Cool Cruiser

A piece of cake on a ship with free food seems a waste and a glass of bubbly with a drink package purchased also little value.  🙂   Not a big deal.  I really don't care but was just curious.  They just asked us when we booked.

On the Silhouette a couple of years ago I was shown, at Guest Services, a book with a range of special cakes, various flower arrangements, bottles of Champagne, and room decorations. You can pay a few dollars and get something simple but different from the normal and included options. You can pay a lot of dollars and get even more.

I got a couple of items for my wife's birthday. Whilst she enjoyed them she thought they were expensive. We decided to go for a speciality restaurant as something special for our next cruise.

Thanks!  So you had to pay for something special for your wife?  They didn't do anything for you for free?

Haha

A couple years ago we were sailing on Eclipse in Blu and my husband advised Celebrity ahead of time that we were celebrating an anniversary, and when.  On the date, our waiter showed up at our table with a little chocolate cake and they gathered around to sing "Happy Birthday" to me!  Needless to say, DH was not pleased.  Maybe they are better about honeymoons but for anniversaries don't expect a lot!  We also advised our Maître d' and waiter (also in Blu, on another ship) that the cruise we were on was our 50th with Celebrity.  Thought at the very least we'd maybe get that crummy little cake again.  Nothing.  Not even a congratulations when we told them.  Nothing from the Captains Club hostess either.  Oh well.  Didn't ruin our cruise for sure but a bit disappointing.  Some of this stuff is so very easy to do and makes a big difference to people.  When us 'old folks' complain about things not being the way they used to be this is a good example.  Does it ruin a cruise?  Of course not.  Does it make the passenger feel less special than in years past?  You bet.

Geez, 50 cruises should get you a free cruise.  They might put you in the engine room, but free no less.  Well, it's our anniversary so I guess I will hold out for that free cake.  🙂

Holiday Sharing

I think the snag is so many of us try to book cruises to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries (especially the meaningful ones)...

Once on board mention to your waiter and M’D on boarding that you are celebrating something special and remind them quietly on the evening and you will get your cake and a birthday song (hopefully only if appropriate)...

I let our shore side concierge know that we were celebrating a wedding anniversary on an upcoming cruise when we were asked about our cabin and reservation preferences.  I was told that she would alert the M'D at Murano so that something special could be arranged.  For us, the day will be special enough with or without a cake or a song...but I do understand the sentiment and think it can be a nice touch.  We'll see what happens...our cruise is about 3 weeks out...

We just got off a western med cruise and had noted that we were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. We got a postcard under the door that said “Happy Anniversary”.... 🤷🏼‍♀️

We celebrated our 34th anniversary aboard the Silhouette on March 20, 2019, we did not hire any package, we only registered the anniversary date in our reservation, we received the decoration at the door, a bottled Champagne in our room, The Swans in our bed and the cake at dinner

Sometimes they do nothing. On our last cruise, they brought us a beautiful little chocolate anniversary cake. Our steward delivered a bottle of 'champagne' to our cabin along with a card. I thought it was lovely.  If you want to be sure that your wife receives something, though, you should make arrangements for a gift. Don't depend on Celebrity and then be disappointed.

Bingo! And not all of those coincide with the actual date but are still “celebrations of” vacations. When it seems like everyone is doing it (either being there on the day or marking an earlier or later cruise as a celebration of it), it can become tedious. Especially the singing in the dining room.

A couple of years ago I took my parents on a cruise on another line. One night there must have been 12 different celebrations in the MDR at least. Our servers were constantly running between checking on us and having to sing. Our main server even jokingly asked us if we wanted to celebrate anything while everyone else seemed to be. We understood and did not have anywhere to be, so the delayed dessert was not a huge issue - but so many definitely can affect service for everyone else. Especially when as many servers as possible are expected by management to participate when a guest is sung to.

(And that is not even counting the people who will claim an event to try and get something special - one of the main reasons a lot of land-based restaurants have stopped the practice or gone to a “club” system where you have to subscribe, show the email, and you only have a limited time (sometimes the day of only) to use the present.)

We just returned from a TA cruise on the Infinity..celebrating our 30th anniversary, which was noted on our reservation....received NOTHING! Also,  our TA had paid for something to be delivered to our room but we did not receive that either!

