Private Champagne Tours
Paris Luxury Tours offers two private guided Champagne tours. France visitors can choose from either our Classic France Champagne tours or our much more expensive Super Luxury Escorted Champagne excursions. Both are private and both provide clients with an exceptional in-depth look at the terroir of Champagne and what makes sparkling wine in Champagne the unique drink that it is.
For an even deeper immersion in the wines of Champagne, consider our Two Day Tour of Champagne, which entails one over-night and is found in our over-night wine tours section.
With our Champagne tours, France visitors can count on having memorably delightful excursions. In both Champagne tours, France visitors will experience privileged visits at two of the most informative and enjoyable Champagne houses who also make superb wine. Their doors are not always open to the public but you will be received by a member of their staff who will take you through their infrastructure and explain the improbably complex process of making fine sparkling wine in Champagne.
Classic France Champagne Tours
With a two hour drive east of Paris, our classic France Champagne tours take you on enchanting journeys through Champagne. Home of the fabled drink, site of one of France’s great Gothic cathedrals in Reims, Champagne has countryside so cultivated and groomed that you will hardly recognise it as agriculture. Our France Champagne tours are led by guides who speak English as natural first language, who have expert knowledge of the wines of Champagne and how they are produced. During the drive, if you wish, our guide will explain clearly in simple terms what makes the terroir and therefore the grapes of Champagne unique and nearly impossible to replicate anywhere else in the world.
Of its roughly 5,000 vintners, you will visit two of the finest in Champagne, one in the morning and the second in the afternoon. Among our favorites to visit are: Ruinart, Veuve Clicquot and Lanson in Reims, Gosset and Moët & Chandon in Epernay, Deutz, Bollinger and Henri Giraud in Aÿ and Philipponnat in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. If you book many months in advance, we may be able to book you at Krug in Reims, Billecart Salmon in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ or Perrier-Jouët in Epernay. Some visits take place partly many meters underground in Gallo-Roman “crayeres” (quarries from which Roman builders extracted blocks of chalk to build their towns). They include some of the most sumptuous and informative champagne tours available.
After your morning wine estate visit, depending on where you choose to have lunch, we may drive you over the ‘Reims Mountain,’ across the Marne River Valley, to the Côte des Blancs. We can help you choose from a wide selection of excellent dining options, such as brasseries like Boulingrin, Flo and Le Jardin in Reims or Le Bellevue in Champillon and La Table Kobus in Epernay. You can also consider one of the Michelin single, double and triple star restaurants of which there is a constellation of choice in Tinqueux, Reims, Montchenot and Epernay.
Following your second Champagne house visit in the afternoon, our Classic Paris Luxury Tour of Champagne might take you to the picture postcard village of Hautvillers, where the monk who allegedly ‘invented’ Champagne lived and worked in its abbey, Dom Perignon. From there you will have a breath-taking view of some of the finest pinot noir vineyards that slope southward toward Epernay in the distance. We can stop at the abbey church, where Doms Perignon and Ruinart are entombed.
At the end of this tour, we will drive you through some 30 kilometers of pinot noir vineyards, many grand cru, on the south-facing slopes of the Marne River Valley where you will be able to admire Veuve Clicquot’s Chateau de Boursault from a distance, before we conclude our trip by re-joining the A4 auto-route back to Paris.
Super Luxury Champagne Tours France
For our most sumptuous private Champagne tours, France visitors are collected in a Mercedes Class S sedan (or equivalent) to travel in a more luxurious way. In addition to the Champagne wine tour details given above, guests of this excursion will be received privately at each of the two Champagne houses with their own personal guide, and they will enjoy a multi-course lunch that is prepared by a renowned French chef. Your chef chooses a unique Champagne wine to not only accompany each course, but also to inspire the selection of ingredients, composition and preparation of each course, ensuring perfect harmony between the dish and the wine that accompanies it. Add the further requirements that the components be organically produced and in-season to complete the picture of a truly memorable meal.
Interested In Our exquisite private Champagne tours?
The price of our private Super Luxury Champagne Tour is distinctly more expensive, reflecting its inclusions. We will provide a quotation when you give us the date on which you wish to schedule it. That is because the chefs who have the talent required to prepare your individually conceived multi-course meal are not always available.
