Steelers' Russell Wilson trains with Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh receivers ahead of OTAs

Wilson isn't wasting any time in pittsburgh.

Russell Wilson is off and running with the Pittsburgh Steelers . 

Instead of waiting for OTAs to get started, Wilson and several of his new teammates recently worked out together in San Diego. Wilson trained and worked through routes with Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth  and receivers Calvin Austin III and Van Jefferson , who like Wilson was signed by Pittsburgh this offseason. 

"Obviously, I'm very excited for Russ to be part of the team," Freiermuth told Around The 412 . "He's been great at talking to guys and starting to build that connection. He's a great guy. You can tell the drive and determination that he has to win and come to Pittsburgh and win some playoff games for us." 

Freiermuth's assessment of Wilson echoes what defensive captain Cameron Heyward recently said of the nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback. It's clear, based on their comments, that Wilson is clearly motivated to show that he is still a top-tier player following a disappointing two-year stint with the Denver Broncos . 

"You just look for the leadership for a guy that has been in Seattle and won games,"  Heyward recently said  on The Rich Eisen Show. "Won a  Super Bowl  already. Didn't have the best time in Denver, but I think he's a hungry guy that is ready to prove people wrong. 

"We have so many great weapons. Some of them are younger. Having a more established guy who has been through it is going to benefit the group."

Like Heyward, former Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt is hoping Wilson and fellow quarterback Justin Fields can help the Steelers snap their seven-year drought without a playoff win. 

"I'm excited for both of them,"  Watt recently told FOX4 Kansas City . "To be able to have some big time new faces and guys who have played at a high level -- especially Russ, a guy who's won a  Super Bowl  -- in the locker room. I'm just hoping that I can learn something from those guys and hopefully, show them how things are done in Pittsburgh as well, what we've been doing. 

"I haven't won a playoff game my whole career, so I'm open to any type of information, where we can continue to get better. Hopefully, those guys can help us do that."

Along with getting a chance to work out with Wilson, Freiermuth also got a chance to work with Jefferson, who comes to Pittsburgh after helping the Rams win the Super Bowl two years ago. Freiermuth liked what he saw. 

"Van's a big dude," Freiermuth said of Jefferson, a former second-round pick who caught six touchdowns during the Rams' Super Bowl season. "He's physical. ... He attacks the ball. He's going to be really good for our locker room."

Gary Wilson may have progressed to face China’s Zhang Anda in a best-of-19 frames quarter-final but he, too, was frustrated by his cueing action.

The North East cueist hit a century of 101 in frame seven but received a warning by the ref for whacking the table for missing a red to the middle pocket in the 15th frame.

I don’t know how I won that. I’m thankful that Mark didn’t play very well. I was embarrassing to be honest. The cue action wasn’t there on day one. I felt deep down all along I was struggling cueing-wise. Just tried plugging away. I was not cueing very well. I can score when that is happening. It felt bad. That’s why I missed so many balls. Gave him so many lifelines. I’m not enjoying it. If I had played decent and Mark played as badly as he did, I should have won 10-3 or 10-4. It was that bad it came very close. Mark Selby has threatened to quit professional snooker if he replicates the “pathetic” form he showed in his Tour Championship exit.

The Leicester Jester was eliminated 10-8 by Gary Wilson in a low-quality first-round tie in Manchester in the penultimate event of the season.

The four-time world snooker champion, who has had battles with mental health down the years, was angry and crestfallen by his display over two days of play.

And Selby, 40, vowed to hang up his cue for good if he does not rediscover his mojo when the World Championship takes place at the Crucible this month.

No, I don’t think so. I mean I was pathetic really, from start to finish. Probably one of the worst games I’ve played as a professional. Definitely up there for sure. If I carry on playing like that, then yeah, I won’t be enjoying it and I will be choosing a different career for sure. Neither of us played great in the second session, Gary played well on Monday and deserved his 5-3 lead. Today neither of us played great. I was like that all match. I deserved to lose. I will give the World Championship a go, but if I keep playing like that, I’m not going to carry on. 100 per cent, I have always said in interviews before, when it gets to the point that I’m not enjoying it, then it doesn’t matter where I am in the world rankings, I will be hanging up cue up. Luca Brecel has opened up about his car towing hell.

