Fundraising Ideas For Mission Trips That Make a Real Impact

Mission trips offer a unique chance to experience new cultures while doing meaningful work and serving others. To make these life-changing mission trips possible, we know that raising money—especially for travel—is an essential part of the process. Our crowdfunding platform offers the chance to fundraise for the mission trip and invite family and friends to support your cause. Wondering how to raise money for a mission trip? Use this guide on mission trip fundraising ideas to start your humanitarian journey.

Start a mission trip fundraiser

The joys of paying it forward

Some mission trips are focused on spreading faith through a  church group ; others are geared toward serving the needs of communities by helping build schools or  helping people recover from disaster . Whatever the nature of the mission, we hope the following mission trip fundraising ideas inspire a desire to grow through the experience. Mission trips have the power to:

  • Broaden one’s perspective of the world and provide a greater understanding of different cultures.
  • Help put life in perspective and indirectly inspire a more worldly and mature outlook.
  • Deepen one’s gratitude for the material security that isn’t available to so many around the world.

Six mission trip fundraising ideas that also help you give back

1. host a garage sale.

Ask members of your community, neighbors, friends, and family to donate unwanted items to sell at a garage sale for your mission trip fundraising. You can build awareness around the garage sale and set it up for success by:

  • Placing posters around your community and posting updates on social media spotlighting your cause in ads and announcements to entice buyers and create buzz.
  • At the sale, organize items into relevant categories to make browsing easier.
  • Take your garage sale online so people who can’t physically make it can participate.

2. Go green for cash

Collect used and unwanted electronics—such as cell phones and tablets—from people in your community. Then, send them to a program  like SmartphoneRecycling.com  that pays cash for recycled electronics. If you’re exploring how to raise money for a mission trip by yourself, this is a relatively hassle-free way to supplement your fundraising fundraiser—and one that’s good for the environment. If you host a garage sale first, you can go green for extra cash with any remaining electronics that don’t sell

3. Host a community trivia night

There’s nothing like a little healthy competition to rally people together. This is a great fundraising idea that your friends and family will love, but it will also interest any strangers. Here’s how to fundraise for a mission trip with a trivia night:

  • Brainstorm unique facts about your community and craft them into trivia questions.
  • Select a venue (such as a community center, school, restaurant, or coffee shop).
  • Sell tables for teams or individual entry tickets in exchange for donations to your fundraiser.
  • As the facilitator, ask the questions and allot time for each team to come up with a response. Pay attention to which group raises their hands first.
  • Tally up the points and award the prizes.

4. Organize a tea and painting party

Painting parties are one of the more unique fundraising ideas for mission trips that donors will love. Unleash your community’s artistic side with a small tea party accompanied by a step-by-step painting lesson. Teach the class yourself, or ask a local artist to help. Participants get to socialize with friends and leave with a masterpiece. To cover the cost of materials and raise funds for your cause, charge a flat rate to join the party. Make sure to advertise the event both locally and social media. Highlight the cause it benefits—people are often inclined to donate more knowing you’ll be helping others in turn.

5. Publish a regional cuisine recipe book

Give your community a taste of your travels—literally. Read up on the country or place you’ll be going to for your mission trip, and create a book of well-known recipes from that region. This is a great way for you to get more familiar with the culture you’ll be working in while creating something salable. Here’s how:

  • Gather recipes, then design the cookbooks in a page-layout program.
  • Print them through Office Depot, FedEx, or another local or online print-on-demand provider.
  • Ask friends, family, and community members to purchase your cookbook with a donation to your cause.

6. Create a custom t-shirt shop

While you can just come out and ask people to “fund my mission trip”, it’s more effective if they too feel like they are getting something back. That’s why selling things is one of the best fundraising ideas for trips. Rally support for your cause by selling t-shirts or other apparel with a fun design that reflects your cause.

  • Create a design on your own, or enlist a friend with design experience to help.
  • Purchase apparel in bulk and find a local screen printing studio—making the shirts yourself allows you to raise far more money per shirt than if you used a print-on-demand service.
  • Ask people to donate to your fundraiser in exchange for a shirt.

