When we booked this hotel we saw that it was nice but we weren't expecting to be blown away like we were when we saw the actual place. Every singe step of this place is visually stunning. This is a true 5-star place. The pool is beautiful and comfortable for staying in for hours at a time. The breakfast spread is one of the finest I've ever seen. The restaurants are pricey as is the spa (very pricey) so you may want to go into town for those (and plan to pay 100 baht round-trip per person for that.) And while the Internet connection was fast (compared to most other hotels in Thailand I've experienced), they are stingy in giving you only 30 minutes a day access in your room unless you want to pay 240 baht per hour (always free in the lobby and air-conditioned library). Why is it that the low-cost hotels give you Internet for free but the pricey hotels charge? Regardless, this place is excellent.

Best gym I have seen in a Thai hotel . Overall a very positive experience staying in this hotel I even booked a extra night as I am travelling around Thailand and am on a schedule but have stayed the extra night as such a good hotel . Staff in reception are good and speak good English . If you come by car there is a indoor car park behind the hotel drive into there up to L2 or L3 and there is a entrance into the hotel which takes you straight to reception I never knew this I just hit it lucky . Then when you go out get reception to stamp your parking ticket then you don’t have to pay for the car park. I paid a little extra than I usually like to pay to stay in a hotel in Thailand but is worth the extra

This was our favorite hotel in Thailand. We loved everything about it. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They went out of there way to make us comfortable. They offer reasonable rates for local transportation and arrange everything upon your request. Everything was hassle-free. The food is literally some of the best food we have ever had. They restaurants offer a variety of options and the buffet selection changes daily. The chef was one of the friendliest people I have ever dealt with in the restaurant. He offered on numerous occasions if we can think of anything else we wanted that was not on the buffet and said he would make it specifically for us. We never took him up on the offer because everything was so amazing and the selection was enormous. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. My only regret for this trip we took to Thailand was not spending more nights at Centara Grand Beach Resort in Karon. The hotel nightly stay was super affordable compared to any other destinations I have been too and you get so much along with just a great place to sleep. The hot tub on the balcony was awesome also. Don't even consider any other hotels. You will not regret your stay at this hotel!!!

Reception is open 24hours, so if you need to book a Taxi, Check in late or need anything else, they're super friendly and help you anytime. Keep in mind you need to ask for hairdryer at the reception if you need one. : ) I can recommend this hotel to couples, friends and solo travellers if you want some new modern and clean hotel. It's not the cheapest, but it's brand new without any flaws. It's the perfect hotel after a long flight from another country for the first nights in Thailand. : )

Beach is not very good by itself but the view is terrific (one of the best you can have in South Thailand) with many small and beautiful islands close by. Hotel restaurant is directly at the beach and does not only offer great views but also delicious food. Rooms are big and modern (no English TV but who cares). Staff is very friendly and takes good care of the place. Perfect during low season Things to consider before booking: This is is a quiet beach. There are no shops and no bars or restaurants outside the hotels and there is definitely no nightlife. There is a road directly behind the hotel but we didn’t hear much because it is not a busy road. There are a few hotels at the beach but in off-season this is not a main issue. They are constructing another another big hotel at the other end at the of the beach

So very attentive, but not overbearing; friendly, helpful and happy people. Our room was perfect for an intimate couples retreat. Romance started with a claw foot tub in the front center of the room, which was splendid. A very comfortable balcony for relaxing and taking in the city river and sounds. The bed was the Most comfortable in all of our 2 weeks of traveling throughout Thailand. We slept so well, which really helped with all the adventures we signed up for. M, and yes that is his name or at least is his non-Thai name, is a server in the Ping restaurant & for hotel room service. He is absolutely amazing! He exudes such joy and light. He literally made me smile every time I saw him and brought such positive energy. I can’t express how much of a blessing and value add he is for Sala Lanna. Overall, this hotel is splendid and a very special place to stay for days. I recommend Sala Lanna for couples, family, and those seeking a peaceful place with incredibly positive energy. It will be a highlight in your travels for sure.

The villa is simple (don't expect it like a 5-star hotel), and located just right beside the beach, you can watch the beautiful sunset (like the display photo) beside the pool. Eating breakfast beside the pool, enjoy the wind blows (beware the strong winds might blow all the tissue papers away). The breakfast is excellent, and huge amount for me. Their staffs are friendly and guided us well. Even they don't speak fluent English, but their smiley faces made you felt warm. The hotel provided their own shower gels, shampoo and conditioner, which is all in lemon grass series. For a lemon grass lover like me, you can really smell that everywhere. The only bathtub i felt, it shall included the anti-slip texture, to avoid any slippery.

Since he was named the Dusit Resort and Polo Club, but never absent from your stay here. Because hotels are starting to feel old. (Old time, just like those big hotels that have a historic hotel several other hotels) is true that it remains clean environment, good service, but things started to go a little old. However. At this hotel, it gradually renovate parts of the hotel and so on. A guest room at this time, it just seems impossible to renovate for left ฿ N d is the condition that the new hotel should not be an old hotel again. Grande Centre Point Hotel Ratchadamri

This was a great find, and will become my first choice hotel in Bangkok. Typical of most 5 star hotels in Thailand, this would be rated higher than 5 stars anywhere else in the world. The rooms are spacious, well decorated and practical. The service excellent. The location is perfect - right in the centre of town.

Staying in a skyscraper overlooking Bangkok is unique, especially after staying in all kinds of other accommodations throughout Thailand, from cheap guest houses to 5 star, world class hotels, over the last 20 years. The rooms are not particularly large, but the view makes up for that. Did I mention the service is top notch? All staff are pleasant, polite, and very helpful and accomodating! The food served throughout the hotel is also top notch. Sure, there are many tourists from all over the world who want to stay in the tallest hotel in Thailand (and probably in the top 10 of all Asia in terms of height) but if you haven't tried it yet, give them a shot. A memorable experience!

All in all, surprisingly good value - for the price I was expecting much less, but it was on par with other 4-star hotels I've stayed in, and in Thailand it has the reputation of being one of the best serviced apartments known for quality. I liked the fact that it is a hotel made for practical business travelers (as well as for tourists) - there's one restaurant there (Blue Spice) with unabashedly Thai menu with lots of Foreign alternatives, good quality food at reasonable prices. For business though, there's no posh restaurant for entertaining, this is probably best arranged elsewhere. The reception area has amazingly high ceilings, and so it's a little stuffy as i think the air conditioning wasn't strong enough to cool the large space, but in the rooms the a/c is perfectly fine. I was concerned that a serviced apartment meant there would be no concierge to translate where I needed to go for the taxis for business meetings, but this went far smoother than the other hotels I've been in, and taxis arrived fairly quickly since the hotel accesses the main roads easily. Will certainly stay there again, and recommended it to local Thai friends with people coming to stay!

