10 Top Boston Harbor Cruises

Venture on the water to explore Beantown's waterfront, maritime history and more.

Take in stunning city views from the water.

Boston is the most populous city in New England – and for good reason. This Massachusetts metropolis may host modern shopping, dining and cultural attractions, but Boston is built upon a rich American tapestry created over the centuries that's still visible in its quaint neighborhood streets and stone houses. The city's historic harbor along the Massachusetts Bay set the scene for a significant portion of Boston's story; once the site of Revolution-era protests like the Boston Tea Party, this body of water is now primarily used for revelry. No visit to Massachusetts' capital city would be complete without some time on Boston Harbor.

If you're planning to spend some time in Beantown during the warmer months, consider boarding a schooner for an hour or two of sightseeing, or head out on a boat you can pedal or sail yourself. Cruises on the harbor offer a range of historical tours, romantic dinners on the water, unique brunches with friends or even the chance to spot some endangered whales. Whether you opt for a tall ship or a smaller, more eco-friendly vessel, soak in city views and enjoy your time on the water with the following top Boston Harbor cruises.

Boston Harbor City Cruises by Hornblower

Hornblower's City Experiences brand offers a wide variety of land-based and on-the-water tours, which includes City Cruises. While the brand has greatly expanded over the past century to 125 U.S. cities and more than 100 countries, it all began with Boston Harbor Cruises, founded in 1926.

Today, Boston Harbor City Cruises encompass a range of ways to see the city from the water. You can book a brunch, lunch or dinner cruise on a dining vessel like the 600-passenger Boston Odyssey; time your sailing for sunset; or plan a big outing for a holiday such as the Fourth of July. Dare to ride Codzilla, a thrilling speed boat designed to leave slow-paced sightseeing tours in its wake. Zoom around the harbor for around 45 minutes at up to 40 miles per hour – and since you likely will get wet, ponchos are available on board. This 70-foot harbor boat, complete with a toothy paint job, also boasts an original soundtrack.

If you're looking for a different kind of enjoyment with a little less aquatic adrenaline, Boston Harbor City Cruises partners with the New England Aquarium for a series of spectacular whale watching trips. From Boston's Central Wharf, you'll head to Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, one of the world's most active marine sanctuaries. Whales in the region include humpbacks, minke whales, the endangered right whales and more. You can also try to spot sea birds, dolphins and other marine life – but if you don't see whales on your cruise, a free ticket will be offered to you for a future whale watching trip.

Classic Harbor Line Boston

A Classic Harbor Line Boston boat sails against the sunset.

With a fleet that includes schooner Adirondack III and motor yacht Northern Lights, Classic Harbor Line is a great choice for a Boston Harbor cruise. Join a guided sightseeing tour or charter your own yacht for the day; the schooner is designed for 40 people or less, while the motor yacht can accommodate just under 150 guests. Classic Harbor Line offers themed cruises, if your interest is piqued by either an adults-only nighttime City Lights sailing (perfect for couples) or a cruise that pairs a day of harbor islands and lighthouses – including the country's oldest – with a picnic lunch. The two-hour sunset cruise aboard Northern Lights is accompanied by the nightly cannon fire from the USS Constitution , also known as "Old Ironsides" – the world's oldest commissioned warship still afloat, built in 1794.

If you want to sail Boston Harbor with a cold beer, you can't go wrong with Sails & Ales, a special themed cruise created in partnership with the local favorite Harpoon Brewery. Sail along the waterfront at sunset past sights like Independence Fort as your Harpoon representative explains beermaking techniques. You'll sip four flagship or seasonal beers plus one cider. A ticket for a future free tour of the brewery is included, and you'll know exactly where it is because this cruise sails right past it.

Boston Green Cruises

Right on Rowes Wharf behind the Boston Harbor Hotel, Boston Green Cruises has a fleet of three vessels: the 350-passenger Sir Winston and two low-emissions boats known as Beach Cat, a 44-foot catamaran that seats 30 people, and Zulu. Boston Green Cruises, which calls itself Boston Harbor's first eco-friendly fleet, offers a 60-minute, fully narrated sightseeing tour for all ages that covers the city's marquee waterfront sights. A 90-minute sightseeing cruise is also on offer on one of the company's smaller ships and includes time passing the historic locks along the Charles River. If you're looking for the ultimate intimate Boston Harbor cruise, consider a private charter, which can run anywhere from two to eight hours. Be aware that in the event of inclement weather, cruises will be rescheduled but not refunded, per company policy. Past Boston Green Cruise participants have said the captain they sailed with was friendly and knowledgeable, providing a great history lesson on the harbor.

