Luxor Museum

With a massive collection of relics gathered from tombs and temples, the Luxor Museum is one of the best museums in Egypt. You can see treasures from the tomb of King Tutankhamun, the royal mummies of two pharaohs, and antiquities dating from the end of the Old Kingdom to the Mamluk period.

Hamam Mahshi

In Egypt, pigeons are marinated and stuffed with rice or freekeh, onions, giblets and a variety of spices like cumin, pepper and cinnamon. The whole bird is then grilled or spit-roasted, and while Egyptians traditionally eat hamam mahshi during celebratory occasions, you can also find it in restaurants around the country.

A classic Egyptian dish made of pita bread stuffed with minced meat, onions, parsley and onions, which is then baked in an oven. It’s traditionally made in Egyptian homes, although our Local Specialists will show you the best restaurants to try this delicious dish.

Kushari is Egypt’s favorite fast food, made from a bowl of macaroni, chickpeas, rice and black lentils covered in tomato sauce and fried onions. It’s then topped with spicy chilli sauce and garlic vinegar, and it’s one of the tastiest comfort foods in the country.

In Egypt, the standard voltage is 220 V and the power plugs and sockets are of type C and F. The standard frequency is 50 Hz.

Comfortable shoes

From exploring the Great Pyramids of Giza, to wandering the Botanical Gardens, you’ll need a comfortable pair of shoes on your Egypt holiday.

Light clothing

Egypt is known for its blazing heat, so it’s best to wear light, loose-fit clothing. Since Egypt is a Muslim country, you’ll need to ensure your shoulders and knees are covered.

The sunshine can be blinding in Egypt, so bring a pair of sunglasses to protect you from the sun rays and the sandy desert.

Protect yourself from the sun with SPF 30 or higher and be sure to apply it regularly. It’s also advised to bring a hat and a light scarf to shield your skin.

Découvrir les splendeurs de l’Égypte avec Tours Chanteclerc

Du 18 au 26 janvier dernier, 12 agents de voyages ont pu découvrir les splendeurs de l’Égypte dans le cadre d’un voyage de familiarisation organisé par Tours Chanteclerc.

Les agents étaient accompagnés de Marie-Eve Bédard, directrice ventes et marketing, Jackie Goetchi, forfaitiste du département Europe et Marie-Andrée Sauvé agent technique au département Europe.

Le groupe a commencé le voyage au Caire par la visite de la mosquée de Mohamed Ali Pacha, surnommée la «mosquée d’albâtre» édifiée dans la partie sud-est de la citadelle de Saladin. La visite du Musée du Caire est un incontournable durant un séjour dans la capitale. Tous ont été subjugués par la beauté des nombreux artefacts, dont certains anciens de 5 000 ans.

La visite du plateau de Gizeh à dos de dromadaires afin d’en apprendre davantage sur les pyramides de Khéops, Khéphren et Mykérinos fut l’un des moments magiques de ce voyage !

Ensuite, le groupe a pris la direction de la Haute Égypte et procédé à l’embarquement à bord d’une M/S Monaco pour y faire une croisière sur le Nil. Cette portion du voyage a permis aux agents de visiter les temples les plus importants et les plus splendides de l’époque des rois et des reines égyptiens, dont Philae, Kom Ombo et Edfou.

Le groupe a eu également eu l’occasion de visiter quelques souks, un village nubien, rencontrer des artisans travaillant l’albâtre, le basalte, mais également le papyrus et prendre le thé à la menthe dans un café typique.

Un autre moment inoubliable de cet éductour fut un vol en montgolfière au lever du soleil. Il a permis au groupe d’observer du haut des airs plusieurs sites archéologiques. Ensuite, direction la vallée des rois et des reines afin de découvrir les somptueuses tombes aux couleurs, encore à ce jour, éclatantes. Plusieurs participants furent très émus devant ce spectacle grandiose!

Ce merveilleux voyage s’est terminé par la visite du plus grand complexe religieux de l’Antiquité, Karnak, relié au temple de Louxor par une allée de sphinx de près de 3km de long. Les agents sont revenus ébahis par la multitude de trésors archéologiques, la beauté des paysages ainsi que par l’accueil des Égyptiens.
