An Interview With Roger Gooch, CEO At Freedom Cruise Line International

freedom cruise line international

Freedom Cruise Line International, Inc. is the development entity for Freedom Ship-City at Sea. The company’s primary mission to develop and construct the first mobile City at Sea in history and is so doing the largest vessel in the world. Below is our recent interview with Roger Gooch , CEO at Freedom Cruise Line International, Inc. :

Q: How did your company come into being? Where did the idea come from?

A: The City at Sea concept was derived from a idea initially borne by a deceased engineer from Florida over 2 decades ago.

freedom cruise line international

Q: What are the primary objectives of your project?

A: “Freedom Ship” is a proposed multi billion dollar endeavor to construct a “floating city”; 1500 meters in length, nearly 250 meters wide and more than 100 meters tall. Employing some 20,000 + people full-time; Freedom Ship will be the largest sea going vessel with 25,000 units of residential and commercial occupancies that will primarily consist of:

a. 20,000 habitational condominiums including 2400 time share units of various configurations and pricing b. 3,000 commercial units for businesses,etal- (including retail space, offices and corporate & medical occupancies c. 2,000 units for a Hotel in addition to a world class Casino operation. d. A full service Marina astern to avail inhabitants and visitors hourly ferry-land services along with a helipad facility on top of Freedom Ship to service both commercial, civilian and medical evacuation needs. A seaplane base is being contemplated as well.

A brief synopsis of what we anticipate Freedom Ship may offer the global marketplace follows:

a) While docking offshore near 6 of the seven continents, Freedom will provide endless international exposure to the world’s population via the visitation to a vast number of seaports along its two + year circumnavigation journey. Visiting these shores and ports, Freedom will potentially attract thousands of visitors daily to its hotel, casino and other onboard amenities- i.e.(duty free shopping, dining, shows, medical facilities and attractions, etc.).

b) Freedom Ship is expected to attract an international cadre of onboard residents & occupants that will enjoy numerous onboard amenities and activities. A state of the art hospital including medical research facilities as well as a school system through college will be onboard as well.

c) Freedom Ship may also serve in various sea activities that may entail resupplying, ferry operations, maintenance, rescue, salvage, and oceanographic research as well as philanthropic and global environmental clean up endeavors.

freedom cruise line international

Q: Can you give us insights into your design features?

A: Design features of Freedom Ship will avail maritime suppliers the unique opportunity to “showcase” their state of the art products and services to the world as the first “City at Sea”circumnavigates the globe. The Freedom Ship will truly be a “City at Sea”. Along with the 20,000 permanent residences, the ship will have all the amenities of a modern urban city. From water purification to waste treatment and power generation, the ship will feature and showcase evolving “ green technology” to the world. Power will be supplied from modern wind turbines as well as solar generation to supplement fuel efficient fossil fuel/LNG engines. Sanitary sewerage waste will be incinerated in electric towers, thus eliminating the need for traditional wastewater treatment. Grey water will be recycled/purified into drinking water to supplement the on board desalination system. By employing the most up to date green technology, we hope to provide the inhabitants a continuous, clean source of energy at an affordable cost with a minimal carbon footprint.

Q: What are some of your main objectives in 2020 and how do you plan to achieve them?

A: Freedom Ship News forthcoming in 2020! We are pleased to announce that Freedom Ship’s Board of Directors have determined that primary construction operations will commence in Indonesia and Singapore. Design processes are currently underway and live real time construction operations are planned to be provided to the global audience via on site 24/7 webcams. In addition, FCL is currently open to dialogue with all interested parties or entities relative to either stock equity investments and or joint venture relationships as well.

Freedom Ship, a super platform floating city

Envision the idealize place for living and running a business. Envision friendly society where you are feeling safe and secured. Envision open space and appealing entertainments. And, at last, imagine all this moving all around the world continually. All this lies in the conception of the Freedom Ship, a project not only for building the greatest vessel in the world, but for creating a unique mobile community. The Freedom ship will provide cosmopolitan, worldwide, residential, full-spectrum, resort city which will travel the world once every 3 years. There will be opportunities for daily living, traveling and even owning a business.

The initial proposal for this amazing project came in the late 90s by Norman Nixon, engineer from Arkansas and Freedom Ship International company founder. When a search of natural and manmade islands failed to turn up a suitable alternate location to East Caicos, one of Freedom city’s original backers suggested building an island that could visit different countries each month. Strange as this suggestion seemed, it was something Nixon had actually done before. During the 1980s, he was part of a team of engineers who built a $1 billion modular ethylene plant in Japan and then towed it as more than 100 modules to Saudi Arabia, where it was reassembled. Encouraged by Nixon’s hands-on experience in seagoing modular construction -and the fact that he has licenses to practice structural, electrical, sanitary, and civil engineering- his early supporters elected to follow his dream to sea. “And so,” he says, “the Freedom Ship project was born.”

