The band played most songs from Titanic Rising and a handful of songs from Front Row Seat to Earth. Bonus song during the encore was a Lou Reed cover! Such a heavenly voice attached to a super cool, kind person. So very glad to see Natalie getting the recognition she deserves-Titanic Rising is probably the AOTY for me, and there's still a few months of 2019 to go. After the show she came out after 10-15 minutes backstage and was really happy to engage with fans. I brought her a pair of handmade jewelry and a few days later she shouted me out on social media. Some interesting bits about this particular show in San Diego: Opener Dustin Wong was very unique- I had never seen someone sit onstage creating intricate soundscapes with pedals/guitar loops/etc. It was pretty avant garde and not really for me, but I appreciated his creativity and unique approach to music. Secondly- God, I really hate the Irenic as a venue even though it's for all ages shows and it's nice to have people under 21 to have a place to consistently see concerts. It got SO hot in there (never felt that before) and I felt like I was melting. It was nice that Soda Bar/Irenic management brought a ton of cold Yerba Mate to the venue for free, but I honestly would've appreciated water or some fans running.

All in all, despite melting into a sweaty puddle, what a great show.

Isis, by Bob Dylan was the song that played initially before adorning the stage and things regarding Weyes Blood all made sense. I adore this years release of Titanic Rising the current album from Natalie Mering aka Weyes Blood.

A lots gonna change, the opening track of said album was the opening track of the set, gorgeous in all its grandeur, made for the perfect set up to a beautifully harmonious concert. Her voice is amazing. She hit all the right notes. She alternated between tracks of her previous albums and the new one with seamless precision. Her on stage presence was sweet and adorable, engaging with the crowd between tracks. She covered Procol Harems a Whiter Shade of Pale near the end of the set which she sung beautifully. Finishing with a solo acoustic number called The Beginning, ironically.

She is lovely with a sublime voice. 10/10.

Natalie is from another world!

She has THE most beautiful voice I have ever had the privilege of hearing live, I was in tears for pretty much every song. WEYES BLOOD are mine and my wife’s favourite artist right now, but unfortunately my wife was unable to attend last nights show due to illness.

We have already purchased tickets for Natalie’s show in October..... I predict more tears.......double the amount!

Thank you for the music Natalie.

Much love from Neil and Kirsty xx

She was insane! So so great and the whole atmosphere, band, lights and effects was all incredible-one of the best artists I’ve ever seen live!!! As the show went on she just got better and better and more into it, the vocals were great as well as her stage presence and set list.

She's brilliant. I could listen to her sing all day. She started with the heavenly 'Take You There' and then continued to leave the crowd breathless for the rest of her set which included a great cover of Lou Reeds 'Perfect Day'. Looking forward to the next time she's in town.

Amazing voice and band is so cohesive, venue was perfect for her style. The lights were awesome too and really well done. The Rialto was perfect for her vibe and the order of the set list flowed really well. Obviously « movies » was over the top amazing as per usual.

Natalie Mering/Weyes Blood is probably one of the best live singers I have ever seen. There is never anything less than pure magic that leaves her mouth. The whole band is very talented and puts on a great show. Also, their covers are THE best.

Absolutely sublime performance. Weyes Blood touched the audience with a marvelous "repertoire". She is a sexy genius artist.

Absolute voice control and chemistry that perhaps spread out some feelings that audience can't forget too soon.

Great show that proved quite flawless at the Phoenix Concert Theater. Weyes Blood is a wonderful musician that can connect with the audience through great music and a little onstage talk. Hope to see her again.

So great! Funny, loud, intimate, fun and awesome. My girlfriend had barely even heard them and she really enjoyed it too. I've been wanting to see them for a long time so I was very excited and they delivered.

Weyes Blood announces new album and tour, shares “It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody”

The new album lands in november..

Weyes Blood has confirmed details of new album And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow , due November 18. Natalie Mering's follow-up to 2019's Titanic Rising is accompanied by new song “It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody.” Stream that below, where you can also find a raft of upcoming In Holy Flux Tour dates running into 2023.

Mering co-produced And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow with Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado and Rodaidh McDonald. Guests on the album include Meg Duffy (Hand Habits) Mary Lattimore, and, Daniel Lopatin a.k.a. Oneohtrix Point Never.

In a statement shared alongside the album announcement, Mering explained that: " Titanic Rising was the first album of three in a special trilogy. It was an observation of things to come, the feelings of impending doom. And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow is about entering the next phase, the one in which we all find ourselves today — we are literally in the thick of it. Feeling around in the dark for meaning in a time of instability and irrevocable change. Looking for embers where fire used to be. Seeking freedom from algorithms and a destiny of repetitive loops. Information is abundant and yet so abstract in its use and ability to provoke tangible actions. Our mediums of communication are fraught with caveats. Our pain, an ironic joke born from a gridlocked panopticon of our own making, swirling on into infinity.