“Shahin, Just a quick note to let you know how much we enjoyed the tour of the Loire Valley [Custom Loire Valley Day Tour from Paris of 2 chateaux and 1 wine estate]. Let me start by saying the best part of the trip was meeting you and listening and learning about the history of France and specifically Chenonceaux. Your comments and guidance throughout the day made the experience far more than just a sight-seeing trip. Lunch was great and so were Amboise and the wine tasting. I can’t thank you enough for putting this tour together for us, we will enjoy the memories for years to come. Merci beaucoup,”

Our tour of Champagne was an incredible experience and we have only amazing things to say about our guides, Joel and Constance. They were so friendly, helpful, and really took the time to answer all our questions. They also took us to many stunning viewpoints! We tried 7 different champagnes and loved learning about the history behind the champagne houses and the region. If you’re in Paris, definitely don’t hesitate to do one of these tours if you’re thinking about it as it really enriched our understanding of France.
This trip was amazing and our guide Bastien was fantastic! The lunch was so delicious. Everything about this day was great, from the individualized attention, the warm croissant the tour guide throughout the drive and the day.
It was beautiful, knowledgeable and really enjoyable
We had the best time during our visit to Reims. Our guide Mathilde was kind and very knowledgeable. The restaurant was one of the best meals we have ever had. Ruinart and Veuve were absolutely beautiful. The booking process with winedays was very easy and they were very helpful. Thank you for a memorable day!
This was PERFECT! Did a single day from PARIS and it was wonderful. Next time will let them plan several days. I am a consultant and this design of day was perfection. Praise to Jean Baptiste – nicest guy, super welcoming and helpful.

Champagne Private Day Trip Description
This full-day tour includes:
Round-trip, private luxury transportation from Paris
Tastings at two champagne houses
Free time in Épernay for lunch
A visit to the famous cathedral in Reims
Cathedral in Reims Tour
Before we get some bubbles in you, visit the Reims Cathedral in the capital city of the Champagne region. The site of dozens of coronations, the Notre Dame de Reims has even witnessed a crowning in 1429 that Joan of Arc attended. Take some time to enjoy the phenomenal architecture and learn about the important role it played in the history of the French royals. Regarded as one of the greatest examples of Gothic architecture in Europe, the interior features stained glass that ranges from the 13th to the 20th century.
Famous Taittinger Champagne
After exploring the Reims Cathedral, it's time for the main attraction of this private Paris day trip. One of the most well-known names in the region, Taittinger Champagne is a heavy hitter in the production of sparkling wine. Enjoy a tour of the champagne cellars to learn more about how the wine is produced from 288 hectares of vineyards. Then, enjoy some of the finest Taittinger Champagne now that you appreciate how it's made even more.
While we do our best to visit the Taittinger Champagne house, sometimes we substitute this stop for another exceptional Champagne house in the area based on availability.
Lunch in Épernay
After your tasting at Taittinger, visit the charming French town of Épernay. The historical market center of the Champagne region, check out some of the boutique wine shops and enjoy some free time to eat lunch. Champagne connoisseurs from all over the world consider Épernay one of the best destinations, with over 300 champagne crus to savor. Plus, Épernay also features beautiful architecture and gardens.
Lunch is not included in the price of this tour, but your guide will have plenty of suggestions!
Abbey of Hautvillers in Reims
The Abbaye Saint-Pierre d’Hautvillers is also in Reims. This is where champagne connoisseurs travel to pay their respects to the monk Dom Pérignon. A pioneer in the champagne industry, the Benedictine monk paved the way to perfect the champagne-making process. While Dom Pérignon did not invent champagne, he made significant contributions to it.
Local Champagne Vineyard
Visit a small, family-owned champagne house, then compare the champagne-tasting experience with that of Taittinger. See for yourself what makes a family-owned house different from a large, world-famous one. Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonay are the main grapes used in almost all types of official French champagne. And by the end of your private tour in the Champagne region, you'll probably be able to spot the difference.
Finally, after you've come, seen, and tasted, it's time to return to Paris. Climb aboard your comfortable private transportation and enjoy the scenic journey back to your accommodations in Paris.

