"I went online to look at the MLS and started looking at Journey Homes. Would we be paying a little more than what we would for rent in Fort Collins? Not much more for a brand new beautiful home where the kids have their own bedrooms and we have our own backyard - and it's ours."

How Journey Home is Making a Difference

Our mission is to ensure a home for all.

We’ve spent more than a decade committed to ending homelessness in Connecticut’s Capital region by applying sustainable solutions to the barriers that create cycles of homelessness.

Every day, we work to:

  • Prevent as many people as possible from losing their housing
  • Increase the speed at which we find housing for anyone who is already experiencing homelessness
  • Help folks move into their homes and provide the furnishings and services they need to never become homeless again

Richard Buckminster Fuller says, “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

For Connecticut, that new model is the Coordinated Access Network, a way for people who are experiencing homelessness to access housing and support services in a standardized and organized way. It involves having clear protocols, assessment tools, and agreed-upon priorities within the community that serves homeless individuals.

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

–Richard Buckminster Fuller

The Results (So Far)

Decrease in the number of people experiencing chronic homelessness since 2015, journey home mission: our mission is to ensure a home for all..

We believe the most powerful way to do this is collectively - by working together with service providers, elected officials, businesses and local communities to end homelessness in the Capital region of Connecticut. We will build partnerships, advance innovative solutions and achieve enduring, systemic change.

Harnessing the sun: navigating solar for homes in pennsylvania.

journey homes jobs

As the push for sustainable energy gains momentum, many homeowners in Pennsylvania are considering harnessing the power of the sun through solar panel installation. However, before embarking on this eco-friendly journey, you should do your research and decide if solar is right for you and your home. Not every home will benefit from solar power in the same way. Here’s a brief overview of some things to consider before contacting companies for a solar panel quote.

Pennsylvania Rebates for Home Solar Installation

The first question on everyone’s mind when it comes to solar is the cost. Time and time again, homeowners routinely find themselves asking how much do solar panels cost , and the answer might surprise you.

One of the key incentives for homeowners in Pennsylvania to go solar is the availability of rebates. The state offers various financial incentives to promote the adoption of solar energy. One such initiative is the Pennsylvania Sunshine Solar Program, which provides rebates for residential solar installations. The program aims to make solar power more accessible by offering financial assistance to offset the initial costs.

To qualify for these rebates, homeowners must adhere to specific guidelines set by the program. Typically, these guidelines involve using approved solar installers and equipment, ensuring the system meets certain performance standards, and complying with local building codes. The rebates, which can significantly reduce the overall cost of installation, serve as a tangible benefit for those looking to make the switch to solar energy.

The Pros and Cons of Solar Panels

As with any project, there are pros and cons to solar panels that many homeowners may not have considered. Understanding these advantages and disadvantages is crucial for homeowners considering solar installations. While the long-term benefits can be substantial, it’s essential to weigh them against the initial investment and potential drawbacks.

  • Reduced Energy Bills: One of the most significant advantages of solar panels is the potential for substantial savings on energy bills. Solar systems generate electricity, allowing homeowners to rely less on traditional power sources.
  • Environmental Benefits: Solar energy is a clean and renewable resource, contributing to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impact.
  • Increased Home Value: Homes equipped with solar panels often have higher resale values, as eco-friendly features are increasingly attractive to buyers.
  • High Initial Costs: While rebates can mitigate some expenses, the upfront cost of purchasing and installing solar panels can be a significant barrier for many homeowners.
  • Weather Dependency: Solar panels depend on sunlight to generate electricity, meaning their efficiency is affected by weather conditions. Cloudy days or extended periods of rain can limit energy production.
  • Aesthetic Concerns: Some homeowners may find solar panels unattractive or disruptive to the overall appearance of their homes.

Homeowners that Should Not Consider Solar Panel Installation

In addition to the pros and cons of solar, some homeowners might be better off sticking with grid power and avoiding solar altogether. If one of the following categories sounds familiar, you might want to put off solar for the foreseeable future.

  • Homeowners with Short-Term Residency – If you plan to move within a few years, the long-term benefits of solar panels may not justify the upfront costs. It’s essential to consider the payback period and ensure you’ll stay in your home long enough to recoup your investment.
  • Shaded Properties – Homes surrounded by tall trees or buildings that cast shadows on the roof may not receive sufficient sunlight for effective solar energy production. In such cases, the installation may not be as efficient, making it a less appealing option.
  • Financial Constraints – While rebates and incentives can alleviate some financial burdens, homeowners facing severe financial constraints may find it challenging to cover the initial costs of solar panel installation.

