Get Inspired

Get the travel guide, become an insider, tee off like the pros at long island's legendary golf courses.

On the heels now of the 2023 Ryder Cup, the largest and most prestigious golf event in the world, all eyes were on the host city of Rome as Team Europe claimed victory over Team USA. But the global golf spotlight and excitement, which drew in more than 600 million television viewers for the 2023 event, are now shifting to the iconic event’s next destination: Long Island, New York, home of the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Long Island has long been a golfer’s paradise. The region’s relationship with the professional sport dates back to the 1896 U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur championships played at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club (private) in Southampton – and the world’s best golfers have competed here ever since. Shinnecock Hills was also home to the 2018 U.S. Open Championship, while Long Island’s famed Bethpage Black course set the stage for the 2019 PGA Championship.

But the best part is many courses on Long Island are public, so even YOU can tee off where legendary pros have done so for decades. Whether you’re an amateur or aspiring pro, grab your clubs and check out our guide to Long Island’s world-class greens, simulators, and more.

Bethpage State Park Golf Course is one of the most popular golf courses in the nation. It is home to five public 18-hole regulation golf courses, including the world-famous Bethpage Black Course, which has been described as “brutally fun” by expert golfers. Originally designed by notable golf architect A.W. Tillinghast, Bethpage Black has hosted multiple national and internationally renowned PGA Tour events and Championships, so even the best golfers should expect to be put to the ultimate test.

Montauk Downs (Montauk)

Montauk Downs Golf Course was originally developed in 1927 and was redesigned in 1968 by Robert Trent Jones before being purchased by New York State Parks in 1980. The ever-changing wind currents off the ocean and bay add an extra challenge to the way the course plays each day. Open year round, the 18-hole course offers a one-of-a-kind beachfront experience.

Eisenhower Park (East Meadow)

Considered Nassau County’s own “Central Park,” this 930-acre park first earned its reputation as a golfer’s refuge during the ‘20s when it was the five-course Salisbury Golf Club. Today, it is a mecca for sports and leisure fun for all! Visitors can test their skills at the driving range or compete for a winning title on one of the park’s three 18-hole courses. The famed Red Course was designed by 20th-century Golden Age golf architect Devereux Emmet and has ties to PGA Championships and Tour events dating back to 1926. The park’s additional Championship-level courses (White and Blue) were designed by golf architect Robert Trent Jones, whose contributions can be traced across golf courses throughout the nation. Not feeling up to one of the full courses but still want to work on your short game? Stop by one of the park’s two mini-golf courses and test out your putting skills.

Governor Alfred E. Smith Sunken Meadow State Park Golf Course (Fort Salonga)

Sunken Meadow State Park Golf

Sunken Meadow State Park features three courses designed by renowned golf course architect Alfred Tull in the early 1960s. The courses may be played as either 9 or 18 holes, and all three courses are known for utilizing the natural topography of its surrounding landscape in their gameplay through hilly woodlands—resulting in a relaxing and unique outdoor experience for all levels of golfers.

Harbor Links (Port Washington)

Harbor Links

Harbor Links , built in 1998 and designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan, is seated adjacent to Hempstead Harbor, atop rolling hills and long fescues that give the feel of a country-club quality round. Its well-manicured fairways and greens serve players well. With its award-winning 18-hole Championship Course, hidden gem of the 9-hole Executive Course, world-class instructional program, miniature golf and banquet facilities for all occasions, Harbor Links provides everything you desire for a memorable experience.

Christopher Morley Park Golf Course (Roslyn)

Since the 1960s, this nine-hole course has been an excellent place for beginners, or even experienced golfers who just want to play a quick round. The course itself is hilly with large trees but no water features. It’s a relatively straightforward course that offers a relaxed pace of play. The highlight of the course is hole #9, with a big tree hanging over the fairway to challenge your aim. This course is one of five municipal courses in Nassau County; the others are located at Cantiague Park, N. Woodmere Park, Bay Park, and Eisenhower Park.

X-Golf (Commack & Westbury)

X-Golf

A combination indoor golf simulator, restaurant and bar venue, X-Golf touts their tech as the most innovative and accurate golf simulator in the world. Players swing real clubs at real golf balls against a screen projecting famous courses from across the globe. A professional-grade software and hardware package comprising cameras, impact sensors and infrared lasers will calculate the ball’s distance and speed. Whether you’re looking for a unique indoor networking activity, solo lessons to up your golf game in the off season, or a spot to kick back and enjoy with friends and family of all ages, X-Golf, at both the Commack and Westbury locations, has it all: a full bar with beer and cocktails, shareable appetizers, and courses designed for all ages and levels from amateurs to pro athletes.

