2023 LEGENDS TOUR: BIGGER PRIZE FUNDS WITH NEW VENUES IN SCOTLAND AND IRELAND

The Legends Tour will continue to build on its star quality with a global 2023 schedule which features exciting debuts for two stunning links venues, in Scotland and in Ireland, and increased prize funds across the board for many of the game’s most decorated players.

The 2023 season will feature at least 18 tournaments with a record-breaking prize fund – with final numbers set to be released shortly – which will be a significant increase on the 2022 campaign.

Among the exciting developments for 2023 is the news that the spectacular Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen will host the Tour for the first time when the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship is played from August 24-27.

The Scottish venue is joined on the schedule by another breath-taking links newcomer, with Seapoint Golf Links – a rising star in the ranks of Irish links courses and located on the East coast, just an hour north of Dublin – set to host a major international professional event for the first time from June 23-25 when the Irish Legends comes to town.

The JCB Championship will return from August 3-5 after a glorious debut in 2022, when a host of superstars including Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Darren Clarke and Paul Lawrie descended upon the spectacular Uttoxeter venue, with Germany’s Alex Cejka finishing two shots clear of Ireland’s Paul McGinley to lift the title.

Among the other returning highlights on the new-look schedule are July’s Swiss Seniors Open at Golf Club Bad Ragaz, the WINSTONgolf Senior Open in Germany in September, the Italian Senior Open in October and November’s Farmfoods European Senior Masters in Spain.

A new English event, the Legends Players Championship, will be held for the first time in 2023, joining the JCB Championship and the Jersey Legends in a triumvirate of confirmed England-based tournaments.

Major glory may be on the cards for the biggest stars of the Legends Tour, with the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex visiting Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in 2023, while the KitchenAid US PGA Senior Championship will be played at PGA Frisco, Texas and the US Senior Open will take place at Wisconsin’s SentryWorld Golf Course.

The Tour will once again close with the MCB Tour Championship Mauritius, which has provided a fitting finale to the popular competition for more than a decade. At the 2022 edition of the event, staged in December, South African James Kingston lifted the John Jacobs Trophy as the Order of Merit leader despite an impressive display by tournament winner Thomas Bjørn.

Many golfers hoping to make their mark on the Legends Tour in 2023 will have to first prove themselves at the Tour’s Qualifying School this month, which returns for the first time in three years. The venue for the high-stakes event will be Gloria Golf Resort in Belek, Turkey, where players will battle it out to earn one of five spots on the Tour.

A prestigious competition featuring some of golf’s finest players aged 50 and over, the reimagined Legends Tour became a fan favourite and promises to be better than ever in 2023.

Legends Tour hits new landmark with biggest schedule and record €18million prizepool

The Legends Tour has unveiled plans for a record-breaking 2024 season, headlined by its busiest schedule to date – including nine new events - and an eye-watering €18million prize pool.

Running from April to December, this year’s globetrotting schedule will feature 20 events - featuring new tournaments set to debut in Barbados, Kenya, Mexico, Spain, the UK and Zambia, with even more additions still to be announced.

They join Legends Tour staples such as the flagship Staysure PGA Seniors Championship - which will return to Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen following the success of last year’s event – and the Irish Legends at Seapoint Golf Links.

Many of the Legends Tour’s brightest stars will be eyeing up Major victory in 2024 at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores Golf Club, the US Senior Open at Newport Country Club and The Senior Open presented by Rolex at Carnoustie Golf Links.

The season will culminate with the MCB Tour Championship Mauritius at Constance Belle Mare Plage, where qualifying players will contest for the John Jacobs Trophy, which was won in 2023 by former Ryder Cup player Peter Baker.

As well as the tournament silverware, some of golf’s biggest names will also be competing for the largest prize pool in Legends Tour history. The €18million (more than €8.6million of which will be assigned outside of the Majors of senior men’s golf – the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, the US Senior Open and The Senior Open presented by Rolex) represents a 100 per cent increase since the tour returned to a full schedule in 2022 following the covid pandemic, with $2million to play for in the final two events on the Road to Mauritius and a bonus pool of $100,000 for the top five players in the final standings.

Complementing the drama of the professional events will be the unique Celebrity Pro-Am, which sees stars from the world of sport and entertainment competing to raise money and awareness for their chosen charities. Meanwhile, passionate amateurs can tee off alongside their heroes in the Legends Experience, the tour’s one-of-a-kind pro-am experience.

The announcement suggests the global growth of the Legends Tour - which hit new heights in 2023 - is set to continue. At the end of the season, the brand announced record figures for amateur participation, spectators and social media engagement, with the latter taking total reach across all channels to over 100million people for the first time.

In November, the inaugural Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam - the competition’s first foray into Vietnam - embodied the expansion into new markets, including Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Central America, that has characterised the Legends Tour’s first three years.

This Custom Mazda MX-5 Wins the 2023 Hot Wheels Legends Tour

The next Legend to get the Hot Wheels treatment is a ‘Chimera’ Miata.

• This reimagined MX-5 takes inspiration from Japanese Kaido racers and Cyberpunk aesthetics.
• This 2023 winner will be immortalized in 1/64th-scale diecast as an award for taking the Legends tour.

Rejoice Hot Wheels fans ! The 2023 Hot Wheels Legends Tour is officially over, and the winner has been crowned. Taking home the top honors this year is Chris Watson and his 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata. Hailing from New Zealand, this wild Miata will make its way around the world as a 1/64th-scale die cast.

