Justin and Tony really friggin' killed it that night!! The Friday sky was lit up with electricity, enough Sparks to RAISE THE DEAD!!!
Before all that though, Valentine's set was pretty great, gad me and a handful of other guys throwing down moves while the crowds started rolling in. DanielDeluxe kept the torch lit and the crowd hyped all the way to the start of Dance With The Dead. Knitting Factory is a great venue, a cool and cozy dive, a stellar place for the crowd that was drawn. Tony's solos were phenomenal and kept recharching the mosh pit over and over. Twas the night to be loved to death!!!
Shoutouts to the guy with the flashlight that helped one homie tie his shoe and helped pick up the fallen moshers. Keep on rockin' guy!!

The location where the concert was held was a bit hard to find, and lacked adequate parking outside.I thoroughly enjoyed the music that Dance with the Dead put on at the Riot Room in KC. Just as high energy and upbeat as it is to listen to online. These guys really put on a show which in my mind will be remembered for a long time. Their stage setup was pretty cool as well, with fog breathing skulls and witches scattered around. A perfect duo to listen to as it gets closer to Halloween, but great to listen to anytime of the year!
Absolutely incredible sound and amazing energy. The performers have such enthusiasm and show a great deal of passion for what they do and share this with the crowd. I had the pleasure of speaking with them after the show and they are both very nice and approachable people would love to see them back in Glasgow again and would absolutely recommend them to anyone who might be interested in seeing them perform.
Mellow Fields and Le Matos stole the show for me. DwtD was awesome as always. The sets started promptly and merch was available from all the artists. Lee's Palace is a fantastic dive with a generously sized dance floor, a slim but well curated selection of beers and quick service even when it's crowded.
They pack such a power in their music, they really give everything to it, you can really see they're giving everything, really worth experiencing!!! and had a chance to meet them at the end, really nice guys!!!!
Lebrock was also a super cool surprise, a new fan here!
Exactly what I hoped for. Listen to their albums, add in live guitars, high energy, perfect pacing, spilled drinks and a crowd that doesn't need prompting. Drop in a mindbending synth metal cover of Master of Puppets and you've got a night you won't forget.
Honestly I only went to the show last night to see Daniel Deluxe. I decided to stick around to see what Dance With The Dead was any good, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. These guys are amazing live.
I loved the show! Great setlist! Much love!Great work with making it all sound as great as it did. Nothing to complain about here.
I would love to watch them again!
My face melted. Super high energy and really fun show! Would go again. 5 stars. Really enjoy being at a smaller venue too. Apparently I need 30 words in here.

About dance with the dead.
Dance with the Dead aka Justin Pointer and Tony Kim are two American musicians from California. They produce electronic music based on melodies made with synthesizers, with the peculiarity of having sounds coming from the 80s, as well as guitar riffs due to their past in Heavy Metal.
These two musicians have known each other since childhood and were even neighbors, they’ve played guitar since they’re childs until today in their compositions and in their concerts. Their influences vary between Metal bands such as “Mötley Crüe”, “Pantera”, “Def Leppard” and electronic pillars such as “Daft Punk” and “Kavinsky”. Their visual universe focuses on horror film themes (special mention to Frankenstein), as well as melodies of their tracks. The first album “Out of Body” was released in October 2013, during the Halloween celebrations. Then followed “Near Dark” in 2014 and “The Shape” more recently in 2016 and two EPs released in 2014. During their Lives, they have the particularity of performing electric guitar performances, giving some exceptional shows.

Magic Sword and Dance With the Dead bring theatrical electronic-rock show to Lucky You Lounge
Synthwave heavy-hitters Magic Sword and Dance With the Dead are wrapping up their co-headliner North American tour in Washington state, playing Lucky You Lounge on Saturday night before finishing up in Seattle on Sunday.