A great way to spend a whole day when in France. My sisters and I had a lovely time, very relaxed. Our driver was very kind and pleasant. We used Tour guy 3x on our vacation and had the best experience each time!
I love my bubbly!
This was a honeymoon trip for my husband and myself. Our driver picked us up at our hotel and our adventure began. It was morning, so we were a bit sleepy and the driver let us snooze a little. As we got closer, he started explaining the area of Champagne. We ended up at two different champagne houses and had a great place for lunch. Highly recommend!
Champagne tour
Our driver, tour guide did not speak much English and could not educate us about the sites, scenery along the beautiful drive to our first winery in Champagne. He did guide us to a great place for lunch. We went to 2 wineries, the first was fabulous and gave the 3 of us a private tour when the other large group was late. The second was also a newer winery, but not very sophisticated, only used one grape and we left early. Would have been much better had we gone to an older, different winery to get a better experience of the region.

Traveller review: “We had a great time. This private tour was well worth the cost. Our tour guide, Madga, was amazing.
She introduced us to the best croissants in Reims, entertained us with her fabulous stories, and showed us great views of Eparny.
One point of attention – at the houses, we did a lot of standard tours, so we heard the same facts about champagne making 3 or 4 times by the end of the day – so it was a little redundant.
That’s really the only negative.
Otherwise, this is a great way to see a big house and discover some unique, smaller houses.”
Things to know before going on a Private Champagne tour from Paris
If you want to enjoy a day of extravagance and exuberance, there’s nothing quite like an exquisite Private Champagne Tour from Paris – but before setting off on your journey, here are some things you should be aware of.
Dress nicely
For a successful outing, it’s essential to dress the part! Generally, people prefer to show up in their best attire; thus, you too should dress smartly.
Comfortable shoes
When choosing your footwear for the tour, it is important to prioritize comfort.
After all, you’ll be walking around most of the day!
Additionally, some cellars require navigating up and down multiple staircases – sometimes as many as 130 steps – so make sure that your shoes can handle a bit of a challenge.
Bring a jumper/jacket
Even on a warm summers day, it’s still wise to bring along something extra for warmth.
Layers or a jacket should do the trick, as cellars can often be quite chilly and you may not want to risk getting cold!
Make sure you know the details about the tour
It is essential to be aware of the specifics of your pick up and drop off locations in order for you to make the absolute most out of your Private Champagne Tour.
Before you go on the tour, make sure to confirm if there are any local regulations requiring travelers such as yourself to wear a mask or bring hand sanitizer with them.
Learn some basic French phrases
It’s also a great idea to learn a few key French phrases before taking the tour.
Utilizing some common words and phrases like ‘Bonjour’ (hello) and ‘Merci’ (thank you) can create an unforgettable journey for everyone involved.

Explore the best of Champagne in one day
From 8 a.m., your private driver will pick you up at your hotel in Paris to drive you in the direction of Reims, located just 1.5 hours’ drive from Paris. All day long, your driver will suggest you several stops including a first one, in a cellar of one of the most famous champagne houses, such as Veuve Clicquot , Taittinger , Moët & Chandon , Mumm or even Pommery . This visit will be led by a guide from the house itself, who will introduce you to their vineyards, their cellars, as well as their champagne-making process and secrets of production, without forgetting a tasting session alongside a Sommelier . After this visit, your driver will drop you off in the heart of Reims city and then leave you for 30 to 45 minutes of free time to discover at your own the emblematic Reims Cathedral , which is the coronation place of the kings of France. For lunch (at your expense), a table will be booked for you in one of restaurants in Reims. A picnic in the middle of the vineyards may be possible (depending on the season and optional).
An afternoon with an authentic and passionate champagne grower
Following your lunch, you will meet your chauffeur to set off on the Champagne route, in a natural setting of vineyards, towards an authentic family-owned wine house, near Reims city. In the heart of the vineyards, you will meet a small grower who will open his doors to you on their passion and their know-how around this famous drink. You will experience a moment of discovery in a more intimate house than the other big houses in the region, in order to better understand the universe of this sparkling and unique drink. You will visit the cellars, the cuves and discover all the wine-making and bottling process. Then, the small grower, a true enthusiast person, will be glad to invite you to taste 3 of their cuvées. At the end of this guided tour, you can buy and bring back bottles as a souvenir at home.
