- HAMILTON HARBOUR QUEEN
Hamilton Harbour Queen
By Kristin Archer Photos by Lisa Vuyk
I’ve been enthralled with the Waterfront and the idea of taking a boat trip around the harbour since the very beginning of this blog, over five years ago. I had experienced one cruise and one boat tour so far, but it had been a few years since I hit the water. When Hamilton Harbour Queen invited me out to experience one of their dinner cruises, I jumped at the chance to hit the high seas! (Apologies in advance for any misused nautical jargon in this post.)
The Hamilton Harbour Queen sets sail with lunch, dinner and brunch cruises, as well as special events. They run until Thanksgiving – check out their calendar for all events and to reserve tickets. Lunch and dinner run on Thursdays and there are select dates for brunch and special events, including live music and dance parties. If you miss out this time, be sure to take advantage next season!
I was very excited to experience the dinner cruise, especially knowing the sunset views would be unbelievable! But I also love the idea of brunching on a boat. This just means I’ll have to return. At the helm is Chef Robert To – I first sampled the culinary stylings of Chef Robert a few years back when a Dishcrawl adventure led us to Nino’s Ristorante on King William. The meal on the cruise is served buffet-style and there was a delicious and filling spread. Our dinner consisted of:
- Coconut shrimp with mango thai dipping sauce (my favourite menu item – I had to go back for more)
- Vegetable spring rolls
- Antipasto platter with salami, olives, bocconcini cheese, cantaloupe, roasted red peppers
- Chef’s rice
- Lamb skewers with plum sauce
- Smoked salmon served with fresh bread, horseradish & cream
- House salad
- Potato salad
First we set sail and got to roam around the boat and take photos as we launched away from the harbour. It had been a while, and I forgot how much I love the sensation of being on the water. I had “I’m On A Boat” stuck in my head all day leading up to it, and made sure to wear a nautical-inspired outfit. Stripes all the way.
The dinner cruise boards at 6:30pm, and sets out from 7-10pm. Shortly after we roamed around (there’s also a cash bar to imbibe in), dinner was served and we went below deck to our assigned tables. It’s such a neat experience to look out at the water beside you. The sun was beginning to set as we ate, so we hopped up and down a few times to race out and get the most picturesque photos.
Later on as we roamed around the front of the boat, the Captain waved us over, and my first thought was, “Uh oh, I’m being summoned by The Captain!” It was a friendly gesture – he knew Lisa and I would appreciate the photo opportunity inside. But it wasn’t just for show – he asked us if we wanted to try steering the ship. Why not! As he directed me, somehow I instinctively knew where Port and Starboard were. He said it seemed like I’ve done this before. I resisted the urge to shout “TALLY HO!”
We had a nice chat with the Captain, just shooting the breeze, and he shared about his family and we remarked how fast time goes. Wise words from the Captain, himself: “Enjoy it now. Any new adventures, just do it.”
It was a cloudy night with storm clouds in the distance (this I couldn’t resist declaring – “There’s a storm a brewin!!”) and it made for the most gorgeous sky. We watched the sunset get even more brilliant by the second. Once it was dark, the sky was painted the most beautiful deep blue, mauve, grey and purple.
When it was dark, I went with some red wine after dinner and we went back up top to take in the night sky. It was so quiet and peaceful, looking out to the city skyline in the distance. For a minute there, I was up at the front by myself, wine in hand, gazing out onto the water. I pretended for a minute that it was my own ship. Just cruisin’ in style.
As much fun as a boat party is, and I look forward to checking out more events aboard the Hamilton Harbour Queen with a DJ and live bands, I really enjoyed this serene ride around the Waterfront. I could seriously do it every day!
Note: I was invited out as a guest of Hamilton Harbour Queen, but all thoughts about the event are my own.

