The clue’s in the title. These trips are for families only (including any aunts, uncles or cousins who’d like to come along, of course). As long as you’re travelling with a child under the age of 18, you’re a family in our eyes. Plus, unlike other travel companies, children aged 17 years and younger receive a 10% discount off the price of their trip.

Travel with other families

Travelling the Intrepid way is a bit like travelling with a group of friends. These trips are made up of 3–5 like-minded families, and the kids tend to hit it off straight away, allowing you to enjoy some well-earned R&R. We often find the whole family ends up making friendships with people from all over the world, staying in touch long after the adventure ends.

Small group sizes

Intrepid’s family group sizes are small enough to avoid the crowds and reach some out-of-the-way places, but big enough for a good social mix. Our average group size of 10 allows us to hop aboard local boats, buses or trains, eat at friendly, family-run restaurants and kick back in traditional accommodation and homestays.

Action packed

We know the biggest challenge on a family trip is keeping the kids entertained. So we’ve planned in advance. Nearly all of our hotels feature pools, and each day has a great mix of action-packed adventure and flexible free time. Your local leader can also suggest activities based on your kid’s hobbies or school curriculum.

Our leaders are specially trained to run family adventures, so you’re well taken care of. You can also rest easy knowing we conduct safety assessments on all our activities to meet local standards as well as our own comprehensive safety policy.

Tour Prague - Vienna - Budapest - Moscow - St. Petersburg

Number of days: 16 Country/City: Czech Republic / Prague, Austria / Vienna, Hungary / Budapest, Russia / Moscow, St. Petersburg

During this tour, you will discovery five fascinating, imperial jewels! From the Schoenbrunn Palace in Vienna to the Kremlin and Armory Museum in Moscow, you’ll thrill at the sights and experiences on this sweeping, 16-day adventure!

1st day: Arrival in Prague. Accommodation. Folklore dinner evening. Meeting at the airport with the sign “ITBC“. Accommodation. Folklore dinner. Overnight in Prague.

2nd day: Prague city sightseeing tour.  After breakfast, our bus will pick you up for Prague City Tour. During this excursion you will see : Royal Palace, St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George Monastery and Golden Lane, Nerudova Lane, Lesser Town, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square surrounded by Old Town Hall with famous Astronomical Clock, Tyn and St. Nicholas Churches, Wenceslas Square with St. Wenceslas statue and National museum. Overnight in Prague.

3rd day: Karlovy Vary Tour. After you have breakfast, our bus takes you through the picturesque West Bohemian countryside to the situated in a beautiful wooded valley spa city - Karlovy Vary. Karlovy Vary is a world famous spa, known especially for its 12 thermal springs and both historical and modern colonnades. One of city sights you will visit is the glass exhibition at Moser factory. In addition to the curative waters you can also have delicious local wafers and traditional Becher liqueur produced from herbs. Overnight in Prague.

4th day: Prague - Vienna. Evening Dinner. We takes you to a wonderful voyage from Prague to Vienna. In the evening, we offers you to a welcome Viennese style dinner. Overnight in Vienna.

5th day: Vienna City Tour. After breakfast, we pick you up and drive around Vienna’s Ringstrasse, a leafy boulevard around the heart of the city and the location of many impressive buildings, such as the State Opera House, the Hofburg (Imperial Palace), the Museums of Fine Arts and Natural History, the Parliament, the Burgtheater, the City Hall and the University. The tour then continues to Schonbrunn Palace, the magnificent summer residence of the Hapsburg family lived e.g. Maria Teresia, where the highlight is a guided tour through the imperial apartments. A stop is also made at Belvedere Palace, the former summer residence of Prince Eugen, where the gardens offer a splendid view over the Vienna skyline. Overnight in Vienna.

