controllable, smooth and a great midlane read

Amazing ball for almost every shot, house, challenge, sport.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Best reactive resin ball ever made!

Storms best make no doubt about it, thinking of getting it? Just do it!!!

Strong mid-lane reaction, smooth and consistent back-end finishing power

Medium to heavy oil

Great baseline ball

Four 300's, two 800's ... Storm's best kept secret. They would have sold twice as many of these if it had a flashier looking coverstock.

Flawless Surface

Local Bowling Alley, Tournaments

IQ Tour is best bowling ball ever made!

Probably the best ball ever made. I have gone through 4 of these since it came out. I use it in local leagues, regional tournaments and state and national events. It's performance is predictable, and always my go to ball. I recently shot 866 (300,266, 300) in a league and never changed balls and got great length and consistent carry all night. Every bowler should have one in their bag.

Flawless Surface, Great Weight

Control And Power

First ball out of the bag

Replaces Exhausted IQ Tour

Great ball. Strong down lane with control. Easy to use during transitions. First ball and often the only ball used during a league session.

Local Bowling Alley

the ball rolls nice

Attractive, Flawless Surface, Great Weight

300 in recent tournament!!!

I use this ball from league to tournaments. For me it is a great ball for the drier house shots and shorter tournament patterns as I have mine polished. Has plenty of energy to get around the corner from deep inside angles and doesn't over react off the misses outside. My son wants one now after watching it perform in last tourney.

Attractive, Comfortable Grip, Flawless Surface, Great Weight

Local Bowling Alley, Upgrade

Excellent move!

Wanted a ball that is a bit more aggressive and also work in heavier oil. I have had to stand a few more boards left of my usual place but the ball works well from there. I really like it.

Comfortable Grip, Flawless Surface, Great Weight

great piece

What can I say, this ball is a benchmark that is very predictable and hits like a tank. The ball motion of this ball is phenomenal, very strong without that skid/snap reaction.Storm always produces great bowling balls and the IQ Tour is just another in a long line of solid Storm products over the years.

Attractive, Comfortable Grip, Flawless Surface, Great Weight, Very controllable

I used this in league the first day I bought it and went 300. For a ball with surface it is super strong on the back until it gets oil in it then it seems to calm down.Dont plan on using this ball on fried conditions. On fresh you would kill with this ball . You dont have to work as hard...just get it off your hand. Great price!! Nice ball as a first out of bag piece.

Excellent Benchmark Ball, Reads Lanes Reliably

Local Bowling Alley, Tournaments, Upgrade

Amazing Ball!!!!

This ball really performs. It has a tremendous "feel" and has increased my confidence. I feel like the pocket has opened up for me by 20%. This ball has really excelled (for me) on medium to heavy oil conditions. I don't know if it is the core, coverstock or the combination of the two that gives it such a consistent feel. It hits like a freight train, the pins stay low, and they just keep falling. My strike / game ratio has increased from 5.2 to 6.8. This has resulted in me averaging 221 (I carry a 196 average) over the last 2 weeks. I am left handed and often have the left side to myself. This ball does not seem to eat up or push as much oil as my other balls and I have not had to make as many adjustments as I normally do. This was an excellent upgrade that I feel is giving me the confidence to take my game to the next level.

Great Scent, Smooth Reaction

Storm IQ Tour Review by Daniel Mareina

The Storm IQ Tour Edition is the C³™ Centripetal Control Core, with the R2S solid coverstock. This ball gives an unparelled smooth reaction, with the hitting power of most Premier Line balls. I drilled the IQ Tour with a 4 3/4" pin, 5 1/2" MB, and a 4 1/4" pin buffer. This is a lower flaring, smoother layout for me. The orginal coverstock comes at a 4000 grit finish. I used the ball for around ten games with this finish. I found that the ball read the lane really early, but didn't overreact. It resembled the reaction of strong urethane balls of the 80s, but still has power through the pins that the current Storm bowling balls are known for. This ball will be perfect for medium to heavy oil conditions. Due to it's very early read, and extended continuation throughout the whole lane, it should make adjustments really easy to make. I was able to see what part of the lane was drying out, and adjust accordingly much easier than with other bowling balls. Because my house shot is light oil, I polished the coverstock with a heavy coat of Storm Step 3 polish. This stopped all of the early read on the lane, and allowed the ball to clear the heads, and only have a light mid-lane read. By not using any of it's energy early on the lane, it multiplied the downlane power. I was able to move 10 boards to the right, and play almost straight up the boards. The ball still made a smooth reaction, albeit much later on the lane, and drives through the pin deck harder than any ball I have thrown to date. Amazing that a solid coverstock could be shined up, and still work as well as sanded. I flat out love this ball!