Since 2013, both Magic Sword and Dance With the Dead have made a name for themselves by combining epic, danceable and multi-layered synthesizer soundscapes with a punchy rock edge. In a scene dominated primarily by laptop DJs, watching these trios jam onstage with actual instruments is a breath of fresh air.
While the nature of their sound and stage presence makes both bands somewhat niche, they have celebrated notable victories – Dance With the Dead’s latest album, “Driven to Madness,” broke into iTunes’ top three electronic albums upon release, and Magic Sword’s songs have been featured in the video game Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number and the official trailer for the hit film “Thor: Ragnarok.”
Putting their own spin on the “wall of synthesizers” sound popularized by 1980s film scores – and in more recent history, “Stranger Things” – these bands manage to be retro and fresh at the same time. “Mixing cinematic synth music from my childhood with dance music, I arrogantly thought I had come up with a new genre,” said the Keeper, the frontman and lead songwriter for Magic Sword, a Boise-based band.
“Then I got on SoundCloud and realized there’s this guy named Lazerhawk who’s already been doing it for five years!” he said. “But I talked to him – Lazerhawk is an awesome dude. I honestly thought I had come up with a unique idea, but I didn’t – which is great because there’re so many great musicians out there.”
Dance With the Dead and Magic Sword announced their 2020 co-headliner tour in late 2019, and such was their confidence going into it that Magic Sword chose to release their new album “Endless” on the first day of the tour – March 27, 2020. As we all know, March 2020 was not a great time for the entertainment industry – or anyone else, for that matter.
“We were pretty excited, so when it got canceled, it was a mixture of emotions,” the Keeper said. “You’re devastated, but you also feel guilty for focusing on petty things – because people are dying .”
“We’re not a huge band,” he said. “We had ordered many thousands of dollars of merchandise for the tour, and we just sat on it for a while – but we depend on that income.” When Magic Sword realized that the COVID-19 pandemic was a persistent one, the merch was posted for sale online and quickly sold out.
The fanbase for synthwave is anything but large, but it’s dedicated. It’s no surprise that such an image-forward band who distributes full-blown comic books to coincide with album releases managed to push the merch regardless of the tour’s cancellation. Fast forward two years, and Magic Sword and Dance With the Dead finally rallied the troops to embark on a breakneck-speed tour to make up for lost time.
“This has been a tough tour – really, really tough,” the Keeper said. “I think we’re trying to subconsciously make up for lost dates, so there’s not a lot of days off.” Thirty-nine shows in 53 days is no joke – one stint in early April forced the bands to perform seven days in a row before taking just one day off and then doing it all over again.
To top it off, the Keeper attributes extra stress to co-headlining. “Each band has full-production and headliner needs. We’ve been friends with Dance With the Dead for a while – communication is excellent,” he said. “If I was doing this with another band I didn’t know, there’d probably be some fights. I’ll pick friendship over musicianship every time on the road.”
Thankfully, Magic Sword didn’t have to choose this time. I attended their performance in Austin on April 30. Both bands are more than capable of delivering exhilarating shows with soaring synths, blistering guitar solos and crushing drum beats while lights flash and pulse intoxicatingly above and behind the two trios.
Not quite a rock show, not quite an electronic show, synthwave occupies a unique space between the two, and it’s not something to be missed. Co-headliners Magic Sword and Dance With the Dead with guest Droid Bishop headline Lucky You Lounge on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.

The Horror of Dance with the Dead: A Q&A with One of the Most Beloved Bands in Synthwave
Around 1986 a boy saw a horror film that he probably shouldn’t have. In catching George Pavlou’s Rawhead Rex , the seven-year-old witnessed an unhinged pagan god unleashing a bloodbath on the Irish countryside. Even if he shouldn’t have seen the Clive Barker-penned film, we can all be glad he did. It led to a lifelong love of horror that would stick with a young Justin Pointer, setting the stage for him to form the globally renowned metal-synthwave act Dance with the Dead with fellow horror fan Tony Kim.