The Best Hamilton Cruises for 2022 | Hamilton Harbour Queen
We welcome you, lovers of enjoyable cruise vacations in Hamilton! We are a team of Hamilton Harbour Queen enthusiasts, and we can’t live without cruising. Even this text you’re reading right now, we’re posting while on one of the exciting cruises in the Hamilton region. Are we sitting still? That’s not for us! We’re all for active, varied and just plain exciting vacations with raucous parties and unforgettable memories.
Today we’re excited to tell you a thing or two about lake cruises in the city of Hamilton.
Why Is Hamilton So Appealing?
Those who favor large-ship cruises won’t be disappointed by a trip to Bermuda. Still, unfortunately, neither the mouth of Hamilton Harbour nor the port facilities in town can accommodate larger ships.
This means that cruise ships based in Hamilton, Bermuda’s capital city (or even at the lovely St. George’s), must now go to King’s Wharf. This trend is expected to continue (also known as the Royal Navy Dockyard).
However, this does not imply that one must avoid visiting Hamilton: the Dockyards are only a short boat trip away from the city.
We can organize trips and parties for any number of participants. For example, most recently one of our boats hosted prize winners presented with a sea tour under a VIP programme.
In any case, it is strongly recommended that you pay for a trip to Hamilton in advance. It is also the location that receives the most tourists due to the abundance of tourist attractions that can be found there, including Bermuda’s most recent addition, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute .
Walking is a great way to view the majority of the sites. You’ll fall in love with the quaint pastel-colored two-story buildings that line Front Street as you stroll around this gorgeous port town (take a break inside the Par-La-Ville Gardens on Queen Street).
In addition to the breathtaking views from vantage points such as the Anglican Cathedral and Point Pleasant, there is also a “birdcage” that is a must-see. It is located near Queen Street and is where constables in Bermuda shorts regulate traffic. All of this colorful and somewhat bustling town’s history has contributed to making it what it is today.
Hamilton was established in 1790, but it wasn’t until 1815 that it became the capital of Bermuda. The colonists chose Hamilton as the capital because of its central location on the island, which they considered allowed for expansion.
Henry Hamilton, a British Lieutenant Ruler and the island’s governor (1788 – 1794), was honored with the naming of the port city because his family could be traced back to Mary, Queen of Scots.
Perhaps this helps to explain why strong allegiance to England encompasses so much more than simply a love of fish and chips and cricket matches.
Other Noteworthy Aspects of Hamilton
The proximity to the beaches is ideal, especially considering the popularity of golfing here. You will be tempted to purchase magnificent porcelain and cashmere till the cows come home, and the nightlife is not terrible either. However, keep in mind that we compare it to the rest of Bermuda, not Las Vegas or Miami.
Despite this, Hamilton’s Front Street transforms into the epicenter of the island’s party scene every Wednesday evening at six o’clock, when the majority of the cruise ships that visit Bermuda are docked at one of the island’s ports. The street is closed to traffic, and the sidewalks are lined with food concession stands, live music, and plenty of opportunities to dance. You may dance till three in the morning at After Hours, The Deep, or Splash.
Why Should You Travel to Hamilton?
The location’s ease of access to beaches, shopping, restaurants, and historical sites makes spending time here a breeze. Moreover, due to Bermuda’s historical links to the United Kingdom, the island features an abundance of golf courses, clubby restaurants, and places to have afternoon tea.
The fact that Large ships can’t dock in Hamilton may constitute a disadvantage. However, alternatively, you can take a ferry from King’s Wharf for a fee.
Hamilton Cruise Port Facilities
Ships are located just a few short feet away from the shops on Front Street, the Ferry Landing, plenty of restaurants, and more than enough tourist attractions to spend a whole day. So you won’t have to go very far to get whatever you desire.
To know your future, you must first know your history. That’s a great phrase. And before you go on cruise vacations in Hamilton, we recommend reading this article on the history of Hamilton .

Dinner cruise, Hamilton Harbour and Burlington Bay
An absolute treasure in Hamilton, our evening was extremely enjoyable, the food and drink was wonderful and the boat tour was a way to see Hamilton and Burlington from the “other side”. The price was more than right too. We will do this again.
We had the opportunity to go on an evening dinner cruise and are glad that we jumped at the chance when it presented itself. It was unfortunate that there was the possibility of thunderstorms but we decided to go and if it rained so be it. Partway through the cruise we were informed that nasty weather was on the way and as a result the the cruise was adjusted and we docked earlier than anticipated. The views we did see really presented the contradiction that is Hamilton, beautiful scenery around the high level bridge vs. the industrial part of the city. The staff we came in contact with were all pleasant and helpful, the meal was tasty and the boat clean and presentable. There were approx. 150 on board and I would suggest that any more than this number would present a major logistical problem.
We went on the 2 hour harbour cruise and enjoyed it very much . The staff was very friendly. It was nice to be out on the water. We didn't have meal just the tour and snacks. A lovely way to spend an afternoon.
The hour tour was basically 15 minutes getting off the dock, 30 minutes of cruising along the west piers, basically running behind Burlington street and then returning to the dock. Too short to be worthwhile.
What an excellent lunch cruise experience and a great way to have entertained friends from Florida. The staff friendly; courteous and very attentive. The food absolutely great and well served. Just one great way to spend an afternoon on the water enjoying the surrounding sites of the Hamilton Bay area. Our first luncheon cruise and won't be our last. Highly recommend "climbing aboard" the Hamilton Harbour Queen - you won't be disappointed - we weren't and our friends from Florida totally agree too.
Pros: -It delivers on what it promises: a boat ride in Hamilton harbour with OK food; -We did a lunch cruise, and it was a nice way to spend the afternoon; and -The desserts were the best part Cons: -Not very professional: They didn't check our names off a list, many of the staff didn't really have the look of working on a nice cruise and they didn't both with small things like having thongs to take something from the dessert plate; -The boat is old and they haven't kept it up; -The food was just fine but not really reflective of the price you pay: barbecue chicken and rice; -There was almost no one on the boat, so it felt pretty sad; and -I expected to go towards the west side of the harbour they I understand to be the nicest area; instead, the boat spent most of its time in front of the steel plants and seemed to be doing circles around that part; and -There was little explanation of the boat or the scenery, and when the captain did try to speak over the loudspeaker, the sound of the boat motor drowned him out.
Hello. We are sorry to hear about your experience on our lunch cruise. We wish to offer an apology and ask if you could email us at [email protected] for a chance for us to make it up to you. Please let us know if there is anyway we can help you have a better experience in the future on the Hamilton Harbour Queen.

