Goa in the Monsoon Season: Essential Travel Guide

Goa is India's smallest and most liberated state. It was actually a colony of Portugal up until 1961, and a strong Portuguese influence still remains. Goa's coastline stretches for around 100 kilometers (62 miles) and its beaches have become extremely popular tourist destinations.

However, Goa has much more to offer than just the beach! It’s particularly picturesque during monsoon time from June to September. Nature flourishes, the rain brings refreshment and romance, and Goa takes on a more traditional flavor. Travel to Goa during the monsoon and you'll be able to experience it the local Goan way. Most of the party crowd has gone. Instead, Goa is frequented by Indian families on vacation at this time of year.

What's the Monsoon Like in Goa?

Those who are unfamiliar with the monsoon in India will probably be wondering just how much it rains. The reality is that the monsoon is very unpredictable! It can rain heavily for days and then be dry for days. It does rain frequently though. The power often goes out too. July is the wettest month. The rain eases up a bit in August and September, with shorter downpours and more sunny patches. Here's all you need to know about India's epic monsoon season .

North or South Goa?

Something to be aware of is that Goa's beach shacks are packed up during the monsoon season. As a result, lesser-developed South Goa is virtually deserted. It's better to head to North Goa, which has more permanent structures. You'll find the most action happening on the most developed stretch from Candolim to Baga beaches. Baga, especially, is favored by Indian tourists during the monsoon. Unfortunately, many groups of guys do get drunk and rowdy, and women may feel uncomfortable. Instead, going inland to experience Goa's hinterland and villages is recommended, in places such as Aldona, Saligao or Siolim.

Things to Do During the Monsoon Season in Goa

Goa's wildlife sanctuaries are open all year round. The major ones are Mollem National Park (within Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary ) in eastern Goa, and Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary in South Goa near the Karnataka border. Imposing Dudhsagar Falls is located on the fringe of the Mollem National Park. Water rages down from a huge height during the monsoon season but the waterfall is off limits to tourists for safety reasons. Tambdi Sula waterfall in Bhagwan Mahavir Sancturary is an alternative. It requires a steep uphill trek though, which keeps most people away. You'll definitely need a guide because the trail isn't marked. This is one option for a guided day trip . While there, you can also visit the ancient 12th century Mahadev Temple, believed to be the oldest Hindu temple in Goa.

Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary is a lesser-known place in the Swapnagandha Valley of northeast Goa, near Valpoi. An unusual attraction in this sanctuary during the monsoon season is bio-luminescent fungi called Mycena that glows in the dark. White water rafting, and hiking around Vagheri Hills and Chorla Ghat, are popular things to do. There are quite a few waterfalls in the area, with Vazra Sakla Falls at Chorla Ghat being the biggest.

Trekking to Mynapi and Savri waterfalls in Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary, in southeast Goa, is possible during the monsoon. However, canyoning and abseiling around the Upper Sauri region are usually suspended.

Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary , the smallest but most accessible sanctuary in Goa, is ideal for families. It's conveniently situated near Ponda and has nature trails, botanical gardens, an animal rehabilitation center, mini zoo and deer safari park.

The spice plantations around Ponda are also open during the monsoon season in Goa. One of the oldest and most acclaimed is 130-acre Sahakari Spice Farm .

If the sun comes out, you may be able to spot some birds drying off at Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary on Chorao Island in the Mandovi River.

Those who are interested in Goa's heritage can wander around the characterful Fontainhas Latin Quarter in Panjim, visit old restored Portuguese mansions in South Goa, explore Reis Margos Fort , or take a tour of the Goa governor's Raj Bhavan Estate palace in Dona Paula (Friday-Sunday afternoons only).

An electric bike tour is an offbeat way of exploring hidden gems of Goa. The tour is conducted daily by B:Ride in conjunction with Goa Tourism.

The rain won't put too much of a dampener on your sightseeing as the Hop-On-Hop-Off sightseeing bus operates daily all year round too. It's a convenient way of Goa's tourist spots including Old Goa.

However, if it's too wet you can fill in the days by visiting interesting museums such as the Museum of Goa (which brings Goa's history alive through contemporary art) and Goa Chitra (with artifacts dedicated to agriculture and traditional Goan lifestyle).

Thrill-seekers can try bungee jumping, flyboarding or paintball. Trip Raja, based in Calangute, offers all these activities plus many more including water sports and boat trips.

Feeling lucky? Go gambling at one of the offshore casinos in Goa . The casino boats will be packed with Indian tourists and rocking. There's live entertainment at night.

Festivals During the Monsoon Season in Goa

One of the best reasons to visit Goa during the monsoon is the vibrant festivals that take place. The most popular festival, Sao-Joao (the fertility feast of Saint John the Baptist), is celebrated in late June and involves the interesting feat of men jumping into overflowing village wells to retrieve bottles of local feni alcohol. The feast of Saints Peter and Paul, at the end of June, sees people sailing upriver on rafts performing plays and songs. In late August, the carnival-like Bonderam flag festival is held on tiny Divar Island, off the coast from Panjim. Ganesh Chaturthi is also observed in Goa in August or September.

Where to Stay

Inland, along the backwaters of Goa's hinterland in Aldona, Olaulim Backyards is lush during the monsoon season.

Dudhsagar Plantation Farmstay , one of the top farm stays in India , is not far from Dudhsagar and Tambdi Sula waterfalls. However, the most awesome monsoon activity there is a fish foot spa in the local river. Yes, the fish will come up and nibble your feet!

Restaurants that aren’t on the beach usually stay open during the monsoon. Lloyd’s in Calangute (after the chapel, on the Candolim Main Road) is the place to be on a stormy monsoon evening. It serves delicious Goan home cooking and is open through the night. The atmosphere is friendly and entertaining, with many people passing by and dropping in. You can also try Britto's on Baga Beach for seafood.

Hugely popular Thalassa is now open throughout the year at its new home, Teso Waterfront in Siolim.

Other popular restaurants that remain open include funky Artjuna garden cafe and lifestyle shop in Anjuna, Cantare in Saligao (it's a tavern with live music), Gunpowder (South Indian cuisine) in Assagao, and Mustard (Bengali-French fusion cuisine) and Morgan's Place (Italian) in Sangolda.

Goa's Latin Quarter has many great restaurants and bars too .

Nightlife During the Monsoon Season in Goa

Goa's famous nightlife is minimal during the monsoon, although the infamous Mambo's and Tito's at Baga beach both rock all year round. Cape Town Cafe, on the same road, is also open. In Candolim, there is hip Cohiba Bar and Kitchen with live music, and Sinq Beach Club and LPK Waterfront with DJs. Bands play retro music on Fridays at the more laid-back Cavala, near Baga Beach. This place caters to an older crowd. Curlies on Anjuna beach stays open during the monsoon season as well, although Anjuna generally wears a deserted look.

Getting There

Goa is well connected to the rest of India by all types of transport. However, the bus can be slow and uncomfortable (here are the best options though), so try to fly or take the train where possible. Prepaid taxis are available at the airport in Goa.

Trains on the Konkan Railway can cover the distance from Mumbai to Goa in less than 10 hours. Most trains will stop at Margao (Madgaon), which is Goa's main train station. Some, such as the Konkankanya Express , will stop at other stations as well. Here are the best trains from Mumbai to Goa . Do note that a monsoon timetable operates from mid June until the end of October. Trains are forced to reduce their speed for safety reasons during the monsoon, so many are rescheduled to depart earlier than usual to compensate. You can expect the trip to take at least two or three hours longer than normal.

The reality is that Goa is pretty deserted during the monsoon and a lot of places are closed, so be prepared for that. If you go expecting a beach holiday or parties, you're likely to be disappointed. Goa has so much to offer than just beaches and crazy parties. India’s favourite holiday destination used to almost shut down completely during the monsoon season, but visiting Goa in monsoon is becoming more popular every year so nowadays more and more places are staying open for the rainy season.

Visiting Goa in monsoon is a totally different experience than in season time – some even say that Goa is at it’s most beautiful during the rainy season ! As people start to discover the joys of exploring Goa in off season I thought it was about time I wrote a post with everything you need to know about visiting Goa in monsoon!

My Insider’s Guide to Visiting Goa in Monsoon

As I’ve lived in Goa since 2015 I’ve seen the seasons come and go more than a few times now so in this blog post, my guide to visiting Goa in monsoon, I’ll cover everything you need to know.

From when the monsoon season occurs and what the weather is like, pros and cons of visiting during monsoon, where to stay in Goa in monsoon, unique things to do during the rainy season, and more tips so that you can decide whether visiting Goa in the off season is right for you.

So Should you Visit Goa in Monsoon?

More and more people are discovering that Goa is actually an all year round destination. But should you visit Goa during the rainy season? It’s a difficult question to answer because it depends on what you are looking for from your Goa trip.

Yes! If you enjoy the romance of the rains, the drama of the thunderstorms, seeing the countryside erupt in impossibly bright shades of green, the waterfalls in full flow and enjoy a relaxing escape from the crowds then definitely visit Goa during monsoon – even if you have visited Goa in the season time many times, monsoon is a totally different experience.

No! But if you are looking for endless hot and sunny days of sunbathing on the beaches, visiting the flea markets , swimming, watersports and wild parties then don’t come to Goa during monsoon because you won’t be able to do most of these things.

Wait to visit Goa during the main tourist season between December and April when Goa is sunny and dry, the sea is safe and beautiful for swimming, all the markets and parties are open and the state is buzzing with people and nightlife to enjoy, especially around New Years.

When is Goa’s Monsoon Season and What’s the Weather Like?

