Blu-ray release: ‘L-O-V-E…Love’ & ‘Love Cruise’

CN Entertainment are bringing the 1997 Hong Kong comedy ‘L-O-V-E…Love’ and it’s sequel ‘Love Cruise’ to Hong Kong Blu-ray on September 11, 2020.

By Phil Mills   |   Sep 8, 2020

CN Entertainment are bringing the 1997 Hong Kong comedy ‘L-O-V-E…Love’ (超級無敵追女仔) and it’s sequel ‘Love Cruise’ (超級無敵追女仔2之狗仔雄心) to Hong Kong Blu-ray on September 11, 2020.

L-O-V-E…Love (1997) Director: Matt Chow Cast: Natalis Chan , Shu Qi , Vivian Hsu , Michael Tao , Jerry Lamb , Eric Kot , Joyce Chan , Angie Cheung Synopsis: Four single, shallow guys (Natalis Chan, Eric Kot, Jerry Lamb and Michael Tao) comb the beaches for possible hook-ups with scantily dressed girls, but their cup runneth over when they happen across a beach beauty pageant with some of the most beautiful entrants around! They select their four targets (Shu Qi, Vivian Hsu, Joyce Chan and Angie Cheung), and start betting that they’ll be able to score, but the ladies actually seem to view the guys as likable candidates for sweet long-term relationships. This fantasy desire for honest emotion presents the biggest problem for Michael Tao, who’s actually a rich guy who wants someone to love him, not his money. Will his particular target (Shu Qi) love him for who he is? Or will scheming beach bad guys muck up the works?

Love Cruise (1997) Director: Dick Cho Cast: Natalis Chan, Carlo Ng , Emotion Cheung , Kristy Yang , Suki Kwan , Annie Wu , Angie Cheung, Pinky Cheung , Emily Kwan Synopsis: This time, Natalis Chan is joined by Carlo Ng, Ben Wong and Emotion Cheung, while Kristy Yang, Suki Kwan, Annie Wu, Angie Cheung, Pinky Cheung and Emily Kwan are the bikini babes who get their hearts racing. Three paparazzi follow girl group Sweeties onto a cruise in hopes of exposing their private lives. But they end up falling for the girls, and switch course from chasing a story to just chasing the girls. While they’re trying to woo the Sweeties, they also cross paths with paparazzi from a rival tabloid.

Features: • Cantonese/Mandarin audio with English subtitles • Region: All

Both films are available for pre-order now from YesAsia.com .

The Caribbean: treasure your time together

Turquoise waters, swaying palms, secluded white-sand beaches: this is bliss. It’s no wonder the Caribbean is our top destination for weddings, honeymooners and couples just craving an escape. Because sometimes the most romantic thing you can do together is nothing at all.

The Mediterranean: timeless places, priceless moments

Where will you write the next chapters of your love story? Swimming Corfu’s sparkling waters; cozied up in a Venetian gondola; people-watching in a Paris café; biking the Tuscan hills; or strolling the streets of Rome? Let the destination experts take you to these enchanting settings. You two can take it from there. When you share the world with the one you love, you create memories to share forever.

love cruise 2

If you asked me what the most romantic trip I could take with my fiancé would be, my answer would be simple: A trip he planned. For me, facilitating the logistics of our trips is what takes me out of the moment. And that's why I think cruises are inherently perfect for a romantic getaway : Everything is planned for you. The cruise line sets the itinerary for you, including the cities you'll visit, the excursions you'll partake in, and which days you'll spend relaxing by the pool. Plus, if you book an all-inclusive cruise , you won't even have to think about taking your wallet out.

One of the most intimate elements of travel is sharing a new experience with someone you love. And a cruise sails you right up to those new experiences, giving you the chance to see several exciting ports (why choose one place when you can visit several honeymoon destinations during one trip?). Not only that, the luxury of the vessel ups the romance factor, too. From private dining options to couples massages, there are endless opportunities for you and your partner to reconnect. Here are some romantic cruises for couples that suit every travel style.

Seven Seas Explorer , Regent Seven Seas Cruises

For the adventurous couple, Regent Seven Seas Cruises takes care of all the logistics — from round-trip business-class flights to unlimited shore excursions — so you can focus on soaking in the culture together. For an unconventional date night, the Seven Seas Explorer offers Gourmet Explorer Tours, during which you'll explore the food scene in a particular port and then make use of local ingredients in an onboard cooking class.

What Your Itinerary Might Look Like: Travel from Bangkok to Bali onboard the 738-passenger Seven Seas Explorer and enjoy cruising in the Gulf of Thailand, with stops in Singapore and the Thai island of Koh Samui.

Regatta , Oceania Cruises

Oceania Cruises prides itself on offering an elegant ambiance and the Regatta's custom design and nearly 1.6:1 crew-to-traveler ratio only enhance the luxury experience. The suites and veranda staterooms have original art, ocean views, and private terraces. For a romantic day on the ship, start at Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center and finish the evening with a wine tasting in Horizons, the Regatta 's observation lounge.

What Your Itinerary Might Look Like: The 694-guest Regatta's voyage from Auckland to Sydney takes you on a two-week tour of the best of New Zealand and Australia. Along the way, you'll stop in New Zealand's Bay of Islands and Otago Peninsula, where you can spot penguins and albatrosses.

Paul Gauguin , Paul Gauguin Cruises

The flagship vessel of Paul Gauguin Cruises feels exclusive and effortlessly luxurious. The 332-passenger ship only visits smaller ports that larger ships can't access and most of the rooms have private, oceanfront balconies. For couples looking for a new activity that will bring them closer and help build trust in their relationship, the Paul Gauguin offers PADI scuba diving programs and certification.

What Your Itinerary Might Look Like: Paul Gauguin Cruises offers a Tahiti and Society Islands seven-night cruise. It includes a day on the company's own private islet, Motu Mahana, and of course, a glamorous stop in Bora Bora.