Super great prices and people! Wanted to buy clubs and they set e up with "Charles" who really knew all their products and how to evaluate my swing. No rushing at all, he was extremely patient and had me try out all the clubs that I needed. He really knows the science of golf. Very highly recommended!

Getting time for lessons is impossible, like buying concert tickets. Was told six weeks after buying a group of three that I had to go online to set up my lesson times which sold out immediately. Went in for a refund today and I don't think they really cared. Would recommend not participating in this program at the Westbury, NY location. .

I bought a golf bag with gift cards. It was NY METS logo bag. It had great pockets and was light weight. However, the putter and driver slot had defective interiors. The fabric grabbed the clubs and it was difficult to put them all the way down. After several rounds I grew too frustrated with the bag. I brought the bag back to the store. I didn't have my receipt but the sticker on the bottom confirmed it was from the store. At first the manager said I was past my 30 day allowance and that he couldn't re- sell it since it was used. He also said the manufacturer would not take it back. I didn't abuse the bag and I wasn't belligerent with him. He graciously made an exception and allowed me to shop that day with a full refund. I didn't take notice of his name but he has a distinctive beard. Shout out to him and the well stocked store. Don't hesitate to shop there.

The PGA TOUR Superstore is the largest retail golf store that I have ever visited. Its size can be overwhelming if one has no clue that for which product, they are shopping. The store has certified teaching professionals that comprehend the game of golf and can provide you with the best choices in golf clubs. The professionals can discover your golf swing by utilizing their state of-the-art swing simulators and hitting bays. They also have a sprawling putting green, and a repair facility. If you want to dress for the part, PGA Tour Superstore has an assortment of men's, women's clothing along with footwear, accessories, and golf balls. The truth of the matter is that they have everything one could imagine. My next visit I will ask one of their professionals for golf clubs advice and then determine if they are as good as their website states.

Thanks for visiting us Andrew. We hope we see you soon for that club advice!

Came here to get a beginners club for driving range. I had no idea what was going on except some recommendations from the internet for beginner clubs: wedge, 7-iron and a hybrid. So I asked an asian female employee to help me out, I forgot her name btw. I was very very very surprised of her level of expertise in golf. It seems she knew it all and she was a fan of the sport. She gave me the best recommendation vs price vs used/new vs future game development on clubs. Super impressed, 5-star experience and was super informative and helpful with what I should start out with. She also walked me through the deals of the store on both used and new ones. She was able to recommend me the size of the club and the reputation of the club. So it was left for me to choose between a wedge vs 4 hybrid. I chose the 4 hybrid because it covers mid range vs wedge that would cover low range My experience was a 10/10 and would definitely go back if I end up getting any more clubs. Absolutely recommend this place and recommend getting advice from the asian female employee, again my fault on now remembering her name

Hey Victor, Thanks so much for taking the time to share your positive experience! Hearing that your experience went well really makes our day. We truly value your recommendation, and are confident we can continue to provide excellent service in the future. Hope you visit us again soon!

I got fitted for new irons, I ended up purchasing them and spent a lot of money. My receipt said 3-4 weeks and I have now been waiting for 8 and it could possibly take 10. Their customer service is horrendous. They don't see how bad their business is by saying 3-4 weeks and then taking 10. They refuse to do anything to right this wrong, I cant even get a gift card. I highly recommend against going there for a fitting, you will receive little to no information on the status of your order, and will receive no help when trying to track it down.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience getting fitted here at the PGA Tour Superstore. Whenever we place a special order for clubs we try and give the most accurate dates we can based on the information we get from the manufacturers. Sometimes those dates are not as accurate as we want them to be. We will continue to work to improve our communication between the manufacturers and our customers. I visited the PGA Golf Super Store hoping to get some guidance as a beginner in golf. However, the staff was unhelpful and dismissive. When I asked for advice on starter sets, they simply pointed and said they're all the same based on my budget. A disappointing experience overall. We found more assistance at Dick's Sporting Goods.

