There were other video games that tried to keep the throne warm in its absence, but EA Sports PGA Tour is back after many years to take its rightful place as the best golf simulator game on the market, and rightfully so. I remember playing the previous EA Sports golf game back in 2014 or so, and everything I’ve played since then just seems… not as good. EA Sports PGA Tour though, now that’s an instant classic to me.

Enhancing shot types boosts their effectiveness, allowing you to tackle increasingly difficult courses and situations.

The game presents an extensive array of shot types to provide you with increased control and adaptability, empowering you to address various challenges on the course. There are 20 shot types in the game, each with a unique profile that impacts ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, and shot dispersion. These shot types fall under four classifications: Driving, Approach, Short Game, and Putting. The following are explanations of each shot type featured in the game.

Driving Shot Types

• Drive: A standard full swing shot that provides consistent distance and accuracy off the tee.
• Power Drive: A stronger full swing shot for added distance off the tee, but with a slightly larger shot dispersion.
• Stinger: A low and forceful shot that stays below the wind and generates lots of roll, perfect for windy conditions and firm courses.

Approach Shot Types

• Approach: A regular full swing shot offering reliable distance and precision from the course.
• Power Approach: A more forceful full swing shot that gains extra yardage from the course, but with a marginally increased shot spread.
• Punch: A low-power shot that remains below the wind and generates lots of roll, mainly used to escape trees and return to the playable area.
• Knock Down: A full swing shot that flies lower than a regular approach but high enough to land softly and stop, utilized to minimize wind impact or prevent excessive ball spin on softer courses.
• Finesse: A shorter, adaptable shot for a broader range of distances, employed when at a distance between clubs on a standard approach or when too close to the green for an approach but too far for short game shots.
• Hack: A forceful full swing shot used from the first cut, second cut, or heavy rough, with less power penalty than other shot types, valuable on courses with dense and punishing longer cuts.

Short Game Shot Types

• Pitch: A standard half swing shot designed to land the ball on the green with a usual amount of roll-out, suitable for use anywhere around the green except for Bunkers.
• Runner: A low-flying half swing shot that can be employed anywhere around the green, with the exception of Bunkers.
• Spinner: A half swing shot with a faster speed, producing more spin on the ball and causing it to check up instead of rolling out, applicable in the Fairway, Fringe, and First Cut.
• Flop: A lengthy swing that tosses the ball high and softly places it on the green, applicable anywhere around the green except for Bunkers.
• Long Flop: A variation of the flop that covers a greater distance, with an increased shot dispersion, suitable for use anywhere around the green excluding Bunkers.
• High Flop: A version of the flop that soars extremely high, landing and stopping on a dime, usable anywhere around the green except for Bunkers and Heavy Rough.
• Blast: A shot specifically intended for Bunker play, striking the sand behind the ball to lift it out of the Bunker and onto the green.
• Pick: A different approach to Bunker shots, this cleaner strike connects with less sand and more of the ball, leading to enhanced spin and minimized rollout.

Putting Shot Types

• Putt: A stroke using a putter that instantly sets the ball in motion, solely employed on the Green or Fringe.
• Chip: A short, putt-like stroke with wedges and short irons that gently lifts the ball into the air for a couple yards before getting it to roll quickly, mainly used when near the green to transport the ball over a somewhat longer patch of grass and onto the shorter sections that facilitate rolling.
• Texas Wedge: A stroke with the putter that instantly gets the ball rolling, even when not on the Green or Fringe. Determining the distance can be challenging, but mastering this shot proves extremely effective.

Enhance your golfer’s attributes by completing quests, which are various objectives and milestones you’ll encounter throughout your career. Allocating skill points to the five skill categories (power, accuracy, control, recovery, and putting) not only unlocks new shot types but also allows you to upgrade your golfer’s attributes. Each attribute affects different aspects of your golfer’s performance, so it’s essential to find a balance that complements your playstyle.