IQ Tour 60 x 4 x 75 Pin Down Let me first by saying "WOW" about throwing the IQ Tour. The IQ Tour uses the fast-revving symmetrical C3-Centripetal Control Core with a low differential of .029 in 15 pounders. The Tour uses the R2S solid coverstock (4,000 Abralon box finish). The IQ Tour should be nickname "midlane". The Tour is a ball that is hard to throw through the breakpoint. This is a ball that just reads the lane the correct way. Leaving the ball at box finish, I bowled on the Kegel Turnpike pattern and had great control of the pocket. This pattern doesn't have a lot hold and swing, so it was hard pattern to consistently hit the pocket. But with the IQ Tour strong midlane I was able to create a little miss room and score very well on this pattern. For league I applied Storm Step 2 Compound as our local houses are on the dry side. This gave me some added length but still gave me great control of the breakpoint. I could play up the lane or I could circle the lane with the IQ Tour. If you remember the Special Agent, the IQ Tour is very close. Even with the low differential I was amazed with the good hitting power and carry that it delivered. This is a ball that every tournament bowler should have in his or her arsenal. Great product from Storm! PAP 4 up 1-1/4

Very predictable motion

IQ Tour Review By Tony Reynaud

Lane Conditions: Many Typical Conditions: Variety of Shots: House, Stockholm,Dick Webber Type of Lane: All Synthetic Weight of bowling ball: 15 Surface of bowling ball: Factory/Box What grit was the surface of the ball? 4000 Likes: Very predictable motion going down the lane Dislikes: Other bowlers can use it also! My layout: 65 x 4 1/4" x 35 My PAP: 4 3/4" over 1 5/8 up The IQ Tour is an incredible bowling ball. I have used this ball on a variety of conditions, low scoring as well as high scoring. The IQ Tour gets through the front with ease, then reads the mid lane, and then continues through the back in a motion that is very smooth and predictable, yet very powerful. This is a combination that really fits my bowling style well. I feel it is very important for any serious bowler to have a ball in their ball with a very predictable motion like the IQ Tour. It is a lot easier to read lane conditions as well as the transition when you ball isn't doing tricks as it goes down the lane. I think bowlers tend to make more quality shots when they are lined up. The IQ Tour adds up to more consistency and higher scores. In closing I had a lot of tournament success with the IQ Tour on a variety of different shots. The ball reacted great in tournaments on a house pattern, modified house pattern, Dick Webber, as well as Stockholm. The angle I played was out as far as 2-3 and as deep as 17. The ball performed equally great on all these conditions at a variety of angles. The IQ Tour is the first ball out of my bag in every tournament!

Attractive, Flawless Surface

strong mid lane ball, smooth backend

IQ Tour Edition

Lane Conditions: Medium-Heavy Oil Typical Conditions: Variety of Shots Type of Lane: All Synthetic Weight of bowling ball: 15 Surface of bowling ball: Factory/Box What grit was the surface of the ball? 4000 Likes: Midlane read and strong change of direction off the spot. Dislikes: None so far. My layout: 65 x 4 1/8" x 30 My PAP: 5 7/8" over 1/8" The IQ Tour edition combines the C3-Centripetal Control Core with the R2S cover finished with 4000 abralon. I have used this ball primarily on a 40' heavy oil house shot so far, aside from a couple of games this past weekend when I needed something to step down from the IQ to in order to clear the front of the lane a little better but still handle the volume of oil in the midlane. This ball handled both just fine. What I saw this ball do on the house shot prior to shooting a demo video was insane. The ball literally struck from everywhere on the lane. One shot that I completely threw out the window recovered and struck. This ball will without a doubt help most bowlers open up the pocket. Storm says "Since we built the IQ Tour Edition to be the foundation of your arsenal, you can be confident in the fact that this ball will be consistent across a variety of lane conditions." I see no evidence to contradict this statement. I see the IQ and IQ Tour being a great 1-2 combination in anyone's bag. The IQ Tour when a sharper reaction is needed off the spot and the IQ when you need an earlier read and smoother backend reaction. Storm Bowling Products enjoyed much success on the PBA tour this past season and that doesn't seem to be changing with Rhino Page winning in the South Region on June 17th with the IQ Tour Edition. http://www.stormbowling.com/news/2012/06/3740 For more information on the IQ Tour Edition, visit the following page: http://www.stormbowling.com/products/balls/iqtouredition

will the weight of the ball change the performance of the ball, say from 15 to a 14lbs

Hello! Yes, the weight does affect the performance. Lower weight generally means you will get less pin carry. However, choosing a weight that's comfortable for you is very important to make sure you will be able to control the ball and that you will avoid injury.

can i return the ball and get a 15 lb ball, if i dont open the box

Hello! Here is a link to our exchange policy: https://www.bowling.com/service/returns/#exchange

Is the iq tour and iq 30: a very similar ball

Hi. The Storm IQ is a solid coverstock and the Storm IQ 30 is a pearl coverstock. So they are gong to react differently.