In short, Pennsylvania’s solar laws and regulations provide a supportive framework for homeowners interested in embracing solar energy. With rebates and incentives available, the financial burden can be significantly reduced. However, it’s crucial for homeowners to carefully evaluate the pros and cons of solar panels and consider their individual circumstances before making the commitment to harness the sun’s power for their homes.

Prototype to pro: Graham Barton’s journey from Duke Dirt Devil to Buc

  • Rick Stroud Times staff

TAMPA — Graham Barton admits the name he suggested for the Duke offensive line may not have been the best.

It was an alliterative nod to the team mascot with enough grit befitting of the position group. However ...

“Everyone is throwing out names and nothing is really sticking and then I was trying to get things that (were alliterative) and I said Dirt Devils and everyone booed it (and) made fun of me because it’s a vacuum,” said Barton, laughing. “It’s like, ‘So what does that mean? We suck?’ ”

Far from it. Barton and his fellow offensive linemen eventually embraced their life of grime and the name stuck like grass to a facemask.

“By the end of the year, us and the quarterback room all have Dirt Devil T-shirts,” he said. “In all seriousness, we just had such a great position room and that identity was all about toughness and grit and playing through hard stuff. We had guys go in and out of the rotation with injury and just people battling and finishing every play, finishing through the whistle, playing with violence.

“That was just who we were at Duke — what we decided we were going to play each snap with. The Dirt Devil name kind of just encompassed all of that. (It was) a fun identity, but really spoke to who we were as a unit.”

On Friday, Barton arrived at the Bucs training facility looking clean in his light blue collared shirt and navy suit.

The first-round pick was greeted in the atrium of the facility by nearly every staff member after arriving from his hometown of Nashville. He led a cheer of “Tampa!” followed by the familiar response of “Bay!”

“He fits the prototype of what we’re looking for — big, fast, and strong,” coach Todd Bowles said. “... We’ve got a lot more beef in the middle where we can beef up and kind of keep people off the quarterback from coming up the gut. He’s a guy we sought highly coming into the draft and he kind of came to us, so we were ecstatic to have him.”

Barton, who played left tackle his last three seasons at Duke, was the center of attention and will soon be competing at center as the presumptive successor to Robert Hainsey.

Halfway through the 2023 season, Bowles and general manager Jason Licht agreed that the Bucs needed to get bigger on the interior offensive line and provide more push for the run game and protection for quarterback Baker Mayfield.

This was Barton’s first trip to Tampa Bay but his journey to the NFL was predictable when he was a freshman for the Ravenwood High School Raptors in Brentwood, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville.

“I coached for 10 years and was the head coach for four years and Graham was always the most mature high school football player — and I’d go farther and say the most mature high school student — I ever came across,” said Matt Daniels, Barton’s coach for four seasons at Ravenwood.

“When you sat and talked to him, you felt like you were talking to someone seven or eight years older. To me, that’s kind of why we all were like, ‘Yeah, he could be special in terms of the NFL one day,’ because a lot of people have that physical piece, but they don’t have that other side.

“He would hang out in the coaches’ office after practice and talk about practice and talk about the game coming up that week and being a part of game plans. It was different, you know? And of course, other people saw that. This culture of not only building relationships with the coaches, but then he would have other buddies stay with him and we’d hang out and talk. He was big on helping us build our culture and being a really, really tight-knit group.”

Barton was an outstanding athlete who played lacrosse until he stopped his junior year to concentrate on football.

He mostly played left tackle, except for one memorable rep at defensive tackle to preserve a win against Pulaski (Arkansas) Academy his senior year.

“Somebody told him to go in on defense and he wasn’t within earshot,” Daniels said. “So he ended up sprinting onto the field. They’re going through their cadence, they’re about to snap the football, and he did not stop. He was in a full spring and, you know, he ran a sub-5.0 40-yard dash.

“So he’s in a full sprint and as the ball is snapped, he put a swim move on the center and flushed the quarterback immediately, and I think he wound up sharing a sack with one of our edge rushers and that was basically the game. It was fourth down and he was just cracking up coming off the field.”

Ravenwood finished 13-2 in Barton’s senior year, losing the state championship game.

Unbelievably, he didn’t receive an offer to play Division I football coming out of high school. It took impressing Duke coaches at their summer camp to earn one.

But Barton arrived at the campus in Durham, North Carolina, during the 2020 summer of COVID-19.

It was tough managing the isolation of having to be somewhat quarantined in dorms while waiting to see when his freshman season would begin.

