Expert Review: Adriatic Odyssey Cruise

AdventureSmith Explorations Founder and President Todd Smith reviews his Adriatic Odyssey Mediterranean small ship cruise  aboard the  Panorama . Read on for his expert review and photos.

When I explained to family and friends that I was taking the family on a cruise in Croatia, I received two consistent responses. The first was awe and wonder from people who had been or had heard from someone who had traveled to Croatia. The second response was shock and concern, primarily from people who misunderstood the region’s history or mistook its proximity to eastern European trouble spots. In the end Croatia has become my new favorite country in Europe.

Adriatic Odyssey Review

The Adriatic Odyssey is a cruise back in time to ancient sites and cities only reachable by small ship. Highlighting much more diversity than most Mediterranean cruises the voyage begins in Dubrovnik and includes visits to Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Greece. Ancient cities, sites and culture dates back centuries and small ports remain much as they have been for hundreds of years.

Croatia Pre Cruise Extension

Traveling with my wife and two young sons we first explored Croatia’s interior including castles in the Zagorje region and the spectacular waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes National Park. Our five night tour ended in Dubrovnik where we would board the Panorama for our Adriatic Odyssey cruise. It is advisable to arrive Dubrovnik at least one or two days prior to the cruise and one could easily spend more time in this historic medieval port walled city.

Embarkation in Dubrovnik

Our ship, the Panorama, was easy to find among the mega ships dominating the waterfront. Dubrovnik’s main cruise ship dock and ferry terminal are located in Gruz Harbor, 2.5 miles from the old walled city. Our private driver had a special permit to proceed onto the dock and delivered us right to the Panorama’s gangway. Those arriving by taxi or bus must walk up to a quarter mile to the embarkation point, depending on the location of the ship which can vary each week.

Panorama small ship docked in port of Dubrovnik Croatia next to a larger cruise ship.

After checking in to our upper deck cabins at 3pm we had a couple of hours to explore before returning to the ship for dinner and a welcome orientation.  Our enthusiastic cruise director Ninna welcomed us and got everyone excited with an orientation and review of our itinerary that would span 2500 years of history and four countries including Croatia, Greece, Albania and Montenegro. Many guests were from other parts of Europe while some came from as far away as Australia, Mexico and the United States. During a welcome dinner we were introduced to Captain George and his crew, largely hailing from Greece. The Panorama then stayed in Dubrovnik overnight providing guests a chance to enjoy the nightlife.

We departed Dubrovnik before sunrise and several guests arrived on deck to experience the departure. The city lights faded and we were now cruising the Adriatic Sea. Those who remained on deck were treated to a beautiful sunrise framed by the dramatic white sails of the Panorama. A perfect way to begin our Mediterranean cruise.

Our first day found us on deck watching scenic islands and towns slowly cruise by. The captain had lowered the sails because the wind was now blowing the wrong direction and we had a schedule to keep. The ship eased into a turquoise blue cove surrounded by rolling hills and white sand beaches. The crew lowered the anchor and dropped a few kayaks for our first swim stop.  The water was cooler than we expected, but not cold (about 70 degrees). The ship provided snorkel gear and guests hopped off the swim step and into the Mediterranean. Of course my kids were thrilled this was our first stop.

Guests from small ship cruise kayaking in Korcula, Croatia.

As we returned from our swim the waters were becoming increasing choppy. By the time we reached Korcula the wind was blowing, the boat was rocking and dark skies were pouring rain. The walking tour was cancelled but our guide came aboard and gave a great talk about the history of Korcula, purported to be the birthplace of Marco Polo. The town is famous for its 6 th  century building codes, architecture and design that lets the sun warm in winter and keeps the breezes cooling in summer. We gladly accepted the umbrellas offered by the crew and headed into town.  Walking the narrow streets of this ancient walled city was like walking back in time and despite the rain we knew we had arrived at the Mediterranean we had come to see.

Back on board by dinner and it was raining even harder. The Captain prepared us for a night of rough seas and he advised that our itinerary may change tomorrow, depending on the weather. After a very rough night the boat finally settled down in the early morning and we awoke calmly approaching the dock, back in Dubrovnik. A fierce storm with 60 knot winds made the trip to Bar, Montenegro uncomfortable at best and unsafe at worst. Breezy conditions are common during Mediterranean summers but winds this strong are rare the captain advised me. The guests heartily agreed at the decision to return to Dubrovnik and we spent the morning exploring on our own.

