Come with us on a Ghost tour of Prague – a walk of Prague’s most grim and tragic past as we weave along the narrow, cobblestone streets of the Old Town – streets where murderers, alchemists, magicians, demons and spirits once roamed. Our tour takes you away from the crowds and bustle of Old Town Square and into the eeriest parts of Prague, sites which once were dens of poverty, plagues, and magic. Learn of the people and places from the Old Town’s gruesome past, too often forgotten today and only rarely featured in other night tours of the City. You will hear stories of suffering, betrayal, and death, of ghosts and dark arts, of demonic nightmares and saintly visions. Hear us tell of the restless spirits which roam amongst the beautiful buildings of the Old Town. Who knows, you may even come face to face with one of them!

Are you afraid of ghosts?

No one will jump out at you to try to scare you. On this tour we focus on storytelling and not on special effects or cheap tricks to make the tour ‘frightening’. We will take you through the mysteries, legends and tales from the darker side of Prague’s history , and none of our stories are made up for the tour.

This is a tour for skeptics and believers alike, or those who want to experience a different side of Prague from the regular historical tours .

You will have the opportunity to see places, where alchemists produced elixir of eternal youth, Philosopher’s Stone, and non-precious metals changed into gold.

Escape Rooms

Prague’s legendary horror escape room – the chamber.

Atmosphere exactly like from “ The Exorcist ” horror movie classic. Old Victorian House, squeaking floor, weird sounds. Let’s dive into the world that will remind you of the actual lightness of your being. World, where self-moving objects, banging doors, and voices coming from the walls are just the tip of the iceberg. Can you defeat an enemy you can’t see?

Where to find us

What, if not the magic of the “Alchemist Metropolis” could make me as an author of classic horror literature burn all bridges in my home country, just to wander endlessly through cobblestone streets? Since 2019 I have been working mainly as a storyteller and have since completed over 300 performances, worked with the Münchhausen-Museum Bodenwerder – home of the historical Baron – and teach courses on the art of storytelling. To have the opportunity to bring some of these stories closer to Prague’s guests in the city with the most legends in the entire world, where every street has its own Ghost, is a privilege for me.

For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by stories of centuries past and legends. That lead me to become a profesional historian and a performer. For almost ten years I have been trying to bring the past closer to people of this day through performances of living history, storytelling, theatre, dancing and writing. The art and history one can encounter in the web of old and tiny streets of Prague has enchanted me and made me its resident. My creativity sees this city as a well of endless inspiration. I love to walk in footsteps of people from long ago, touch the walls and objects they touched and tell the stories of their lifes and sometimes their afterlife. I can’t wait to take you on an evening walk through the wonderful city of Prague and share with you the stories that have deeply touched me.

Prague, a capital with a history going back tens of thousands of years, was a major regional powerhouse and an integral part of the Roman Empire. Charles IV , a Bohemian monarch and later a Roman Emperor, founded this country’s capital.

We cannot discuss Prague’s history without mentioning its tragic past. Prague has tales, legends, and ghosts thanks to the city’s turbulent past. Additionally, Prague recognizes and cherishes modern-day historical sites associated with tragedy and death during occupation and war.

We have compiled a list of Prague’s main legends and ghost tales. If you’re the type of traveler who enjoys a little eerie history or if you’re looking to fill a short vacation with some spooky sightseeing, consider joining us for a ghost tour in Prague. A weekend spent in Prague’s dark past is hard to beat!

Enjoy Prague ghosts and legends of old town walking tourwith us as you listen to ancient Prague legends when the underground rooms were in use, and imagine what life was like for the city’s residents back then. You’ll also check out the Prague Dungeon, a medieval torture museum, and an execution site.

Prague’s Dark History: 5 Main Legends and Ghosts

To say that Prague has a dark past would be an understatement. Haunted hotspots in the Czech capital, the disembodied spirits of Charles Bridge, and the sinister past of Faust House are but a few of the eerie things in Prague. Below, we will discuss the most prominent legends and ghost stories in depth.

Charles bridge Prague

Tours start at Charles Bridge . Charles Bridge spooks. St. John of Nepomuk’s death is the most famous bridge narrative, but Satan also plays a role.

Prague legends say Charles Bridge collapsed near where Nepomuk was killed for protecting a secret from King Wenceslas IV.

A youthful stonemason known as Jan repaired Charles Bridge after numerous failed tries. Jan’s greatest efforts couldn’t preserve the bridge, so he was devastated that he couldn’t break the spell.

The devil promised Jan he’d fix the bridge in time for the first soul to pass. Jan didn’t want his commitment to cost anyone’s life, including his own. He wanted a chicken or cat to cross the bridge first.

The floodwaters wrecked Charles Bridge. Everyone stopped fixing the bridge because they thought it was cursed. After finishing, the devil told Jan’s expectant wife that Jan had been in an accident as an ancient stonemason. Jan’s wife crossed the bridge to find him in the market.

Jan’s wife went into labour, and she and the baby died.  Jan threw himself into the river as he wept bitterly.

