stops in Washington, Montana, and Colorado, including an appearance at Jazz Aspen Snowmass  alongside Foo Fighters ,  The Lumineers ,  Old Dominion , and others on September 3rd.

The following week, Idol is on the East Coast for a run of shows through Washington, D.C., Boston, Brooklyn, Camden, NJ, and a return to D.C. for an intimate show at the newly opened  The Atlantis . Come October, Idol will check in to Las Vegas’ The Cosmopolitan  for a five-show residency.

While on his most recent U.S. tour, Idol played the first-ever concert at the Hoover Dam . Straddling the Arizona/Nevada border, Idol ran through a setlist of his celebrated hits and recent work with a backing band that included special guests Alison Mosshart (The Kills, The Dead Weather), Steve Jones (Sex Pistols), and Tony Kanal (No Doubt). [1/23/23]: Celebrated British rocker Billy Idol will head out on the road for a run of 2023 spring tour dates in the United States. Each of the stops on the 2023 Billy Idol tour will include hits from throughout his catalog as well as music from his recent EPs, 2022’s The Cage and 2021’s  The Roadside .

The trek will begin on March 30th with a performance in Scottsdale, AZ followed by stops in Reno, NV (4/1) and Denver, CO (4/4). Two weeks later, Billy Idol will bring his “Rebel Yell” east for a run of four shows in Florida before working his way north for concerts in Atlanta, GA (4/26), Moon Township, PA (5/1), and Baltimore, MD (5/3).

After a quick trip to Canada for a show in Niagara Falls, ON (5/5), the “White Wedding” singer will head to the midwest for shows in Cincinnati, OH (5/6), Indianapolis, IN (5/9), Kansas City, MO (5/11), and St. Paul, MN (5/12). Finally, Idol will wrap the outing with a headlining slot at Goldenvoice ‘s  Cruel World Festival in Pasadena, CA on Saturday, May 20th.

Billy Idol Announces Spring 2023 North American Tour

Billy Idol is going on a 15-stop tour across North America from March through May with his longtime guitarist Steve Stevens.

Ahead of his Cruel World Festival performance, Billy Idol is going on a 15-stop tour across North America from March through May. Stopping in cities such as Reno, Orlando, Baltimore, and Cincinnati, Idol will be backed by Steve Stevens — lead guitarist and songwriting partner — and his longtime band at all shows.

Idol’s most recent full-length studio album, Kings & Queens of the Underground , was released in 2014, followed by two EPs, The Roadside (2021) and The Cage (2022).

Tickets go on sale to the general public on January 27 at 10am local time on Ticketmaster . Legendary rocker Billy Idol will embark on his transcontinental Rebel Yell Canada 2024 arena tour this summer, beginning July 30 in Vancouver and running through August 25 in St. John’s , Newfoundland . Produced by Live Nation Canada, Idol’s show will include a myriad of hits from across his career with a focus on the landmark Rebel Yell album, which is celebrating its 40 th anniversary. Joining Idol is his longtime backing band, including his lead guitarist and collaborator of over 40 years, Steve Stevens . Canadian Walk Of Fame inductees Platinum Blonde will appear as special guest across all stops.

In anticipation of the upcoming tour dates, Idol helped introduce Sportsnet’s “Hockey Night in Canada ” coverage on Saturday, April 6 and was interviewed live during the broadcast.

Hard-rocking superstar Billy Idol has added 2023 tour dates to his schedule. Six new shows are planned in August and September.

Also on the schedule are five October shows at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. At 67 years old, Billy has been steadily touring since 2011 and delivering hair-raising anthems such as "White Wedding" and "Rebel Yell" to his legions of fans.

Billy Joel special will air again after abrupt cut-off on CBS

CBS said it will re-air its broadcast of Billy Joel's 100th consecutive performance at Madison Square Garden after it was cut short for some viewers on Sunday. 

Joel was in the middle of singing "Piano Man" when local news began in some parts of the country. 

"Due to the overwhelming demand from his legion of fans," Joel's performance, filmed on March 28, will air again in its entirety on Friday, April 19, at 9 p.m. ET, CBS said on Monday. Fans can also watch Joel's performance on  Paramount+ .

"A network programming timing error ended last night's Billy Joel special approximately two minutes early in the Eastern and Central Time Zones," Julie Holland, CBS's Vice President of Communications, said in a statement. "We apologize to Mr. Joel, his fans, our affiliated stations, and our audience whose viewing experience was interrupted during the last song."

Joel performed some of his biggest hits during the performance, including "New York State of Mind" and his new single "Turn the Lights Back On." Sting joined him on stage during the concert to perform "Big Man on Mulberry Street." Joel also brought out Jerry Seinfeld.

Sunday's special got a late start after the 2024 Masters Tournament .

The singer has performed at Madison Square Garden a record number of times. He'll perform there for the final time in July 2024.

During interviews with Entertainment Tonight , the country superstar and longtime "Idol" host confessed that Perry's pop star peer Meghan Trainor could take her place.

"I think Meghan's always been real fun. You know, that's kinda been her brand, to have fun," Bryan told ET. "(She's) real witty, so certainly.

Perry announced on " Jimmy Kimmel Live! " in February she will exit the ABC reality singing competition show after seven seasons amid a "very exciting year" while teasing a possible music comeback. The "I Kissed A Girl" singer released her last album "Smile" in August 2020.

On Monday's episode of "Idol," Trainor guest starred as a mentor to help prepare the Top 12 to perform their Billboard No. 1 hits before viewers cut down the dozen contestants to the Top 10.

Bryan also said that he has at least "10 names" in his head as possibly Perry replacements to join him and music legend Lionel Richie on the panel, but he told ET that he wasn't ready to reveal them. He also told the entertainment outlet that he didn't know about any possible replacement ideas from the show producers.

Richie said that Perry's replacement has got to "be fun, but no ego because we're (going to) insult each other so much."

The CBS broadcast of Billy Joel ‘s milestone 100th headlining show at Madison Square Garden was regrettably stuck between a rock and a hard place: the Masters golf tournament and the local news. The concert special, which captured the show held on March 28 and aired on Sunday evening, was subject to a number of scheduling changes that left fans — and news anchors — disappointed and frustrated when The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden – The Greatest Arena Run of All Time was ultimately cut short for time.

The Masters caused the broadcast to begin 30 minutes later than its expected 9 p.m. EST start time, which might not have caused too much upset if it didn’t lead to the show abruptly ending in the middle of “Piano Man.”

On the original setlist, the “Piano Man” singalong marked the last song before the hit-filled encore featuring “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” “Uptown Girl,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” and “Big Shot.” In the broadcast, the order was shifted around to close with “Piano Man,” and only “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me” made the final cut.
