Single holiday with companion in Bangkok

Treat yourself to one or more days / nights in the most impressive metropolis of Asia - Bangkok. We are happy to help you in finding a suitable hotel for you and your companion.

Die Skyline von Bangkok

From the airport to the hotel the cheapest and easiest way is to go by public taxi. The days when one was ripped off by taxi drivers are over. All taxi drivers at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport have to turn on their taximeter, which calculates minutes and kilometers exactly. The friendly lady at the taxi counter asks for the name of your hotel and for a fee of 50 THB (about 2 €) you get a taxi assigned. Please always pay attention to the following sign Public Taxi, which leads directly to the taxi desk.

Flughafen Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Taxi-Schalter

The ride from the airport to your hotel will not cost more than 400 THB (approx. 11 €).

In Bangkok we recommend our guests the Center Point Sukhumvit Soi 10. The hotel is located centrally in the heart of Bangkok's business district and offers spacious rooms and a rich continental breakfast buffet. Many guests choose - not knowing it better- hotels near the Royal Palace and the touristically spoiled Kao San Road. This area is not recommended, as its connection to public transport is very bad (no subway, Skytrain) and the area is well known for rip off taxis. The Sukhumvit area, which also houses the Center Point Hotel, offers great transport links and taximeter taxis, making it easy to get trough Bangkok quickly and cheap, regardless of the traffic situation.

Smooci Review: Easily Book A Companion Using Smooci

Updated December 28, 2018 By

Smooci is an interesting app that has caught the attention of many guys, including myself. The reason being is that it has really created a very simple way to book a companion.

After reading this Smooci review you will get to see exactly what it is and why it can be so useful — especially while you are in Bangkok since it is one of the main cities it is so popular in. These are the cities it now operates in:

  • Bangkok (Pattaya coming soon)

Hong Kong is coming next along with other cities going forward. And remember, you could arrange a girl in Bangkok and go anywhere in Thailand with her. Just communicate exactly what you want and come to an agreement. You will always find what you are looking for.

The reason why Smooci is so powerful is because it has revolutionized the way guys can book companions in Bangkok. Back in the day if you wanted to book one you would have to call in or email to the booking agency directly. And the problem was that the client never had full control over the entire process and was limited to that specific agency.

This was not an efficient way to have access to the most companions. Smooci has changed this.

With Smooci you have access to so many more girls from different agencies all within the app. You have full control and have the ability to see exactly who the girl is, what she offers, and even track her on route to your place.

The same way that Uber made it easy to order a ride in the taxi industry, Smooci has done this in the escort industry. Now you can imagine how helpful this can be for so many guys.

Here are the 3 things I really like about Smooci:

1. Smooci Is Very Discreet

Using Smooci is probably the most private way to find girls. You don’t even need to leave your room. You can easily view and browse from the comfort of your phone.

The app makes sure that the privacy of users and the girls are respected. It is all confidential.

This is a huge bonus for the guys who prefer not to go into bars, or meet freelancers in the streets.

It is even more discreet than finding girls on the dating apps — since that usually also requires you to meet the girl somewhere or to set up a date.

If privacy is one of your concerns than you really should be checking out Smooci .

2. Smooci Can Save You Time

If you are the type of guy that doesn’t want to waste time in the bars (and money) then you will find Smooci extremely useful.

And even though dating sites can save you time finding girls, it does still take some time and effort from you. You still need to chat with them, set up dates, etc. And that is fun too, there is a time and place for that. But with Smooci you don’t even need to do any of that stuff.

So Smooci is also great for those times when you want to put very little effort in and save time .

3. Smooci’s User Friendly Design

As you may have seen, apps and platforms have become very user-friendly these days. People want simple (yet powerful) apps. And Smooci is one these modern apps that has kept this recent standard. Using the platform is very easy and straight-forward.

I will show you how it all works below, or you can get a head start and check it out yourself at the Smooci Website .

How To Book Girls Using Smooci

1)You first select the city you want:

smooci review Select city

2)Then you select if you want a lady or ladyboy :

smooci select gender option

3)How long do you want a companion for?

smooci select time

4)Select the appointment time

smooci escort booking

Now here is the next great part, you can easily set your filters and preferences of what you want.  After this you will see the available women that you can choose from.

smooci available girls

Check Out Smooci For Free

Using Smooci is free, and you can use the platform to book your companion, but for the advanced features it will require to sign up to a premium membership .

The benefits of the premium membership are really good, you get the following:

  • Location Tracking : You get to see exactly where your date is and how long it will take to reach you.
  • User Reviews : You get full access to user reviews of the girls to get a better idea of what exactly to expect.
  • 24 Hour Advanced Bookings : You can easily set up an appointment in 24 hours advanced. With the free standard membership you can only book 4 hours in advance. This is helpful for the guys need that extra time to set up the date (Business travelers, short time tourists). Premium members also have the option for the 1 hour booking option , which is great for guys who want a short-time experience.

The premium membership is really worth it and offers a better experience for most guys.

Smooci Review: My Final Thoughts

My first thoughts about Smooci have been very positive.

I really think that this is the future of industry. Smooci has created a fun and safe way to book your companion. The selection of the girls is also something that should be mentioned.

