KBS' "Music Bank" to Host a World Tour?

Earlier this month KBS ’ “ Music Bank ” held a special broadcast from Tokyo, Japan .  “ Music Bank in Tokyo- K-Pop Festiva l” proved to be successful as various popular Korean acts (as BEAST , Kara , 2PM , RaNia , X-5 , 4 Minute , U-Kiss , Infinite , just to name a few) performed for the crowd of over 43,000 at the Tokyo Dome .  Could this mark the start of something really big?  How big?  Try on a world scale.  Yesterday the announcement was made by KBS director Jeon Jin Gook that plans were in motion to hold a “Music Bank” world tour bringing Korea’s top artists and popular culture to other countries across the globe.

The time frame and location for some of the stops on KBS’ radar, for what are being described as huge, K-Pop concerts, will be sometime in October in New York City, they are aiming for China in November, and hope soon after to move to Vietnam as well as Europe.  The director of KBS also mentioned that next year will be the 20 th anniversary of foreign relations between Vietnam and Korea, as the concert that will be held in Vietnam will be part of the celebrations festivities.

Lately through fan campaigns and flash mobs Europe has shown their desire for K-Pop as the interest for it continues to spread throughout the continent.  Reports state that there are many people who want Korean singers to perform in their countries across Europe.  With KBS’ plan they will finally be able to grant the public’s wishes as they will make the concerts conceivable.

Music Bank has been playing a major part in the Hallyu Wave as they recently have brought their broadcast number up to 70 countries.

At this time there is no word on which acts will be participating in the world tour.  Soompi will keep you updated as soon as that information is revealed!  What acts would you like to see perform at the world tour concerts?  Where else would you like the concert to stop?  Are there any acts that you would travel to see?

KBS Tour FLT Shafts Review

As one of the major players in the steel iron shaft category, KBS has continued to really evolve and expand their offerings in recent years to offer something for everyone. This year we are seeing them finally make the foray into a different shaft design with the KBS Tour FLT which they believe will fit the needs of a significantly large segment of golfers.

THP was able to spend time with the new Tour FLT shafts in three different flexes (S, S+, X) for this review in order to more thoroughly see their traits in a real-world setting.

Advanced shaft technology is a result of countless progressions in development and its applications. KBS Golf Shafts is committed to these practices and testing, while utilizing feedback from Master Club Fitters and conducting extensive rounds of testing with Players of all skill levels. The KBS TOUR FLT is a Tour influenced shaft to fit the broadest range of players, from the Amateur Golfer, to a Tour Professional. 

Offering a lower ball flight for the 8 Iron and down clubs, and a higher ball flight for the 6 Iron and up, it accomplishes this while being longer and providing more spin, with the consistency and efficiency of more control. KBS TOUR FLT will also features the standard to which KBS is known, providing maximum energy transfer to ensure a smooth, stronger feel through impact and are proven to produce a more piercing trajectory, tighter dispersion and increased ball control. What does FLT Mean?

What exactly is a FLT shaft? The fact is, most golfers tend to struggle with elevating their longer irons to the point that they may not be feasible choices to hit into, and hold, greens. Additionally, those same golfers often tend to hit their scoring irons bordering on too high which can at times lead to diminishing returns. As we well know both of those things are swing related and there are a plethora of swing traits which can lead to such issues. With that said though, something can definitely still be done through shaft design, and that is what the FLT setup aims to do. Simply put, higher in the long irons (6i and up) and lower/flatter in the scoring irons (8i and down).

Performance Breakdown

Right out of the gates, the decision to create the FLT shaft design based around the KBS Tour profile proved performance wise to be a very smart decision. First off, KBS is the company that showed the shaft industry that feel can-be/is a very real thing in steel shafts just as it is with graphite, and the KBS feel is completely present with these shafts. Through the swing there is a very familiar feeling for those who have spent some time with the original KBS Tour’s.  In terms of stability there was no accentuated kick in the long irons which one might expect when you hear “higher launching” and at the same time the “lower” (flatter) flying short irons also do not give any feeling of over-rigidity. Although they perform different than the standard Tour shafts, people should not be concerned about the feel being different.

When it comes to speaking on distance and spin that is clearly a tough topic with iron shafts (and shafts of any type) because it is extremely subjective to not only the users swing but also the head in which the shaft has been installed. For this review the KBS Tour FLT shafts were installed in what definitely qualify as “lower spinning” heads and the performance matched up right in line with what the company claims. Compared to non FLT options in the same heads the flight was increased in the longer irons in both launch and peak height which resulted in added distance for this reviewer but also the added ability to hold greens, and in the shorter irons the flight was much flatter and more easily manipulated. As a player who tends to need what FLT designs offer, it was really nice to see it all come to fruition, particularly in a shaft of this weight class.

Parting Thoughts

In all, these are something that KBS needed to really help round out their offerings, although upon their initial announcement one couldn’t help but wonder where they fit in the lineup. The truth of it all is that with a more mid spin profile and variable launch design, they literally fit right in the middle and could definitely be a very viable performer for a massive segment of golfers.

AMSTERDAM (AP) — Decked in the national orange color, dancing to music, and eating orange-glazed pastries, many in the Netherlands Saturday are marking King’s Day , celebrating the birthday of their monarch who is enjoying a very slight rise in popularity as per a national poll.

As King Willem-Alexander celebrated his 57th birthday with his family in the northeastern city of Emmen, people across the country engaged in the traditional “free markets” held on that day, selling second-hand toys, books and other items. Others toured through the historic canals of the capital, Amsterdam as orange smoke from flares held aloft one boat drifted over vessels of all shapes and sizes jostling for space on a busy canal.

“Celebrating your birthday with your own family is the most beautiful thing you can experience. I’m very happy everybody is back,” Willem-Alexander told Dutch broadcaster NOS during a walkabout in Emmen, 190 kilometers (120 miles) northeast of the Dutch capital.

An annual poll published by the NOS for King’s Day showed Willem-Alexander’s popularity edging up very slightly since last year to 6.6 out of 10. His Argentine-born wife, Queen Maxima, scored 7.1 out of 10 in the poll of 1,015 people, conducted earlier this month.

The royals’ popularity took a hit during the COVID-19 pandemic after Willem-Alexander and his family went on vacation in Greece during a partial lockdown. The royals cut short their break amid national uproar and Willem-Alexander took the unusual step of issuing a video message to express his regret and contrition for the trip.

The king’s three daughters, Amalia, Alexia and Ariane have all spent time out of the country recently — Ariane has been studying in Italy while Alexia has taken a gap year to travel. The eldest and heir to the Dutch throne, Amalia, also returned ahead of the king’s birthday after being forced to leave her student accommodation in Amsterdam and move to Madrid following threats from the criminal underworld.

Amalia, 20, who is studying politics, psychology, law and economics at Amsterdam University, told NOS she was “extremely grateful to everybody who made it possible” for her to live in Spain, where she said she was able to enjoy more freedom than in the Netherlands.

But, she added: “I’m glad to be back.”
