Swaminarayan Akshardham is a Hindu temple in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, built by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, Swaminarayan’s fifth spiritual successor, and inspired by Yogiji Maharaj, Swaminarayan’s fourth spiritual successor. The beautiful temple took 13 years to construct. It is built from 6,000 metric tonnes of Rajasthani pink sandstone and is located in the heart of the 23-acre property. The Akshardham Mandir measures 108 feet in height, 131 feet in width, and 240 feet in length. There are 220 stone beams, 264 sculpted figures, 97 carved pillars, 17 domes, and 8 balconies in total.

Sarita Udyan is situated on the banks of the lovely Sabarmati river in Sector 9 of the city. Locals love Sarita Udyan as a picnic spot, and it’s close to a deer park, another place you should definitely visit. Mahudi is well-known for its Shri Ghantakarna Mahavir temple. Mahudi is a very old Jain tirth. According to Jain religion, it is one of the most important miraculous tirth places. This derasar, considered one of the most sacred Jain pilgrimages, is located in Mahudi, Mehsana District, and covers an area of 2 square kilometres. The place was known as Madhumati in the recent past. Based on the inscriptions in Brahmi script, the idols and artistic remains recovered from the ground show that this location has a history dating back nearly 2000 years. In 1923 A.D., Acharyadev Buddhi Sagarsurisvarji was inspired in a dream to install the idol of Ghantakarna Mahavir Dev.

Thousands of Jain devotees, as well as devotees from other faiths, flock to this idol to seek blessings. Vijapur’s nearest railway station is 10 kilometres away. There are frequent bus services to Mahudi from Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Kalol.  The Mahudi Temple is open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Gandhinagar , the capital of Gujarat , resides on the banks of River Sabarmati. Contrasting with the chaotic city life of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar is on the peaceful side. The broad avenues, fortified houses, open areas, proper jogging tracks and walking gardens, Gandhinagar is one of the well planned cities of the nation. The city has been named after Mahatma Gandhi and in 1970 the secretariat was moved here. It also is the home to the politicians of Gujarat. Enlisted here are 10 places that one must see while on a trip to Gandhinagar .

1. Akshardham Temple

Akshardham Temple is an amalgam of religion, architecture, art, exhibitions and research sprawling in about 23 acres of land. An intricate craftsmanship of over thousand artisans is reflected in the temple premises. Nearly 6000 tonnes of pink sandstones were used to make the main temple stand amidst the manicured lawns. The temple belongs to the Swaminarayan Sect where the worshipping sculpture is a gold-leafed statue of Lord Swaminarayan which stands about seven feet tall.The temple is an architectural masterpiece.

Beautifully carved Step-well or Vav, (as it is commonly called in Gujarati) Adlaj Step Well is a splendid example of Indo-Islamic architecture. Built in the 15th century by Queen Rudabai, the well extends a several stories inside the ground. The step well has three entrance staircases and intricate ornamental carvings along with carved flowers, leaves and birds on the walls and pillars. This octagonal well is truly artistic. It is believed to be used by travellers in the early days. Also because of its architecture the well inside is cooler as the sunlight doesn’t reach the well directly except for a brief period during the day.

3. Gujarat Science City

Gujarat Science City is an initiative of the Government of Gujarat to encourage the students towards science. The science city comprises of an amphitheatre, energy park, Hall of science, planet earth and Life Science Park along with others. Currently spreading science activities in an area of 107 hectares it is proposed to extend and acquire a total area of 300 hectares for carrying out science related activities. The park has a unique charm that pulls people of all age to explore science.

4. Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park

India’s own Jurrasic Park, Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park is said to be the second largest ground where the dinosaurs hatched eggs. The fossilised eggs and some skeleton parts of these gigantic animals were found on this ground. The park is managed by GEERI (Gujarat Ecological and Research Foundation) and was set up by Geological Survey of India. This park is the sole Dinosaur Museum in the country. Some fossil track ways are also on display in this park.

5. Craftsmen’s Village

A little hamlet on the outskirts of Gandhinagar, Pethapur is also known as the Craftsmen’s Village . Once richly famed for its bandhani work that includes dying and tying the cloth and recreate a typical pattern. Nowadays the village is famous for the wooden blocks that have unique patterns and are used to hand pattern the cloth. These wooden blocks are exported. The vibrancy of the village will take you deep down to the roots of the local culture.

