1 hour guided ride – your experienced, trained guide will navigate your group through the waterways of southport to the south end of caswell beach, bald head island, battery island and southport. this one-hour ride is approximately 25 miles roundtrip, allowing you to explore the area and have a blast while riding your jet ski . $149 per ski, 90 minutes guided sandbar  adventure – we’ve had a lot of requests for this one. follow your guide &  head to sandbars or lockwood folly inlet for about 30 minutes of exploring time. our guides will take you to these barrier islands to hunt for sharks’ teeth and beautiful shells. you never know what wildlife you may come across so keep your eyes peeled $175 per ski, 2 hour guided ride – let our local guides show you around the best parts of the cape fear region via the intracoastal waterway. we head south to holden beach passing through lockwood folly and  back for a total of 45-55 miles round trip  we can stop on a barrier island for a swim break and explore for native wildlife, shells and sometimes if you’re lucky even sharks’ teeth our guides will make sure you make memories to last a lifetime $199 per ski.

Hey Folks! It’s Captain Ted. I’m an Appalachian State and UNCW (MBA) graduate and I’ve been around the Cape Fear Region my entire life. I am a USCG Master Licensed Captain with more than 20 years of experience on boats up to 90 feet. My best memories are out on the water with my mom and dad, and want to give that experience to others. I'm excited to have you on board!

What a wonderful day out on the boat with Captain Jim of H2O tours! We even got to see dolphins! We have been to Holden Beach for many years and this is our first boat tour. We will def be back next year for another one! A new tradition to our family vacation. Thank you Captain Jim and H2O yours!

Our family had a great experience with H2O tours. Captain Inman did an outstanding job on our boat excursion. He was both entertaining and captivating job as he explained the various sites on the tour in a manner which was interesting and relatable to our children. I highly recommend H2O tours and will do another tour with them when we visit OIB next year!

Super midweek trip when slightly rainy outside. We had a good time and learned a little about the intercostal waterway. We saw herrings, egrets, pelicans and osprey all around the route and explored between Holden and sunset beaches. We even took a walk to the mailbox on Holden beach. Well done Tour H2O!

Best day ever. This was a perfect midweek morning trip for our family. Captain Don was the absolute best. The boat ride was relaxing and very comfortable. We even caught a baby shark. This was the highlight of the week for my nine year old. We could not have asked for a better experience. If you’re looking for something fun and relaxed, the fishing trip for kids is the way to go!!

What a fabulous family time. We took a sunset tour that ended with rain and a thunderstorm but Captain Jim could not have been any nicer. During our trip we got to visit places we have never seen before even though we have been coming to OIB for 30+ years. Very knowledgeable captain and fun. I don't think anyone booking this tour will be disappointed. Our family made some great memories!

The boat had a cover to keep the sun off us. The captain would give us info on all the islands and stuff that we would pass. Best $20 you can spend.

We took out of town visitors on the cruise looking for a cool way to get some relief from the heat. It was wonderful! We learned a lot about the history and wildlife, we even got to see some dolphins. Really a fun way to learn about the area. Highly recommend.

We did this tour to pass some time before walking over to Provision for an early dinner. It was fun and informative, and there were even passing dolphins in the vicinity that were visible from the boat. We enjoyed it.

Carolina Beach Shelling Guide

Whether you hit the sand close to home, or plan an extensive shelling expedition to one of the outlying island destinations, shelling can be an incredible Carolina Beach adventure that certainly pays off. Easy to enjoy in your own backyard or via a boat trip to an isolated shoreline, visitors who adore beachcombing will find themselves right at home at this coastal destination that has miles of beaches to explore.

OIB Sunset Cruise

• 2 Hours: $300, Start Time Varies Seasonally

• Same Price for 1-4 Participants (1 set fee to charter the boat, not priced per person)

We offer our Sunset Cruises from June 1st through August 31st. Captain Harvey will meet you 90 minutes before sunset (time varies seasonally) at the public boat ramp below the Ocean Isle Beach Bridge at 65 Causeway Drive, Ocean Isle Beach, NC. If you're staying in Sunset Beach or Holden Beach then we can pick you up at a boat ramp in the beach town that you're staying in.