6th day: Half day Vienna Woods excursion.  This excursion will show you the most beautiful sights of the southern part of the Vienna Woods. Passing the Roman City of Baden which is famous for its thermal springs, we drive through the romantic valley Helenental to the former Mayerling hunting lodge, where Crown Prince Rudolph with Baronesse Vetsera died tragically in 1889. In the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz (1133) you visit the medieval cloister which houses the remains of the last Babenberger. Then, we pass the Höldrichsmühle and arrive at the Seegrotte. After a boat ride on the largest subterranean lake in Europe you leave the Vienna Woods and return to Vienna. Overnight in Vienna.

7th day: Vienna - Budapest. Hungarian Folk Evening Dinner. We takes you to a wonderful voyage from Vienna to Budapest. In the evening, we invites you to a welcome Hungarian folklore dinner. Overnight in Budapest.

8th day: Budapest City Tour. This morning we pick you up at the hotel and take you through beautiful Budapest, you will visit the impressive neo-gotic house of Parliament (home of the holy Hungarian crown) with guidance through the Splendid Boardrooms and Impressive Staircases. You cross the Danube on the Margaret-bridge (Margaret island) and drive to the Royal castle on the Buda side, where you visit the Fishermens' bastion and the Matthias church. After the Citadel you cross Elisabet -bridge and drive the City-park towards Heroes' sqare. Passing by the Opera and St Stephen's basilica. Overnight in Budapest.

9th day: Budapest - Moscow. Evening Dinner. After landing in Moscow you will have a meeting with our company representative with the sign „ ITBC “. In the evening, we are welcome you in typical Russian restaurant for the Russian style dinner. Overnight in Moscow.

10th day: Moscow City Tour. During this tour, you will see the main landmarks including Red Square, Alexander Gardens, Lenin’s Tomb, GUM Shopping Mall, the Cathedrals of St. Basil and Our Lady of Kazan, the State History Museum of Russia, New Convent, Poklonnaya Hill and Kutuzosky avenue, “White House”, Arbat area, the Garden Ring and the Boulevard Ring roads, the historical and cultural centre of Moscow, the Bolshoy Theater, the ex-KGB building, etc. Overnight in Moscow.

11th day: Moscow Kremlin tour . Sergiev Posad tour.   After breakfast, you will be taken out to see the main tourist attraction that shouldn’t be missed by any traveller – Kremlin. You will have an excursion at this wonderful architectural ensemble and discover 3 magnificent cathedrals and Armoury Chamber. In the afternoon, you will be driven to Sergiev Posad where the famous Monastery of the Holy Trinity (Troitse Sergieva Lavra) was established. It is a real must-see place because it possesses unique collection of Icons, monuments of Old Russian architecture. There you will have an excursion provided by our skillful guide and then have a coffe/tea break at a local area. Overnight in Moscow.

12th day: Tretykov Picture Gallery. Moscow - St.Petersburg train voyage.  This day of your travel in Russia has in store an exciting journey to the State Tretyakov Picture Gallery, the national treasury of Russian fine arts and one of the most interesting museums in the world. Later evening you will be transferred to the station and depart to St. Petersburg by overnight train.

13th day: St. Petersburg city tour. Evening Dinner. After accommodation in hotel, we welcome you for a city tour to enjoy of magical splendour of the architecture of the former capital of Imperial Russia, listening the history of the Romanov's dynasty and present day life of people. You will see overwhelming Palace Square with the Winter Palace, Russian museum, the famous Nevsky Avenue, the classical ensemble of Senate Square with its famous "Bronze Horseman", the powerful St. Isaac's Cathedral, the tip of the Basil's island, the first structure of Petersburg - Peter and Paul's Fortress, beautiful Nikolsky Navy Cathedral, the spire of the Admiralty, and many other architectural monuments, bridges and embarkments. Welcome dinner in traditional restaurant. Overnight in St.Petersburg.

14th day: Petergof and Hermitage. This morning, we will visit Peterhof, the former residence of Russian tsars. Your guide will show you beautiful palaces and museums, masterpieces of landscape design and gorgeous fountains. We will leave the city of Petergof to continue our tour in Hermitage to explore a rich collection of western European painting including the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Rembrandt, Rubens, Matisse, Picasso and other outstanding painters. Overnight in St.Petersburg.