Dubbed “Chimera,” this ’90 MX-5 sports massive fender flares that cover a set of 15 x 13 turbofan-style wheels wrapped with Hoosier rubber. Alongside the massive fender flares, the body also has a shark-fin spoiler fixed to the hard top, a wild rear light bar, and a dystopian-inspired custom airbrushed finish.

The Cyberpunk inspiration also makes its way to the interior, with a computer sitting ahead of the passenger seat. While this computer doesn’t seem exactly functional, the screen features an homage to the famous warning screen from The Fast and the Furious . This might not be a huge feature for this Miata, but it is a fun nod to car culture as a whole. There’s also aftermarket instrumentation and a smoked-acrylic switch panel.

“Every year the competition gets better, and 2023 definitely didn’t disappoint,” said Ted Wu, vice president and global head of design for vehicles at Mattel. “Chris’ journey from rural New Zealand to securing a spot in the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends is truly inspirational and embodies what this tour is all about. Chimera is a great addition to the Garage of Legends, and we can’t wait to create the die-cast version.”

Masters 2024 prize money: From Scottie Scheffler to Tiger Woods, what they earned

Scottie Scheffler won the Masters Tournament for the second time on Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club.

In doing so, he not only reclaimed the green jacket, he earned another $3.6 million. That puts him over $15 million in official earnings this season.

Scheffler continues his march up the PGA Tour career earnings list, moving to 10th all-time with $57.6 million. Tiger Woods, who made $39,600 after finishing last among those who made the cut, is first with $120,994,366.

2024 Masters prize money, purse: Payouts, winnings for Scottie Scheffler, each golfer from $20 million pool

More than history and a green jacket were on the line at augusta national on sunday.

Plenty of green was up for grabs at the 2024 Masters on Sunday -- not only in the form of the famed jacket awarded to the winner of this year's tournament but also in regards to the prize money being paid out from a record-setting pool. Augusta National Golf Club announced that the 2024 Masters would have a total purse of $20 million, marking a new tournament high by $2 million and the largest payout awarded to players at one of the nation's most pristine venues.

Scottie Scheffler was the greatest beneficiary of that increased purse, capturing the $3.6 million winner's share by capturing his second Masters championship in three years . Finishing 11 under with a 4-under 68 capping a tremendous tournament, Scheffler became the fourth-youngest golfer to win two green jackets and the 10th to win two in a three-year span. The $3.6 million prize is $360,000 more than 2023 champion Jon Rahm earned a year ago.

Runner-up Ludvig Åberg achieved quite a payday in his first career major championship. Pressing Scheffler down the stretch, the young Swede scored $2.16 million for second place, a larger sum than either Danny Willett (2016) or Jordan Spieth (2015) earned for winning the green jacket.

Scheffler and Åberg were not the only players set to receive significant green by week's end. In fact, the top three were set to receive seven-figure paydays, except Collin Morikawa struggled down the stretch and entered into a three-way tie with Max Homa and Tommy Fleetwood. Morikawa lost $320,000 by bogeying the last, though he increased the take-home of Homa and Fleetwood with the trio each taking home $1.04 million. This marked the first time that the Masters had five players bring home $1 million or more.

Those among the top 11 were set to see at least $500,000 deposited into their bank accounts, and the handsome payouts trickled down the leaderboard with every golfer inside the top 36 leaving Augusta National with six figures.

Madrid 2024: Dates, draws, prize money and everything you need to know

The year's first WTA 1000 clay-court event is about to get underway next week, with the Hologic WTA Tour heading to the Spanish capital for the Mutua Madrid Open.

Nineteen of the world's Top 20 players are expected to participate in the outdoor red-clay event, which is celebrating its 15th edition as a WTA 1000 tournament.

Here's what you need to know about Madrid:

When does the tournament start?

Main-draw play begins on Tuesday, April 23, and the event continues through Sunday, May 5th at the iconic Caja Magica. The qualifying rounds will take place on Monday, April 22 and Tuesday, April 23.

The singles main draw contains 96 players. There will be 32 seeded players, and all seeds will receive first-round byes. Seventy-six players in total receive direct entry into the main draw, and there will be eight wild cards and 12 qualifiers.

The doubles main draw will have 32 teams, including three wild-card pairings.

Madrid is on Central European Summer Time (GMT+2).

The Dunlop Fort Clay Court ball will be used at the Mutua Madrid Open.

When are the finals.

The singles final will take place Saturday, May 4, not before 6:30 p.m. The doubles final will occur on Sunday, May 5 at 3:30 p.m.

When are the draws?

The singles draw will take place on-site on Sunday, April 21 at 6 p.m. The doubles main draw will be released on Tuesday, April 23.

Who are the defending champions?

Aryna Sabalenka won her second Mutua Madrid Open singles title in three years by defeating World No.1 Iga Swiatek 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in last year's final. Sabalenka also beat the reigning World No.1 in the 2021 Madrid final, when she toppled Ashleigh Barty.

In last year's doubles final, Victoria Azarenka and Beatriz Haddad Maia bested Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula 6-1, 6-4 to capture the title. Azarenka had previously won the Madrid doubles title back in 2011 alongside Maria Kirilenko.

Who is playing?

The cut-off for singles direct entry was based on the Hologic WTA Tour rankings of March 25. No.72 Taylor Townsend was the last direct entry at that time.

The first two main-draw wild cards have been awarded to former World No.1 players and Grand Slam champions Caroline Wozniacki and Simona Halep. Wozniacki was a finalist at the inaugural edition in 2009 (l. to Dinara Safina), and Halep won this title twice consecutively in 2016 and 2017.
