Foreigner will try to find out what love is one last time, with the veteran arena rock heroes announcing a farewell tour for 2023.

The run is set to kick off July 6 at the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Atlanta, with dates scheduled through the summer, wrapping Sept. 3 at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. Eighties favorites and perennial weekend warriors Loverboy will provide support throughout the trek.

Tickets for all shows are set to go on sale Nov. 18. Complete information is available on Foreigner ’s website .

As Billboard reports, next summer’s tour will just be the first part of Foreigner’s long goodbye. The group will announce additional North American and overseas dates soon, with plans to tour through the end of 2024.

Foreigner formed in New York City back in 1976 when Jones linked up with former King Crimson multi-instrumentalist, Ian McDonald, and vocalist Lou Gramm. The group released their self-titled debut in 1977, scoring a pair of career-defining singles from the start: “Feels Like the First Time” and “Cold as Ice.”

The group’s success continued through the late Seventies and into the Eighties with hits like “Hot Blooded,” “Double Vision,” “Urgent,” and “Juke Box Hero.” In 1984 they finally notched their first and only Number One in the United States with the iconic power ballad, “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

The O’Jays Announce ‘Last Stop On The Love Train’ Final Tour

The O’Jays are taking their fans on one final ride after announcing their farewell tour, Last Stop On The Love Train .

Featuring Eddie Levert , Walter Williams , and Eric Nolan Grant as the trio join together on stage in their carefully curated ensembles to sing and dance the night away spanning over 60 years, the tour is cleverly named after their 1974 single, “Love Train.”

“I was thinking that I would quietly retire, but our fans and my body weren’t having it…The love and physical benefits of performing keeps us on the younger side of our age. This tour is a celebration of all of our lives and the struggles and joys that got us to today,” Levert said in an official statement, according to VIBE . “It is time for us to say goodbye and we would like to do it in person. Please come join us as we play the music we have shared together over the past 60 years, one last time.”

Williams explained that the reason this is The O’Jays final hurrah.

“Between Eddie and I, our ages will be over 160 years old by the end of the tour. I will be 60, and Eddie… you can do the rest of the math. But really, we wanted one last tour to say goodbye to our friends, family and fans, and ride The Love Train together, one last time.”

The O’Jays’ coveted catalog includes 10 No.1 singles including “For The Love Of Money,” “Use Ta Be My Girl,” and “Family Reunion,” nine platinum albums, ten gold albums and 12 more iconic projects.

Back in 2005, the O’Jays were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame before becoming the 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients at the BET Awards and being inducted into the R&B Music Hall of Fame in 2013.

The group released their final project, The Last Word , co-produced by the late Betty Wright, in 2019.

During the 2021 Juneteenth weekend, The O’Jays are scheduled to perform at the AFRAM Festival in Baltimore before heading to the Cincinnati Music Festival in July.

First stop on the Last Stop On The Love Train tour will kick off in Chicago on July 21. Pre-sale tickets will be available on Thursday (May 26).

Foreigner to Launch Historic Farewell Tour In 2023 — 'Very Difficult Decision,' Says Kelly Hansen

"I see other musicians sometimes that I go, 'Wow, that was disappointing,' and I don't want to be someone that other people say that about," frontman Kelly Hansen told Billboard of aging acts

Ryan Parker is the former Senior News Editor, Weekends for PEOPLE. He left PEOPLE in 2023.

The iconic rockers of Foreigner announced on Monday that their touring days are almost over — but not before their Historic Farewell Tour, which kicks off next summer in Georgia.

The "Feels Like the First Time" band, formed in 1976 in New York City by British guitarist Mick Jones, 77, will perform 32 North American concerts from July 6 in Alpharetta, GA through Sept. 3 in Holmdel, N.J., according to Billboard , which noted the band would have more dates, both domestic and overseas, through the end of 2024.