Emerald Princess, Princess Cruises

The entertainment is endless on the Emerald Princess — from a casino to live theatre to night clubs — but few things beat spending the day with your significant other at the saltwater pools and swirling hot tubs. The ship can accommodate more than 3,000 passengers, but there are plenty of places to share an intimate moment with your partner. For a romantic high-point of your trip, try the Chef's Table Experience, an extravagant multi-course dinner created by the ship’s executive chef.

What Your Itinerary Might Look Like: Their 16-day Hawaiian Islands Cruise leaving from Seattle feels like a honeymoon, whether you have no plans for marriage or you're celebrating 20 years together. You'll get a grand tour of Hawaii, stopping at Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island.

Viking Venus , Viking Ocean Cruises

This exclusive ship carries only 930 people, which means you'll barely have to share the floor-to-ceiling window views of the snow-capped Nordic mountains. It's an all-veranda ship, so every room is set for romance with a private balcony.

What Your Itinerary Might Look Like: For a romantic winter getaway, the Viking Venus sails in search of the northern lights , cruising the North Sea and Norwegian Sea from England to Norway. The seclusion you and your significant other will find sailing through waters few travelers get to explore is unprecedented. Your stops in Norway include cities north of the Arctic Circle such as Tromsø, home to the northernmost botanical garden in the world. And each Arctic night, you and your love are of course scouting for the aurora borealis.

American Queen , American Queen Voyages

The American Queen transports you back in time to the mid-19th century. The spacious decks are a picturesque spot to take in the river views together, and the staff exudes Southern hospitality and charm. The 417-passenger riverboat is ideal for couples who want to explore their own backyard rather than booking an international flight. Plus, their onboard jazz and blues concerts make for an extra-special evening.

What Your Itinerary Might Look Like: American Queen sails from New Orleans to Memphis . After two days in NOLA, you'll set sail on the Mississippi to visit several other cities along the river.

Zuiderdam , Holland America Line

For the artistic couple, Holland America Line takes great care to decorate their interiors with enviable art and antiques. On board this 1,964-passenger vessel, you'll find plenty of activities. If you're looking for a romantic cruise but can't leave the kids at home, Zuiderdam is a ship that caters to both adults and kids, with the Greenhouse Spa & Salon for you and your S.O., and Club Hal for the children.

What Your Itinerary Might Look Like: Find love in the Caribbean on Holland America Line's Panama Canal Sunfarer cruise. With stops in the Curaçao, Colombia, and Costa Rica, the cruise satisfies your craving for a romantic beach getaway, new cities, and a jungle adventure in one fell swoop.

Evrima , The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection

Christopher Cypert/Courtesy of Ritz-Carlton

With its six restaurants, six bars, and two pools on board — plus plenty of over-the-top hotel amenities — The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s Evrima is basically an all-inclusive luxury resort at sea. Couples can look forward to sipping reserve-list wine while listening to live jazz; indulging in a deep-tissue massage; or relaxing by the infinity pool. All 149 suites have private terraces, giving you and your partner your own space to soak in the sights — whether you're cruising around the Mediterranean or sailing to Caribbean islands. Guests are assigned a personal concierge when they step on board, ensuring that every detail of their romantic getaway is planned to perfection.

What Your Itinerary Might Look Like:   Evrima offers five-, seven-, 10-, and 12-night voyages. A five-night voyage from Athens , for example, gives cruisers the chance to explore the ancient ruins of Ephesus, Turkey, before sailing to Santorini and Milos in Greece, where couples can take in spectacular views, explore historical sites, or hit the beach, before heading back to Athens.

Scarlet Lady , Virgin Voyages

Courtesy of Virgin Voyages

A screaming toddler can instantly kill the mood on a romantic cruise. This is where Virgin Voyages’ adults-only Scarlet Lady comes into play. With 11 eateries, 9 bars, and a two-story nightclub, the 2,750-passenger ship is geared toward couples who love to party as much as they like to sightsee. Most of the cabins have balconies with hammocks, and couples who opt for one of the RockStar suites will enjoy additional perks like priority boarding and access to a personal agent who handles all your day-to-day needs. Couples can indulge in alternative activities like getting inked at the onboard tattoo parlor or lying back on daybeds at the outdoor lounge The Dock to stargaze at sea.  What Your Itinerary Might Look Like: On the four-night Fire & Sunset Soirées cruise, the fun begins in Miami, before cruising down to Key West where you can explore by bike, catamaran, or kayak. The boat then stops at Virgin Voyages’ private beach club in Bimini, Bahamas, where cruisers can opt to relax by the pool or spot dolphins in the wild before the ship heads back to Miami.

AmaLucia , Adventures by Disney and AmaWaterways

For couples looking for a slow-paced epicurean adventure through Europe, a river cruise with Adventures by Disney and AmaWaterways could strike the perfect balance between fun-filled and tranquil. Gone are the days of river cruising being only for retirees. New itineraries are jam-packed with activities, from wine tastings and pub tours to exploring towns by bike. The 156-passenger AmaLucia is an ideal vessel for the experience, thanks to its twin-balcony staterooms, a fleet of complimentary bikes, and a sun-deck pool with a swim-up bar.

What Your Itinerary Might Look Like: On Adventures by Disney’s eight-day Rhine River Cruise , you’ll depart from Basel, Switzerland, and sail along the Rhine River while stopping in France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Activities might include a macaron-making class, a pub tour, or a visit to medieval wine caves. You’ll disembark in Amsterdam, where you and your significant other can continue exploring or fly home after a week of wining and dining.

