Blackpink’s Born Pink Tour Opens in Seoul With Surprise Performances, Unreleased Track

By Kristine Kwak

Kristine Kwak

Global superstars Blackpink kicked off the Born Pink World Tour Saturday in the group’s home ground of Seoul, South Korea. The girls returned to the KSPO Dome, the same venue where they opened their first-ever tour “In Your Area.”

That was four years ago, when the venue was still called the Olympic Gymnastics Arena, and the tour concluded in late February 2020, right before Covid-19 lockdowns started happening around the world. Since then, the girls have shot up even higher into super-stardom: With The Album , the group’s Netflix documentary Blackpink: Light Up the Sky , and their livestream concert “The Show” all in 2020.

The group kicked off the show with “How You Like That” and “Pretty Savage,” dressed in custom ivory outfits with Asian-inspired silhouettes and prints. “It feels weird to perform in front of our Blinks after so long. I feel nervous and emotional and excited,” Rosé shared.

The KSPO Dome was flooded early in the day with fans eager to check out the merch tents and brand activations taking place. Vendors sold everything from Korean street food to binoculars so fans could get a better glimpse.

“It’s been so long since we performed in front of so many of our Blinks. I’m so happy to see not only our Korean Blinks but also Blinks from overseas,” Lisa said, tearing up. “It’s so meaningful to start our tour in Seoul. We made some mistakes due to nerves since it’s been four years, but I hope you still had fun,” added Jisoo.

As expected, Blackpink put on a stellar show with some surprises up their sleeves, and the girls’ efforts showed in their solo performance stages. Jisoo performed a cover of “Liar” by Camila Cabello, complete with a dance break routine she absolutely nailed.

Rather than performing hit track “Solo,” Jennie opted to perform an unreleased song reminiscent of her recent interpretative dance video for Tamburins . “I wanted to show you all something new, you might have been a bit surprised,” she said with a smile.

Rosé performed her newly released solo track “Hard to Love” before switching up the beat for “On the Ground,” and Lisa turned up the heat with a pole dance routine for her solo performance. “I watched her practice pole dancing through the pain. It’s much harder than it looks,” Jennie said of Lisa.

At the end of the show, there was a prepared event where the entire venue was echoing with fans singing a verse of “Forever Young.” Compared to the group’s first tour, Saturday’s show felt significantly more full than the last thanks to their expanded discography.

Exclusive: BLACKPINK Closes

Exclusive: BLACKPINK Closes "BORN PINK" Tour With Monumental Finale At Gocheok Dome

BLACKPINK has closed out their “BORN PINK” tour with a bang for their finale in Seoul!

From September 16 to 17, BLACKPINK wrapped up their successful “BORN PINK” world tour with a grand finale in Seoul, making history as the first K-pop female artist to hold a concert at Gocheok Sky Dome.

Kicking off with fireworks and powerful dance performances, BLACKPINK made their entrance with “Pink Venom,” filling up Gocheok Sky Dome with their explosive energy. Greeting the sea of pink, the BLACKPINK members each took turns introducing themselves. Rosé shared, “We’re finally performing in Seoul after one year—I’m really happy!”

Keeping the energy going, BLACKPINK continued with performances of “How You Like That” and “Pretty Savage” and an emotional performance of “Kick It.” Lisa remarked, “I think the screaming is louder [today].” Jisoo added, “Let’s keep going with this high energy,” while Jennie suggested doing a stretch with their light sticks to get everyone ready for the concert and energized.

BLACKPINK checked the audience’s energy with an impressive performance of “WHISTLE.” Afterwards, the concert highlighted BLACKPINK’s dance crew and their eye-catching performances as the members got ready for their solo performances. Taking the time to showcase BLACKPINK’s illustrious solo careers, Jennie performed “Solo” and “YOU & ME,” with a beautiful duo performance using shadows. Rosé impressed with her vocals through “Gone” and “On The Ground,” while Jisoo brought everyone’s attention on her with “All Eyes On ME” and “FLOWER,” and Lisa amped up the crowd with her powerful rapping and captivating dancing through “MONEY.”

Following their performance of “Kill This Love,” BLACKPINK had the audience clapping and singing along with “Lovesick Girls” and “PLAYING WITH FIRE.” After a performance from the live band, BLACKPINK created a story on stage through a musical-like performance of “Typa Girl.” With deafening cheers, BLACKPINK brought the house down with “Shut Down.”

As the crowd waved their light sticks and sang along, BLACKPINK showed off their sweet chemistry with their performance of “Don’t Know What To Do.” Rosé shared, “I’m so happy that so many people came to our last [‘BORN PINK’] concert.” She added, “I’m so happy to be able to have our last performance in Seoul. Thank you. I’m not going to cry today because I cried yesterday.” Jennie remarked, “Today feels like a day to wrap up the past year.” Finally BLACPINK began to reach the climax of their concert with “Tally,” “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” and “Forever Young,” signaling the beginning of the end of their show with a resounding, “BLACPINK in your area!”

After handing over the spotlight to fans to showcase their dancing skills while waiting for the encore, BLACKPINK returned to greet BLINKs again with fan favorites including “Stay,” “BOOMBAYAH,” and “Yeah Yeah Yeah.”

Wrapping up, Jisoo shared, “One year ago, around this time, we started [our concert] in Seoul, and one year later now, we got to wrap up the concert, so I’m happy to wrap up with good memories until the end. Thank you, BLINK. While performing yesterday and today, I got the thought that while performing for the past year, it is a relief no one got hurt and everyone stayed healthy. I’m grateful many BLINKs gave us strength. BLINK, BLACKPINK, and all the staff, you’ve all worked so hard. Thank you.”