First of all, this hotel is very luxury at a budget price. Most budget hotels in Thailand have outdated furnishings and wall hangings, but every inch of this hotel is clean, well-maintained, very luxury looking. The staff is outstanding and there is a doorman or other staff about every 20 meters of the hotel. Check-in and check-out was fast, and we even got fast service when we needed an extra room card. I mention this because I read many horror story reviews on here before we booked the place. I only saw crowds in the reception area when a bus came in (which there were many - its one of the biggest hotels in Bangkok). The breakfast was outstanding. You can eat in the cafe, which has outdoor dining, or the upstairs restaurant. Both have the same food, so it depends if want a city view with your breakfast, or some fresh morning air. The Thai restaurant at the top of the hotel wasn't very impressive. The food was bland and overpriced. We live in Northeast Thailand, so maybe we are spoiled. The best part of the hotel was the room. We stayed in a 3-bedroom suite, which was a mini-apartment. It actually looks like the hotel bought a condo building next door and turned the condos into rooms. The beds were comfortable, everything was clean and new, and there was lots of space. We actually only needed 2-bedrooms, but the upgrade price was so cheap we went with 3-bedrooms. The suites have their own lobby, elevators, and secured parking. If you want to go shopping, which was the primary reason we stayed at this hotel (the kids needed clothes for school), there is a 6-floor fashion mall below the hotel. Its the place to get good, low priced clothes (6th floor has a food court). If you want to save even more money, get up at 3am and walk outside. From 3-6am, the streets around the hotel hold the largest clothes wholesale market in SE Asia. Hundreds of sellers line the streets selling every kind of clothes you can think of. We saved 70% on school clothes this year.

Bangkok is one of the best but in terms of pool their location in Pattaya with an amazing view of the sea, the beach and its skyline is truly an amazing experience. We are lucky to have a sunny day with crystal clear blue skies so we got a fascinating view. The rooftop pool has upper and lower deck located on the 25th flloor. Each pool has its own unique features. The upper deck has amazing view and a mythical dragon with fountain, the water here is also not too cold. The lower deck has jacuzzi and a waterfalls in its pool. Both pools have bars, dining area and showers. The rooms are spacious, beautiful & comfortable bed and sofa, rainfall shower head, nice TV channels selection, safety lock, refreshing Malin Goetz toiletries,, small balcony with amazing view of Pattaya, free wifi, free bottled water, friendly staff & free postal card to mail from Pattaya and most of located centrally near Famous malls and attractions.

My family of 6 adults and a 3-year old toddler had the best 3 nights in Bangkok, all thanks to Glow Pratunam Hotel. Everything was excellent and we enjoy it very much despite being in the middle of Bangkok Shutdown and protest. We've booked two rooms - our request for connecting room was fulfilled. Drop an email right after booking and their reply came right after it. Fast and effective service. Twin Deluxe and King Deluxe together. The room is spacious even with 2 extra beds! Room is clean with comfortable beds. Bathroom also roomy and spotless. PROS - Location! Very near to the Platinum Fashion Mall and Pratunam Market. Also, seven floors below the hotel is a shopping haven with reasonable and cheap bargains, the Shibuya 19. - There's two 7-11 nearby and a family mart (closed when we were there, maybe due to shutdown) - Bathrobes and slippers provided. The carpet-less floor is quite chilly especially when you woke up in the morning. - Iron and ironing board is also available upon request and was sent to our room few minutes after the call to housekeeping. - Daily complimentary bottled water according to number of occupants. - Bathroom amenities includes toothbrush & toothpaste, cotton buds and other usual items such as shower foam, shampoo and hand wash (smells nice too). - Staff are always pleasant and very generous with smiles. - Muslim Traveller: Food is not an issue, there are 3 halal stalls (Indian, Middle East & Thai cuisine) located at Shibuya 19 Food Court, level 6. Along the road, there are also several halal Indian restaurants available. There also 2 more halal stalls at Platinum Food Mall. CONS - Quite far to BTS station. Around 10 min walk. But easy to hail a cab in front of the hotel and the cab (metre) fare is cheap too. - The hotel lobby is at level 7, so you need to take a lift from Shibuya 19 and another lift to your room. No comment on breakfast as we did not opt for it.

we stayed at pimalai for two nights along with another couple of similar age. both myself and my partner are barristers. we had travelled over from ko phi phi in a longtail boat and were exhausted. we hadn't notified the hotel of our arrival time but as soon as we arrived on the jetty the staff rushed down to help us, floral garlands around the neck before being whisked up to the first level reception area...the second we looked out at the breathtaking view, we knew nothing about this hotel would dissapoint. it didn't. refreshing drinks arrived whilst we checked in...in the lounge area. we had booked deluxe rooms, but out of curiosity asked to see the pool villas. the lower part of the resort appears to house all of the deluxe rooms and the upper part of the resort, seperated by a road, houses all of the villas. not a problem because the golf carts whizz you around the place in a jiffy. we ended up upgrading to a pool villa after negotiating a much reduced price than you will normally see on even this website. if you are travelling in a lesser busy period i would advise doing this. the villa was stunning. i can't say more than that...words would not do it justice. this is still an expensive place for even your well earning couples, but it is worth it. we hired mopeds to travel the entire island and there was not a nicer location. you must visit same same but different, an outdoor restaurant 5 minutes away and the restaurants just along the beach in the cove are about ten minutes walk. the food is top quality and cost approx £10 per person for 3 courses and all drinks. other than breakfast at the hotel, which was wonderful at the seven seas restaurant, we did not eat there. the menu looked good but was expensive. by this point in our trip we wanted to experience a more 'authentic' thai meal. we were not dissapointed in any of the places we ate at. apart from that the hotel is the best on the island and best we experienced in thailand.

The Chatrium was a real 5 star experience with probably the largest pool I have encountered in a hotel in Thailand with an additional childrens pool on the 6th floor overlooking the river. The room itself was quite large with all amenities including a kitchen.Although the room is starting to show its age a little, the balcony and the view of Bangkok and the river was to die for, simply breathtaking! From the moment we arrived until check out we were simply treated as royalty, even going to breakfast in which the buffet was exceptional. I have stayed in a few 5 star hotels in Thailand and this hotel was excellent although a little off the beaten path in between Silom and Asiatique, they had a shuttle boat every 15 minutes until midnite providing a free trip to the nearest BTS Sky Train Saphan Taksin and we just loved the 5 minute journey every time. The security called a metered taxi whenever we needed and staying in the Chatrium we actually felt like we were on a holiday! Asiatique is just a 15 minute walk down the road or a 40 baht($1.35) taxi ride, a great experience, like an upscale night bazaar with many restaurants. There is a free shuttle boat from the BTS. All in all I cant fault this hotel, the pool, gym, fast internet, the most comfortable bed Ive ever slept in and the ticks just go on and on, 10 out of 10 experience for the early booking and half price I got!