Now, this did not bother us really, but felt bad when the TA mentioned she had ordered something and asked if we got it and enjoyed it....

The trip was still the best one yet!  LOVE Celebrity!

We were also disappointed by Celebrity ignoring an important wedding anniversary on Equinox last year. No acknowledgement at all even though the reps we talked to always mentioned it when servicing the booking. I agree, don’t count on anything and be pleasantly surprised if they make a gesture onboard.

Your comment inspired me to call Celebrity just now and let them know that we're celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary on our 12/13/19 Silhouette sailing.  When we booked they had offered to do something but we're pretty quiet people and I had declined the offer.  Seeing those swans and knowing how much my  wife would enjoy that changed my mind.

To me it's not the dollar cost of the items that matters, it's the value of the their gesture.

We celebrated my husband’s 65th birthday on the Millennium in June. We booked dinner in the Tuscan Grill. The wonderful staff sang and presented him with a cake. Our fabulous room attendant made a special towel cake and he received a couple of cards from staff. All a very nice surprise.

Usually they do nothing unless you mention it to someone wherever you are dining that night. Then you get a little cake. We cruise every year for our anniversary on one of 3 cruiselines, always note it on the reservation, and have never received champagne. A couple of times I've had a balloon outside the door for a birthday on RC.

We got married at the first port on a 9 night cruise.   When we got back on board,  the security officer asked if Celebrity knew about our wedding.  I told him it was noted in our booking,  but doubt they really knew.  He said, "They do know" and wrote down our cabin number.   Later that day, our keys wouldn't work.  We went to GS and she gave us new cards.  Security had upgraded us to the premium drink package!  Then, our waiter brought us a cake for dessert that said Happy Wedding.   On the last night, he brought another one that said Happy Honeymoon.   So sweet!

We just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary onboard Eclipse from Vancouver to Hawaii. We had indicated in the planner that it was our anniversary. We boarded in Vancouver & the security man said welcome aboard, hope you enjoy your anniversary!  We had balloons, chocolate strawberries & a sign in our room from the Concierge, Johnna. On the actual day we received a nice bottle of champagne from Dan the Hotel Director & flowers & a bottle of red wine from the Chief Housekeeper. We ate in Murano on our anniversary, that yummy chocolate cake was served (after the strawberry bombe crepe & Grand Marnier soufflé. The next night in MDR our fabulous waiter & assistant, Aartee & Julianna brought us another yummy cake & our sommelier, Uliana kept serving me yummy champagne. It was a fabulous celebration.  Much more than we expected & we are very grateful

We are celebrating our 30th, is there a best practice to let X know? I let my TA know, but it seems to be hit or miss.

Just register or ask your TA to do it (your anniversary or Birthday, etc): In manage my booking ADD-ONS Celebrations

Bretty

I’m doing my first cruise with X next year, (Silhouette, Northern Europe), and my 50th birthday is during the trip. I wasn’t asked about celebrations by the PCC when I booked, but when taking details, including date of birth, she realised it was going to be my birthday, and offered comped dinner for 2 in any specialty restaurant of my choice.

I didn’t ask for it and didn’t expect it but it was a nice gesture. The comped dinner doesn’t show on my reservation for me, but I’m told it does show to staff and I have an email confirming it, and just need to book when on board. I’m thinking it’s gonna be Murano. I’m not expecting anything else, so if there is anything else then great, equally so if not.

We sail each year on our anniversary and it is noted in our reservation. We've never gotten any recognition but this year our cabin was decorated with rose petals on the bed and towel swans intertwined. We were surprised and thrilled. A sweet gesture.

I think the moral to this story is if you want something special done for your birthday/anniversary...you should do it yourself.  That way you can’t be disappointed.

Carnival Celebration Itineraries

Carnival celebration review, review of carnival celebration.

The 2022-built Carnival Celebration cruise ship is CCL fleet 's second newest and largest liner of the Carnival XL-Class. All three units in this series are from the German shipbuilder Meyer Werft (shipyard Turku Finland ). As with all other "Fun Ships", the shipowner is Carnival Corporation - the world's largest passenger shipping company .

The vessel (IMO number 9837456) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311001223) and registered in Nassau . Before its arrival in the USA, the vessel was Panama-flagged (MMSI 352898755).