Raising money can be easy

On top of reaching out to organizations that donate money for mission trips, fundraising for mission trips is an ideal way to reach people looking to support a worthy cause like yours. Supplementing your fundraiser with events like those described above can raise both awareness and money. At GoFundMe, our  online fundraising  platform makes it easy to raise funds with any mission trip fundraising ideas you choose to implement. Look to our website for more  tips  and  ideas . Most of all, have fun. You’re about to take the journey of a lifetime, and we’re here to help. If you haven’t already,  launch your mission trip fundraiser .

HOW TO RAISE MONEY FOR YOUR MISSION TRIP

How to fundraise for your mission trip

There are many ways to fundraise for your mission trip. Create a plan that outlines how much money you need to raise and the timeline in which you would like to do it. You may want to break down your fundraising efforts into short-term goals, such as hosting one large event or multiple smaller ones, and also long-term goals, such as setting up an online fundraising page.

Organize a bake sale, carwash, or other events that people can attend and contribute to your mission trip mission. Hosting a dinner party is another great way to involve family and friends in your mission trip fundraising efforts while having the chance to spend quality time with them.

Online fundraising is also a great way to raise money. Set up an online donation page that provides mission trip details and explains why the mission trip is important to you. Share the link with family and friends so they can donate directly or share it on their social media accounts.

In addition, consider reaching out to your community for mission trip donations. Local businesses, religious organizations, and alumni associations may be able to help with mission trip funding.

Finally, you can also ask family and friends for mission trip donations. Ask them directly, or create a mission trip donation letter that you can send to your contacts in the mail or via email. Don’t forget to thank everyone who donates—their kind contributions go a long way!

These events are usually held at schools, churches, or community centers. People usually charge a small fee per item so that they can recoup their costs and make some profit to go toward mission trip costs. Bake sales can also be held online, where people can purchase items from an online store or auction and have them shipped directly to their home. This is a great way to raise funds for mission trips without needing to organize a physical event.

What is a carwash fundraiser?

A carwash fundraiser is an event where people come to have their vehicles washed and detailed by volunteers. In exchange for the service, participants make a donation that supports mission trips. This type of fundraiser is best organized in areas with frequent vehicle traffic so that there are enough customers to generate a good amount of money. Carwashes are usually held in parking lots or other large open spaces with access to water. It’s important to note that carwashes require a lot of planning and organization, so it’s best to start early in order to give yourself enough time to set up the event.

What is a dinner party fundraiser?

A dinner party fundraiser is an event where people come together to enjoy a meal in support of mission trips. People can either pay for their meals or make donations toward mission trip costs. These events are usually held at restaurants, homes, or community centers. Dinner parties provide an opportunity for mission trip supporters to get together and have fun while raising money for a mission trip. Plus, it’s a great way to get mission trip supporters involved and excited about the mission. Organizing a dinner party fundraiser requires a lot of planning, so it’s best to start early and make sure you have enough volunteers and resources for the event.

How to set up an online donation page:

Setting up an online donation page is a great way to reach mission trip supporters all over the world. You can use platforms like GoFundMe or Kickstarter to create a mission trip donation page and share it on social media. This will allow people from anywhere in the world to donate to your mission trip cause. It’s important to include a mission statement and mission trip details on your page so that people have a clear understanding of what their donations are going toward. You can also include photos and videos to give mission trip supporters a better idea of what’s happening on the mission trip.

What is an example of a mission trip donation letter?

A mission trip donation letter is a written request for donations that mission trip supporters can send to family, friends, and local businesses. Here’s an example of a mission trip donation letter:

Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to ask for your support in helping me reach my mission trip goal. I am planning to go on a mission trip and need help raising money for the expenses. I plan to use the funds for travel, mission supplies, and personal costs. Any donation that you can make would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for your support of my mission trip. Your generosity will help me achieve my mission trip goals and make a difference.

By sending mission trip donation letters to family, friends, and local businesses, mission trip supporters can reach out for help in raising money for their mission trips. It’s important to include mission details so that people understand what their donations are going toward. Additionally, mission trip supporters should be sure to thank donors for their support.

Raising money for mission trips can be a challenge, but it’s possible with the right strategy and resources. By using online donation pages, carwashes, dinner parties, and mission trip donation letters mission trip supporters can reach out to more people and raise more money for mission trips. Blessings and happy fundraising!