I choose bangkok for my birthday trip destination just to have an experience the life style, the vibe and shopping since this is my first time to bangkok. I went there with my best friend. I reached Akara hotel very early around 12 in the afternoon and is too early for check in. However the staffs are very friendly and polite, he ask us to have a seat and he took our passport to assist on the check in process. Another staff serve us the welcome drink. The process went smoothly and im not waited for so long at the lobby. A gentleman (staff) bring us to our room and i was shocked and touched with the birthday decoration. Special thanks to my bestie and the hotel team to surprise me with the memorable experience... before he left the room,he’s invited us to have a complimentary high tea at level 2 and did mention “treat this please like your 2nd home” Few minutes later, another staff (Moni)knock the door to inform us that the food is ready, we can come down for the high tea and wishing us for a pleasant stay. We went down about an hour later, while choosing the food, A staff by the name “Moni” he was so friendly and very polite, checking with the team to ensure that i wont take the food that contain pork since im wearing hijab. They are very helpful. Overall, The ambience, the smell of the hotel, the hotel interior, the staffs, the room that i stay, the excellent service make me feel like im stay in 7 stars hotel. I truly recommended this place for the excellent service and worth for money. I will definitely comeback for their service. Thats for sure. 😉. Give them ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Iza-SG

My SIM card allows data only so I am unable to call, I had ask a few locals and one of them finally helped to call the staff to open for me. I was quite flustered by then, and the staff came down all sleepy-faced. He sorted out the paperwork and made me sit there a few minutes in silence while he counted a stack of money. The staff then brought me to my dormitory, showed me the bed and was very kind to check that everything is okay for me before he left. The next morning I checked out and the same guy wanted to check my booking ID and he got all confused because he was comparing my booking ID with the property ID, and the numbers obviously don't match. The whole process took a frustrating 20 minutes, and I finally pointed it out to him how to check the bookings correctly. There are cheaper and better hostels elsewhere.

we booked for one night on arrival into phuket based upon leaving by bus again the following day. check in was simple - just hand in your agoda voucher and you get your key. we are familiar with thailand so didn't require much interaction with the reception staff though they had smiles enough as we passed by! the hotel exceeded our expectations - it was clean and comfortable and the bed was comfy, which was perfect after a long flight! we stayed on the 2nd floor at the front and were not bothered at all by road noise - our balcony even allowed us to enjoy the balmy evening and watch the street activities. it is ideally located only a couple of minutes walk from the bus station where there are also plenty of food stalls in the morning and daytime, plus at night right outside there is a place to eat the dishes up great noodle soup! there are night markets are about two blocks away, with further morning and night markets another block on - an easy walk, less than 10 minutes. we stayed at another guest house on the way back through phuket as it was already booked, but would have been very happy to stay at lub sbuy again. it is a completely suitable choice for a day or two's stay in phuket though it is not a town we would spend much time in as for us it is a transit point.

I have to say the staff and the owner is ridiculously friendly! Nick is a very nice and cool host. He can even give you tour deals that are insanely cheap. The staff are also friendly. In fact the friendliest among all I have encountered. The room is huge and can accomodate 10 people easily. It's clean and economical for budget travellers and the like. I don't get why people still give them a negative feedback. If you expect posh treatment, there's 5 star hotels all over the place but if you want simple and honest to goodness treatment, this is the place for you. Sa mga kababayan kong nagbabalak magbakasyon ng Phuket, dito na kayo. Ask for Sheena, Pinay po syang employee dun and aalagan kayo nun. Lahat pde nyang ituro sa inyo galing sa murang pagkain to cheap tours. Dont be disappointed about how the facade of the building looks like. Once you see the room, I bet my top dollar you will also react the way I did. It's value at it's best. Good bless and Good luck to you Nick and Sheena! I hope I can make my way back to that lovely place and definitely I will stay there again! Mabuhay!

The pool table is in great shape, along with the huge refrigerator you can use to keep your drinks cold. The owners keep coffee and snacks out all day. The rooms are great, with a capsule design you get a lot of privacy yet can still socialize with others if you'd like. Hands down the best part of this hostel however, is the owners. Michael and Nok are incredibly hospitable and went out of their way multiple times to help organize transportation and activities for myself and other travelers. They made my time in Chiang Mai very fun and stress free and I will definitely be back next time I'm in Chiang Mai!

Very very good value for the price! Great location best host we had in Thailand and the cutest cat around. Nice and big room, we liked it so much, thank you :)

Each room has a good aircon and the bottom bunks have little certainly to give you some privacy. The beds are quite hard, but that's normal in Thailand. Whenever you have a question, the staff is very friendly and helps you in every way they can. The hostel is located outside of the main "square", which is the city, but within 5 minutes of walking, you're in the center and only 500 meters away is a market every evening with cheap and delicious food.

She gives great rates on all tours when booked through her, this month she was also offering a free night and breakfast with a tour booking! I was able to check in early and due to the promotion, extend my stay for 3 days at very little cost. Good a/c in the rooms and nice common area with a fridge. Location is great, short walk to the south gate food markets every night where you can eat for under $3US a day! And the Saturday walking markets go right down the street in front of the hostel! Will absolutely stay here again!!

Why other hostels don’t provide this?), personal socket, personal lightning) • 2 different common areas – one for drinking and having party, another one for chilling and spending time with laptop (very cozy) • Despite it’s a party hostel you can easily sleep without earplugs • Cleanliness in rooms and showers • Really cool staff – friendly and helping and they will drink and dance with you ) By the way all guys are handsome, you can’t decide whom you like most  My vote goes for Benny  • Free breakfast (as for me – descent enough, cereals with milk, toast, butter, jam) + FREE BBQ in the evening (descent as well) • Nice people around – made heaps of new friends. • Definetely has its own atmosphere Cons • Distance to the beach, it's about 15 – 20 min walk • If you don’t like party at all, probably, it’s not for you. As I’ve mentioned it easy to sleep, but you just won’t like the atmosphere itself • Not really a minus but it would be great to have in addition mirror in the room and hook near the bed for hanging on bath stuff, towel and all like that. Stayed for 5 nights – longer than ever. Advice: ask for a side bed, you will have huge window facing the forest instead of ordinary wall. Island awesomness tour is good.

The STAFF is amazing, they gave me a ride into town my last day , i had to wake them up by knocking on their door at 6 am ish but they were so kind and service was great. Recommendations would be, investing in A/C for the pricier rooms, it’s not always cold in Pai specially this season. And also breakfast would be nice. Other than that, i would def stay and recommend! It’s a bit far from town, like 15-20 m walk, but you’ll rent a scooter either in town or in the hotel). Thank you guys!!

Another plus is free dinner on Saturdays. Location of the hostel is good as it is near to bus stop, Ratchaprarop Sky train and Pratunam market. Moreover, this hostel has a chart with bus numbers and routes to help us navigate Bangkok easily. Wi-Fi is super fast. There is separate Wi-Fi on each floor too. Common area is cool and cozy to hangout with fellow travelers. Hostel is fairly clean. Not only they clean rooms daily, they clean common area, kitchen and stairs very well too. Most amazing part of the stay is the staff and mix of travelers you meet during the stay. Neil and Jric at reception are best at their job and always helpful. They make your stay comfortable and memorable. I look forward to stay there soon.

There is a lingering smell of sewage, the rooms are tiny with 12 people crammed in, we booked an aircon room and were put into a fan room. I don't want to sound like a snob I've stayed in fan rooms before but there was 0 circulation in the room, it was an absolute sweat box!!! This is the least comfort I have ever felt. If you can avoid this, I strongly suggest doing so, it got so bad in there I ended up sleeping on the floor a couple of floors down!!! for the SAME PRICE I would suggest staying in another hostel.