The first thing you’ll need to know when planning any Goa monsoon trip is when the monsoon season arrives, when is the best time to visit and what’s it’s really like in Goa during the rains…

The weather has gotten more and more unpredictable in recent years but Goa has two distinct seasons that you can plan your travel around. The main, peak season for tourism, when most people consider the best time to visit Goa, is the dry season from November – April.

The off season is still considered to be from May – October. May is an unbearably hot, humid, dusty and dry month but the monsoon rains that arrive in early June bring much needed relief.

The Indian monsoon normally arrives in Kerala on 1st June and hits Goa about a week later around 6th June. Watching the first huge thunderstorms storms roll in is quite dramatic and a lot of fun. It’s such a relief when the skies finally open after months of heat and humidity.

Sao Joao is a Catholic festival, a fertility feast and birthday of Saint John the Baptist, which is celebrated on 24 th June with music, dancing and food as well as colourful floats on the river and people jumping into wells!

Monsoon in Goa is in full swing through June, July and August, with June and July being the wettest months. By mid June the landscape turns lush and green and vibrant again – it’s so beautiful to see after months of dust.

But unlike the rainy season in Southeast Asia, where you often just get a few hours downpour in the afternoon that you can plan your day around, Goa’s rains are much more unpredictable.

Sometimes it can pour down with rain for days on end without stopping and often the power goes off during these storms, sometimes for 6 or more hours at a time. Some paddy fields and lie lowing areas can sometimes get flooded but it usually clears up quite quickly once the rain has stopped.

August also sees alot of rain but if you want to party then the Independence Day holiday on the 15 th August is a good time to visit Goa. By the end of August and into September there should be plenty of sunny intervals between the rains.

This is a beautiful time to visit Goa as the landscapes are so lush and green from the rains but with less frequent downpours making traveling and sightseeing easier.

While September and October are at the end of the monsoon the weather remains unpredictable. Sometimes it’s mostly sunny and dry but some years it can still rain alot which is why the peak tourist season, which coincides with the dry season, doesn’t start until November. Ganesh Chaturthi is also observed in Goa in August or September.

Goa’s tropical climate means it’s never really cold, even in monsoon, although it is refreshingly cooler than in the hot season.

The average high temperature in Goa in monsoon is between 28°C and 30°C, while the average low is around 24°C with August being the coolest month.

The humidity can be from 60 – 95% though so while you’ll need to bring raincoats and umbrellas you’ll still need to bring light and cool clothing too.

The Pros and Cons of Visiting Goa in Monsoon

There are pros and cons to visiting Goa during the rainy season. Some say that Goa is most beautiful during monsoon – the landscapes are so lush and green, there are alot less crowds.

The rain washes the dust away and brings the heat down and nature starts to flourish again making it the rainy season the best time to visit Goa for nature lovers.

Most of the beach shacks and beach huts are all taken down so you can enjoy a long walks along the unspoilt empty virgin beaches and the cloudy skies can make for spectacular sunsets.

But, if your idea of the perfect Goa trip is all about relaxing in a beach resort , sunbathing on the beaches, swimming in calm seas and enjoying watersports and parties then monsoon is not the best time to visit Goa – the sea is often too rough and dangerous to swim in and many places are closed.

The Advantages of Visiting Goa in Monsoon Season:

Lush, green, beautiful scenery
Lower prices and less crowds
See a more local side of life
A great time to explore the countryside, waterfalls, spice plantations and wildlife sanctuaries
Or just relax, spend time with loved ones and watch the rain – The storms and rains can be quite dramatic and amazing to watch.

The Disadvantages of Visiting Goa in Monsoon Season:

Weather can be unpredictable, heavy rain, thunderstorms and power cuts are likely
Cyclones and flooding, while not common, could happen and would disrupt your travels.
The seas are too rough for swimming and watersports do not operate
Many places shut outside the main tourist season meaning that there is not so much variety of accommodation, restaurants, shopping and partying options available. The tourist markets are not open either – only the local markets.

Where to Stay in Goa in Monsoon

You’ll want to think carefully about where to stay in Goa in monsoon as not everywhere is open like it is in the dry season.

Most of the beach shacks and beach huts have to be taken down for monsoon and the night markets, flea markets, watersports and many parties cannot open in the rains, so you need to bear this mind if you’re planning to visit Goa in monsoon.

Thunderstorms and heavy rains also mean long power cuts, flooded roads and fields so choose your accommodation carefully, avoid low budget hotels, use a car instead of a scooter or motorbike and make sure you stay in a modern apartment or luxury resort with proper power back up and AC to make sure you have a good experience!

Seriously, sometimes the power can go off for days especially at the start of monsoon so don’t underestimate the importance of a good power back up. Whatever accommodation you book double check they have power back up and that it works!

Monsoon is the perfect time to relax and spend time with loved ones and enjoying walks on the quiet beaches and exploring the luscious green countryside.

The rainy season is also a great time to splash out on a bit of luxury as you can get great monsoon deals on luxury resorts , especially in South Goa, perfect for a family holiday or couples trip.

The luxury resorts make a great place to relax and watch the rains in comfort and luxury for a super special experience safe in the knowledge that you won’t be plunged into darkness with the next downpour.

The Best Luxury Resorts for Monsoon

South goa: alila diwa, majorda.

My favourite resort in South Goa for monsoon is the Alila Diwa, Majorda . This beautiful Bali inspired 5 star luxury resort is even more stunning in monsoon. Watching the rains bring the green paddy fields to life from the infinity pool is just bliss.

Plus there’s an excellent spa, 3 dining options, 2 bars and a butler service the Club rooms. So, apart from romantic walks in the rain along the empty beaches, you don’t really to need to leave the resort if you don’t want to!

North Goa: The W, Vagator

My favourite resort in North Goa is The W, Vagator . This luxury 5 star resort has an amazing location perched overlooking Vagator Beach directly underneath Chapora Fort. The W has some of the most beautiful, uniquely designed, spacious rooms in Goa.

The sunset views over the beach from the rock pool and cocktail bar are just amazing. The W has so many facilities including a spa and fitness center, boutique shops, play area and several pools and dinning options so you don’t need to leave the resort but it’s also close to Anjuna and Baga if you want to check out the parties and attractions there.

Baga Beach, Calangute Beach and Candolim Beach

If you’re traveling to Goa with a group of friends and looking for Goa’s famous nightlife then the best places to stay in Goa in monsoon are Baga, Calangute and Candolim.

These are the most developed beaches in Goa so more things stay open during the rainy season. It can be quite busy at weekends, although nowhere near as busy as it is in season time (for me, this is definitely a good thing!)

If you are looking for some nightlife and partying in the rainy season then Baga is your best bet as the bars and clubs around Tito’s Lane stay open all year.

Best Luxury Stay: The Taj Fort Aguada, Candolim Beach

The best place to stay in this area is undoubtedly The Taj Fort Aguada, Candolim . The colourful and luxurious heritage style cottages are surrounded by luscious tropical gardens and located on the most picturesque spot on upmarket Candolim Beach.

So you can soak up the stunning ocean views as the clouds gather over the ocean while still being close to all the action in Baga and Calangute. As it’s a 5 star Taj property you can expect nothing less than unparalleled hospitality.

Best Budget Stay: Wave Calangute Beach Resort

There’s lots of budget options in Baga and Calangute but don’t let your trip be ruined by staying somewhere without power backup! A good value place to stay is Wave Calangute Beach Resort .

These fully equipped modern AC 1 and 2 BHK apartments have 100% power back up and can comfortably sleep upto 8 people so it’s great for families and groups of friends. There’s nice gardens and a pool to hang out at and close to Calangute, Baga and Candolim.

Anjuna Beach and Vagator Beach

There’s also some things open in Anjuna and Vagator including the famous Curlies beach shack which stays open during the rains and sometimes has parties on.

Hilltop nightclub has a popular Freedom Blast psytrance rave party on Independence Day too. The popular Artjuna Café stays open during monsoon, Chapora Fort is super atmospheric in the rains and the famous Thalassa restaurant is now open throughout the year too.

Luxury Stay: Westin Anjuna

The best place to stay in Anjuna is the newly built Westin Anjuna . It’s super centrally located for exploring Anjuna and Vagator with comfortable modern rooms, a spa, a year round pool, Bali vibes and the all important power back up.

Best Nature Experience

One of the best things to do in rainy season is explore the spice plantations, waterfalls and nature sanctuaries that are at their most beautiful thanks to the rains.

Nature lovers and those wanting an off beat experience should stay at Dudhsagar Plantation Farmstay for a unique experience deep in Goa’s countryside.

The resort is an experience in itself with it’s own spice plantation, nature trails and a relaxing natural swimming pool – it’s one of the most unique places to stay in Goa and really comes to life in monsoon. Don’t miss the chance to experience a fish foot spa in the local river.

Goa’s Capital Panaji (Panjim)

Monsoon is also a great time to explore the unique culture and heritage of Goa. The best place to do this is in Goa’s laid back capital Panjim/Panaji with it’s pleasant riverside setting and colourful Portuguese architecture.

Don’t miss the unique and elaborate Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and take some time to explore Fontainhas, the Latin quarter with atmospheric, historic, colourful Portuguese colonial buildings and cool cafes.

The best way to explore Panjim and get to know more about it’s unique history is with a walking tour. This heritage walking tour of Fontainhas will give you an insight on the Portuguese influence on Goa’s architecture, music, food and art. Take a journey of exploration through the oldest and largest Latin quarter in Asia, visiting art galleries and picturesque sights along the way and even stopping by a Goan musicians house to hear songs from a bygone area.