Shot shaping

Shot shaping is an advanced technique that allows you to customize your shots further. Use the shot shaping stick to apply different shapes to your shots, like aiming higher or lower, and curving the ball left or right with draw and fade. Mastering shot shaping will enable you to maneuver the ball around obstacles, take advantage of course layouts, and adapt to varying wind conditions.

Level up your golfer and become the next golfing star!

EA Sports PGA Tour, as is to be expected, allows players to make their own custom golfer. This custom character can also be improved by leveling up and acquiring skills.

Not only does this improve gameplay, but it also allows you to customize your character to fit your preferred playstyle.

In this guide, we’ll show you how you can get Experience and Skill Points easily!

How to Get XP and Skill Points in EA Sports PGA Tour

The main way to get XP in the game is to complete the many many challenges . Challenges are a sort of sub-mission that require you complete specific scenarios

There are thousands of challenges, all of which provide many useful rewards such as XP. All of them have 3 different objectives of increasing difficulty.

Completing all of the objectives will earn you a 3-star ranking which grants the most rewards possible. You can retry challenges anytime you wish to attempt a better ranking.

The first Challenges you want to do are the PGA Coaching challenges. These start out with the very basics of golfing, basically acting as a tutorial. This makes them a quick and easy way to get XP early.

Completing a set of challenges will also allow you to claim extra rewards on top of what each challenge gives you. These are picked up from the Rewards section of the main menu.

For example, the reward for Shot Making Challenges will give you a whooping 30,000 experience! It will also give you some new equipment to use.

Once you get enough XP and level up your golfer, you will also earn Skill Points (SP).

How to Use Skill Points

SP can be used in the Golfer tab of the main menu. Here, you get to upgrade 5 different skill sets: Power, Driving, Approach, Short Game, and Putting.

Choose whichever ones best fit your playstyle and needs.

Don’t forget to spend your SP once you get them! You will get access to new shot types as you reach certain skill milestones.

That’s basically how you can get XP quickly and how to spend your SP. Make good use of this to power up your custom golfer and become a new golfing star in the MyCareer mode.

If you’re looking to help your approach game, or even sneak a handful of extra yards off the tee, then being able to spin the ball after you strike it may come in handy. So today, we’re going to walk you through how to spin the ball in EA Sports PGA Tour.

Spinning Your Shot in EA Sports PGA Tour

Depending on which platform your playing on, spinning your shot in EA Sports PGA Tour will differ slightly. However, aside from the natural spin of the ball, players can only spin their shot while the ball is in flight.

• PlayStation: X or L1
• PC: Print Screen Key (to control Spin Direction)

The post-shot spin is important for a handful of scenarios. For instance, your Tee Shot on a hole with a wide fairway is the perfect reason to test out your post-shot spin. Bonus points if that fairway includes a massive downhill slope. Other situations to utilize the spin feature may include an approach shot, or any sort of chip/pitch/flop on shots surrounding the green.

Make sure to only use the swing marker as a guide, as chip and pitch shots have the tendency to run hot no matter which club you use. Even still, you can change up the type of approach by scrolling to the Finesse or Runner option. Lastly, a flop shot generates the most natural spin pre-shot, so make sure to use it in situations that call for backspin.

Where to Use Your Skill Points

Another thing to keep in mind is that your post-shot spin will vary. We’ll get to that momentarily, though. Just make sure you’re not attempting to spin your shot until after you’ve completed your swing. While you can power boost your shot before making contact, you don’t want to risk a mishit while in the middle of your backswing.

Skill Points can be put into four different categories. And, you have complete control when it comes to building a pro of your liking. EA Sports PGA Tour Season 11 Adds New Courses, Golfer & More

EA Sports PGA Tour just received its biggest content update yet for Season 11, which adds four major courses, a legendary Golfer, and much more. All the new courses will be readily available to play in modes like Quick Play,Private Match, and in Online/Tournament playlist rotations. Furthermore, the newest season brought some new changes to Challenges Mode. Without further ado, let’s check out everything new with Season 11.