The former world snooker champion teamed up with Reanna Evans to beat Mark Selby and Rebecca Kenna 4-2 to win the World Mixed Doubles final on Sunday.

But that day started off in nightmare fashion after his car was towed.

Brecel  told ITV: “I parked my car in the wrong place and it got taken away, so I had to go and get it just before the final and then just about made it back in time.

“Crazy story. But luckily, I made it in time.”

The Belgian is known for his lavish car collection and often buys himself a luxury car as a treat.

As mentioned in our Gameplay Showcase Centre Court Report, TopSpin 2K25 picks up where Top Spin 4 left off in terms of gameplay and animation quality. One of the first things you’ll notice when you see or play TopSpin 2K25 is that we’ve added a lot of new signature-style animations for the players’ serves, forehands, backhands and return idles. In this Xbox Wire article, we’ll share an insight into the types of signature animations that are featured in TopSpin 2K25 , before showcasing how we at Hangar 13 created these animations: from analyzing players to Motion Capture, all the way through to animation.

When playing TopSpin 2K25 , tennis fans will certainly notice the attention to detail on some of their favorite players’ animations. For example, you’ll be able to recognize Roger Federer’s stylish backhand, Serena William’s devastating serve, or Iga Swiatek’s powerful forehand animation, just to name a few. In addition to these animations that aim at recreating the unique style of specific pros, we also captured a variety of animations that can be shared by multiple pros with similar swinging motions. Players can also use their 2K Account to add signature-styles to their MyPlayers to make them customizable, not only visually, but also in the way they move and hit the ball.

Some signature styles will be available immediately at launch, so you can begin working on your playstyle right away. We will also be adding new signature-style animations with each new Season. Players can use virtual currency to get some of their favorite signature-styles from the Pro Shop and additional styles will be available to unlock via the Premium Centre Court Pass (available for additional purchase). By the end of Season 6, TopSpin 2K25 will have over 2x the amount of signature styles featured in TopSpin 4 .

Now, we’re excited to share with you a sneak peek into the processes involved in adding these new signature styles in the game. The first step is to look at the players we have in our roster and to identify which ones have a truly unique or recognizable style for either their serve, forehand, backhand, or return idle, and to capture video references of each. Then, we create what we call a “shot list” for motion capture, which is a list of individual animations we want to capture with our athlete/actor/actress. For example, each forehand or backhand style consists of a total of nine individual animations that can play based on the height of the ball or the direction and speed of the player before hitting the ball.

Once the shot list is finalized, we’re ready to move on to the mocap stage and start capturing all these new animations. On the day of the shoot, we get Hangar 13’s mocap crew, animators, and designers together, our team of semi-pro tennis players suited up in that pretty cool-looking mocap suit to serve as our actors and actresses, and we’re ready to go. We show our actor/actress the motion we would like to capture and watch the video references with them to identify all the key poses and elements that make this motion unique. When the actor/actress is ready, they start practicing the motion to get a better feel for it, and then we record it, replay it on the monitor on the mocap stage, and compare it with the video reference. We repeat that until we’re happy with the result and it looks close enough to the reference.

With both Roger Federer and Serena Williams, we were able to spend time with them on the motion capture stage and record their actual serves, forehands, backhands, and return idles, so the final result in the game is even closer to their real style.

After the data is captured and processed by the technicians of the mocap stage it goes to the animators who apply the data to a male or female character. At this stage the animation still looks very rough, so the animators clean up all the posing, making sure that it doesn’t look broken, but also that it looks as close as possible to the style of the pro player! The animators also make sure that it adheres to the specifications, like making sure that the racket hits the ball at the expected height, or that it’s oriented properly during the swinging motion based on the type of swing. The data from the mocap includes the motion of the racket, but it does not include any motion on the fingers, so the animators spend quite a bit of time making sure the hands and fingers are properly gripping the racket.