The XL-Class is similar as design and facilities to HELIOS-Class ships produced for Carnival Corporation's brands Costa and AIDA (all by Meyer Werft in Papenburg Germany ). Other EXCELLENCE-Class liners (Carnival Celebration sisterships) are Carnival Mardi Gras (2021), Carnival Jubilee (2023), P&O Iona (2020), P&O Arvia (2022), Costa Smeralda (2019), Costa Toscana (2021), AIDAnova (2018), AIDAcosma (2021).

Carnival Celebration cruise ship

Carnival XL-Class ship design features a new (red-white-navy blue) hull and was created by the NYC-based naval architecture firm "Bluarch Architecture". Among the world's largest passenger ships , the Celebration has length 1130 ft (344 m), passenger capacity 5200 (lower berths) and boasts the most advanced maritime technologies as well as various fleet-first and industry-first innovations.

Like the sisterships, Carnival Celebration has the second-at-sea roller coaster. The facility ("BOLT Ultimate Sea Coaster") was built by Maurer Rides ( Munich Germany -based company) specializing in roller coaster design and manufacturing. The race track has length 244 m (800 ft), with twists, turns, drops and speeds up to 64 kph (40 mph). Individual speeds are posted after the race. Carnival's roller coaster is all-electric and allows 2 riders to race along in motorbike-like vehicles at height 57 m (187 ft) above the sea. The experience features breathtaking top-deck 360-degree views and ends with a high-speed turn around the funnel/smokestack.

On January 25, 2019, was announced that the new Carnival XL-class vessel will have 6x themed zones/neighborhoods - Celebration Central, The Gateway ("French Quarter" on Mardi Gras), Lido-Pool, 820 Biscayne ("La Piazza" on Mardi Gras), Summer Landing, The Ultimate Playground.

Decks and Cabins

Carnival Celebration staterooms (a total of 2641 passenger cabins) are divided into 22 different categories, including 2-deck apartments (duplex suites) and 80 wheelchair-accessible cabins (for disabled passengers). All cabin bathrooms feature CCL fleet's first glass-door showers and in-shower shaving bar. Over 70% of all staterooms are outside, 300 pairs are connecting/family cabins.

The boat has 18 decks , of which 15 are passenger-accessible and 11 with cabins.

Cabin balconies are accessed via sliding floor-ceiling glass doors. The lounge area is furnished with new-type sofabeds (couch bed with footstools opening up for storage), under-bed storage (for suitcases), flexible reading lamps (bedside), mini-refrigerator with transparent glass door, plenty of power outlets, USB ports (on the vanity table and bedside), more shelving (for electronic devices), large wardrobe (with folding shelves, sliding shoe rack, 2 pull-out bins).

Like the Vista-class Carnival liners, Celebration has Havana staterooms with a patio (indoor-outdoor space) with direct access to an exclusive Sundeck area with loungers, Bar and swimming pool. Another Vista-class type of cabins are Family Harbor (clustered near Camp Ocean/kids club) and with direct access to the exclusive Family Harbor Lounge. Cloud 9 Spa staterooms traditionally offer exclusive amenities, including premium bathrobes and slippers and Elemis brand toiletries.

The new Carnival ship Celebration offers 180+ suites in 11 categories, including CCL's new premium category "Carnival Excel" suites (32 staterooms in 4 categories) with new VIP amenities and exclusive access to Loft 19 (resort-style, open-air sundeck). All ship suites offer a VIP amenities package including priority boarding/debarkation, bottled water upon arrival, priority MDR (main dining room) seating, plush bathrobes. Passengers in "Carnival Excel" suites receive as additional amenities:

  • Dedicated concierge phone line
  • Unlimited access to Loft 19
  • Guaranteed specialty dining times (except Bonsai Teppanyaki, and Chef's Table)
  • Complimentary room service, laundry, and Bottomless Bubbles soda package
  • Fresh fruit basket and sparkling wine upon arrival
  • Upgraded bathroom amenities

Celebration Central (midship location on decks 6-7-8) is an expanded Atrium concept combining a day-to-night entertainment complex with a bar lounge (overlooking the ship's starboard side) with 3-decks high floor-ceiling windows.