Prague’s Golem

On any Prague ghost and legends tour, you are sure to hear the story of the Golem, the city’s most famous legend. In the 1600s, anti-Jewish animosity was stoked by Roman Emperor Rudolf II in Prague.

Rudolf II’s reign aimed to unite Austria under the Catholic Church. To that end, Hitler encouraged a period of widespread fear among Jewish people.

By breaking a cardinal rule of Kabbalah, Rabbi Loew made life in order to protect the Jews of Prague.

Rabbi Loew used the true name of God, an ancient family secret, to breathe life into the clay Golem he had sculpted.

Using a religious parchment, Rabbi Loew had the Golem harass the non-Jews of Prague.

Instantaneously, people began pleading with Rabbi Loew to halt the Golem. In return, the Jews of Prague were left alone.

Despite Rabbi Loew’s best efforts, the Golem is still living in the New-Old Synagogue’s basement in Prague.

Native American

A Native man from the USA who passed away in Prague and was longing for his homeland is the focus of one of the city’s most terrifying ghost tales.

Around the year 1900, Prague was a hotspot for Wild West shows. It was “normal” to cast Native Americans in villainous roles.

During their time in Prague, one of the  Americans fell unwell. Lung inflammation ultimately proved fatal, most likely due to tuberculosis.

The dying man’s final wish was to go back and be cremated in his native country. On Tvanice Island in Prague, he passed away.

Since he was not a Christian, he could not be buried in any Christian cemetery. Instead, his friends from the Wild West show interred his body in Na Frantiku.

The American’s ghost reportedly can’t leave Prague. When the sun is shining, he can be seen sitting by the river and daydreaming about his hometown.

There is no trace of his burial. Grab a souvenir store bones or his pipe and take it to the Southwest United States, and he can rest easy.

The Iron Knight

The Iron Knight, at times, termed the Dark Knight, is a famous Prague ghost. Jáchym Berka was indeed a knight in love.

When Jáchym was still at war, rumours of his fiancée’s adultery got to him. When Jáchym came home, he killed her.

The dying woman condemned Jáchym to atone. He became a stone when cursed.

As she requested, he lives as a stone statue, and every 100 years, he haunts Prague, yearning for pardon. A good maiden’s kiss can break his curse.

Duchess Drahomra of Stodor

In once pagan Czech, when so many had embraced Christianity, the Duchess proclaimed her new religion, but secretly, she resumed her Pagan habits. She performed secret ceremonies and sacrificed to Slavic gods at her fortress.

She reportedly forged a contract with the devil to hinder Christianity from spreading. She instructed two goons to strangle her devotedly pious mother-in-law.

She was shunned from Bohemia and escaped Prague by carriage. When they heard church bells ringing, the carriage driver left for prayer.

The devil grabbed her soul when she was defenseless and weak. He dragged her through a fissure beneath the church courtyard into hell.

Often after midnight, the fiery carriage might often be seen close to her damnation site.

Prague is a fairytale city... until night falls and the narrow streets of the old town overflow with legends and ghosts . Discover them on this dramatised  night tour ...

Mysteries and legends tour of Prague

Medieval churches, streets which seem to be ripped straight from the pages of a fairytale... the charm of the Czech capital disappears with the sun. Accompanied by a guide in period costume, we'll set off on our nighttime tour of Prague. We'll be taken on a journey through the most gruesome legends, mysteries and ghosts, which are only more terrifying with the sun down.

We'll begin our tour un the Old Town Square. The mass tourism this central spot is known for by day has nothing to do with its character by night. The peaked and suggestive towers of the  Týn Church  mark our path, diving into the nooks of the oldest area in the city. Passing through its narrow paved roads we'll learn about how the horror and tragedy of senseless humanity took over these streets not long ago...

The tormented past of the city stops certain melancholic souls from sleeping soundly. The ghosts of Prague are something slightly more than myth. We'll learn of their spookiest stories mixed in with paranormal activities which modern science remains unable to fully explain. And despite being forgotten, some of the abandoned cemetaries will show the less friendly face of Bohemia.

We'll also run through Prague's old Jewish Neighbourhood , looking for the legends which this area of the city guards. Dripping with the mysteries of the hidden Prague , we'll return to the point at which we began: the Old Town Square.

Tour Details

As night falls and the crowds thin, we’ll take you from the Old Town Square, across the river Vltava, to see the palaces, monasteries and monuments of Prague Castle. This tour gives you a unique view of this famous site when the crowds are gone and the tours depart, we will introduce you to some of the darker parts of the Castle’s history.

We will walk through the lanes and courtyards where alchemists and astrologers once worked, visit the monastery, hear about the “Devil’s Bible”, and stop for a while by “Hole to Hell”. Your guide will lead you through the city’s dark and often esoteric history, from “Good King” Wenceslas to Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV and on to the golden age of Prague during the rule of Emperor Rudolf II. As well as some stunning views of Prague by night, you’ll also have the chance to see the Golden Lane, once the home of Franz Kafka. This tour also includes a short tram ride (ticket is included in the tour price).