My searches brought up some very attractive ladies that I would love to spend some time with. I also like the fact that it is so easy to use and discreet.

I know we all love to go the bars and streets sometimes and find what we want. But sometimes you really just want to relax without having to do any socializing and searching.

I also noticed that Smooci can actually cost you less than going to the bars. The reason is sometimes you waste time and money on drinks and bar fines to actually find a woman that you really like. Usually with Smooci the whole process is much less complicated.

Smooci can still improve on its locations however. As said before, it is only available in select cities across SouthEast Asia for now. It will be even better as it adds more popular locations to its list of cities. In this Smooci review I have given you an idea of what to expect with this amazing platform.

Take a look for yourself and see how you like it. Check out Smooci Here

***Updated on 3rd of May 2022

Visit Bangkok

In the bustling capital city where you would start your journey, bike around and get a feel for the country. Discover the charm of the city on long-tailed canal boat rides to get a different view. Enjoy the city where tradition meets modernity in all the chaos and color you can imagine!

Koh Lipe is one of the less crowded islands in the far south, which is all about the gorgeous beaches. Here you can expect to bike around or snorkel without the overwhelming number of tourists getting in your way.

Eat like a local

When in Rome, do like the Romans do! Be sure to grab a bite on the street and experiment at different local and authentic food joints to get a taste of traditional Thai food, famous for the use of fresh herbs and spices with all of its aroma and zing!

The major religion in Thailand is Buddhism. Be sure to visit the Sanctuary of Truth, the Temple of Reclining Buddha, and the Tiger Cave Temple. Have these names caught your interest?

Scuba Diving

Thailand boasts calm and clear waters, ideal for diving. If you have never tried it before, what better place than Thailand to learn and experience scuba diving at a relatively inexpensive cost!

Thai Massage

After a long haul flight or a busy day of exploring the country, the renowned Thai massages could be the perfect way to unwind. Although, beware that they are slightly intense with stretching and cracking involved.

Join the Full Moon Party

It is just what it sounds like! There truly could be no party to compete with this one! It is like a large festival, a celebration in which the beach is lined with people doing fire shows, each bar with their own sound system, and plenty of alcohol and dancing.

Shop at the floating markets

Thailand has several famous markets. The most unique one is probably the floating markets found throughout the country. Here you can find boats piled with flowers, foods to eat, and other merchandise. It is touristy for a reason and it’s great for pictures!

You can volunteer at the Elephant Nature park near Chiang Mai. Here you can have interactions with elephants in an ethical way, learn why you should never ride them, and get a chance to give back to the community.

The Best Travel Itinerary - 8 Days in Thailand

If you're planning on traveling to Thailand, it's best to have at least one week to visit, but more time is highly recommended as there are plenty of places to explore.

How to get to Bangkok: Most international airlines fly to Bangkok regularly as it is one of the first destinations to gain popularity as an international tropical holiday destination. The main Bangkok city is about 30 minutes from the airport, but traffic could be unpredictable, especially in the evenings. You would need to spend at least three days in Bangkok to explore the city, get over jet lag, and recuperate before exploring other islands.

Day 1: Arrive in Bangkok

Most likely, you will first arrive in Bangkok. We recommend spending at least three days there, as the city is huge and there is a lot to see.

null

We suggest getting a bike to explore the city so that you can easily visit the charming nooks and corners and get a true feel for the city. This way you can spend less time in traffic and go around the different street markets, the small alleyways, and Chinatown.

Day 2: Bangkok

On your second day, we recommend visiting the traditional and historical parts of Bangkok:

  • Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market
  • Grand Palace
  • Wat Arun
  • Chao Phraya River

null

Day 3: Bangkok

On the last day in Bangkok, once you have become acquainted with the ways of the city, you can make time to party or relax.

null

Even if you are not up for a party, you could still enjoy cocktails and a panoramic city view from the likes of Vertigo and Moon Bar.

Day 4: Phuket

Phuket is an island located in the south of Thailand. Here, you can explore the historic old town, with its interesting architecture and numerous cafes and boutiques. Then, spend time at Karon beach to escape the city and Bangla Road to enjoy the nightlife scene.

null

Day 5: Phi Phi Islands

On the Phi Phi Islands, located 50 km from Phuket, you can take a speed boat (or a ferry if you want a slower experience) and marvel at the incredible limestone tower structures, which are a magnificent display over the water.

On the Phi Phi Islands you can go island-hopping; pick one that you fancy and take some time to go snorkeling, scuba diving, and swimming.

null

Day 6: Phi Phi

On this day, explore the beautiful coastal cities and islands on your own terms. Some of the popular options are Kata Beach and Nai Harn Beach. You could also go island-hopping and hit James Bond Beach. If you want to see elephants that are treated ethically in their natural habitat, visit Green Elephant Sanctuary Park. You can also check out the famous Maya Bay seen in Leonardo DiCaprio's movie ‘The Beach’.

Day 7: Chiang Mai

From Phi Phi, you can take a flight to Chiang Mai, located in the northern region of Thailand. Getting around this bustling city is a breeze with ample Tuk Tuks and the local Songthaews, or ‘Red Trucks’. Riding in these converted pick-up trucks with seats in the back is a fun and super low-cost mode of transport (around 30baht per person).