What’s New In PGA Tour Season 11?

EA Sports PGA Tour Season 11 adds legendary Golfer Jack Nicklaus, along with four new Major Courses:

• Valhalla Golf Course
• Pinehurst No. 2
• Royal Troon
• Augusta National Par 3 Course

Interestingly, Nicklaus designed the Valhalla Golf Course, located in Louisville, Kentucky. Overall, this course features wide fairways, several water hazards, and more. Furthermore, it hosted several major championships, like the upcoming 2024 PGA Championship. The developers updated Career mode to have the PGA Championship rotate every season between Valhalla, Southern Hills, and Oak Hill.

Secondly comes Pinehurst No. 2, designed by another legendary golfer, Donald Ross. Overall, this course hosted more single golf championships than any course in America. Furthermore, this course will host the 2024 U.S. Open, and will be added to the Career Mode rotation.

Thirdly, the developers added the Royal Troon. Overall, this course now joins The Open rotation, joining Royal Liverpool, and St Andrews. Lastly, the developers added the Augusta National Par 3 Course, which they announced last week. And, as mentioned previously, all four of these courses are available to play across a wide variety of modes.

Jack Nicklaus joins the game roster, increasing the roster size to 23 playable golfers. Known as the Golden Bear, Nicklaus won the Masters six times, which is the current record for any professional golfer. In-game, he comes with his own unique set of golf clubs, outfits, and swing animation. Play as one of the best to ever do it in any mode that lets you play as pro golfers.

Lastly, EA Sports updated Challenges Mode with two new series:

• Drive, Chip, and Putt – Allows player to compete in famous junior golf competition
• Jack Nicklaus – Follow some of the best rounds from Nicklaus’ Major Championship victories. Also includes other memorable moments from his career.

With a new season means a new Pro Pass. The Season 11 Pro Pass features a variety of cosmetic item. Earn tokens throughout the season and complete quests to earn items like new apparel or Nicklaus’ clubs.

Furthermore, EA Play Members will be glad to know that EA Sports PGA Tour is coming to the service via the Play List.

EA Sports also released new patch notes to improve the experience. Below is a general list of improvements:

• Jack Nicklaus’ swing animation has been added to the Store rotation.
• Added a “Starter Bundle” which includes a set of rare specs and a currency pack.
• New items added to the store rotation including the TaylorMade Qi10 Driver, Scotty Cameron Circle T putters, and several new apparel items.
• Increased matchmaking search timeout from 2 to 5 minutes.
• Updated the “In to Out” swing animation.
• Fixed “TaylorMade MySpider – Red” left-handed version of the putter being colored white instead of red.
• [Kiawah] Moved several shrubs and bunker footprint decals that were incorrectly placed.
• [Career] Fix to enable changing outfits in Career mode lobbies.
• [Select Golfer] Updated Patrick Cantlay’s picture.
• [Store] Updated thumbnail icons for “In to Out” and “Sweep” swing animations.
• Additional crash and stability-related fixes.

EA Sports PGA Tour Road to the Masters – the golf game presumed to make a strong comeback after being MIA for the last eight years. Speculations were that this title was meant to come in, use the latest tech, come up with new initiatives, and knock its competitors out of the park. So, did it exceed expectations?

Features such as the Puke Strike, Ball Behavior, the long list of Pros, exclusive golf courses, game modes, and more were all meant to set this one apart following its worldwide release on April 7. Adding pressure to the release of Road to the Masters was the brave decision to make the game exclusive to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, while excluding the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. From this, you have to ask… Did they accomplish what they set out to do by excluding other platforms?

With this review, Prima Games will discuss the gameplay, graphics, pros and cons, and more. EA Sports PGA Tour Gameplay has a few clean swings and missed hits. EA’s hit-and-miss involves the in-game experience, what to make of the user interface and many other factors. 

Let’s start with playing golf. 