Aug 16, 2023

I apologize for the disappointing experience you had here. We strive to give all our customers a one-on-one experience and always want them to have all their questions answered before they make a purchase. We will take all the necessary steps in order to improve the overall experience and thank you for your feedback. Regards; Noel Yulfo Experience Manager Office: (516) 824-3000

I was looking for a new set of Ping irons. I shopped and walked around for 40-45 minutes and never had a single associate ask if they could help or even say hello. All seemed too important as though they judged me unworthy. Prices here were no better on any of the gear than other sporting goods retailers. Other than the indoor golfing simulators, I found nothing here worth the effort. But even T the simulators, standing there 5 minutes to ask about trying a club resulted in no one acknowledged my presence. I went elsewhere and purchased my G425 Ping irons.

Photo of Ramu H.

Ok store. If you are in the market for 100 ping towels or regular flex Callaway drivers this store is for you. Nothing unique in the golf world. Basic as basic gets.

Golf boom boosts PGA Tour Superstore's expansion on Long Island

A PGA Tour Superstore in Charlotte, N.C.

A pandemic-related golf boom is helping PGA Tour Superstore swing into its third location in New York State..

The golf equipment and clothing retailer will open a 40,000-square-foot store in the Mayfair Shopping Center on Jericho Turnpike in Commack in late summer, PGA Tour Superstore spokeswoman Megan Mahoney said.

The stores also sell tennis and pickleball equipment.

“This growing chain brings something completely new and different to Mayfair Shopping Center and undoubtedly will be a tremendous draw for golf and tennis enthusiasts in the community,” E.J. Moawad, a senior leasing representative at Levin Management Corp., said in a statement. Levin is a Plainfield, New Jersey-based real estate firm that manages leasing for the shopping center.

There are 60 PGA Tour Superstores, including one in Westbury and one in White Plains. Eight new stores opened last year and eight more are being added in 2023.

The Commack store will employ 40 to 50 people, Mahoney said.

Started in 2004, PGA Tour Superstores offer a host of interactive playing options, Mahoney said.

“Our practice-and-play hitting bays is an experiential enhancement we added to our stores at the end of 2022. They include a more social atmosphere where friends and family can play together,” she said.

The Commack store will have four golf simulators, a 1,300-square-foot putting green, six practice-and-play hitting bays, custom golf club fittings and certified teaching professionals, she said.

Averaging 40,000 to 50,000 square feet, PGA Tour Superstores are operated by Golf & Tennis Pro Shop Inc., a subsidiary of AMB Sports and Entertainment that is headquartered in metro Atlanta.

AMB is owned by Arthur M. Blank, who co-founded The Home Depot and owns an NFL team, the Atlanta Falcons; a Major League soccer team, Atlanta United; and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

From 2020 to 2022, PGA Tour Superstores added 17 stores, and sales rose 90% chainwide, in part because of the public’s increased interest in golf during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mahoney said.

The changing landscape regarding why and how people are playing golf is helping the sport’s popularity, too, she said.

“People are playing more for fun and social aspects,” said Mahoney, who added that players are experimenting more with golf in different formats, such as with indoor golf course simulators.

In the first quarters of 2021 to 2023, the number of rounds played at golf facilities nationwide averaged 17% more than the average during the same periods in 2017 through 2019, before the pandemic, according to the National Golf Foundation, a Jupiter, Florida-based trade association.

The PGA Tour Superstore in Commack will occupy most of the space vacated in 2021 by a Best Market grocery store, which occupied a 60,300-square-foot space at 84 Jericho Tpke.

Bethpage-based Best Market sold 27 of its stores, including all 24 on Long Island, to German discount grocer Lidl in 2019.

Lidl closed the Best Market in Commack in February 2021 for renovations and conversion to the Lidl name, but later decided to open the new Lidl in a different, smaller space in the shopping center.

The Mayfair Shopping Center is a 222,000-square-foot property whose other tenants include Planet Fitness, The Crushed Olive, Bagel Toasterie, Rite Aid, Capital One, Outback Steakhouse and Verizon.

The Superstore is more than a place to buy your next golf club, though. The 39,109 square foot facility is equipped with six Practice and Play hitting bays where friends and family can participate in indoor golf simulations.

Using these same simulators, the Superstore offers golf lessons from certified teaching professionals for golfers of all abilities.