Choosing the perfect cruise

Choosing a cruise line can seem overwhelming, but don’t worry – I’m here to help! To start, think about what kind of travel experience you want. Are you all about luxury and fancy amenities or looking for a more relaxed vibe? Maybe you’re drawn to a specific destination or entertainment theme? Once you have an idea of what you’re looking for, it’s a good idea to do some research on different cruise companies and read reviews to get a sense of what the experience will be like. Other important factors to consider include on-board amenities, dining options, cabin sizes, and, of course, pricing. With these things in mind, finding the perfect cruise line for your dream vacation will be a breeze!

There are a bunch of different cruise lines to choose from so you have many choices. Azamara, Carnival Cruise Line, Celebrity, Crystal, Cunard, Disney, Holland America, MSC, Norwegian, Oceania, Ponant, Princess, Regent Seven Seas, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn, Silversea, Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Viking, Virgin Voyages, and Windstar.

With so many cruise lines and so many ships, your options are wide open. I am going to focus on Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Norwegian Cruise Lines.

How much should I REALLY expect to pay?

Have you been considering a cruise but aren’t sure how much it’ll cost? The price can vary quite a bit depending on what you’re looking for. If you’re wanting to go to some exotic destinations or take a longer cruise, it might be pricier than some of the more budget-friendly options. Plus, luxury cruise lines with more amenities and services are going to come at a higher cost. And don’t forget to factor in expenses like shore excursions, drinks and dining options, and transportation to and from the port of embarkation. On average, a week-long cruise can range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars per person. With a little research and planning, it’s totally possible to find the right cruise for your needs and budget.

The first thing people typically think of first is the cost. Years ago cruising was expensive and many people couldn’t afford to cruise. Things are different today, cruising is very affordable and anyone who goes to Myrtle Beach or Pigeon Forge each year can afford to cruise. Let me break down the math for you.

A family of 4 can get an ocean view room on a Carnival ship for 7 days with 4 stops and 2 sea days for $2,863.00. That includes your gratuities also. That’s all inclusive. From that point, you don’t have to buy anything else. That’s your room, all of the food you can imagine, your port fees, everything. That averages $715.75 per person, for the 7 days. That’s $102.25 a day per person for a 7 day cruise. Now you show me how you can go anywhere on vacation for $102.25 per person where that includes your lodging, meals and entertainment.

love cruise 2

Cruises are a fantastic way to relax and enjoy the many amenities and activities included in the price. However, it’s worth noting that some things like alcoholic drinks, specialty dining, shore excursions, spa treatments, WiFi, and gratuities may come at an extra cost. Don’t worry though, many cruise lines offer packages that can help you save on these extras. It’s always a good idea to budget for these additional costs ahead of time so that you can fully enjoy your cruise without having to worry about overspending.

When you’re budgeting your cruise, add about 60% of what you plan on spending to that total. You will want it, though you may not need it. Everything is included in your final cost of the trip.

However, there are optional things that cost that you will probably purchase while on your voyage. The casino, alcohol, sodas, excursions, spa, pictures and shopping all cost extra. You can get by with spending $0 as long as your gratuities are paid in full up front and you don’t do any of those extra things I just mentioned. You will probably want to do at least one of them though. After all, you’re on vacation.

The amount of deposit needed for your cruise depends on the cruise line and itinerary you choose. Most cruise lines will ask for a deposit of around 10-25% of the total fare to confirm your booking. Depending on the cruise you choose, the required deposit may be higher or lower, or may be affected by promotions or sales. Keep in mind that the deposit is typically due at the time of booking and is non-refundable if you end up needing to cancel. However, some cruise lines might offer a penalty-free cancellation period, usually within a few days of booking. It’s always a good idea to check the specific deposit requirements and cancellation policies before you book.

On occasion, Carnival has a special where you can put a deposit on a cruise for just $50. If you’re smart and plan ahead, you can put a $50 deposit down on a cruise a year or 2 in advance and make payments on that cruise leading up to the final cut off payment date of the cruise. If you use the $2,863 total I mentioned above and make payments over 20 months  (booking the cruise 2 years out) , you can make a $140 a month payment then won’t owe anything on your cruise. This may be more manageable for people who may be on a tighter monthly budget.

Cost Comparing

Don’t make this more complicated on yourself than it should be. Go to the cruise lines website and get your cost. You’re not going to find it much cheaper anywhere else.

If you’re not comfortable managing your own vacations or using the Internet, then you may want to use a travel agent. They can sometimes get you group rates, on-board credit, upgrades, etc., but they cannot undercut the cruise line per their contract. You can get the same price by booking direct.

Also keep in mind if you use a travel agent, the cruise line cannot talk to you or help you in any way. You have to go through that travel agent. Your best bet is just to book directly with the cruise line. Personally I would never use a travel agent but that’s because I love the researching and planning of my vacations and I want full control over my families vacation. Also something to remember is that you’re at the mercy of your travel agent for anything that you need. If you see a price drop at 7pm on a Friday and your travel agent only works M-F then if the price of the cruise goes back up by Monday morning, you’re out of luck on that price drop. You just lost money.

How many days should I cruise for?

The length of a cruise depends on your personal preference and the destinations you are interested in visiting. If you want to explore multiple destinations that are far apart, a longer cruise of 7-14 days may be best. This allows for more time at each port and more opportunities to participate in onboard activities.

However, if you are looking for a quick getaway or just want to try out cruising for the first time, a shorter cruise of 3-5 days may be more suitable.

Keep in mind that shorter cruises may have less time in each port and focus more on onboard entertainment.

If you want a young party crowd then you probably want a 3-5 day cruise to the Bahamas. The short cruises that are 5 days and shorter typically have a young party crowd on them. They’re also known as “booze cruises”.

Cruises that are 6 days and longer are more for the adult crowd and families. The Alaska cruises typically are geared toward the more older crowd.

Ultimately, the best length of a cruise is one that fits your schedule and budget while providing the experience you are seeking.

What time of the year is best to book a cruise?

Deciding when to go on a cruise can be a bit tricky, but don’t worry, I’m here to help.