Massachusetts Bay Lines

Massachusetts Bay Lines, referred to locally as Mass Bay Lines, offers sightseeing tours and private charters in Boston Harbor – but also floating concerts and DJ sets you can experience with up to 379 of your closest new friends. Beyond traditional sightseeing tours and music cruises, Mass Bay also hosts a handful of themed options. Once per month from May through October, you can take part in a two-hour Full Moon Cruise, which sets sail under the lunar light of a full moon and the city lights of Boston in the background. Passengers 21 and up may choose to celebrate New Year's Eve or Independence Day by cruising in the city known as the birthplace of the American Revolution: The adults-only sailings on Dec. 31, July 3 and July 4 mark the occasions with a cash bar, dancing and a prime place to watch the fireworks. Dog owners will be happy to know Mass Bay even welcomes one four-legged friend per each adult ticket on its Dog Days of Summer sailings – but you're not required to bring a pooch, so if you're simply a dog lover looking to see the sights, head down to Rowes Wharf.

Cycleboat Boston

A Cycleboat Boston boat on the water.

If you've walked around Beantown but still want to get some steps in – even on the water – consider booking a sightseeing harbor cruise that you can pedal. Cycleboat Boston lets you ride on bike seats and cycle your way through Boston Harbor to help propel the boat, but it's not required if you'd rather relax in the lounge. Tours focused on U.S. history cover the Boston Tea Party Ships , Bunker Hill Monument and the Charlestown Navy Yard, among other local sites. Pedal along during the day, by night or at sunset; the morning cruises encourage mimosas, but you must provide valid ID and bring your own beverages (with coolers and ice provided). Recent reviews rave about the captain and first mate and say if you're not looking for much of a workout you can just sit back and have fun.

Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships

A Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships vessel on the water with the city in the background.

Board a schooner from the Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships and sail Boston's historic harbor in fitting style. Your two-hour tour begins by embarking the 125-foot Liberty Clipper at Long Wharf, or you can opt for a more intimate, 90-minute experience on the Liberty Star, which is less than half the size of the Liberty Clipper. Tickets and drink tickets can be purchased ahead online or during your cruise; otherwise, you can bring your own snacks and bag lunches.

The fleet sails Boston Harbor from June through September, offering sunset cruises, history sailings and evening cocktail cruises where the rum never stops flowing (with group discounts available for parties of four). Sailing enthusiasts may want to join the Sail Through Time Cruise, which documents the history of some of Boston's most famous sailing ships, as well as the people who lived and worked on them; you can enjoy this fact-filled day on the water with a docent from Boston by Foot as your guide and even help hoist the sails. Passengers appreciate the serenity of seeing the city from a new perspective.

Boston Electric Boats

A Boston Electric Boats boat on the water with the city in the background.

India Wharf was one of the largest commercial wharves in the Port of Boston during the 19th century, and today the India Wharf Marina, just a short walk from the aquarium, hosts boats for rental or charter through Boston Electric Boats. Those seeking a self-guided Boston Harbor cruise will be pleased to take advantage of the Be Your Own Captain Rental, available for two hours at a time. No experience or boating license is necessary to pilot the boat – though the company will make sure you're comfortable before you set off – and up to 11 people can sail along with you.

If you'd rather leave the steering to someone else, a Captain Provided Charter accommodates up to six passengers, allowing you to take in the breeze and enjoy any refreshments you may have brought. The boat's canopy provides shade, while the open deck is perfect for basking in the sun; the enclosure windows can be opened or closed to adjust for the weather. These electric boats are more eco-friendly with no fuel odors and a quiet motor. Boaters have commented that preset GPS routes make piloting the boats much easier, and a top speed of 6 miles per hour keeps the ride safe and relaxing.

Boston Harbor Islands Ferry

Beginning in May, a ferry service provided by Boston Harbor City Cruises connects downtown Boston to the Boston Harbor Islands. This transport gives a unique chance to experience some of the wilder elements of Boston's seaways, with ferries that run to Spectacle Island, Georges Island and Thompson Island during the warmer months.