“It just terrified me,” Pointer said in a Skype interview he and Kim did with Bloody Disgusting recently, fresh off the release of the music video for the kinetic banger “From Hell.” “From there, I’ve always been into horror and sci-fi movies — getting scared.”
Dance with the Dead — formed in 2013 — tap into their ‘80s horror film roots in both their music and in the art they choose for their albums. The cover for their latest album, Loved to Death , features a dark, red-eyed ghoul-of-a-man creeping up behind an unsuspecting young woman, his malintent oozing from his face. It was created by Marc Schoenbach, well-known to BD readers for his compelling DVD cover art. Previous albums such as The Shape and Out of Body all feature transformed humans emanating dark energy. There are no palm trees or neon grids here.
It’s not the just the visuals that draw from classic horror. Their music — a deft blend of metal guitar riffs and wailing leads with minor-key synth arrangements and danceable beats — and their song titles all draw from their interests in the visuals and music of horror films from the likes of Dario Argento and John Carpenter, among many others. Kim mentions Argento’s 1985 picture Demons when I ask him about a favorite, for lack of a better term, “so-bad-it’s-good” horror film.
“I mean, the film’s got punk-rocker demons,” Kim said, laughing.
So how did two metal heads/lifelong friends from Orange County, California, with a horror-film fascination end up creating a globe-trotting, best-selling synthwave band? How do they come up with their haunting-but-fun blend of rock and electronic music? Where do they plan to take this thing in the years to come? In this interview, conducted as the duo prepare for a European tour that begins this month, Kim and Pointer tackle those questions and many more. Are you ready for these screams and whispers?
Aaron Vehling: You two have never been averse to bringing your music to the stage. Six years into Dance with the Dead, it seems like you’re touring North America and Europe quite often. As I understand it, you tour about three times a year?
TK: Justin and I both have backgrounds in bands — punk rock, hard rock, [and] metal bands. It’s in us to want to perform as musicians rather than just releasing [our music] on the internet and hoping it catches on that way. It’s in our DNA to want to perform in front of a crowd and do our thing.
JP: We love it, but at the same time it’s our job. We really have to thank our fans for making it a full-time job. We’ve got so many downloads and sales, which freed up time to go on tour.
AV: On your records you have a deft, artful use of guitars — they complement the synths melodically and harmonically — but in a live setting they really kill. In general, from songwriting to your concerts, you two seem to have a deep emphasis on performance. (Reporter’s Note: At shows Kim and Pointer alternate their approach: sometimes both are on axes and let the machines do their work, at other times it’s one of them on guitar and another behind the synthesizers, or both are at the keys. In all circumstances, the result is spectacular.)
TK: Justin said it best to me… there’s something you can’t get with all the millions of dollars of lighting and stage props compared to just an artist having energy on stage and rocking out. For instance, if I went to see a band with a stripped-down stage and these guys were fucking rocking out, that… would blow me away.
JP: A perfect example of that— to go on stage with basically just a guitar amp — is Rage Against the Machine. They never dabbled in stage theatrics and can own a stadium, as far as energy.
AV: So did your background in bands influence your decision to do guitar-driven synthwave?
TK: When we first started off, I didn’t want any guitars. Justin was like, “Do a stupid solo” — there are not a lot of electronic bands with guitars incorporated. Obviously, there are guitars on the first record, but something was holding me back. I wasn’t super confident. We didn’t know what we were doing. As we kept making more records and more songs, guitars in a way also kind of became like the vocal part of the music, along with the synthesizers. Rather than just doing a fancy solo, we come up with catchy melodic riffs that anyone can kind of hum. That’s what I look like when I track something: more a member than being super shreddy or fancy.
AV: The guitars becoming vocals — I can hear that. As for the synths, I hear a lot of influence from folks like John Carpenter.