15th day: Tsarskoe Selo tour. This day, you will visit Tsarskoe Selo, the official summer Residence of the Russian imperial Court. Overnight in St.Petersburg.

16th day: Departure day.

It was my very first Intrepid trip and I enjoyed every moment of it. It was more than I expected! I loved the chemistry of the group (I miss them dearly), the accommodation location as well as the included activities. Being in a small group also has a lot of advantages like getting to know each of them personally and build friendships even after the trip. I was just so glad I took the trip through Intrepid!

Zagreb to Athens: Adriatic & Ancient Capitals

This trip was overall in one word... amazing. The destinations covered were amazing & beautiful. It was handy to have everything sorted out : the accommodation (mix of hostels & hotels), the transportation and many of the activities. Most of the places stayed did not have breakfast, but it was stated clearly that they wouldn't. Some of the places that had breakfast included a selection of breads, cereals and coffee - everything that you need. Croatia blew my mind.. The Croatia part of the tour was very in depth and I have a great idea of what the country is all about now & I also want to go back to see more in the future - The tour goes to cities, lakes, medieval villages, islands, beaches and has stops along the way to each usually. Note that on occasion there are stops along the way & the activity isn't always included in the tour.. I found that out the hard way in Albania. The transportation was a mix of using local transportation, personal buses and ferries. Note that in Albania MOST places do not accept credit card & we had troubles using the bank machines to take out cash.. Albania accepts the Euro as currency so make sure you have lots before you go (I also found out the hard way and didn't have any Euros as i Spent them in Montenegro) The groups for the tour are really what made the trip amazing.. Both groups were super friendly & alot of fun.. being a smaller tour and with the age restrictions it did make for a better trip because we were all around the same age, so had more in common! It was great having a smaller group too because we all became closer & spent even the "free time/Free days" together doing the activities. Our guide Marco was with us for both parts of the tour and overall he did a great job covering the information needed and I felt like we could always go to him if we had questions about anything. That was a part of the tour that I liked: knowing that I had someone to ask questions to who knows the area..Overall, HIGHLY recommend doing BOTH parts of this tour, as Many who didn't do the 2nd leg of the trip were super jealous and wishing they did! You won't regret doing this tour!!

Rome to Berlin: Piazzas, Prague & the Past

Great diversity of countries and cities but WAY too fast paced. One night in Slovenia and Poland was ridiculous and with travel time some days we spent less than 15 hours in the city. The guide was a but inexperienced so we didn't have a good description of some of the cities. Great way to make friends and see cities! Would recommend going end of August or later as it was still very hot going through the cities!!

Tour from Athens to Belgrade: 7 Balkan countries in 14 days

Wonderful tour of Balkans! Montenegro, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Albania were new to us. Each day was well planned with interesting sites to explore: old historic centers/ museums/ castles/ churches/ mosques/ markets. Hotels were well located and offered delicious breakfasts. Fabio our guide and driver was excellent and taught us the history of all the sights that we visited. We will recommend this tour to family and friends.

10-Day Ultimate Ireland Small Group Tour

This is the ultimate tour of the Atlantic coastline of Ireland. Our tour guide, Finn, is such a great ambassador for his country. He has a great personality and shared so much history and Irish culture with us. All accommodations and tours were great. I would highly recommend this tour I am missing Ireland already

The Balkan Adventure Tour -12 days/11 nights from Skopje

We loved the hikes; only wished they could have been longer. We wish we didn't have to spend so much time driving, but we understand that there is no other way to see so many things in so few days. We would have liked to spend more time in Sarajevo. Don't schedule Nis for a Monday since the best sites are closed on Monday. Overall, it was a great introduction to the history and natural beauty of the Balkans, but be prepared for a lot of driving.