Panjim is also a good base from where you can easily hop aboard the floating casinos, take a fun sunset cruise along the Mandovi River , visit Old Goa, Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Divar Island , Miramar Beach and Dona Paula.

Best Stay: Goa Marriot Resort and Spa

The best place to stay in Panaji is the Goa Marriot Resort and Spa. A modern 5 star hotel situated directly on Miramar Beach just 5 mins drive from the historic part of Panjim. Most rooms have a sea view so you can watch the monsoon storms coming in from the comfort of your luxurious room. There’s also a casino, outdoor pool, spa, 3 dining options and free parking. The location offers a convenient base from which to visit everywhere in Goa and it’s only 40 mins from the airport.

The Best Things to do and Places to Visit in Goa During Monsoon

Monsoon brings a whole different range of things to do and places to visit that will allow you to explore a totally different side to the state from the famous beaches and parties that Goa is best known for.

For nature, culture and history lovers, and all those who do not like crowds, monsoon is probably the best time for you to visit Goa as the nature is at it’s most beautiful and the cultural and historic sights are not crowded.

I’d recommend spending at least 3 days in Goa so you’ll have time to relax and enjoy as well as explore some of the best places and things to do here.

Waterfalls, Wildlife Sanctuaries and Spice Plantations

Visiting the waterfalls, wildlife sanctuaries and spice plantations are some of the best things to do in Goa during monsoon. Goa’s wildlife sanctuaries are open all year round and offer a peaceful escape in nature that you wouldn’t normally associate India’s party capital!

Dudhsagar Falls, India’s second highest waterfall, is Goa’s most famous spot for nature lovers. To see it you need take a bumpy jeep ride deep into jungle in the very far Eastern corner of Goa. During season time you can swim in the refreshing waters at the bottom of the waterfall but it is quite a crowded and popular spot. The waterfall is best viewed just after the monsoon however during monsoon Dudhsagar is not open for tourists due to safety concerns.

But there are many other waterfalls you can check out. Tambdi Sula waterfall is one of the best waterfalls. It’s located inside the Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary , Goa largest wildlife reserve and requires an uphill trek to reach it but it’s worth it. You can also visit the Mahadev Temple, an ancient 12th century temple that is the oldest Hindu temple in Goa and is located within the same park.

Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary is located near Valpol in the Chorla Ghats region and is famous for its twin waterfalls – Vazra Sakla and Virdi Falls, Shivling Waterfall and Charavane Waterfall. If you want to stay nearby check out The Wildernest Nature Resort an amazing nature retreat complete with infinity pool overlooking the jungle.

Cotiago Wildlife Sanctuary, located close to popular Palolem Beach, is home to Kuske Waterfall and a 25 meter high tree house viewing platform. Netravali Waterfall, also known as Savri falls, and Tansikar Spice Farm are also located nearby. Check out the amazing new Postcard Hideaway Netravali if you want to stay near here.

Another top thing to do in Goa in monsoon is visiting the Spice Plantations. Head out to Ponda to explore Goa’s Hindu Heartland and visit the temples and spice farms. Goa’s spice farms are a chance to be enveloped in beautiful, luscious greenery and you’re sure to be in awe of nature when you find out how many different properties plants can contain and how many illnesses and ailments they can treat.

The best spice farms are Sahakari Spice Farm, Savoi Spice Plantation, Tropical Spice Plantation, Pascoal Organic Spice Village and Tansikar Spice Farm. The admission price includes an informative tour, buffet lunch and a small sample of some spices.

An easy day trip from Panjim, Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary on Chorao Island is a must for bird lovers. Take a canoe trip through the mangroves and soak up the panoramic views while spotting numerous specifics of birds from the 3 story watch tower,.

Even those who don’t want to trek far can still get their nature fix. Kesarval Spring Waterfall is conveniently located near the highway at Verna, you can see waterfalls not far from the road at Amboli Ghat and Harvalem Waterfall near Sanquerim is also quite easily accessible.

Historic Temples, Forts and Churches

For those who are into culture and history Goa also has plenty to interest you during the monsoon. Taking in the views from atop a crumbling Portuguese fort is even more atmospheric under the cloudy skies and visiting the colourful capital Panjim and the UNESCO listed Portuguese churches of Old Goa without the crowds is blissful.

When visiting the spice farms near Ponda you could also visit some of Goa’s oldest and most famous Hindu temples like Shri Manguesh Temple, Shri Mahalsa Temple and Shree Shantadurga Mandir which are all nearby.

The elegant blue coloured Shri Manguesh Temple is Goa’s most famous temple, while Shri Mahalasa Temple, is regarded as Goa’s most beautiful temple and the Shree Shantadurga Mandir temple, dates back to the 1730s.

For forts check out Fort Aguada near Candolim, Chapora Fort, also known as the ‘ Dil Chahta Hai ’ fort, and the impressive Reis Magos Fort just across the water from Panaji. All offer stunning views and photo opportunities.

Museums and indoor activities

For really rainy days there are also some nice indoor activities and museums in Goa that are worth visiting.

In North Goa check out the Museum of Goa near Calangute which celebrates Goa’s history and people through contemporary art, the Houses of Goa Museum in Porvorim, the Celebrity Wax Museum in Arpora, and the State Museum of Goa in Panaji.

In South Goa, the old colonial mansions in Chandor make an interesting visit and Goa Chitra , in Benaulim, is an engaging ethnographical museum that celebrates Goa’s agricultural and traditional lifestyles. You could combine visiting both with this tour .

Ancestral Goa in Loutolim features a recreated ancient Goa village that takes you back to Goan life as it would have been 100 years ago. Definitely worth a visit although the later museum is not all indoors.

Getting to Goa and Getting Around in Monsoon

While direct international charter flights don’t run during the offseason international visitors can still reach Goa by flying to Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore and changing onto a quick domestic flight there.

Domestic flights from Mumbai and Bangalore only take 1 hour and are often cheaper during monsoon. Trains and buses are another option from within India but take alot more time. Super heavy rains and storms can disrupt travel but usually things go to plan.

While renting a scooter or Royal Enfield motorbike is a great way to get around and explore Goa during season time you don’t want to be doing this during monsoon season for obvious reasons.

The Hop on Hop off Bus runs all year round to help you reach the most popular places in Goa from Candolim to Vagator and from Dona Paula to the Mangueshi Temple, stopping at places including Panaji, Old Goa and a spice farm on the route.

If you don’t have your own transport then taking a day trip tour package that visit’s Panjim’s Latin Quarter, Old Goa and a spice farm is the best stress free way to make the most of your time and see Goa’s top attractions.

But if you want to explore off the beaten track and get out into the nature then the best way to get around Goa during monsoon is with a car. Taxis are expensive so its better to drive to Goa or rent a car while you’re here.

Visit Goa in July if you love the rains and if you love the sea. The thick cloud cover gives the sea a different shade of blue. It looks amazing. Goa in July is in the middle of the monsoon season. It will rain almost every day. Humidity and precipitation is higher, and the wind speed is also considerably high. The sea can be rough on the days when it rains. The average high is 28.9°C, while the average low is 24.1°C, which makes July cooler than June. July is a more comfortable month in Goa because of the lower temperature. You can spend long hours visiting the many tourist attractions as the summer heat won’t bother you anymore. Or, you can simply lie back on a lounger to enjoy the rainy weather with a book and a drink. Most beach shacks in the Baga-Calangute-Candolim stretch and in some other places are open even in July.

There is no water sport activity in July but you can enjoy many other activities. You can enjoy whitewater rafting as the rapids are more challenging. The rivers are full of water and look amazing. Visit the Dudhsagar Waterfall and the Tambdi Surla Waterfall. Trek to the Mhaisal Dam and Salaulim Dam. Visit the spice plantations that look the greenest and the most scenic in the rains.

The tourists are back in Goa to enjoy the rains. Goa is very romantic in the rains, which is why you will find many romantics and newlywed couples visiting Goa this month. But the prices are still lower compared to the November-January period.

The Goa weather in July is cooler than the summer, because we are at the middle of the monsoon season now.

The monsoon usually hits Goa in early June, so by July it is raining heavily. In fact, usually, July is the wettest month in Goa. It often rains every day, and sometimes, it can rain for several hours. On an average, it rains about 27 days in July. But you will still get dry and sunny breaks between those spells of rain and it is brilliant in those times, because it’s not as hot as the summer months. There will be a lot of clouds and the sea will be rough. The sea temperature will be warm. There can be riptides as well so be careful if you are planning to go swimming.

The precipitation increases slightly as the month progresses. On July 1 st , it is around 78%, but by the end of the month, the precipitation should be around 89%. The wind speed in July ranges between 2 m/s, which is light breeze and 6 m/s, which is moderate. It is rarely above 9 m/s.

The humidity can be high. Goa’s relative humidity varies between 70%, which is considered mildly humid and 95%, which is extremely humid. It is rarely less than 57%.

Pros and Cons of Monsoon

July is in the middle of the monsoon season in Goa, so there is a lot of rain. It may rain every day, sometimes very heavily. There can be sudden thundershowers too. But there is kind of magic in the combination of sea and rain, which makes Goa very romantic during the rains. Clouds over the sea, the rain, and the rainbow after showers all add to the charm of Goa this time of the year.

In fact, tourism has been growing in Goa during the monsoon in recent years, as more and more tourists are coming here, both domestic and international, making the monsoon season the second most popular tourist season in Goa after the winter.