“Our customer-experience mentality is unmatched in the golf specialty retail business,” says Jill Thomas, Chief Marketing Officers of PGA Tour Superstore. “Combine

that with our professional expertise, interactive environment and everything needed to play, we inspire all players from beginners to avid golfers to have fun and enjoy the game,”

The superstore sells equipment for players of all ages, sizes, and abilities, enforcing the idea that golf is a sport for the masses. According to PGA Tour Superstore, they are “focused on growing the game and helping people play their best.”

“Commack is an obvious location to expand our presence on Long Island and we look forward to opening our doors,” added Thomas.

“We are the second store opening on Long Island,” says Commack Store Manager Andrew Kopf. “The first was in Westbury, and one other in White Plains, making three in New York.”

According to Golf Datatech and PGA Tour, the town of Smithtown is a large up-and-coming golfing community: “There are nearly 70 golf courses in the greater Smithtown community and rounds played in the Region are up more than 50 percent compared to last year.”

This could be a further result of various other golf-related businesses opening up around the area. Just two years ago, nationally renowned driving range TopGolf opened their first location on Long Island off I-495 in Holtsville. Additionally, the Superstore opens just months after X-Golf, a competing indoor golf simulator, opening its doors in a neighboring shopping center of Commack.

The PGA Superstore provides customers with access to the same technology and expertise as card-carrying PGA Tour pros through their state-of-the-art swing simulators and practice hitting bays. The store also has an in-house club making and repair facility, and carries major brands like TaylorMade, PING, Barstool Golf, Callaway, Bridgestone, Wilson, Volvik, and more. Their accessories, apparel and footwear span from adults, women’s and men’s to junior’s and children’s with major brands such as Lily Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines, Jamie Sadock, and TravisMathew. They also sell limited tennis and pickleball equipment.

The opening of The PGA Superstore means big things for a large golf community with limited supply stores. The greater Smithtown area will surely feel their presence and influence over our local golfers, and perhaps inspire more to learn the game.

The PGA Tour Superstore is located at 84 Jericho Turnpike in Commack in the Mayfair Shopping Center.

PGA TOUR Superstore Coming to Mayfair Shopping Center

Leading Golf Retailer Commits to 40,000 SF at Commack, N.Y., Property.

pga tour superstore long island

PGA TOUR Superstore  – the country’s leading specialty retailer for golf and tennis – is continuing its regional expansion with a new location at  Mayfair Shopping Center  in Commack. Commercial real estate services firm  Levin Management Corporation (LMC)  secured the 40,000-square-foot anchor commitment as the property’s exclusive leasing and managing agent.

E.J. Moawad, LMC senior leasing representative, negotiated the transaction on behalf of Mayfair Shopping Center’s ownership; Hugh Scullin of Katz & Associates represented the tenant. The new Commack store marks PGA TOUR Superstore’s third New York location and will open later this year, joining existing stores in Westbury and White Plains.

PGA TOUR Superstore is a one-stop shop for golfers of all skill levels. Staffed with teaching professionals, in-store offerings include state-of-the-art swing simulators, practice and play hitting bays, and a 1,300-square-foot putting green. There is also custom club fitting and repair. Along with equipment and accessories, PGA TOUR Superstore carries the largest selection of men's, women's and juniors' apparel and footwear. Stores also sell tennis and pickleball equipment and accessories, and offer racquet restringing services.

“PGA TOUR Superstore’s customer-experience focus is unmatched in the golf retail business,” said Moawad. “This growing chain brings something completely new and different to Mayfair Shopping Center and undoubtedly will be a tremendous draw for golf and tennis enthusiasts in the community.”

Mayfair Shopping Center sits on heavily traveled Jericho Turnpike, just east of the Sunken Meadow Parkway, drawing 1.7 million visits per year, according to real time traffic data from Placer.ai. The PGA TOUR Superstore commitment continues a period of strong leasing activity at the 222,000-square-foot property.

Mayfair Shopping Center’s newest tenants include top-ranked grocer Lidl, Planet Fitness, The Crushed Olive, Bagel Toasterie and Meet Bar & Izakaya. Another new restaurant, JBBQ & Shabu Shabu, is opening soon. These fresh faces have joined an existing strong lineup of national, regional and local retailers and service providers.