Playing Golf

Yes, many out there feel the new swing mechanics of Road to the Masters left EA in the rough. However, I liked it more than I hated it and quickly became accustomed. With the developers ready to introduce the 3-Click Swing mechanics soon with their next major update, there’s an option for all, making the game more enticing.

The gameplay is fantastic if you enjoy being a professional athlete. However, the UI is lacking in-game, and there’s a need for more assistance and tutorials. Once your first tutorial’s done, you’re on your own. It’s like swinging closed eyes and hoping for the best. 

The same can be said for the grid and guide for putting. There should have been an added feature: darkened areas where there are huge slopes and lightened areas with less slope. It would help you fare better in the short game, and having this as a map addition in the game would have been nifty. It would help eliminate using the putting guide and assist all players in identifying slopes better — a quicker way to get accustomed to all of the courses, allowing you to work on your strengths and weaknesses.

The lack of assistance does, however, influence practicing more by doing all the game’s challenges. One has to admit, rehearsing shot after shot gets your game going which, in turn, is a tremendous positive for the game. If you’re fresh to golfing and any golfing simulator, the Coaching Academy in the Challenges game mode will be your best friend and where you need to head first.

To sum it all up, playing golf in EA Sports PGA Tour is not user-friendly, but you can master your craft quite quickly to swing like a pro.

Something to Celebrate and Something to Improve on

The main hub is clear, straightforward, and easy to navigate around. Despite some glitches that occurred because of bugs in the early days of its release, it was pretty easy to maneuver around — a great UI experience, hands down.

Upgrading Your Player in Road to the Masters

Probably the most straightforward upgrading system I’ve ever used. Plain and simple describes it best. The upgrading points could use some improvements, though. With only two points for levelling up, I’ll be 65 by the time I win the Master with a fully upgraded self-created Pro.

The biggest letdown is the editing and player creation. A high flop by the dev team here. Limited options, no face scan, and nothing new. For a team like EA, this is a department where they excel and usually deliver.

Apparel Equals Fire In EA Sports PGA Tour

Where there is an unquestionable shortage in one area, another area weighs in heavily and comes to save the day. The apparel in the game lifted my mood on the editing front, and honestly, all the options you have for equipment and clothing to choose from are fire.

A big ups to EA for including such an incredible catalogue of exclusive drip. Supposing you can’t play like a pro, at least you can dress up and look the part! 

Exclusive Courses In-Game

From Augusta National to Teeth of The Dog, the 30 courses in EA Sports PGA Tour are winners. The attention to detail of the grass, water, bunkers, and trees makes for a fantastic view. Playing in 4K certainly has its touch of realism in the PGA Tour.

For decades, we’ve seen EA triumph over their rivals in many, if not all, sports titles in one crucial area. That is, having all the licences and agreements for players, stadiums, courses, etc. Having the rights to the exclusive courses in Road to the Masters sets the bar high for all of their counterparts. It’s, again, a winning factor for them.

The courses will also make or break you, asking different questions and making each hit, stroke, drive, and putt a unique situation. Brilliant!

EA Sports PGA Tour Graphics

Other than a few moments where the ball is missing just before you swing, the audio playing at the wrong time, and other minor glitches with the fans and delay, the EA Sports PGA Tour graphics are phenomenal.

Playing Road to the Masters on PS5 has been a great experience and something I enjoyed, but only once I started getting used to the game’s mechanics. The massive downfall is the Pro players who look “similar” rather than like-for-like to their real-life figures. It’s not the end product just yet, and work needs to be done.

The cutscenes overview of the courses is the best way to admire the precise detail of all the golf courses and structures. The TrackMan data, Fluid Swing Mechanics, Ball Behavior, many Shot Types, and Course Dynamics all aid the graphics and make for a better and smoother golfing game experience.

Concluding Thoughts on EA Sports PGA Tour

With this one, if I were to sum up EA Sports PGA Road to the Masters into one analogy, I would say: If this were an 18-hole round of golf, EA got an excellent few birders, one or two eagles, but there were undoubtedly bogeys. 