6. Trimandir

Trimandir is a collection of three sanctums that together combine and make this beautiful temple come to life. Carved with pink sandstones the temple is dedicated to a number of deities. The right sanctum is devoted to Lord Shiv, Parvati Devi, Lord Hanuman and Lord Ganesha. The centre sanctum has Lord Simandhar Swami and the third sanctum houses Tirupati Balaji, Shreenathji, Bhadrakali Maa and Shree Amba Maa.

7. Hanuman Temple

The hanuman temple is a symbolic representation of sacrifice, loyalty, devotion and bravery. The saffron coloured idol bears a mountain over the shoulder. The temple is situated in the main city and is conveniently accessible. A lot of devotees come here on regular bases.

8. Mahudi Jain Temple

The temple dedicated to Ghantakarna Mahavir, Mahudi Jain Temple is a Jain Pilgrimage. The temple is built in an area that extends around 2 kms in length. The artistic remains of the temple along with the idols that were excavated from the ground are about 2000 years old as inscribed in the Brahami Script written over them. The idol is considered to be a reincarnation of King Tungabhadra who was considered to be a protector of the needy and hence the idol has a bow and an arrow in the hands. The idol is also said to possess miraculous powers.

Panning over a massive area of 23 acres and created by utilizing the unique pink sandstone this temple is a great representation of the authentic religion and culture of Gujarat . A visit here is considered to be a must for every devout Hindu.

Adalaj Stepwell:

Built in the year of 1498 and situated at a distance of 3 to 4 kms from Gandhinagar this marvelously opulent structure was created with an aim of curbing the water crisis which was persistent in the Adalaj village which is situated nearby. Serving the purpose of a Stepwell there are a series of stairs which lead down till the ground water. The overall architecture of this structure is impeccable and extremely well made. The Stepwell represents some of the most finely created illustrations which were done by the Indian architects and engineers of that age. The entire place is extremely tranquil and a visit there is a great way to ease your mind. When it was first built the Stepwell also used to serve as a peaceful and a spiritual stopover place for the resting purposes of exhausted pilgrims. One of the most unique features about this place is that you will experience a sudden and an eventual drop in the temperature, due to the presence of a water source making the place extremely comfortable to explore even during a hot and scorching day.

Adalaj Trimandir:

Situated at a distance of 20 kms from the main city of Ahmedabad close to the village of Adalaj, this impressive temple pans over a massive area of 40,175 sq. ft. this temple complex is surrounded by neat and lush gardens which contains several benches and a glorious fountain in the centre. The unique feature about this temple lies in the fact that the 3 main lords of Hinduism is placed together in one platform. These lords are of different beliefs which are Jainism, Vaishnav and Shaivite sects. If you want to spend some peaceful time with your friends, family or loved one then a visit to this park will definitely be the antidote you need. The garden houses some fun filled recreational activities which is available for all age groups like deer park and botanical garden which attracts a range of visitors. As the name suggests this place is named after and Indian legislator and political leader who was also the co-founder of the Swaraj Party and the brother of Sardar Patel, Vithalbhai Patel. Dholeshwar Temple

Temple is located at the Sabarmati river before the Gandhinagar. It is a very peaceful place and good for a picnic as well. You can have a nice view of the GIFT city tower and the river. It is located just before the gift circle if you are travelling from Ahmedabad.

Indroda Park / Zoo

The park is located in the Indroda village near Gandhinagar. It is a very large park having a variety of artificial large dinosaurs. Park has offered a bicycle to view inside. It will take approx 2 hours to view the entire park. Keep the food/water with you. The park is famous for bird watcher too.

Sant Sarovar Dam

This is the place for a picnic and having a garden beside the river. It is located in the Gandhinagar. Nowadays it becomes a picnic spot. It is a good place for bird lovers. You can notice bird lovers in the early morning and you can find varieties of birds and their sounds in the air.

Akshardham (Monday Closed)

The beautiful temple is located in the city. It has many things to do. It may take more than 4 hours if you want to cover everything. Security officers will take the mobiles and metal things before you enter the premises.

The museum includes the famous movie Mystic India (45 mins) only in 1 theatre in Gujarat. It is an amazing movie, never miss it.

Akshardham Mandir Gandhinagar

Sector 28 Garden

This garden is very large and half square km in length and width. It has the rides for the children, a toy train (currently closed), the shopping centre of the toys, food counters

Swarnim Park (Centeral Vista Garden)

From the Mahatma mandir to Sachivalay around a 3-4 km long garden with lush green lawns and a fountain. Must visit the garden for a relaxing evening with friends and families. Many families bring dinner to the garden and play games.

1 – adalaj stepwell just 11 kms from gandhinagar.