After we meet, we will begin cruising the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), the Shallotte River, Little River, Calabash River, and any of several smaller saltwater creeks, backwaters, and saltwater marshes. These are some of the most scenic areas along the Carolina coast and you'll possibly see Dolphins, wading birds, and many species of wildlife that you don't normally have a chance to see from the shore. Shortly before sunset, we'll find a great vantage point for enjoying the sunset.

A private restroom is available on our boat. There are also public restrooms available during your Sunset Cruise, as we do have several marinas and parks along the ICW that have public facilities.

The following items are recommended to be brought along: Camera or camera phone, packable rain jacket, snacks, drinks.

This trip is limited to 4 participants (all at one price, as you're chartering the boat, not per person).

This trip is all inclusive with no hidden fees. While tips are not required, they are appreciated.

Pontoon Tours

Enjoy the luxury and comfort of our 22-24 foot Tritoon pontoon boats powered by smooth,

quiet and reliable Yamaha 4-stroke outboards.

Each boat is captained by a US Coast Guard Licensed Captain.

Our most popular tours are the three hour Nature tour or three hour Sunset Tour.

Three hours gives us the best chance of finding dolphins  and exploring this beautiful area.

Most of our Pontoon Tours start with a two hour minimum for $280.

Each additional hour is $110. The price includes up to six people on one boat, but we 

have five boats,  so bring your friends and family. Six passengers includes kids. 

It's a  US Coast Guard rule, not ours.

And be sure to bring food and drinks if you'd like.  Coolers and dogs are always welcome!

Nature Tour

Sunset Tour

Take a scenic and even romantic cruise along the ICW or maybe even along the beach as the sun sets and shows us some of the prettiest views   in the world. Coast Guard rule, six passengers maximum per boat. We have five boats to be able to serve 30 total.  

Sunset Tours are a minimum of three hours at $390/boat and our start time varies with the time of year.

Our usual pick-up locations for all tours is either the TourH2O dock in Holden Beach,  Sharky's Restaurant in Ocean Isle Beach or Southport Marina. You may call/text Captain Jim to make different pick-up arrangements. 

Explore the Islands

Want to see another island? Take a scenic trip and stay off the roads and out of traffic. With room for as​ many as six passengers travelling in comfort, This is the way to ride. Coast Guard rule, six passengers maximum per boat.  We have five boats to be able to serve 30 total.

Three hours is our most popular tour and

gives us the best chance of

finding dolphins and other beautiful wildlife.

Family Fishing Trip

Take the family out on one of our spacious pontoons for a memorable fishing trip in the ICW or one of the local rivers. We'll fish around some structures and catch anything that's biting. We'll provide the bait, tackle, license and fishing rods. You provide the excitement!

Our most beautiful tour.  Catch the beauty of the coast at sunset and twilight as we venture to Bird Island to see the Sunset.  This is our personal favorite as it's relaxing and absolutely beautiful even on cloudy days.  We leave 1 hour before Sunset.

Our 24 ft Sailfish has space for everything, with cockpit and bow cold storage, hard-top and rear canvas added for plenty of shade, and underwater lighting for those sunset cruises. 

We have comfortable seating for 6 passengers. The Sailfish offers 360 degree visibility from any seating location to ensure you don't miss a thing!

Jim Shinn is a retired 27 year USCG veteran and a Licensed USCG Captain.  Jim and Katrina are longtime residents of Eastern North Carolina and Virginia, with over 30 years of boating experience. Knowing the area, they both fell in love with Southport and made it their home.  We want people to experience all that Southport has to offer.  On our Cape Fear Cruise, sit back, relax and enjoy incredible sights of our beautiful coastal area.  Water views of Bald Head Island, Oak Island, Southport and the Intracoastal  Waterway.  Don't forget your cameras as photo opportunities will present themselves and you don't want to miss it....egrets, herons, seagulls and an array of wildlife up close and personal.  It's always a great day when you encounter the dolphins at play.  Please feel free to share your photos on our Facebook page - we love to share the fun!  We also offer our Sunset Cruise where you can witness panoramic views of the most spectacular sunsets.

Welcome to mungo fishing charters.