Now that you’ve figured out how to get around, it’s time to explore. We recommend visiting the many Buddhist Temples. The most famous of these is Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, which offers a great view across the area. Be warned that the steps to the top are long but worth it for the magnificent view! Wat Chiang Man is another temple worth a visit.

Day 8: Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is a great place to do a traditional Thai Cooking Class. Visit a market to pick up your ingredients, then you get to create those iconic Thai flavors and enjoy becoming the next Wok expert!

End your day with a stroll around the Chiang Mai Night Market full of local crafts, souvenirs, and of course delicious street food.

null

For longer stays

If you have time to stay longer in Thailand, you can take a day trip to Pai to see waterfalls, hot springs, and plenty of greenery. Another ‘must-visit’ in Chiang Rai to check out the Wat Rong Khun ‘White Temple’.

null

Best time to visit Thailand

It’s very important to consider the different seasons when planning your next trip to Thailand. Like many countries in this part of the world, it's best to avoid traveling during monsoon or ‘rainy season’. Due to the monsoon, Thailand officially has three seasons: hot, cool, and rainy.

Hot Season (March-May)

The temperatures during the hot season range from 30 to 35 degrees celsius.

If you travel during these months, head to the beach to enjoy the sun and surf.

Cool Season (November-February)

The cold season tends to range from 24-30 degrees celsius. Some would argue that this isn’t particularly cold, but compared to the hot months this is a nice change.

Rainy Season (May-October)

During the wet season, Thailand is prone to experience torrential rain. Sometimes this is just for a few hours, but it is not uncommon to last for most of the day. It is, therefore, best to avoid Thailand during these months so that you can spend your travels under the sun rather than under an umbrella.

When to visit?

The best time to visit Thailand is during the hot or cool season to reduce any chance of running into bad weather on your trip.

Hidden gems in Thailand

National Parks

Thailand is renowned for its nature and its stunning landscapes. Eradwan, Sai Tong, Mu Ko Lanta- just to name a few that should be on your list. You will find jungles, waterfalls, beaches, and plenty of serenity.

Lopburi Monkey Banquet Festival

This is one of the most unique travel experiences you can find during your time in Thailand. Lopburi hosts this festival on the last Sunday of November each year. Across the ruins of Phra Prang Sam Yot temple, a feast of fruits and flowers are displayed for the monkeys to thank them for boosting tourism in the local area.

Long Neck Women

The Kayan Tribe are women, originally from Myanmar, who fled from the Myanmar military regime to Northern Thailand. These women are fittingly named for their cultural technique of elongating their necks with brass coils, starting from the age of five. As these women grow older, more coils are added.

Getting Around Thailand

If you are planning a low-budget trip, taking the night buses might be your best option. One of the major benefits of taking the bus during the night is making the most of your precious time. Buses are also more connected than planes as they can take you directly to remote places that may not have a nearby airport. Prepare yourself with plenty of water and snacks… ear plugs and an eye mask might be your saving grace on these long journeys.

Taking a plane during your Thailand travels is often necessary, especially if you are wanting to visit the islands in the south or fit in multiple destinations during a short period of time. Domestic flights are frequent, cheap and a great option to get you anywhere you need to go.

Trains in Thailand can be more expensive and take longer if you are doing long journeys. However this is a great way to combine comfort and still get to appreciate the view from the window.

What does it cost to travel to Thailand?

How expensive is it to visit Thailand? How much money will I need per day? Your answers to these questions have been categorized according to three different budgets: budget-friendly, mid-range budget, and high budget. This list should set you up well for your trip budgeting session. Please keep in mind that the costs below are for a single individual.

Daily costs, on average, to consider when planning your holiday in Thailand:

a) Budget-friendly: 730 Baht (20€)

b) Mid-range budget: 1,400 Baht (40€)

c) High budget: 4,000 Baht (112€)

Your daily costs depend on how fast you are traveling around, visiting a new place every day will cost you more money. Also, take into account any special activities that you want to do there.

A.   Accommodation:

You will have plenty of options when it comes to choosing accommodation in Thailand. From a hostel dorm bed to a five-star hotel or resort. Below outlines some of these expected costs.

Budget-friendly:

· For somewhere like Phuket hostels cost around 180 Baht (5€) per night for a single bed in a shared room and about 400 Baht (11€) per night for a private room

·  A low-budget hotel room could cost you around 560 Baht (16€) per night.

  Mid-range budget:

·  3-star hotel in a central location: around 800 Baht per night (22€)

 High budget:

· 5-star hotel or resort may cost around 2,550 Baht per night (70€)

The daily average cost for food in Thailand can be relatively cheap if you are seeking out street food. However, you will easily find restaurants that have low-cost menu options.

 Budget-friendly:

· Street food will always be the cheapest when it comes to Thai food. Luckily, it can also be the most delicious.  Pad Thai from a street vendor can cost you around 50 Baht (1.4€)

Mid-range budget:

·  Having a sit-down meal in a restaurant is going to be a well-priced option. For an average meal, you can expect to pay 100 Baht (3€)

·  Upper restaurants: about 700 Baht per meal (19€)

C. Transportation:

Transportation prices differ depending on the distance you are planning to travel and which mode of transportation you book.

·  Bus: the cheapest way of transportation will cost you around 400 Baht (11€).