RG is the abbreviation for Radius of Gyration. This is specifically to determine the overall effect that the weight block can have on the performance of the ball. The lower RG numbers are then the more the mass is toward the center of the ball and the higher the RG numbers are the more the mass is toward the cover of the ball. Low RG revs up quicker and High RG revs up later.

Is the IQ close to the virtual gravity

Hello! The Storm Virtual Gravity will be a more aggressive ball than the Storm IQ.

Does the 12lb is tour edition work as well as 13 lb

The 12lb ball will have a modified weight block which will increase the RG slightly, giving the ball a little more length compared to the 13lb.

I was curious if the iq tour works well for low rev players. I mainly bowl on old wood lanes. I guess I'm worried about traction on fresh oil

Yes, this would be a good ball for that.

I roll the ball about 14.5. Pin down be good choice , I like arch

Hello! You can request for this information under the weight selection tab in the blue box that says "click to request pin or top weight".

Does 13 pound have same core as 14 pound?

The 13lb ball will have a generic core.

what is pin/top weight when ordering a ball

Pin Placement can be Out or In. A drilling term that is relative to a bowler's track designed purposely for creating more ball dynamics. A Pin-in ball (when the pin is located within two inches of the Center of Gravity) is excellent choice for control and less hook; a Pin-out ball usually can be made to hook more and flip more dramatically than pin-in balls; they often give the driller more options. And the Top Weight is for drilling of a ball so that there is more weight above the label than there is below; it is considered a positive weight.

Is this ball like the rotogrip idol?

The IQ Tour will be more aggressive than the Roto Grip Idol, for it will have a 4000 grit finish whereas the Idol only has a 2000 grit finish.

Would this IQ ball help my Bowlind avg bowler

The Storm IQ Tour would be a great upper-mid performance ball for medium-heavy oil lanes!

If I am bowling on heavy oil lanes should I take the shine off the ball so that it will hook more.

Yes, if you wanted to dull the cover down to a lower grit finish that will help the ball grip more to work in heavier oil. It will also make the ball ready a little earlier on the lanes so you may have to adjust for ball starting to hook earlier.

Is this ball good for short patterns?

This ball would not be ideal for shorter patterns. The ball is rated for medium to heavy oil conditions and the 4000 grit finish would possibly grip a little too early on short patterns. You may prefer to go with a ball that has a pearl coverstock and/or polished finish out of the box to help get down the lane better on shorter oil.

How does this ball compare to the Storm IQ Nano Pearl?

They are very close in comparison. While the IQ Nano Pearl has a Pearl coverstock which gives it more length, it also has a duller finish than the IQ Tour so it evens the reaction back out some. But I would still say that the IQ Tour reads a little earlier and smoother on the lane than the IQ Nano Pearl which goes just slightly longer.

Is this still available. I have scene it on here forever. Been wanting one ,but I figure it’s discontinued…?

We do still have this ball in stock and available in most weights.

I have the Nova, DV8 collision and The DV8 DG Verge. Would this ball fit in there? Or would a ball a little stronger like the phaze 2 be better?

This ball is going to be very similar to the DV8 DG Verge. It has similar strength but the IQ Tour will have a little more length than the Verge to give it a little more backend hook. Since this fits so closely to the Verge you may prefer the Phaze II which is stronger than the Verge but not quite as strong as the Nova or Collision.

Would this ball be a good step down from the phaze 2

Hi Mike, the Storm IQ Tour would react later on the lanes and have less hook potential than the Storm Phaze II.

Will any of the IQ's work with a 13mph bowler?

There are a lot of factors to still consider which may make one IQ a better fit than another. Lane conditions and rev rate would also help to determine which IQ would be best for you.

Will this ball be good for someone who throws 13mph

This ball can be used by just about any bowler. If you are a rev dominant player then this ball may work better in heavier oil. If you are a speed dominant player then this would work better for you in medium conditions. If your rev rate matches your speed pretty well then this ball should work as advertised for medium to heavy conditions.