Mission Trip Fundraising Strategies

Mission Trip Fundraising Strategies

Mission trips hold a transformative power, both for the communities they serve and the volunteers embarking on them. However, one universal challenge often stands in the way: the daunting task of "mission trip fundraising." If you're searching for insights on "how to raise money for a mission trip," this guide promises to be your beacon, illuminating the path to successful fundraising endeavors.

How to raise money for a mission trip.

Step 1: Setting Clear Financial Targets for Your Mission Trip

Before embarking on any mission trip, it's paramount to have a well-defined financial blueprint. This not only ensures that you're adequately prepared but also instill confidence in potential donors, showcasing that their contributions will be used judiciously. Here's how to achieve clarity in your financial goals:

Breaking Down Your Mission Trip Costs

Travel Expenditures: Consider costs for flights, local transportation, and possible travel insurance.

Accommodation Expenses: Will you be staying in a hostel, rented space, or with a local host? Factor in those costs.

Daily Needs: This includes food, water, and other essential items.

Mission-Specific Costs: Depending on your trip's purpose, you might need to purchase materials, equipment, or services. For instance, if you're building a school, what are the construction materials costs?

Contingency Funds: Always account for unforeseen expenses. A good rule of thumb is to set aside 10-15% of your total estimated costs for emergencies.

Differentiating Between Personal Contributions and "Mission Trip Fundraising" Goals

Personal Savings: Determine how much you can comfortably contribute from your savings or earnings. This shows potential donors your commitment and stake in the mission.

External Contributions: After deducting your personal contribution from the total cost, the remainder is what you'll need to raise. Clearly communicate this figure in your fundraising campaigns to give potential donors a clear target.

Crafting a Detailed Budget with Expenses and Anticipated Fundraising Revenue

Itemized Budget: Create a spreadsheet detailing every single anticipated cost. This helps in tracking expenses and ensuring you stay within budget.

Anticipated Fundraising Milestones: Set periodic fundraising milestones leading up to your trip. For instance, if you need to raise $5,000 in 5 months, aim for $1,000 every month. This keeps the momentum going and allows you to adjust your fundraising strategies if you're falling short.

Donor Recognition: Consider having acknowledgment tiers for donors based on their contribution amounts. This can motivate larger donations and make supporters feel appreciated.

Remember, a transparent, detailed financial plan not only guides your fundraising efforts but also builds trust with your donors. When they see a well-thought-out plan, they're more likely to believe in your mission and support it.

Step 2: Personalizing Your Mission Trip Fundraising Story

Your mission trip's fundraising campaign becomes much more compelling when intertwined with a personal narrative . Here's how to craft a poignant and relatable fundraising story:

Why This Mission Journey Matters to You

Personal Experience: Share any past experiences that resonate with the mission's goals. Did a specific event inspire your journey?

Values and Beliefs: How does this mission align with your core values or life's philosophy?

Growth and Transformation: Discuss how you envision the mission trip contributing to your personal growth and the change you want to see in yourself.

The Wider Impact and Significance of Your Mission Trip

Community Benefits: Describe the direct benefits the targeted community will gain from the mission. Will they have access to clean water, better education, or improved health facilities?

Ripple Effect: Discuss the long-term, indirect advantages. For instance, education initiatives might empower children, leading to more prosperous communities in the future.

Global Perspective: Explain how the mission aligns with broader global goals, such as the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, if relevant.

How Each Contribution Brings the Mission's Goals Closer to Reality

Tangible Outcomes: Break down how specific amounts can help. For example, "$50 can provide educational materials for 10 children."

Progress Updates: Regularly update donors about how their contributions are making a difference. This could be through photos, videos, or short stories showcasing real-time impact.

Personal Acknowledgments: Express gratitude by showcasing stories or testimonials of individuals directly impacted by the donors' generosity.

By weaving your personal narrative into the broader tapestry of the mission's impact, you create a compelling story that potential donors can emotionally invest in. This emotional connection can be the difference between a passing interest and a passionate supporter.

Step 3: Creating Tried-and-True Mission Trip Fundraising Ideas

When it comes to mission trip fundraising efforts, some methods have stood the test of time due to their effectiveness and ability to engage communities. Here are a few creative ideas to kickstart your fundraising efforts:

Organizing Bake Sales, Garage Sales, and Car Washes

Bake Sales: Bake sales are a popular fundraising idea to collaborate with friends and family to prepare delicious baked goods. Highlight that proceeds go to your mission trip, and consider adding an informational pamphlet about your mission with each purchase.