Being that this was my first time staying in guesthouse with shared accommodations, I was initially worried about the usual things that most worry about when sharing a room and amenities with strangers; two of the biggest things being cleanliness and ability to get along with those assigned to the room. All of my worries were quickly put to rest. The facilities at 168 Chiang Mai Guesthouse were extremely clean. The washroom and common areas were continuously looked after. The layout of their laundry facility was also well thought out. Located on their rooftop, plenty of line was provided for guests to dry their clothes on. The guesthouse also had a policy of no shoes or sandals past the entrance which made for clean floors. The couple who owns this guesthouse were always happy to help, even during the awkward late hours. I had gotten myself into a couple of situations where I needed assistance in the middle of the night, so I gave them a call and surprisingly not only did they pick up the phone, they also helped with a very positive attitude. For this I was most grateful. Located in the northwest boundary of the Old City, I found the location convenient as there are many transportation options and a couple of 24 hour variety stores only footsteps away. Their internet connection was the fastest and most reliable compared to all of the other places I have stayed in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. I've stayed in about 10 different places during this trip including 6 hotels were are rated between 3-4 stars. If there are any downsides to this place, I would say the lack of a common area for guest to hangout in. This makes it a little to meet new people (if this is a goal) or just to even lounge in if you don't really want to go out and explore. The sterile ambiance may also be a negative to some. If you are looking for a place that has character when it comes to interior design, this place ain't it. But this approach is what makes their facilities extremely clean.

After 9pm, you will have your own set of keys for the two doors before you get into the place. Definitely recommended!!!!! Cheers!🤗🤗🤗

When I booked, I thought the hostel was in Chiang Rai, instead of Chiang Khong... But it's my fault for not checking the map and the address. But as I was planning on going there the next day, it wasn't a problem. The owner is a very nice person. The beds are comfy, there's three toilets/showers for the dorm. Everything was very clean. I didn't go to the bar but it looked like a nice little place. So definitely a good cheap option if you're on your way to cross the Lao border!

Due to the dedicated helpfulness of the staff everything from the moment our scheduled transportation picked us from the airport everything ran so smoothly. We were blown away by the level of hospitality and friendliness of your staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our sea view rooms, the style and layout was just lovely. The staff made it so easy to book tours and excursions and make very helpful suggestions of things to do. The location is the best I’ve ever stayed at in Krabi, and being a little off the main road lead to a very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast service was quite possibly the best I’ve ever had, in all my travels. The kitchen staff worked so seamlessly for each guests to have a perfect way to start their day. Every lounge chair by the pool, every restroom, every dish was spotless. The staff’s attention to detail and cleanliness is unrivaled by most other hotels I’ve stayed at.

Moreover, you can use the pool at roof terrace 9am to 10pm, of course freely! The TV programs were as many as 150, and I could watch NHK world! The only trouble was the door. On first day, I couldn't go out from the room. I had to call to front to repair it. And almost everyday the card key didn't work so I had to go to front to change some data on it. Anyway, all of the employees were good so if I go to Thailand again, I want to stay this hotel again.

Excellent hotel, we stayed at four hotels in Thailand this time, and this one is the best one. It's even better than another 5 stars hotel!

When i first booked the hotel online I read other peoples pros and cons about the hotel. Some people rated quite bad for a 4 star hotel, so I thought to myself "hmmm" is it really THAT bad? But I mean, you really never know until you see it with your own eyes. So I decided to go ahead and see it for myself and it wasn't bad at all!! The room was big and clean and service was great, people were friendly and helpful. And best of all, all the good shopping malls are nearby, what more can you ask for? You get a lot of exercise from walking malls to malls and eat good food and also save a lot of taxi money. I would definitely go back to this hotel again next time for my next visit to Thailand.

A regular visitor to Thailand I stayed in the excellent Ambassador Hotel on Soi 11off Sukhumvit this time. I say excellent because the standard is exactly how a €40+ per night 4 star in Bangkok should be.The Ambassador is a big property with many amenities. The reception area is huge and the staff are friendly and efficient. My luggage was taken from the Taxi and appeared in my room within minutes of me entering my room. The initial impression you get when you walk in to the reception area is 5 star but the rooms put it firmly back in the second division. They are not bad but quite basic. Everything works and at this price you can't ask for more. The WiFi is free and strong but does require constant re-entering of passwords which is annoying at first but you get used to it. Room cleaning is efficient and flexible. Long low timber ceiling corridors give it a kind of old cruise liner feel. Restaurants, Bars, Massage studio, Gym, Tailoring shops, health spa and several coffee shops are among it's many features. And of course that great location close to everything. Some of the best restaurants in Bangkok are here. The very expensive but superb El Gaucho Steakhouse, one of 2 in the area, is right next door. For Mexican try the Coyote across the road. And round the corner the Firehouse serves the best burgers in Bangkok. An Aussie Bar also across the road serves up the traditional full breakfast. I would recommend the Ambassador as a budget hotel without hesitation.

Wherever you were on the hotel grounds everyone said hello or opened a door for you. It really made my stay there something else. Thank you Kacha for a wonderful holiday.

We arrived at around 2 am and that was not a problem. Although we had seen photos online, we were still pleasantly surprised at how clean and spacious our rooms were. Because they are serviced apartments, they have small kitchens and a dining table. Everything was nice. We have been in a lot of hotels in Thailand and would rate this place as one of the best values. The location is one block from the famous Shangri-La Hotel that offers excellent dining options. CentrePoint Silom is not quite a 5 star, but I would give it 4 stars and emphasize the value. Saphan Taksin skytrain station and water taxis are a block away, so you are 20 minutes away from the Siam shopping mall district. A Robinson department store and supermarket is actually connected to the building. KFC & Macdonalds on the street if your kids need it. You can bring food back to the room, since there are refrigerators, etc. This place has good access and is ideal if you want to sometimes eat in your room or do your own laundry.

Don’t let the fact it is shaped like a ship put you off - it actually very cool and well done theme throughout with high end finishes. Highly recommended.