Can you explain why there is different iq tour solid colors. Some of them have a brighter blue

There are a few different factors that could cause one to look a little brighter than another. First, there are going to be just varying degrees of the color when Storm is pouring and mixing the color and making the ball. They should be pretty close however so I could not say that is a big factor. Another factor could be the finish of the ball. Out of the box the ball comes with a 4000 grit finish. If anyone adds polish to the ball it could make the ball look a different shade of blue than if someone sanded the ball to a duller finish so there could be differences depending on the surface. In that same situation a ball that has been used for a while will tend to get darker over time due to the lane oil build up in the cover so that could also make some look darker than others. Lastly, Storm has found that some bowling balls will have phasing where the color looks lighter if the ball is maybe not used for a while or if the ball changes temperature maybe from being in your air conditioned house to a car or from your car to the air conditioned lanes. Sometime this can effect the color of the ball. I hope this helps explain how there may be different colors for the same ball.

Hello All and thanks for reading. Here is the link to our video review : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of2IKxfwarM&feature=BFa&list=UUUdapKcbpNzp3PGwdo7P6GQ Storm you have certainly outdone yourself. Sometimes less is more so the saying goes. We are all familiar with this shape core from the other IQ and Marvel series but changing the densities has made a winner. This ball is the new industry benchmark. I have thrown this ball (layout 65 x 4 3/4 x 65) on every house shot on every lane surface on every animal pattern and had much success. Surface changes are easy and very effective but mine stays box surface with maybe a slight glaze. With a core that helps the ball hold energy downlane and into the pins this ball is easy to score with. Smooth through the front, midlane transition is predictable and continuation is the best in the biz right now. Enjoy this one guys, it may be around for a long time....at least I hope so.

I couldn’t sit aside and watch people strike with this ball against me any longer, so I had to drill one up for myself finally. The IQ Tour is a unique formula; a low rg, low differential core with a fairly aggressive cover has not been done as long as I can remember. The ball motion is unique as well. If you can imagine in your head what the quintessential “benchmark” ball reaction would be, this is it. It doesn’t hook early, but doesn’t squirt too long. It doesn’t flip, but finishes consistently and continuously. It hooks a good amount in oil, but doesn’t over hook in dry. This is truly a remarkable ball. Mine is drilled 60 x 4 x 35. Compared to my IQ, the Tour Edition is cleaner through the front with a little more pop in the back. Compared to a Victory Road Solid (the last ball with this coverstock), the IQ Tour offers a more controlled move at the breakpoint, because of its lower differential. This is really a ball that will find a spot in every bowler’s bag. Straight guys, hook guys, and all guys in between have had success with this ball as their centerpiece in their arsenals.

I had my driller drop one off for me right before the start of league, so I only had a couple minutes to work it out and a few shadow balls. Right away, I could see this ball was something special, in that a couple of light rippers had pins flying everywhere. Started first game with front 10, then overthru the 11th. Ran the sheet the next game. Third game was soft 10, strike, ring 10, and ran sheet again. Out of the box 289-300-270 (859) If first impressions count, then WOW Ball was drilled pin down, with CG slightly kicked out. Bowled at Olympia Lanes, where we have the senior national stop in August every year, where I've had some success.

It is a lot easier to read lane conditions as well as the transition when you ball isn’t doing tricks as it goes down the lane.

The !Q Tour ball details are here: http://www.stormbowling.com/products/balls/iqtouredition I drilled a 3-4 inch pin out placing pin below finger on center line 5 1/4 inches from PAP and "MB" 4 inches from PAP with hole in P3. This is by far my favorite drilling and like to use on longer to flatter patterns. I took the box finish from 4000 to 2000 an this still has a enough energy retained off the entry angle to carry. The R2S cover has been very versatile for me and for many. I believe the !Q Tour and Fire Road will make headlines in the WSOB and other PBA and big tourney events.