Top 6 Things To Do In July

Visit the Dudhsagar Waterfalls – Dudhsagar falls is going to look its mighty best during the monsoon. 47 kms from Margao by the MDR52, this is one of the most amazing sights in Goa. You will get completely drenched if you stand too close. You can trek to the falls from Castle Rock or take a car.
The Spice Plantations – At their greenest best in July. There are many to choose from like Savoi, Sahakari Spice Farms, and the Tropical Spice Plantation. You will see many fruits, spice plants, exotic flowers and hundreds of orchids. There are wild birds, monkeys, and at Sahakari, you can take a bath with elephants too. Have an exotic lunch on banana leaves.
The Wildlife Sanctuaries – Once again, many options. Choose from the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, Mollem National Park, and the the Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary.
Other Attractions – The UNESCO World Heritage Site Basilica de Bom Jesus, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, Se Cathedral, Church of St Cajetan, and the St. Francis of Assisi Church.
The Forts – Chapora, Aguada, Betul. The sea looks lovely from up there in July.
The Latin Quarter and Old Goa. There are many fantastic old Portuguese mansions to see here that you cannot miss.

Don’t worry if you cannot swim in the sea in July or enjoy water sports. A walk in the rain can be a lot of fun too. Just wear your waterproof clothing, and enjoy all the splatter. It can be very romantic with all the clouds, the waves lapping the shore, and very few people around.

Rice Cultivation

July is the time for planting rice in Goa. Rice and fish are the staple diet of the locals. In fact, no curry is ever complete without rice. So there is huge demand for rice in the state.

This month, the farmers hold water in their fields, and you will see them in crouched position, planting the rice seeds. The seeds have to be planted within water, so the rain makes it the perfect season. The varieties of rice grown this season usually take 90 and 110 days to mature. Goa grows about 28 traditional varieties of rice.

Rice is grown in Goa in mostly three types of areas – the uplands or morod, midlands or kherlands, and saline lands or khazan.

The monsoon is also a good time for sweet pineapples. In the markets, you will see a lot of them. Prices are cheap.

Touxeachem Fest – This is held at the Church of St Anne, which is also called the Santana Church on July 29 th . The church is close to the Basilica de Bom Jesus. People from all over Goa visit the church on this date, mostly newlyweds, to wish for happy marriage or a child. The event is also known as Cucumber Feast because people offer cucumbers to St Anne at the church.

Chikhal Kalo – A fun festival of mud fights, which has been held for more than 150 years. It is held next to the Devki-Balkrishna temple in Marcel. There are many types of mud games along with bells and drums playing in the background. All the participants are thoroughly bathed in mud. It is held at the end of July.

Raksha Bandhan – Also called Rakhi, this is a very popular Hindu festival. Sisters will tie colorful strings on the hands of their brothers to express their love and strengthen the family bond. It is held either in July or August, depending on the dates in the Hindu calendar.

Goa July Checklist – Make sure to pack waterproof clothing that will keep you dry in July. Also carry an umbrella and good boots if you plan to visit the national parks, Dudhsagar Waterfalls and the plantations. Finally, don’t forget a torch.

Whitewater Rafting

There is no water sport in Goa in July as it is deemed too risky. But there is one activity that will surely please the thrill seekers – whitewater rafting. The rivers and backwaters are all full in July, perfect for this adventure sport. July is the best month for this.

You will find rapids of all levels, both easy and challenging ones. There is whitewater rafting at many places in Goa – Valpoi River, Mhadei River, and the Mandovi River. Get basic instructions, rafting gear, lifejackets, and the whitewater rafting experience for just 1,500-2,000 INR per person.

Hotels in Goa in July

The hotel and resort rooms will be available at a lower price than the winter (peak season), but the prices are likely to be higher than the summer. In fact, there is moderate demand during the weekends as many tourists come down from Mumbai, Bangalore, and Pune to enjoy the rains at the seaside. Book early, especially if you are planning a weekend trip.

Most of the big hotels and resorts will be open in July. But the smaller places, home stays, and budget properties may have fewer staff members. The quality of service may suffer as a result.

This Old Goa attraction dates back to the late 16th century and contains the remains of the St. Francis Xavier . The "Apostle of the Indies" co-founded the Society of Jesus religious order with friend St. Ignatius Loyola and spearheaded an extensive mission in India. The basilica has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.

The modest yet imposing structure is a mix of Doric, Corinthian, and Baroque style with intricate carvings. Interestingly, the building was stripped of its lime plaster in the mid-20th century, making it the only church in Goa without plaster. The Basilica de Bom Jesus has since become worn by monsoons.

You can tour the church on your own, or hire one of the independent guides near the entrance for a small fee. Inside, you can see huge ornamental screens, along with the body of the resident saint in a casket that was once covered in precious stones. It's a compelling place that will transport you back in time.

Every year, the Feast of St. Francis Xavier draws big crowds to this church in late November and early December. It kicks off with a nine-day novena and open-air masses before concluding with the major holiday on Dec. 3.

Aquatic adventures go beyond the beach in Goa. The state is also home to Dudhsagar Falls, a spectacular four-tiered waterfall that towers some 310 meters above the earth. It's one of India's tallest waterfalls and a perpetually popular attraction for day trips around Goa and Karnataka .

To reach the falls, you'll need to make your way to the village of Colem by taxi or train. Depending on which train route you take, you may get a glimpse of Dudhsagar Falls along the way. Then, you'll hop aboard a shared jeep through the jungle, passing Devil's Canyon along the way. Around 45 minutes later, you'll scurry over some boulders to finally reach the falls.

The best time to visit Dudhsagar Falls is right after the monsoon , when the water is gushing. Tourists who wish to take a dip can rent a life jacket from vendors at the attraction.

Hot tip: Only 300 jeeps are allowed to enter Dudhsagar Falls every day, although tour operators have been requesting to increase the capacity during high season. Make reservations in advance, or prepare to wait in long lines if you wish to visit.

Goa is home to a ton of markets, but none offer the liveliness or selection of products found at Anjuna Market. For roughly 50 years, hundreds of vendors have been setting up shop on Anjuna Beach every Wednesday to tempt free-spirited travelers with hippy-inspired trinkets and souvenirs.

Ornate textiles, woven bikinis, sculptures of deities, dreamcatchers, hammocks, magnets, t-shirts with sassy slogans, beaded jewelry, toys – you name it, you can probably buy it here.

But even if you don't want to shop, you should still make a point to visit Anjuna Market for the sightseeing. The flea market is a swirling array of colorful wares, salespeople driving hard bargains, big bags of fresh spices, and street food galore. The vibe alone is one of the reasons why Anjuna Market is one of the top places to visit in Goa.

Make your way to the laid-back city of Panaji to visit another one of Goa's historic churches: The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.

The pristine white church, which dates back to the early 17th century, stands atop a zig-zagging staircase that resembles the tiers of a wedding cake. Its perfectly symmetrical Portuguese Baroque architecture is a sight to behold. At night, twinkle lights make the church look like something out of a fairy tale.

While not ornate, the church's interior boasts bright, colorful decorations. Tourists can see the elegant main altar (dedicated to Mary, mother of Jesus) and gilded pillars with elaborate carvings. Vines of blue and white blossoms often adorn parts of the vaulted ceiling around various holidays.

Dec. 8 marks the Festival of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception , a major holiday at this church. Swing by to see it decked out in tons of colorful lights.

See what houses in Goa looked like during the 17th century at Braganza House, a historical mansion that flanks the village square in Chandor. It's divided into an east and west wing, both of which are available for tourists to poke around at their leisure.

The east wing is home to members of the Pereira-Braganza family. It boasts a massive ballroom with an impressive marble floor, along with a small chapel that contains one of St. Francis Xavier's fingernails. This part of Braganza House also brims with antiques and international artifacts.

The western side preserves the original grandeur of Braganza House. Owned by the Menezes-Braganças, the museum-like space features an expansive library with 5,000 leather-bound books from the private collection of journalist Luis de Menezes Braganza, who played an important role in the Goan independence movement. Tourists can also see breathtaking Belgian glass chandeliers, antique portraits of the family, and Chinese porcelain.

Located just 12 kilometers north of Molem , Mahadev Temple gives tourists a chance to see a structure that has been standing since the 12th century. Goa's unique culture and heritage are on full display at Mangeshi Temple, a beautiful spiritual attraction that's been standing for roughly 450 years. The pastel blue, gold, and white temple features a seven-story tower that pays homage to one of the Hindu god Shiva's many incarnations: Manguesh. The temple structures surround a sacred pool of water , which is thought to be the most historic part of this religious site.

You can watch devotees perform pujas (worship rituals) at the temple every day. If you happen to be there on a Monday, you can watch the Manguesh idol taken out for a procession, complete with music, in the late afternoon or early evening.

Wildlife lovers should put Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary at the top of their Goa travel plans. The state's largest protected wildlife area, which spans 240 square kilometers and is also home to Molem National Park , is home to all kinds of amazing creatures, including the black leopard, Bengal tiger, Malabar giant squirrel, wild boar, slender loris, Indian rock python , and ruby-throated yellow bulbul (Goa's state bird).

Hiring a guide through a travel agent, and visiting the sanctuary in the early morning or late evening increases your chances at catching a glimpse of these animals. During the daytime, you can see the natural wonders of Dudhsagar Falls and Devil's Canyon . Whilst Goa is India’s smallest state, it is still nevertheless a state and is as big as some small countries. This itinerary covers the entire state from North to South and with several incursions inland. Therefore, to execute this Goa itinerary in 3 days you will need to change accommodation a few times.