The Atrium's Lobby level (deck 6) has a large Center Stage (portside) for live performances and is served by the Tropicale Bar. The Atrium's mid-level (deck 7) is integrated into the Casino Louge served by the Aquaria Bar (featuring glass murals by Luciano Vistosi, from the ship Carnival Victory). Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Carnival Celebration's main dining rooms feature select items from the onboard steakhouse, available for an additional fee. Seafood Shack serves lunch and dinner and is priced a la carte starting at $4.

The ship has a Japanese specialty restaurant (named Bonsai Teppanyaki) located within the Bonsai Sushi restaurant (on Promenade-Havana Deck). The restaurant offers authentic Far East dishes and a live cooking show performance (by the chefs) at custom-built cooking stations positioned at the center of an 8-seat dining table. Due to the room's limited seating, reservations are required. Each meal at Bonsai Teppanyaki starts with a sampling of 5 appetizers (Miso Soup, Pork Belly Yakitori, Spicy Tuna on Rocks). Combo dinners are also offered. Each meal ends with the specialty desserts "Chocolate Bento Box" and "Green Tea Ice Cream". Available on all Fun Ships is Chef's Table (VIP dining experience / 12-guest capacity) that includes multicourse dinner with ship's Master Chef, private cocktail reception and galley/kitchen tour. Carnival Celebration Wiki

The vessel's name (Carnival Celebration, IMO number 9837456) was announced on August 21, 2020. The boat's arrival in 2022 (inaugurated in November in PortMiami ) was planned to coincide with CCL's 50th anniversary. The sistership Mardi Gras was originally scheduled for inauguration on February 6, 2021, leaving out Port Canaveral . Carnival Cruise Line 's 50th Birthday was celebrated in March 2022, with a series of commemorative cruises (Sailabrations) featuring unique onboard entertainment/events and special itineraries.

CCL's President Christine Duffy commented, "The name Carnival Celebration couldn't be more perfect for a ship that will be a key component of our 50th Birthday festivities. Many thanks to our celebrity partners who helped us officially "unbox the fun" and reveal the name of a ship that promises to be a spectacular addition to our fleet. Carnival Celebration is our 50th Birthday present to our guests!"

Like most large -sized newbuilds , the new Carnival Celebration is LNG-powered , with 4x Caterpillar Marine LNG engines (model MaK 16M-46DF) generating combined output 57,2 MW. The propulsion system is based on two Azimuting thrusters with combined power output 37 MW. The ship has 3x LNG tanks (cryogenic steel) with total capacity ~3200 m3. Two of the tanks are larger (length 35 m / 115 ft, diameter 8 m / 26 ft, gas capacity 1525 m3), while the 3rd tank has length 28 m (92 ft), diameter 5 m (16 ft) and gas capacity 520 m3. The vessel's bunkering takes ~8 hours and her LNG capacity is enough for ~14 days of operation (navigation and onboard electricity production).

For its LNG-bunkering operations in Florida (at homeports PortMiami and Port Canaveral ), CCL-Carnival partnered with Royal Dutch Shell plc as fuel supplier.

The shipbuilding order (Meyer Turku yard number / hull 1397) was placed on September 6, 2016. Carnival Celebration's construction at Turku Shipyard Finland officially started on January 13, 2021, with the steel-cutting ceremony (yard/hull number 1397). The special event was attended by Ben Clement (CCL's Senior VP of Newbuilds, Refurbishments and Product Innovation) and Tim Meyer (Meyer Turku's CEO).

The ship was launched/floated out from drydock on February 11, 2022. The ceremony was attended by Tim Meyer and Ben Clement. The coin-ceremony (held on June 15th at Meyer Turku) was attended by Vincenzo Alcaras (Captain), Fabien Gervaise (Chief Engineer), Pierre Camilleri (Hotel Director) as well as by members of CCL's New Build Department and Meyer Turku representatives.

The ship was officially delivered from Meyer Turku to CCL on November 2, 2022. The delivery ceremony was attended by Tim Meyer and Christine Duffy (CCL). The maiden voyage departed from Southampton on November 6th.

The liner's Senior Officers are Vincenzo Alcaras (Captain since 2006 on Carnival Miracle, with CCL since 1996), Fabien Gervaise (Chief Engineer since 2013 on Carnival Breeze, with CCL since 2000), and Pierre Camilleri (Hotel Director, with CCL since 2004).