· Plane: The fastest way to travel long distances is to fly. You can find flights from Bangkok to Phuket for around 650 Baht (18€).

High budget:

·  The most expensive transportation option is to hire a car. You can get a car for around 5,500 Baht (150€) for 8 days. Plus the cost of fuel on top, depending on how far you drive.  You may also find yourself sitting in traffic for longer than you would like.

Must-Try Foods in Thailand

This dish could be one of Thailand's most popular… and for a good reason. Packed with big flavors it's one you should not miss.

null

Green Papaya Salad

This salad will send your taste buds to Thai cuisine heaven. Make sure this one is on your list to try.

null

Yam Nua or more commonly known as Thai Beef Salad is a favorite of locals and travelers alike.

Massaman Curry

We can’t talk about Thai cuisine without mentioning curry. Massaman is one of many different delicious curries variations.

Some recommendations on where to eat in Thailand

A quick way to find the best local spot to eat is to go on a Food Walking Tour. You will be shown the nearest markets, street food stalls, and restaurants that are well-liked by your local guide.

Don’t be fooled by the exterior or furniture set up at the local Thai eateries- more often than not the ones with the small plastic chairs cramped onto the sidewalk are the best option.

Travel Tips for Thailand

null

The currency in Thailand is the baht. The exchange rate is not too difficult to get used to:

100 Baht = 2.98€

It is quite common to pay with cash, but card machines are found in most establishments. You will be able to find ATMs mostly everywhere.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for Thailand are ever-changing as the world slowly opens up again. Keep in mind the rules can change within a short amount of time. Make sure to check your entry requirements on your own country's embassy website online and inform yourself about the visa requirements as well.

Tipping in Thailand

In general, tipping in Thailand is not mandatory, however as a gesture of goodwill a tip for good service will be greatly appreciated.

Smoking in Thailand

You may encounter locals smoking on the street as it is legal in Thailand. Around 20% of the population are regular smokers. However, smoking inside is illegal and now at some of its main beaches to mitigate the littering of cigarette butts.

Public toilets

Using Thailand's squat toilet may come as a challenge to some. Unfortunately, these are common across most parts of the country and are often not the cleanest. Don’t let this be a deterrent for your travels as these will become part of your overall authentic experience. You may pay around 3baht to use these public toilets however, there's a chance you can find some that are free of charge.

In the heart of Bangkok lies a treasure trove of attractions that are a testament to its rich heritage and pulsating energy. The 9 destinations below are not just sights to behold but also offer a glimpse into Bangkok’s everyday vibrancy and heritage beyond the usual tourist trail.

Grand Palace

The Grand Palace is Bangkok’s most illustrious landmark. Once the residence of the Kings of Siam, this opulent complex captivates visitors with its beautiful architecture and intricate details. Within its walls, you’ll find the sacred Wat Phra Kaew, which houses the Emerald Buddha, a highly revered figure carved from a single block of jade.

Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn)

Standing majestically on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, Wat Arun is an architectural representation of Mount Meru, the center of the world in Buddhist cosmology. In the soft glow of dawn or the fiery colors of sunset, the temple’s spires, encrusted with colorful porcelain, create a breathtaking silhouette against the sky. Climbing the steep steps rewards you with a panoramic vista of the winding river and the city beyond.

Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha)

This temple complex is a sprawling sanctuary of tranquility in the bustling city. It is best known for the Reclining Buddha, a monumental statue that stretches an impressive 150 meters in length. The soles of the Buddha’s feet, intricately inlaid with mother-of-pearl, are a spectacle in themselves. Wat Pho is also renowned as a center for traditional Thai medicine and massage, offering a unique cultural experience.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

A microcosm of Bangkok’s shopping scene, Chatuchak Weekend Market is a dizzying maze of commerce. From vintage apparel and artisanal handicrafts to street food and tropical flora, the market’s alleys are lined with over 15,000 booths, each offering a glimpse into the local lifestyle and creativity. Navigating the crowded lanes is an adventure, and haggling is part of the fun.

Jim Thompson House

Tucked away in a leafy compound, the Jim Thompson House is a serene enclave that tells the story of the man who helped revive Thai silk. The traditional Thai houses, now a museum, hold a collection of Asian art and curiosities that Thompson collected. The guided tours provide insights into his life and mysterious disappearance, as well as the history of the Thai silk industry he championed.

Khao San Road

This bustling street is the quintessential backpacker’s haven. By day, it’s a hub for street vendors selling handcrafted souvenirs, budget-friendly clothes, and travel essentials. As the sun sets, Khao San Road transforms into a lively nightspot, with bars and clubs playing live music and street food stalls serving up local and international delicacies. The atmosphere here captures the youthful and adventurous spirit of travelers from around the globe.

Bangkok’s Chinatown is a sensory overload with its narrow alleys, crowded markets, and gold shops. The area comes to life at night when street-side restaurants and food carts start serving some of the city’s best dim sum, seafood, and traditional desserts. A walk through this neighborhood also reveals cultural landmarks like Wat Mangkon Kamalawat, the largest and most important Chinese Buddhist temple in Bangkok.

