Encore is a woman-owned and WBE certified, Corporate Travel Management Company founded in 1976 and acquired by Monique Mardinian in 1987, who dreamed of a travel agency that would provide companies insight into and control over their travel spend. With her background in actuarial science, Monique applied a data-based approach to the corporate travel industry, and hasn’t stopped innovating since. Christina Woronchak President

A corporate travel industry veteran, Christina brings a wealth of knowledge from her distinguished career. She led sales and customer experience at Deem, recently acquired by our partner, Travelport, and played key roles at American Express Global Business Travel. Her commitment to excellence is genuinely evident. 

Christina now leads our go-to-market strategy. She’s passionate about our proprietary Zii™ Travel Management platform and is eager to share its innovative solutions worldwide.

Kevin Jacobs Head of Strategy, Growth & Corporate Development

Kevin’s at the helm of our strategic endeavors, bringing with him a wealth of experience spanning more than 25 years in the global travel industry. His journey began with British Airways in London, and he went on to hold key positions in the USA, including senior roles at STA Travel, Travelport, and Avelo Airlines.

His wholehearted dedication to driving positive change ,  nurturing strong relationships , and consistently delivering outstanding results not only boosts our expertise but also enhances how we support our valued clients and partners . 

As Head of Strategy, Growth, and Corporate Development, Kevin not only steers us towards exciting new opportunities but also guides us on the path to success by helping us work smarter, explore new avenues, and navigate our way into the future.

Jake Jonassohn Head of Commercial Strategy

Jake leads our commercial strategy efforts here at Encore. He embodies  innovative thinking as well as  long-term vision and has a watchful eye on core organizational values. In order to develop, sustain and improve your business these 3 elements need to align. By doing so you: 1- Build a team you would want to join, 2 – Develop services and products you would want to use and 3 – Truly stand by and live up to your mission and values. In this day and age, this is the ideal trifecta, but the secret sauce, according to Jake is seeking opportunities that shadow this same philosophy. 

He began his career in private equity, learning how to optimize business processes to improve financial performance. He uses that knowledge from a travel perspective to help Encore’s clients achieve their goals. Graduating top of his class from Concordia University, with a degree in Finance.

Christian Labonté Head of Technology

Christian has a remarkable 14-year track record in software development. Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Computer Science from Université Laval and a Master’s in Computer Science from Dalhousie University, Christian led the charge on cutting-edge research, exploring the world of secure multicasting on active virtual private networks. His groundbreaking findings were not just discussed at two prestigious international conferences but also made their way into the pages of two IEEE publications.

Christian’s tech journey kicked off in the dynamic R&D landscapes of industry giants.

As CTO, he’s channeling his innovative leadership into our proprietary tool, Zii- merging academic excellence and hands-on industry experience to deliver what our clients need .

Jesse Jonassohn Head of Operations

Jesse’s the driving force behind all things related to travel operations, where she’s revolutionizing and streamlining our day-to-day interactions with Travelers —a vital ingredient in our organizational growth. 

Her dynamic leadership spans various departments, guiding the transition to more efficient processes that our teams have happily embraced. These fresh approaches have proven to be instrumental in our Travel Advisors’ success, reinforcing that a happy Travel Advisor translates to a well supported Traveler.  

Jesse’s distinctive blend of practical experience and academic expertise, focused on consumer behavior, equips her with a profound understanding of our clients’ movements and next steps , enhancing our operational excellence.

Discover: Encore Fitness (Moscow)

MOSCOW, RUSSIA —  Encore Fitness, a new chain of health clubs in Russia, is opening a flagship fitness centre in Moscow.

The 3,900 sq ft venue, set to become the largest fitness club in Moscow City, will feature eight fitness zones based around the latest global trends and innovations.

A cardio theatre, functional training zone, Pilates studio, group fitness area, balance studio and a martial arts zone with a professional boxing ring will occupy the ground floor, with the second floor housing a spacious 25m pool with relaxation and hydro-massage areas.

The club’s unique thermal complex including a steam room, sauna, hammam, snow room and salt spa, will also be available to members.

Offering a diverse range of activities, over 60 different classes including BodyPump, TRX, and yoga will feature in the club’s extensive schedule. A new online heart rate monitoring system from Myzon will allow guests to get the most out of each and every workout.

Serving a range of healthy, well-balanced dishes alongside juices and detox cocktails, the club’s in-house cafe will cater to every fitness goal.

WestJet Service Update: YYZ Gate Gourmet potential labour disruption impact

Due to a potential labour disruption with Gate Gourmet in Toronto, WestJet flights operating on Boeing 737 aircraft departing or arriving at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) may experience an inconsistent food or beverage offering as early as Tuesday, April 16. To limit potential disruption, WestJet has proactively prepared contingency plans to ensure critical supplies are available onboard. Guests who are eligible to receive an inflight meal including those in the Premium cabin or Extended Comfort seating, and all guests travelling on transatlantic flights will receive either an alternative option or a food and beverage voucher for use in the terminal, pre-departure. In addition, WestJet is advising guests travelling to or from Toronto to plan ahead and bring an extra snack and/or beverage for their journey.

Watch every single shot from the biggest names in golf throughout round 3 at the 2024 masters.

