Sammy Hagar Announces ‘Best Of All Worlds’ Tour With Joe Satriani

November 14, 2023 —by VHND Leave a Comment

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer SAMMY HAGAR is embarking on the long-awaited “THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS” 2024 tour. Hagar will be joined by rock heavyweights and longtime bandmates MICHAEL ANTHONY (bass, backing vocals), JASON BONHAM (drums) and revealed on Nov 14 on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show that JOE SATRIANI, one of the best guitar players in the world, will complete the band. Produced by Live Nation and featuring special guests Loverboy, the 28-date tour will commence on July 13 in West Palm Beach, FL and will conclude on August 31 in St. Louis, MO. Pre-sales begin on Wednesday, November 15 at 10 am. General on-sale begins Friday, November 17 at 10am local. For tickets and more details, go to RedRocker.com .

“It’s crazy to think that it’ll be 20 years since Mikey and I played these songs with Van Halen on the 04’ Best of Both Worlds Tour,” said Hagar. “With Joe on board, we can take a deeper dive into those years. We’re going to touch on some hits from my entire career but seeing fans old and new really embrace the new collection set off something in Mikey and I. We were at my Birthday Bash in Cabo for my 76th and looked at each other and high fived, like ‘let’s do it.’ We pulled out a couple of them and it was an instant lovefest with the fans from our first riffs. The music we created is going to outlive us all. They deserve to be heard so it’s time we go out and serve the fans that music, while we still can.”

The tour follows on the heels of the chart-topping success of THE COLLECTION II, the box set released October 6 featuring newly remastered versions of the four consecutive #1 albums released during the Hagar era of Van Halen: 5150 (1986), OU812 (1988), FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE (1991), and BALANCE (1995). A reminder to fans of the arsenal of hits, many which haven’t been played live since the band’s 2004 reunion tour.

Collectively, Anthony, Satriani and Bonham have played together in nearly every phase of Hagar’s career including Van Halen, Chickenfoot and The Circle, so fans can expect a setlist which draws from some of the biggest rock anthems of the last 4-decades, including, Finish What Ya Started, 5150, Your Love is Driving Me Crazy, Best of Both Worlds, Poundcake, Sexy Little Thing, One Way To Rock, Right Now, Good Enough, Eagles Fly and more. They’ve also enlisted legendary Australian musician, Rai Thistlethwayte on keyboard and backing vocals. The tour represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see this band of brothers deliver one of the most legendary hits-packed live shows of their career.

Sammy Hagar Announce 2024 Tour With Joe Satriani, Jason Bonham and Michael Anthony

Van Halen Tribute Announce “The Best of All Worlds” Tour

With rock band Loverboy performing as the opening act, frontman Sammy Hagar is working with the trio of bassist Michael Anthony , guitarist Joe Satriani , and drummer Jason Bonham on a Van Halen Tribute Tour “The Best Of All Worlds.”

Coming to hard rock fans in 2024, the tour promises to take rock-and-roll fans on a nostalgic trip back to the good ole Van Halen days. The itinerary starts their North American tour on July 13 in West Palm Beach , Florida. It will touch down in 28 cities before ending on August 31 in St. Louis , Missouri .

Hagar , 76, stepped onstage as Van Halen’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist in 1985 when David Lee Roth and Van Halen parted ways. After leaving in ’96, Hagar came back for a rocking 2004 tour.

Reunion of Hagar and Anthony the Genesis of the Tribute Tour

Recently, Hagar says he and Anthony decided to perform songs from their days playing in Van Halen at Hagar’s annual Birthday Bash last month in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Here’s Sammy Hagar ‘s press statement:

“We pulled out a couple of them, and it was an instant lovefest with the fans from our first riffs. The music we created is going to outlive us all. They deserve to be heard, so it’s time we go out and serve the fans that music while we still can.”

Tribute Tour Bound to Spur Sales or Remastered Albums

Coming off the heels of the re-release of the remastered versions of the four albums of the “ Van Hagar ” era of the band, this seems like perfect timing for their fans who are sure to troop out in thousands to watch them live in concert. No new album or new songs are currently in the works, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see this lineup of the Van Halen Tribute tour to release a live album – time will tell.