Depending on where you want to go and your personal preferences, there are certain times of the year that may work better for you. If you’re fond of warm sunny weather, then summer is the perfect season to set sail to hotspots like the Caribbean, Mediterranean or Alaska. Keep in mind these times are peak season, which also means more crowds and higher prices.

Springtime you’ll see more “booze-cruises” with college and high school graduates taking the short cruises to the Bahamas. You may want to avoid those cruises.

Summertime will have more families since most kids are out of school. If you want to have more kids on board, this is when you want to book.

Fall cruises tend to be a little cheaper since kids are going back to school and it’s also hurricane season.  However, if you’re aiming for more affordable rates and less tourists around, consider cruising during the shoulder season in Spring or Fall. But remember, some destinations have specific seasons that are “must-sees”, like Alaska from May to September and Norway’s fjords between May and September. Taking weather, crowds and pricing considerations into account, you’ll find the perfect time for your dream cruise!

Regardless of  WHEN  you are going to cruise, you need to book your cruise now. Don’t wait until the last minute to book your cruise.

Cruise prices typically don’t drop much as the sail date gets closer. They have no problem selling out cabins and always sail full. They have no reason to drop prices to entice people to book. Book early, that way you lock in the stateroom that you want.

What cabin location should I pick?

First, it’s important to consider your personal comfort. If you tend to get seasick, I recommend selecting a cabin in the middle of the ship as it experiences less motion.

The shortest movement on a fulcrum is the middle and lower points. You feel less motion the lower you go. It’s also typically cheaper to stay lower. Also the ships forward and aft will feel more movement than the center.

For those seeking a peaceful retreat, opt for a cabin away from elevators and high traffic areas. If you prefer a stunning view, consider choosing a cabin with a balcony or window. And for quick access to the pool and upper decks, pick a cabin located near the convenient areas.

Ultimately, it’s vital to consider your preferences while selecting the cabin location.

Before you book, check out the deck plans of the ship you’re wanting to sail on. Also see what stateroom you may want to book. Look at what’s above and below it. You don’t want a stateroom under the lido deck, galley, clubs or theater. If you’re under lido you may hear chairs being moved around early in the morning. If you’re under the theater you may hear the shows going on until past your bedtime. If you’re under the clubs, you’ll hear the music until late at night. If you’re under the galley, well, the galley is open all night so….

To give you an idea, in the following deck plan, I would avoid the following cabins highlighted. The first section I would avoid because it’s right under the galley.

Cabin Types on Carnival ships

Carnival Cruises offer a range of cabin types to suit different budgets and preferences.

The most common cabin types include interior cabins, which have no windows and are typically the most affordable option.

Ocean view cabins feature a porthole or window which allows natural light in and the view of the sea.

Balcony cabins boast a private balcony with outdoor seating to enjoy the sea breeze and the view.

Suite cabins come with additional amenities such as a separate sitting area, larger balconies, and more luxurious furnishings.

Family cabins are designed to accommodate larger groups and often have bunk beds or pull-out sofas.

Carnival also offers accessible cabins and connecting cabins for families or groups traveling together.

Each cabin type comes with its own set of features and benefits, enabling passengers to find the perfect accommodation for their cruise vacation.

Each cabin type is then divided into categories based on their “desirability”. A letter is used to denote the category.

Generally the later the letter is in the alphabet, the more desirable the cabin would be. The more desirable categories will have higher price rates. The more desirable cabins are typically on the middle to upper decks in the center of the ship. Although aft cabins are considered quire desirable.

Other things that affect desirability are obstructions, balcony size, noise, etc. For example, a 1A would be the least desired cabin.

One thing to keep in mind that I see a lot of people misunderstanding is that people book under the “guaranteed upgrade” promotions, thinking they can book an ocean view and their upgrade moves them to a balcony automatically. That’s simply not the case.

They may book their ocean view room in a category 6A room. Their guaranteed upgrade would move them to a 6B room, still an ocean view. In fact, that upgrade room may be only a few doors down from where they originally booked. Don’t be tricked into the misconception that you’re getting a huge upgrade.

Interior Cabins

love cruise 2

Interior cabins on Carnival cruise ships are cozy, comfortable and offer a value for money experience. These cabins do not have windows or balconies and are located on the innermost parts of the ship. They have a king-sized bed (or two twin beds that can be combined) with linens, a small sitting area, a closet and storage area for luggage. Some interior cabins also have additional pull-down beds or bunk beds, which make them ideal for families or groups of friends. The cabins are equipped with a private bathroom with a shower, a flat-screen television, and a telephone. Passengers can also access room service, provided by the ship’s staff. While these cabins are not the most spacious or luxurious on the ship, they provide a comfortable space for passengers to relax and rest after a day of activities and exploring.

  • IS (guaranteed)
  • PT (porthole)
  • 1A (upper & lower)
  • 3J (picture window)
  • 4J (picture window with obstructed view)

Ocean View Cabins

love cruise 2

Ocean view cabins on Carnival Cruise ships are staterooms that offer a window or porthole to the outside of the ship, allowing guests to enjoy views of the ocean and surroundings. These cabins are typically larger than interior cabins and come in a variety of configurations, from single occupancy to family suites. They also feature a range of amenities, including a small seating area, a private bathroom, and a flat-screen television. Depending on the specific ship and cabin category, some ocean view cabins may also include additional perks such as complimentary room service or access to a private lounge. Overall, ocean view cabins offer a comfortable and affordable way to experience a Carnival Cruise while enjoying picturesque views of the open sea.