Back to Dubrovnik

We walked from the dock to the city center and after a beautiful quiet stroll along the water and among picturesque narrow alleys we were shocked at the mid-day crowds at Pile Gate, the entrance to Dubrovnik’s old town. We made our way into the ancient city without rush knowing we would spend three nights here after the cruise. By afternoon the sun was out and we were relaxing on deck cruising south to Albania.

Couple from small ship cruise in Dubrovnik.

Because of the weather the remainder of our itinerary varies from the posted itinerary. We would visit Saranda, Albania, then Corfu, Greece then Paxos Island and back to Corfu before resuming the normal itinerary in Kotor, Montenegro on the last day.  We missed the visit to Bar, Montenegro entirely.

Albania & Butrint National Park

As we approached Saranda, Albania I knew this would not be an ordinary cruise stop. I had little idea what to expect and confess that I had to read the guidebook the night before to have any sense of the place and its history. Saranda itself is a congregation of colorful concrete and glass mini high-rises catering to European beachgoers. The architecture seemed to struggle to break free from years of communist dictatorship but the town also exuded a sense of opportunity and hope for a better future. We joined the optional excursion to the ancient, excavated city of Butrint National Park, a UNESCO World heritage site.  Butrint’s history spans two thousand years and features a spectacular amphitheater, a Venetian town, a roman bath house, a Christian basilica, exquisite mosaic floors and an early 6 th  century baptistery with columns holding an array of beautiful statues which are now housed in the parks museum. Our guide Dimirti was a wealth of knowledge and very entertaining. Because we knew so little and had no expectations this was one of the stops we enjoyed the most.

Corfu, Greece

Back on board we cruised a short distance to Corfu, Greece. The approach to Corfu is amazing with dozens of scenic islands housing beautiful architecture. Corfu (Kerkyra) town is dominated by Paleo Frourio and Neo Frourio, old and new forts, with huge walls and high towers over crowded red roofs and church minarets that are unmistakable as you approach from the sea. The busy cruise ship port is located a short cab ride from the historic city center.

After dinner on board many guests shared taxis into Corfu town. The old town was beautifully lit up at night. Shops, cafes and street artisans were busy with tourists and locals alike. Corfu, it is said, is where local Greeks gather and tourists come to watch them.

Paxos Island, Greece

The next morning we were on our way to tiny Paxos island, a quaint sleepy place dotted with picturesque seaside fishing villages. As we walked from the dock into town we saw several fishermen on colorful boats working their nets and unloading the morning catch. Not surprisingly it was also here that we began to notice the abundance of cats in this part of Europe. It seemed the town was frozen in time and life remained much as it has for hundreds of years. After an hour walk and a relaxing coffee overlooking the harbor we still could not find any other travelers beside those from our boat.

Back to Corfu

Returning to Corfu the captain anchored in another postcard beautiful cove for a swim stop. Calm water and a relaxed pace ensured everyone had their fill of swimming, snorkeling and kayaking before we continued to Corfu. Again we had time to explore on our own. We challenged ourselves with the climb up the old fort. The views were spectacular with sunset over Corfu town on one side and green islands of the Mediterranean on the other. Even though dinner was served on board we chose to dine in town and enjoyed one of our favorite meals of the trip. We returned to the Panorama in time for a performance of traditional Greek dancing. By the time it was over even Captain George was showing off his moves.

The next day should have been a guided tour of Corfu, but with all the changes to our itinerary the tour was not possible. Since we had already explored Corfu town we rented a tiny car to explore the rest of Corfu Island. First stop was the grandiose Palace Achillion. Built in 1890 by the Empress of Austria the hilltop palace features splendid views, pleasant gardens and a vast collection of art, furniture and sculptures.

A beautiful drive across the island led us to Gordios Beach, a crescent of golden sand guarded by towering sea stacks overlooking turquoise blue water. The beach was predictably busy this time of year with rows of lounges and umbrellas for rent. A relaxing beach day was a nice break to the history and culture of the trip thus far. And we enjoyed the best beachside gyros of our lives.

Bay of Kotor

On the last day we finally resumed the scheduled itinerary arriving in Kotor, Montegro which is another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Like, Albania I knew little about Kotor but it blew me away. The bay of Kotor is similar to a Norwegian fjord with high walls and narrow waterways, except that Kotor is lined with picturesque Mediterranean towns, churches and ancient armaments. Just when you think you have arrived the ship turns another corner and another tiny walled city appears.  Finally you arrive at the end of the bay where the walled town of Kotor seems to crawl straight up the mountainside.