Weyes Blood's “In Holy Flux Tour,” a headlining international tour in support of And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow , begins in the U.K. and EU in January. The North American leg kicks off February 22 in Nashville. See below for dates.

And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow tracklist:

“It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody” “Children Of The Empire” “Grapevine” “God Turn Me Into A Flower” “Hearts Aglow” “And In The Darkness” "Twin Flame” “In Holy Flux” “The Worst Is Done” “A Given Thing”

Weyes Blood Announces The New Album ‘And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow,’ Along With 2023 Tour Dates

Adrian Spinelli

When Weyes Blood’s Natalie Mering released her breakthrough 2019 album, Titanic Rising , it was meant to be the first in a three-part trilogy of albums. Now the trilogy will have it’s second installment, with the announcement of the next Weyes Blood album, And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow .

Due out on November 18th, the new album was produced by Mering along with Jonathan Rado of Foxygen and Rodaidh McDonald. It will feature appearances from Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy, Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin , and harpist Mary Lattimore. Where Titanic Rising was about “impending doom,” And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow is about finding a way out of a world that has become increasingly dictated by technological whim. Mering explained in a letter to fans, that the gorgeously flowing lead single, “It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody,” is a, “Buddhist anthem, ensconced in the interconnectivity of all beings, and the fraying of our social fabric.”

Weyes Blood Letter

Along with the single. Weyes Blood has also announced the In Holy Flux Tour for 2023, as well as an additional LA stop in 2022.

Relight the fire … Twilight in Concert.

‘Surrounded by the beauty of a thousand candles’: why Twilight is going live, loud and on tour

The Kristen Stewart / Robert Pattinson vampire romantasy is back and supported by rock and classical musicians – just the latest film to be granted the mysterious live concert treatment

T he first Twilight film was released 16 years ago and, for many of us, the franchise has long since lost any sense of currency. Without the white heat of fandom surrounding their release, watching the Twilight films today is like trying to watch an echo. It’s like finding a fidget spinner in the street and trying to remember why everyone loved them so much. Without the heft of the cultural phenomenon that surrounded their release, the Twilight films now come off as witless and inert. They feel like TV movies, like a cheap Netflix acquisition dumped into a submenu without fanfare.

And this is to be expected. New films are released all the time, and only a tiny percentage of them are ever destined to be fondly remembered. And yet maybe we wrote Twilight off too soon. Yes, the film’s stars – Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart – have spent their subsequent careers making knotty and uncommercial films, apparently as a direct reaction to starring in such toothless teenybop fare. Yes, it’s spoken about so rarely these days that its popularity feels like the result of a mass psychogenic illness, like the dancing plagues of the middle ages. Yes, it seems absurd that they actually made five of the things.

But it is clear that a sizeable core of Twilight fans have never fully let go of the dream. It has just been announced that the Twilight films are going on a UK tour, backed by a 12-piece band of rock and classical musicians. And this isn’t some two-bit pub circuit gig, either. Twilight will be playing, “surrounded by the beauty of a thousand candles”, at the Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and the Hammersmith Apollo. These are big rooms to fill, and there cannot be many people who might casually flick through a listings magazine and spontaneously decide to spend the evening watching people play along to a film about an ancient hair-gelled vampire licking his lips at a schoolgirl. No, there is a hardcore Twilight fandom here, and their numbers are many.

Who can say why. Perhaps, after a decade and a half of being dumped into the wilderness, the culture is starting to come around to Twilight again. After all, one of the biggest trends in publishing at the moment is “romantasy”, a portmanteau of “romance” and “fantasy”, in which a lovelorn heroine invariably finds herself drawn to a boy so bad that, in some cases, he recently murdered her entire family. And isn’t this Twilight all over? Doesn’t “romantasy” share a core DNA with a story about your boyfriend doing the best he can to not drain you of all your blood?

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the first Twilight film (2008).

Maybe this is just another way to enhance the viewing experience. With theatrical moviegoing on the decline, perhaps it makes sense to appeal to people’s nostalgia by enhancing a movie that they love with live music. There’s certainly a lot of it going around. This year alone, at the Royal Albert Hall alone, the London Symphony Orchestra will be playing along to Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ghostbusters, Top Gun: Maverick, Home Alone, Avatar and the movie adaptation of the second half of the last Harry Potter book.

Indeed, the company Film Concerts Live perpetually tours the world doing exactly this, playing along to films as beloved as Jurassic Park and as forgotten as Star Trek Into Darkness. Sifting through their upcoming performances, it’s clear that the film concert industry seems to heavily lean on the highly melodic and instantly recognisable work of John Williams, so perhaps there is something to be said for the experience of hearing an iconic piece of music in the flesh. That said, could you hum the incidental music from Twilight? Could you hum it if someone had a gun to your head? I’m not sure I could.