Enjoy other experiences between Hautvillers and Épernay
Your day trip will end with a stop in the charming typical and unusual village of Hautvillers, where the famous Dom Pérignon has invented champagne in the 18th century, and where there is a beautiful and old Benedictine abbey. If the weather permits, your driver can stop you in this village for a “photo stop” and you may also take time to stroll around freely in Hautvillers village. According to your wishes, your chauffeur can also drive you to a friendly place in Hautvillers, called "Au 36" Champagne bar, for another tasting session. It should be the perfect moment to taste local specialties such as their "Champard 'ises' (optional). There is a wide choice of other regional products that you can taste, a selection of nice souvenirs and jewelery that you can afford, and of course some of bottles of champagne from the region that you can buy to bring back home (6 bottles per box). With My Daily Driver, everything is possible. Before booking this private tour, you can let us know your wishes and preferences to spend the best day in Champagne region. This moment in the village of Hautvillers can be replaced by a stop in Épernay city to make you live another moment in one of the most prestigious houses, located in the avenue de Champagne, nicknamed as being the “Champs - Élysées d'Épernay” and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. How to Get The Best From Your Day Trip to Champagne from Paris
One of the things I highly recommend doing before your tour is to read up about the history of champagne .
Understanding a little about the region and how champagne was invented, adds more to the whole experience.
So, to make things easy, I’m giving you a potted history of my favourite sparkling wine.
The Roman Roots
Before Champagne became the sparkling sensation we know today, the Romans were the first to plant vineyards in this French region.
However, the wine they produced was still and more of a pale pinkish hue. The Romans laid the groundwork, but the bubbles were yet to come.
The Accidental Fizz
Enter Dom Pérignon, a Benedictine monk who joined the abbey in 1668. Contrary to popular myths, he didn’t invent Champagne.
In fact, he was trying to eliminate the bubbles, which were considered a defect at the time.
The bubbles were a result of halted fermentation during the cold winters. When spring arrived, the yeast resumed its activity, leading to the fizz.
Dom Pérignon worked diligently to improve the quality of the wines, doubling the size of the terroir to 20 hectares and favouring Pinot Noir over other varieties.
His meticulous methods laid the foundation for the Champagne we enjoy today.
The British Influence
While the French were trying to eliminate the bubbles, the British were embracing them. They even developed stronger glass bottles to withstand the pressure.
The British market played a significant role in making sparkling Champagne popular.
The Rise of Sparkling Champagne
After the death of Louis XIV, the Duke of Orléans made sparkling Champagne popular among the French nobility. This led to the establishment of renowned Champagne houses like Moët & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot , setting the stage for Champagne’s global acclaim.
The World Wars
The early 20th century was a challenging period for the Champagne region, as it became a battlefield during the World Wars. During the German occupation in World War II, soldiers stole more than 2 million bottles from winemakers in the Champagne region.
Otto Klaebisch, a Nazi-appointed officer, was put in charge of the region and demanded as many as 400,000 bottles per week for Germany.
But the winemakers got their own back by hiding their best bottles behind secret walls in their cellars or mislabelling them.
François Taittinger of the eponymous house was even jailed for a few days for his insolence when he sent subpar Champagne to the Germans.
Modern Times
Today, Champagne is more than just a drink; it symbolises celebration and luxury.
The region produces over 200 million bottles annually, and its popularity has led to discussions about expanding the production zone to meet the ever-growing demand.
How to Choose the Perfect Champagne Tour
As with anything, it all comes down to personal preferences. For some, it will be more about budget and the cost of the tour, for others, it might be which champagne estate you’re visiting.
So, as a quick reference point, I’ve ranked the tours by their main feature:
🌟 5-star – VIP Champagne Wine Tour with Michelin Lunch
🗝 Private – Private Tour of Champagne from your hotel in Paris
💰 Best Price – Champagne Day Trip to Veuve Clicquot
🥂 Groups – Reims: Small-Group Champagne Tour with Tastings & Lunch
Fun Facts About Champagne
Before you go, I want to share some fun facts about champagne I learned when I visited La Cité du Vin in Bordeaux . If you’ve not been, it’s definitely worth going. Hubby and I spent three hours in there, and I could have spent longer.