With a full day in Kotor we had plenty of time to explore. Ninna advised which sights would complement the optional guided walking tour so we set out to explore the churches, museums and a street so narrow only one person could fit. The guided tour was excellent and her insights helped us fit Montenegro into the context of the Balkans region we have been exploring. After the tour we climbed 1350 steps to the crumbling fortifications that once protected the city. The views were incredible.

Goodbye Adriatic

After the Captain’s dinner we returned through the Sea Gate to explore the town at night. As we sat atop the walls overlooking the town and our ship, we reflected on the incredible journey we had just completed. The Adriatic Odyssey took us to four countries and history spanning thousands of years. It was a wonderful introduction to this region, its people and history.

We had thought this trip might be too dry for our kids, but in the end they loved it. We rarely altered our travel style because of them and having them along helped break down cultural barriers with locals. Because they incorporated this trip into their schoolwork we received additional educational experiences that we might have otherwise missed. I highly recommend this region for family travel.

Our final morning found us back in Dubrovnik where we said farewell to the Captain, Ninna, the crew and our fellow passengers. Most made their way to the airport while some, like us, stayed in Dubrovnik for a few more days.

Panorama Ship Review

The Panorama is a modern two masted sailing ship that is 164 feet long and accommodates up to 49 guests. We had the only two A category cabins that are located on the upper deck and have view windows. We found the cabins lovely although when the lounge was busy (which it was a couple of nights) we could hear it. In retrospect, as a family, we would have preferred an A cabin on the Main deck where kids do not have to walk through the lounge to get from one room to another. The remaining A cabins are on the Main deck while less expensive category B and C cabins are found on the lower deck. Many cabins can convert from twin to double beds and all cabins have a window/porthole, air conditioning, private bath with shower, TB, telephone, hairdryer, mini safe and mini fridge. Power on board is 220v, so bring a European adapter.

The service aboard has a European flare and the crew is a mix of Greek seamen, professional small ship crew from around the world and hotel staff from Southeast Asia.  All speak English and getting to know them was a highlight of the trip. Ninna, the cruise director who is from Croatia, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She relied on a bevy of excellent local guides in each port. On board programs focused on preparing us for our port visits to ancient sites and recapping our experiences after dinner.

Meals are hearty with lots of choices highlighting many local delicacies.  Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style while dinner is an elegant five course event that always had a meat, fish or vegetarian option. While the food on board was good, our most memorable meals were when we ate ashore in the various towns.

Our guide will also tell us some interesting facts about other attractions we will visit during the visit. Cruise to Omis, the city with ancient walls, fortresses, and stone churches. Continue across the Brac Channel to Pucisca. This spectacular irregularity of the steep-sided natural harbour, authentic Mediterranean architecture, and rustic ambience is simply unforgettable. Stone from the Pucisca quarry was used to build limestone columns of the White House in Washington, DC, the Vienna Parliament, and many other famous buildings worldwide. Overnight in Pucisca.

The 3 types of Seabourn cruise ships, explained

MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

Among cruise lines that focus on high-priced luxury trips, Seabourn has one of the simplest fleets.

All the line’s ships fall into one of three groups: The Encore-class ocean ships, the Odyssey-class ocean ships and the expedition ships (which Seabourn has not given a class name).

Each of these groups is made up of ships constructed around the same time to the same basic design. If you know one member of the group, you know them all.

Seabourn operates seven vessels — two Encore-class ships, three Odyssey-class ships and two expedition ships. That number is set to drop by one in 2024 when one of the Odyssey-class vessels leaves the Seabourn fleet .

Here, we explain the distinctive features of Seabourn’s three ship classes, so you can plan the luxury cruise that’s right for you.

An introduction to Seabourn ships

Seabourn is one of about half a dozen major cruise lines that compete in the market for “ultra-luxury” cruises — voyages that promise a high level of elegance and pampering and have a high price tag to match. The company, which debuted in 1988, claims to have pioneered the niche.

Like all such brands, Seabourn operates ships that are far smaller and more intimate than the giant floating megaresorts operated by Royal Caribbean , Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival Cruise Line . Instead of thousands of passengers, each Seabourn vessel is designed to hold a few hundred people.