TK: Justin was a lot more familiar with electronic music than I was. I’ve known Justin pretty much my entire life. He’s always liked, let’s say “EDM” to simplify it. He was like, “You should check out these guys… maybe it’ll help trigger something. Obviously, I’ve always liked big guys like Justice and Daft Punk; but… also John Carpenter and even guys like Hans Zimmer are meshed in all our experiences.
AV: How do you two typically write and record your albums in a practical sense?
TK: Literally today I woke up, heard a bass line in my head and just wanted to lay it down really quickly before I forgot it. That ended up becoming like half a song. I can’t stop — it kept flowing out of me. There are times when Justin and I feel the need to sit down and write songs right now , because being a musician you hear melodies and beats and riffs in your head all goddamn day. In terms of technology — what we have now compared to 15-20 years ago — we can just go in our bedroom and lay something down real quick.
JP: Tony lives in Orange County and I live in Washington. Usually how it starts is through email we throw riffs back and forth together with Logic sessions.
AV: When you’re playing in front of audiences in all of those different places, what do you learn that you bring to your music on subsequent albums?
TK: We learn off the crowd what kind of energy they go off. For Loved to Death , Justin and I were like, “Now that we know what the crowd gets into, we have to capture that energy in these songs.”
AV: Anyone have a favorite horror score?
JP: Disasterpeace’s It Follows . He just nailed it: every scene, every synth sound. In terms of modern-day scores, it’s one of best.
AV: Is there a movie you’d love to rescore?
TK: I think Justin will say Christine . [Justin agreed.]
JP: I’ve got two that pop out right away: Gladiator and Christine .
AV: What is it about Christine ?
JP: It was perfectly done. The directing and acting is perfect.
TK: When I first watched Christine in high school, the score reminded me more of something like Tales from the Crypt almost. It was a more song arrangement than sounds or a spooky synthesizer in the background. It’s one of my favorite Carpenter scores for sure.
JP: Just like Halloween will not work without that theme, Christine is in the same boat. That movie would not work without the exact score that’s on it.
AV: If you didn’t actually do a rescore, perhaps because an existing score is just too good and memorable, would you consider getting into film scoring?
TK: That’s our next goal. We’ve always incorporated some kind of score piece in our records — a mellow score piece in the middle of an album (though not on Loved to Death ). We love scores. If a horror director approached us, we’d be open to scoring.
JP: I don’t think we’re looking for rom-coms. [laughs]
AV: I could see you rescoring You’ve Got Mail . That would be wild. Anything else you’re up to? What’s next for you guys, in addition to the tour? A new album?
TK: No album, but we have more tours coming up after the European run.
JP: As far as an album, we’re always writing, but one thing we’d like to dabble with in future EPs and albums, if the situation presents itself, is working with vocals (in a collaboration). We don’t know who we’d work with at this point, but it’s something on the horizon for us.
AV: Before we sign off: What do you want people to get out of your music?
JP: We want our music to touch people emotionally. We’d like people to create stories of their own in their heads with our music. We have always been super passionate about all kinds of music and the escape from reality that it can bring.
This interview has been edited for clarity.
Dance with the Dead kick off their headlining Europe/UK tour on Feb. 17 in Cardiff, Wales, UK and concludes it on March 9 in Amsterdam.

“Chucky” – Devon Sawa & Don Mancini Discuss That Ultra-Bloody Homage to ‘The Shining’
Only one episode remains in Season 3 of “ Chucky ,” and what a bloody road it’s been so far, especially for actor Devon Sawa . The actor has now officially died twice on screen this season, pulling double duty as President James Collins and body double Randall Jenkins.
If you thought Chucky’s ruthless eye-gouging of the President was bloody, this week’s Episode 7 traps Randall Jenkins in an elevator that feels straight out of an iconic horror classic.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with series creator Don Mancini and actor Devon Sawa about that ultra-bloody death sequence and how the actor inspires Mancini’s writing on the series.