The four albums remastered were  5150 (1986), OU812 (1988), For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991), and Balance (1995) and joining the quartet on tour to play songs from these albums on the keyboard and, through his backing vocals will be Australian musician Rai Thistlethwayte .

Van Halen In-house Drama

Many are wondering why original member, Alex Van Halen is not playing drums for this Tribute tour to his brother and the band he rock band he helped create in the 70s.

Even Eddie ‘s son, Wolfgang Van Halen , weighed in on the internal troubles the iconic rock-and-roll band has suffered from for years in an interview with Classic Rock in November of 2022, “When it comes to Van Halen and entities surrounding the band it’s unfortunate … I don’t know what it is with some bands but certain personalities just can’t get over themselves to work collectively for one purpose – that’s been the curse of Van Halen for its entire career.”

But it seems vocalist Sammy Hagar is ready to bury the hatchet and invited not only Alex Van Halen but also original VH frontman David Lee Roth to join them onstage for a reunion for this tribute tour, as you can see from this live interview with the rock band on the Howard Stern Show on November 15th.

Preparing for the Best of All Worlds Tribute Tour

In preparation for the tour, the tribute band has been fine-tuning their setlist and stage production to recreate the larger-than-life concerts that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Van Halen, was known for. From the unmistakable riffs of “ Eruption ” to the anthemic chorus of “ Jump ,” audiences can expect a meticulously crafted set that pays homage to the showmanship of the original members.  No word yet as if Eddie Van Halen ‘s son, Wolfgang Van Halen , will make a guest appearance but we wouldn’t be surprised to at least see him somewhere backstage.

On a poster for The Best of All Worlds tour, there’s a list of other songs the band will perform, including many of their greatest hits:

Best of All Worlds Tour Poster

Songs vocalist Sammy Hagar recorded with Van Halen : 5150 , When It’s Love , Best of Both Worlds , Finish What Ya Started , Poundcake , Humans Being , Right Now , Good Enough , Eagles Fly .

Hagar solo songs: Your Love is Driving Me Crazy , Heavy Metal , Little White Lie , One Way to Rock , Mas Tequila

The “ Best of All Worlds ” tour promises to be a can’t-miss event on the summer calendar of 2024. Get ready to rock like it’s 1984 all over again because this tour is shaping up to be a fitting salute to the kings of the Sunset Strip.

About Loverboy:

For more than 40 years, Loverboy has been “Working for the Weekend” (and on the weekend), delighting audiences around the world since forming in 1979, when vocalist Mike Reno was introduced to guitar hot shot Paul Dean – both veterans of several bands on the Canadian scene – at Calgary’s Refinery Night Club. Along with Reno and Dean, Loverboy still includes original members Doug Johnson on keyboards and Matt Frenette on drums, with Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve replacing the late Scott Smith on bass.

With their trademark red leather pants, bandannas, big rock sound and high-energy live shows, Loverboy has sold more than 10 million albums, earning four multi-platinum plaques, including the four-million-selling GET LUCKY, and a trio of double-Platinum releases in their self-titled 1980 debut, 1983’s KEEP IT UP and 1985’s LOVIN’ EVERY MINUTE OF IT. Their string of hits includes, in addition to the anthem “Working for the Weekend,” such arena rock staples as “Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” “This Could Be the Night,” “Hot Girls in Love,” “The Kid is Hot Tonite,” “Notorious”, “Turn Me Loose,” “When It’s Over,” “Heaven In Your Eyes” and “Queen of the Broken Hearts.” In September of this year, the group was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto, ON.