Carnival Celebration cruise ship construction

On June 16, 2022, at Port Mobile (Alabama) from Carnival Ecstasy was offloaded a vintage car (Rolls Royce Saloon from 1934). The unique automobile (originally positioned outside Ecstasy's Rolls Royce Cafe) was later shipped to Finland and loaded onto Carnival Celebration (at Meyer Turku shipyard). In February 2022, CCL announced that Ecstasy (1991-built/31-years-old) and Sensation (1993-built/29-years-old) leave the fleet in 2022.

Sea trials started on September 5, 2022, in the Archipelago Sea (northeastern Baltic Sea's Turku Archipelago/Finnish territorial waters) during which officers, technicians and engineers thoroughly tested the new vessel's technical, mechanical and navigational systems (including maneuvering, endurance, speed, thrusters, steering) to determine its capability and performance. The boat was mastered by Captain Vincenzo Alcaras.

The new ship's name honors MS Celebration (1987-built/2021- scrapped as " Grand Celebration ") - CCL's last/3rd Holiday-class liner, with sisterships MS Jubilee (1986-built/2017-scrapped as "Henna") and MS Holiday (1985-built/2021-scrapped as " CMV Magellan ").

The ship's naming ceremony was on November 20, 2022, held in PortMiami and led by godmother Cassidy Gifford. Cassidy Erin Gifford (1993-born American model and actress) is the daughter of Frank Gifford (former NFL player/footballer and sports broadcaster) and Kathie Lee Gifford (TV host, also the godmother of MS Celebration, 1987-built/2021-scrapped ). Kathie Gifford served as Carnival's spokesperson in American TV campaigns (the industry's first network broadcasting ads) between 1984-2002. Cassidy Gifford's career started in 2005. Her best-known movies so far are "God's Not Dead" (2014, Christian drama/playing Kara) and "The Gallows" (2015, supernatural horror/playing Cassidy Spilker).

Carnival Celebration vs Celebrity Beyond

Carnival Celebration cruise ship

The Carnival Celebration is a fairly new ship, being built in 2022. The Celebration is named after the original Celebration that sailed with Carnival from 1987 - 2008. It has two unique zones not found on its sister ships: The Gateway, an area dedicated to travel and Carnival's history, and 820 Biscayne which has a retro-Miami vibe. The Celebrity Beyond was built in 2022. The Celebrity Beyond is a step up from its siblings, with an additional deck and more outdoor space. It still features the "Magic Carpet," a moving platform that makes using water tenders a breeze while in port, or adds outdoor dining space while at sea. This Edge-class of ship is known to feel quite different than the rest of the Celebrity fleet as it's less geared towards traditional cruise passengers.

Comparison Overview

The Celebration is considered a large size ship. Coming in at 1,130 feet long and 137 feet wide, it's roughly the length of 3.1 football fields, as wide as 2.6 tractor-trailers and the same height as a 17-story building. Compared to the Celebrity Beyond, the Celebration is 31% larger in terms of overall tons.

Carnival Celebration holds 65% more passengers than the Beyond based on double occupancy (two people per room). When you look at the "Space Ratio," or the total tonnage of a ship compared to the number of passengers, the Celebration has less space per person compared to the Beyond.

The Celebration uses a zone layout to break up large crowds across the ship, often making it feel less crowded.

Guys Pig and Anchor BarBQue on the Carnival Celebration

Food is a big part of any cruise, and the ship you choose can make a huge difference in your food experience.

The Celebration has 27 different dining options like Guys Pig and Anchor BarBQue , Guy's Burger Joint , and Big Chicken . Of those options, 19 are complementary, or included with your cruise fare. The other 8 options have an additional fee.

The Beyond has 8 fewer dining venues. Some of its popular venues are Fine Cut Steakhouse , Oceanview Cafe , and Le Petit Chef and Family . 8 of these restaurants are complementary and the other 11 have an additional fee.

If you like having a variety of places to eat, the Celebration might be a better choice. It has 42% more dining options than the Beyond.

If you're looking to avoid extra money while on board, the Celebration might be a better choice then the Beyond. More of the dining options are included in the base cruise fare, potentially saving you money.