Well I have to say this hotel has been refreshing to say the least ! Deserved of its 4 stars.....I have been in thailand and cambodia for nearly a month always staying in 5 star..... Well this beats half of the 5 stars we stayed in and at a fraction of the price. Unfortunately I am vy fussy with where I stay and the hygiene of the hotel is very important to me. My stay here has been excellent and locally there are some great places to eat...... The best thing to do when you arrive is hire a scooter/moped should cost no more than 200 baht a day then just grab yourself a map and head off and explore..... For amazing sunsets head off to the amari vogue hotel about 4 miles away they are very welcoming and the sunsets are absolutely amazing we tried to book this hotel but unfortunately they were full so we stayed here at the beyond resort....happy about that as got the best room in the huse and saved a grand ! Anyway book the beyond and you will not be disappointed .....lots of long boats leaving from the beach to hong island where kayak hire is available at 400baht an hour stunning place although a little busy.....if your into snorkelling then ask to go to chicken island or poda island as we found the coral to be excellent and many species of fish available. 1800 baht from the hotel private boat or head of to ago nang where you can get on a long boat for 300 baht return per person Hope that's been of help.... Have a great holiday

We loved our stay at this hotel! We arrived late morning but our room wasn't ready so we went out for the day arriving back in the late afternoon to find our room had been upgraded to a a one-bedroom suite and breakfast thrown in for free. The front desk manager said because we were travelling with a child they thought we could use the extra space which I though was very sweet. All the staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and spoke good English. The buffet breakfast was good - mostly Asian choices (Thai and Japanese) with a few Western options like fried eggs, potato hash, croissants etc. Location is excellent - less than five minutes walk to the BTS station Phrom Prong although parents with strollers should be aware there is no escalator or lift from street level at this station which means carrying kids and strollers up stairs!! Very close to Emporium shopping centre which has great dining options. There's also a little Thai place with a sign "Good & Cheap Thai Food" that does excellent food for only 40B a plate just at the end of Soi 26 on Sukhimvit Rd. The room itself was fantastic. Our room was a one-bedroom suite and had a living area with flat screen TV (free movies channels & cartoon network), dining table for two, kitchenette with fridge & microwave and a sitting area. The bedroom was great. Very comfy bed which sometimes you don't get in Thailand, lovely bathroom with separate shower and bath and nice hot water. The wifi in the hotel is the best we've come across in Thailand - fast and reliable. Overall, I can't recommend this hotel enough!!!!

We checked out and stayed for the afternoon by the pool, had a shower and left for the airport(230 baht by meter along Sukhimvit,On Nut and Lad Prao...no tollway) If you know Bangkok the distance from tourist sites is no problem,15-20 minutes takes you to Siam Paragon(shopping) or Sapan Thaksin and the Chao Praya river boats to all the main temples etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful. As others have said it should have another star. Ther are lots of food stalls across the street and up the side soi.You can also walk to Carrefour or Tesco.Tesco is the next MRT stop you get off and walk directly into the store. All large department stores have a resteraunt area with 15-25 kiosks selling every kind of Thai food that is clean and cheap. If you walk out from Tesco back toward the hotel about 2-3 blocks turn right and down a block you are at Carrefour. Also many Thai massage for 100 baht an hour, cheaper than most of Thailand. I have been to Bangkok many times and found this to be a great hotel, quiet and clean! They have a tuk tuk to take you to the MRT(one block away but use the overpass if you walk so you do not have to cross the busy intersection)

Hotel Clover Patong Phuket

This was one of 3 hotels we booked in Thailand and we must say it was the best. The room had all the amenities we needed, even usb chargers for our electronics. They had flip flops for us to use and a beach bag. The rooftop pool is nice and has a good view. The breakfast buffet is really good and has a wide variety of food. The staff was very nice to us.

This may sound crazy but after a day out of shopping under the weather, that's really a great way to end the day. There were two toilets, one with a rain shower. There was also a kitchenette and a living room. The room was really spacious even for four adults. Getting to the BTS or MRT station is not a problem because the hotel does provide free shuttle service there; the same cannot be said if you were coming back to the hotel though (which is comparable to other hotels in Thailand I believe). The hotel is about an 8-min walk from Sala Daeng BTS station but if you're tired from walking, the cab fare from the station to the hotel is about 35 baht. Near the station there are many massage parlours and food available. Silom Complex is nearby too. So with the considerable distance between the hotel from the BTS station, you really will get a fantastic quiet night rest. There's a pool and a small children's playground but we didn't get to use those facilities. Staff there provided great service too.

we were looking for a 4/5 star experience somewhere near to soi 93 in bangkok and found this little gem. the residence is fairly new and this is apparent when you enter the reception, the place is spotless clean and smells very fresh. the staff were all very helpful and extremely polite, the rooms were 45sqm and had very comfortable beds and again were probably the cleanest i have stayed in in thailand. breakfast was a buffet breakfast, not the best i have ever had but still it had a decent choice of both continental and traditional thai, and was of good quality. the swimming pool and garden area were great, as was the fantastic gym facilities. room service is served until 10pm, and had a good choice from within the hotel kitchen, but also had a directory of multinational cuisines from all over the world that would deliver and some were 24/7. overall taking everything into account i would actually rate this as the best value for money place that i have stayed in bangkok and i have probably stayed in over 30 various places in bangkok over the past 11 years. located only a stones through from bang chak bts (2 mins to walk) the viva garden serviced residence is fantastic and i for one will definitely return here again.

One of the best experience you will get in the pool. The staff are awesome, starting from the concierge to the housekeeping staff everyone is friendly. Specially the reception team, they are very helpful and understanding. And not to forget ‘Funnie’(receptionists), she is the star of the hotel. The moment we checked-in we were greeted and welcomed by her in a very professional manner. Very good communication skills and very good spoken English. Helped us in all possible ways she can and also recommended some places for sightseeing. I really would love to see ‘Funnie’ welcoming me in my next trip to The Marina Phuket Hotel. Will surely visit again and recommend this hotel to everyone visiting Phuket.

Cant express in words. The best is I enjoyed working for my business purpose with wifi upto 3 MBs per sec to 10 Mbs per sec. Thats the best and fastest i ever found out in any hotel all over the world. Best is there internet service is too good and stable. I never found a single problem in last 5 days. There restaurant is awesome. I ate almost heavy breakfast. There jacuzzi is too good. There entertainment room is amazing. The swimming pool is awesome. gym too good. And outdoor table tennis awesome. Overall there staff are very polite and always greeting you as you walk down the ally. They are so helpful. Every time i come back in Thailand this is the place i will love to stay ever again in my life. I would recommend this hotel to all travelers of all kind. This hotel is too good than i expected while booking. thanks

In fact I’m struggling to think of a single criticism. Perhaps the noise from ongoing construction would be the only negative but this is due to the ongoing renovation of the hotel block by block. The block we stayed in was newly renovated, lovely bathrooms and modern bedroom with a small balcony. Breakfast was really good with lots of choice, all staff were friendly and welcoming, very professional. It’s right on Patong beach so all you have to do is cross the road and you’re on it. Special mention to the fantastic Belgian Beer Cafe, they stayed open to serve our family food after 11.30pm on the night we arrived and I never thought I’d get Leffe on tap in Phuket. Next time we’re in Phuket we’ll return.

The pool villa in which we stayed for 11 nights was stunningly beautiful and perfectly maintained. It was secluded and quiet, so you could relax and enjoy your time in the pool or sitting out by the lagoon. The service was also oustanding, although surprisingly few of the resort staff spoke English well. Other than that small negative, our stay was idyllic. Highly recommend it!

I stayed in 4 hotels in thailand and this was by far my favourite hotel. Even though it was the smallest It had everything and food was great offering Thai and Italian cuisine. The hotel is so chic with monochrome marble tiles and hand painted bird murals and a touch of brass everywhere transports you to France.