About Sammy Hagar:

For more than four decades, Sammy Hagar has been recognized as one of the best and most accomplished lead singers and songwriters in rock music. From breaking into the industry with the seminal hard rock band Montrose, to his multi-platinum solo career, to his ride as the frontman of Van Halen, Chickenfoot and his latest best-selling supergroup, The Circle, Hagar has amassed 25 Platinum albums on sales surpassing 50 million worldwide. Along his journey, he has set the tone for some of the greatest rock anthems ever written with songs like "I Can't Drive 55," "Right Now," and "Why Can't This Be Love," and earned the highest respect of the music industry with a Grammy Award and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Since opening his flagship Cabo Wabo Cantina in 1990, he’s turned a lifelong passion for great food, music and spirits into a thriving and iconic lifestyle brand encompassing restaurants and spirits. A pioneer in the spirits industry, he launched Cabo Wabo Tequila in 1996 and catapulted it into the #2-selling premium tequila brand in the United States. In 2010, Hagar sold his interests in Cabo Wabo Tequila to Gruppo Campari in a 9-figure deal that’s widely credited as the start of the celebrity-owned spirits trend. He now owns an award-winning portfolio of top-shelf spirits and beer that embody that same spirit of Baja beach life and rock ‘n’ roll. They include Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum, a partnership with rock icon Rick Springfield, Santo Spirits, a partnership with tastemaker Guy Fieri, Sammy’s Beach Bar Cocktail Co. and Red Rocker Brewing Co. Never one to hit the brakes, Sammy’s also expanded his successes into publishing, TV, radio and beyond, including five seasons of his hit TV show “Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar” and as host of “Sammy Hagar’s Top Rock Countdown,” a weekly syndicated radio show on 90+ US stations. He’s a #1 NYT bestselling author and his cocktail book, “Sammy Hagar’s Greatest Cocktail Hits,” was awarded the 2023 Independent Publisher Book Awards. He’s also a dedicated philanthropist, donating millions back to local communities through his private non-profit Hagar Family Foundation, and the first Honorary Ambassador to Los Cabos, an honor he was bestowed in 2022 in recognition of his longtime investment in the people and economy of Mexico. Fontana's new Sammy Hagar-backed concert venue is set to open June 15

A pr. 8—The opening of Fontana's Sammy Hagar-associated concert hall has been set for this summer with the former Van Halen frontman playing the first show.

Stage Red — a Sammy Hagar Venue will replace the former Center Stage Theater, which closed in August 2022.

Hagar, also known as the Red Rocker, grew up in Fontana. The musician and songwriter was inducted to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Van Halen in 2007.

Originally, the city planned to open the renovated theater in time for Memorial Day 2023. Opening day was pushed back to March 2024 but budget issues again delayed the theater's debut. Opening day it is now set for June 15.

The original timeline for the project was optimistic, according to Phil Burum, Fontana's deputy city manager.

Construction was slated to start in October, which Burum said would have allowed the city to meet the March opening date. The lowest bid for the project, however, was $2.6 million — $1 million over the anticipated budget.

The City Council updated the budget, Burum said, and the city restarted the bidding process early this year.

The theater has a high rock 'n' roll club feeling, Burum said. The outside of the building has neutral shades of gray and white and at night pops with the use of red neon lights and signs.

Work on the exterior of the theater is nearly complete and crews are now focusing on the interior, Burum said. The Stage Red theme will be prevalent throughout the venue and Burum said the city is looking to add Hagar's gold records and a couple of guitars.

"It's just changing the whole sound and lighting system to a modern system," said Burum. "And changing the interior design aesthetic and making it more Sammy-centric."

The theater serves as a cornerstone for city leaders' plans to create a regional draw in downtown Fontana.

"Stage Red is more than just a venue; it's part of Fontana's cultural resurgence," Mayor Acquanetta Warren said in an email Wednesday, April 3. "With its rich history and vibrant future, Stage Red will bring world-class entertainment to our doorstep and will also enhance our economic growth."

Historically, the theater has generated roughly $200,000 a year in ticket sales, Burum said. Once Stage Red opens, the city expects the venue to reach $2 million to $3 million in annual ticket sales. The sales tax generated will be a boon for Fontana's coffers, according to Burum.

The theater will have three different ticket options for performances three to five nights a week, Burum said. Three ticket options are in the works.

