12 – Mirabello Bay Full-Day Sailing Trip

Take a classic full-day sailing excursion from Agios Nikolaos on the northeast coast of Crete.

The Boat Safari category includes a sea tour, which is an adventure worth choosing. The duration is 4 hours and takes place in the wider area of Georgioupolis, Obrogialos near a cave. You will be drawn by the crystal blue waters, where you will have enough time to jump in for a refreshing swim. Each boat is 5 meters long, has 5 seats and its engine is 30hp YAMAHA.

Tour guide safety will be on the first boat to give directions on navigation and show you the route while the rest of the rental boats will follow. There is also pick-up and drop-off service and we can supply you with sandwiches and water.

The possibility of a skipper is provided with an extra charge of 20€.

We did 2 day tours, to Spinalonga and to Heraklion/Knossos. The rep at Ela Tours 2 in Hersonissos told us about any additional charges (entrance fees to Spinalonga and Combined ticket for Museum/Knossos) but all together the value for money was very good. The archaeological museum was visited before Knossos and this seemed for us logical and enhanced the visit to the palace which was quieter by late afternoon. Only one unnecessary stop in Heraklion at a shopping centre. The guide for both days was certainly worth listening to, speaking excellent English (and German). Boat trip and BBQ before Spinalonga, again excellent. Great value and good service from Ela Tours.

The shop was conveniently located near our hotel, the Silva Beach. We made enquiries as to what tours were available and the lady in the shop was most helpful explaining all the times and prices etc. This enabled us to plan our fortnight and book 4 tours 1 of which was complimentary. We did Spinalonga, West Crete, Heraklion and Santorini. All trips were well organised with informative guides and good value for money. Highly recommended.

We loved everything about this trip except the restaurant part. If the restaurant was removed from the trip, it would be almost perfect. Nektarios knows a lot about Crete and its nature, landscape, plants and wildlife. I am disabled and Nektarios was very patient and helpful with me as I got in and out of the jeep. The off-road part of the trip over the mountains was very scary but we felt safe with Nektarios driving, he was very experienced. We enjoyed all the different stops apart from the restaurant. Sadly, that put a downer on the day and it left our children quite upset. Firstly, when we arrived and sat at the table, the waitress came out and told us what we would be eating. The first course was apparently a Greek salad. I informed her that I am allergic to cucumber and asked if we could we please have our salad without cucumber. She looked utterly confused and said that wasn’t possible as the salad was mixed. No problem, I said, we will just skip the salad then as I didn’t want to be ill. However, a few minutes later, she brought out a big bowl of Greek salad, without cucumber! It was quite tasty. (Nektarios went for a swim in the sea while we sat down to eat. We did not swim in the sea because we are autistic and the salt water irritates our skin. Plus there was nowhere to get changed/dry.) Anyway, the main course was chicken and penne pasta. It was awful, unfortunately. There was no flavour, no sauce and it was very bland and boring. The chicken tasted dry. We struggled to eat it but we forced ourselves because it was a long day without food. Our children couldn’t eat any of it so they ran off to play with the local cats on the beach. The dessert was a bunch of grapes and we were allowed one drink each. I popped to the loo and I noticed that there was no loo roll and there was strangely a shower head looped over a tap on the wall to the right of the loo. Luckily I had some tissues in my pocket. As we were about to finish the grapes, our young autistic daughter asked me where the loo was. She walked off alone and when she gently opened the toilet door the aforementioned shower started spraying water everywhere, which made her jump. She had only opened the door to the toilet so she had no idea where all the water was coming from. Suddenly, a lady working in the kitchen started screaming at our little girl. “CLOSE THE SHOWER! CLOSE THE SHOWER! CLOSE THE SHOWER!” Our daughter was so frightened and she didn’t know how to “close the shower” as all she had done was pushed open the toilet door. She had not even touched the shower. She stood there, terrified and confused and upset because she had firstly been soaked by a random, unexpected shower and then she was screamed at by a lady from the kitchen who came running towards her with her arms flailing and an angry, red face. Our daughter was then too frightened to use the toilet and she spent the rest of the trip desperate for the loo. The kitchen lady then marched out the front of the restaurant and started shouting angrily (in Greek) to Nektarios, who calmly and rationally replied to her (in Greek) until she eventually started to calm down. It was very awkward and all the other customers were staring. This upset our poor little girl and it spoiled the rest of the trip really, although we all tried very hard to calm our daughter and move past it. Nektarios helped to cheer us up too by not making a big deal of it. The road back to the pick up point was lovely, with fantastic views across the sea. Then we stopped at an olive oil processing facility, which was very interesting. It would have been even better if we could have seen the olives actually being pressed, rather than clean, empty machines, but we enjoyed it and we learned a lot. The shop at the end was super but everything was rather expensive so we only purchased a couple of items. In summary, the jeep trip was brilliant, if a little scary on the mountains, apart from the restaurant stop. I’d definitely book this trip again when we return to Crete next year, as long as they changed the restaurant. Nektarios is an excellent guide/driver and I’d be more than happy to go on a trip with him again! I would have given 5 stars if it wasn’t for the restaurant experience. An unforgettable cruise to Chrissi island, one of the southern points in Europe, also known as Donkey Island or Golden Island.

