Kambly Experience

In the midst of the rolling green hills of the Emmental valley, just 35 minutes from Bern, lies the quaint village of Trubschachen. Visitors immediately notice the delicious smell wafting through the village: a tell-tale sign that this is where Kambly bakes their world-famous biscuits – and they’ve been doing so since 1910.

Every Swiss person knows Kambly’s famous sweet “Bretzeli” and salty “Goldfischli”. At the “Kambly Experience” in Trubschachen, visitors can discover the origins of the family business at interactive learning stations, watch the Maîtres Confiseurs at work, and find a huge and varied selection of Kambly specialities and sweet treats at the factory shop. If you want to get creative yourself, you can book a baking class or event with the Maîtres Confiseurs. Admission to the Kambly Experience is free!

Try your hand at baking and decorating:

In Trubschachen, visitors can slip into the role of baker and Maître Confiseur. In different workshops, to be booked in advance, baking aficionados can learn how to produce hand-made treats. Group classes for up to 24 participants are a wonderful activity for families, clubs, or companies and make for a sweet and creative experience.

Special baking events for children aged 6 and over take place on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. Birthday parties can also be hosted at Kambly: at the celebratory birthday table, a freshly made “Gugelhopf” (bundt cake) from the in-house bakery is served, accompanied by syrup for all the guests and a surprise present for the birthday child.

Discovery trail.

The Discovery Trail takes visitors to the prettiest spots and attractions in the Emmental town of Trubschachen, famous for its Kambly biscuits. The trail begins and ends at the Kambly Experience, open 7 days a week. Equipped with an explorer booklet and pencil and accompanied by three fun squirrels, the 3.5-kilometre tour begins. On your way to the Kambly Experience, you’ll solve child-friendly riddles and puzzles, colourfully illustrated in the booklet. If you crack the secret code, you can use it to open the explorer box at the Kambly Experience and receive a surprise reward.

The Discovery Trail is accessible year-round. In winter, it can be a bit restricted due to weather conditions. It is suited for families with children aged 6 and over. The trail is not wheelchair accessible or pram friendly.

There’s a barbecue pit and a playground along the way.

The booklet can be purchased for CHF 8.00 at the start at the Kambly Experience in Trubschachen. The Kambly Experience is open from Monday to Friday 09.00 a.m.-06.00 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday 09.00 a.m.-05.00 p.m.

Langnau-Trubschachen scavenger hunt

The scavenger hunt from Langnau to Trubschachen is packed with excitement and fun for the entire family. Accompanied by three adventurous little squirrels, you’ll be off on a 6-kilometre walk along the river Ilfis to search for grandmother squirrel’s nut stock. Wooden animals help you out along the way and give important hints as to where the nuts are hidden. Little riddles and puzzles have to be solved to find the correct codeword and the secret code.

Experience moments of joy in the heart of Switzerland! We are taking you on a unique tour to show you the most beautiful places in Switzerland. In a singe day, you’ll experience fantastic views of snow-capped mountains and drive past clear blue lakes, green pastures, and quaint farmhouses. In the Emmental valley, you’ll discover the art of viennoiserie-making and experience delicious moments at the Kambly Experience. You can also explore the world-famous tourist destinations Lucerne and Interlaken, as well as the Swiss capital of Bern with its UNESCO-listed Old City.

Can be booked year-round at the Tourist Offices Bern and Lucerne, the BLS travel centre in Interlaken West, the counter at the train station in Interlaken Ost, as well as the counters at all other train stations in Switzerland.

From April to October, the journey from Interlaken to Brienz can be made by boat.

Kambly Experience tour

Each day, visitors can watch the Kambly master confectioners producing fresh and delightful confectionary and discover the secrets behind the art of fine biscuit making. In addition to macarons and pralines, the Maîtres Confiseurs produce fresh cakes, desserts and chocolates that make delicious accompaniments to coffee or tea.

As soon as you step out of the train, you are greeted by a Kambly Path , where you can learn more about their products. Kids enjoyed looking at the Kambly products described, reading about those they were interested in, and checking out the little information posts.

Apart from these activities, Kambly Experience also has a small biscuit house called Knusperhäuschen that showcases the history of the Kambly brand. Visitors can learn about the origin of the brand and its evolution over the years. The brand’s evolution over the years can be viewed and explained to visitors with the show and film

Tasting and Buying Kambly Biscuits

The place features a biscuit area where visitors can try a variety of biscuits and chocolates. Here, you can sample some of Kambly’s delicious biscuits. The tasting session is a great opportunity to try some of the company’s signature products, such as its chocolate-covered biscuits, butter biscuits, flavored biscuits (lemon, coconut), and almond thins.

In addition to being the highlight of the whole Kambly Experience, this is also the busiest part of the store. The biscuits that are displayed across many shelves can be tried by everyone. It’s a lot of fun. Bring your own bottle of water since there are no drinking stations.

We tried several different biscuits, including some that we had never tried before. Not all of the Kambly biscuits that exist can be bought in your local shops, so you might discover new ones there! There are also areas where Kambly products can be bought as gifts or souvenirs right beside the shelves.

In spite of the fact that we don’t do this anymore due to time constraints and pre-booking requirements, we saw the children who did, and it looked quite interesting. The website offers different baking experiences for children and groups.

Additionally, the Kambly Experience has a café where visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea along with some delicious biscuits and chocolates. They also have desserts made by their Master Confectioners. Kambly Café was very busy when we visited, and it was nice to have a spot where parents could wait for their children who were baking or simply spend some time in the Kambly Experience.

Overall, Kambly Experience is a perfect place for those who love to explore the world of biscuits and chocolates. The place offers a unique experience that is both educational and fun.

Kambly Play Area

Younger children might enjoy the small play area beside the biscuit house. We didn’t really use it since our kids are a bit older now.

It is possible for parents to sit down while their children play. It is not very large, however, so it is unlikely to keep your child entertained for long.

The Kambly Shop is a must-visit for anyone who loves biscuits and cookies. Foodies and lovers of high-quality products will find this shop in the picturesque Emmental region of Switzerland.

We all have different preferences and tastes, and there is sure to be something for everyone. Besides sweet foods, they also make salty treats like goldfish biscuits and Apéro sticks.

Getting there..

From Lucerne, you can take the Luzern-Interlaken Express to Interlaken Ost. The journey then continues via Thun to Bern, the capital of Switzerland. The BLS RegioExpress takes you through the Emmental Valley to Trubschachen and the Kambly Experience. From here, a connection back to Lucerne runs every 30 minutes.

You can buy your ticket for the round trip at Zentralbahn Travel Centres, at all other railway ticket counters in Switzerland or via the SBB online timetable . Admission to the Kambly Experience is free of charge.

The Kambly train runs between Bern, Trubschachen and Lucerne to connect the excursion destinations along the line with each other. The train features low-floor entrances for travellers with disabilities or with pushchairs and large panoramic windows. There is a catering area located in the central section of the train. Passengers can purchase Kambly specialities and other sweet and savoury snacks. Also available are cold drinks and a range of coffees as well as tea and soups.