Was the comeback strong? Yes, It indeed was. The Pure Striker, Flued Swing Mechanics, and Ball Behavior make for a real-life golf experience. The courses are fantastic to play on, and their abundance in the game makes for a timeless title. The online modes make the game even more timeless, something many are happy about, not just me. Without it, golf can be a lonely place.

“ You restart, restart, restart, you get a bogey, you’re disappointed with yourself, and you restart again. You make a top, top shot; you‘re running around the house celebrating and thanking the crowd for their support. “

Though, much work must be done on making the title more story-driven and following something like FIFA when you play as Alex Hunter, the fictional character, on a journey to become a professional footballer. Or when you sit in on negotiations during transfers. These ideas could be implemented into the game for a more simulated experience, maybe by separating this from Career Mode and giving it its own title: Story Mode.

It’s Just Straight-Up Golfing

This is where EA Sports PGA Tour does excel over its counterparts. The swinging, response to the joystick, bounce of the ball, how you can manipulate the shot, the many shot types, immersion, everything seems to be in tuned and seamless. That alone sanctifies a strong comeback for EA into the golfing gaming world. 

Believe it or not, the game has an alluring feel about it. You want to get all the stars in each challenge. You restart, restart, restart, you get a bogey, you’re disappointed with yourself, and you restart again. You make a top, top shot; you‘re running around the house celebrating and thanking the crowd for their support. You consider your strategy every step of the way. It is all definitely “ In the Game!” in this one.

If you’re into sports games that allow you to live the thrills, chills, disappointment and excitement of a professional sportsman, I highly recommend this game. If you’re an action-packed junky that enjoys end-to-end action, this game is way too quiet and passive for you. The true meaning of the gentleman’s game comes to mind when playing EA Sports PGA Tour Road to the Masters.

EA has announced a major update to EA SPORTS PGA TOUR as the game celebrates a year since release. The game has seen many updates since its launch as it is now entering Season 11, and this will be the largest content update to date. The update is available today and along with new content, will see several gameplay improvements and bug fixes. With The Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia just about a week away, the update is headlined by the inclusion of Augusta National Par 3. The traditional Par 3 Contest that is held annually on the eve of the tournament is now playable in EA SPORTS PGA TOUR.

The Biggest Name

EA SPORTS PGA TOUR will be adding a 23rd playable professional golfer and it's a big name. Jack Nicklaus is being added to the roster and no additional purchase is required. "The Golden Bear" is known for powerful drives, precision iron play and excellent putting skills. Nicklaus nabbed 18 major championship wins and won The Masters a record six times. Nicklaus will also have his own set of golf clubs, four outfits and a unique swing animation. He's playable in any format that supports playing with pro golfers.

2024 major courses.

On top of Augusta National Par 3, there will be three new PGA Major Courses added to the game that are pulled from 2024. The first is Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky as it hosts the 2024 PGA Championship. Career Mode will reflect this now as it will rotate between this, Oak Hill and Southern Hills every season. Pinehurst No. 2 is also being added as it hosts the 2024 U.S. Open as it will also rotate every season with this, the Los Angeles Country Club and The Country Club. The final addition is Royal Troon, which is famous for its "Postage Stamp" eighth hole. The Open Championship will now rotate with this, Royal Liverpool and St Andrews.

• Added a “Starter Bundle” which includes a set of rare specs and a currency pack.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider , Eidos-Montréal’s 2018 sequel to Rise of the Tomb Raider , headlines Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass lineup in April. It’s backed by a solid, well-rounded lineup including the likes of Botany Manor , Lil Gator Game , Superhot: Mind Control Delete , Lego 2K Drive , and EA Sports PGA Tour . There’s a little something for everyone!

Tomb Raider classics Tomb Raider , Tomb Raider 2 , and Tomb Raider 3 were remastered in February as Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered , and a new entry in the franchise started development in 2022 — no word on a release timeline there. If you’ve got the itch to play more Tomb Raider after playing the remastered originals, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a perfect option for your next adventure. But if you’re not up for Tomb Raider, there’s plenty more. Want something cute? Try Lil Gator Game. A unique shooter? That’s Superhot: Mind Control Delete .