Garage Sales:   Garage or yard sales are another simple fundraising idea for a mission trip. Declutter your home and ask neighbors to donate items they no longer need. This not only raises funds but also promotes recycling and reusing.

Car Washes: Car wash for mission trip fundraisers is easy to execute. Team up with a group, set up in a local parking lot (with permission), and offer car washing services for donations.

Hosting Themed Dinners or Community Nights

Themed Dinners: Organize a dinner event with cuisine from the country or region you'll be visiting. It provides an immersive experience and educates attendees about the culture.

Community Nights: Arrange movie nights, talent shows, or art exhibitions, with entry fees going toward your mission trip.

Seeking Sponsorships from Local Businesses

Partnership Deals: Offer to promote local businesses in exchange for their support. This could be through wearing branded shirts during the trip or mentioning them in your trip blog or vlogs.

Donation Boxes: Collaborate with local stores to place donation boxes at their counters, along with a brief about your mission.

Collaborating with Religious Organizations for Support

Church Announcements: Many religious organizations are happy to announce mission trips during services and provide avenues for congregants to donate.

Special Gatherings: Organize special prayer or informational sessions dedicated to your mission trip, offering attendees an opportunity to contribute.

Initiating Charity Walks or Runs in Your Community

Theme-based Walks: To make it more engaging, consider theming the walk around your mission trip's cause, like "Walk for Clean Water" if you're raising money for a water project.

Participation Fees: Charge a small fee for participants and provide them with certificates or mementos upon completion.

Local Sponsorships: Approach local businesses to sponsor the event in return for branding opportunities.

These tried-and-true methods not only help raise the necessary funds but also create awareness about the mission, multiplying the impact and ensuring a wider reach.

Step 4: Utilizing Digital Techniques for Mission Trip Fundraising

In today's digital age, the internet presents myriad opportunities to amplify your fundraising efforts and reach a broader audience. Leveraging these digital strategies can significantly boost your mission trip fundraising:

Using Crowdfunding Platforms

Virtual Groups: Create online communities on platforms like Facebook or WhatsApp where supporters can share ideas, and updates, and provide encouragement.

Volunteer Roles: Assign specific roles within the group, like event coordinators or social media managers, to tap into various skills and expertise.

Collaborate with Bloggers: Engage with local bloggers or YouTubers to create content around your mission trip, be it through interviews, guest posts, or feature videos.

Community Leaders: Gain the backing of local leaders, which can be instrumental in influencing larger segments of the community.

Updating Supporters with Real-Time Fundraising Progress

I hope this letter finds you and your family in high spirits. I recently graduated from my four-year university and am excited to embark on my next journey. God has given me the incredible opportunity to go to Ecuador and make a difference in the lives of those in need.

From August 8th-18th, I will join my fellow team of volunteers to assist in medical care and home building. Our work aims to empower individuals and enhance the physical and mental wellness of the community.

To make this mission trip possible, our team needs to bring all materials and medical supplies. We also need to pay for travel expenses, accommodation, and meals. On this trip, I hope to uplift the community in deep reverence. I am reaching out to express my unwavering gratitude for those that are able to help us raise funds and make a difference.

Mission Trip Fundraising Ideas

Why Are Missions Important?

M ission trips play a crucial role in the lives of countless people in the developing world each year. Many churches in the United States have mission teams of church members and church youth who travel to serve the less fortunate while spreading the word of the Lord. These short-term mission trips often have a specific mission or focus project, including rebuilding towns afflicted by natural disasters, setting up permanent or temporary health clinics, and helping communities struggling with disease or starvation.

Mission work is a staple of the evangelical and other church communities, and many are called to do this type of work on a more long-term basis. Churches may also choose to sponsor a missionary or mission family that lives in the area where vital mission work is being done. The Church then supplements their income with the money raised from donations to help them fund the work of serving the community in need on behalf of the church.

Unique fundraising ideas for raising mission trip fundraisers

How to Raise Funds for a Mission Trip

Now that you have laid the foundation for planning and preparing for mission trip fundraising, what are the best ways to raise donations for your cause? There is never one answer that works for everyone. Many fundraising initiatives can help individuals and mission groups raise money for their trips. Choosing the right fundraiser for your church or church group is part of your journey.