Ideally, the theater will offer a general admission ticket for standing room by the stage for fans who want to be close to the action, a slightly elevated option with seating and cocktail service, and a VIP option which will put guests in balcony seats over the stage, Burum said.

Plans for a VIP meet-and-greet room are also part of the theater's future, he said, allowing guests to meet with the artists in a lounge-like area for a fee.

"So it's a little bit of a different type of a meet-and-greet experience and some artists like Sammy love that interaction," Burum said.

Hagar, who is from Fontana, has partnered with the city to bring the theater to life.

"It's pretty exciting," Burum said. "It's just gonna kind of be his own little personal Hard Rock Cafe."

Burum anticipates shows to roll out slowly over the first couple months and pick up with time. The city has contracted ASM Global, a venue and event management company, to head the day-to-day operations of the theater.

The group manages programming for the Toyota Arena in Ontario, the Los Angeles Convention Center and the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, among other spaces throughout Southern California.

"That contract just started about a month ago," Burum said. "With the grand opening scheduled, they're now starting to line up acts."

Hagar is expected to be the first performance on opening day.

"We closed the Cabo Wabo down a lot more times than we remember," he said, referencing his Cabo San Lucas bar. "It's hard to get thrown out of your own bar and we managed to do that."

Hagar, known for his time playing guitar in Van Halen and solo songs "Heavy Metal" and "I Can't Drive 55," then performed Keith's song "I Love This Bar."

Hagar was one of three performers tapped to pay a musical tribute to the late Toby Keith including Brooks & Dunn, who sang "Shoulda Been a Cowboy," and Lainey Wilson who performed "How Do You Like Me Now?"

Toby Keith, known for his country hit "Should've Been a Cowboy," died in February after battling stomach cancer .

Keith told the world about his cancer battle in June 2022 after a  fall 2021 diagnosis .

"Last fall, I was diagnosed with stomach cancer," he said on social media. "I've spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax. I am looking forward to spending this time with my family."

After Keith died, his family issued a statement saying he "passed peacefully" while "surrounded by family" and that he "he fought his fight with grace and courage."

The performances at Sunday's awards show channelled Keith's grace and courage, bringing his friends and family together as they reminisced and sang.

Holding red Solo cups in honor of another Keith song, the crowd (and performers) raised their cups and sang along.

Famed baseball pitcher Roger Clemens, who introduced the tribute, returned to the stage at the end and asked the crowd chant "Whiskey for my men and beer for my horses."

He teared up as he thanked Keith's widow and his children for sharing their dad with the world.

Sammy Hagar talks friendship with Toby Keith, love of country lifestyle

Prior to the show, Hagar told The Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY Network, that Keith was one of his best friends and he was truly honored to have been asked to participate in the tribute.

Keith and Hagar met in Las Vegas in September 2001.

"I was doing a show at a place and he was playing the next night, so he came in to see my show. We became friends and we hung out in Vegas," Hagar said. "We just really hit it off good."

Turns out, Keith was also a huge Van Halen fan; he loved the 1988 song "Finish What Ya Started."

The two were in Vegas when Bernard Hopkins took on Felix Trinidad boxing in the middleweight championship.

"I bet on Hopkins to win and he won," Hagar said.

"I won $40,000 on the fight and Toby and I took the cash, we stuffed it in a bag and we rented a big, big old van and just went to every bar in town in Vegas," Hagar reminisced.

"He could throw it down pretty good, you know?" Hagar said, with some emotion.

Hagar said that he and Keith would perform "I Love This Bar" together in Cabo San Lucas at Cabo Wabo, the bar Hagar formed alongside the Van Halen crew. Performing the same song during the tribute was the best way to honor Keith and their friendship.

'That was scary': Jelly Roll's private plane makes emergency landing on way to CMT Awards

Although Hagar is a hard rock guy, he's always felt at home in country.

"I have more country friends — rock stars are a little more pretentious than the country guys," he said with a smile.

Hitting the stage at the CMTs just feels right for Hagar. "I'm not a country artist, but a country kind of guy," he said.