The good news is that finding places to stay in Goa is pretty easy wherever you are. There are loads of guest houses, party hostels , hotels and homestays all eager for foreigners to crash – it is usually as simple as turning up in town and asking around.

The itinerary does leave time for changing accommodation and moving around and has also been designed to be flexible enough to adjust to suit your own needs. In terms of traveling around Goa, the bus system is very cheap, but rides can be long and very uncomfortable. Let’s get this straight, Goa is a State. Whilst it is India’s smallest state it is still bigger than a lot of countries. You need to choose where to stay in Goa very carefully as it will inform your experience and will affect your Goa itinerary hugely.

Goa is roughly divided into North Goa and South Goa. North Goa has a few more famous attractions than South Goa so if you’re wanting to spend some time doing typically touristy things then North Goa is a great place to start!

Most visitors opt to stay in a beach town or village. The prime ones in the North are Anjuna & Arambol for hippies & backpackers, and Baga beach and Calangute for package tourists. In the South, Palolem Beach & Agonda and Candolim are popular. There are Airbnbs in Baga , Calangute & Candolim but very few in Arambol & Anjuna.

If you don’t want to be near the beach then there are a few nice towns and cities set further back inland, Goa Airbnb listings tend to provide a nice variety of options to choose from.

Panjim is a nice city in the Northern Goa region! It’s home to many gorgeous old Portuguese mansions and some good art galleries.

For the first day of our 3 day Goa itinerary we are gonna base ourselves in Panjim or Panaji, the Goan state capital. Whist this city is inland, away from the lush beaches, it is one of India’s cleanest and most pleasant cities. It abounds with beautiful old colonial mansions and is well situated for executing day 1 of our itinerary.

10:00 – Old Goa

Old Goa is the former Portuguese Colonial capital. It was once considered a great city of the world rivalling even Lisbon itself I’m terms of its wealth, culture and beauty.

Most of Old Goa has been lost to the ravages of time but thankfully, enough has survived to justify a visit. The Dom Jesus Basilica is perhaps the grandest Christian temple in the whole of Asia. Then there are the ruins of the old Church of St Augustine. which blend into the Goan jungle like a level from Tomb Raider.

Old Goa can easily be explored in a day or even in half a day. The issue is getting there as it is about 20km away from the beaches. You can book a private or a bus tour from any travel agent in pretty much any resort which will leave in the morning and drop you back home after dark.

The Basilica of Bom Jesus Church is now a UNESCO world heritage site. Although the building is very rustic, it’s incredibly beautiful too. A church may seem like a strange place to visit while staying in Goa, India. But because Goa was colonized by the Portuguese for so long, many Hindus converted to Catholicism over this period of time. This is one of Goa’s best places to visit in 3 days.

A solid option, is to join an electric bike tour so you can really explore the jungles and roads!

15:00 – Sahakari Spice Farm

At the Sahakari Spice Farm , you’ll get the chance to take in the incredible fragrance of the beautiful spice farm! These lush plantations are not all there is on offer at the spice farm though.

During your tour, you’ll be shown how to climb the trees and swing from palm to palm! If any guest on the tour is brave enough to give it a try, they’re encouraged with enthusiasm. This often creates a lot of laughs among the tour group!

For those interested in a more relaxing form of entertainment, you will be treated to a folk dance by some of the female laborers and children who live on the farm. These often contain lots of color and excitement!

The Hanuman Theatre in Mapusa is home to some of the most incredible Tiatr! Just like Broadway there are many different types of Tiatr that take place, these all have different names and contain different entertainment elements (dancing, singing, etc.)

To be honest, it doesn’t really matter which you decide to go see, they’re all great and can be enjoyed whether you understand the words or not.

The word Tiatr comes from the Portuguese word ‘Teatro’ – meaning theatre. As you know by now, Goa is heavily influenced by the Portuguese because of its previous colonization by Portugal.

For day 2, we’re gonna head for the beaches. Pack your bag into a taxi, or jump on a bus towards Anjuna. Whether you decide to base yourself in Anjuna or Vagator is fine.

10:00 – Relax on Little Vagator Beach

Once you’ve checked in to your new digs, hit the beach!

Although it’s free to relax on the beach, if you’d like to make use of the loungers that line the beach, you’ll have to buy something from the restaurant. This isn’t a bad deal at all, cause trust me, you’ll want to be there a while! You can have drinks and food brought to you.

While lying back on your lounger, it’ll be hard to miss the many cows that stroll past and sit on the beach alongside you. There’s nothing to be scared of though, they are very peaceful creatures!

Due to the Hindu culture in Goa, it’s illegal to kill or harm these beautiful creatures. This means that you’ll find them roaming the streets and congregating in open areas – such as the beach.

14:00 – Foot Massage on The Beach

After all your gallivanting around you’ll be doing during your trip, you’ll be in need of a great foot massage! Luckily for you, they offer them right on the beach – along with a variety of other treatments. So it’s about time you put your feet up and enjoyed some good ol’ relaxation!

Be sure to ask around for the best price before settling on a masseuse, some tend to charge a lot less than $6!

14:30 – Sea Rafting

After all that relaxing, I’m sure you’re down to try something crazy. How about a bit of sea rafting?

After about half an hour of training on the beach, you and your team will be ready to hit the waves! Don’t worry, your guide will be with you to lead you every step of the way! The waves can be a bit daunting at first, but once you’ve caught your first wave, you won’t want to stop!

Be sure to head up the beach for some beers at one of the many beach shacks that call this beach their home.

17:00 – Dinner at Artjuna

Artjuna is one of my favourite spots in Artjuna. It is a cafe with spacious grounds where you can spend the whole day for a price of a few coffees. The food is proper decent offering a mix of Indian food, vegan grub and a few Israeli specialities.

Other excellent dinner spots include Sakana in Vagator (delicious, pricy, sushi) or you can just hit up on the beach shacks like Curries for a fish tandoori.

18:00 (Onwards) – Attend a Goan Trance Party

Goan Trance (latterly Psytrance) is perhaps Goa’s greatest gift to the world and you absolutely should not miss the chance to experience a Goa Trance party first-hand. The scene emerged in and around Anjuna in the early 90’s and reached worldwide fame with “Goa parties” popping up all around the world.

The music itself, is a fast, intense and utterly trippy form of electronic dance music. If you have never heard it before, it may be a bit much for you but bear in mind that it is a sound best heard in altered states . There’s a reason Goa ranks as one of the best places in the world to party !

There are trance parties most nights during high season (Nov – Mar) but the scene is curtailed a bit during election years. My personal picks are Shiva Valley (Anjuna) on Tuesday nights and the occasional, underground parties organised by The Trip Foundation in and around Arambol. The parties start after sunset (around 18:00) and go on until well after sunrise the following morning.

Another great venue is House of Chapora (Chapora is a 10 minute aside from Anjuna). I particularly recommend following Pandora Collective who are organising 2-3 great parties each week all across North Goa – there Instagram handle is @pandoracollective.

Hilltop (Anjuna) attracts the big names but is a bit over-priced and soulless but still the Sunday afternoon sessions are nice if you want to be in bed early.

For day 3, we’re heading North across the river up towards Arambol. If you stayed out all night partying, either skip over the morning section of this itinerary or sack it off altogether and spend today hanging out in Anjuna’s German Bakery.

10:30 – Ride to Querim Beach

For a taste of true paradise, you must make the 30 minute scooter ride North from Arambol towards Querim (Keri) beach. Keri is a small village set in the mangrove forests and is home to one of North Goa’s quietest beaches. You can rent a sun longer, order food and drinks from the shacks or even rent a surfboard.

As well as exploring the beach, the ride itself is also worth savouring. There is little traffic in and around Keri and plenty of back roads that lead through the forest to explore. Bring a bottle of water and sun cream and simply enjoy the experience of being in the riding seat watching beautiful Goa pass by.

13:00 – Fish Thali at the Thali Shack

Just by the first, main park on Arambol beach, there is a completely unassuming looking little shack (a man selling coconuts sit’s by the door). Whilst you may be tempted to walk right past, don’t; because it offers the best and possibly cheapest Thali’s in Arambol.

A Thali is a big silver tray filled with rice, veg and a few different types of curry. The options are Veg, Chicken or Fish – the latter is particularly sublime.

14:00 – Visit the Sweet Water Lake in Arambol

The Sweet Water Lake is a freshwater lagoon with a source that originates in the Goan Jungle. The Sweet Water Lake is warmed by a natural hot spring, so going for a swim is a must in the late evening!

The Lagoon is surrounded by luscious greenery, overhanging thick jungle branches, and coconut groves. Steam rises slowly from the lagoon, making it a beautifully picturesque scene to take in, and the perfect place to snap some pics for the gram!

There is a beach just a short walk from the lagoon that is only accessible by foot. There are loads of shack’s and restaurants selling classic Goan food.

15:00 – Join a Yoga Session

I once checked the notice board in Arambol and realised that there is a yoga class taking place somewhere in town, at every minute of the day. Arambol is a proper yoga Mecca and churns out newly qualified yoga teacher like Yale & Oxford churn out future venture capitalists and war-mongers.

Therefore you won’t have to try too hard to find a Yoga class. Either check the notice board, ask around or ask any slender, toned yogini you encounter.

17:30 – Sunset Drum Circle & Market

Every evening on Arambol beach, the place to be is the drum circle. It is literally a circle where anybody can come, bring a drum and bang it. Whilst the sound is (for me) a bit tedious, it is nevertheless a very pleasant gathering and attracts the Goa freaks who come to congregate.

From here, walk down to the sunset market where you can barter for hand made jewellery, post cards and other wares.