Hi, my name is Capt. Tommy Mungo, I was born and raised in Wilmington, NC, and am a 5th generation fisherman. I started learning the areas and fishing 30 years ago from my great grandfather, and grandfather. I am a USCG licensed captain, fully insured, and I strive to give you the best in-shore, near-shore experience, along with having a great time, and making new friends on the water.

Winter fishing? Yes! We fish year round. Please contact us for pricing, and to check the fishing conditions.

Fishing Charters

1-3 anglers (rates for 3 anglers).

½ Day – $400 – 4.5 hrs ¾ Day – $500 – 6.5 hrs Full Day – $600 – 8.5 hrs * Add Additional Anglers $50 per additional person

Sunset Boat Cruise

Minimum of 2 hours.

2 Hour Trip $200 For 4 people Add $50 per additional person Cruise Intercoastal Waterway. Catch a sunset over the islands.

Family Fun Island Day

6 hour trip.

1-4 people – $550 Take the kids to a sandy beach for swimming, fishing, clamming and check out oyster farm or cast a net to catch bait, pick up shells, check a few crab traps, and boat riding.

Capt. Tommy is the drum whisperer! He put us right on the fish and kept everyone set with freshly baited lines. If you are experienced with inshore fishing, Tommy has plenty of new tips and tricks to share. We had a few novices on the boat and he had them up and landing keepers in no time. Never had a charter captain clean and fillet the catch any better. Can’t wait to go out with him again!

Captain Tommy was the absolute best. We were lucky enough to fish two days in a row with him and both days he put us right on the fish. Though there are many reasons to love vacationing in Holden Beach every year, we know from experience that one popular question from our guests is all about that VIEW ! Everyone loves the beautiful panoramics of the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway from our Holden Beach NC vacation rentals . But without a doubt, the most loved views of everyone’s week usually include sunrises and sunsets.

Because Holden Beach is a south-facing island, it is easy for us to catch the glory of the airbrushed skies early in the morning or at the end of the day. You really can enjoy both the sunrise and sunset from almost anywhere on our island, but today we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite spots. We know you will love them as much as we do!

Though the views are amazing throughout the year, for some reason autumn sunsets here are extraordinarily breathtaking. We aren’t sure exactly why, but they are just simply amazing. Fall is a great time to visit the beach anyway, with a slower pace and cooler temperatures. Pair those features with the beauty of colorful skies, and you might have to start a new fall vacation tradition!

The Holden Beach Bridge

You know that feeling of excitement you get as you start to drive over the Holden Beach Bridge on your way to check into your vacation rental? As you see the bird’s-eye views of the island and waters surrounding it, you can’t wait to start your week of paradise. That feeling is even more spectacular when you drive over the bridge during sunset – especially when someone else is driving so you can gape and gaze!

Walks on the Beach

Walks on the beach offer great ocean views anytime, but sunrise and sunset strolls are a must. If you venture out to the east or west end of the island, you can catch even more expansive views. The east end is accessible via public beach access, and though the west end is private, you can get to it via the beach from the last public access if you’re up for a long walk. While you’re enjoying the views, why not a bit of beachcombing for treasures from the sea?

Everyone has to eat dinner, so why not take advantage of the sunset views available from the waterfront decks of many of our local Holden Beach restaurants ? During these times, outdoor dining is the first choice of many anyway – so couple that safety with beautiful views, and you can’t beat it!

From the Holden Beach Fishing Pier

Note: the pier is currently closed..

The Holden Beach Fishing Pier offers a variety of entertainment for the fishermen on the island. Get out to the pier for an “early bird gets the worm” fishing moment, and in this case, the early bird also gets the view! Walking out to the end of the pier gives you a unique opportunity to be as close to the horizon as possible to count the colors of the morning sky. 

UPDATE: Summer 2023 -  The pier and adjacent buildings remain closed until further notice. The parking lot and beach access on the east side of the pier will remain open and are free for public use at this time. Food truck vendors at the lot may be available during the summer season and paid lot parking may be implemented in the future. Plans to bring new life to the Holden Beach Fishing Pier are moving forward, making those sunset & sunrise views even better!