Golf | LIV golfers, PGA Tour stars together at the Masters, for now

Liv golf has 13 players in the field, seven of them former champions who can play as long as they want, but that’s down from 18 a year ago and only nine liv players are assured of being back next year.

By DOUG FERGUSON AP Golf Writer

AUGUSTA, Ga. — More than golf’s first major championship of the year, the Masters represents unification. This is the first time since July at the British Open the best players regardless of their tours compete against each other – same course, same tournament, same television network.

“I believe everyone agrees there’s excitement in the air this week,” Masters Chairman Fred Ridley said Wednesday. “The best players in the world are together once again.”

Still unclear at Augusta National is for how much longer.

Saudi-funded LIV Golf has 13 players at the Masters, seven of them former champions who can play as long as they want. That’s down from 18 a year ago. Only nine LIV players are assured of being back to Augusta National next year, depending on how they fare in the majors this year.

Ridley offered little hope the pathway for LIV to Augusta National was about to get wider.

He said the Official World Golf Ranking was a “legitimate determiner” of the best in golf, bad news for a rival league that does not get world ranking points. And while the Masters annually reviews its criteria for invitations, Ridley announced no new changes.

Instead, he leaned on the Masters being an invitational, and the club alone decides who it deems worthy of getting that elegant, cream-colored invitation in the mail.

“If we felt that there were a player or players, whether they played on the LIV Tour or any other tour, who were deserving of an invitation to the Masters, we would exercise that discretion with regard to special invitations,” Ridley said.

The battle is for a green jacket, but that might not be the only competition.

It will be difficult to look at a leaderboard without considering who is with LIV Golf. That much hasn’t changed from last year – the first Masters since LIV was launched – and LIV certainly showed the 54-hole, no-cut league didn’t affect them. Three players were among the top four on the final leaderboard.

And just like last year, there is no animosity inside the ropes.

Phil Mickelson and Joaquin Niemann from LIV Golf played a practice round with Akshay Bhatia, the final player into the field because of his Texas Open victory last week. Xander Schauffele told of running into Dustin Johnson and the two decided to play a practice round, no different from what would have happened long before LIV began luring away players with guaranteed riches.

But the future remains murky.

Augusta National and the other three organizations that run majors have seats on the OWGR board that reviewed LIV’s application to join and get world ranking points. The vote was unanimous not to award points until certain enhancements were met.

LIV eventually decided to withdraw its application, and several players decried the world ranking as no longer relevant.

It is to Ridley and the Masters. The top 50 at the end of the year and a week before the Masters still get invitations. Bryson DeChambeau said the majors, including the Masters, should invite the top 12 from the LIV points list.

Ridley wasn’t buying that.

“I think it will be difficult to establish any type of point system that had any connection to the rest of the world of golf because they’re basically – not totally, but for the most part – a closed shop,” Ridley said. “There is some relegation, but not very much.

“But I don’t think that prevents us from giving subjective consideration based on talent, based on performance to those players.”

That’s what led Augusta National to offer an invitation to Niemann. The club did not cite anything he did on LIV – the Chilean has two LIV wins this year – but his willingness to travel outside LIV and win the Australian Open, along with a top finish in the Australian PGA.

Talor Gooch did not get an invitation. He won three LIV events last year and later suggested Rory McIlroy would have an asterisk next to his name if he won the Masters because all the best aren’t there.

Gooch is unlikely to be missed, not with Scottie Scheffler going for a second green jacket, with McIlroy chasing the career Grand Slam, Tiger Woods playing for only the second time this year and a host of others from all tours chasing one of golf’s most prized possessions.

And then the PGA Tour will head to Hilton Head and LIV Golf will make its way to Australia, and they all have to wait until the next major May 16-19 at the PGA Championship.

“There’s a lot of people a lot smarter than me that could figure this out in a much more efficient way,” Jon Rahm said. “But the obvious answer is that there’s got to be a way for certain players in whatever tour to be able to earn their way in. That’s the only thing can I say. I don’t know what that looks like. But there’s got to be a fair way for everybody to compete.”