Chrissi island is located nine miles from Ierapetra. It has a unique cedar forest, pure white sand dunes, golden shallow sand beaches and a sea with unbelievable tropical colors.

You will sail to the island, where you stay for about 4,5 hours. Relax on the beach, or take a long walk along on the endless beach and marvel at the millions of colorful small shells. More about the Isla of Chrissi

Chryssi, also called Gaidouronisi, is an islet of the Libyan Sea and is about 15 km (9 miles) south of Ierapetra and 700 meters east of it, is the island of Mikronissi. It is one of the many islands that surround Crete. It has an area of 4,743 sq. Km. and 2 residents. Golden is surrounded by many beaches with golden sand, which has its modern name. The island has a large number of shells, mainly on the north side, which is also one of the distinctive features of the island.

Golden Island is protected by the Natura 2000 program as “intense natural beauty”, as well as a designated wildlife sanctuary. The island hosts the largest naturally-formed forest of Lebanese cedar in Europe. An impressive feature of the island is the cedar forest with the majority of trees that have an average age of 200 years and an average height of 7 meters, some trees are over 300 years old and have 10 meters in height.

In Chryssi has also been found fossils on volcanic rocks dating from 350,000 to 70,000 years when the island was still immersed in the water.

About 700 meters east of Chryssi is Mikronisi, a rocky islet covering 11.7 hectares. The waters around the islands are shallow. Located 1 kilometer to the north and 500 meters south the depth does not exceed 10 meters and five meters depth contour surrounding both islands.

Do you want to enjoy some exciting watersports in Crete? Our most popular watersports activities are Jet Ski, Boat Trip to the Caves and the Speedboat Adventure.

The  Boat Trip to the Caves   is an experience of a lifetime! It really is a "must do" excursion and our experienced captain will take you on an enchanting, leisurely tour, inside many different caves. The amazing caves are thousands of years old and full of some special treats; especially the incredible Lion Cave. We think these caves are one of the hidden gems of Crete because not many people (even some locals) know about them and they can only be reached by sea.

We highly recommend our Speedboat Adventure which is amazing; because the coastline of Crete is beautiful and we venture along it for 15km, (so 30km in total), visiting areas that can only be reached by boat or jet ski. The scenery is spectacular, especially when enjoyed from the comfort of the speedboat.

You can also enjoy a Private Speedboat Tour , with your own experienced captain, who will take you on your own personal excursion, along the marvellous Crete coastline. The tour will reveal some beautiful bays and beaches, that can only be reached by sea. If you wish you can also visit the caves and stop for a swim. We will organise a customised trip just for you.

Other exhilarating watersports on offer include the Banana which is great fun for all the family, as are the Crazy Sofa and the thrill seekers favourite Crazy UFO .

Canoes / Kayaks , Stand Up Paddle-Board ( SUP ) and Boat Rental are also popular watersports activities and give you another opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Crete, including the lovely clear water.

If you fancy an exciting ride on a Jet Ski , our jet skis are available for rent for 15 minute intervals. A 30 minute ride allows you to really have a blast. You drive alone, in the open water, although you must remain in sight, so within a range of about 2km. Jet ski is a favourite activity for all ages, although jet ski riders under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Our watersports offering is completed by wakeboarding and waterskiing , although you should be aware that the sea in Crete can sometimes be wild. On such days, wakeboard and waterski will not be possible. Indeed, all of our watersports activities are dependent on the weather; safety is our number one priority!

We are open every day, weather permitting, from mid April through until the first week in November. Are usual opening hours are 10.00 until 17.00.

We booked 2 jet Skis for the safari and we had so much fun, my first time driving a jet ski and after a slow start and getting used to it, I had a fabulous time. Tour takes you along the coast line and past caves. After a while you can stop and have a bit of a swim before heading back which is when we had more fun, really could use the jet skis to play about.