The IQ TOUR ball details are here: http://www.stormbowling.com/products/balls/iqtouredition You can find a picture of my IQ TOUR on my blog here: http://www.11thframe.com/page/reviews_id_6 There has been a lot of talk that the IQ TOUR has the core of the TOUR POWER, which is one of the great control balls of all time. The IQ TOUR core is not exactly the TOUR POWER core, but the fast-revving symmetrical C3-Centripetal Control Core is close enough to think of it that way. The very low 0.029 differential (15-pounders) is the number that stands out. Put it with the R2S solid coverstock (4,000 Abralon box finish) that was used in great balls like the SPECIAL AGENT and T-ROAD SOLID and you have what should be a great benchmark ball. That certainly was my thinking in choosing a drilling with the pin under my bridge and the CG kicked right at about 60 to 75 degrees. I chose the pin under drilling because if it's going to be a benchmark ball for fresh oil it better have a drilling that gets it rolling. My 61/64 weight hole is at P3, which should increase flare by 21 percent The PIN to PAP is 5, PAP to "MB" is 4 7/8, and pin buffer is 4 3/4. I have used the IQ on a wet-dry house shot on Brunswick ProLane synthetics and the PBA Chameleon pattern in a PBA Regional on older Brunswick synthetics, as well as several other conditions since my initial review was posted on other sites. My reaction to the IQ TOUR is simply: WOW! The midlane move on the IQ TOUR is incredible. On the house shot, I had to get about 3-and-2 deeper than I was with the IQ and could throw it very hard and it never went through the breakpoint. And it was completely unusable on Chameleon for my moderate speed/tweener rev rate combination. The IQ TOUR is such a strong ball that I struggled to find a condition that it worked for me on - my moderate ball speed and tweener revs simply made it a tough ball for me to control, even after I shined it. I finally gave up and plugged my IQ TOUR and will be drilling it with my favorite control drilling -- the pin up and to the left of my middle finger with the CG kicked back to the grip center or so. This gives me much more control and was a favorite drilling for me in a VIRTUAL GRAVITY and before that a VERTIGO that I used for several years. If you're someone looking for a ball that makes a strong move in the midlane, the IQ TOUR is a ball you should get. If that's something you don't like, you probably want to avoid it, or at least plan on drilling it weak.

I have used this ball in every tournament I bowled in since I received the ball. It proved to be a very reliable ball in every tournament. In the Eastern PBA50 tournament in Cherry Hill, NJ, I lead qualifying and finished 2nd overall. I played around 3rd arrow. The next tournament was the New England Bowlers Association Senior. I used it in the finals playing 1st arrow. I shot 289, 299, 247 to when the tourney. I bowled in the Grand Masters tournament in Wallingford, CT. Played arround 2nd arrow and finished 2nd. As you can see it performed great in 3 different areas! I highly recommend this ball!

STORM does a perfect job in creating a "benchmark" ball. For a solid ball this doesn't hook as much as a NANO or a VIVID and doesn't react like a pearl or a hybrid. An awesome ball to go to when you're lost on the lanes and definitely could be the first ball out of your bag come league night!!

Storm IQ Tour Ball Review

iq tour edition

Today I thought I would write a short review on one of my favorite balls of all-time, the Storm IQ Tour Edition. This is a ball I have a ton of experience with, through product testing days, ball motion comparisons, and competition on the lanes. Simply put, the Storm IQ Tour is a staple in a lot of tournament bowler's bags for many reasons.

Probably most important is that's just one of the best medium balls you can find in the marketplace. By that, I mean that when you simply need a good rolling, hard hitting "league" ball, it's tough to go wrong with this one. The IQ Tour Edition plays nearly any "medium oil" condition with ease. The ball has just enough length, a super controllable mid-lane, with a curvy backend shape that fits a lot of bowler's eyes. It just "does the right thing," as one of my good friends in bowling would say.

The IQ Tour comes in a solid navy color with red logos, which I think also appeals to a wide section of the marketplace. We have a lot of customers that prefer a dark, or single colored bowling ball. They're typically easier to pick up in the transition phase of the ball motion, and bowlers tend to describe them as more predictable than similar rolling multi-colored products.

My IQ Tour was drilled with a 5" pin distance to the positive axis point, just above the ring finger. The exact layout is 65 x 5" x 40. The ball was close to requiring a weight hole in the ring finger quadrant of the ball, but came in just under an ounce of finger weight. I get about 2 1/2" - 3" of track flare out of this ball, giving me a smooth and predictable ball motion overall.

If you're interested in learning more about one of the best selling balls in the last 5-7 years, come on by Total Bowling Gear. We've always got this one in stock!

Storm IQ Tour Edition Bowling Ball Review

This just might be the real deal!

Buy the Storm IQ Tour Edition Bowling Ball from Bowling.com!

Storm latest bowling ball in the Master Line is the Storm IQ Tour Edition. As usual, keep in mind that the coverstock will account for 70% of ball reaction while the core characteristics and drilling will dictate the shape of the reaction. For our Tweener, the ball is drilled 4″ pin x 4 x 1 using the Storm pin buffer system. For our Stroker, the ball is drilled 3 1/2″ pin x 4 1/4 x 1. Our test pattern is the Kegel Main Street, which is a 41 foot tapered typical house pattern with a 7.2:1 oil ratio.

Please work with your local pro shop operator to find the appropriate layout that works for you.