“His goal has been to play in the NFL and a lot of people say that,” said former Duke offensive line coach Greg Frey, who is now at Tulsa. “... This is a guy who took coaching and took a tough situation (COVID shutdown) and continued to just grind and go after it and lift. He was in the weight room on his own. He’d come in and get extra lifts in. ... It was just incredible determination and discipline towards what he wanted to be.”

As former Alabama head coach Nick Saban said on ESPN during Thursday’s draft coverage, Barton could have taken name, image and likeness (NIL) money elsewhere and gotten into the transfer portal. But he loved Duke, where he majored in public policy.

“I’ll never forget when he committed to Duke,” Frey said. “He said, ‘I was standing on the roof of one of the buildings talking to coach (David) Cutcliffe’ and said he just knew that’s where he was committing. He said he just had that gut feeling. He felt that culture, and I know he will feel his way as a rookie, but he’s going to want to help drive that culture in Tampa.”

A letter from @grahambarton53 's parents pic.twitter.com/iaabTa06Wi — Duke Football (@DukeFOOTBALL) April 26, 2024

Shortly after the Bucs took Barton with the 26th overall pick, his mother Heather and father Phillip released a video documenting their son’s journey from a multi-sport athlete as a kid to the NFL.

“About the time Graham turned 3, he learned to navigate the DVR, re-watching college football games over and over,” his father said. “Later, we asked Graham what he liked most about watching football and he thought for a minute and replied, ‘the tackling.’ ”

The video ends with his parents encouraging him to follow his dreams.

“It definitely brings the emotions out,” Barton said. “My parents have been there every step of the way. They’ve taken me to practice, they’ve signed me up for every different sport, (they’ve) pushed me, fed me, they’ve been a huge part of this process, and I wouldn’t be anywhere near here without them. So, just to hear them share that message and how proud they are — it’s just a special moment for the family, for sure.”

Not a bad journey for a Dirt Devil.

  • Knuckles' villains, G.U.N. agents and The Buyer, set up a thrilling showdown that ends with Knuckles defeating them and finding peace.
  • Wade Whipple's transformation into a braver character and ally hints at exciting developments for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, setting the stage for new adventures.

Knuckles is a spin-off of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 , with the six episodes on Paramount+ ending the show in an action-packed fashion. Since Sonic 2 's release in April 2022, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 's story has been highly anticipated. In order to make the wait for the third installment slightly easier, Paramount has crafted a spin-off TV show centered around Knuckles , telling a solo story about the Echidna warrior.

Knuckles ' voice cast sees Idris Elba return as the titular character, while Adam Pally leads the human cast as the returning Wade Whipple from the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. While many will question how much Sonic and Tails are in Knuckles , the show solidifies itself as a Knuckles-centric storyline. Journeying across the United States to train Wade in the ways of an Echidna warrior, Knuckles ' ending is suitably action-packed , expectedly hilarious, and even features some elements that set up the story of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 .

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will release in theaters on December 20, 2024.

Why Knuckles’ Journey With Wade Whipple Was Important

Knuckles' adventure with wade is a story about finding a home..

By the time of Knuckles ' ending, the titular Echidna and Wade Whipple had traveled to Reno, won a bowling tournament, and defeated the G.U.N. agents pursuing them. Concerning what the point of this journey was, it was to establish Earth as a home for Knuckles. After Sonic the Hedgehog 2 , it became clear that Tails and Sonic have acclimatized to Earth well. Knuckles quickly established that this was the opposite for him, with the warrior struggling to adapt to the more peaceful ways of everyday life on Earth.

Knuckles finally accepted Earth as somewhere he could live rather than begrudgingly stay to watch over the Master Emerald.

Similarly, a big part of Knuckles' story is that he is without a family after his tribe was destroyed. That said, through Knuckles' journey with Wade, he came to accept that Earth could be his home. Through his newfound friendship with Wade, his connection to Wade's family, the people he met, and the places he saw throughout the show's six episodes, Knuckles finally accepted Earth as somewhere he could live rather than begrudgingly stay to watch over the Master Emerald.

Knuckles Villains Explained: Who Are The G.U.N. Agents & The Buyer?

Knuckles' antagonists are connected to the echidna, sonic, and doctor robotnik..

The three villains of Knuckles were introduced earlier in the show; two of the villains are G.U.N. agents who wish to track Knuckles down and sell him to the other of the show's villains, The Buyer. The G.U.N. agents are called Agent Willoughby and Agent Mason and are played by Ellie Taylor and Scott Mescudi respectively, while The Buyer is played by Game of Thrones alum Rory McCann. Concerning the two agents, they are tasked with capturing Knuckles, driven by the money they will be paid for this but also their disillusionment with G.U.N.