Whatever you decide for your fundraising campaign, ensure you provide an easy way for people to contribute. Our Donation software for churches allows faith-based communities to set up a web page and upload photos, explain the mission, and collect secure donations online.

Write Mission Trip Fundraising Letters

Writing a simple, sincere appeal can be one of the easiest and most effective ways to raise money for a mission trip, especially if it comes from church youth group members. A church youth group member can raise hundreds or thousands of dollars by sending a well-written support letter to everyone they know. Make sure not to limit the appeal to just friends and family. Send letters to neighbors, co-workers, local businesses, and community members. There is no harm in informing people about a good cause; the worst they can say is that they have no money to contribute. However, you will find that many people decide to give something, even if it’s a small amount. Those small amounts add up quickly, but sending out all these letters and asking donors to return check donations can be timely and costly.

Launch a Mission Trip Fundraising Website

Luckily, now there is a better way than the traditional fundraising letter. Youth groups and others who wish to fundraise for mission trips can now find success by using our free crowdfunding software . This is how a church crowdfunding campaign works:

  • A church administrator establishes a fundraising website
  • Those interested in raising money for the mission trip register on the fundraising site, and a personal page is generated
  • Each mission trip participant manages their fundraising page, which includes their mission statement, a fundraising goal thermometer, and social media links
  • They then invite friends and family to support the church or mission trip through secure online donations
  • Product and raffle ticket sales can also be added to the campaign to increase funding opportunities
  • Administrators can easily view reports for all fundraisers and see how much everyone has raised

Golf tournaments, online stores, sweepstakes, raffle fundraising, spread the word.

The best way to start raising money for your mission trip is by telling people about it. Whether you decide to send a letter or talk about it with family, friends, and neighbors, you can do more by going online. Post an announcement on your Facebook or other social media page, giving friends a link to your fundraising page and an opportunity to contribute. Contact local restaurants and businesses and ask if you can post flyers on their bulletin boards. The church should also support the mission team by talking to the congregation about the mission trip and helping participants raise funds. Church leaders may consider passing an additional donation basket during services to raise funds for your mission trip or by providing donation envelopes for people to pick up after Sunday service or during community gatherings. Don’t forget to utilize church bulletins, newsletters, and the church’s website.

Spread the Word!

Organize a Fundraising Event

If you’re raising money as a group, consider hosting a fundraising event to raise money for your mission trip. DoJiggy provides many great resources and creative fundraising events ideas , as well as tips and guidelines to help you plan them. These events can be applied to any community organization looking for fun ways to raise money for their cause.

Fundraising events will raise money for your mission trip and bring your community members and congregation closer together. Be sure to consider the importance of highlighting your mission and mission-driven fundraising when selecting a fundraising event.

Organize a Fundraising Event

Examples of the best fundraising events for churches and mission group fundraising include:

  • Walk-a-thon fundraisers
  • Serve-a-thons or community service projects
  • Charity golf tournaments
  • Gourmet breakfast fundraisers
  • Simple community-based fundraising events such as bake sales, car washes, and group yard sales

Host a Get to Know the Mission Night and Meal

Your church congregation will likely be some of your best supporters since they believe in you and your mission work. Be sure to educate them on the mission and how they can participate – even if they aren’t going on the mission. Host a Get to Know the Mission Night where you talk about the mission’s goals and share a slide show of the community that will be affected. If your church has been there before, sharing pictures and stories can be quite impactful. Then, prepare a meal of the local cuisine for everyone to try. Sell tickets to attend and take additional donations after the show with a simple t-shirt or bake sale. Consider including a silent auction or fundraising raffle as well.

Host a Get to Know the Mission Night & Meal

Sell Church Merchandise

Sell Unique Church Merchandise

Another popular fundraising idea for church gro ups is to sell branded merchandise online or at church services and events. Create beautiful, unique designs on a platform such as Printful , for church t-shirts, sweatshirts, coffee mugs, bumper stickers, hats, or blankets. A table can be set up to sell these items every Sunday, or you can setup an eCommerce store and sell them online. Add a blog to the website to boost sales and report about your mission trip fundraising goals and progress.