Ayutthaya Historical Park

A short journey north of Bangkok will take you to the ancient city of Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Kingdom of Siam. The Ayutthaya Historical Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site , featuring the ruins of palaces, Buddhist temples, and statues. The site tells a story of a bygone era through its architectural remains, offering a peaceful escape from the modern-day hustle and bustle.

Amphawa Floating Market

For a more authentic market experience, venture to the Amphawa Floating Market, located about 50 kilometers from Bangkok. This evening market is frequented by locals and is known for its canal-side homes and wooden boats vending colorful fruits, vegetables, and traditional Thai snacks. The market is particularly famous for its grilled seafood. Additionally, visitors can take boat tours to see fireflies in the nearby trees in the evening, creating a magical atmosphere.

Culture and Etiquette

Thai culture and traditions.

Once entering Bangkok as a tourist, it is advisable for you to know about Thai culture. It is a tapestry of artistic, culinary, and social elements that reflect a long history of cultural evolution and a deep respect for tradition. Rooted in Theravada Buddhism, Thai culture emphasizes values like respect, self-control, and a non-confrontational approach to life. Here are some values that you should know:

  • Respect is important in Thai society, especially towards the monarchy and religious institutions. The Wai, a slight bow with palms pressed together in a prayer-like gesture, is a common form of greeting and shows respect for the other person’s social status.
  • Spirituality is woven into daily life, with numerous temples (wats) serving as community centers.
  • Family is at the core of social structure, with strong ties often extending to the extended family.
  • Thai art, dance, and music often tell stories of historical events and religious tales, with classical dances such as the Khon and Lakhon being critical cultural expressions.

The importance of family is deeply ingrained in the Thai community.

Do’s and Don’ts For Travelers

Travelers to Thailand generally, and to Bangkok specifically, should be mindful of local customs and etiquette to show respect for the culture.

  • Dress appropriately: When visiting religious sites, cover your shoulders, chest, and legs. Shorts and sleeveless tops are often considered disrespectful.
  • Use the ‘Wai’: A polite bow with palms pressed together is a respectful way to greet, thank, or apologize.
  • Respect the monarchy: Always speak respectfully of the royal family and handle any images of them with care.

Don’ts

  • Don’t touch heads: The head is considered the most sacred part of the body, so don’t touch someone’s head, even children.
  • Avoid public displays of affection: Thai culture is conservative; kissing and hugging in public are frowned upon.
  • Never point with your feet: Feet are considered the lowest part of the body, so never point them at people or religious images.

Festivals and Events To Attend

Thailand is known for its colorful festivals, which are often tied to Buddhist or royal traditions. Attending these events can provide an immersive cultural experience:

  • Loi Krathong: Held in November, this festival of lights involves floating krathongs, or decorated baskets, on water bodies to honor the water spirits.
  • Yi Peng: Coinciding with Loi Krathong in northern Thailand, thousands of lanterns are released into the night sky, creating a mesmerizing spectacle.
  • Songkran: Celebrated in April, this is the traditional Thai New Year, where water is playfully splashed as a symbol of washing away misfortunes.

How To Plan Your Bangkok Trip

Bangkok is a city of contrasts, where modern skyscrapers stand alongside traditional markets and serene temples. To make the most of your visit to this bustling metropolis, consider these practical notes.

Best Time To Visit Bangkok

The best time to visit Bangkok is between November and February , during the cool and dry season. This period is ideal for exploring the city comfortably without the intense heat and humidity that characterize Bangkok’s climate.

Here’s an overview of Bangkok’s seasons:

  • Cool season (November to February): The most pleasant weather, with lower humidity and cooler temperatures averaging around 24°C to 29°C (75°F to 84°F). This is the peak tourist season that attracts larger crowds and leads to higher prices.
  • Hot season (March to June): Temperatures soar to an average of 30°C to 35°C (86°F to 95°F). This is the time to experience the famous Thai New Year (Songkran) festival in April, where the streets come alive with water fights.
  • Wet season (July to October): The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall and high humidity. However, the rain typically comes in quick bursts and can be a refreshing break from the heat. This season offers the advantage of fewer tourists and lower prices.

While the cool season is undoubtedly the most comfortable for travel, Bangkok’s vibrancy and attractions are available year-round. Each season offers its own unique experiences, allowing travelers to choose based on their preferences and schedule.

How To Get Around The City

You can arrive in Bangkok at either airport:

  • Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) : Bangkok’s main international airport, conveniently located about 30 km east of the city center. Airlines from all over the world connect here, making it the most likely entry point for most travelers.
  • Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) : A smaller airport, often used by budget airlines and regional flights. Located closer to the city center than BKK, but with fewer international connections.

Upon arrival, you’ll find various transport options to reach the city center:

  • Taxis : Readily available at both airports, offering direct transfers to your accommodation. Always ensure the taxi uses a meter or agrees on the fare in advance.
  • Public trains : The Airport Rail Link from BKK to the city is a swift and economical choice, bypassing potential traffic.
  • Ride-hailing apps : Services like Grab provide a modern alternative with competitive pricing.