This was our 2nd time staying at Mai House(we came here to stay for a few nights, about a year ago for vacation). The quality of service and amenities at this hotel has not changed a bit. In fact, it has even gotten better. As a coffee lover, I greatly appreciated the illy espresso machine with complimentary capsules daily, as well as the french press and local coffee ground that was provided in the room. The room did not have a bad smell, as many hotels in Thailand have, and it was cleaned very well by housekeeping. The staff is also excellent. Mr. Yee greeted us warmly and made check-in a breeze. Also, during our stay, we were impressed that ALL staff(including housekeeping) greeted us with warm smiles. We tried the massage service, which was great quality for the low price. The gym was a little bit small, but equipment and essentials(water and towel provided) were top notch. Although the location of the hotel is a bit away from the main attractions of Patong, there was free shuttle service that was scheduled to leave many time s throughout the day(going to patong beach and juncyelon mall) After leaving Mai House to travel to a different part of Phuket, I want to go back to it again and again. It is THAT good. We have decided to just stay at this hotel for the entirety of our Phuket vacation, the next time we come again!

This resort is perfect for couples and just to relax in phuket. I was traveling with my friends (Group of 3) which we stayed in the villa together. Sad to say, the resort is not really for those travelers whose aim is to roam around easily as the location is quite isolated. This resort makes me feel very safe as there is guards around the resort and they are very friendly. This resort provide great services, and gives good quality amenities. overall, the resort have a very good scenery and very good quality environment. However, if you are thinking of traveling to other beaches, you may need to think twice. the closes beach is Kamala beach, which takes around 15 mins of car ride if the traffic is good. If you are thinking of travelling to Patong beach, the travelling time would take you around 20 - 30 mins if the traffic is good. This resort is famous in phuket and a little pricey. However, the service and scenery is what you will receive in exchange of the pricey tag. the price of the food in the restaurant is quite cheap as compared to other five star hotel/ resort. The Spa is easily fully booked. So, if you wish to try the spa in the resort, book the slot early. there is snorkeling activity and other sea activities which is totally free. they even provide scuba diving (but when i visit, there is no instructor as they are hiring). I would strongly recommend this resort to travelers whose aim is for romantic and relaxation. This resort would be a perfect destination for honeymoon or any anniversary trip. It would definitely hype up the romantic atmosphere. Conclusion is, if you are looking for a romantic/ relaxing stay in phuket, this is a perfect stay for you!

My newlywed wife and I stayed at U Nimaan for three nights. The summary of this review is that it may just be the best hotel service we have ever had and we have stayed at many 5 star resorts from Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton etc. This boutique hotel in Chiang Mai Nimaan district is a serious gem. AMAZING breakfast buffet included in our charge with impeccable options and service like we've never experienced. Food was astounding. High tea was delicious. Pool and sauna so nice! Gym! First off, we were greeted upon arrival late at night with staff ready waiting for us, knowing our check in time approximately. We had clear instruction and personal walking us to our room. The greeter was extremely nice, luggage was taken care of right away delivered to our room. We tipped but one thing to note at this hotel, EVERY staff member was so eager to help and so kind and caring yet with no feeling that a tip was obligatory, they did their job happily and with no expectation which is SO refreshing.

Planning Your Trip to Thailand – The Only Guide You’ll Ever Need

Planning a trip to Thailand can make your head spin.

Where should you visit, what should you pack, do you need a Visa?

The questions can be endless.

I've helped numerous people over the years plan their trips to Thailand; both close friends and family, and friends of work associates who have contacted me for advice.

In this post, I'll reveal the same tips I give them, and help you plan the holiday of a lifetime.

This post will also help you if you're planning a family trip to Thailand, a move to Thailand, either for a job, teaching, or just an extended stay.

  • Where to stay
  • Weather seasons
  •   Accommodation
  •   Pre-holiday to-do list

planning-trip-thailand

Where to Stay in Thailand

If you're visiting Thailand for two or three weeks, then you're probably torn over which parts of the country to visit.

There are so many islands to consider, and so many areas of the country that boast beautiful scenery and interesting culture.

The key is to strike a balance between not staying in one place too long and not visiting places too quickly – otherwise you don't get to really explore and appreciate them.

My general advice  for a holiday would be to visit three areas of the country:

Some might say you should avoid Bangkok because it's really busy, hot, and doesn't have a beach.

In my opinion, if you're going to visit Thailand, then you should experience Bangkok.

It's actually a good place to arrive and spend a few days.

Because if you've had a long haul flight, then you will most likely be landing in Bangkok, so you can catch a taxi to your hotel and get some rest, rather than waiting around for a connecting flight.

Moreover, if you're flying across a couple of time zones, then you will be jet-lagged.

I'd rather get over my jet lag in Bangkok and be fully refreshed for visiting the beaches and islands, than sleeping half the day away at a beautiful beach location.

So two or three nights in Bangkok is ideal.

wat-arun-bangkok

Wat Arun is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok Yai district of Bangkok.

If you arrive in the afternoon on the first day, then you can hang out at the hotel, maybe visit a market and grab something to eat, and then get some sleep.

You're probably going to sleep in late, or wake up early the next day and then want to sleep again in the afternoon to get over your jet lag.

You'll then have one more full day where you feel more energetic and can visit the Grand Palace , maybe a floating market, and do a bit of shopping .

Another option is to spend a couple of days in Bangkok when you arrive, and then come back to Bangkok for a day before you leave.

The reasoning behind this is that you might want to do some shopping before you go home, but you might not want to do that shopping when you arrive because you would have to carry the stuff around with you for the rest of your holiday.

This really depends on how much shopping you plan on taking home.

If you have more time on your hands in Bangkok, check out my list of things to do in the Big Mango.

Staying on Thailand's Islands

It goes without saying that the Southern islands have the best beaches.

There are some good beaches that you can get to in a couple of hours from Bangkok, such as on Koh Larn and Koh Samet.

However,  if you choose to go to Phuket or Koh Samui, from that base you will be able to visit a number of other islands too.

You also have a good selection of beaches on those islands.

phi-phi-island

The Phi Phi Islands are an island group in Thailand, between the large island of Phuket and the Straits of Malacca coast of Thailand.

Yes, these are the more commercial islands, and while there are more intimate and less touristy islands, pretty much all of the best beach locations have a lot of visitor traffic in high season.

Furthermore, the more remote islands aren't always that practical for families, and some lack good accommodation and things to do, particularly for kids.

If you come for a second or third holiday, then you might want to explore some of the less popular but more beautiful islands.

But if this is your first and potentially your only trip, then I recommend going to Phuket or Koh Samui, and from these islands taking boat trips to see other beautiful islands and beaches.

Koh-Samui-Samujana-Villa

Located a short drive from Choeng Mon Beach in Koh Samui, Samujana boast luxurious villas.

The North (Chiang Mai)

You might choose to simply stay down south and enjoy the beaches, and I wouldn't blame you. I'd happily sit on a deckchair for the entire holiday, to'ing and fro'ing from the massage spot, gym, and bar.

But if you want a deeper insight to the country and to see another side to Thailand, then the North is a good place to visit.

Chang Mai in particular is very popular, Westerner-friendly city – surrounded by beautiful nature.

You can base yourself in Chang Mai for a few days and go off for trips to Doi Intanon National Park, Doi Suthep Temple, the Elephant Nature Park ,  and enjoy the good food and night markets of the North.