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The third day of action at the 2024 Masters is going to be a significant one as Moving Day meets Augusta National with the leaderboard undoubtedly shifting ahead of the tournament's final 18 holes. Two days of pristine golf at the nation's best course remain with the best hoping to finish not just in the money but as high up the leaderboard as possible.

The grounds are filled to capacity with patrons, and they were undoubtedly keen to see how Tiger Woods continues to play after he created Masters history on Friday by making his 24th consecutive cut , a tournament record. Woods also hit 22 of 36 fairways through his first two rounds, his best such mark since 1999.

Though he was on the edge of contention entering Saturday, after shooting his highest nine-hole total in Masters history going 6 over on the first nine, Tiger is now firmly out of contention with some questioning whether he will finish 72 holes at all. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy -- after an extended session on the range Friday night -- shot one of the better rounds of Saturday's early wave. Neither he nor reigning Masters champion Jon Rahm are a threat to those atop the leaderboard.

Far more likely to find the winner's circle is Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 green jacket winner seeking to win his second in three years. Scheffler entered as an overwhelming favorite and sits +100 to win the tournament entering Saturday's third round. He is one of three men tied atop the leaderboard with Max Homa the author of Friday's best performance and Bryson DeChambeau holding steady looking for his second major championship and first since 2020. Agency will detain imports of work gloves manufactured using convict labor

WASHINGTON — Effective today, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel at all U.S. ports of entry will detain work gloves manufactured by Shanghai Select Safety Products Company, Limited and its two subsidiaries from China, Select (Nantong) Safety Products Co. Limited and Select Protective Technology (HK) Limited.

CBP issued a Withhold Release Order (WRO) against Shanghai Select Safety Products Company, Limited and its two subsidiaries Nantong and HK, based on information that reasonably indicates the use of convict labor in violation of 19 U.S.C. § 1307 in the production of that merchandise. The International Labour Organization estimates that nearly 28 million workers suffer under conditions of forced labor worldwide, and WROs are a way to send a message to foreign companies exploiting workers that this will not be tolerated in U.S. supply chains. Forced labor exposes vulnerable populations to inhumane working conditions, and also hurts American workers and law-abiding businesses who cannot compete with forced labor goods that are sold below market value.

“The U.S. government sets the standard across the globe for ethical and responsible commercial transactions as we prioritize our efforts in combatting forced labor,” said CBP Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner Troy A. Miller. “We continue to see the impacts of our actions as companies implement plans of action to remediate indicators of forced labor, resulting in improved living and working conditions for laborers, and so it is essential to continue this work until we’ve eliminated forced labor from our supply chains.”

The use of convict labor to produce goods imported into the United States in order to sell goods below market value is a violation of Section 1307, and hurts law-abiding businesses, threatens American jobs, and exposes consumers to the risk of making unethical purchases.

The WRO against Shanghai Select Safety Products Company, Limited is the latest action the United States has taken to address forced labor and other human rights abuses around the world. With this WRO issuance, CBP currently oversees and enforces 52 WROs and eight Findings under 19 U.S.C. § 1307. This law prohibits the importation of “[a]ll goods, wares, articles, and merchandise mined, produced, or manufactured wholly or in part in any foreign country by convict labor or/and forced labor, or/and indentured labor under penal sanctions . . . ,” which includes forced or indentured child labor. When CBP has information reasonably indicating that imported goods are made by forced labor in violation of Section 1307, the agency will order personnel at U.S. ports of entry to detain shipments of those goods. Such shipments will be excluded or subjected to seizure and forfeiture if the importer fails to demonstrate proof of admissibility in accordance with applicable regulations.

“We have been clear that we will not tolerate any form of forced labor in U.S. supply chains,” said CBP Executive Assistant Commissioner AnnMarie R. Highsmith. “We encourage like-minded partners to join us in supporting fair competition in the global marketplace.”

“We continue to send a strong message to the importing community that the United States will not tolerate forced labor and human rights abuses in our supply chains,” said Robert Silvers, DHS Under Secretary for Policy and Chair of the federal Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force. “CBP’s actions today demonstrate that we will enforce all of our forced labor laws vigorously.”

I-75/M-48 overpass repair projects in Chippewa County start April 29

April 15, 2024

NEWBERRY, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $5 million to repair two M-48 overpasses over I-75 in Chippewa County. Work includes deck overlays; deck, substructure and structural patching; railing replacement; expansion joint replacement; partial painting; beam end cutting; and approach work. This project includes two separate structures to be repaired in two stages. Stage one is the M-48 overpass over I-75 to the south connecting M-129 to Mackinac Trail. Stage two is the M-48 overpass over I-75 to the north near Rudyard. Work will require closing both structures with detours.

County: Chippewa

Closest towns: Rudyard, Kinross

Start date: Monday, April 29, 2024 (stage one)

Estimated end date: Friday, Oct. 18, 2024 (stage one)

Friday, Aug. 29, 2025 (both overpasses complete)

Traffic restrictions (stage one):

• I-75:  Northbound and southbound I-75 will be reduced to one lane each, speed will be reduced to 45 mph where workers present, and a 12-foot width restriction will be in place.
• M-48: Will be closed at I-75. Eastbound and westbound traffic will be detoured to M-129, Mackinac Trail, and M-80

Jobs numbers: Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 61 jobs.

Safety benefit: This work will extend the service life of the existing overpasses to maintain safe roadways for all users.