It covers wine from around the world and has a fabulous 5 Senses Bar area that was a lot of fun. And that’s where I learned all about how champagne came into being and what makes it my favourite bubbly drink.
Not to mention that Bordeaux is such a great city and less than two hours from Paris.
It’s All About Location: First off, there’s no grape or town named “Champagne.” The name is all about the region in North Eastern France where this bubbly is crafted. So, if it’s not from this specific corner of France, it’s not Champagne. It’s as simple as that!
Exclusive Naming Rights: Speaking of location, only sparkling wine from this particular region can legally be called “Champagne.” Even if a neighbouring French region produces a similar bubbly, they can’t use the prestigious name.
It’s better on the waistline: Good news for the health-conscious! Champagne typically contains fewer calories than red or white wine. A 750ml bottle has around 600 calories.
Twice as Nice: What sets Champagne apart from other wines is its double fermentation process. The first round gives you a still wine, and the second adds that iconic fizz.
The Devil’s Wine: In its early days, the pressure inside the champagne bottles was so intense that many would explode. This led to the wine being called ‘ le vin du diable ‘ or ‘ the devil’s wine .’ Modern bottles are designed to withstand this pressure, making them far less devilish!
5 Top Tips on Tasting Champagne
So now you know the history behind champagne along with some of the fun facts I’ve learned along the way, it’s time for a quick tasting lesson.
Wine tasting , or champagne tasting in this case, is all part of the experience. These quick tips should help and they’re what I’ve learned from some of the champagne tours I’ve been on.
No 1 Hold the Glass Correctly
Always hold the glass by the stem. This ensures you don’t warm the champagne with your hand, which could alter its taste.
No 2 Look Before You Sip
Take a moment to observe the colour and bubbles. A good champagne will have a consistent stream of tiny bubbles rising to the top.
No 3 The Art of the Aroma
Gently inhale the bouquet of the champagne to take in its complex scent profile. Look for a harmonious blend of fruitiness, nuttiness, and perhaps even a touch of bready richness.
No 4 Small Sips
Take small sips and let the Champagne roll around your tongue. This allows you to experience the full range of flavours.
No 5 Pair Wisely
If you’re tasting different types, start with the lighter styles and work your way to the more robust ones. This ensures that the stronger flavours don’t overpower the subtler ones.

Private Champagne tours from Paris
If visiting Paris for a few days, you shouldn’t miss the world famous Champagne-producing region that lies only 160km (100 miles) away.
Everybody knows the historical, romantic and cosmopolitan side of Paris, but very less people take time to discover its surrounding Champagne region and quaint vineyards. Right at the outskirts of Paris, one can visit impressive underground chalk cellars, meet wine makers to understand the Champagne-making processes, and discover different types of locally produced Champagne.
We based in Paris and we offer day tours to the Champagne region with convenient hotel pick up and drop off within Paris city. Our private Champagne tours are available in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Cantonese language. Our private wine tours are catered for a maximum of 7 people, but more guests can be accommodated via special request.
I, Peggy, will take care of the selection of the wineries based on your preferences. Also, I will choose a nice restaurant for your lunch, and plan the most scenic country roads I know. Our passionate and experienced licensed guides will make sure you have a fun and informative day. You’ll not only learn about Champagne, you’ll also get to know some interesting history and stories related to the Champagne region, as well as learning about Paris and France in general!
You can either choose one of our suggested itineraries, or you can customize the tour according to your preferences.
Here are some of our suggested itineraries:
Authentic Champagne Tour
We’ll visit two small Champagne producers operating with different producing styles and one well-known Champagne house. Please see this itinerary’s example here .
This private wine tour feels more authentic because you will observe a more traditional way of making Champagne, and you will be able to ask questions directly to the wine maker or the person in charge. Another perk is the visit to one of the bigger Champagne houses – such as Veuve Clicquot, Taittinger, Pommery, Ruinart, Billecart Salmon, Mercier, Moët, Dom Perignon, and Mumm (upon availability) – , because their cellars are really impressive. At the end of the tour, you’ll be able to compare the luxury brands of Champagne against the taste of artisanally produced Champagne.