A disorganized dinner cruise
As this was a special occasion for us, the dinner cruise was somewhat disappointing. Although a great venue, it wouldn’t take much to improve a few areas. • Surprisingly, no one asked for our names to be checked off a list or a confirmation number that we actually booked this cruise. Strange! • Kids were allowed to run amok. Perhaps children shouldn’t be on the evening cruises, only the daytime cruises. • You could not tell the food handlers from the guests because they didn’t have uniforms. Bright coloured t-shirts with a logo is a simple and economic way to solve this issue. • Two private parties were booked on this cruise occupying most of the boat. Had we known, we would have postponed to another date. • Amazingly, most adults (and kids) didn’t use the provided tongs to get their bread or dessert cakes. Servers wearing gloves should serve all foods. It’s more hygienic and professional. One food handler put his bare hand in the meatball tray to wolf down a meatball. Yuk! • People who need assistance should be up first to the buffet, then children with one accompanying parent. After that, since the tables are numbered, 2 or 3 tables could be called avoiding the stampede that occurred. • The food presentation was sloppy and disorganized instead of smooth and efficient. The food tasted good, especially the pasta, sauce and the meatballs, but was luke-warm. Considering the cost per person, a glass of wine (or other) should have been included. Instead, a jug of warm water was on the table. • Except for the life jacket/safety announcement, no other announcements were made, not even for the medical emergency that unfortunately happened, leaving people wondering why they couldn’t disembark. • The live music was far too loud. Piped-in, background dinner music would have been appropriate so as to have a conversation and not be drowned out.
Hello, I'm sorry that you had this experience last year on The Hamilton Harbour Queen. Unfortunately at the time of your cruise the owner had suddenly passed away. This year however the Queen is under new management and we have made exciting changes to help our customers experience the best that we have to offer. We wish to invite you back this year to enjoy one of our brand new cruises. Please email us at info@hamiltonharbourqueen so that we can work on getting you a discount for a future cruise. Thank you, The Hamilton Harbour Queen Management
We were on the luncheon cruise today, and while pleased with the food and service, we were very disappointed in the cruise itself. We spent a fair bit of time circling around, actually doing 360' turns. The cruise commentary was a poorly taped voice who tripped over his words, and the actual machine stopped working and they were not able to fix the problem while we were cruising. There is great potential to create a wonderful educational and entertaining trip - manoeuvring closer to the shore and telling us the history and the new development of the area. Hope things improve!
The Hamilton Waterfront Trust has shut down the Hamilton Harbour Queen. The cost of the inspection required every five years is too much to justify for the city. Too bad to see it go but it is no longer new and exciting after all these years.

The Moscow metro now has a full 4G coverage
- On 19 Oct 2018
The Tele2 mobile network company became the first to build an infrastructure for 100% stations of the Moscow's metro. The high-quality 4G internet is now available on all 259 stations of the Moscow's metro, Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and monorail.
The operator has secured a 100% 4G indoor-coverage internet an all stations of the metropolitan metro, including the passageways, pavilions, and stairways. The investments into the project have exceeded 800 million rubles.
The Moscow underground is a specific infrastructure object, which has its own particularities. All works on designing, installation, and adjustment of the hardware should have been conducted exceptionally during night hours when the metro is closed for entry. A sufficient number of stations have a status of cultural heritage, thus, the network development has required additional approvement from the Department of Cultural Heritage of Moscow.
The network coverage within the metro system opens new horizons for the analysis of the "big data". Tele2 Network has analyzed the users' activity during the summer months and has indicated the busiest metro lines, which were: Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya, Zamoskvoretskaya and Kaluga-Riga lines. During the summer months, on the stations of Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya lines the subscribers have downloaded 125 TByte of internet-traffic, have made over 2 million calls with the total duration of 27 thousand hours, which equals to 3 years.

Those who favor large-ship cruises won't be disappointed by a trip to Bermuda. Still, unfortunately, neither the mouth of Hamilton Harbour nor the port facilities in town can accommodate larger ships. This means that cruise ships based in Hamilton, Bermuda's capital city (or even at the lovely St. George's), must now go to King's Wharf.