Once the animation has had a first pass, it’s exported and checked in the engine on the pro player it was created for and that’s when we truly see everyone’s efforts come to life for the first time! The animation gets implemented and reviewed by designers in-game, after which there’s often a round of feedback and the animations are polished even further.

Truly a lot of care and attention to detail went into the animations, from start to finish. We’re eager for you to see the level of authenticity and realism present in TopSpin 2K25 — Rally On!

Rebel Wilson Was Willing ‘To Give Up’ Career to Follow Female Tennis Player ‘Situationship’ on Tour

Rebel Wilson finally understood what “real love” felt like — and not just in a tennis context — when she dated a female tennis star.

“It was like a roller-coaster,” Wilson, 44, told People in an interview published on Wednesday, March 27, about their “situationship” with naming her past partner. “Sometimes, when I was dating men, people would even comment. They’re like, ‘God, Rebel, you can take them or leave them. You weren’t that ever invested.’”

Wilson noted that she “felt so invested” in her relationship with the athlete and was willing to “give up [her] career” for the tennis star.

“[I] even thought at one point, ‘Oh, I could give up my career for this person, travel around the world on the tennis circuit,’” Wilson recalled to People . “I describe it as cracking open my heart. Like you could open a fresh can of tennis balls … that’s what it did to me. And, I guess, when I saw people write love songs or poetry about love, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s nice.’ But I don’t think I’d ever understood that until I felt that for a person.”

Wilson further revealed that her romance with the tennis star was the first time she felt “real feelings” and was open to intimacy with a partner.

The Pitch Perfect actress, who details her past romance with the pro athlete in her forthcoming Rebel Rising memoir, publicly came out in June 2022. At the time, Wilson revealed via Instagram that she found love with designer Ramona Agruma .

“Rebel is very happy all around — in her new relationship, with her body and her career,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly one month later in July 2022. “Even though she wasn’t completely ready to come out to the whole world [last month], she’s glad she did and that she was the one to share something so personal to her. [It’s] been a huge weight off of her shoulder that she doesn’t have to keep it a secret anymore. She’s relieved that she can share photos and these happy moments with her fans.”

Mark Selby threatens to quit snooker after 'pathetic' defeat to Gary Wilson in Tour Championship

Four-time world champion Mark Selby threatened to quit snooker after losing in the Tour Championship to Gary Wilson, who also described his winning performance as "embarrassing".

Wilson sealed a 10-8 victory with a clearance of 105, but both players were scathing about their performance in Manchester.

"I mean I was pathetic really, from start to finish," Selby told ITV4 . "Probably one of the worst games I've played as a professional. Definitely up there for sure.

"If I carry on playing like that, then yeah, I won't be enjoying it and I will be choosing a different career for sure.

"Neither of us played great in the second session, Gary played well on Monday and deserved his 5-3 lead. Today neither of us played great. I was like that all match. I deserved to lose.

"I will give the World Championship a go, but if I keep playing like that, I'm not going to carry on."

Wilson believes he will have to improve ahead of his quarter-final against Zhang Anda, telling ITV4 : "I don't know how I won to be honest. I'm just thankful Mark didn't play very well because I was embarrassing.

"The cue action wasn't even there yesterday - it may have looked a bit better but I just felt deep down all along, I was struggling. I was hitting everything really quick and snatchy and just tried to keep plugging away."

Reminded that he had made breaks of 95, 98, 78 and 101 in taking a 5-3 lead from Monday's opening session and must therefore have been cueing well, Wilson replied: "Incorrect.

"I was not cueing very well at all but I can score when I'm not cueing well. That was feeling really bad and it was feeling even worse today and that's why I missed so many easy balls, gave him so many chances and lifelines.

"Really, if I'd been playing decent and Mark had played as bad as he did there, I should have won that 10-3, 10-4. It was that bad it became really close and I'm just thankful he didn't play very well either.

"I'm not enjoying it but we go again on Thursday and I'm just hoping I can find something between now and then."
