‘America’s Got Talent’ Finalist Drake Milligan Kicks Off Tour with Grand Ole Opry Debut

Just several weeks after landing in the Top 3 on America’s Got Talent, Drake Milligan will make his Grand Ole Opry debut on Oct. 5, joining Jamey Johnson, Breland, Maggie Rose, and more artists who will be revealed prior to the show.

“I couldn’t be more excited and honored about playing the Grand Ole Opry,” said Milligan in a statement. “To have the opportunity to step in that circle that so many legends have shared will be a dream come true.”

Just one day after the finale of America’s Got Talent , the Texas native Milligan released his debut album,  Dallas/Fort Worth , which hit No. 1 on the iTunes Country Album Chart, and landed in the Top 10 of the Billboard Country Albums Sales Chart. The album is a collection of 14 songs split between the cities of Dallas and his hometown of Fort Worth.

“Dallas, it’s polished-up boots,” Mulligan recently told American Songwriter. “It’s higher hair. It’s kind of aimed towards the future. Fort Worth, which is only 30 miles away [from Dallas] and where I grew up, is a city that’s still holding on to its traditional roots. You have the Stockyards, and you have Billy Bob’s. People are more content with this little way of life. There’s a little more dust on the boots.”

He added, “It was perfect because seven songs seemed to fit Fort Worth, aiming towards that traditional feel, and seven seemed like more polished, radio or rock and roll-inspired songs. It was a fun way to split them up, and also pay homage to my hometown.

Mulligan performed his original songs throughout the America’s Got Talent competition, including Dallas/Fort Worth single, “Sounds Like Something I’d Do,” which he performed for his audition and again for the show finale.

On Sept. 23, Milligan played his first headlining show for 6,000 fans at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth and is set to kick off his headlining tour on Oct. 5 at the Opry with shows in April 2023 making stops in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Maryland, Virginia, Texas, and other states.

Rollicking “sounds like something i’d do” was second most added at country radio.

Nashville, Tenn. – Hot off the heels of his debut album, Dallas/Fort Worth , country breakout and Stoney Creek Records recording artist Drake Milligan is on the gas again, adding dates to an already slammed tour schedule – including his Grand Ole Opry debut. Set for October 5 , his Opry debut marks another career milestone for the Billboard Emerging artist, as he aims to thrill from the moment his boot hits those historic floorboards.

Revealing eight new shows for his ongoing 2022 run, the Texas native was already on track to visit cities from coast to coast – with high profile stops like his first headline date at Billy Bob’s Texas thrilling a hometown crowd of nearly 6,000 fans last Friday (9/23).

Milligan will make additional stops in Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Texas, with his biggest moment yet – the Grand Ole Opry – kicking things off. More dates to be added soon.

The news arrives just as Milligan’s debut album smashed expectations on its September 15 arrival, with Dallas/Fort Worth hitting #1 on not just the iTunes Country Album Chart, but the ALL-GENRE iTunes Album Chart, as well as landing in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Country Albums Sales Chart.

Billboard has praised the record as “a steady mix of laid-back, ‘90s Strait inspired come-ons” and a “worthy debut from this newcomer,” while American Songwriter lauded the album “…hits on rockabilly riffs and classic honky tonk and older renderings that have been transported from bygone country days to the present, all punctuated by Milligan’s deep, baritone croon.” Milligan has also received early critical acclaim from People , Taste of Country , Parade , Country Now , Saving Country Music , Country Swag and Hollywood Life , to name a few.

That coincides with strong signals from country radio, who are predicting big things from Milligan’s rollicking “Sounds Like Something I’d Do” – the #2 most added single of the week when it dropped – and fans have the same idea. The action-packed “Sounds Like Something I’d Do” also landed at #1 on iTunes Country Songs Chart, as Milligan builds momentum into the fall.

The  America's Got Talent Season 17 finalist is hitting a vast array of USA cities from March to October of 2024. Referred to as "the new Elvis of country" by Howie Mandel , Milligan will be playing a series of original tracks while on the road (fingers crossed that he'll play the award winning "Sounds Like Something I'd Do")

Milligan released his self titled EP in 2021. "The songwriters and players here are the best in the world. I don’t want to ever lose my roots, but Nashville is like no other place in the world. The reason I came to Nashville is because all of my heroes are here. All the guys who wrote and played on my favorite songs are still so good. They wake up every day and want to write the best song they can. I wanted to learn something from every writer. Writing with those songwriters was a rite of passage for me," he said of his process of creating the album.

Drake Milligan on coming back to Memphis, touring with Co-Jo, and what he learned on “America’s Got Talent”

M EMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Rising country music sensation Drake Milligan, currently on tour with Cody Johnson, stopped by the Action News 5 studio for an exclusive interview before hitting the stage at FedExForum Saturday night.

With over 100 million on-demand worldwide streams to date, Milligan is currently on tour supporting his sophomore project, “Jukebox Songs” as well as his YouTube series, “Living Room Sessions” and YouTube short film, “Drake Milligan - Girl Problems”.

Milligan is no stranger to Memphis.  In 2016, he filmed the CMT series “Sun Records” in the Bluff City, in the role of a young Elvis Presley who he calls a musical hero.

Most recently, Milligan was a finalist on “America’s Got Talent Season 17″ and returned to his primetime roots for “America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League”.

He received a nomination for “Breakthrough Male Video of the Year” at the 2023 CMT Awards.