Champagne and Reims Cathedral / Hautvillers Church Tour
We’ll visit one well-known Champagne house and one small Champagne producer. Besides, we can add in a cultural visit such as the cathedral in Reims or the resting place of Dom Perignon in Hautvillers village, the birthplace of Champagne in our private Champagne tours from Paris.
The cathedral in Reims is one of the most stunning masterpieces of 13 th century Gothic art in France and was classified as World Heritage of UNESCO. This is the place where King Clovis, the first king of France was baptized and almost all the French kings were crowned.
Dom Perignon, the spiritual father of Champagne, was the prosecutor and cellarer at the Benedictine abbey in Hautvillers village for 47 years, until his death in 1715. You’ll find his resting place in the abbey church. Dom Perignon contributed several major elements to Champagne making, which remain the important components of the Champagne making process to this day.
Champagne and Local Savoir-Faire Tour
Our private Champagne tours from Paris will bring you to visit one well-known Champagne house and one local artisan of your choice amongst cooperage/snail farm/ foie gras farm. These local artisans could include Champagne tasting in their visit as well.
* Please Note that Snail farm is not available from October to mid March.
Champagne Cellar Tour
We’ll visit two well-known Champagne houses with different style of cellars in Reims and in Epernay. Depending on your choice of Champagne house, we might be able to add a cultural visit such as the resting place of Dom Perignon, or Reims Cathedral in your private Champagne tour.
Champagne Hot Air Balloon 2 Days Tour
Flying in a hot air balloon over the Champagne region is a fabulous experience and a highlight of any trip to France. We’ll prepare the hot air balloon together by unfolding it, inflating it with hot air and, of course, we’ll jump in before it takes off!
Your hot air balloon ride will start near Reims at sunrise or sunset. You’ll be able to get a unique bird’s eye view of the beautiful countryside, vineyards, farmlands and forest. After landing, we’ll celebrate this magical experience with a glass of Champagne while watching the sunrise or sunset.
You can further customize your itinerary with different activities listed in the tours above.
This private Champagne tour from Paris includes an overnight stay in the Champagne region, because flying at sunrise requires an early start (around 6 a.m.), while the sunset trip ends too late to return to Paris (about 10/10.30 p.m.). Please also note that, since the hot air balloon tour depend largely on the weather, it might be canceled in case of averse conditions. An overnight on site gives you at least two chances to successfully take off.
We’ll suggest the accommodation based on your preferred style and your budget. Champagne producers run cozy and comfortable bed and breakfast operations nearby. Staying in a Champagne-producing small village is a unique experience.
* Please Note that Hot air balloon rides are not available from November to March
Some Customer Comments on Our Private Champagne Tours from Paris
”Peggy was very communicative prior to the trip. We did a private tour for 4 people. She picked us up in Paris and drove to Champagne region and back. She set up the entire day according to our preference–we did 2 small growers and Dom Perignon. Peggy is very knowledgeable and professional. The entire day was informative and special. I would highly recommend this company to anyone wanting to visit the Champagne region.” – Morgan_daigle, Sept 2017
”My wife and I went on a Champagne tour with Peggy during our honeymoon in France, and it was wonderful! We got to see everything from the small, family-owned wineries to the big-name conglomerates, plus vineyards. Needless to say, we learned a ton about Champagne and had a very personalized experience, including being picked up and dropped off at our hotel in Paris. Peggy was very organized, punctual, and friendly, and gave us a wealth of information. This is the perfect experience for honeymooners or for anyone else who is interested in Champagne or wine generally.” – tsk070, Jul 2017
“Peggy and Aurelien did an amazing job creating a memorable day for us in Champagne. We have 2 young kids with us so they made an extra efforts to include some items of interest which were kid friendly. Both Aurelien and Peggy were knowledgeable about the area and were very easy to talk to. They have a working relationship with some smaller boutique wineries so you can have an opportunity to get a close look at the wine making process with a family owned property. There are plenty of big corporate wineries in Champagne so its nice to visit with a smaller wine maker. Their vehicle was very comfortable and they kept the day full of activities. Thanks again for a wonderful time in Champagne.” – Darius J, Aug 2015
“ Going to Champagne with Peggy is educational and entertaining. We worked with Peggy to schedule private tours of a small family owned winery and the Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon underground cellar and tasting. Spend the money to do the Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon tour and tasting!!! How often do you get to sit in a room where Napolean was entertained and sip vintage Dom Perignon? Peggy has an extensive knowledge of champagne from grape to glass. Make sure you play here game of scents. The lunch was quite good, but go hungry as you get a lot of food. ” – Cemckeon, Oct 2013

Selecting the Perfect Champagne Tour from Paris
When choosing a Champagne tour from Paris, consider the type of experience you seek and the duration that fits your schedule. These aspects are crucial in determining the enjoyment and depth of your Champagne discovery.