19:00 – Ecstatic Dance at The Source

Dance is a way of life in Goa. Whilst you may be exhausted from last nights trance session, I guarantee your legs will still summon the energy for one more boogie! Ecstatic Dance is a giant sober (no drugs or alcohol) party that takes place around a giant Banyan tree at the source.

You may initially need some time to get over your inhibitions (dancing sober?!) but you’ll soon get into it. Ecstatic Dance is massive fun, don’t miss it. If this is your first time in Goa, then its time to embrace your inner hippy!

21:00 – Late Dinner at Aladdin’s

Aladdin’s is one of Arambol’s best restaurants. It has massive menu ranging from bar-bq, Indian classics and some very interesting vegetarian dishes. It is quite pricy for Indian standards but worth it for a treat.

Tiswadi is the best place to stay if you’re visiting Goa for the first time. Home to the capital city, Panjim, Tiswadi is where you’ll find most of Goa’s cultural sights, the vibrant Latin Quarter, and charming Old Goa.

Visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus, which contains the tomb and mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier.
Explore Fontainhas, Goa’s Latin Quarter full of colonial character, cobblestone streets, and vibrant, and colourful houses.
Be amazed at Sé Cathedral, the largest church in Asia measuring more than 76 meters long and 55 meters wide.

If you are planning a trip that is longer than 3 days in Goa, then here are a few things you need to add to your itinerary for the rest of your trip.

Arpora Night Market

The Saturday night market in Arpora is a true Goa institution. It is a weekly mega market where you can barter hard for incense, jewellery, stones, gods, clothes, sheets and wonderful things you probably don’t even know exist!

As well as being a shoppers delight, the market has plenty of food stalls and a few bars mixing Techno into the early hours.

All of the above said, the word on the street is that the sun is setting on the Arpora Night market. Apparently the conduct of management has forced a lot of boutique owners and niche designers away and they can now be found at the Hilltop Friday Night Market instead. The Night Markets are amongst the best things to do in Goa in 3 days.

Visit Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary Near Ganjem

The Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary contains a mini zoo so that children and adults alike can see the animals up close. Plus, it has a massive deer park, which means that the deer can roam freely in their natural habitat! It also contains a botanical garden and a rose garden, for those who love flowers!

Here you’ll be educated about the animals and the bird life, as well as the vegetation found in Goa! This is a trip that will intrigue nature-lovers, so be sure you don’t miss out!

It’s only 38 kilometers from Margao.
There is a jungle resort containing tourist cottages on the property, just in case you want to stay the night.
There are plenty of different attractions, so you’re bound to find something that will suit your taste.

Visit Brahma Karmali Temple

The Brahma Karmali Temple is one of the oldest temples in Goa! The temple attracts a lot of devoted worshippers from around the region. Based in Carambolim, this temple is said to have played a pivotal role in Goa’s struggle for freedom. Many sessions were held in the building by a member of Congress during the time of struggle.

Learning about the fascinating history of this temple is spiritually moving, and exploring the temple grounds is a wonderfully relaxing experience!

This temple is named after a nearby town – Brahma Karmali.
The main idol inside the temple is said to date back to the 12th century.
Visiting and exploring this temple is absolutely free.

Hike to Hivre Waterfall

This waterfall is a great place to visit for nature-lovers and adventure junkies alike! During the hike to the waterfall, you will walk along a narrow pathway through the forest. Along the way, you’ll see beautiful river creeks that wind their way through the forest.

The locals that visit the waterfall are always friendly and helpful, and don’t mind guiding tourists to the waterfall with them!

Hivre Waterfall is popular amongst locals and tourists alike so it’s often busy, especially on weekends.
The waterfall is located only 14 kilometers from Valpoi City.
You will need to travel through the Thane village to get to the Hivre falls!

Goa is definitely a seasonal destination and best experienced during the Northern hemispheres winter. The crowds flock to Goa between November and February when the weather is perfect. If you come off-season, not much may be happening. The high summer months are best avoided altogether as this is when monsoon hits.

During peak tourist season in Goa, the beaches are the place to be! The water is perfect, there are nightly parties, and it never rains. As the monsoon season in Goa approaches though, the beaches become more and more empty.

However if you’re not a beach bum, then the rainy season can be equally as beautiful! During the summer in Goa, mist rises over the plantations and fields, and rain cleans the cities, leaving them smelling fresh and new. Visiting India during June will also allow you to attend the Sao Joao Festival, which is one of the coolest celebrations in Goa .

There are a number of Goa transport options available depending on where in Goa you are, where you are going and what you want to do. For example, beach towns and cities themselves are pretty easy to walk around. However, to get between them you will need an engine. Tuk-Tuk’s (Rickshaws) are available in some parts of Goa but are banned from a lot of the Northern tourist hubs. Taxi’s are easy to find but Goa’s are expensive by Indian standards.

Renting a scooter is the most popular transport method. They can be rented anywhere in Goa easily and cheaply.

Hiring a tour guide with a vehicle is also a good idea for tackling some of the suggestions on this itinerary.

Whether you’re a solo traveler or traveling with your posse, there’ll be plenty of activities to keep you occupied on your trip to Goa! Here’s just a few that you shouldn’t miss out on!

Travel in India does carry with it a set of risks and Goa is no exception.

The biggest danger is the endless raft of scams which are played on unsuspecting foreigners and of which there are too many to list. Other than this, never leave your valuables unattended and always lock your room.

Be very careful of bad drivers whether you are riding a scooter or simply a pedestrian. If you are riding a scooter, always wear a helmet.

Be careful when swimming whether in the sea or the delta as under-currents can be deadly, especially at night. Use lots of sunscreen and drink plenty of bottled, mineral water. Food hygiene is generally pretty good in Goa but use common sense.

Women travellers sadly need to be extra careful as each year they are the victims of rape, assault and even murders in Goa. Take great care at night and try to travel in a group whenever possible. Avoid dark, unlit areas as much as possible. If you are riding your bike at night, do not stop in lonely areas ( you may be being followed ). Be very careful in or around Trance parties, be mindful of what you consume and watch your drinks like a hawk.

Where is the Braganza mansion (that you have mentioned close to Arambol). All search results only point to Menezes Braganza mansion in Chandor, South Goa.

Yes you are right. The Braganza mansion is in South Goa which is nowhere near Arambol at all. The writer who created this piece clearly had a moment of confusion. We have rectified the copy.

Personally I absolutely love Goa (Psytrance!!!!), have spent several months there and cannot wait to visit again. However, the FACT is that Goa can be very dangerous for women and there is no point in denying this – it doesn’t help anybody.

FYI – I am not from the US so cannot comment on American hospitality.

Cows on the baga beach: only in India: strange things about Goa

By the shore of Arabian Sea, Goa, a small Indian state sits pretty on the Western coast. Aside numerous pretty beaches dotting the sea, Goa unfolds luminous layers of history for a curious soul. A walk on the old Goa’s narrow cobbled (and UNESCO heritage) streets tells volume on the 450 years of Portuguese colonial past. Tambi Surla, a Shiva temple hidden on in the forest of Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary has stories to tell from another era. Beyond the sunny long stretched shore of Baga and Candolim, Goa keeps her secrets in the lagoons and backwaters of Mandovi river. It had always been my dream to travel to Goa for seven days. When I finally did, I wished if only I would have had another couple of weeks to explore all the splendors the state has on offer.

7 days in Goa needs to be allocated wisely!

Just to give a rough idea before I explain this 7 days in Goa Itinerary further, Goa can be segmented in 4 parts. This includes the most beautiful beaches of Goa . You may explore some of them in a long weekend vacation to Goa as well!

Baga and Calangute: The two beaches on the North Goa are strategically located closeby. This is where maximum number of tourists visit. These beaches are usually crowded on tourist season (super crowded on long weekends). However, there are plenty of activities, cafes, places to stay. Expect to pay tourist price for everything.
North Goa : Beyong Baga, there are beautiful beaches at the wee end of the north. Consider Arambol, Ashwem, Mandrem. They remain pristine and away from the hawk eye of vendors.
South Goa : Away from everything, South Goa holds the true secret of freedom, which gave Goa its fare share of fame. beaches, forts, hikes and plenty of unexplored regions lies here. If you seek quaint, you must visit South Goa!
Panaji : The capital of Goa, houses only a couple of local beaches. Panaji is where you will be heading if you are in Goa for work. Despite a lack of beach life, Panaji is famous for old Latin quarters, UNESCO heritage churches and vibrant local life.

Day 1: Reaching Goa & Stay at Baga

Stay at Baga, Dine by the beach

Assuming you are flying into Goa, you are ideally to reach Dabolim airport at the start of the day. If you are late, say reaching by 10 pm or so, it may be a challenge to get a mode of public transport to Baga. It is best if you get in touch with you accommodation provider.

Kadamba line of AC bus fleet runs at least till 6 pm. However, public transport in Goa is still in its nascent stage.

If you are traveling by train, you have plenty of cabs to hire from the station itself. indian railway stations are identical that way.

It will take at least an hour to reach from airport to Baga.

Reserve this day for rendezvous with the beach. Expect a glorious sunset.

Secure a seat by the beachside restaurants. Ratnakar is a fine choice if you like sheesha and alcohol with high streaks of energy. Tito’s is more famous among the tourists. Do make a reservation before you visit.

Alternatively , Goa also houses India’s only casino ships close to its shoreline. Since gambling is prohibited on Indian land, these casino ships are permanently anchored on the sea. They ensure even the rough waves of monsoon very well. I visited Deltin Royal Cruise on the fateful night of Cyclone Kyarr and did not feel a thing. The next morning, the fallen coconut trees of the Ashwem beach narrated the story.

