Since the mid '90s, Minneapolis duo Atmosphere have built one of the defining careers of independent hip-hop - especially due to their frequent, commanding live performances. Atmosphere shows have been known to include freestyles, feats of turntablism and, of course, rapper Slug's deeply emotional lyrics and asides. In the early years, Atmosphere toured with the DIY determination of a punk band, and ultimately landed on the 2003, 2004 and 2005 editions of the Vans Warped Tour. Thanks to their electric live shows and dedicated fan base, Atmosphere have appeared at Bonnaroo, Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bumbershoot, Governors Ball, the HFStival and more, as well as headlining treks like 2008's Paint the Nation tour, 2011's The Family Vacation tour, 2014's North of Hell tour and 2018's Mi Vida Local tour. In 2008, Slug and his Rhymesayers label co-owners founded Soundset, an annual music festival in Minneapolis which has since become America's premiere hip-hop gathering. Atmosphere performs every year, of course, and guests have included Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Migos, Lauryn Hill, Future, Nas, Snoop Dogg and many more.

Atmosphere in Concert

Atmosphere - rapper Sean "Slug" Daley and DJ/producer Anthony "Ant" Davis - have built one of independent rap's defining empires. In 1995, Slug cofounded the Rhymesayers Entertainment record label in his hometown of Minneapolis, releasing freestyle and live performance cassettes of his crew Headshots. Atmosphere's debut album, 1997's Overcast!, promptly became a galvanizing moment for both Minneapolis rap and the personal, confessional style of underground rap that would follow. The group's deeply emotional and personal lyrics and intense touring schedule made them allies with the punk and alternative rock communities, and 2003's Seven's Travels was released in conjunction with Epitaph Records. Atmosphere have released nine albums on Rhymesayers and have collaborated with Tom Waits, Doom, El-P and more. Slug has appeared on tracks by Aesop Rock, Sage Francis, Blowfly, Brother Ali and more.

Don’t sleep on atmosphere

Man was out front the venue greeting everybody and thanking us for stopping out. Opening acts was fun and Atmosphere killed it. Great show

Best Atmosphere show ever

Great venue. Amazing setlist. Open group NO FUN were so great. And I course Sean and Anthony showed why they are the masters of their craft and continue to impress. Been fans for 15 years now and never miss the opportunity to see Atmosphere live. Anyone who doesn't know already you have been missing out. Do yourselves a favor and support the Rhymesayers entire roster, never a dull moment. Thanks again Slug!

Atmosphere is never a let down! Slug knows how to get the crowd going. He talked to the audience more than usual, encouraging us to love one another, & to enjoy everyday. That’s definitely a change from other shows I’ve seen, but it’s apparent he’s evolved as he’s grown older. He played so many oldies - for us oldies. It is remarkable how he sounds the exact same as he did 20 years ago. Slug & Ant are truly a one-of-a-kind duo. KEEP MAKING MUSIC, MY DUDES!

Great night in Philly

Had a great time catching the show in Philly on April 18th with my cousin. Great set and the crowd was into it, venue was really cool, and the only drawback was work the next day :)

I am so grateful to have been able to see them again. Slug and Ant are incredible. The keep growing, putting out fabulous music, and rock as hard as ever. I forgot what a fun MC he is, hilarious, genuine, honest, genuine, skilled and just plain fun. What a wonderful seen to come up in, and nothing beats seeing a band that’s part of the soundtrack for your life… so many thoughts. ❤️

So excited to finally see them and I wasn't at all disappointed! Great show!

i saw atmosphere november 2016 in cleveland, it was absolutely freezing and me, my best friend & my fiancé at the time all were huddled together freezing and slug actually came and gave everyone a pep talk in the line waiting, never had something like that happen at a show. the show itself was indescribable, i had goosebumps the whole set, rapped the whole set. slug & ant truly lit the stage up. keep rocking and hold onto your ugly

Everyone who played killed it. Slug (from Atmosphere) had really cool hints as to what was coming up, sometimes subtle, sometimes obvious. And he is such a good lyricist, and Ant killed the beats. The Lioness is, in my opinion, the best female hip hop artist out right now. And Dem Atlas got the dance moves unlock. Unforgettable show. Everyone should see this guy at least once.