Or perhaps I’m just being a mopey old grump and people should just be allowed to like the things they like. The people who liked Twilight as teenagers when it came out are now full-blown adults, with jobs and partners and responsibilities. There’s realistically no difference between going to watch a band play along with the music of Twilight as a 34-year-old and going to see a Take That concert as a 45-year-old. Times are hard and the pull of nostalgia is strong, so who am I to begrudge anyone from cheering themselves up however they want? Just, please, nobody invite me along.

WEYES BLOOD: IN HOLY FLUX TOUR: UNLEASHED with special guest Nick Hakim at The Vogue in Indianapolis on Tuesday, August 29, 2023!

Transcendent and sometimes wistful, the folk-pop of Weyes Blood (a.k.a. LA-based Natalie Mering) explores everything that drives us, divides us, and destroys us. This sounds like heavy stuff, but Mering is an effortless guide. Though burdened by doubt, she is also buoyed by hope — her music unfurling with stunning nuance and ease.

“Bob Seger meets Enya” is how she once described her work. When you consider Weyes Blood’s otherworldly expansiveness and hook-laden melodies, you realize that she isn’t exaggerating. Weyes Blood’s breakout album on Sub Pop, Titanic Rising (named one of 2019’s best by Pitchfork, NPR, The Guardian), was an observation of doom to come. Its follow up, And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow, finds her in the thick of it, searching for an escape hatch, away from algorithms and ideological chaos. After five albums and years of touring, Mering has a lot on her mind.

Mering grew up singing in gospel and madrigal choirs, before prodigiously picking up guitar at age 8. That — mingled with her love of jazz, filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky, and scholar Joseph Campbell — has shaped her music, which tells stories of both ancient and modern myths. Why, you ask? Because, she says, “Shared myths are part of our psychology and survival.”

And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow is out November 18th, 2022.

It was a sort of homecoming for singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield, who performs under the moniker of Waxahatchee, when she played at New York's Brooklyn Paramount Saturday night. About 15 years ago, she lived in the borough of Brooklyn. “I worked at a little coffee shop,” she recalled to the packed audience, “and I'd put the first Waxahatchee album on. It wasn't out yet and I would sort of gauge people's reaction to it. It was mixed reviews, you know. But if you'd told me then that I would be here now, I wouldn't have believed you.”

Crutchfield has come a long way since those early days as each subsequent Waxahatchee release has garnered both critical acclaim and a substantial following— culminating with 2020's much-lauded Saint Cloud and her 2022 collaborative album with Jess Williamson, I Walked With You a Ways , as the duo Plains. With a sound that hearkens Lucinda Williams and other alt-country pioneers, the singer eloquently and effectively conveys the (romantic) trials and tribulations of the heart.

Last month, Crutchfield returned with another winning record, Tigers Blood , which is a continuation of the musical style mined on Saint Cloud . Talking about a recurring theme of the record, she told writer Ilana Kaplan in a recent Vogue interview:

“Something that kept coming up on this record was the friend breakup. [It’s] really common when you reach a certain age, where you have friendships that have developed over a long period of time, and you naturally diverge into different paths. Those relationships can be frustrating, and as emotionally taxing as a breakup. So I wanted to incorporate that. The whole record is a snapshot. It’s like, What’s present for me right now? And that was one of the things that felt really present for me right now.”

Tigers Blood was indeed the focus of her latest show of her current tour as she and her band (which included Spencer Tweedy on drums) performed practically all of that album's songs at the newly restored Brooklyn Paramount—starting off the 90-minute with “3 Sisters” and followed by other singles/standouts from the new album including “Right Back to It,” the title song, “Bored” and “365.” In addition to Tigers Blood , a good amount of the set also included cuts from the Saint Cloud album like as the heartfelt “Can't Do Much” the twangy rocker “Hell,” and the lovely “Lilacs,” along with tracks from Plains’s album (“Line of Sight” and “Hurricane” among them).

Google Issues ‘Critical’ Chrome Update For All Windows Users

New ios 18 ai security move changes the game for all iphone users, world war i tactics make a comeback as a ukrainian gunner in the back of a propeller plane shoots down a russian drone.

During the encore, Waxahatchee concluded the evening with a rousing performance of “Fire,” also from Saint Cloud , whose lyrics — “If I could love you unconditionally/I could iron out the edges of the darkest sky/For some of us it ain't enough” —seems to encapsulate what Waxahatchee's music is all about: life and love are both sweet and challenging.

Accompanied by her top-notch band, Crutchfield was in peak form throughout the show with her wistful yet resonant voice and earnest persona. Judging by the audience's exuberant reaction, her career path to playing a big stage like the newly opened Brooklyn Paramount (and she will again at New York's esteemed Beacon Theatre in August) is very believable and deserved.

Waxahatchee's world tour continues through September 8.