"Foreigner is a completely revitalized band with a whole new energy that has won the hearts of our fans all over the world, and I want to go out while the band is still at the top of its game," Jones told Billboard . "I had the idea that was to become Foreigner back in 1974, and I was 30 years old at the time. By the end of our farewell tour, over 50 years will have passed, and that's a long time to be on the road."

The "Cold as Ice" hit-makers confirmed the news on Instagram , sharing a picture of the Billboard story with the caption, "Have you heard?"

The end of touring for the band had been a topic of conversation for some time, mostly revolving around the topic of maintaining the desired caliber of the band's performance, Foreigner's frontman, Kelly Hansen, 61, explained to Billboard .

"It's a very difficult decision to come to," he said. "This catalog of songs, it's extremely challenging for a rock tenor vocalist like myself to sing. I never would have thought in a million years I'd be singing these songs in the keys at this age, and I don't know how much longer I can do that at the level I need do. You can drop keys and do this and do that, but I'm more of an old-school person. If I'm not doing it for real, then I shouldn't be doing it."

Hansen added, "We're at an era in life where a lot of bands from the '70s are right on the ragged edge of still being able to do shows. I see other musicians sometimes that I go, 'Wow, that was disappointing,' and I don't want to be someone that other people say that about. I want to do this band the way it's supposed to be, and when it's not like that, I don't want to be doing it."

Teasing possible new music on the horizon to Billboard , the iconic group has released nine studio albums, five of which went multi-platinum since their 1977 self-titled debut. The group still has a number of 2022 concerts scheduled and more in the spring, all occurring prior to the farewell launch.

Tickets for The Historic Farewell Tour go on sale Friday via livenation.com . More information and updates will be posted to foreigneronline.com .

Elton John preformed to over 6 million fans across 330 shows in his farewell tour.

With glitz, glam and golden confetti, Elton John performed on tour for the last time on Saturday.

The final concert was set in Stockholm, Sweden. It wrapped up the British singer's "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour, which spanned over five years, 330 shows and 16 Gucci suits. The tour is considered the highest-grossing in Billboard Boxscore history. Last month, it became the first tour ever to make more than $900 million.

"What a journey this tour has been and now we find ourselves at the end of it," John wrote on Instagram before the show.

The show included several of John's signature songs, including Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man and Candle in the Wind.

In heart-shaped pink sunglasses, he thanked his fans for their support throughout the decades.

"You have no idea what it means to me, your kindness. I've had the most wonderful career," he said. "How lucky am I to play music. But I wouldn't be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn't for you."

The worldwide, farewell tour kicked off in 2018, but was forced to pause in 2020 for nearly two-years due to the pandemic. Last month, the 76-year-old gave his final U.K. performance while headlining the Glastonbury Festival.

In 2021, the international pop star told NPR that he looked forward to retiring from tour so that he could spend more time with his children.

He later said, "As much as I love playing, I want to be with my boys now. I want to be there for them."

How did Steven Tyler injure his vocal cords?

Tyler sustained vocal cord damage and bleeding during a Sept. 9 concert last year. The 75-year-old singer’s injury included a fractured larynx.

“Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought,” the band wrote on social media last year. “His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx, which requires ongoing care.”

ATLANTA — After more than 50 years of performing iconic hits, such as ‘Before I Let Go’ and ‘We Are One’, Frankie Beverly is officially retiring.

Last week, Frankie Beverly and Maze announced the ‘I Wanna Thank You Farewell Tour’.

The tour will begin in Atlanta on Friday, March 22, at the State Farm Arena.

The announcement came after Beverly stated he wanted to slow down to enjoy life in his California Bay area home.

The band will reportedly continue to tour as Maze honors Beverly, with Beverly passing the ‘lead vocalist baton’ to Tony Lindsay.

The band will continue to make tour stops in Houston, Los Angeles and Chicago.

A plan for an after-party event following the group’s Atlanta concert is in the work. Details will be forthcoming.