Rosé remarked, “Our first-ever Seoul concert feels like it was just yesterday,” mentioning how Jennie had also teared up at the time and that she still looks the same four to five years later. She continued, “It feels like yesterday, but we are doing our second world tour. It’s so fascinating. It feels like yesterday even though we went back and forth on a plane so much. It feels like we’ve become one with BLINK, and although this is our ‘last’ [‘BORN PINK’ concert], it feels like we will be together forever.”

Lisa shared, “I wrote what I wanted to say on my phone because I didn’t want to forget what I wanted to say. To our BLINKs, it’s been over 2,596 days since we met. We were able to perform at such diverse and amazing concert venues thanks to BLINKs. If it weren’t for BLINKs, we couldn’t have done it. Thank you so much for being with us through rain or shine. Thank you BLINKs for this amazing experience, and I really love you all. And thank you BLINKs for making my 20s shine.”

Finally, Jennie shared, “First, I want to tell the members that they’ve worked really hard. There was a lot of time spent traveling and flying, but the four of us led each other with great strength and stayed in good health, so I really want to tell my members that they’ve worked so hard. It’s been seven years since our debut, and while looking back on those times, in order to show how impressive we are, we weren’t always able to meet BLINKs in Korea, so that was really unfortunate. I really wanted to do our encore here, so I’m very happy. Thank you. To all tour staff who worked hard and ran until the end to wrap up the finale, I know you all worked hard, so I want to spread this honor with the staff. And BLINKs, thank you for loving and cheering us on as always. We will work hard and continue to be BLACKPINK who always impresses.”

Finally, BLACKPINK concluded with their performance of “AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST,” taking turns to give a grand bow and to once again thank everyone including BLINKs, their dancers, band, and staff for their successful “BORN PINK” tour.

The upcoming concerts will mark the end of BLACKPINK’s “Born Pink” world tour, bringing it to a total of 66 shows. The tour first began in October 2022 in Seoul after the release of their second studio album of the same name. Over the past year, the girl group have toured across North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

The quartet are currently back in North America for a series of encore concerts , the last of which will take place at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on August 26.

During the initial leg of the “Born Pink” trek, the tour’s creative director Amy Bowerman spoke to NME about the process behind working on the largest tour in the history of K-Pop girl groups to date. “BLACKPINK really know their audience, and what works for them, so they had a lot of feedback for us with what works where,” she explained. “They’re very on top of and connected with the music. They were the ones in charge of their setlist, so we knew the main tracks we wanted to work with, and then it was [about] what songs go well [with them]. BLACKPINK's Jennie spotted attending SEVENTEEN TOUR ‘FOLLOW' AGAIN TO SEOUL

O n April 27, 2024, BLACKPINK's Jennie was spotted attending the SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW AGAIN' TO SEOUL held at Seoul World Cup Stadium. She was accompanied by friends, including Lee Hojung, Yang Hyeji, and Alison. The concert was organized and hosted by Pledis Entertainment and HYBE.

CARATs attending SEVENTEEN's concert spotted the BLACKPINK member in the stadium, who was seen cheering for the members with her friends. They captured the female singer having fun at the concert and uploaded the video on social media, which soon went viral among the fans. They could not stop gushing over the SEVENTEEN and Jennie's cordial bond.

(Twitter Translation: Jenny in the Middle?)

BLACKPINK's Jennie was reportedly spotted capturing the SEVENTEEN's concert with her phone

In the viral videos, BLACKPINK's Jennie reportedly wore a light blue t-shirt styled with black wide-leg pants and a scarf. She covered herself with a cap and had black sunglasses over it. She was reportedly using her phone to capture the moments from SEVENTEEN's TOUR 'FOLLOW' AGAIN TO SEOUL and dancing to the beats of the music.

While Lee Hojung, Yang Hyeji, and Alison were spotted waving lightsticks, the BLACKPINK member enthusiastically made exciting gestures hinting that she was enjoying the concert. Meanwhile, in other viral photos, she could be seen waving her hands while carrying a wide smile. The female singer seemingly enjoyed her time at the SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW' AGAIN TO SEOUL.

BLACKPINK's Jennie had previously reposted SEVENTEEN's Woozi's Instagram story, where the male idol showcased support for her latest collaboration with Zico for his digital single SPOT! In the story update, Woozi captioned his post, "This duo is crazy."

In response, Jennie reposted Woozi's update and captioned her Instagram story, "I'm looking forward to Maestro ." Maestro is the title track of SEVENTEEN's comeback album, 17 is Right Here , which will be released on April 29, 2024.

With BLACKPINK's Jennie attending SEVENTEEN's concert and Woozi openly supporting the former's solo endeavor, both BLINKS and CARATs were surprised by their unexpected interaction. They were delighted to see their budding friendship and wondered if the female singer had been friends with the group for a long time.

Since Jennie has not decided to renew her individual contract with YG Entertainment in December 2023, the idol has launched her own record label, ODDATELIER. Unlike, in the past, when she was allegedly bound by YG Entertainment's rules of not attending concerts of other artists, she is no longer obliged to follow them due to her non-renewal of her solo contract.

As a result, fans were witnessing more frequent interactions between BLACKPINK members and non-YG artists. With her attending SEVENTEEN's concert, many even wished to see her backstage interaction with the Pledis Entertainment group and for a selca.

The setlist for SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW' AGAIN TO SEOUL includes the following tracks:

Intro Video

  • SUPER (With The8-Led Dance Break)
  • Don Quixote
  • Don't Wanna Cry (New Outro)
  • F*ck My Life