First Impressions When I first saw the specs of this ball, I instantly thought benchmark control ball. Some may think it’s weak. However, I’m here to tell you on count 1, I was right. On count 2, you would be wrong if you thought it would be weak.

Value 8.5/10 Although this is in the Master Line and moderately costly, it still offers good value as it appears it will be quite usable.

Core The IQ Tour might look like it uses the original Centripetal core, but it’s modified and called C3 Centripetal core. A 15 pound ball has an RG of 2.49 and a low differential of .029. While such a low differential for this symmetrical core may imply this is a weaker ball, what it really offers is control. It does reduce the flare potential a bit, but it’s really nothing to be worried about. This core shape has generally offered a control reaction and this version still offers that.

Cover 9/10 Alright, R2S solid again. You can read a number of my Storm reviews of balls that use this cover. It simply works and is extremely versatile. Factory finish for the IQ Tour Edition is 4000 abralon. ‘Nuff said.

Reaction 9/10 I believe the core primarily dictates the overall shape of the reaction. Don’t mistake that with the role the cover plays in the overall ball motion. The key word is “shape”. How can I put this simply. With the IQ Tour Edition, you can easily see all 3 phases the ball goes through. You see where the ball moves from skid to hook and then from hook to roll. It doesn’t mean the transitions are aggressive. They are just extremely easy to read. It’s as easy as any true benchmark ball we’ve tested, maybe even better. At 4000 grit abralon, the R2S cover still offers reasonably good length. You begin to see the ball transition to hook and then roll very easily as the core is an early rolling core. Let’s dig in to the ball reaction just a bit more. The transition from skid to hook is very obvious yet smooth as the core is churning it’s way around. The transition from hook to roll is slightly sharper because the core is early revving, making it very easy to see the ball start to roll towards the pocket. None of this is bad. It just is. You would also have a good option to put some light polish, allowing for slightly more length which will actually offer a slightly smoother transition from hook to roll. By adding a little length, the core would get a foot or two further down lane before transitioning. Another option if you are on a heavier condition is to use more a more aggressive finish like 2000 or 1000 abralon. You’ll still get a pretty smooth rolling ball, but you’ll just use up more energy in the midlane.

Digitrax Analysis

If you weren’t certain what this ball can do, take a quick look at the Digitrax analysis and you will get a better sense.  Kegel Main Street is a 41 foot representative of a typical house shot.  It has good overall strength as over 6.5 degrees of entry angle.  Of course, you will get more or less angle depending on your bowling style.  I am a Power Stroker and this is the tracking analysis for the out of box finish.

The second Digitrax analysis was performed on the 2012 USBC Championship Pattern.  This is a rather difficult 39 foot pattern with a 2:1 ratio of oil.  If you’re not certain how difficult this pattern is, you basically have to hit the 7 or 8 board at the breakpoint to have any chance to strike.  Left or right of that and you’ll be lucky to get an 8 count.  Here, you will see how well this ball worked.  I have to play deeper on this pattern and still had over 6 degrees of entry angle.  The Tropical Heat Hybrid performed a bit above average on this difficult shot.  I would definitely suggest keeping the surface as it really matched up much to control the lane, better than my Furious with the light polish.  The new Manic, for example, is slightly better as the core turns over a bit sooner with a lower RG, allowing a bit more control.  By contrast, the Virtual Gravity Nano works extremely well for me on this condition as the core really creates even more control with an even lower RG, making for a very consistent reaction, while the cover strength also allows for maybe a half board more room for error.

Overall 9/10 This ball has every right to be a popular ball for Storm the next bowling season. While some might not be excited by the single color navy blue, you should be excited by the ball reaction. It would be a shame if this ball isn’t popular with the masses as I’m guessing it will be popular on sport shots. This is an excellent control ball that still has lots of overall motion. You will not be disappointed by this offering if you need a ball that is very easy to read the conditions.

8 thoughts on “Storm IQ Tour Edition Bowling Ball Review”

Coach, first off, let me compliment you and everyone at TamerBowling. You and your staff do a great job of reviewing equipment. You have made yourself available to me to bounce ideas off of and have given us all a ton of expertise that is just not available anywhere else. Having said that….

Storm is killing us with all their balls. I am all for Storm and other ball co’s releasing a whole bunch of stuff so we as bowlers have more tools and options.

But it’s almost becoming paralyzing the number of choices we have as bowlers. How does one even begin to determine whether to buy a Nano, Nano Pearl, Vivid, Marvel, Modern Marvel, Victory Road Solid, Manic or IQ Tour? I mean, all of them are relatively early, relatively hooking. How to choose between them. And for heaven sake, that is just one line from one company. There’s Ebonite brands, Roto, Global 900, Brunswick, etc etc.