Private vs Small-Group Options
For a more personalized experience, a private champagne tour allows for a tailor-made itinerary and the undivided attention of an expert guide. It’s ideal if you prefer a more intimate setting or exclusive insights into the Champagne-making process.
In contrast, a Small-Group champagne tour can offer a social dynamic and the chance to meet fellow wine enthusiasts, often at a reduced cost. Both options can provide luxury enhancements if desired, so consider your preferences and budget.
Full-Day vs Half-Day Excursions
A full-day excursion maximizes your time in Champagne, offering comprehensive visits to multiple estates, cellar tours, and extensive tastings. With this option, you’re more likely to enjoy a leisurely lunch and deeper interaction with your guide.
On the other hand, half-day excursions are great if you are pressed for time or wish to combine the tour with other activities in Paris. These tours still provide a satisfying glimpse into the region’s sparkling wines, but expect a faster pace and potentially fewer tastings.

A cornerstone of this vinous marvel is its exclusive double fermentation process, which imparts the signature effervescence renowned worldwide. Initially, vintners craft a still wine, and only through a second fermentation does the wine become vibrantly bubbly.
Known for its picturesque Gothic architecture, Hautvillers is a historic village nestled within the Montagne de Reims. This scenic location is also part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, underscoring the cultural and historical significance of the Champagne-making tradition. Amidst this setting, one can stroll the famed Avenue de Champagne, overshadowed by marquee Champagne houses and vast cellars cradling innumerable, silently ripening bottles.
As for the grapes, the key varietals that contribute to the delicate yet profound complexity of Champagne include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. Each brings a unique character to the blend, from refined elegance to rich fruitiness.

Are Champagne Tours From Paris Worth It? (Ultimate Guide)
Some of the most popular things to do in Paris are Champagne tours and day trips. But are they really worth it?
Typically, you pay a lot of money for the excursion. So naturally you’ll want to make sure that you are getting your money’s worth.
Luckily for you, I have done such trips and know all about it. In short: Yes, Champagne day trips are worth it! But surely not all of them.
One day is not a lot of time to see the Champagne region, so you’ll need to pick a really great tour to make the most of it. And I am here to help you pick!
Let’s get to it!

Are (luxury) champagne tours worth it my take on it, paris day tours to champagne vs. champagne holiday, champagne day trip with 6 tastings, reims cathedral & family winery from paris, champagne vip day trip from paris with local wine expert private, booking a guided tour vs. self-organized, private luxury vs. group tours, best time to visit the champagne region, conclusion: are champagne tours from paris worth it.
I have done Champagne day trips and also visited the region by myself. And I can definitely recommend booking a day trip to Champagne from Paris if you have the time.
The Champagne is definitely worth seeing, and tasting some of the bubbly should be on your Paris bucket list for sure.
The region is just more than an hour outside of Paris, so if you have a couple of days you should reserve a day for this. I am not a fan of self-organizing a one-day trip (read below why) so I would definitely book with a provider.
But keep in mind that some of these tours offered online only visit one or two wineries that are usually not family-owned.
So it can be a bit hard to find good tours, that will provide you a good inside into the region, and not just a superficial touristic program.
Find below two tours that I think are definitely worth it when thinking about going to Champagne.
Author’s Choice
Champagne Trip with 6 Tastings
- Nicolas Feuillatte Winery
- Family-Owned Winery
- Reims Cathedral
- Dom Perignon Grave Visit
- Small Group Tour
Best Private Tour
Private VIP Champagne Day Trip from Paris
- Expert Guide
- Visit to famous wineries (Pommery & Veuve Cliquot)
If I had to choose between visiting Champagne on a day trip from Paris or going on a designated holiday to Champagne I would pick the latter.