On Thompson Island, accessible only on weekends, you'll get a brief orientation to start your visit; on Saturdays, a National Park Service ranger hosts a guided walk to explore the island ecosystems, including salt marsh, beaches, meadows and forest. Spectacle Island is a 114-acre island perfect for a day of hiking and swimming, with an accessible lifeguarded beach and occasional weekend jazz concerts. Georges Island offers up the history, as it houses the Civil War-era Fort Warren; ranger-led tours are available.

Charles Riverboat Company

The Charles Riverboat Company was founded in 1990 and remains a family-run business whose five vessels now carry more than 50,000 passengers per year. The company believes that whether you're a visitor or a local, seeing the city from the water is a spectacular experience that all will enjoy. Guided historic sightseeing cruises feature Harvard University, modern skyscrapers like the Prudential Building and more. Learn about the architecture and building design of landmarks along the harbor and Charles River on the two-hour Architecture Cruise.

As you might expect, many of the Charles Riverboat offerings focus on its namesake river, which flows into Boston Harbor, whether you want to see fall foliage, hear haunted tales or simply enjoy a cocktail at sunset with live music on the Charles River. The company also has a booming charter business for graduations, engagements, retirements and other special celebrations, with recent customers citing extraordinary service from staff.

Boston Duck Tours

If you can't choose between tours on land and boat, you don't have to. It's nearly impossible to visit Boston and not run into one of its renowned duck tours. This type of amphibious automobile was originally created as a military vehicle under the code name "DUKW," and now these boat-bus hybrids can transport tourists in and out of the water. To cap off your city visit, venture slightly beyond Boston Harbor with this cruise along the Charles River.

The vehicles used today by Boston Duck Tours are uniquely designed to roll past city sights like Boston Common , the Old North Church and the Fanueil Hall Marketplace before or after launching into the Charles River for views of the Cambridge and Boston skylines. This Boston boat experience is unlike any other, led by beloved "conDUCKtor" guides: You might meet Duck Tracy, Florence Waters or Professor Quackenstein, who will regale you with their own take on Boston's top attractions. A lighthearted but thorough excursion through city history, Boston Duck Tours has won many accolades. Past customers remember these unique tours as one of the best parts of their visit – and as a special draw for kids, the tour guides may allow children to briefly steer the boat in the water for a particularly memorable experience.

Things To Do

An odyssey dinner cruise around boston harbor not just for tourists.

An illuminated Boston skyline is made for taking photos. (Photo Moira McCarthy)

Sometimes, being a dyed-in-the-wool local can get in the way of finding some  amazing fun.

Case in point: A friend recently invited my husband and me to join a group on the Odyssey Premier Dinner Cruise, part of Boston Harbor City Cruises’ (https://www.cityexperiences.com)  long list of on-the-water offerings in and around Boston Harbor.

Of course I said yes. I’d not seen this friend in quite a while. But I said yes with a bit of an internal eye roll.

A harbor dinner cruise? How touristy!

I was wrong. Our three-hour dinner tour of Boston Harbor was both beautiful and fun. And I’m here to say to the rest of you locals: Grab a seat on the Odyssey. You’ll see our beloved city in a new light (sunset and then starlight), from a view you don’t often get.

And, you’ll savor a great three-course meal, excellent cocktails, and make friends with many of the other guests aboard. It’s a wicked awesome time.

We boarded the Odyssey at its dock at Rowes Wharf. Having parked at the Boston Harbor Hotel’s public lot (affordable; a nice surprise), we had only steps to walk to the boarding area. Being a Thursday, a live band was playing on the floating docks outside the BHH, a nice kick-off to our night.

Before boarding, a ship photog snapped a shot of us with the ship behind us (available for purchase at night’s end. And yes they were worth taking home, we were led onboard to our window-side table.

Wanting to relish every minute, we headed up to the top deck with a first cocktail. The top deck has scattered conversation pits with those comfy outdoor couches. It was a bit chilly our night (hello, early summer 2023), but the heat lamps did the trick. And we needed not carry our drinks up; waiters approached regularly to keep us sipping.

The lower level dining area is centered with a dance floor and a house DJ. He kept up a background of perfect dining music as we ate.

I chose the charcuterie board first course, a delicious steak dinner and a decadent chocolate cake dessert. There was salmon, chicken and a vegetarian meal to choose from as well.

After dinner, the dance floor came alive, and it became clear who was celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and engagements.

We danced as we felt the mood, the sun setting on the harbor behind us.

But sunset also means back to the top deck where we watched the city shift from day to night.