Aerosmith Retiring From the Road, Announces 40-Date Arena Farewell Tour

The 'Peace Out' tour will see the group returning to the road one last time after a multi-year, pandemic-interrupted Las Vegas residency; Aerosmith's last substantial U.S. tour was eight years ago

LOS ANGELES - JANUARY 26: Aerosmith performs at THE 62ND ANNUAL GRAMMY® AWARDS, broadcast live from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Sunday, January 26, 2020 (8:00-11:30 PM, live ET/5:00-8:30 PM, live PT) on the CBS Television Network. (Photo by Monty Brinton/CBS via Getty Images)

Aerosmith has announced a 40-date farewell tour for this fall, saying in an announcement Monday morning that the band is calling it quits on road dates after a more than five-decade career.

Their “Peace Out” tour begins Sept. 2 in Philadelphia and is scheduled to wrap up Jan. 26, 2024 in Montreal. The hometown show for Boston on the tour is slated for New Year’s Eve.

The Black Crowes will open the Live Nation-produced trek. All dates go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. local time.

Popular on Variety

“While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health,” the statement said. “Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”

In Los Angeles, the group’s apparent final gig will be Dec. 7 at the Kia Forum. In New York, following an earlier nearby stop in Newark, NJ on Dec. 28, they’ll be saying goodbye at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 19, the tour’s last currently scheduled night in the U.S. before two additional final gigs in Canada. (Scroll through for the full itinerary.)

Only single dates were announced for each city along the routing. Slight gaps in the schedule would seem to at least allow for the possibility of second nights to be added later, although there aren’t vast amounts of wiggle room in the itinerary, with most stops being scheduled three days apart.

Amid the Vegas shows, Aerosmith played a 50th anniversary show this past Sept. 8 at Boston’s Fenway Park, delayed from original plans to hold it in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Although the announcement only refers to a retirement from touring, the group has been inactive as a recording unit in recent years, not having released a new album in more than a decade, even though Joe Perry said in 2019 that the band had plans to go in the studio and record new material. The last Aerosmith studio album, “Music From Another Dimension!,” was released in 2012. Their most recent release, “1971: The Road Starts Here,” was a collection of the band’s very first demos. In 2021, the band signed a distribution deal for its catalog with Universal Music Group, covering five decades’ worth of albums that originally came out on Columbia and Geffen.

Kramer’s relationship with the other band members was strained at times in recent years. He sat out dates on the Las Vegas residency in 2019 after suffering what was described as a minor shoulder injury, then later complained he was not being allowed to rejoin the group, as it continued with substitute drummer John Douglas, his drum technician. He sued the group to reclaim his place as drummer for a MusiCares Person of the Year honor in January 2020, but the request for an injunction was denied by a judge. Kramer ultimately came to the ceremony and posed with the group, but did not perform. The following month, he slid back into the drummer’s seat for the Las Vegas residency after all, returning to the performing lineup on Feb. 10, 2020, only to get a mere three shows back under his belt before the engagement was put on hold due to COVID. The drummer was not with the group when they resumed doing shows two and a half years later.

In 2021, guitarist Brad Whitford had expressed doubts that the group would ever perform together again, due to health issues nearly all of the band members had recently faced, as well as pandemic issues that were forcing an international tour to be rescheduled. Appearing on Joe Bonamassa’s podcast, Whitford said at the time, “I mean, I have my doubts about Aerosmith ever really performing again at this stage, because age is becoming a real factor. And it is what it is.” (The band members are now ages 71-75.) Nonetheless, the band came back in 2022 to do further Vegas residency shows and the Fenway Park anniversary celebration.

Aerosmith’s last tour before the multi-year Las Vegas engagement was a 24-date international run in 2017-18 that included just three shows in the U.S. The last time Aerosmith toured more extensively through the U.S. was a two-month tour in 2015.