Anyway, experiencing a cruise liner is a prized deal. The ship has various games on-board and forms of entertainment aside a large buffet. Sparkling goblets of wine galore everywhere. I did not find the food amusing though. If you like to party the night away, the Cruise liners of Goa will be your best choice!

Day 2: Birding at Salim Ali Sanctuary, Divar Island & Latin quarter at Old Goa UNESCO sites

Birding and heritage walk in Old Goa

Since Goa will have you for good seven long days, we will allocate a day for the hinterlands of the coastal state.

Wake up early and head towards the Divar island, Goa’s largest riverine island on Mandovi river. Ironic because in Konkani language, Divar means small.

Home to an exclusive high class wellness resort Mercure Devaaya, Divar island is intense on local heritage. Timeless Portuguese bungalows sleep under the shadow of banyan trees. Old churches and quaint little sleepy neighborhood covers Goa’s Mantra for peaceful life, Susegad.

Next to Divar island, lies Chorao island , connected by Ribandar ferry. Chorao island houses the famed Dr. Salim Ali Bird sanctuary. I think this can be a great educational experience for kids too. From mangroves to crocodile and mud-skippers & crabs, all join in to celebrates the fast depleting bird population.

Best time for birding at Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary: 6 am to 8 pm. “Afternoon no bird”, told me the guard at Mercure Hotel.

Some species of Birds that can be seen at Chorao island: Brahminy Kites, Egrets, Heron, Little Black Cormorants, Paradise fly catcher, Kingfishers, woodpeckers, Drongo etc.

No cost for passengers on the ferry. INR 10 for vehicle, in case you are bringing in a cycle. There is a ferry at 6:20 am.

If you reach early, you will find a guide, who shows around the island on a private boat and charges a fee.

Old Goa: UNESCO heritage sites: Velha Goa

On the way back, make a stop at Old Goa. Also known as Velha Goa, this is listed as WORLD UNESCO heritage site for cultural heritage of its numerous churches! It is also one of the first seats of Catholic Christianity in India.

Goa, during the rule of Portuguese was hailed as the Rome of the east. One look at the remnants of the Old Capital of the Portuguese in India, and you will know why.

Velha Goa houses some of the country’s finest cathedrals and Churches. Be it the whitewashed Se cathedral or the humongous Basilica of Bom Jesus, they are grand in structure, and stand witness to Goa’s regal past. A catastrophic plague outbreak and subsequent invasions led to Velha Goa being abandoned.

Take care while exploring the area, especially if you are on your own. The narrow alleys and old houses are often prone to snake attacks.

Fontainghas: Portuguese Houses in Goa. At Mercure Devaaya resort

Head towards Fontainhas , the Latin Quarter of Goa. This is the last stop before you are heading back to the beach at Baga.

Often termed as the Old Quarter or Latin Quarter of Goa , Fontainhas houses Old Portuguese Bungalows that are painted with a riot of color. Do not be surprised if they resemble like one quaint little town from an obscure European countryside. The houses has old school wall sized glass window, panes of which is colored in white. Oftentimes, an Azulejos tiles adorn the gate.

There are two beautiful eateries at Fontainhas. They are, Venite Bar and Viva Panjim . Both are quirky and very photogenic (okay, Instagrammable places in Goa). Google both and choose where you wanna visit. Joseph Bar remains as one old world wonder at Fontainhas! If you are craving for good Konkani cuisine, head towards Saib . I love their fish Thali. Awadh House is one of the better places to eat in Panjim if you are craving fro delectable Awadhi cuisine of North. It differs from the Punjabi Thalis to a large extent so try if you are a meatlover.

Truth is, I have seen neighborhoods like Fontainhas in multiple places while exploring the interiors of Goa. However, Fontainhas has opened its arm for tourists, with beautiful galleries, guest houses, and cafes and is located strategically in Panjim. You will not get these benefits in the rest of old neighborhoods in Goa, though they seemed to be more rustic and authentic.

The best part of Fontainhas is, you can retire here for a day, if you can let go the call of the beach. A few famous home stays at Fontainhas are: La Maison , the Caravela Homestay , Abrigo Fontainhas , Mateus Boutique Hotel, the White Balchao . A good Hostel in this area is the Old Quarter .

Considering it is a long day since early morning, it is recommended to put up at Fontainhas. However, if you have to, you can be back at Baga or Calangute. Try to make it before the sunset so that you have beautiful view of the setting sun behind ocean.

Day 3: Beach Hopping to North Goa, Visit a night Market

Explore beaches of North Goa: Vagator, Anjuna, Morjim, Ashwem, Mandrem, Arambol

The day starts with exploring the beaches of North Goa. Rent a bike and start early. Things you need for a bike rental: 1. Government ID for deposit. You get it back once you return the bike, with fuel recharged. 2. INR 250 per day as rental fee (seasonal variation is expected) 3. Goa, like the rest of India, drives on the left of the road

Paved highway stretches till the wee end of the state border. You can ride as far as you want. Make pit stops on the way for a quick sugar cane drink, or snap a postcard of the rural huts adorned with floral design. You can take a detour off the highway and make pit-stops among the coconut groves for that quintessential Instagram shot.

Originally, it was shot in ar Parra. I am talking about the famous Goa scene from the Bollywood movie, Love you Jindagi, where Alia Bhat cycles amidst pristine verdant valley dotted with coconut trees with a hill at the backdrop. Now the village is raged with tourist footfall and is on the verge of charging tourists an entry fee.

I suggest skip Parra and look out for a similar setting off the main road, which lies plenty in Goa. Drive towards up north till you reach Vagator beach. The cliff hides the moon-shaped beach from prying eyes of the world.

From Vagator, head towards Morjim beach. Morjim is a rocky beach. Tidal waves bare up the sandy shore in day time. If you are looking for a beach to swim, head towards Ashwem. I stayed by the Ashwem beach at Yab Yum Resort for a couple of days and vouch for the relaxing vibe here. It is a crescent shaped beach, great for swimming. The waves swell well and make it a choice for surfers too.

I suggest stop at the La Plage for lunch. The beachside restaurant serves great French cuisine.

If you want to explore more beaches up north, you have Mandrem and Arambol on the same coast line. Saddle up the bike and wizz past green patches of verdant valley, cow shades, backwaters, dry river beds. You have reached the last wilderness of Goa!

Heading back to Baga from this area is a good 1.5 hours drive. Road is good. I have even seen traffic jams on certain days post sunset. In this route, there are 4 scenic spots to watch the sunset. You choose one based on your preferences.

Chapora Fort (of Dil Chahta Hain movie fame) for adventurers
Sunset point at Anjuna for those who love a rocky beac
Romantic sundowner at the Thalassa Cafe, small Vagator beach
Arambol Beach where sunset takes place in the rhythm of iconic drum circle by the last remaining hippie trail (Far off from Baga hence be prepared for a long drive back home)

On the way back, make it a point to stop at the night markets of Calangute. You may also plan a visit to the iconic Anjuna Flea market which runs every Wednesday from 9am to 6pm. Once a place where Hippies traded their exotic European made items, now is flooded with Chinese products, swimwear and costume jewelry.

Once you are back in Baga, rest for a while. For dinner, head out to Souza Lobo. Now running by the third generation of a local family, Souza Lobo is a beach side iconic bar and served amazing cheese baked crab. Highly recommend.

Day 4: Indulge in some watersports & reach South Goa

Fort Aguada, Sinquerim beach, Travel to South Goa

This is the last day in North Goa for this one week itinerary. To make the most of it, we will let our adrelanine rush through! Today, we will flirt with the crazy waves of Arabian sea.

From Baga, head straight towards Aguada beach. The Portuguese Fort stands erect for centuries keeping a close eye against enemy invasion. Aguada is also famed for filling ship tanks with potable water in olden days.

A four storey light house stand at the end of Aguada. Explore the fort and find a a way to the Sinquerim beach which lies next to Aguada.

Watersports at Sinquerim Beach

People from all over India head towards Sinquerim beach for a number of watersports. From benign banana boat to dangerous jet jet ski, you name it and you get it! Kitesurfing, parasailing etc takes place too.

I suggest go for parasailing. You fly high over the Arabian sea, with the Aguada fort on left and endless ocean on the other side. It is simply breathtaking.

Prices vary depending on demand and seasonal footfall. Also, water sports activity is closed during monsoon owing to killing wind and swells. we paid INR 2000 per head back in 2017 for parasailing.

Heading towards Palolem Beach, South Goa

It is time to head towards South Goa now. While South Goa does not match up to the North Goa when it comes to party or lively vibes, it hides stretches of pristine, verdant land and some of the finest beaches of Indian subcontinent.

From the Central bus station at Panjim, bus ply towards Margaon in South Goa till 6 pm. It charges a nominal INR 30/50. You can also rent a car or a bike and drive towards Palolem in south. On the way, make it a point to stop at the ruined fort of Cabo De Rama. If you can make it during Sunset, you will be getting pristine shots! Cabo De rama is one of the most offbeat things to do in Goa.

Day 5: Beach day at Palolem & Patnem

From Yoga to Cow watching to boat-ride to catch a glimpse of the Dolphins, you have an entire day to relax and soak in the glorious sun in Goa on this day! In this 7 day long itinerary of Goa, this is probably the first day of a beach living.

As we say, “Der Aye par Durast Aye.” It came late but it came in style!

One of the leading reporting agency listed Palolem as Top 20 places to visit in Asia or sorts, you know what I mean. Ever since, a number of tourists head towards Palolem and long for a stay by the coveted beach hut. Colorful bamboo made beach huts adorn the sea-shore. With tourists came shops and cafes too.

