The Eagles announce ‘Long Goodbye’ farewell tour: ‘This is our swan song’

The Eagles have taken it to the limit.

The legendary rock group has announced its final tour, dubbed “The Long Goodbye.”

“We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful,” the band said in a statement . “Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle. The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages. We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round.”

Thirteen shows have initially been announced, with more to come.

“During ‘The Long Goodbye,’ the Eagles — Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey — will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands. The tour is expected to continue into 2025,” a press release for the tour said.

The Eagles plan to give their fans one final thrill in their last tour.

The band says “the difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights” may result in returning to select cities for additional dates, if the interest is there.

“Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music,” the group said. “At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

The Eagles are one of music's most enduring acts. Formed in 1971, they have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide and won six Grammy Awards, and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Eagles Join Parade of Acts on Final Tours With a ‘Long Goodbye’

The band, which performed a “farewell” tour in 2003, will begin what’s billed as a last run of dates in September.

Five men stand in a line onstage in front of a drum set and other instruments with their arms around each other, as though saying goodbye at the end of a concert.

Eagles are touring for the last time. Again.

The band, whose country-tinged rock hits in the 1970s like “Hotel California” and “Life in the Fast Lane” made it one of the biggest-selling acts of all time, announced the Long Goodbye on Thursday, booked as the group’s final tour.

The tour — featuring the core Eagles members Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, along with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey (whose father was Glenn Frey, an original Eagle) — is set to open at Madison Square Garden on Sept. 7. That is the first of an initial batch of 13 dates mostly on the East Coast through Nov. 17, with Steely Dan as the opening act. In a statement, the Eagles floated the possibility of longer runs at each venue, saying they would “perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands.” The tour is expected to continue into 2025.

As longtime Eagles fans know, this is not the first time the band has signaled a sunset run. Back in 2003, it embarked on a tour called Farewell I . But there is good reason to believe they may be nearing the end. Glenn Frey, one of the group’s founding members, died in 2016 . Henley, the only member from its founding in 1971 who is still in the band, is 75; in an appearance before a Congressional committee in 2020 about copyright law, he said he was “in the final chapter of my career.” (Or maybe not. Bob Dylan, who is 82, is on a tour planned into 2024 , and the 86-year-old blues guitar hero Buddy Guy is on his own goodbye outing.)

Farewell tours have a way of winding on for years, and can be huge moneymakers. Kiss did its first in 2000 and has had more than a dozen tours since then; its End of the Road Tour started in 2019 and has dates booked through December. Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour began in 2018 and is set to finally conclude this weekend in Sweden, with at least $910 million in ticket sales, according to Billboard.

Among others now on their self-described final tours are Aerosmith, Foreigner, the punk band NOFX and Dead & Company, featuring original members of the Grateful Dead with John Mayer.

The Eagles are ready to fly one last time, soaring for a farewell tour this fall to cap off their five decades of touring.

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” the “Hotel California” and “Desperado” hitmakers said in a Thursday statement .

“We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful. Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle.”

The Los Angeles-formed rock band — eternally associated with the Southern California country-rock sound — will launch their Long Goodbye tour in New York’s Madison Square Garden on Sept. 7, announcing 12 additional dates Thursday with the possibility of more to come. However, no California dates have yet been announced.

“The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages. We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round. So, scheduling information will be released as dates are set,” said the band, whose current lineup includes drummer and vocalist Don Henley, famed guitarist Joe Walsh, bassist Timothy B. Schmit and guitarist Vince Gill. Gill joined the band after founding member and guitarist Glenn Frey died at 67 in 2016 . (Frey’s son Deacon also played with the band for nearly five years before announcing his departure in 2022 .)

“The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand. But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up,” they said. “Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

The six-time Grammy Award-winning group and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will be joined by contemporary act Steely Dan, whose members will be commemorating their own half-century spanning career as well.

The bands have scheduled shows through mid-November in Boston, Newark, Denver, Indianapolis, Detroit, Cleveland, Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C., Lexington, Ky., and St. Paul, Minn. The Long Goodbye tour follows their recently expanded Hotel California tour , named for their landmark 1976 album that they played in its entirety during the tour, which wrapped in Baltimore in April.

Presale tickets and VIP packages for the Long Goodbye will be made available July 12 for all announced shows. General on-sale begins July 14.

The Eagles Announce 'The Long Goodbye' Final Tour: 'The Time Has Come to Close the Circle'

The band's last ever tour begins on Sept. 7 in New York City

The Eagles are soaring one final time!

On Thursday, the band announced that after more than 50 years of touring and 150 million albums sold worldwide, their upcoming “The Long Goodbye” tour will be their last.

“Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle. The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages,” the band said in an emotional statement.

Courtesy of The Eagles and Live Nation

"The Long Goodbye" tour will feature Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill and Deacon Frey — son of the late Glenn Frey , one of the founding members of the band — and begins on Sept. 7, 2023, in New York City.

The band said they hoped to see as many fans as possible on the final tour and announced 13 initial dates across America, along with support act Steely Dan .