Coming to the ea play list: discover new courses, play as jack nicklaus, and take on the augusta national par 3 course..

On April 2nd, EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR™ will receive an update that includes a new season, several gameplay improvements, and game-wide bug fixes. Read on to learn about what’s coming next.

Welcome to Season 11!

Season 11 launches as the largest content update to date for EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR™ with the release of four new courses and the ultimate Major champion of all time, Jack Nicklaus joins as the first playable golfer added since the game's launch. Moreover, starting April 4th, EA Play^ members can enjoy the EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR™ updates available via the Play List. As with all previous updates, the new courses and Jack Nicklaus are included with no additional purchase required. This now makes a total of 39 playable courses and 23 playable pro golfers.

Included as a 2024 Major Course, Valhalla Golf Course is located in Louisville, Kentucky, a modern, parkland-style course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Characterized by its wide fairways, large, undulating greens, and challenging water hazards, it has been the venue for multiple major championships, including the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup. Since it hosts the 2024 PGA Championship, Career mode has been updated to have the PGA Championship rotate every season between Valhalla, Oak Hill, and Southern Hills.

Pinehurst No. 2, the second 2024 Major Course to debut, is located in North Carolina and is a world-renowned golf course known for its crowned, undulating greens and strategically placed bunkers. Designed by the legendary Donald Ross, it has hosted more single golf championships, including the U.S. Open Championship and PGA Championship, than any other course in America. It will host the 2024 U.S. Open Championship, so Career mode has been updated to rotate the U.S. Open every season between Pinehurst No. 2, The Los Angeles Country Club, and The Country Club.

The third 2024 Major Course, renowned for its "Postage Stamp" eighth hole, is Royal Troon. Known as a world-class course, with traditional links located on the rugged coast of Scotland. Offering golfers challenging wind conditions, deep bunkers, large putting greens, and undulating fairways, Royal Troon is a frequent stop in the Open Championship rota, including this year. The Open will now rotate in Career mode between Royal Troon, Royal Liverpool, and St Andrews.

Further celebrating the tradition of Masters week, the Augusta National Par 3 Course will also be added to the game. The course is stunningly beautiful and serves as the traditional venue for the Par 3 Contest held annually on the eve of the Masters Tournament.

All four of these incredible courses are now available to play in Quick Play and Private Match and will be featured in Online and Tournament playlist rotations as well. As previous Ryder Cup hosts, Pinehurst No. 2 and Valhalla have also been added to Ryder Cup formats in Quick Play, Online, and Private Match.

Jack Nicklaus, often referred to as “the Golden Bear," is renowned for his powerful drives, precision iron play, and exceptional putting ability, which contributed to his record 18 major championship wins. Nicklaus's six Masters titles add to his legendary status as the greatest Major Champion golfer of all time. When playing as Jack Nicklaus, you’ll notice that he has his own set of golf clubs, four outfits to choose from, and his unique swing animation. Jack Nicklaus is available to play in any format that supports playing with pro golfers.

Season 11 Pro Pass** includes a wide variety of cosmetics in the premium tier including a selection of spring-themed apparel, Jack Nicklaus’ clubs, and one of his outfits. Completing Season 11 Pro Pass will earn you Jack Nicklaus’ '65 Masters Ball Spec in the free tier and the J.LINDEBERG “KV Tour - Azalea” outfit in the premium tier. Throughout the season you’ll earn tokens to level up your Pro Pass by completing live Quests and playing rounds in Online, Tournaments, and Career modes.

Challenges mode has been updated with two new challenge series. The “Drive Chip and Putt” challenges series offers a taste of what it feels like to compete in the famous junior golf competition. The “Jack Nicklaus” challenge series showcases the history of the Golden Bear, featuring some of the best rounds from his Major Championship victories, and a variety of other memorable moments from his legendary career.