Still, while the ships are smaller than what you’ll find at a mass-market line, they’re not cramped. Indeed, they’re among the most spacious ships at sea when measured by their space-per-passenger ratio, which is about 50% higher than what you’ll find on many mass-market ships. They also operate at a nearly one-to-one ratio of staff to passengers — one of the highest levels in the cruise business.

Both space-per-passenger ratios and staff-to-passenger ratios are measurements used as shorthand for the luxury level of a vessel.

Seabourn ships also offer such luxury touches as marinas for water-based play when the vessels are anchored in calm and sunny locales.

Related: The 8 best luxury cruise lines for elegance and exclusivity

Every cabin is a suite, and the number of restaurants, bars and lounges is impressive for vessels of this size.

Two of the line’s three types of ships — the Encore class and Odyssey class — are similar in design. The main difference between the two is that the Encore-class ships are bigger. They essentially are Odyssey-class ships with an additional deck for extra suites and public areas.

As a result, the Encore-class ships can hold 600 passengers, based on double occupancy, while the Odyssey-class ships are designed to carry up to 458 passengers.

The third and newest class of Seabourn ships, the expedition ships (Seabourn doesn’t use a formal class name for these vessels) are much smaller ships specifically built for expedition cruising — a type of adventure-focused cruising that involves visiting hard-to-reach and off-the-beaten-path places such as Antarctica and the Arctic.

Expedition ships are designed to hold 264 passengers, based on double occupancy.

Seabourn ships aren’t as big or opulent as the luxury vessels operated by some of its competitors, most notably Regent Seven Seas Cruises (which mostly markets vessels carrying 700 to 750 passengers). The line offers a more subdued, intimate sort of luxury. If it’s soaring spaces loaded with pricey marble and crystal chandeliers you’re after, Seabourn may not be for you. However, if you prize intimacy and elegance without a lot of showiness, Seabourn ships could be a good choice.

Encore Class

Ships in class: Seabourn Ovation (2018); Seabourn Encore (2016).

Seabourn’s two Encore-class ships, Seabourn Ovation and Seabourn Encore, are the biggest vessels in the line’s fleet. If you’re in the “bigger is better” camp regarding cruise ships, these are the Seabourn vessels you’ll want to pick.

That said, the ships aren’t all that different than the line’s smaller Odyssey-class vessels (more on those below). Built on the same platform as the Odyssey-class ships, just with one more deck, they feature all the same main public spaces that exist on the earlier vessels, often in the same locations, with a handful of additions, the most notable being a sushi restaurant.

As is the case with the Odyssey-class vessels, the hub of each Encore-class vessel is its centrally located public gathering place known as Seabourn Square.

A revolutionary concept when it first debuted on Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Square might best be described as the ship’s living room. Filled with comfortable seating, workstations with computers, a puzzle table and cases lined with books, it’s a multipurpose space that is part lounge, part cafe and part library.

On one end of Seabourn Square is its most alluring feature — a European-style coffee bar serving carefully crafted cappuccinos and other espresso drinks, plus freshly baked pastries, homemade gelato and other nibbles. The spacious room is also home to a circular concierge area at its center where staff can help you book activities, and a guest services desk and a desk where you can book future cruises.

Other major public areas on each Encore-class ship include the Grand Salon, a theater-like space with tiered seating that is home to entertainment at night and serves as a lecture hall during the day. The Club is a cozy lounge with a bar and a tiny casino on the side. At the top of the ship, overlooking the bow is the Observation Bar, which offers stellar 270-degree views (even better views than what is available from the bridge, one deck below).

Dining options include The Restaurant, the ship’s main dining room, which offers elegant sit-down meals; The Patio, a poolside venue serving lighter fare; and The Colonnade, a casual eatery with both buffet and table-service dining during the day.

The Patio converts into the table-service-only Earth & Ocean for dinner. In the latter configuration, it offers bistro-style cuisine that rotates throughout each voyage.

In addition, the ship is home to The Grill by Thomas Keller, an eatery created by the famed chef. It offers his take on the classic American restaurant of the 1950s and 1960s, with his versions of such iconic American dishes as New York strip steak and lobster thermidor. Keller also designed dishes for family-style dinners with set menus served in The Colonnade on select nights.