  • OV (guaranteed)

Balcony Cabins

love cruise 2

Balcony cabins on Carnival cruises are a popular choice for passengers who want to enjoy the ocean views and fresh air without leaving their cabin. These cabins provide a private outdoor space with a seating area and a stunning view of the sea. They are spacious enough to accommodate three or four passengers and come with modern amenities such as a comfortable bed, a flat-screen TV, and a private bathroom. Additionally, some balcony cabins have a sofa bed, making them a great choice for families. Carnival offers various options of balcony cabins depending on the ship and the itinerary, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs and budget. The price of a balcony cabin is generally higher than that of an interior or ocean view cabin, but the added comfort and amenities are worth it for many passengers.

  • BL (guaranteed)
  • 7A (obstructed view)
  • 7C (cove balcony)

Suite Cabins

love cruise 2

Carnival suite cabins are spacious and luxurious accommodations designed for travelers who want to indulge in a more premium experience at sea. They offer a range of amenities, including private balconies, separate bedrooms, living rooms, and dining areas. Some suite cabins even come with whirlpool tubs, wet bars, and walk-in closets. The suite cabins are typically more upscale than standard cabins, with exclusive perks such as priority embarkation and debarkation, access to private lounges, and dedicated concierge services. Suites vary in size and price, but they are ideal for families, groups, or couples looking for an extra touch of luxury on their Carnival cruise. Whether you want to relax in your private oasis or entertain guests in style, these suite cabins offer the ultimate in comfort and convenience while sailing the high seas.

If you’re looking for a cruise vacation that’s a little bit out of the way and a little bit out of the ordinary, make an Alaska cruise your first choice. Alaska is a natural wonder through and through, and the coastal panhandle region Carnival sails to is perhaps the most stunning. Alaska cruises will do it with quaint seaside towns like Ketchikan and Skagway, and with stunning harbor vistas like Juneau’s. Cruising Alaska will also give you a first-row ticket to the best of nature — including fjords, wildlife and mountains galore.

MAJESTIC VIEWS

As you probably know, Half Moon Cay has been a fan favorite for many years, and when you visit during your next Carnival cruise vacation you’ll understand why it’s anything but a typical destination. Nicole Kidman’s Family Guide: Meet Her Children With Keith Urban and Tom Cruise

Nicole Kidmans Family Guide Meet Her Children With Keith Urban and Tom Cruise

Nicole Kidman ’s greatest role isn’t on the big or small screen. Instead, it’s being the best mom possible to her four children.

“I just always wanted a child,” Nicole, 56, told Vogue Australia in December 2017. “I think from a very early age, I wanted a child. I knew that I was going to have a child and that it didn’t matter [how], I actually didn’t know if I was ever going to give birth to a child. So that was the least of it for me. And what I did first was adopt.”

In 1993, the Big Little Lies actress became a mom for the first time when she and her first husband Tom Cruise adopted their daughter, Bella. A few years later, the pair adopted son Connor into their family.

After the couple divorced in 2001, Kidman went on to find love with country singer and fellow Australian Keith Urban . The pair married in 2016 and welcomed daughters Sunday and Faith.

“If it were the choice between my family and Keith, and my career, I wouldn’t even bat an eyelid,” she told The Australia Women’s Weekly in June 2014. “The most important things to me are the love of our relationship and my children. At this stage of my life, and with time being so precious, the joy I get from us as a family outweighs any joy in any other area of my life, by far.”

Bella Kidman Cruise, 31

Tom, 61, and Nicole adopted daughter Bella shortly after her birth in December 1992.

“From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies,” Nicole told Vanity Fair in 2007. “And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that’s when we would adopt [our daughter] Bella.”

While she was raised outside of the spotlight, Bella graduated from West London’s Delmar Academy of Make-up and Hair, before transitioning to a career in fashion.

Although Bella has an active Instagram , followers shouldn’t expect her to share family moments. Instead, it’s primarily dedicated to her art.

“Her go-to medium was pen and paper for most of her life,” her website states . “However, she is now venturing into other formats and mediums. Including digital. Which has been a bit of a game changer in her opinion. We hope you dig it.”

Connor Cruise, 29

Nicole Kidmans Family Guide Meet Her Children With Keith Urban and Tom Cruise

Nicole and Tom, who wed in 1990, adopted their second child just after his birth in January 1995. In 2008, Connor got a glimpse of the Hollywood spotlight when he starred alongside Will Smith in the drama Seven Pounds . As a teenager, he briefly explored DJ gigs and released a single before making Florida his home.

Although Nicole and Tom divorced six years after their wedding, the actress expressed gratitude for the relationship and the family they created. “I got married really fast and really young,” she told Who Magazine in 2012. “But I don’t regret that because it got me Bella and Connor and I did have a fantastic marriage for a long period.”

According to People , Connor currently resides in the Sunshine State where he fishes and focuses on his barbecuing business, Connor’s Meatshack. “Connor has a pretty simple life in Clearwater,” a source told the publication. “He lives in his own home in a Scientology community. His life is deep-sea fishing. He has a lot of friends and seems very well-liked.”

Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, 15

Nicole Kidmans Family Guide Meet Her Children With Keith Urban and Tom Cruise

Named in honor of the Australian patron of the arts, Sunday Reed, Sunday was born in July 2008 and spent much of her childhood with parents Nicole and Keith, 56, in Tennessee. “My daughters are Nashvillians! They have a southern drawl,” Nicole told People in 2016. “They have some Aussie. They have an unusual mix. They’re hybrids.”

Nicole has dropped hints that Sunday is interested in following in mom’s footsteps. In addition to showing an interest in directing, she’s also participated in theater.

“My daughter just got cast in her school play,” Nicole told E! News in January 2017. “So, that’s been the main priority, learning lines with her.”

And for those who wanted a season 3 of Big Little Lies , Sunday may be responsible for making it possible.

“She has a very good understanding of things and life, so she was hand-held through it,” Nicole revealed to Vogue Australia in January 2024. “She was like, ‘No. There’s no more discussion. The third series has to happen … I’m sick of the talk. Sick of circling it. Just get it done.’”

Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, 13

In December 2010, Nicole and Keith surprised fans when they welcomed Faith via gestational surrogate.