Request Frequent Flyer Mile Donations

One of the biggest expenses that you will encounter in mission work is airfare. Most airlines allow members to donate frequent flyer miles to other individuals or non-profit groups. Many people frequently travel for work and look for ways to utilize their miles to do good. If this is a donation option you are interested in offering, ask your congregation to consider donating miles to your mission group as a form of in-kind donation.

Request Frequent Flyer Mile Donations

Find Corporate or Business Sponsorships

Many local business owners and corporations allocate funds specifically for philanthropic use. Check with local businesses and companies to see if they will sponsor your mission trip or contribute through a financial or in-kind donation. Companies should benefit from their sponsorship with good advertisement and public relations, so let the business know how you can promote their sponsorship on your missions website.

Save Your Own Money and Raise More by Providing Services

In addition to raising money from the community, family and friends, contribute some of your funds to your mission trip. Sacrificial giving is often the most rewarding way to raise money. Sacrificial giving means sacrificing some of the unnecessary luxuries we spend money on every day in our lives. Cut out trips to local coffee shops, eating out, purchasing new clothes, and instead put this money aside towards your mission trip. This can also prepare you a bit for service, as you won’t be able to hop over to Starbucks for coffee when you’re on a mission. You may also want to consider offering your services to friends and neighbors for donations to help save more money. This could include simple tasks such as watering plants while neighbors are out of town, helping with yard work, or offering pet-sitting or dog-walking services.

Save Your Own Money and Raise More on Services

Other Mission Trip Fundraising Ideas

Regardless of what fundraising initiative you organize for your mission trip, the rewards are worth it. Not only will you make a difference in the world, but you will build character, gain experience in serving, and better appreciate what you have by serving those less fortunate. We have plenty of additional church fundraising ideas for you to consider to help you raise money for your mission trip.

Planning and Preparing for a Mission Trip

As with any fundraising initiative, plan appropriately for a mission trip by setting goals and objectives. Establish timelines so you can meet these goals in time for your trip. Utilize a fundraising website to securely collect donations, track fundraising progress, and communicate the trip’s mission. Our church fundraising overview outlines some of these basic fundraising guidelines to help you succeed.

Of course, raising money is not the only thing you must do to prepare for your mission trip. You will be expected to quickly integrate into your new environment and serve. Start preparing yourself now, physically and emotionally. Whether it’s sacrificing your own personal desires to help others, studying a foreign language, or reading the Bible to find encouraging devotions you may want to share with a community in need, do what you can to prepare yourself for your journey and make the most of your time away from home. Successful mission trips are life-changing experiences for everyone involved.

7 Steps to Fundraise for Christian Mission Trips

The people who have success in fundraising for the World Race mission trip have one thing in common: they’ve each put in time, willingness to do uncomfortable things, and obedience and trust in Him.

1. TRUST GOD TO PROVIDE FOR YOUR MISSION TRIP

Ultimately, God is the source of our funds. As His people, we are simply stewards of His resources. During your Christian mission trip, God is going to stretch and grow your faith, your identity, and your trust in Him. This often begins with raising support! Remember that God led you here and He is in this with you. His resources are unlimited, and you’ve got a front-row seat to watch Him provide for your every single need.

2. BUILD A MISSION TRIP PRAYER TEAM

Mission trip fundraising can be a scary journey when we try to do it alone. That’s why the next step is to build a team who will commit to praying for you leading up to and during your mission trip. These partners will not only pray for you while you fundraise for your mission trip, they will also cover each new month, country, and ministry in prayer. Your team will be making an impact around the world through their prayerful intercession for you.

3. COMPLETE A MISSION TRIP FUNDRAISING TRAINING COURSE

With a training course, you can take out the guesswork, learning how to get started and what works when you are fundraising for a Christian mission trip. When you commit to the World Race, you’ll get exclusive access to a FREE mission trip fundraising training course through our partnership with Stewardship Ambassadors. Stewardship Ambassadors has been helping missionaries reach their fundraising goals for years, and you can get the benefit of that connection! And after you complete the training, you’ll receive 100 FREE prayer cards.

4. RECEIVE PROFESSIONAL FUNDRAISING COACHING

You do not have to be a fundraising expert, but it doesn’t hurt to have connections to one. When you begin fundraising for the World Race, you will have one-on-one coaching with our team of Admissions Advisor with years of fundraising experience. You will also gain exclusive access to one-on-one fundraising coaching through our partnership with Stewardship Ambassadors. Utilize FREE mission trip fundraising resources, including templates, scripts, and step-by-step instructions. Meet with professional mission trip fundraising coaches to create and practice your presentation and receive invaluable feedback.