Related: The 5 best places you can visit on a Seabourn ship

Unique to this class of ships is Sushi, a dedicated sushi restaurant with just 30 seats. Tucked away in a corner off a central stairway, it’s a hidden gem offering lovely and innovative sushi and sashimi plates at night. During the day, it serves disassembled “bento boxes” with cooked entrees such as miso salmon and teriyaki chicken — the latter arriving with miso soup and small dishes of salad, rice and oshinko.

As is often the case with luxury vessels, none of the eateries have an extra charge.

The Encore-class ships also have a small but sumptuous spa and wellness center with five treatment rooms, a thermal area, a salon and a fitness area.

Decor-wise, the Encore-class ships have a more yacht-like look than the older Odyssey-class vessels, with interiors created from top-to-bottom by well-known hospitality designer Adam Tihany. Tihany didn’t work on the earlier vessels, which have a more Nordic-style sleekness.

I find the Encore-class ships more enticing in their design than the Odyssey-class ships, thanks to Tihany’s rethinking of the decor. That said, I have mixed feelings about their larger size, which results in a slightly more crowded feel. This is most noticeable when at the main pool areas of the vessels, which aren’t much bigger than the main pool areas on the Odyssey-class ships, despite the ships carrying about a third more passengers.

On the plus side, the Encore-class ships have several additional hideaways for outdoor lounging tucked into little nooks at their fronts and backs.

Odyssey Class

Ships in class: Seabourn Quest (2011); Seabourn Sojourn (2010); Seabourn Odyssey (2009).

As noted above, Seabourn’s three Odyssey-class ships are similar to its two Encore-class ships in design, with the main difference being that they are a bit smaller. At 32,326 gross tons, the three vessels measure about 23% smaller than the Encore-class vessels. They hold about 24% fewer passengers.

The result is that the Odyssey-class ships provide a more intimate feel. The basic layout of the ships in the two classes is roughly the same, albeit with a few notable differences. On the Odyssey-class vessels, you’re traveling with fewer people, which results in everything from fewer crowds around the main pool to fewer people in the casual The Colonnade eatery at lunchtime.

As with the Encore-class ships, the public areas of the Odyssey-class ships revolve around a centrally located public gathering space called Seabourn Square, featuring elements of a lounge, cafe and library.

The Odyssey-class ships also have Grand Salons with tiered seating for entertainment and lectures, a cozy The Club bar and lounge, and a ship-top Observation Bar that offers sweeping views.

The biggest difference with the Odyssey-class ships is that they have one less deck and, therefore, 24% fewer suites. In public areas, the only notable difference is that there is no sushi restaurant and a smaller The Grill by Thomas Keller. (Initially, these ships didn’t have Thomas Keller restaurants, but they were carved out of space previously dedicated to the casual eatery, The Colonnade.)

The deck where the sushi restaurant and large Thomas Keller restaurant are located on the Encore-class ships is the deck that is missing on the Odyssey-class ships.

The expedition ships

Ships in class: Seabourn Pursuit (2023); Seabourn Venture (2022).

Seabourn Pursuit and Seabourn Venture are the Seabourn ships you book to get off the beaten path.

Much smaller than the other vessels in the Seabourn fleet and designed to carry just 264 passengers each, they’re both expedition ships — small vessels built extra tough to travel to the most remote and hard-to-reach parts of the world, including Antarctica and the Arctic.

As is typical for ships of this type, they both have extra-thick hulls and other features that allow them to bump through ice in polar regions. They carry Zodiac boats for landings in remote areas that have no infrastructure. They also sail with expedition guides to lead you on the landings and explain the wildlife and scenery.

Related: Luxury adventure cruise ships you have to see to believe

Still, unlike many expedition ships, Seabourn Pursuit and Seabourn Venture are luxurious vessels, with many of the upscale venues and amenities found on Seabourn’s bigger, more traditional luxury ships. If you know the bigger ships, you’ll feel right at home on the expedition ships.

Seabourn Pursuit and Seabourn Venture both have Seabourn’s signature Seabourn Square area that offers snacks, coffee and a guest services desk. Each offers a version of the main restaurant called The Restaurant and the more casual The Colonnade eatery.

Rounding out the public spaces are a smaller version of Seabourn’s spa and wellness center and a bar and lounge called The Club.

Suites on these vessels are especially swanky, with bright bathrooms all featuring bathtubs. Walk-in closets provide ample storage, even for long sailings, and every room has a small drying closet for outdoor adventure clothing. The latter is a welcome touch after rainy days and wet landings (when you put on waterproof boots provided by the ship and step off the Zodiac into the water when you reach the shore).