Here are your options for navigating the bustling city:

  • BTS Skytrain : It’s an efficient way to traverse major districts. The Skytrain’s elevated tracks offer relief from the traffic below.
  • MRT Subway : Though it has a more limited network, it still provides access to essential areas of Bangkok.
  • Buses : The city’s bus system is extensive and cost-effective, albeit complex for newcomers.
  • Canal boats : For a picturesque commute, the Chao Phraya River and canal boats offer a memorable experience.
  • Taxis and tuk-tuks : These traditional methods can be enjoyable but require bargaining skills to secure a fair price.
  • Utilize a Bangkok Smart Pass for savings on transit and attraction fees.
  • For short distances, consider bike-sharing apps for an environmentally friendly tour of the local scenery.

Other Small Tips For Your Bangkok Travel Guide

Pack wisely.

  • Climate: Bangkok is hot and humid year-round. Pack light, breathable clothing, a hat, sunglasses, and a reliable sunscreen.
  • Dress code: When visiting temples, dress modestly. This typically means covering shoulders and knees, so bring along a scarf or shawl and wear long pants or skirts.

Health and Safety

  • Stay hydrated: The heat can be draining. Drink plenty of bottled water to stay hydrated.
  • Street food: Bangkok is famous for its street food, but you should choose the busy stalls where high turnover means fresher food.
  • Insurance: Travel insurance is highly recommended. Ensure it covers medical emergencies.

Money Matters

  • Cash is the best: While credit cards are widely accepted in shopping malls and hotels, small vendors and markets usually only take cash.
  • ATMs: Transaction fees may apply, so inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid card blockage.
  • Currency exchange: For the best rates, exchange currency at reputable banks or authorized money changers, not at the airport where rates are less favorable.

bangkok-travel-guide-12

It is convenient when having some Thai Baht cash for your trip

Connectivity

  • Wi-Fi access: Free Wi-Fi is available in many cafes, malls, and hotels. For constant connectivity, consider a local SIM card or portable Wi-Fi device.
  • Power plugs: Thailand uses the A, B, C, and O types. The standard voltage is 220V. Bring a universal adapter if necessary.
  • English is widely spoken in tourist areas, so communication is typically not an issue.
  • However, learning a few simple Thai phrases can go a long way in showing respect and friendliness.

Plan and Flexibility

  • Itinerary: Have a plan but be flexible. Bangkok is full of surprises, and you might discover a hidden gem just by wandering.
  • Cultural events: Check the local calendar for festivals and events. Participating can be a highlight of your trip.

Ayutthaya Period (1350 – 1767 AD): Reverting back to Khmer principles, Ayutthaya gained more power over its sovereigns which saw conflict between neighbouring principalities. After diplomatic relations began in the 17th Century, the Burmese invaded in 1767, capturing Ayutthaya. Although, control didn’t last for long.

Thon Buri Period (1767 – 1772 AD): Fearing another attack, Ayutthaya’s capital was transferred to a site closer to the sea to facilitate defense, procurement and foreign trade. A new capital was established in Thon Buri and rulers were tough, however, the kingdom disintegrated quickly due to a lack of authority.

Rattanakosin Period (1782 – the Present): A new ruler then transferred the capital to Bangkok and established the Grand Palace. Further rulers employed social and economic reform, restoring relationships with surrounding provinces, Western nations and trade with China and ending European treaties, establishing modern Thailand and avoiding colonization. From 1869-1910 slavery was abolished, by 1925 educational reforms had been introduced and in 1939 Thailand became a democratic government.

An enchanting archipelago brimming with cultural history, Thailand is steeped in rich tradition and spirituality that is heavily influenced by ethnic groups from India, Cambodia, China and Southeast Asia. Important to national identity, Theravada Buddhism is the national religion and includes Hindu spirituality such as worshipping ancestors and animism.

Thailand has unique cultural norms and etiquette that tourists may be unaware of. For example, pointing with your feet or touching a person’s head are taboos in Thailand as the feet are considered the dirtiest body part while the head is most sacred. It is also important to remove your shoes when visiting a temple or entering someone’s home.

A highlight for many travellers to Thailand is getting to experience the Thai food culture. Thai cuisine blends sweet, sour, salty, spicy and bitter tastes in a delicious balance that goes well with most meat and seafood. Rice is a staple part of the cuisine in Thailand, particularly jasmine rice which is eaten with almost every meal.

Thailand is located in Southeast Asia, in the central region of the Indochinese peninsula. The country shares borders with Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Malaysia. Thailand has a population size of approximately 66 million, which consists of a number of diverse ethnic groups. Thai is the country’s official language and is spoken by the majority of these individuals.

The Thai language, sometimes referred to as the Siamese language, belongs to the Tai-Kadai language family. Linguists have determined that the language originated from several languages: Sanskrit, Old Khmer, and Pali. It sounds similar to Lao when spoken.

The effects of South West Monsoon are recognized in June starting the rainy season and extending until October. Hot and humid in Southern Isthmus start on November to mid-March, with temperatures ranging from 75°F to 89°F (24°C to 32°C) during this period. This is the prime tourist season and the best period to visit Thailand. The temperature is generally moderate and warm. There are also lots of activities and festivals during this time of the year. In the North, particularly in Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai the dry season last six months, five months on most parts of Central and North-eastern Thailand, and only two months in Surat Thani. In Mae Hong Son the temperatures fall as low as 2 C. In Phuket, it rains in May and in October. The rainy season in Central Thailand is during August and September. The north-east and north are commonly frigid than Bangkok in winter, and warm in summer. Bangkok’s temperature is mostly hot, intense in April around 35 C and decreases to approximately 30 C in December. Rainfall, but not as heavy compared to Bangkok, may build an obstacle to trekking from July through September. October to January is the most restful period for trekking.