LMC is marketing availabilities ranging from 1,200 up to 21,000 square feet at Mayfair Shopping Center. The property serves a growing residential population of more than 200,000 people within a five-mile radius, and the marketplace offers an average household income of $170,000. More than 38,000 vehicles pass Mayfair Shopping Center each day along Jericho Turnpike.

For seven decades, LMC has served as a trusted single-source commercial real estate services provider for institutional and private owners. Its diversified, retail-focused leasing and management portfolio includes 125 properties totaling almost 16 million square feet in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states.

PGA TOUR Superstore Coming to Mayfair Shopping Center

Along with equipment and accessories, PGA TOUR Superstore carries the largest selection of men’s, women’s and juniors’ apparel and footwear.

Customers can also practice putting on the 1,260 square foot putting green. The Commack location also offers custom club fitting with its STUDIO™, an additional four simulators and lessons from certified teaching professionals for golfers of all abilities.

“Our customer-experience mentality is unmatched in the golf specialty retail business. PGA Tour Superstore: A Part of the Community

PGA_Superstore_Pic_CROP (1)

When many people hear the name PGA Tour Superstore, the immediate thought may be that it’s a place that only serves a person’s golf needs.

But that certainly is not the case, and the nationwide brand had made a name for itself in the tennis industry, including at the location here on Long Island in Westbury.

“We have people here, including a master stringer and tennis professionals, who are just tennis people,” said Anthony Chiofalo, Events and Tournament Marketing Manager at the Westbury store. “We offer programs for schools and high-level players, as well as for the recreational players who want to just go out and hit on a Saturday morning. Our people are local, so they know the area, and they are all about tennis.”

In recent months, the folks at PGA Tour Superstore have expanded the tennis section of the store, adding in a new display, which makes it easier to showcase the new products, including rackets and bags, that they offer. As they are always bringing in the latest in tennis apparel, it’s important for them to always be offering its customers the top-of-the-line equipment, says Chiofalo.

“We have programs that are strictly designed for both golf and tennis events. A lot of golf outings now are doing tennis activities as part of their events, so we naturally help them out,” he added. “We have different discounts we offer to people, in addition to that. If people come out to an event just for the tennis end of it, we have discount cards, towels and other giveaways. It’s a great way to make them feel like they are a part of our family and community.”

Being a store that is entrenched in the local community and taking pride in giving back, is something that is at the top of the priority list for PGA Tour Superstore across all of its stores in the United States.

“It’s the No. 1 priority of the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation and Arthur Blank himself,” said Chiofalo, referring to the owner of the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons, who is also the owner of PGA Tour Superstore. “He provides us as a store the opportunity to give back to our local community and local foundations. We have many offerings here at the store.”

Recently, the Westbury location hosted an event on the 18 th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, to honor first responders and raise money for charities: The New York State Troopers Memorial Fund and the FDNY Burn Center.

Guests were invited to the store to take part in a number of activities including a driving contest, a putting contest and a closest-to-the-pin contest. There was food and refreshments provided, and the event raised about $600 for the charities.

“We open the store for events all the time,” said Chiofalo. “For fun or fundraising, just come by and ask. We can set it up.”

Despite being a company that is nationwide, with stores all across the country, PGA Tour Superstore has made it clear that one of its goals is to be a key component of the local communities in which they exist. That is evidenced by the array of events, programming and fundraisers it holds throughout the year, the Westbury location hosts free clinics as well as Kids Zone events on a monthly basis.

Those initiatives are something that Blank and the PGA Tour Superstore corporate offices take great pride in, and can be clearly seen in the way the Westbury location operates and engrains itself with the local happenings of its area.

PGA Tour Superstore just opened its 41 st store in the country, in Sarasota, Fla., after opening one up in Boston, Mass. earlier this year.

“The original goal was open about 50 stores, but it looks like we are going to go way past that,” said Chiofalo.

The Mission Statement of the PGA Tour Superstore says “only we have the knowledge, passion, depth of assortment and experience to inspire golfers and tennis players everywhere to play better, have more fun and grow the game. As a part of the Blank Family of Businesses, we observe our Core Values as an important part of how we operate each day. We invite you to learn more about the Blank Family of Businesses and our Core Values, and discover how we are giving back to our communities”, something it takes pride in trying to emphasize on a daily basis.

Whether you are an avid tennis player, an avid golfer, or a little bit of both, PGA Tour Superstore has become a go-to destination for your needs, and in the process, continues to do its part in growing the games and helping to better its community.