In terms of drinks and cocktails, you have a variety of choices. The Celebration serves the Pepsi family of products. That means Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Starry, Mug Root Beer, and Mountain Dew, although the selection can vary by ship. The Beyond serves Coca Cola branded products. That includes drinks like Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and Barqs Root Beer, although the selection can vary by ship.

There are also plenty of bars available on these ships. You can check out recent the bar menus for the Celebration and the Beyond below.

Beach Pool on the Carnival Celebration

Nothing beats relaxing by a pool with a nice drink in hand as you feel the fresh sea breeze pass by you. The problem is that with thousands of people on a ship, there's not always room. If you want to spend all day for 7 days in a pool, a cruise isn't for you. You would have a much better bet choosing a resort with a huge pool complex. That being said, a quick dip in the pool can be nice on a hot day.

The Carnival Celebration has a total of 6 pools and 7 hot tubs. Tired of loud kids and splashing? 1 of the pools and 2 of the hot tubs are adults only. 2 of the pools are exclusive access, which means there's either an extra charge to access them or you need to book a certain class of cabin to have access to them.

Celebrity Beyond has fewer pools than the Celebration and fewer hot tubs. There are more exclusive pools and hot tubs on the Beyond. If you don't mind paying for exclusive access to areas in order to have less crowds, this might be a better choice.

Both ships have lots of activities to keep you busy throughout your cruise. Below you'll see a list of some of the major features on these ships. You might up paying more while on board the Celebration. Only 61% of the activities below are included in your cruise fare. On the Beyond, 67% of the activities are included at no additional cost.

Carnival is considered a mainstream cruise line. Mainstream cruise lines cater to a variety of guests, hoping to provide something for everyone. These typically cost about $100 - $350 per person per day.

Celebrity, on the other hand, is a premium cruise line. Premium cruise lines typically offer upscale food, accommodations, and service. These typically cost about $150 - $400 per person per day.

Cruise pricing is dynamic and varies for each specific sailing based on factors such as departure point, ports of call, and time of year. To get a good idea of how the pricing compares, visit the cruise line's website to price out the separate cruises or consult a travel professional.

Another way to gauge the cost of a cruise is to consider how much you'll spend on board. Even though a lot is included in the base cruise fare, you may still spend money on things like spa treatments, specialty dining, drinks, and excursions. In addition, guests can also have to pay for things like gratuities and tips.

Typically guests can expect to spend about 25 - 40% of the cost of the cruise on onboard expenses. In other words, if the cruise fare is $1,000 per person, you might spend between $250 and $400 on extra expenses.

The table below will help you compare onboard prices to see if you might spend more on a specific ship.

Celebrity Cruise Lines offers an "All Included" program. Guests who book a cruise using this promotion will have gratuities and alcohol included. Some sailings are available without this program so pay attention when booking. Typically prices are lower if they don't include "Always Included." The wifi and alcohol package are the base levels and can be upgraded for an additional cost.

USA TODAY 10Best

10 best cruise lines for every type of traveler, from adventurers to families

Danielle Bauter

May 6, 2024 // By Danielle Bauter

By Danielle Bauter May 6, 2024

Find your people on Carnival Cruise Line, one of the best for social butterflies

It's time to cast off your worries and set sail toward unforgettable experiences, charting a course for your dream vacation. But not everyone craves the same itinerary or type of cruise — some souls yearn for heart-pounding adventure, while others seek relaxation on idyllic beaches.

The good news? There's a perfect cruise vacation waiting for every type of traveler. From luxurious foodie adventures to social escapades and wellness wonders, we'll help you find the best cruises to indulge your desires. So, grab your swimsuit (or maybe your hiking boots), pack your sense of adventure, and get ready to plan your next cruise vacation.

Best cruise for the adventurer: Adventure Canada

Explore Devon Island in Nunavut during an Adventure Canada cruise

If adrenaline-fueled is how you like to cruise, then Adventure Canada is the perfect conduit. It's been a USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice favorite for Best Adventure Cruise Line for many years, and most recently it landed on the list for Best Cruise Lines for Families .