I felt newly enamored with my beloved Boston. And with all the Seaport development, the skyline’s gotten a new look.

As we cruised along the harbor, past the harbor islands, the airport, the city front and more, I got a little verklempt.

“Oh wow,” I said, “Even the Tobin looks beautiful from this point of view!”

“Moira,” my husband laughed, “that may be an exaggeration.”

“Look at it!” I said, pointing at the lights of the bridge reflecting on the water.  “I rest my case. My city’s a beauty.”

As the night went on, everyone shifted from dance floor to outdoor views and back again; we took pictures of one another and airdropped them, stopped to hug the couple celebrating a big anniversary and basically, acting like one giant wedding party.

We pulled back into Rowe’s Wharf, up close with the city that had been sparkling in the distance all night. A Boston dinner cruise. Totally works for this local.

In my ten years planning this event, City Experiences was not only the most seamless on the planning side - but the quality of the event was off the charts! I have never gotten so much positive feedback from my team on a holiday party. The food was fantastic and the service was perfection. Cannot recommend booking with them highly enough! • jimrY3320BC 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles I wanted something uniue, upscale and special and they delivered. We booked a surprise birthday party for 39 people. Booking staff was excellent. Wait staff was excellent. Dj played music for a minute during dinner...very loud...not sure why. Food was pretty good. The night city skyline was great. It was a truly unique upscale event and everyone was blown away. Prices are kind of high per person. No discount for large group. But it was overall a great event for a real special occasion. Parking was a little weird but I don't think it's their fault. The parking validation was done on board before departure which simplified things. Greer was our waitress. Can't say enough about her. Jasmine was my booking point person. Very professional and accommodating. Well run venue. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to do something really unique and outside the box. Pricey but pretty cool. Jim Read more Written October 17, 2023
  • Isabel089 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Comfortable, elegant and delicious cruise We were a family group of six and went on a Sunday afternoon with clear crisp autumn weather. We all really enjoyed our time. The spacious dining room was elegantly laid out with white tablecloths and attractive table settings; our server was friendly and efficient; the plentiful buffet offerings - which included both brunch and luncheon dishes - were delicious, as were the cocktails and mocktails. After our meal, we went to the outdoor decks and had wonderful views as we cruised around the harbor. It was an excellent treat, especially for two of our group who were visiting Boston from overseas. Yes, it was expensive - but for a special occasion with special people, it felt just right. • HernOkies 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great way to start our visit in Boston We absolutely loved the dinner cruise on the Boston Harbor. Our server was excellent and the food was very good. However, our soup was barely warm but itvwas delicious. Cocktails were great and we enjoyed the live DJ's music 70's selections. Later a group of ladies hit the dance floor and the music changed more towards hip-hop so we went upstairs to the upper deck to see the harbor lights. It was not windy and we really enjoyed it. Something we didnt know and didnt see in the information about how to get to the departure point is that if you tell Uber to drop you to the Boston Harbor Hotel then you just walk between the Starbucks and the hotel right down to the wharf. There will be staff waiting with a passenger lust and will show you where to go. Also, the dress code said semi-formal but no one that I saw was dressed that way. Nice pants or skirt & blouse for ladies and slacks or nice jeans & shirt for the men was perfect. Take a jacket if youbwant to enjoy the upper deck. Read more Written September 26, 2023

Appetizers were not prepped properly and were frozen when served. The main course was even more disappointing and was cold when served with no taste. We didn’t even look for dessert after the food was taken away. Bring a jacket for dinner because the A/C was set to sub zero, and plan on going out for food after you dock. The restaurant manager kiana (i think that was her name) was truly a gift as well as the server and bartender. The day went off perfectly. As for the coordination before … it was not as great. I had to reach out a month in advance to pay the bill and go over the details on my own. I was told the event coordinator would reach out 8 weeks in advance. Upon reaching out i was scheduled to talk to an event coordinator and we went through everything and i felt great about it! Until my questions and the promised email attachments were not sent or answered for 2/2.5 weeks. The week of my wedding reception i still had not gotten an answer. I had to email the senior coordinator who did what he could to help and after multiple attempts my assigned coordinator finally reached out. She did everything i asked at the last possible moment. I also was under the impression an event coordinator would be there as well.. no one showed up. So if you’re planning on doing any type of party here - just make sure you’re working with someone who answers (: Read more Written July 31, 2023