However, Palolem remains significantly off the beat beach destination in Goa, compared to Baga or Calangute. Tourist footfall has not yet disrupted local life. Early morning, you can see fishermen busying themselves for the day’s toil. A dog and a cow will join you at the beach as you tan yourself. Overall, it remains one of the laid beach beaches in Goa and feels nice.

In the evening, walk towards, Patnem, a smaller and lesser known beach located close by. I think it is 10 minutes walk. It is beautiful nonetheless.

Day 6: Choose a day trip between Dudhsagar or Karwar

Dudhsagar Waterfalls embodies what monsoon does to the state of the Goa, with its lush green dense surrounding amidst the steep of the Wetern Ghats and four tiered cascading flow of white water, meaning ocean of milk. Located at Mollem, South Goa, Dudhsagar calls for a day trip and trekking up the hill to experience something ethereal. The waterfall is shared between the states of Karnataka and Goa.

It is located by the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. A few spice plantation and a farm stay is located close by too. Tambi Surla, a twelfth century Shiva temple is located here.

If you are heading towards Goa from Bangalore by train, make a stop at Castle Rock. From Pune or Mumbai, stop at Kulem. Shared Jeep goes till the waterfall if you are not too keen to trek the entire distance. Also, there is a daily cap on the number of people allowed to visit, especially during monsoon. Do take an account for that while planning for Dudhsagar trekking.

The trekking is through dark long tunnel made a century ago, now abandoned. Lifeless train tracks kiss the ground. Aroma of fresh rain makes one dizzy. You reach the fall and reach a small natural pool, where swimming is allowed. You can even change to a swimsuit.

If you are journeying by train through Konkon coast, you will get a full view of the falls. It looks spectacular during comsoon. earlier train used to stop for a few minutes. However, trains just slow down these days and do not stop.

Usually fed by torrential rain, Dudhsagar loses its glory during dry season. Though the trek is rewarding nonetheless.

Alternatively, visit the Karwar Beach

“The sea beach of Karwar is certainly a fit place in which to realize that the beauty of Nature is not a mirage of the imagination, but reflects the joy of the Infinite and thus draws us to lose ourselves in it. Where the universe is expressing itself in the magic of its laws it may not be strange if we miss its infinitude; but where the heart gets into immediate touch with immensity in the beauty of the meanest of things, is any room left for argument?” Rabindranath Thakur

If you are not too keen on trekking to Dudhsagar Falls or traveling during turbulent monsoon, I suggest drive towards Karwar. Located by the coast of Uttara Karnataka, Karwar is an untouched region, where local flavor is very strong. It is only half an hour’s drive from Palolem. It is where kali river meets Arabian sea.

Karwar has a beach named after Rabindranath Thakur. Tagore beach, as they call it, also houses the annual three days Karwar festival. For me that is reason enough to fall in lve with Karwar.

You can also visit nearby pristine islands, provided low tide, and a ruined fort named Sadashivgar.

Kurle Ambat , the delightful Crab Masala of Konkan region is a must have while traveling in Karwar. Also, the iconic Gadbad ice cream, where bits of fresh fruit tease cold cream gently in a tunbler! Hotel Amrut is particularly famous for sea food platter. The ghee roasts and sukka tells you that you are truding a fine border area, close to Goa yet so not Goa!

Karwar has plenty of water sports but rates are cheaper than Goa. The beach also houses INS Chapal Warship museum. INS Kadamba (named after the Kadamba dynasty of the region) is Indian naval base located at Karwar.

Day 7: Beach day & Return

The seventh day in Goa beckons. The seven days in Goa whizzed past, right?

I know. Goa always does this. She akes up for a tremendeous trip and only leaves you wanting more of Goa.

If you are roadtripping in Goa and live somewhere down south, afternoon is a good time to start. If you are headed back towards Mumbai or the airport, you need to pack up early. Palolem is is 60 KM away from Dabplim. On a good day, it is a 90 minutes drive. But we suggest account for another hour extra. Dabolim is a small airport and sometimes the queue can get painfully long.

Assuming the flight/train is scheduled at night, you still have the morning to explore a few more beaches of Goa. It is all the more possible since the drive is through the coastal route.

Following are the beaches you can stop by while heading back to the airport.

Instead of beach hopping, you can also make a quick day trip to the nearby Butterfly beach from Agonda. Secluded by high cliffs, Butterfly beach can only be accessed by a boat. It looks a lot like a small lagoon with clear water. Butterfly beach is famous for Sunset views.

Agonda has plenty of good places to eat. I love Little Plantain leaf in Agonda. Love Bite is a great choice too for cozy vibes.

If you have a little longer than 7 days in Goa, I suggest follow this itinerary but spread it evenly. Keep a day to explore the beaches of south. Take two days to relax by Palolem beach and one extra day at Ashwem beach in North. Thus, you get to enjoy Goa for 10 days and indulge in the best things to do in the sunshine state. This itinerary equally covers the heritage and beaches of Goa.

If you are heading to Goa during monsoon, may be add one day for Divar island. Monsoon in Goa makes plenty of beaches off limit for tourists with coast guards barring entry. They are justified because Arabian sea becomes a demon with undercurrent pulls etc. Shacks do not open either. That said, monsoon in Goan hinterlands is breathtaking with lush green Western ghats and hidden waterfall trails!

I’ve never been parasailing but it looks so fun! Especially getting a view of the beautiful beaches.

Goa looks so beautiful to visit! Dudhsagar Waterfalls looks stunning with the train tracks that go beneath it. The food there looks really yummy as well.

Dudhsagar Falls looks particularly incredible – it kind of reminds me of Multnomah Falls in the US with the way the bridge goes across it. We didn’t make it to Goa on our India trip, but southern Indian food is one of my all-time favorites so next time we’ll definitely be checking this region out!!

July is the wettest and the greenest month of the year in Goa. During July, there is a surge of local tourist for visiting waterfalls around Goa. The temperature in July in Goa is between 25-30°C. During this time, there is heavy rainfall, often accompanied by strong winds.

You can find rain every single day of July month. Temperature is pleasant during this month. Goa is greener during this season and comparatively more peaceful. All the hotels, resorts, villas offer great discounts during the rainy season and you will also see a huge drop in flight fares.

During this month, you will not see many foreign tourists. However, beaches like Baga, Candolim, Calangute, and Anjuna are crowded throughout the years, mostly by Indian tourists.

Things to do in Goa in July

Spice Garden Visit: Goa has several spice garden such as Savoi, Sahakari Spice Farms, and the Tropical Spice Plantation. In the month of July, you will see greenery around with many spice plants, exotic flowers and hundreds of orchids. Spice Garden in Ponda offers a package for around 400 INR where you will have welcome drink, garland, tour of the local garden with information about different spices and enjoy an organic meal on banana leaf. If you are interested in elephant ride you can do that too. This place is also good for bird lovers.

Chikhal Kalo Festival: Chikhal Kalo or Chikhalkala is a typical festival celebrated in Goa by Devki-Krishna Devotees. The word Chikhal Kalo means “playing in the mud”. It is conducted in Marcel village during the rainy season in the month of July. People plunge in the mud to celebrate this event.

Dudhsagar Waterfall: You can visit the majestic Dudhsagar waterfall located in Goa-Karnataka border, with an impressive 310m (1017ft) in height and about 100ft in width.

Tambli Surla Temple: It is a 12th-century temple of the Lord Mahadeva and an active place of Hindu worship. It is notable as the oldest temple in Goa, India. It is placed near Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary. Temple is approximately 60 kilometers from Panaji. There is a headless Nandi right at the center of the temple. River Surla flows by the temple. The location is so pristine that you will definitely love to visit the temple not once but several times. The temple is surrounded by rich flora and cascading Tambdi Surla in the background. Some of the nearby most visited places are Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, Famous Dudhsagar Waterfall. You will not find a good mobile network at this place.

Aravalem Waterfall: It is also known as Harvalalem waterfall and is situated Sanquelim village at a distance of 30 km from Panjim city. You can visit this place by bus/car/rental bike. You can take a bus from Panjim that goes in the direction of Valpoi and your stop will be Harvale. From the bus stop the waterfall is around 500 m. The waterfall is in the premise of a 7th Century Buddhist cave. It will be on the way if you are traveling from Panjim to Dudhsagar water fall.

Trekking around the Western Ghats : The trekking club in Goa gets active during the monsoon. You can join any such group and take part in trekking events. Goa Hiking Association and Youth Hostel Association of India – Goa are popular clubs here for trekking and adventure activities.

Kayaking: It is usually held along the coast, rivers, and backwaters of Goa in places like Chicalim, Vasco da Gama. This happens throughout the year including the monsoons

Flight Booking Sites: I always try to find the best month and city to fly using Sky Scanner and Kayak and then look out offers in Goibibo , MakeMyTrip and book wherever I found the cheapest deal.

Hotel Booking Sites: I first look for a decently located hostel or hotel in booking.com which has 8+ rating and 50+ review and then check its price in MakeMyTrip and book accordingly. I do find some hotel prices are very high in booking.com and comparatively low at MMT. Hotelscombined also gives a decent deal from time to time.

Adventure Activities: If you do not know about Klook , you are missing a big saving. You can save 20-30% of the ticket price when you book at Klook as compared to booking at the venue.

Trekking Trips : You can join any such group and take part in trekking events. Goa Hiking Association and Y outh Hostel Association of India – Goa are popular clubs here for trekking and adventure activities.