Advertisement Advertisement

Offering small-ship expedition cruises to remote areas like Greenland, Antarctica, the Canadian Arctic, and Iceland, Adventure Canada prioritizes exploration and education over typical cruise activities. Their itineraries get you off the ship and into the heart of the action, with zodiac landings, hikes, and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Itineraries that travel to Greenland and Nunavut, Canada, literally take you off the map, visiting uninhabited archipelagos like Devon Island or towns like Ilulissat, Greenland, where you could potentially spot polar bears, narwhals, and beluga whales.

Watch out for calving icebergs, though — the possibility of a tidal wave capsizing your zodiac after ice plummets into the ocean is enough to get your blood pumping.

Best cruise for the wine enthusiast: AmaWaterways

Sample wine-themed excursions with AmaWaterways

Board a dedicated "Celebration of Wine" on Best River Cruise Line winner AmaWaterways and savor itineraries that sail through famous European wine regions like France's Bourdeaux, Germany's Rhine Valley, or Portugal's Douro Valley.

The cruise becomes part of the wine experience and often features partnerships with North American wineries that bring knowledgeable wine hosts on board to lead informative tastings and discussions.

The Rhine River cruise explores towns like Rüdesheim, a German winemaking town lined with tasting rooms and vineyards. In France, Riquewihr is one of the highlights of the Alsace Wine Route. You'll then venture on to charming Strasbourg, which claims to be home to the oldest wine on Earth. Stroll through historic vineyards and choose from a carefully selected wine list that showcases local wines from the regions you explore.

Best cruise for the hopeless romantic: Windstar Cruises

Find romance on Windstar Cruises' intimate yacht cruises

Imagine sailing around the rivieras of the Mediterranean, the crystal blue water sparkling under golden rays. The gentle sway of the vessel and the vastness of the ocean set a naturally romantic tone, especially when the sails rise over the setting sun. Unlike mega-ships with thousands of passengers, Windstar keeps things intimate.

Windstar Cruises travels to dreamy destinations like Tahiti and the French Riviera with three classic sailing yachts and three all-suite motor yachts. (Its Wind Spirit vessel took the top spot for Best Adults Only Cruise this year.) The cruise line also partnered with the James Beard Foundation to offer tantalizing meals on board. Windstar caters to romance with packages and add-on options, inviting you to enjoy dreamy spots like Bora Bora with an intimate dinner under the stars or a champagne breakfast in bed.

Best cruise for the wellness warrior: Oceania Cruises

Relax with a spa treatment at Oceania's Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center

Embrace the zen: Oceania Cruises offers a comprehensive wellness experience that caters to your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The state-of-the-art Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center offers a wide range of treatments designed to promote relaxation and rejuvenation.

Ranking for Best Boutique Cruise Line , Oceania is also known for its "finest cuisine at sea" philosophy, which translates to delicious and healthy cuisine (including extensive plant-based menus) alongside its more indulgent offerings.

Aquamar's Wellness Discovery Tours are shore excursions designed to complement your onboard wellness journey. For example, you can meditate with a monk in Thailand or learn to harness the power of spiritual drumming in Australia. Oceania travels across the globe on small, luxurious ships — from Africa to the Amazon, the Baltic to the South Pacific.

Best cruise for the culture vulture: Viking

Soak up some culture with Viking's classical performances

Designed for experienced travelers ages 55 and older who are interested in topics like science, history, and gastronomy, Viking has carved a niche for itself as a leader in cultural enrichment cruises. It steers away from the typical focus on onboard activities and entertainment. Instead, meticulously crafted itineraries immerse you in the history and culture of the places you visit.

Expect longer stays in ports, allowing you to explore destinations in greater depth. A Viking Resident Historian accompanies each ocean voyage, leading roundtable discussions and lectures about a specific topic. Along with classical musicians on board, Viking invites local musicians and ensembles for special performances. With an array of itineraries on their river, ocean, and expedition cruises, Viking travels to Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Asia, and North America.

It's no wonder Viking's extensive fleet of vessels has consistently ranked as reader-voted favorites for Best Boutique Cruise Line , Best Cruise Line for Solo Travelers , and Best Ocean Cruise Line .