Never miss a story — sign up for  PEOPLE's free weekly newsletter  to get the biggest news of the week delivered to your inbox every Friday.

In their announcement, the band also noted the long, and at times challenging, journey since they formed in 1972.

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” they said, adding thanks to their management team, road crew and backup musicians.

Deacon, 30, rejoins The Eagles for the final tour after it was announced last year that he was leaving the band after 4 and a half years to “forge his own path.” He initially joined the band in 2017 after his father Glenn died in 2016 at 67 years old.

During an illustrious career spanning more than five decades and six No. 1 albums, the band's 1976 album “Hotel California” and its eponymous title track remain their most well-known and well-loved music. “Every band has a peak, and that was ours,” drummer and vocalist Henley told Rolling Stone in 2016 .

Despite winning two Grammy awards, being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and receiving the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016, the band made it clear that, for them, it’s all about the fans.

“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades," they said in their release.

“This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”  Presale tickets and VIP packages for 'The Long Goodbye' are available from July 12 for all announced shows. General ticket sales open Friday, July 14 at 10 a.m.

The Eagles Long Goodbye: See the setlist for the legendary rock band's final tour

eagles farewell i tour

It will be a long goodbye for the Eagles, who announced their final tour in July and vow to stay on the road through 2025 - or until they hit every market that might welcome them, sometimes more than once.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers kicked off their farewell at New York's Madison Square Garden Sept. 7 with a 23-song setlist that spotlights their myriad hits – "Take it Easy," "Witchy Woman," "Tequila Sunrise," "Life in the Fast Lane" and of course, "Hotel California" among them – and also paid tribute to "dear friend" Jimmy Buffett, who died Sept. 1 , and original Eagles bassist Randy Meisner, who died in July.

As on past tours, the core of Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh are joined by upper-register maestro Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, son of the late Eagles legend Glenn Frey. The additional four musicians backing the Eagles augment an already pristine sound for this two-hour hits parade.

Here is a look at the songs being performed on the Eagles' Long Goodbye tour.

The Eagles are saying a lot of farewells on their Long Goodbye Final Tour — not just to life on the road, but also to the countless friends they’ve lost along the way.

Eagles Add 6 More Dates to The Long Goodbye Tour: Here’s How to Score Tickets

Trending on billboard.

Throughout their 21-song set, the Eagles sprinkled in tributes to peers they’ve lost, including bandmates Glenn Frey and Randy Meisner. Of course, Frey died back in 2016, and his son Deacon Frey, now 31, has been filling in for his late dad (alongside Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill) in the band since their Classic West performance at Dodger Stadium in 2017 . Founding member Meisner — who left the band after 1976’s Hotel California album — died this past summer , so this is the band’s first tour since.

“We’re going to dedicate this to the memory of Mr. Randy Meisner,” Henley said to introduce “Take It to the Limit,” which was the band’s only single to feature the bassist on lead vocals and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976 and spent 23 weeks on the chart — their longest-charting hit on the tally. “Sing it with him,” Henley implored, as Gill took over on Meisner’s sky-high vocals.

Frey tributes were sprinkled throughout the night — basically any time Deacon and Gill took the lead on his signature songs — and after the mellow “Peaceful Easy Feeling” wrapped up, Glenn’s picture appeared on the big screen.

Steely Dan served as the opening act, doing a robust 12-song set and remembering some friends of their own, with lead singer Donald Fagen making sure to shout out his band co-founder Walter Becker, who died in 2017 .

The Long Goodbye Final Tour picks back up Tuesday at Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs, Calif., and wraps up March 16 at Charlotte, N.C.’s Spectrum Center.

Eagles’ Long Goodbye Final Tour setlist for Friday, Jan. 12:

The Eagles have announced they will be embarking on an “official farewell tour”, rounding out a “miraculous 52-year odyssey”.

With five No 1 singles, six No 1 albums, and six Grammy Awards, the five-piece rock band, formed in 1971, are considered one of the most successful and longest-running acts in popular music history.

Now, after having performed over a thousand concerts during a career spanning more than five-decades, the “Hotel California” rockers – Dan Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey – will embark on their “swan song”.

“The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages. We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round. So, scheduling information will be released as dates are set. The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand. But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up,” the group said in a Thursday (7 July) statement, shared with Variety .

“Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

Eagles veteran after Haason Reddick trade: ‘Feeling good’

  • Cayden Steele | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

Eagles edge rusher Brandon Graham believes his teammates are prepared to replace Haason Reddick’s production.

After trading Reddick to the New York Jets last month, the Eagles’ pass rush group is unproven and a few players will have to step up next year. In two weeks, general manager Howie Roseman could also draft a pass rusher in the first two rounds.

BUY EAGLES TICKETS: STUBHUB , VIVID SEATS , TICKETMASTER

Graham is confident everything will work out.

‘I’m feeling good because we still haven’t done the draft yet,” Graham told Ross Tucker on Wednesday . “Losing a player like Haason, we definitely have to count on Nolan (Smith) to make that leap for next year…. Bryce Huff , Sweaty (Josh Sweat ), them guys, man, I’m excited. Including myself, just helping them boys take it to the next level.