If you are planning back to Ahmedabad or Mehsana route, visit Adalaj stepwell. It has a marvellous architecture with a mixture of Hindu and Muslim arts. it has a lush green garden next to it. The Stepwell it self magnificent to see if you are having interested in the arts and sculptures.

2 – Mahakali Vad (30 Km from Gandhinagar)

This is a famous Vad (banyan tree) which is one of the widest trees in Gujarat. It may be second after the Kabirwad. The temple of the Mahakali Devi is situated in the middle of the trunk. This Vad is spreading around 5 meters each year. Thanks to the farmers who donate the land for this tree and show interest in the progress of Vad. It is good for one day picnic from Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and Himmatnagar

Near the GIFT City-Chiloda road, there is a forest name Aranakya Van which is famous for the Nilgai and forest.

About the temple, I do not have much information 🙁 but is the good temple/view of Sabarmati. Sabarmati’s sand is really amazing when you pass through the Kotar to reach Galteshwar. Near to it there is a bridge and check dam. It is really amazing to see

Location – From the Chiloda, go towards the Pratij. before Pratij takes a left turn towards Mahudi. Mahudi is 12 km from this place

You can reach Gandhinagar:

By air : Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is the nearest international airport. It takes 26 minutes by road to reach Gandhinagar from the airport. 

By train : Ahmedabad Railway Station is the nearest railway station. It is situated 26 kms away from Gandhinagar.

By road : Gandhinagar has connectivity to all the cities of Gujarat via state-owned and private buses. It is also well-connected to major Indian cities.

Akshardham temple.

One of the largest temples in the country is the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar, a popular pilgrimage site. The same organisation that erected the Swaminarayan temple in Delhi, BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, created this temple devoted to Lord Swaminarayan. The facility was opened on October 30, 1992, after a construction period of more than 13 years. The temple comprises a single enormous monument and a surrounding garden that families use for picnics. The world’s first laser water display was just presented there, and it is a must-see. Other amenities include parking, baggage, lost & found, and wheelchairs.

The wheelchairs, baggage, lost & found, parking, etc., facilities are available to make your experience easier. Not only this you can also attend the Arti in this mandir. A four part exhibition is also carried out in this temple. You can also buy tickets for the visit and watch it. This exhibition is usually from two hours 15 mins to two hours 30 mins. It will show you three halls in this exhibition and also show you a documentary named “Mystic India ” which is nothing less than a must-watch. 

The Akshardham temple is closed every Monday. From Tuesday to Sunday, visitors are allowed between 10 am and 6:30 pm. The entire tour covering the Mandir and Gardens, the exhibition and the Abhishek darshan does not need any ticket. It is free and open to all devotees. The best time to visit Akshardham would be during dusk. That way, the temple’s grandeur can be witnessed leaving enough time to enjoy the light show.

Adalaj Stepwell

The exquisite Adalaj Stepwell was skillfully constructed to alleviate the water shortage in and around Adalaj Village. The stepwell is about three to four kilometres southwest of Gandhinagar, the state capital of Gujarat. One of the many step wells constructed in India to allow access to groundwater is the Adalaj Stepwell, which was constructed in 1498. The entire structure serves as a superb example of the sophistication of the architects and engineers India had at the time. The great engineering of the people of the late 1400s or early 1500s is visible in this picture.

Visiting this place will let us know how this well’s interior can be about six degrees colder than the outside. Adalaj stepwell is the only Gujarati stepwell with three entrance stairs is another noteworthy aspect of the structure and a great tourist spot. The first floor, which has an octagonal opening on top, is where these steps come together. The stepwell is open from 6 am to 6 pm for visitors. There is no entry fee. As the stepwell is three to four km away from Gandhinagar, you can reach by means of buses which are frequently available.

Children’s Park

The Children’s Park of Gandhinagar is located in Sector 28. Children’s Park is a popular garden and well-known tourist attraction in Gandhinagar. Sarita Udyan

The phrase “green city” is often used to describe Gandhinagar. The city’s various parks and gardens enhance its aesthetic appeal. Gandhinagar draws visitors due to its spectacular setting next to the Sabarmati River. Sarita Udyan, one of Gandhinagar’s most well-known gardens, is another popular tourists spot. The deer and the large area draw visitors because of the area’s peaceful and unspoiled atmosphere. 

Sarita Udyan is given further importance by its location on the sloping terrain next to the Sabarmati river. There are many leisure and entertainment options available. The area is quite lovely and the calm and tranquillity of the park provides an ideal setting to relax and sit with friends and families or go for an evening stroll there.