How Do I Find People To Meet Up With In Bangkok Using GAFFL?

What makes a good meet up, how do i choose the right people to meet up with in bangkok , why is gaffl the best website/app for meet ups bangkok .

GAFFL got featured in Travel+Leisure

What GAFFL Users Are Saying

Marie

"It’s really nice to have a platform like GAFFL with lots of travelers wanting to do the same as you, a real beautiful cultural exchange. You can meet people so easily and in a trustful way. We were four girls, from French, German and American backgrounds, without knowing each other from before. We spent an amazing week together, 2000km driving, camping on the way. We saw kangaroos, koalas, penguins and pelicans"

Saed

“I have found GAFFL to be an amazing tool for finding similar minded travel partners to embark on an adventure. Through GAFFL, I had organized a trip to Mexico City last month and Quazi joined the trip from Victoria, BC. We spent 14 days of straight exploring, hiking, eating and drinking. Quite an amazing experience - all thanks to GAFFL!”

Scarlett

"I accidentally scrolled across GAFFL and I'm so pleased I did. I met Amaia and immediately decided to road-trip together. We're spending 10 days together and it's great because we have so much in common. Couldn't have done it without GAFFL helping us find one another! It has honestly made NZ so much cheaper to explore as I get to split the costs with someone too"

I think this is a fabulous idea because the things that can get expensive while solo traveling can usually also be easily split between people. If you aren’t a hostel fan, it would be awesome to have people to split hotels and Airbnb with.

If car rental is the cheapest way to get around a destination, it would be ideal to have others to split the costs with. But most importantly it always makes the experience that much more memorable when you have new friends to share it with.

Solo travel is great. But there are some times that I do not recommend someone travel solo and where I personally try my hardest not to travel solo. Some examples of this relate to safety, like hiking a trail that doesn’t have many people walking it each day, or being in certain destinations where I’ve heard from others that it’s difficult as a solo female.

Other examples relate to expenses, like taking a road trip and renting a car. Situations like these are where I think something like GAFFL is a great idea. With GAFFL, you can find a group to go on that hike with or split that car rental with!

We truly believe that the best memories and experiences are the ones that are shared with others. It doesn’t matter if you’ve known someone for an hour or your whole life, when you do something badass together it’s sure to be a time you won’t forget.

Making connections and becoming friends with people all over the world is such a powerful tool to have when traveling. One day maybe you’ll visit your new friend in their homeland. Some of the best trips happen when you have a friend playing tour guide in their country.

GAFFL is a really cool opportunity to enrich your travels with like-minded people who will push you to get out of your comfort zone. No matter what type of personality you have, making new friends on the road is easier than ever.

I think GAFFL plays a role by allowing solo travelers to find travel buddies when needed. Though solo travel is a great way to travel, there are some experiences that are better enjoyed with more people (some don’t even allow for solo).

Friends and families are not always available to travel with, and sometimes the interests do not align for travel. Or sometimes you just want to socialize while still being solo most of the time. I think GAFFL helps solve these problems.

One of the things that hold people back is that they don’t have a partner or a best friend to travel with and they feel scared and uncertain to travel alone, especially long-term. GAFFL helps with that!

Another thing that holds people back is the perceived cost of travel. While travel doesn’t have to be expensive, it’s always more affordable when you can share the cost of accommodation and groceries with someone else. Again, GAFFL provides a solution for that!

When is the Best Time To Visit Thailand?

The best time to visit Thailand is during the cool and dry season between November and early April. Although you can really visit all year round by choosing the right part of the kingdom for your preferred climate.

The east and west coasts of south Thailand have different climates. The west coast is more comfortable during the winter months, when diving and snorkeling will be at its best. 9 things you should know before visiting Bangkok

I moved to Bangkok in 1999, a time when most visitors to Thailand reluctantly did a night in this megacity before beelining to an island or the north. Synonymous with traffic jams, pollution and urban sprawl, the Thai capital was largely seen as an unwanted but obligatory stopover.

Decades later, things have changed and Bangkok is now the destination of choice for many visitors – with good reason. Easier to get around and cleaner than ever, with a vibrant eating and drinking scene that caters to just about every budget and an enviable spread of intriguing sights and fantastic-value shopping, the city has more to offer than ever before.

Yet like any big city, Bangkok has its quirks and surprises. Here's what you need to know before you go.

Find out what you should know in advance about Thailand , including important cultural, religious and legal issues, etiquette and health.

Bangkok is easier to get around than ever

Bangkok used to be synonymous with traffic jams and air pollution. The jams still happen, but the good news is that the city’s public transportation system has grown immensely. The various above and underground rail networks currently unite 10 different lines – with more in the works – and 192 stations, including trains linking both of Bangkok’s international airports and the city center.

On top of this, taxis remain ubiquitous and cheap – though subject to the issues that make the city’s traffic so infamous – while quirky public transportation systems such as the city’s river and canal taxis provide a slow but steady (and scenic) way to get around.