MASS. BUSINESSES

Confidence takes a downturn

For a while, it seemed like Massachusetts business confidence would keep marching upward. But the run of good fortune switched in March, after three straight months of gains, according to the latest Associated Industries of Massachusetts Business Confidence Index. The index shed 2.3 points, falling to 52.2 last month, although it remained above 50, the breakpoint between negative and positive territory. And the index also remained slightly higher than a year ago. The index last dipped into negative territory, below 50, in September but had been generally trending upward since then. Participants in the latest AIM membership survey used to create the index cited concerns about high interest rates, rising labor costs, and softening demand for goods and services. Participating employers expressed uncertainty about the direction of the overall economy as well as their own business prospects. Specific regional indexes that AIM tracks also fell in Central Massachusetts and Western Massachusetts, while an index for North Shore employers gained ground last month. — JON CHESTO

GM restarts testing of Cruise autonomous robotaxis

General Motors’ Cruise autonomous driving business is preparing to resume testing its robotaxis with safety drivers in Phoenix, marking an important step in its attempts to restart service after grounding its fleet last year. The company was set to announce and begin the testing as early as Tuesday, according to two people with knowledge of the matter. In recent months, Cruise has been in talks with officials in 20 metropolitan areas where it previously ran cars or had started mapping in preparation to run them. Phoenix is a natural place to start as Cruise already has vehicles in the area and city officials were open to the idea of its return, said one of the people, who asked not to be named as the plan isn’t public. — BLOOMBERG NEWS

EU tightens rules on food imports to appease protesting farmers

The European Union moved closer to extending its tariff-free trade with Ukraine, while tightening rules on food imports to placate protesting farmers’ concerns about oversupply. The European Parliament’s committee on international trade voted Tuesday to support the hard-fought provisional agreement reached by the bloc’s 27 member states the previous day. The proposed one-year extension suspending duties and quotas will reinstate tariffs if supply of certain products exceeds a set threshold — but the safeguards don’t include potential restrictions on wheat despite demands from France, Poland, and Hungary. Extending the so-called autonomous trade measures — which still need to be approved by a European Parliament vote at the end of April — would allow Kyiv to keep almost unfettered access to the EU market until June 2025. The trade accord, along with concerns over rising production and administrative costs, has been the focus of farmer protests across Europe, most recently in Poland and Belgium. — BLOOMBERG NEWS

Microsoft to invest billions in Japanese data centers

Microsoft will invest $2.9 billion in data centers in Japan by 2025, marking its biggest investment in the country, the Nikkei newspaper reported. The announcement will be made during Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s visit to Washington this week and comes amid Tokyo’s push for more computing power for artificial intelligence, according to the report. Kishida arrived in the United States on Monday for the first official visit by a Japanese leader in nine years, underscoring the increasing importance of the alliance between the two countries. He is scheduled to meet American business leaders on Tuesday before holding a summit with President Biden on Wednesday. — BLOOMBERG NEWS

Fortune names its first female editor

Fortune named Anastasia Nyrkovskaya as its next CEO on Tuesday, making her the first woman to lead the 95-year-old business publication. She takes over from Alan Murray, who announced in October that he would step down in 2024 after nearly 10 years at Fortune. Nyrkovskaya had been the chief financial officer and chief strategy officer since 2019. In an interview, Nyrkovskaya said Fortune was profitable and had added more than 130 positions in the past 12 months across the editorial and business sides. The newsroom has doubled in size since 2021, she said. The company now has about 360 workers, including just over 100 in the newsroom. Nyrkovskaya, 47, who was born outside Moscow and studied there, previously worked at NBCUniversal, Birchbox, XpresSpa, and KPMG. Fortune appointed her as CEO 2½ years after hiring its first female editor-in-chief, Alyson Shontell. — NEW YORK TIMES

Pfizer wants to extend RSV shot to young adults

Pfizer’s RSV shot produced immune reactions in young adults at higher risk of severe illness just as well as in older people, spurring the company’s plans to apply for wider US approval. A single dose of the vaccine, called Abrysvo, produced a strong immune response in adults ages 18 to 59 with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or chronic lung disease, Pfizer said. Based on the final-stage trial results, the company plans to ask the Food and Drug Administration to extend the shot’s approval to adults 18 and older. — BLOOMBERG NEWS