With the exception of the on-again, off-again Kramer, the band remains relatively and remarkably intact for a group founded 52 years ago, with Tyler and Whitford joined again in the lineup by Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton.

Aerosmith announces farewell tour return, new date for Boston concert

Aerosmith announced this week that its “Peace Out” farewell tour is set to resume in September.

The tour went on hiatus last fall and was indefinitely postponed while lead singer Steven Tyler recovered from damaged vocal cords and a fractured larynx.

“Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought,” the band wrote in a social media post announcing the postponement. “As a result, all the currently scheduled PEACE OUT shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more.”

The band will kick off its return to the road with two newly added shows in Pennsylvania, first at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Sept. 20, followed by a show at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Sept. 23. Rockers The Black Crowes are also joining Aerosmith on tour as special guests.

After last year’s New Year’s Eve performance was postponed, Aerosmith’s holiday homecoming stop in Boston will now take place on Dec. 31 at TD Garden, with what is billed as “an electrifying show of Aerosmith’s groundbreaking hits performed in an immersive 360° production as they celebrate 50 years as America’s greatest rock band,” according to a press release.

Guitarist Joe Perry previously promised a return to the road in an interview with the Globe last winter.

“But with any luck we will be back out late summer and fall of 24,” Perry said. “And there’s always next New Year’s Eve! Stay tuned for that.”

Alongside the previously announced tour schedule, Aerosmith plans to make an extra stop in Florida at the Kia Center in Orlando on Feb. 11. The tour wraps with a final set in Buffalo, N.Y. at the KeyBank Center on Feb. 25.

All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows, and tickets for the rescheduled dates and newly added shows go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. on ticketmaster.com .

Steven Tyler, Aerosmith announce rescheduled farewell concert tour: New dates and ticket info

farewell tour stop

Aerosmith will be back in the saddle again this fall.

The veteran rockers, who postponed their Peace Out farewell tour after only a few shows in September, will return for a 40-date run starting Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh. The tour wraps Feb. 26, 2025 in Buffalo, NY.

The bulk of the dates are rescheduled, but the band added three cities: Pittsburgh, Orlando and Philadelphia, where their goodbye run kicked off last September.

All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates, while tickets for the new shows will go on sale at 10 a.m. local time April 12 via ticketmaster.com . For those who previously purchased tickets and cannot attend the rescheduled concerts, refunds will be available at point of purchase. A series of VIP packages are also available at aerosmith.com/VIP.

As with the original dates, The Black Crowes will open for Aerosmith.

Why did Aerosmith postpone their farewell tour?

After playing only a handful of concerts in September, the “Walk This Way” heroes had to hit pause after singer Steven Tyler damaged his vocal cords. He also fractured his larynx and was given doctor’s orders not to sing for 30 days.

But Aerosmith opted to give Tyler ample time to recuperate and scuttle all of their shows until 2024.

The wiry frontman known for his searing rock yowls, said at the time that the injury occurred at a Sept. 10 show in New York and that the vocal cord damage “led to subsequent bleeding.”

What songs can fans expect to hear at Aerosmith’s farewell shows?

USA TODAY was there for opening night of the Peace Out tour Sept. 3 in Philadelphia. As the tour is also a celebration of the band’s 50 years in the music industry, the setlist reflected their vast catalog.

The band – Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry, bassist Tom Hamilton and guitarist Brad Whitford, along with drummer John Douglas filling in for Joey Kramer – sounded in peak form for their deserved victory lap.

Songs ranged from singalong rock smashes “Livin’ on the Edge,” “Sweet Emotion” and “Rag Doll” to the rarely played album track “Adam’s Apple” and a dip into Aerosmith’s blues roots with “Hangman Jury.”

ASHLAND -- There are lots of ways to say "thank you" and "farewell." The legendary Oak Ridge Boys are doing it with an open-ended road tour, during which the band hopes to reach as many fans as possible.