Again, like Bangkok, a few nights here will be adequate.

doi-inthanon-national-park

Doi Inthanon, in Chiang Mai, is the highest mountain in Thailand.

Got an Extra Few Days?

If you find yourself back in Bangkok and you've got an extra few days to spare, then you might go to Koh Samet for a couple of nights,  which is three hours from Bangkok and a 30-minute ferry.

Samet is not far from the aptly named Sin City of Pattaya. Indeed, if you are a single man or with a group of friends, you might like to see the bright lights of Pattaya,  which is a beach resort too, and only a couple of hours drive from Bangkok.

Probably not the smartest idea to take your wife or girlfriend there. Unless they aren't bothered by go-go bars and hookers.

Visiting, in Summary

Those who have lived in Thailand for a while, or visited on holiday a number of times, may poo-poo my suggestions and give you recommendations of places to go that are off the beaten track.

But that's because the more time you spend in Thailand the more you want to get away from the touristy areas and find more isolated places.

But generally, for a first holiday, you want to be in the thick of it and see the main attractions of the things other people have seen.

You want easy access and plenty of options. Trust me, I've been there, done it, and worn the t-shirt.

That being said, if you are traveling for three months or more and spending a month in Thailand, then you can visit these popular hotspots and then go off and visit some more remote places like these.

khoa-sok-national-park

Khao Sok is situated on the mainland between Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak and Koh Samui.

Accommodation for Different Budgets

Depending on whether you're a solo backpacker or a family of 4 on the holiday of a lifetime, accommodation requirements vary for different types of traveler.

Luckily, Thailand generally has something for everyone in all corners of the country.

From package holidays to hostels and mid-range hotels, check out my booking recommendations here.

Also consider that if you aren't too fussed about plush accommodation, you can rock up and book in at what's available.

During high season you won't be able to be too picky, as the nicer rooms and bungalows get booked up in advance.

But let me just say that I have never not been able to get a room somewhere in any of Asia.

And you're planning on catching a train or a bus, check out 12GO here.

Pre-Holiday To-Do List

The large majority of countries are subject to a visa exemption. This means that when their citizens enter Thailand they get a stamp that permits a stay of 30 days.

If you are coming towards the end of your trip and you think you might want to stay longer, you can visit an immigration office and extend this stay by another 30 days for 1,900 Baht.

However,  in the interest of good planning, if you think that extending your stay is a good possibility, you should consider getting a single entry tourist visa, which gives you a 60-day stay in the country.

A multiple entry tourist visa  is a six month visa, but you can only stay for 60 days at a time. You then have to leave the country and come back into activate a further 60 days.

Again, the multiple entry option can be extended for 30 days by going to immigration and paying the aforementioned fee.

Generally speaking, those coming for a two or three week holiday won't need to worry about a visa.

2. Travel Insurance

It goes without saying that you will need travel insurance.

Not only does travel insurance protects you against hospital bills if you fall ill or have an accident, but some policies will also cover you against cancellation of your flights or lost baggage and stolen goods.

Travel insurance is one of those things that many people forget to do in the midst of all the excitement of planning.

So I suggest this is something that you do early on in your trip planning process to make sure that you are covered from the moment you leave your house.

I don't want to make you fear going on holiday, but at the end of the day it gives you peace of mind.

See my travel insurance recommendations here.

3. Suitable Backpack/Holdall

Another thing that people often don't consider until the last minute, mainly because they have an old suitcase or holdall in the attic that  they always use, is suitable luggage.

Consider what type of holiday you are taking:

  • Are you going to be traveling on trains and buses?
  • Are you going to be trekking or diving?
  • Or are you going to be staying in luxury hotels and taking  private cars everywhere and having someone to hold your back?

You won't want a big clunky suitcase if you are  taking an overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai .

And if you are going trekking , then you may need to consider a second bag in addition to your main backpack; one that is detachable and can be taken with your essentials on the trek.

In fact, a second, smaller backpack is advisable for everyone visiting Thailand.

You will need something practical to carry around with you during the daytime.

Although, when out shopping and in crowds you should wear backpacks on your front so that you can't be pick-pocketed, particularly in Bangkok.

I'm not trying to scare you here, the same goes for any major city you are visiting, including my hometown, London.

4. Mosquito Spray

You can find mosquito spray in Thailand at pretty much every convenience store, and is likely to be cheaper than in your home country.

However, if you have sensitive skin, you may want to look for a higher quality brand in your home country before you leave.

Your mosquito spray should contain DEET.

Note that the higher percentage of DEET does not represent how effective it is but how long it lasts:

Products containing lower concentrations of DEET are as effective as those with higher concentrations, but for shorter periods of time. On average, products containing 100% DEET will be effective for 9.5 hours, 30% DEET for 6.5 hours, 15% DEET for 5 hours, 10% DEET for 3 hours and 5% DEET for 2 hours ( source )

5. Vaccinations

There maybe some vaccinations for you to consider before you visit Thailand.

These can usually be done by your regular Doctor, and even at some pharmacies. There's a full list here.

6. Changing Money

People often change up lots of money before they go on holiday, thinking that they will run out quickly, but this is not a wise thing to do.

It isn't a good idea to travel with loads of money on you, just in case you lose it.

Moreover, I usually get a better exchange rate when I arrive in Bangkok than I do back home, anyway.  You will find a number of exhange places in central Bangkok.

If you want to do it at the airport, don't do it at the exchange booth inside the arrivals area, do it when you come out into the main foyer, as you tend to get better rate there.

You might choose to change up to $300 before you leave, depending on how many people are traveling.

That being said, it is expensive to withdraw money in Thailand- because you get charged for the local withdrawal and charged by your bank back home for the international withdrawal.

This could end up costing you $5-6 dollars per withdrawal.

That said, this isn't really a big deal if you only make three withdrawals across the whole holiday.

Note that cash machines are generally limited to a withdrawal amount of 20,000 Baht per time.

If you do want to avoid fees, then consider finding a credit or debit card provider that doesn't charge for international transactions,  and/or has low rates on withdrawals.

You might also want to consider something like the Revolut Card.

This is a multi-currency prepaid card, which allows you to pre-load money and spend abroad.

One I would  recommend is making a plan before you leave, detailing how much money you plan to take in cash, both money changed into Thai Baht and money in your native currency to change up in Thailand.

And then consider a cost-effective strategy for withdrawing money and spending money on your cards.

7. Health Insurance

If you have travel insurance then you aren't likely to need this, but for those with specific conditions, or who want specific extra cover – perhaps for an extended period, health insurance may be a requirement.

Cigna is a reputable and reliable health insurer for those living and traveling in Thailand.

You can get a quote using their 2-minute quote page by clicking here.

Streaming & Secure Internet Browsing

If you want to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Disney + on holiday, you will need to bypass GEO restrictions to watch some of the content.

You can do this with a VPN. A VPN is also a good idea when using WIFI in airports and cafes, particularly if you are going to be logging onto personal banking or accessing other sensitive information from your laptop, phone or tablet.

I have a post with more details on this. Read the VPN post here.

Planning Your Trip, In Summary

Bookmark this guide, or print it out and make planning your trip to Thailand easy.