Neutrogena closing LA office

Neutrogena is permanently closing its Los Angeles office as parent Kenvue Inc. consolidates operations to New Jersey. The closure is resulting in 84 layoffs, according to a worker notification document viewed by Bloomberg News. Of those employees, 74 have been offered relocation and employment at other company locations. Neutrogena gained popularity in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 1994. It benefited from the consumer-health giant’s deep marketing pockets and product-development prowess. More recently, however, the brand has faltered amid supply shortages that have caused retailers to take Neutrogena items off the shelves and replace them with products from rivals such as CeraVe and Hero. Kenvue was spun off from J&J last year. — BLOOMBERG NEWS

Fired SI executive sues

Former Sports Illustrated publisher Arena Group and its chief executive, Manoj Bhargava, were sued by a terminated executive who claims he’s owed at least $2 million. Andrew Kraft, Arena’s former president and chief operating officer, filed suit Monday in federal court in New York. It’s the latest legal dispute stemming from Bhargava’s 2023 takeover of Arena, which acquired the publishing rights to Sports Illustrated in 2019 from its owner, Authentic Brands Group LLC, for $15 million per year plus other royalties. After being bought by Bhargava, the founder of 5-Hour Energy drinks, Arena missed multiple debt payments and conducted mass layoffs, moves that brought negative publicity to the Sports Illustrated brand. Authentic terminated the licensing agreement in January and sued Arena and Bhargava earlier this month for allegedly failing to pay royalties, infringing its intellectual property, and decimating the brand. — BLOOMBERG NEWS

Beeper, the app that brought iPhone messaging features to Android smartphones, has been acquired by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com , to support the development of a single service for sending and receiving chats from WhatsApp, Signal, LinkedIn, and others. The deal, which is valued at about $125 million, was announced Tuesday. It comes as regulators in Europe and the United States pressure the biggest tech companies to open their messaging services to third parties. — NEW YORK TIMES

Who Are Evans Chebet’s Parents? Marathon Runner Looking To Create History At Boston Marathon 2024?

K enyan runner Evans Chebet gears up to make his mark for the third time at the prestigious Boston Marathon 2024 . After winning the event in 2022 and 2023, Chebet’s athletic prowess is going to be on display once again. Born and raised in the heart of Kenya, Chebet had a humble beginning. Along his journey, the individuals who have played a pivotal role in shaping his journey are his parents.

They ensured that amid all the hardships, Chebet held his head high and came out victorious. The Scrawny kid who had never raced on the track is now 34 and won both Boston and New York City Marathons. Let ut take a look at the journey of Evans, indeed it’s a rough road, but he went through all those just because his own people stood by him.

Keeping the dream alive, even amid trying times

Chebet is the eighth of nine children. Chebet’s father, Kipyesang, was a successful distance runner, winning numerous trophies in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter events. However, he tragically passed away from cancer when Chebet was just a young boy. Though Chebet has no memory of his father, the financial hardships that ensued after his death are still very real in his mind.  “We had enough to eat just two meals a day,” he says , “and dinner wasn’t much—just a little githeri [a mixture of corn and beans]. I always felt like I had to support my family.” Although not money, his father left in him a more important thing that his mother pointed out.

Chebet’s mother, Wanjiro, who runs a small restaurant, would point to Kipyesang’s photo, reminding him of his father’s legacy, “Run like your father. He left the talent to you.” In an interview, Wanjiro had a proud look, “When Evans was young, he was running all the time—up and down through the hills,” she says. “And every time he came home, he was stretching.” She always had the belief in her son to become a champion. T his support has kept him doing wonders on the track. Now, he is on the verge of another.

Road to Boston Marathon 2024 glory is not easy

Evans Chebet never raced on the track and only began running as a teenager in 2006. Now he is aiming for a third consecutive victory in the 2024 race on April 15th. Chebet, an experienced marathoner, has won six of his last seven 26.2-mile races. While speaking to B.A.A. he said, “Boston has become like a second home to me and running in Boston is always special – returning as reigning champion even more so. Even after having run 28 marathons during my career, the chance to race the 29th in Boston and the fans there give me the motivation necessary to prepare to defend my title.”  However, there will be several talents to make his work difficult.

There will be Sisay Lemma, who at the 2023 Valencia Marathon shattered the course record with a time of 2:01:48, surpassing Kelvin Kiptum’s world record by five seconds. Meanwhile, Gabriel Geay from Tanzania, a runner-up last year, emerges as a formidable contender. Interestingly, Geay’s personal best of 2:03:00 ties with that of Chebet. It remains to be seen if Chebet can cruise through these challenges to complete his three-peat!