Best cruise for the social butterfly: Carnival Cruise Line

Party with fellow social butterflies on Carnival Breeze

Party lovers, unite! Carnival Cruise Line has you covered if you're constantly seeking social stimulation. The cruise line thrives on creating a fun and lively atmosphere on all of its ships. Carnival Vista, Carnival Breeze, and Carnival Celebration took the top three spots for Best Cruise Ship for Entertainment , making them great picks for social butterflies. Known for its energetic onboard entertainment that ranges from stage shows and dance productions to poolside games and deck parties, Carnival Cruise Line offers many opportunities to mingle with other passengers.

Download Carnival's HUB app to reserve select shows, specialty dining, and spa services. With an average of about 3,000 guests on board each ship, you're sure to find other like-minded individuals who want to check out the casino or comedy club, play an intense bingo game, or dance the night away at the nightclub. Destinations include the Caribbean, Europe, Canada, and Hawaii.

Best cruise for the solo traveler: Norwegian Cruise Line

Sail into the sunset with Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line goes above and beyond to cater to solo cruisers, from dedicated living quarters and social spaces to organized activities. The studio staterooms are designed specifically for solo travelers; solo-occupancy options for balcony and ocean view staterooms provide more personal space and a touch of luxury.

Whether you choose to visit destinations like Hawaii, South America, or the Greek Isles, you'll do so in style on this USA TODAY Readers' Choice Award winner for Best Cruise Line for Solo Travelers .

You'll also have exclusive access to the Studio Lounge, a social hub where you can relax, meet other solo cruisers, and enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks throughout the day. Norwegian Cruise Line organizes social events specifically for solo travelers, ranging from casual meet-and-greets to group shore excursions, providing opportunities to connect with others and avoid feeling isolated. And if you crave solitude, you can find that too.

Best cruise for the LGBTQ jet-setter: Celebrity Cruises

Celebrate Pride in style every day of the year with Celebrity Cruises

"Love is love" perfectly describes the mantra of Celebrity Cruises , which goes beyond mere tolerance by actively celebrating diversity and creating an environment for LGBTQ travelers to relax and have fun. The cruise line fosters a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all passengers, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Board one of the 16 ships that travel to hundreds of ports worldwide and embark on group excursions or private journeys.

Celebrity pulls out all the stops in June with Pride Month celebrations, including theme parties and dazzling entertainment. (Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Beyond is a repeat winner for Best Cruise Ship for Entertainment .)

Many Celebrity cruises host LGBTQ welcome parties on the first night, allowing you to meet fellow travelers, mingle with crew members, and set the tone for your voyage. They also have become a champion for marriage equality at sea, offering legal same-sex wedding ceremonies on board their ships.

Best cruise for the foodie: Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Indulge your foodie fantasies on Regent Seven Seas' culinary cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises isn't just a cruise line; it's a culinary odyssey for discerning palates. The brand boasts an impressive array of specialty restaurants onboard, from French bistros to sizzling steakhouses and Asian fusion experiences, all with impeccable service and world-class cuisine. USA TODAY 10Best readers voted Seven Sea Explorer among the top 10 for Best Cruise Ship for Dining (twice!).

The Compass Rose, Regent's main dining room on all ships, transforms into an extension of the specialty restaurants, ideal for those who crave variety and exquisite flavors.

Regent also offers curated shore excursions designed for food enthusiasts, such as truffle hunting in Italy or cheesemaking tours in France, elevating your gastronomic exploration like never before. Gastronomes also can delve deeper with hands-on cooking classes led by culinary experts. Learn the secrets of French pastry or master the art of sushi making. These interactive sessions elevate your appreciation for food and empower you to recreate these dishes at home.

Best cruise for the family-friendly traveler: Royal Caribbean International

Enjoy water parks, tons of entertainment, and family-friendly dining on Royal Caribbean International

Have family, will travel! Royal Caribbean International offers something for everyone, from toddlers to teens (and parents or grandparents!). Voted among the Best Cruise Lines for Families , the award-winning Adventure Ocean youth program separates themed activities by age group, whether scavenger hunts or arts and crafts. You might have trouble luring them away.

What's a family vacation without some splashy fun? Royal Caribbean takes cruise decks to a new level with waterslides, kid-friendly splash zones, rock climbing walls, arcades, and laser tag arenas. Understanding that family vacations are about creating lasting memories, you'll also find family-friendly shore excursions like zip-lining through rainforests or exploring ancient ruins.