“I think Howie going definitely do something in the draft. But I like what we got right now.”

Graham told reporters last season that the 2024 season will be his “farewell tour.” In the past two seasons, his role significantly diminished and the production is starting to dip.

But after center Jason Kelce and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox both retired this offseason, it’s important that Graham’s veteran leadership is still around.

Graham can help the young defensive lineman grow into leadership roles and contribute as a rotational pass rusher. In 2023, he only finished with three sacks and 16 tackles.

In his 15th season, Graham will try to get a few more sacks and will certainly trash talk opponents.

Sublime Jakob Nowell

Sublime brought the LBC to Indio on Saturday as Bradley Nowell’s son, Jakob Nowell, united with original band members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson for a sun-soaked Coachella set.

Jakob Nowell carries on the legacy of Sublime 28 years after Bradley’s death in 1996. Coincidentally, Nowell, 28, is currently the same age as his father when he passed.

On top of all that, Jakob played his dad’s custom guitar and Mesa Boogie amp, while drummer Gaugh sat behind his signature green kit. Saturday’s Coachella set marked the first time the green drum kit and Bradley’s guitar were on the same stage since the last Sublime tour in 1996.

Popular on Variety

After Bradley Nowell’s death, Sublime members Gaugh and Wilson teamed up with singer Rome Ramirez to form Sublime With Rome, an offshoot band that would go on to tour for more than a decade. (Sublime With Rome announced its farewell tour this summer, with none of the original members of Sublime participating.) Gaugh left the group in December 2011 and was replaced by Josh Freese. The group underwent a few other lineup changes throughout the years, and in February 2024 Wilson announced on Instagram he would no longer be performing with Sublime With Rome — only the new Sublime with Jakob Nowell.

Aerosmith announces rescheduled Knoxville concert date for ‘Peace Out’ farewell tour

A s promised, Aerosmith has rescheduled postponed tour dates for their “Peace Out” farewell tour, including a performance in Knoxville.

The Aerosmith concert at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center will be held Oct. 5, the venue announced .

All previously purchased tickets will be honored and ticketholders will receive more info via email. Any remaining tickets go on sale 10 a.m. April 12 on ticketmaster.com .

The rescheduled “Peace Out” tour is set to kick off Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. More tour information is available at aerosmith.com .

Why has the Knoxville Aerosmith show been rescheduled to Oct. 5?

Aerosmith was initially scheduled to perform at Food City Center in January after kicking off the the “Peace Out” last fall. However, all tour dates were posted postponed in September because of lead singer Steven Tyler’s severe vocal injury.

“Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx, which requires ongoing care,” the band said in a statement.

“I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!” Tyler added.

Founded more than 50 years ago in Boston, Massachusetts, Aerosmith has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, according to the band’s global brand management agency.

Aerosmith played Knoxville as far back as an October 1975 Knoxville Civic Coliseum show. In December 2003, the band was double-billed alongside KISS at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Aerosmith returns to Philly for their farewell tour… again

Aerosmith announced their farewell "peace out" tour last year, but the legendary band is coming to philly one more time (we think), by samuel o'neal • published april 10, 2024 • updated on april 10, 2024 at 12:38 pm.

A year after coming to the Wells Fargo Center for their farewell "Peace Out" tour, Aerosmith is coming back to Philadelphia one more time. (we think?)

Aerosmith announced on Wednesday that the tour would continue into 2024, with the legendary band returning to Philadelphia on Monday, Sept. 23 with special guest The Black Crowes.

The tour will begin in Pittsburgh on Sept. 20 and conclude on Feb. 26, 2025 in Buffalo, New York. The band will also play in Newark, New Jersey, on Dec. 28 and New York City on Feb. 23, 2025.

When they announced the farewell tour last year, the band admitted the tour could be extended. They didn't say for sure if each show would be the last in a respected city, and hinted at the possibility of a prolonged farewell event.

Get Philly local news, weather forecasts, sports and entertainment stories to your inbox. Sign up for NBC Philadelphia newsletters.

"It's the final farewell tour, but I have a feeling it will go on for a while," said frontman Steven Tyler last year. "But I don't know how many times we'll be coming back to the same cities. It could very possibly be the last time."

Every member of the band is over 70 years old, so the tour's extension will likely be its last. But there's no way to know for sure.

Aerosmith, which formed in 1970, has collected four Grammys. The band broke boundaries intersecting rock and hip-hop with their epic collaboration with Run DMC for "Walk This Way."

Aerosmith performed the Super Bowl halftime show in 2001 and even had their own theme park attraction in 1999 at Disney World and later in Paris with the launch of the 'Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith" ride.

Every night of the tour will pay homage to the five decades of Aerosmith's biggest hits. Tickets for newly added shows will go on sale Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster.

The tour will also offer a variety of VIP packages and experiences for fans. Packages vary but include a premium reserved ticket, limited edition merchandise and more.