Mancini explains, “ Devon’s a bit of a muse. Idle Hands and Final Destination is where my Devon Sawa fandom started, like a lot of people; although yours may have started with Casper . I was a bit too old for that. But it’s really just about how I love writing for actors that I respect and then know. So, it’s like having worked with Devon for three years now, I’m just always thinking, ‘Oh, what would be a fun thing to throw his way that would be unexpected and different that he hasn’t done?’ That’s really what motivates me.”
For Sawa, “Chucky “ is an actor’s dream in that the series gives him not one but multiple roles to sink his teeth into, often within the same season. But the actor is also a huge horror fan, and Season 3: Part 2 gives him the opportunity to pay homage to a classic: Kubrick’s The Shining .
CHUCKY — “There Will Be Blood” Episode 307 — Pictured in this screengrab: (l-r) Devon Sawa as President James Collins, K.C. Collins as Coop — (Photo by: SYFY)
“Collectively, it’s just amazing to put on the different outfits, to do the hair differently, to get different types of dialogue, “ Sawa says of working on the series. “The elevator scene, it’s like being a kid again. I was up to my eyeballs in blood, and it felt very Kubrick. Everybody there was having such a good time, and we were all doing this cool horror stuff, and it felt amazing. It really was a good day.”
Sawa elaborates on being submerged in so much blood, “ It was uncomfortable, cold, and sticky , and it got in my ears and my nose. But it was well worth it. I didn’t complain once. I was like, ‘This is why I do what I do, to do scenes like this, ‘ the scenes that I grew up watching on VHS cassette, and now we’re doing it in HD, and it’s all so cool. “
It’s always the characters and the actors behind them that matter most to Mancini, even when he delights in coming up with inventive kills and incorporating horror references. And he’s killed Devon Sawa’s characters often. Could future seasons top the record of on-screen Sawa deaths?
“Well, I guess we did it twice in season one and once in season two, “ Mancini counts. “So yeah, I guess I would have to up the ante next season. I’ll really be juggling a lot of falls. But I think it’s hopefully as much about quality as quantity. I want to give him a good role that he’s going to enjoy sinking his teeth into as an actor. It’s not just about the deaths.”
Sawa adds, “Don’s never really talked about how many times could we kill you. He’s always talking about, ‘How can I make this death better ,’ and that’s what I think excites him is how he can top each death. The electricity, to me blowing up to, obviously in this season, the eyes and with the elevator, which was my favorite one to shoot. So if it goes on, we’ll see if he could top the deaths.”

The actor has played a handful of distinctly different characters since the series launch, each one meeting a grisly end thanks to Chucky. And Season 3 gave Sawa his favorite characters yet.
“I would say the second one was a lot of fun to shoot, “ the actor says of Randall Jenkins. “The President was great. I liked playing the President. He was the most grounded, I hope, of all the characters. I did like playing him a lot.” Mancini adds, “He’s grounded, but he’s also really traumatized, and I thought you did that really well, too.”
The series creator also reveals a surprise correlation between President James Collins’ character arc and a ’90s horror favorite.
“ I saw Devon’s role as the president in Season 3; he’s very Kennedy-esque, “ Mancini explains. “ But then given the supernatural plot turns that happen, to me, the analogy is Michelle Pfeiffer in What Lies Beneath , the character that is seeing these weird little things happening around the house that is starting to screw with his sanity and he starts to insist, ‘I’m seeing a ghost, ‘ and his spouse thinks he’s nuts. So I always like that. That’s Michelle Pfeiffer in What Lies Beneath , which is a movie I love.”
The finale of “Chucky” Season 3: Part 2 airs Wednesday, May 1 on USA & SYFY.

Megadeth announces North America tour, closing out with a Nashville stop
Megadeth has announced a 2024 fall "Destroy All Enemies Tour" that will take them all across North America. On Sept. 28, the thrash metal band will end their tour in Nashville at the Municipal Auditorium.
The 33-show tour, produced by Live Nation, will feature support from Mudvayne and All That Remains.