Storm and other ball co’s have produced these wonderful tools, but have given the bowler no way of determining which one to buy. I cannot afford (in time and money) more than a few balls a year.

I subscribe to Bowling this Month which has reviews and CATS data. I read this site, which has excellent quality info. I read other websites, watch youtube reviews. And yet when I find myself unable to kick out the soft 10 on a house shot and want a new rock, I really have no idea of what to buy.

And I do not buy the company line, “please talk with your proshop operator”. That’s bull****. I know just as much if not more about how stuff reacts for me and others than my pro shop operator does. I think the ball co’s are doing themselves a disfavor by not giving us a way to evaluate equipment for appropriateness. There is nothing as unsatisfying as getting a new rock to solve a problem in your carry only to find out that your choice was way off the mark. I have attended demo days from Ebonite. Too bad both times they did the demo, the lanes were not oiled and played different than the typical house shot. So the feedback was not reliable.

Keep up the good work that you are doing Coach. Your site does it better than any other. With your info, I can at least narrow my choices down quite a bit and know that whatever ball I choose will not be TOO far off the mark, if not the perfect choice.

Why do the ball co’s not understand this problem? Or maybe they do, but what stops them from offering better info?

Singed, Confused consumer.

Hi David, I feel your pain. It’s painfully true that manufacturers are putting out an obscene amount of equipment per year. Like any other business, product drives sales. Keeping things fresh helps drive sales. Yes, there’s a ton of re-use of technology which tells me that that much new equipment per year is not really necessary. But, it is what it is. There are a couple of ways to combat this, some of which you attempted. 1. You could opt to stick with one brand. Generally speaking, it’s pretty easy to see the purpose of the equipment as you go up and down a manufacturer’s lineup as opposed to trying to fit a piece from this brand and hope it fills a gap from another. I know some of us like a certain piece from a mfg, but then don’t have interest in other pieces. You can do what you want, but you will be adding to the confusion. 2. Take advantage of demo days. It’s unacceptable that lanes aren’t oiled properly for a demo day. However, assuming this is not an issue, it’s one of the better ways to get a feel for the ball roll and whether you will like it or not. I’ve found it difficult to determine how a ball fits in my arsenal this way since the physical fit of demo balls tends to be off. Most of the time, I found a ball to be much stronger than I expected once it’s actually drilled for me. 3. Watch videos and read about the balls. I know you have good experience. While we may not be the ones actually throwing the ball, if the bowler has similar revs, speed, tilt and rotation, you are likely to get a good feel for the ball roll. I could usually tell if I’m going to like the ball based on that. Again, it takes a bit of an experienced eye, but we can try it. 4. Ebonite Blueprint. Ebonite happens to try to solve this problem for us by offering a software that can let you see what the ball will do through simulation using your specs. It’s not the same as throwing it nor will it give you a “read” on the ball roll. It’s also only available for the Ebonite International brands. Maybe a good reason to stick with their brands for those that are already using it. 5. Ask. We at TamerBowling are available to you. Your proshop operator is available to you, hopefully. Manufacturers are very open to taking technical questions about their equipment. 6. Stick with what works. Yes, new equipment comes out all the time. However, given the amount of reuse of technology, you can almost always find what you’ve thrown before. 7. Stick with drills that work for you. Experimenting too much could simply lead to frustration over a ball’s motion. Even if it may have been the right ball if drilled correctly, most of us are soured on a ball after first impressions.

Personally, I’ve had various ways of putting an arsenal together. I have to give credit to a couple of astute pro shop operators. They were able to pick out a couple of pieces that would work for me on that condition, in a particular house. The drilling matched up perfectly. I may not have realized it right away, but over time, it was proven over and over again that these couple of balls with certain drills work and are extremely versatile for me.

Now I know the core shapes that tend to work for me, the drills, and types of covers. It still doesn’t always work, but we try our best.

For example, I had a lot of success with the Storm Furious. The same core is now in the Tropical Heats. Guess what, the new Tropical Heats still work amazing for me. Why not get one? My old Ebonite V2 was my favorite ball of all time. Gamebreaker was re-released and I picked one up. Guess what, it still works. Sometimes reducing the variables is key.

Good answer and thanks for that. I do think that I need to pay more attention to the cores of the balls than I have. One can make some general deductions based on core shape, RG and cover (solid VS pearl).