5. SHARE YOUR STORY WITH POTENTIAL SUPPORTERS

Sharing your story will help you as you fundraise for your Christian mission trip. World Race mission trip participants build a presentation to bring people into the story of what God has done in your life and how this trip is part of that. Invite people out to coffee to share your story and the purpose of your mission trip with them. Create prayer or business cards to pass out to potential supporters to remind them to pray for you.

6. SHARE ABOUT YOUR MISSION TRIP FACE-TO-FACE

The best way to fundraise for a mission trip is to ask people directly. While fundraising for the World Race, participants build a team of supporters through personal connection and communication. Get face-to-face and share your vision and calling to this mission. Invite them to be part of the bigger picture of what God is doing through you (and through them by partnering with you).

7. CONTINUE UPDATING SUPPORTERS THROUGHOUT YOUR MISSION TRIP

After people invest in your mission trip, you want to keep them up to date on what God is doing. World Race missionaries use their World Race blogs to share inspirational stories of how God is moving in the world as well as insights into their faith journey. Write blogs, create videos, update social media, and send email newsletters throughout your mission trip to bring your support team into how their donations are impacting the world.

Before applying for the World Race, the only thing that was stopping me was the grand total with a big fat “FUNDRAISING.” I was extremely intimidated but simply asked God “if this is something You want me to pursue, please make Fundraising fun for me.” He answered this prayer and blew my expectations out of the water, not only did I actually have FUN fundraising (gasp), but I also discovered so much creativity within myself through the process!

OTHER CREATIVE WAYS TO FUNDRAISE FOR A MISSION TRIP

As you fundraise for your World Race mission trip, your Admissions Advisor will take the journey with you. You can utilize the talents or resources you already have to reach your mission trip fundraising goal, supplement your funds, or cover preparation expenses.

When to Start Fundraising for a Mission Trip

We recommend that you don’t start fundraising for a mission trip until you’ve been accepted and officially signed up to participate. However, if you’re not there yet, there are some things you can do now in preparation for fundraising.

CREATE A SUPPORT TEAM

Share with your network to let them know you are applying for one of our Christian mission trips and ask them to pray with you through the process.

SEEK THE LORD

Pray for guidance and direction. Ask the Lord to start preparing your heart and the hearts of those who will be partners for the journey.

READ “THE GOD ASK” BY STEVE SHADRACH

Fundraising can be intimidating. God has done the work, and we are partnering with him.

In the end, God will provide what you need for what He has called you to do. We can try to plan every aspect of the process, but ultimately, He wants us to step out in faith and rely on his provision for everything. It’s greater than anything we could do. He will start growing us through the process long before we ever leave, not just once a mission trip has started. The World Race is a journey of learning to trust, and fundraising is just the beginning.

TESTIMONIES

Jezebelle pelayo.

Asking people to partner with me wasn’t easy. But the Lord has humbled me and softened my heart to receiving this kind of love. I honestly cry tears of joy. I knew the Lord would provide, but it was more beautiful to see Him teach me patience and see my community come together to keep me going. He could’ve made it happen quick, but He chose to let me watch it come slowly and surely. And to be trusting through it all. He is SO good y’all.

Carly Miers

For so long, I thought that raising so much money was such a far off dream, yet here I am rejoicing in the Lord’s provision and the abundantly more that He has provided for me over the course of the last year. The Lord has been so good to me and so kind to me.

lan Schumann

I entered the World Race squad way late, I hardly have a home church, and my extended family is Jewish, so they didn’t want to help me out. Fund-raising seemed impractical, nearly impossible. Two weeks before the launch date, the deadline was suddenly upon me to get $6900 cash in my support account! I had been slow, but now it was crunch time. So, with a lot of prayer and trust, I scribbled out a blog entitled “Call for help,” detailing where I was at and making it very clear that if somebody didn’t start giving soon, I would lose my chance to go on this trip. I only had $1200 collected at this point. Well, that was late on a Thursday night. By Friday at 2:00pm, about 14 hours later, I had broken the $6900 threshold. By the following Monday, I was at $10,000! It was nothing short of miraculous.
