The Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter Gives Me Glowing Skin in Seconds

Chances are, you’ve seen the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter pop up on your TikTok For You page or Instagram feed at least once over the course of the past year. When I first came across the product, in 2020 during the height of the pandemic—I’m talking the whipped-coffee, banana-bread-baking era—I was instantly intrigued by the product’s alleged ability to simultaneously smooth, blur, and illuminate skin.

As a writer who's tried and tested dozens of products that make equally as bold claims, I’ve learned not to get my hopes up too much. Still, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter. Was it really as good as everyone and their mother says? If this question keeps you up at night too, I've got some good news: It's as good as everyone says. If anything, it exceeded my expectations—and I can’t wait to upgrade to the full-size bottle as soon as I finish up my miniature one. And, at the rate I’m using it, that’ll happen sooner rather than later.

The Flawless Filter is a lightweight liquid formula that leaves skin with a dewy glow without any shimmer or sparkle. The product, which features ultra-fine powders that help blur pores and smooth skin, can be worn either alone as a primer or layered over your usual makeup as a highlighter to accent your cheekbones, brow bones, Cupid’s bow, and tip of the nose.

After cleansing and moisturizing my face, I went in with Flawless Filter in Shade 3 Light/Medium. I applied dots all over my face with the doe-foot applicator before using my favorite makeup brush for streak-free blending and to create a light, even layer of product. You can also use a damp makeup sponge if that's your preference.

Immediately after blending in the product, I was surprised and impressed with how radiant my normally dull skin looked in the mirror, not to mention how small my large pores appeared. While the coverage was sheer, I still looked and felt more awake—and I finally had a smooth canvas for applying the rest of my makeup.

After snapping some selfies (#nofilter, because duh), I swiped on my favorite foundation followed by concealer and cream blush. Instead of using my favorite highlighter—the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Highlighter Wand , of course—I applied two dots of Flawless Filter along my cheeks and, since it was such a tiny amount of product, blended it in with my fingers. Then I applied any excess product left on my finger to my eyelids as an eye shadow primer. Spoiler alert: It worked beautifully, and my shimmery metallic shadow lasted all day long—well past my bottomless brunch and 45-minute train ride home.

HOW TO USE CHARLOTTE TILBURY FLAWLESS FILTER

There are so many wonderful ways to use this product. Used on bare skin or on top of { foundation } it looks amazing on the high points of the face (on the top of the cheeks, the centre of the forehead and chin, your cupid’s bow, the tip of the nose and your brow bone).

For a softer glow, it can be used all over as a priming luminous base under your foundation or directly mixed with your foundation.

CAN YOU USE CHARLOTTE TILBURY FLAWLESS FILTER ON ITS OWN?

Yes, it works really well on its own! As amazing as it is for { make up } fans who like to layer and play, this is a great formula for those who don’t like to wear a ton of makeup and just want one product to effortlessly add some extra oomph to their complexion without watching endless tutorials, making a mess or going through too many steps. The colour matching is also very forgiving so it’s super easy to find a match.

CAN YOU USE FLAWLESS FILTER AS A FOUNDATION?

Yes! Because this product blurs and helps to provide a more even and glowy complexion, it can be used in place of foundation if you’re looking for a very natural look with sheer coverage to let the skin shine. For extra coverage just add a small amount of { concealer } on top to keep a radiant skin-like finish while concealing where needed.

HOW DO YOU MIX CHARLOTTE TILBURY FLAWLESS FILTER WITH FOUNDATION?

Simply add a small amount to the back of your hand and add a pump of your favourite liquid foundation, mix, apply and blend with your tool of choice.

IS HOLLYWOOD FLAWLESS FILTER GOOD FOR OILY SKIN?

It’s great for all skin types, but Cult Beauties with oilier skin should apply it slightly differently. If you’re wearing it underneath or mixing it with foundation then apply it as normal, but if you’re using it one its own or on top of foundation, avoid the T-zone or any areas that typically get oily.

If you want to use it all over, use the applicator to glide across areas that you want to be super glowy first before blending with a brush. Use the remainder of the product on the brush to go over areas that tend to get shiny. This will blend everything in and allow you to still benefit from the blurring action without using too much product. Finish by setting with a light veil of powder.

IS FLAWLESS FILTER GOOD FOR MATURE SKIN?

Absolutely, the formula is hydrating so it won’t look cakey or settle into lines. Instead, it blurs them and adds radiance and luminosity to the skin.

DOES FLAWLESS FILTER CONTAIN SPF?

No, it doesn’t, so make sure you apply { SPF } as the final step in your skin care routine every morning before applying your foundation.