Willoughby and Mason are annoyed that G.U.N. began allowing aliens like Knuckles, Sonic, and Tales to live on Earth after supposedly being an agency that prevents such instances from occurring. McCann's aptly named Buyer is the one who will be paying the agents to capture Knuckles in a bid to steal the latter's power. By the time of Knuckles ' ending, The Buyer is revealed as a former lackey of Jim Carrey's Doctor Robotnik, desiring Knuckles' power to exact revenge on the aliens that caused him to lose his position as a G.U.N. agent.

What Happened To The G.U.N. Agents In Knuckles' Ending?

Knuckles' ending sees the g.u.n. agents and the buyer face off with the warrior..

In Knuckles ' ending, the titular Echidna is cornered by the G.U.N. agents. This leads to a lengthy action sequence in a hotel penthouse in Reno, in which Knuckles faces off against his enemies while Wade Whipple saves his family. Eventually, Knuckles uses the power of two rings to defeat Willoughby and Mason , sending the two to an unknown location. The agents are not seen again by the time of Knuckles' ending, proving that the Echidna defeated them once and for all.

Knuckles uses a giant globe-like structure atop a nearby building to crush The Buyer and his suit, ending the threat to Knuckles' life and allowing Knuckles ' ending to be a happy one.

However, Knuckles ' ending then has The Buyer ambush Knuckles as the two battle on the streets of Reno. Sporting a massive exoskeleton that runs off Knuckles' power via GUN experiments , The Buyer quickly overpowers the hero. Wade Whipple then comes to Knuckles' aid, buying enough time for the Echidna to regain his strength, before he begins destroying The Buyer's robotic suit. After a battle, Knuckles uses a giant globe-like structure atop a nearby building to crush The Buyer and his suit, ending the threat to Knuckles' life and allowing Knuckles ' ending to be a happy one.

Wade Whipple Learned What It Means To Be An Echidna Warrior

Wade's journey is just as transformative as his alien friend's by the time of knuckles' ending..

Despite the show being named after Knuckles, Wade Whipple is arguably as important a character as the Echidna himself. Knuckles ' ending allows the warrior to come around to the ways of Earth, coming to call the planet his new home. Where Wade is concerned, the journey allowed him to become a much more confident, competent character as he learned the ways of an Echidna warrior from his new friend Knuckles. In Knuckles episode 4, Wade is shown fighting through his fears and becoming much braver.

Wade's arc then came to a head in Knuckles ' ending , where he came up against his father, who had abandoned him. Cary Elwes' "Pistol" Pete Whipple is cartoonishly evil as the show's bowling antagonist, but serves a purpose in that Wade confronts him for his mistakes. After proving his father was wrong to abandon Wade, his mother, and his sister, Wade beats Pete in a bowling competition. This, combined with Wade standing up to The Buyer after Knuckles was momentarily defeated, proves that Wade found his inner warrior by Knuckles ' ending.

How Knuckles' Ending Sets Up Sonic The Hedgehog 3

The next installment in the sonic the hedgehog franchise can include many knuckles elements..

Knuckles is admittedly more self-contained than many assumed it would be and has little in the way of explicit setup for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 . That said, several character changes, thematic elements, and small world-building aspects could be tied into the story of Sonic 3 when it releases in December 2024. Knuckles ' ending sets up Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with the Echidna now being more willing to protect Earth. While he swore a vow to protect the Master Emerald, his experiences with Wade could see Knuckles fight not just for that, but for Earth itself in the future.

The Buyer's mention of Doctor Robotnik also sets up Jim Carrey's return in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as Eggman.

Sonic 3 Has The Robotnik I've Been Waiting 4 Years For & It Makes Jim Carrey's Return So Much Better

Similarly, Wade's character change could see him be more of a direct ally in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 . Rather than just being a bumbling friend of Tom's, Wade could present his newfound bravery in a way that directly impacts the third film. Furthermore, The Buyer's Knuckles storyline indicates that G.U.N. has a lot of ways to harness the powers of creatures like Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. With Sonic the Hedgehog 3 officially including Shadow the Hedgehog, it could be the case that the villain's powers are used to create a larger arsenal of G.U.N. weaponry.

Knuckles is a spin-off of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise created for Paramount+. Idris Elba reprises his role as Knuckles the Echidna in the action-adventure series, and the show will follow him on a new adventure as he meets new allies and faces new foes.