It wasn’t until April 2024, however, when Faith and her older sister made their red carpet debut at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala, where their mom was the evening’s honoree.

In an interview with Today , Nicole expressed hopes that she was raising her daughters to be outspoken and strong. “So much is stepping aside and letting them become who they are,” she explained. “I don’t know if I’m teaching that as much as giving them their voices. I let them negotiate so they get a sense of who they are and what they can achieve and accomplish.”

I went on 2 of Royal Caribbean's largest and newest cruise ships. I enjoyed them, but they're not for everyone.

  • I've sailed on Royal Caribbean's largest cruise ships , Wonder of the Seas and Icon of the Seas.
  • Both megaships are jam-packed with people, amenities, and dining options.
  • But if you want a quiet cruise to unique destinations, they might not be for you.

Insider Today

Before booking a vacation at sea, travelers should always research the best cruise line and ship for their needs.

If you're looking for a cheap and fast trip, try Margaritaville at Sea . Craving something more upscale? Consider Oceania Cruises.

But if you're looking for high-end sailing to unique destinations, I'd suggest avoiding Royal Caribbean's megaships .

Royal Caribbean has become synonymous with giant, family-friendly cruise ships

By 2028, Royal Caribbean wants one-third of its fleet to be megaships.

The latest addition, the 1,196-foot-long and 248,663-gross-ton Icon of the Seas, entered service in January, unseating Wonder of the Seas as the world's largest cruise liner.

Together, the two vessels can fit over 19,000 people — about 4,500 crew and 14,500 guests. Each ship has eight neighborhoods and there are 29 bars and 48 eateries between them.

I've attended complimentary sailings on both Wonder and Icon, the longest of which was three nights on the latter. From their colorful pool decks to the inescapable crowds, as a solo-adult traveler, I was equal parts entertained, overwhelmed, and overstimulated.

Related stories

But admittedly, I had fun. I do love a good waterslide; Wonder has three of them and Icon has six.

If you want to go on a cruise with your children — and if they, like me, love activities like rock climbing and mini golf — Royal Caribbean's megaships could be your best option.

Wonder and Icon are jam-packed with activity spaces like ice-skating rinks and ziplines.

But don't expect a peaceful retreat. The rowdy, bar-hopping adults and screaming children at the water playground aren't conducive to a relaxing vacation.

Megavessels might not be for you if you want a quiet cruise

If you want a relaxing vacation — maybe one that doesn't involve crowds of children — you shouldn't stay on either Royal Caribbean yacht.

There are many ways to have a luxury vacation on Icon of the Seas . But unless you want to pay for upcharged amenities at every turn, you'd be better off spending more upfront to reserve a premium cruise line — especially if you're interested in cruising for the destinations, not the ships.

After all, like most of Royal Caribbean's largest vessels, Icon and Wonder exclusively sail in the Caribbean.

Some destinations, such as French Polynesia, have set restrictions on which cruises can travel there amid concerns about pollution and overcrowding.

If stopping at these ports — or, really, anywhere outside the Caribbean — is at the top of your vacation wish list, you'll have to travel on a smaller Royal Caribbean ship or go with a different cruise line like Oceania , Silversea, and Regent Seven Seas.

You might not get a waterpark, but you'll get a quieter vacation to locations no megaship will likely be allowed to visit.

Holland America Line Strengthens Love for Alaska with Guarantee of Glacier Viewings on Every Alaska Cruise and Cruisetour

New Glacier Guarantee™ allows guests to sail with confidence, knowing they’re guaranteed to see Alaska glaciers

Seattle, Wash., May 1, 2024 — Holland America Line loves Alaska. Since 1947, the cruise line has led the way in showcasing the majesty of the state — including its magnificent glaciers. In fact, Holland America Line’s passion for Alaska’s glaciers runs so deep that the cruise line now guarantees guests will see one or more glaciers on their cruise in the region.

With guests citing seeing glaciers as one of the top reasons for choosing an Alaska cruise , the Glacier Guarantee ™ assures travelers they won’t return home disappointed. The Glacier Guarantee™ is offered on Alaska departures from now through September 2025. Under the guarantee, if Holland America Line does not visit an Alaska glacier, guests are eligible to receive a Future Cruise Credit equal to 15 percent of their cruise fare.

“Our guests, and especially first-time guests, are understandably as obsessed with Alaska’s glaciers as we are, and our new Glacier Guarantee™ underlines our confidence in providing unforgettable glacier sightings on our Alaska cruises and Cruisetours,” said Kacy Cole, chief marketing officer, Holland America Line. “We know our guests are going to return home from their cruise with special memories of these icy wonders. In fact, we guarantee it.”

Every Alaska cruise includes a scenic visit to Alaska’s iconic glaciers during which the ship sails up to the face of the ice formations and then rotates for a 360-degree view. Holland America Line has more permits to visit Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve than any other cruise line, and other glacier visits including College Fjord, Dawes Glacier, Hubbard Glacier and the Tracy Arm Fjord’s Twin Sawyer Glaciers.

During Glacier Bay scenic cruising, Glacier Bay National Park Service Rangers visit Holland America Line ships for the day to engage with guests and talk about Alaska’s most famous national park.

‘Glacier Day’ Puts a Spotlight on Alaska’s Majestic Glaciers

New for the 2024 season, Holland America Line also debuted “Glacier Day” on its Alaska cruises as part of its "We Love Alaska” onboard experience. Leaning into the cruise line’s enthusiasm for glaciers, Glacier Day includes sighting times, scenic commentary, presentations, informational viewing stations, photo opportunities, Dutch Pea Soup on deck, Glacial Ice cocktails, insightful talks by Glacier Bay National Park Service Rangers, and an open bow for viewing.