The two-month tour will kick off on Aug. 2 in Rogers, AR before hitting cities in Texas, California, Nevada, Florida, North Carolina and more.
The band, comprised of vocalist and guitarist Dave Mustaine, bassist James LoMenzo, guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari and drummer Dirk Verbeuren, is known for songs "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" and "Symphony of Destruction."
They most recently released their 2022 album "The Sick, The Dying...And The Dead!"
“Our ‘Crush The World’ tour has been a tremendous experience for the four of us,” said singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine in a statement.
“We are all playing tight, and that has made it possible for me to really focus on solos and singing, we are playing more songs than ever before, and we are closer to each other, onstage AND off. I’m excited to see Mudvayne, and All That Remains. Join us as we DESTROY ALL ENEMIES.”
How do I get tickets for the Megadeth 2024 tour?
Tickets for all the dates will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. local time on Friday, April 26.
Fans can access a presale for the Cyber Army and Megadeth Digital members at megadeth.com .
'Crushed': Grateful Dead-themed music fest canceled with no refunds 10 days before event
Deadheads are venting their anger about the last-minute cancelation with no refunds, calling the skull & roses festival in ventura, california, the new fyre fest..
Not only will you not be able to sing the lyrics to your favorite Grateful Dead songs alongside fellow Deadheads at the Skull & Roses festival, but you also probably won’t get a refund, either.
Chris Mitrovich, founder of the annual Grateful Dead-themed music festival, said Tuesday that “SKULL & ROSES 6” was canceled, citing “financial devastation from the 2023 show.” The four-day festival was set to kick off on April 19 in Ventura, a city on the California coast just northwest of Los Angeles.
Mitrovich says the loss from last year’s festival, which has been held annually since 2017, “made it impossible to sustain the weight of the new production.”
“We have maintained hope and exhausted every imaginable possibility, right up to this very moment," he said. "It has now become clear, however, that we have reached the end of the line. All the cards are down and there’s nothing left to see."
Here’s what we know.
No refunds available, additional details will be shared later
Skull & Roses organizers noted that while they “sincerely wished” they could refund fans for all available purchases, they do not have the ability to do so.
Tickets and hotels are not included in the “available purchases” they wish they could refund since they were “non-refundable.”
“Additional information will be provided just as soon as it becomes available and will be posted through our socials and at www.SKULLANDROSES.com ,” according to the post.
Single-day tickets began at $60 for general admission and $600 for VIP passes. Concert and hotel packages were going for upwards of $2,000, according to reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle ,
This isn’t the first time the Skull & Roses music festival has been canceled. That happened in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But that time, organizers made a concerted effort to ensure refunds were available for all ticket holders, according to reporting by SF Gate.
Deadheads express anger online, saying it was ‘Fyre Festival' all over again
Fans expressed their frustration with organizers in a Grateful Dead subreddit , saying that the cancellation would result in a number of lawsuits.
“They just screwed over a lot of peoples time 10 days out of an event," @RowdydidWrong wrote. "All those bands that were booked, made travel arrangements, all the fans. The future doesn't hold anything if this is how that goes down. Who would ever book with these folks again?”
Another user, @dravenstone, wrote that they were absolutely “crushed” by the cancelation, writing: “We have house sitters locked down, time off of work set, a road trip planned, a hotel booked, the works - not to mention a long weekend of amazing music that is now, apparently much like the money we spent for the passes … Gone.”
Another user wrote: “Credit card chargebacks, folks!”
Other Deadheads confirmed that they got the same email, with @iam_santa, writing: “Was hoping it was some kind of scam, but it seems it's not. Really frickin' lame that we were notified 10 day before the show. The no refunds (expletive) is the real kicker.”
A couple other users compared the situation to Fyre Festival , writing that “the world of festival promotion continues to get shadier and shadier. Everyone watched the Fyre Fest documentary and was like ‘Wait, it’s that easy?’"