While there is no closing date on the calendar yet for this final tour, one tour stop that is set is the Oak Ridge Boys' performance this Saturday, April 27, at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland.

One of the group members on stage will look markedly younger than the others: 28-year-old Ben James is taking over for Joe Bonsall, who announced his retirement from touring because of health issues. The remaining three members of the 1970's iteration of the band -- Duane Allen, Lee Golden and Richard Sterban -- will be alongside James as they perform their hits like the worldwide chart-topper, "Elvira."

“Before Ben James joined us, he sang for the bluegrass group Dailey and Vincent,” said the Oak Ridge Boys long-time bass singer Richard Sterban, in this exclusive interview with The Herald-Dispatch. “About a year and a half ago or so, we did a show with Dailey and Vincent and they came out and joined us at the end of our concert and sang ‘Elvira’ with us. Joe sang the first verse of the song, as he normally does, and then he handed the microphone over to Ben James, who then sang the second verse of ‘Elvira.’ When Ben sung it, we all turned around and looked at each other and went, ‘Wow, this kid can sing.’ After that, Ben and Joe became pretty close and talked all of the time.”

When it was time for Bonsall to give himself a break, he recommended James as his replacement.

“When Joe said he would like Ben to take his place, we had no problem with that,” said Sterban. “Ben is a really young guy compared to the rest of us, being less than half of our age at 28, yet he is not trying to be Joe and we have not asked him to be Joe, so to speak. No one can take Joe’s place. But, Ben is very talented and he is bringing some new energy to our group and that is a good thing. So, we are happy about coming to Ashland with Ben because he is doing a fantastic job.”

With so many years on the road, the stories from original members about life as a traveling musician were many. Sterban’s autobiography called “From Elvis to Elvira – My Life On Stage,” along with Bonsall’s memoir called “On The Road with the Oak Ridge Boys – 40 Years of Untold Stories and Adventures,” tell those tales with enthusiasm and heart.

Sterban just turned 81 years old, and the band continues to go through the heartbreak that comes from getting older, such as the death of lead singer Duane Allen’s wife Norah, who passed away on Easter morning. But, the decision was made to continue this Farewell Tour at a reasonable pace. The goal is to spread out the shows so as to not get burned out on the road, yet still visit as many cities and towns as they can while still sounding good.

“A few hours later on that same Easter day, I also lost my father-in-law just a few hours after Norah Lee passed away, so we have had a difficult time here lately,” said Sterban. “But, we are surviving and we are trying to make the best of it because life still has to go on, and that is what we are trying to do. I feel bad for Duane because he is going through a difficult time. I’ve lost my parents over the years and a grandson and a brother-in-law, but I have never lost a spouse like that, and I know it has to be hard to deal with. But now, we are all back on the road again.”

The Oak Ridge Boys are still recording albums as well, with studio time set up for later this year with the acclaimed Nashville producer Dave Cobb, who has won Grammy Awards for his work with Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlisle and others. And, this will mark the Oak Ridge Boys' first album with Ben James onboard.

Until then, it is life on the concert circuit once again.

“We have officially announced that we are on our Farewell Tour, although the one thing that we have not announced is when the tour will end,” said Sterban. “We say that because we do not know when the end will be yet. What we are trying to do is to go around to as many places as we can possibly go to all over this country so we can basically say thank you. We have been very blessed and very fortunate to have had a great career, so we want to take some time to travel and perform and say thank you to our fans. Our fans are the ones who have allowed us to have a great career and a great life. We also want to thank those on the radio who have played our music over the years and everybody else we have worked with, so this is going to take us a little while to do. When the Good Lord above tells us that it is time to hang it up for good, we will do just that, but He has not said that just yet and we’ll be around for a little while longer.”

The Oak Ridge Boys will perform at the Paramount Arts Center on Saturday, April 27, at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $40 to $70. The venue is located at 1300 Winchester Ave., Ashland. More information on events at the Paramount can be found at paramountartscenter.com .