The design team responsible for launching this project points out that this is not a just a city on a boat, but a “super platform.” Freedom Ship has been visualized as a self-contained vessel with ultra-luxurious amenities. The 20+ story superstructure will be nearly a mile long (4,320ft), 725ft wide and 340ft tall and be will equipped with all of the features that any modern city might have, including a $200 million hospital with a first rate medical facility practicing Western and Eastern medicine, 10,000 hotel units, a world class casino, a ferryboat transportation system (provides departures every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, to 3 or more local cities giving ship residents access to the local neighborhood and up to 30,000 land-based residents a chance to spend a day on the ship), a school system offering K-12 and college education that gives the students a chance to take a field trip into a different country each week for academic purposes or to compete with local schools in numerous sporting events, an International Trade Center that gives on-board companies and shops the opportunity to show and sell their products in a different country each week, a 3,800-foot (1,158-m) landing strip which will serve private planes and some small commercial aircraft that carry no more than 40 passengers, hangars for private aircraft, a marina for residents’ yachts, one of the world’s largest shopping malls, a golf driving range, bicycle paths and 200 open acres for recreation of outdoor park, recreation, exercise and community space for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. Just like a big city, Freedom Ship will have a security force onboard that will patrol the ship at all times and the ship’s entire crew will receive security training as well. An electronic security system will be installed to offer further protection to residents. In addition to all these benefits, Freedom Ship will also be environmentally friendly, according to its developers. There will be no sewage treatment plant and no sewage to spill. The ship will use incinerator toilets, which cost about $3,000 apiece, to burn all sewage. The ashes will be put in the flower beds. Waste oil will be burned in an exhaust steam plant to generate electricity, instead of being dumped in the ocean. All used glass, paper and metal will be recycled and sold. Freedom Ship International estimates that each resident will produce 80 percent less waste on the ship than at his or her current home on land.

freedom cruise line international

It will take a tremendous amount of engine power to push the gigantic ship through the water. The vessel will be equipped with 100 diesel engines that can generate 3,700 horsepower each. Developers project the cost of each engine to be about $1 million. That may give an idea of how expensive the project is, although the total cost of Freedom Ship has not officially been released but for a vessel that promises to offer so many feasibilities, it is estimated that the construction cost of the Freedom Ship could total to over US$ 11 billion. The ship’s high construction cost will be passed on to residents. People who want to live on board can purchase their homes for prices which range from $150,000 for a small unit to $40m for something larger. There will be 20,000 residential units and in total and developers are being encouraged to pre-purchase space and sell it on in the same way as their real estate counterparts do on dry land.

Freedom Ship will be home to more than 60,000 people, including residents and all of the personnel that will be required to maintain the ship. The floating city will continuously circle the world and will travel to most of Earth’s coastal regions, offering residents the ability to see the entire globe without leaving their home. All the ship’s employees will be given food, housing, uniforms, medical and dental care, and a continuing education program. Application forms for workers on either the construction or staff of the ship when it is finally launched have been placed on the internet and talks are under way with the Nova Southwestern University to ensure that an established academic institution will be responsible for running the degree courses on the ship.

freedom cruise line international

Roger Gooch, the CEO of Freedom Cruise Line International from his Florida office stated that they already have reservations for 15% (of the units). He said that the hope was that the vessel would have a “global environment”, with a large mixture of different nationalities and ages. It was not meant to be seen as a retirement cruise ship but one where people could run their businesses and educate their children. As a sales incentive, the company’s material points out that there will be no local taxes to pay including income tax, real estate tax, sales tax, business tax and import duties. However, residents will have to abide by federal tax laws in their home country. Gooch is also pleased to announce that Freedom Ship’s Board of Directors has determined that primary construction operations will commence in Indonesia and Singapore. Design processes are currently underway and live real time construction operations are planned to be provided to the global audience via on site 24/7 webcams. In addition, Freedom Cruise Line is currently open to dialogue with all interested parties or entities relative to either stock equity investments and or joint venture relationships as well.

Inside plan for world’s biggest ship 6 times larger than an aircraft carrier that could take 100k on never-ending cruise

  • Georgie English
  • Published : 12:06 ET, Nov 28 2023
  • Updated : 12:15 ET, Nov 28 2023
  • Published : Invalid Date,

THE world's biggest ever ship able to carry 100,000 people on board is due to be the most impressive mega cruise ever to set sail.

On deck the behemoth of a boat was designed to give passengers and permanent residents a never-ending life of luxury - miles more impressive than any city back on land.

Freedom Ship was first proposed in the 90s - and has been under development since

Designed to be much more than a cruise liner, the Freedom Ship is a gigantic floating place where people live, work, retire or go on holiday to.

The enormous vessel would be on a nonstop voyage around the globe - touching all seven seas in three years.

Going from Britain - it would head down past France into the Mediterranean , circle round Africa and into the Indian Ocean.

It would then circle round Australia , up towards China , before then heading across the Pacific and down the coast of the Americas.

The longest ship in the world currently is the mammoth Seawise Giant but the Freedom Ship would be nearly three times bigger.