More Opportunities to See Alaska Wildlife Than Any Other Cruise Line

In addition to glaciers, Holland America Line offers more ways to see the wildlife of Alaska. Holland America Line carries a wildlife expert on board to help guests witness the majestic animals found in Alaska, including whales, eagles, bears, moose, otters, seals, sea lions and more. A Wildlife Spotting Guide points out the native animals found along the cruise route and includes a map with the best places to see each species. Between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., wildlife sightings are announced for guest viewing.

The wildlife experience continues ashore. With nearly180 animal sanctuaries and sightseeing opportunities, Holland America Line is #1 in Alaska wildlife and wilderness tours.

Alaska Features Six Ships Exploring The Great Land

In 2024 and 2025, guests can embark on Holland America Line’s Alaska cruises and cruisetours aboard Eurodam, Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Noordam, Westerdam and Zaandam. In addition to seven-day itineraries, guests can take longer 14-day voyages and a 28-Day Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice cruise. Holland America Line is the only cruise line that ventures up into the wilds of the Yukon on a cruisetour that combines a cruise and visit to Denali National Park & Preserve.

Holland America Line: The Leader in Alaska Cruising

The new Glacier Guarantee™ program is part of Holland America Line’s initiative to offer the most extensive Alaska experience in the industry. Holland America Line has been exploring Alaska for more than 75 years — longer than any other cruise line —weaving their expertise into every nuance of the journey. We   Alaska is made up of authentic experiences that focus on culture, cuisine and adventures ashore as well as Holland America Line's enrichment and entertainment programming 'Alaska Up Close' .

Readers’ Choice Awards, Forbes, Cruise Critic Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards and TravelAge West Wave Awards Editor’s Pick.

Under the Glacier Guarantee™, Holland America Line ensures that guests will see at least one glacier or will receive a future cruise credit equal to 15 percent of their cruise fare. Cruise lines' private islands are having a renaissance. These are the 3 reasons they need it now more than ever before.

  • Cruise lines spend big on private islands and destinations exclusive to their guests.
  • These private Caribbean properties are money trees for companies like Carnival and Royal Caribbean.
  • In-house destinations are becoming increasingly necessary amid rising fuel costs and port restrictions.

About 140 miles east of Miami, Royal Caribbean's private Bahamas island, Perfect Day at CocoCay , receives thousands of eager families virtually every day of the year.

The cruise line and many of its competitors don't just own ships — they also have land-based portfolios. Throughout the Caribbean and in countries like Honduras and Belize, practically every major cruise company has snatched up and developed beachfront properties to make exclusive to their guests.

To travelers, these secluded ports of call are convenient, safe, and cherished: "The vast majority of people love the islands," Patrick Scholes, the managing director of lodging and leisure-equity research at Truist Securities, told Business Insider.

To cruise lines, they're cash cows. And now, maybe more than ever before, a necessity as operators seek out profits while battling rising operating costs and ever-restrictive ports.

The industry is cruising into a private island renaissance

Cruise lines like Princess, Holland America, and MSC collectively own 16 ports and private destinations in the Caribbean (including properties that are still under development).

Many of them, like CocoCay, are hits.

Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, told analysts in 2023 that the private island had seen robust demand, including from repeat travelers. So much so that the financial returns on the $350 million investment, launched in 2019, have been "exceptionally high and significantly above its target," Naftali Holtz, CFO of Royal Caribbean Group, said a few months prior.

Given travelers' appetite, Royal Caribbean has continued to expand its splashy Bahamas getaway.

Its most recent addition, the adult-only Hideaway Beach , opened in January, adding to CocoCay's 14-slide waterpark, upscale beach club, massive pool, and umbrella-lined beaches.

But it's not done: The cruise giant plans to open its next development, a 17-acre private beach club on Nassau, Bahamas' Paradise Island, in 2025.

Carnival Corp is also updating its popular private island, Half Moon Cay, with an additional berth to accommodate its largest ships, increasing the destination's guest capacity.

Like its competitor, Carnival has more plans to expand its real estate footprint — this time with Celebration Key, a $500 million exclusive resort on Grand Bahama Island, set to open in 2025.

The vacation-at-sea industry's land-based conquest could continue to grow: Given their benefits, Scholes said he wouldn't be surprised if Royal Caribbean were to announce plans to build another private island in the next five years.

These are the three reasons cruise-run private destinations have become so important.

1. Fuel is expensive

Fuel is one of the cruise industry's biggest expenses . Fortunately, most Caribbean-based private destinations are just a night's sailing from Florida's major cruise ports.

Amid rising fuel costs, it's easy to see why cruise lines would want to plan more itineraries around these nearby stops.

In September 2023, Josh Weinstein — president, CEO, and chief climate officer of Carnival Corp — called the forthcoming Celebration Key a "win-win-win for the environment, our guests, and the people of the Bahamas," citing the property's proximity to its Florida homeports and the subsequent reduced fuel expenditure.

It could certainly be a "win" for travelers: In the same call, he told analysts that a guest-fronted fuel surcharge is "certainly not off the table."

2. Private destinations keep profits in-house

Before its debut, pre-cruise bookings for CocoCay's Hideaway Beach surpassed the company's expectations, Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, told analysts in October 2023.

Admission costs up to $89 per person during peak season. Nearby, entry to the more exclusive beach club could be shy of triple that cost .

Even the otherwise complimentary parts of the island have splurge-enticing options like rentable cabanas and snorkeling gear.

Travelers content with a basic beach chair and the lunch buffet don't have to ball out on these up-charged luxuries. But they sure are hard to resist, especially as cruisers have become eager to splurge on their vacations.

For families, skipping CocoCay's waterpark could be as sacrilegious as skipping Disney World during an Orlando vacation, Scholes said. A day pass to Thrill Waterpark can exceed $100 per person — that's more than $400 down the drain for a family of four in one afternoon.

These destinations have plenty of opportunities for guests to spend big. And because there's no need to rely on other excursion operators, they allow cruise lines to keep more profits in-house.