If you follow along section-by-section and tick things off as you go, you'll have all the important bases covered.

Here's an overview of what we've covered in this guide:

  • Decide where to stay: Bangkok, Islands, Chiang Mai (North) and places to visit
  • Check the weather before deciding on your travel dates
  • Research accommodation, based on your budget
  • Do you need a visa?
  • Get travel insurance
  • Get a suitable backpack/holdall
  • Get mosquito spray
  • Get vaccinations
  • Change money
  • Consider health insurance
  • Get a VPN to bypass GEO restrictions on Netflix, and safe browsing

Proper planning makes for a successful outcome, or at least so my mother said.

Have a great trip!

Booking.com is part of Booking Holdings Inc., the world leader in online travel and related services.

Verified reviews from real guests.

We have more than 70 million property reviews, all from real, verified guests .

How does it work?

It starts with a booking.

The only way to leave a review is to first make a booking. That's how we know our reviews come from real guests who have stayed at the property.

Followed by a trip

When guests stay at the property, they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff is, and more.

And finally, a review

After their trip, guests tell us about their stay. We check for naughty words and verify the authenticity of all guest reviews before adding them to our site.

If you booked through us and want to leave a review, please sign in first.

‘The White Lotus’ Thailand is next. These hotels do it on a budget.

HBO’s hottest hotel group, “The White Lotus,” is expanding to Thailand — on screen at least. The location for season 3 has been confirmed , and Bloomberg reported in January that loose-lipped industry insiders say filming is taking place at the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui , the Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas and a still-undisclosed hotel in Bangkok. The network has stayed quiet on specific hotels.

The news is a boon for Four Seasons and the Thailand-based Anantara group; the show’s previous two seasons, set in Hawaii and Sicily , have proved to turbocharge travelers’ interest in their already popular respective locales. After the seasons aired, bookings soared at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and the Four Seasons’ San Domenico Palace in Taormina.

It’s safe to say that these Thai resorts can expect a similar uptick in reservations after season 3 premieres in 2025. But living out the White Lotus fantasy isn’t within every traveler’s reach. One night at the Four Seasons in Koh Samui will cost you at least $1,400. And while at $660 per night, starting rates at the Anantara in Phuket are a fair bit lower — they’re still not exactly a steal for anyone but the most deep-pocketed visitors.

Nightly rates at Thailand’s big-brand luxury resorts can often be on par with those in Europe or the United States, but a burgeoning ecosystem of local hospitality groups and independently owned hotels offers many of the same five-star perks at a fraction of the price. For about $180, the average rate of a night in a three-star hotel room in Miami Beach, you can book a villa with a private pool and round-the-clock service on the beach in Koh Samui.

Here are six Thailand beach retreats offering five-star luxury on a Best Western budget.

Meliá Koh Samui

On palm-pinned Choeng Mon Beach, a few bays east of the Four Seasons Koh Samui, sits the first Thai outpost of Spanish hotel brand Meliá . Still fresh from its opening in 2020, this family-friendly resort aims for midmarket rather than high-end, but that doesn’t make it any less worthy of its five-star label. Rooms, starting at $181 per night, riff on the island’s maritime past with nautical rope decor and licks of ocean-blue, while its top-level suites occupy reclaimed teakwood barges. Even the standard rooms open to a bubble bath on their balcony, and suites with either a private pool or direct access to a more than 2,200-foot pool that meanders through the resort’s manicured tropical gardens have the option to have breakfast delivered in a floating basket (if that’s your thing).

The Surin, Phuket

Rumors circulated that Amanpuri, one of Phuket’s ritziest beach retreats, would be one of the film sets for the third season of “The White Lotus.” They were ultimately dispelled, but the resort remains a firm favorite with wealthy travelers. With rates often shooting to well over $1500 per night, this is territory for the privileged few — but insiders know that the Surin next door offers similar perks and the same palm-tufted setting at a fraction of the cost. This beachfront spot is the only resort offering access to Amanpuri’s semiprivate Pansea Beach, one of Phuket’s prettiest. Pitched up among the treetops, the Surin’s airy deluxe cottages start at $220 per night and overlook the Andaman Sea from their snug, parasol-shaded balconies. The resort is part of White Lotus lore, too: it was here that creator Mike White first hinted at Thailand being the show’s next location.

Cape Kudu, Koh Yao Noi

A short speedboat-hop from Phuket, the island of Koh Yao Noi feels like a trip back in time. Its palm-fringed beaches remain blissfully free of tourist crowds, and sleepy coconut farms — not shopping malls or amusement parks — still cover most of its jungled inland. Cape Kudu , on the sunrise-facing east coast, is one of the island’s chicest places to stay. Its breezy rooms and villas come furnished with lots of linen, sun-bleached woods and wickerwork; a similarly laid-back theme dresses the spa, restaurant and beanbag-lined infinity pool. With low-season rates from May to October starting at $122 per night, this small resort offers excellent bang for your baht. And those dazzling views over Phang Nga Bay’s dramatic karst formations? They’re free.

The Sarojin, Khao Lak

This resort in the beachside holiday hub of Khao Lak, about an hour north of Phuket, delivers a textbook example of classic Thai hospitality — fresh orchids, jasmine-scented towels and lilting sawatdi ka, or hello, greetings included. The Sarojin ’s rooms are teakwood-clad wonders with spalike bathrooms and heaps of private space, but you’ll probably spend more time in one of the pool cabanas, which are lined with gauzy curtains billowing in the breeze. A powder-sugar beach stretches out in front and is a jumping-off point for kayak trips and sailings on the resort’s charter yacht, which can end with candlelit dinners on a nearby private islet. Rates for garden views start at $180 per night and include leisurely all-day breakfast with sparkling wine served until 6 p.m.

The ShellSea, Krabi

From taxis to cocktails, prices on Thailand’s most popular islands are generally much higher than on the mainland. The beaches, however, can be equally pretty — which makes booking a seafront resort ashore a smart way to cut holiday costs (additionally, you’ll save on boat transfers and plane tickets — flights to Thailand’s island destinations tend to be pricey). One of southern Thailand’s most popular hideouts is Krabi, a string of honey-hued beaches and jungle-cloaked karst formations. The ShellSea resort, a ten-minute drive from postcard-pretty Ao Nang beach, makes for a plush base with suites from $120 per night, a spa and three swimming pools. A hammock-lined private beach hugs part of the resort’s oceanfront, while island-hopping day trips can take you to Phang Nga Bay’s prettiest stretches of sand.

SAii Koh Samui Choengmon

While Koh Samui’s three-mile Chaweng Beach, sits just ten minutes from its doorstep, SAii Koh Samui Choengmon ’s perch on little-developed Hanuman Bay feels a world away from the crowds. Its most affordable room will set you back about $170, but the amenities are anything but cheap. At this all-villa resort, even the entry-level digs open to a generously sized sun deck and private pool, have a tropic-tinged bathroom with rain shower and include bespoke bathroom amenities mixed with your preferred scents. Other perks include complimentary yoga classes every morning, and a pick-and-mix of free snacks to bring back to your room.