You can reach Sarita Udyan in private vehicles and cabs. Entry is free for all, and the place is open from 9 am to 6 pm. It takes an hour to take a tour of the gardens.

In Gandhinagar, the Indian state of Gujarat’s capital, there is a botanical park called Punit Van. With the assistance of the Gujarati government’s wood branch, it was advanced in 2005. Craftsmen’s Village

The Craftsman Village in Gandhinagar, is noted for its Bandhani Sarees and is situated behind the Sabarmati River. It attracts hundreds of tourists and shoppers each day. Hand embroidery and bright colour printing on sarees and dresses are done with wooden printing blocks. Here, you can find well-made clothing that is also pretty affordable for any kind of tourist. The Craftsmen’s Village, which is in the village of Pethapur about seven km from Gandhinagar, is home to the Gujjar Suthar cast’s artisans. The name “Craftsmen’s Village” was given to the community because it was full of skilled labourers working and producing such pieces of art for sale. The settlement is situated along the Sabarmati River’s banks.

You must go to Specialists’ Village if you want to see the state’s way of life at its very foundation. The town used to be recognised for producing highly beautiful Bandhani sarees. You can still come here to watch artisans create sarees, wooden squares, and any other kinds of remaining artefacts. Bandhani work, which primarily takes place in Gujarat and Rajasthan, involves tying and dyeing small pieces of cotton or silk cloth. 

The craftsmen’s village is easily reachable by an auto. The best time to visit this place is around noon, after 1 pm. Entry is free for all but make sure to get a hold of the pieces you fall in love with as it not only amps up your aesthetic but also helps keep the culture and craftsmanship of Gujarat alive!

The Trimandir in Gandhinagar, over 40.000 square feet in size, unites Jainism, Shaivism, and Vaishnavism under one roof. A lovely green garden, vintage wooden chairs, and a stunning tall fountain surround the entire shrine. A useful museum and a small theatre with performances about the histories of these cultures are also on the temple’s grounds. Shree A.M.Patel, also known as Dada Bhagwan, was the inspiration behind this nonsectarian temple. He worked to instil a knowledge of the Soul, Shiva, and the ultimate truth in his followers from all of the major Sanatan Dharma sects. Tri Mandir at Adalaj is the first and largest of the three Tri Mandirs. It is a two-story building with a 31250 square foot satsang hall that can accommodate more than 6,000 people.

This off-white piece of beauty is the beautiful multi-religious temple known as Tri Mandir. Any visitor to this location can discover how similar people from all religions are and learn how to coexist with them. The antivirus area and the temple with Children Park are the main features that enhance the appeal of this temple. The temple complex includes a museum and a small theatre that depict the life events of Dada Bhagwan with Akram Vignan, as well as an Amba refreshment and food zone, Vignan Bhandar, and a children’s area. Temple Trust participates in a variety of social, educational, and spiritual endeavours. When we visit this location, we can browse the museum on the grounds of the temple and watch documentaries.

The mandir is open for darshan everyday from 5am to 10pm. The fastest way to reach there is by means of a car and coach rental service, as the mandir is on the Ahmedabad-Kalol highway near the village of Adalaj. Entry is free for all in the mandir.

Indroda National Park

Indroda Dinosaur & Fossil Park is a priceless gem located near Gandhinagar, Gujarat’s capital, and spans an area of around 400 hectares on either side of the Sabarmati River. One of only two dinosaur museums in the nation, Indroda Park is known as Jurassic Park of India. It is administered by the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation (GEER). Given that it has a botanical garden, a whale and sea mammal skeleton exhibit, and even a botanical garden, the Indroda Nature Park is regarded as one of the top things to do in Gandhinagar. Aalloa Hills

Aalloa Hill offers such a retreat; it is accessible while still providing privacy from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is ideally situated 7 kilometres from Pethapur Cross Road, 15 kilometres from Gandhinagar and 45 kilometres from Ahmedabad on the Gandhinagar-Mahudi highway. From this point on, the rolling countryside tempts one with a variety of flora and fauna, and one senses a detachment from the metropolis. Peacock and Nilgai can be seen playing throughout the length. Within the 500 acres of gently rolling, well-kept hills is a tranquil sanctuary. On the opposite side, steep forest reserves that considerably boost the area’s biodiversity drop to the banks of the Sabarmati River.

It is a 31-minute drive from Gandhinagar along the Vijapur Road. There is no fixed timing of visit and the cost varies on what package you opt for to enjoy your stay here.

This vast area of open grass-maintained fields gives you a break. You have a vacation in a fresh environment, play golf and enjoy the luxury of this place.