Standing at 350ft tall and 4,500ft in length the ship would look like it's going on forever as it looms over the horizon.

The superstructure would have 25 floors and make it an unmissable experience for anyone with steady sea legs.

The designers have placed a huge importance on the project looking just as beautiful as it is big with more than 200 acres of relaxation and fun on board.

‘We will strike your nukes,’ vows Russia if US deploys weapons to Poland border

Vast parks full of ponds, greenery and waterfalls partnered with huge aquariums full of fancy fish that traverses over multiple decks.

They'll even be a full size shopping mall full of big brands and new independent shops as the makers are hoping people will set up their own businesses as 100,000 new faces walk through the city on a ship each day.

On board there would also be schools, hospitals, gyms, restaurants - anything you would expect to find a typical city back on land including a full prison.

Developers hope the ship would have 40,000 full time residents, 30,000 daily visitors, 10,000 hotel guests and 20,000 time crew.

Clearly a project as ambitious and bold as this is going to cost a pretty expensive fee.

The latest estimation has the whole cruise costing anywhere up to £9billion to finish.

This made it one of the biggest reasons as to why the cruise remains just a dream to this day as investors aren't willing to pay up the money needed to fund such a innovative project.

For anyone looking to live your dream life on on board the ship it'll set you back a whopping £9million for a luxurious water-view apartments.

Even the cheapest suits start at £150,000 and it'll cost thousands more to keep entertained on the ship 24 hours a day.

Although as the ship would constantly be travelling out at sea you wouldn't have to pay any taxes.

Freedom Ship is more than a mile long - dwarfing every other vessel at sea

Freedom Ship is designed to stay on the move and treat guests to a non stop time of activities.

It would only stop to take on supplies when an aircraft could't do a simple stop and drop of the items.

The ship's entire top deck is a massive flat runway for planes to land on carrying tourists and permanent residents that come and go.

Passengers would travel up and down the incredible mile-long vessel on an onboard tramway system.

And there would be a fleet of ferries cruising back and forth from the ship to take people back to land.

The ship's decks are layered with glass and open air promenades providing the incredible views over the ocean.

Freedom Ship would one of the largest man-made structures ever built and would dwarf all other ships at sea.

She is also five times larger than the world's biggest warship USS Gerald R. Ford, and six times larger than the Royal Navy's HMS Queen Elizabeth.

And she is almost seven times bigger than the infamous ocean liner Titanic.

But while lots of these incredible concepts often take few stops off the drawing board - there have been multiple attempts to build Freedom Ship even if it isn't sailing today.

Most of these attempts ended in little progress being made as a ship that big and with such exciting ideas on board doesn't sit well with the unforgiving sea waters.

Keeping the 100 ,000 passengers safe would've been hard enough with the endless dangerous wildlife you'd come across but the dodgy weather and horror conditions on certain days and in certain areas was a recipe for disaster.

The ludicrous idea was first proposed in the 1990s - and has since been moved between different firms and investors.

For most travellers, a cruise is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. But what if going on a cruise was your whole life ?

Well, for those on the Freedom Ship, that could be their reality.

Hailed as ‘a unique place to live, work, retire, vacation, or visit’ as opposed to a regular cruise ship , the vessel would sail the seas at five times the size of the biggest ships at over a mile long.

With the capacity to carry over 100,000 passengers, the enormous ship would provide those on board with a never-ending voyage across the globe through all seven seas .

For travellers, going on a cruise could be a life-long event.

Departing from the UK, the Freedom Ship would travel past France into the Mediterranean before exploring the continent of Africa and travelling into the Indian Ocean.

The transferable community would then head around Australia and towards China before going across the Pacific Ocean and towards the coast of the Americas.

The ship would not make a stop for any reason other than to collect supplies which could not be transported via the aircraft and runway on its top deck.

Tourists and the ship’s residents are able to freely come and go via the planes which can land on top of the ship, too, as well as the fleet of ferries which will travel to and from the ship to transport people back to land.

The vessel would be five times the size of the biggest ships at over a mile long.

And because of the ship’s incredible size, passengers are able to travel across the mile-long vehicle using the onboard tram system.

Tourists and residents alike would be able to find everything they need to thrive on their potentially life-long trip, including schools, shops, gyms, hospitals and restaurants.

The ship's capacity would be made up of 40,000 full-time residents, 30,000 daily visitors, 10,000 hotel guests and 20,000-time crew.

For those wanting to have a taste of the full-time cruise life, a luxurious pad with a sea view could set travellers back £9 million, while more affordable options start at just £150,000 .

The ship would only stop to collect supplies.

Although on the surface, the Freedom Ship appears to cater to every traveller’s need - it has yet to have gotten off the ground.

The ship was originally proposed in the 1990s, and has seen many moves between different firms and investors between then and now.

The original design seems to be owned by Freedom Cruise Line International, whilst plans still appear to be up in the air as construction plans have not been set in stone.

Looks like we might have to wait a little longer to get that lifetime-worthy cruise we’re all dreaming of.