Crime happens but it's rare

Thailand has a low crime rate and is generally considered a safe country. Bangkok suffers from the same type of violent crimes as any big city, but anecdotally, is considered a safe place. Apart from occasional bag snatching and theft, the most dangerous thing in the city is its traffic (Thailand’s roads are some of the deadliest of any country). Solo women travelers and locals I’ve spoken to also report feeling safe in the city.

A particular Bangkok annoyance is scams directed at tourists. These typically involve taxi drivers who refuse to use their meters, or tuk-tuk drivers and/or well-dressed, English-speaking men who appear out of nowhere offering free tours that inevitably lead to dodgy gem shops or tailors. The good news is that most of these situations are easy to spot and relatively low-pressure; if something seems off, simply walk away.

It’s also worth noting that Bangkok’s police don’t have a great reputation. Steer clear of them unless you really need help.

Street food isn’t the only good food

Western chefs and food media have been raving about Bangkok’s street food for more than a decade. And it’s a fun, often delicious way to eat. But if you relegated yourself to street food alone, you’d miss the entire scope of Bangkok’s cuisine.

Supplement those streetside noodles with meals at the charming, decades-old restaurants in the old town – these are the places that get the most praise in the Thai-language media. In Bangkok’s newer districts, such as along Thanon Sukhumvit, consider a Japanese meal – the city is home to one of the largest populations of Japanese people outside of Japan.

If your budget allows, consider a splurge restaurant. While the rest of the world was obsessing over its street food, Bangkok's dining scene went in the opposite direction and today is home to several modern, cutting-edge upscale restaurants.

Sometimes it's too hot to handle

Bangkok is one of the hottest capital cities in the world, with an average mean temperature of 29°C (84°F). This heat is compounded by intense humidity and the urban environment, which reflects and retains heat, meaning the city often feels much, much ( much ) hotter. April is Bangkok's hottest month, with an average daily max temperature of 35°C (96 ° F) and during the “winter” in December and January, temperatures rarely dip below 20°C (68°F).

All of this means you shouldn't try to cover too much ground on foot – an already difficult task given the city’s lack of pedestrian infrastructure. If you do walk, learn the technique of regularly ducking into air-conditioned malls, hotel lobbies and 7-Elevens to cool off.

Likewise, pack light clothing, but remember – Thais are conservative when it concerns showing skin in public and Bangkok is not the beach.

Bangkok is a queer-friendly city

LGBTIQ+ people are made to feel welcome in Bangkok, which is generally considered Asia’s most queer-friendly city. The epicenter of the gay scene is Thanon Silom, especially in and around Soi 4, which is ostensibly Asia’s biggest queer nightlife area.

Thankfully, it looks like this queer-friendly vibe will extend to legislation. In 2023, the Thai parliament passed draft bills on same-sex marriage, which are expected to become laws, making Thailand the first country in Southeast Asia to allow same-sex marriage.

Keep in mind that public displays of affection between people of any gender are frowned upon in Thailand.

There are better budget options than Khao San Road

If you want to be based in the world’s most famous backpacker strip – and all that that entails – book a bed or room on Thanon Khao San, generally known as Khao San Road. It’s lively and fun, and provides easy access to the city’s old town.

But having moved slightly upscale in recent decades, Khao San Road no longer represents the best value area to stay in Bangkok. And with loud bars and a boozy vibe, it’s definitely not the most peaceful place to stay.

If you want to have access to the backpacker amenities but don’t want the noise and hassle, consider staying in the streets nearby, such as Thanon Rambutri or Thanon Phra Athit.

Monsoon season brings sudden surprises

During the annual monsoon, from approximately May to October, Bangkok’s streets occasionally turn into rivers. During this time of year, don’t be surprised if you have to camp out on an elevated street corner or in a 7-Eleven until the waters recede.

Malls are part of city life

While shopping malls are a dying breed in much of the west, they’re thriving in Bangkok. The city is home to some of the most over-the-top shopping centers in the world, which in contemporary Bangkok, have a dual function as (conveniently air-conditioned) social centers. Thais gather at the city’s more than 500 shopping centers to chat, eat, take selfies and occasionally make purchases, and so should you.

Tourists spray water guns out of a tuk tuk on Khaosan Road during the Songkran festival

Bangkok essentially shuts down during the Thai New Year

Every year around April, Bangkok grinds to a halt during Thai New Year, known as Songkran or the water festival. The tradition has its origins in the cleansing role of water, but these days it essentially means that Bangkok becomes ground zero to a multi-day, raucous water battle.

Whether you're into it or not, you’ll be splashed with water and/or smeared with baby powder. Don’t even attempt stepping outside your door with your Sunday best on and don’t expect your favorite restaurant, or that museum or monument to be open (shopping centers, inevitably, will be operating). Discover more about Bangkok's festivals and seasonal attractions in our guide to the best time to visit the city .

Weed isn’t exactly legal in Bangkok

In June 2022, marijuana and hemp were removed from the Category 5 narcotics list in Thailand. However, there are still many restrictions and smoking marijuana in public is not legal and is not recommended.

Yes, there's a sex industry, but it's easy to avoid

“One Night in Bangkok” is indeed a reality. But if you steer clear of the main red-light zones at night – namely Thanon Patpong, Soi Nana and Soi Cowboy – it's likely you won’t even witness this side of the city.