3. Some popular ports are saying "no" to giant cruise ships

The world's largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas , can carry 7,600 guests and 2,350 crew.

This sudden influx of travelers could overwhelm smaller destinations and their locals, like the just over 25,000 residents of Santorini, Greece, and 25,600 of Key West, Florida.

With concerns like pollution and over-tourism, it's no wonder the popular Greek island has a daily cap on cruise visitors, while its Florida counterpart has faced a fraught battle to restrict cruise tourism .

They're not alone. Cities across the US and Europe have increasingly limited travelers coming by sea — either through size restrictions, daily visitor limits, or complete bans. This includes desirable ports like Juneau, Alaska, French Polynesia, and Venice, Italy.

Ironically, at the same time, mass-market cruise lines have continued to grow the size of their vessels — so much so that several of these new mega-ships are now simply too big to fit into some ports.

So, if you can't beat the ports, why not join them? Especially if you can outfit your private properties with dozens of profit-growing amenities.

Cruise lines' private islands are having a renaissance. These are the 3 reasons they need it now more than ever before.

Love Gary Barlow and cruises? Boy is it your lucky day

author image

A picture of Gary Barlow with his feet up on a piano.

If you love Formula 1 put your hand up. What about Gary Barlow? If you love cruising also put your hand up. If you love all of them, we suppose you’ve got three hands in the air and we have a treat you need to know about.

Today’s cruising landscape is so much more than playing bridge on the lido deck – but, if you love a spot of bridge on the lido deck, we also love that for you.

From celebrity partnerships to conservation and swimming schools, ships are going above and beyond to bring travellers the most showstopping of experiences on the high seas.

The best of the best have been plucked from said seas by cruising experts for the Sailawaze Excellence Awards (BTW you can win a cruise for two by voting here , we should add…) with some major shortlisted collaborations such as Regent Seven Seas’ partnership with Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, and MSC Cruises’ own with Formula 1.

It seems Formula 1 and cruising fans are one and the same!

There’s also a chance you could spot Gary Barlow crooning away behind the piano on a P&O ship, too…

Vote to win a cruise

Do you love cruising? Are you an intrepid traveller? Maybe you just like looking at pictures of luxe ships. No matter which, we want you to vote!

Metro has partnered with the Sailawaze Excellence Awards , highlighting the very best in cruising when it comes to sustainability, wellness, entertainment and beyond.

And we need YOU to simply select what you’ve been most impressed by.

The best bit? By voting you’ll automatically be in with a chance of winning a cruise for two worth £2,500.

Say bon voyage to the more traditional categories of ‘best large ship’ or ‘best luxury cruise line’ and instead ahoy to innovation, food and drink and showstopping performances.

Vote for your favourite here .

Regent Seven Seas

Boats and Formula 1 cars – a great combo (Picture: Regent Seven Seas Cruises)

Regent Seven Seas’ partnership with Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team marks the team’s first official Global Cruise Line Partner with some pretty impressive onshore activities.

From VIP Aston Martin Formula One Team driving experiences to tours of the team’s state-of-the-art AMR Technology Campus in Silverstone, spotlight cruises will also combine cruising with motor racing.

MSC Cruises

Two men stand in front of a Formula 1 car on a cruise ship.

On the other side of pit lane, MSC’s partnership with Formula 1 offers fan hospitality packages comprising unrivalled race weekend experiences at global Grand Prix.

As part of the cruise line’s partnership, fans will get insider access through a premium all-inclusive experience, with exclusive track activities such as a Pit Lane Walk and a Guided Track Tour.

Gary Barlow sits with his feet up on a piano.

But let’s not forget P&O Cruises shortlisted nomination for its partnership with Gary Barlow , who is the Musical Director of The 710 Club on Arvia.

The late-night music venue, exclusively for adults, has delivered various unique musical moments curated for British music lovers, and Barlow will perform exclusive live charity shows onboard Iona in 2024.

Plenty of time to play a million love songs…

Elsewhere in the hefty category is Ambassador’s ORCA ocean conservation charity partnership (ongoing since 2022), championing the industry’s only anti-whaling campaign.

Not content with just one partnership, the line has also worked with Essex Cricket Club since 2022, granting passengers free game tickets, while its Help for Heroes partnership, in play since March 2024, raises funds and provides exclusive access to veterans, with special onboard activities.

A-Rosa Cruises

A small child doing a peace sign while in the pool.

Some of these partnerships offer quite an important service, too, with A-Rosa Cruises’ partnership with Wasserlust Swimming School offering lessons on board for those who want to learn, or at least brush up, on their freestyle.

Lessons are held onboard the river cruise ships during three key summer departures, with beginner, intermediate and advanced courses for children aged four and above.

An advanced course was added this year for swimmers keen to enhance stamina and technique while learning basic water safety rules. Hey, we can’t say we’ve ever had swimming lessons while at sea, so this truly is quite the experience!

Carnival Cruises

Carnival Cruise ship Mardi Gras

For the kids, Carnival has been shortlisted in this category for its Seuss at Sea program. One ship, two ship, red ship, blue ship, right?

We’re talking whimsical experiences such as reimagined Dr Seuss breakfast themed as a birthday party led by Thing 1 and Thing 2, an aptly-named Seuss-a-palooza Parade with an underwater immersive world with LED screens.

The cruising line also has a partnership with the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, which results in the Space Cruisers program where sea-dwelling astronauts in-the-making can try their hand at designing mission patches and building a Mars base.

For the bougie, French-owned cruise line Ponant’s partnership with Relais & Châteaux has to be up there. Relais & Châteaux, established in 1954, is an association of 580 unique hotels and restaurants throughout the world, owned and operated by independent entrepreneurs – most often families – who are passionate about their craft and deeply committed to forging warm, lasting relationships with their guests.