Anatolian Civilizations | 10 Days

Very good Tour. Good guide good driver. Only criticisms is that a lot of the food was the same, and the last two hotels could've been closer to the sea where the amazing atmosphere was but we were half an hour walk away This would've made it the perfect holiday. Other than that it was great

Great Bike Tour of the Baltics (fully guided from Vilnius to Tallinn 2024)

Although the "biking" was not on my bucket list (was talked into the trip by our brother/sister-in-law), but we had a very great time! Mindaugas was a great guide, and our driver was also great. The hotels were fine, the food was excellent, and the biking was better than I'd expected! Our fellow companions were delightful. The history and tours of the Baltic countries was wonderful. It would have been nice to have had a microphone hook-up during our guided walking tours in order to hear all the information. It would have been nice to be able to buy t-shirts (Mindaugas wore a few) that displayed a map of the tour. I think it would have been nice if we could have ordered them before or after the trip. Is it possible to do so now? Otherwise, I'd never done anything like this before, and may do it again at some point.

Balkan Experience – seven countries in two weeks - SMALL GROUP

It was a 23 days tour by car from Airport to Airport in total comfort. Treasures of Turkey - we had been on a Peregrine tour in Egypt a few years ago and had a great guide so were a bit nervous on this tour living up to that one. Magic Carpet Tour

We went on the Magic Carpet Tour. Fez Travel were absolutely outstanding from the point of booking to the final transfer. We had a flight cancellation but they resolved the airport pickup immediately. You could get them on the phone. The tour itself is highly recommended. Our tour guide Ege was one of the best ever and we saw and did so much. The hotels picked were all great and the rest stops (there is a lot of travelling) were well selected. I cannot praise this company highly enough!

Turkish Breeze-10 Days

Took the full 10 day tour with my wife including istanbul, izmir, Pamukkale, Antalya and cappadocia. Cannot thank them enough. Incredibly well organized and professional. We even booked the night before the tour started and they set up everything for you so you don't have to think. The guides are as knowledgeable as anyone can hope for. Tour guide in Izmir was especially excellent, telling me about fake coins, coming up with solutions for bugs, getting my money back on a bad drink, etc. Overall, they go out of their way to accommodate your situation best they can and it's not easy to organize these complex trips with multiple planes, etc. The reviews here were right: if you want a thought-free trip, these guys are the way to go. Only feedback is timing at each place. Everything is incredibly tight so be prepared to not spend as much time in certain places as you wish. Definitely be ready to be always moving. It feels like there's never a chance to breathe from all the activities and travel. I would recommend spacing certain things out ESPECIALLY Pammakule waterfalls which is arguably everyone's favorite thing. Felt like I got 30 min to be there, which is not right to the guests But overally, it's hard to plan a cross country tour for everyone, and they do an amazing job taking you safely step by step through a lovely vacation. You will totally unwind your brain with them.

Reviews of Small Group tours to Europe

To be honest, part of what made the trip fantastic was our group of 12- could not have had a better group to travel with- which is clearly luck, but a piece of our group being so cohesive was Nejca, our guide. She was perfect! Available but not pushy. Laid back, but willing to assert herself to make our experience the best. She made each person in the group feel special and appreciated. Thank you, Nejca! The itinerary was quite good as well. Although there were places I could have stayed for a day longer, I think it’s important to not stay too long and feel like time is wasted on a certain place on the tour. Transportation was efficient and Nejca did a great job getting us to our destinations easily and without rushing. Accommodations were very good- with the exception of Prague. Although our apartment was nice, it was clear that the residents of Prague feel that their space is being taken over by tourists- which is clearly true. I would have preferred to have stayed in a hotel in Prague-honestly, I would have paid more for it. Other than that, cannot day enough good things about the trip! Thank you!!

A great fast-paced tour that was well led by our wonderful guide Ivan!

Great diversity of countries and cities but WAY too fast paced. One night in Slovenia and Poland was ridiculous and with travel time some days we spent less than 15 hours in the city. The guide was a but inexperienced so we didn't have a good description of some of the cities. Great way to make friends and see cities! Would recommend going end of August or later as it was still very hot going through the cities!!