I think one day is barely enough to get a good glimpse of the region, so I would definitely opt for a full-blown holiday instead of a day trip.
If you have the time, combine your Paris vacation with a multi-day trip to Champagne. You’ll want to soak up the charm of the region without being rushed from A to B.
However, going for one day is better than not going at all, so I would definitely say that Champagne is worth visiting, even for a day.
🤩 5/5 Stars (440 Reviews)
Duration : 11 hours
Included : 6 glasses of Champagne, Tour of two wineries, local guide
Overall, this Champagne Day Trip from Paris is my first choice when looking for a great guided excursion.
There are two different wineries included in this trip, one of them the famous Nicolas Feuillatte. The second visit will be to a local family-owned winery.
I totally appreciate that you will get to see a bigger estate and a smaller one, to get a true feeling of the region.
Also included in this trip is a visit to the beautiful Reims Cathedral, which is another added bonus.
Lastly, you will stop by the gravestone of Dom Perignon, an important cultural site for Champagne lovers.
The group size is limited to 8 people, which is perfect in my opinion.
There is nothing not to love about this day tour to Champagne from Paris.
🤩 5/5 Stars (30 Reviews)
Included : Lunch, Visits to several wineries (including Pommery and Veuve Cliquot)
As far as private excursions to Champagne go, this Champagne VIP Day Trip from Paris is my favorite. This Champagne Tour is definitely worth it.
This tour has everything included that you could possibly need: a private guide who is also a vineyard owner, visits to the most esteemed wineries, and a traditional French lunch.
The best thing about it is you can enjoy it without having to be part of a bigger group!
Obviously, private tours come with a price tag. Since you can bring a couple of people on this trip, I feel the price is quite right.
Overall, you can’t go wrong with this day trip – especially since you can always amend the itinerary to your preferences.
There are both pros and cons to booking a guided tour to the Champagne area from Paris versus organizing a day trip there yourself.
While organized tours are generally a little bit more expensive, they have a lot of perks.
The fact that you won’t need to worry about transportation is the biggest one.
Going from Paris to Epernay or Reims by train is easy. Getting around there not so much. Especially between the little villages of the Champagne Region, there is no proper public transport.
Another big perk is availability. Bigger Champagne houses are usually booked up way in advance. Going on a guided tour can help you there for sure since they always have slots on reserve.
The same goes for lunch restaurants. We had such a hard time finding available spots – you won’t have to look around on a guided tour.
Lastly, you’ll want to have a drink or two on this tour. It helps to have a reliable driver or tour guide to take care of the organization and the driving . There is no fun in tipsily trying to navigate back to Paris by yourself.
Of course, there are pros and cons to going with a smaller group or booking a private tour. There are a lot of private tours from Paris to Champagne, and you are probably wondering by now if they are worth it.
Generally, I think it is always worth splurging for a private trip if you are more than two people. This way, you barely pay more than in a group tour.
One thing to be cautious of when booking private luxury tours from Paris to Champagne is these tours that only include the driver. You’ll want a local guide to show you around, and not just a chauffeur that drops you off.
The private tour I suggested above definitely includes a great wine expert who can teach you a lot on your tour. I would say it is worth the money.
Every season in the Champagne region has a different charm.
Especially summer and autumn are considered the peak season in Champagne. Autumn is harvest season, with many festivities and attractions. Both summer and autumn are the most crowded.
I prefer visiting the Champagne region in spring . The weather is usually lovely and the area is a lot more quiet.
France of course is also always a great destination for a Christmas weekend getaway.
In this post you learned about my favorite Day Trips to the Champagne region from Paris and why they are worth it.
Champagne should definitely be on your Paris itinerary, so make sure to put a day trip on your bucket list.
The Champagne Day Trip with 6 Tastings, Reims Cathedral & Family Winery from Paris definitely wins this competition hands down. It is one of the most frequently booked trips out there, and the reviews are raving!
If you prefer booking a private trip, I have also found several great tours for every taste and budget.
If one day in Champagne is not enough, I suggest checking out my 3 Days in Champagne Itinerary.
Another great region in France that wine lovers will absolutely cherish is the Alsace. Their sparkling wine is just as unique, and the Alsace region is great for a road trip.