Still pretty frustrating. My very knowledgeable friend wanted something to fill the gap between his Nano and his Marvel Pearl. He throws all Storm stuff. This dude is anal about everything. Watched a bunch of video, talked to pro-shop. He buys a Modern Marvel. I agreed with him before he boughtt. So far he is not happy. The Modern seems to crap out very early and hit like a noodle. Contrast to the Nano which seems to be longer and stronger. And the Marvel Pearl which has good length and snap. All 3 balls drilled pin high.

I think Blueprint is an awesome product if you get accurate readings from it. I did not own any of the 4 balls they included in the demo. So not sure how well it would reproduce my ball reactions. None of the pro’s around me have it tho.

No doubt, it’s not the easiest thing in the world. I’m sure there’s additional frustration for your friend thinking he made a logical choice and it hasn’t worked out so far. Maybe he can try some different surfaces or even a different drill. It really depends on the shape hook he’s looking for. If you want to share more info, maybe we can help. Other than that, we just need to try to do our best to put the right ball in our hands at the right time. We know how rewarding that can be…

Hello, Coach T. My name is Andrew. I have Defiant, Invasion nano pearl and taboo pearl for heavy oil. I also have Track 300c and natural pearl for dry lane. Currently I’m looking for a medium ball or a benchmark ball. I was just confuse which one should i choose between Hyroad or IQ tour or Crossroad… Please give me your advise.

Hi Andrew, Thanks for your question. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself as a bowler. What’s your average, ~speed, rev rate, how do you like to play the lanes, do you bowl on house shot or sport, etc.? What type of ball reaction to do you like to see, smooth roll, skid/flip, hook/set? The 3 balls you are looking at are all very good options as benchmark balls so if you give a little bit more background on yourself and what reaction you see from your current equipment, we could give a recommendation.

I am a right handed. average around 150-160. medium speed and rev. i think that i am a tweener. also have participate in several local tournament. currently the alley i am playing at is using a 45 ft of THS oil pattern. On a fresh oil, I always start with defiant (my defiant is drill with pin down), standing with my left foot at 25th board and the target of my arrow are 17th board. the breakpoint will be at somewhere around 13th board. the defiant will have a midlane read and then have a smooth transition hook to roll. if the lane start changing, i start to migrate to left and move the target also. so everything is fine until here. the problems come when i am playing at a already burned up lane. Sometimes without realizing i even chicken wing the ball. so i really need a benchmark ball that can give me the extra length but the same backend reaction like my defiant. obviously my 300c and natural pearl are unfit to do the job.

almost forget i use a 14 lbs 4 oz or 14 lbs 7 oz of bowling ball.

!Q Tour Fusion

Storm !Q Tour Fusion

The IQ Tour Edition and Tour Pearl burst onto the scene late last year and immediately became two of the most sought-after balls in the industry. Both feature the C3™ Centripetal Control Core which is engineered to yield ample midlane roll and smooth out the transition. The “Gold Ball,” however, is a one of a kind in that it creates a lot of entry angle with a long transition. Most bowling balls which enter the pocket so steeply have a much shorter transition.

What does this mean to you?  More entry angle with more control!

The IQ Tour Fusion is exactly what you need because it yields the same strong, aggressive move to the pocket without the sensitivity to higher volumes of oil. The IQ Tour Fusion’s surface roughness of the new R2S™ hybrid mixture is approximately 12% higher than the pearl, meaning that it can handle more oil, while the highly polished finish keeps it from hooking too early! Feel free to move inside and open up your angle…the IQ Tour Fusion will take care of the rest.

R2S Hybrid Coverstock

R2S is synonymous with some of the most successful balls in recent history like the Hy-Road, Frantic, and the IQ Tour. It is renowned for clearing the front part of the lane with an unprecedented movement on the backend. The consistency of this shell through the heads is something to be marveled at.

C3 Centripetal Control Core

Storm C3 Centripetal Control Core

Workable and forgiving, the C3 Centripetal Control Core is a design that revs up quickly, providing a smoother change of direction downlane. This shape is beneficial for players requiring control at the breakpoint. Used only in the !Q Tour series of balls, this core is precisely designed and manufactured using proprietary technology.

LEAVE THE COMPETITION SEEING (RUBY RED)

The original !Q Tour became famous with R2S, and the !Q Tour Ruby will be no exception. The !Q Tour Ruby will feature R2S Pearl and will come in a 1500-grit polished box finish that will make the one-color ruby pearl cover simply shine. But good looks are just the window dressing. On the lanes, R2S Pearl provides the highest coefficient of dry lane friction of any coverstock we have to offer. That allows the !Q Tour Ruby to easily glide through the front of the lane on most conditions before charging back to the pocket with all the carrying power you’re ever going to need.