In addition, small in-room touches, like Swarovski binoculars and a pillow menu, further enhance the ship’s already thoughtful design.

The expedition ships also offer features that are unique to their class, from a “mud room” with cubbies where passengers can prep for landings in remote places such as Antarctica to a pair of submarines that are available for extra-fee underwater excursions.

In short, the ships are like smaller, more adventurous versions of the bigger Seabourn vessels.

Bottom line

The three types of Seabourn ships vary significantly in size , but they all are similar in their onboard venues and amenities. If you’ve been on any Seabourn ship and loved it, you’ll surely love its other vessels, too.

Cruises to the Adriatic Sea

Make your way along island-specked coastlines on one of our Adriatic cruises and marvel at pine-fringed beaches, medieval castles, and terracotta-roofed towns. Experience vibrant, cosmopolitan communities, enchanting seaside villages, and a blend of fascinating cultures.

On cruises to the Adriatic Sea, you’ll enjoy this lovely mélange in the area’s varied cuisine, architecture, and history. Spend balmy summer days on one of the pristine beaches along the Adriatic coastline, or go hiking and wine tasting in the countryside. Uncover the historic sites of the region and wander through captivating city centers. From Italy to Croatia and Montenegro, this region of Europe has a wealth of cultural gems waiting to be discovered.

Adriatic Cruise Highlights

Forts and castles.

Immerse yourself in the history of the Adriatic by visiting its castles, forts, cathedrals, and palaces. In Dubrovnik, stroll along the chunky ramparts that have encircled the city for centuries.   In Split, wander through Diocletian’s Palace, still a living community, where the Roman emperor once escaped for rest and refuge. In the handsome city of Trieste, visit the Cathedral of San Giusto Martire, from where you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the Adriatic Sea.

Sparkling Coasts

Discover the Adriatic’s breathtaking coastlines, where sparkling blue water, bleached white islands, and bottle-green pine forests await. From Dubrovnik, hop on the ferry to the wooded island of Lokrum, where you can swim off the rocks in crystal-clear water. In the Bay of Kotor, a deep fjord hemmed in by mountains, swim from small pebble beaches and kayak against a backdrop of tiny islands and coastal villages.

Culinary Delights

Treat your taste buds to new flavors during your cruise around the Adriatic. Taste crisp white Graševina wines, perfect with salty cheese and smoked ham. Try the famous black squid ink risotto and feast on plump peaches and sweet cherries, all grown locally. Enjoy fresh oysters from Ston, near Dubrovnik, and the wide variety of pasta dishes that reflect the proximity of Italy. Learn to drink coffee like a local, sitting in a café for hours while chatting with friends.

Featured Ports

Split, croatia.

The elegant old city of Split has a long history. At its heart is the magnificent Diocletian’s Palace—more a bustling self-contained community than a typical palace—built for the Roman emperor in 4 AD. Wander through the winding alleys and explore the vaulted substructures where musical performances are held. Join a wine tasting, and sample local smoked hams and cheese. Take a trip to Krka National Park, where waterfalls tumble over natural travertine platforms into blue-green pools.

Kotor, Montenegro

Nestled between the Bay of Kotor and the mountains of Mt. Lovcen, Kotor is a lovely old harbor town with a mountainous backdrop and a beautifully preserved medieval center. Explore the Old Town, where al-fresco cafés line sunlit squares. Step into the quirky Cats Museum, which is full of all things feline. Climb the ramparts that snake over the hills behind the city for awe-inspiring views over the rooftops and the long Bay of Kotor.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Between Italy and Montenegro, you’ll find the spectacular city of Dubrovnik, a heavenly coastal city in Croatia that has risen to the top of many travelers’ bucket lists. Walk around the historic old city walls, where you’ll see unparalleled views of Dubrovnik’s terracotta-roofed buildings and shimmering Adriatic beyond. Explore the area’s forts and monasteries, and take the aerial tram up craggy Mount Srd for the best view of the tangled streets of the old town.

Adriatic Cruise Itineraries

On a cruise to the Adriatic Sea with Celebrity Cruises, choose from seven to 11-night itineraries that depart from Barcelona, Rome, Athens, and Ravenna (Venice). Cruise between April and November and visit ports of call such as Dubrovnik, Trieste, Kotor, and Split.
