Lisa Gerrard Performing on ‘The World of Hans Zimmer: A Symphonic Celebration Tour’

Air-edel’s vocalist and composer lisa gerrard is set to perform throughout ‘the world of hans zimmer: a symphonic celebration’ tour..

Lisa and Hans Zimmer co-composed the original score for Ridley Scott’s multi-Academy Award-winning feature ‘Gladiator’, for which the composers received a Golden Globe Award and Oscar nomination. The tour will present the composer’s works arranged for a live symphony orchestra for the very first time. Zimmer spent months working on transforming his soundtracks into opulent concert suites, highlights include ‘The Lion King’, ‘Gladiator’, ‘Pirates of the Carribean’ and many others.

The tour began in Krakow on Sunday 17th March. They will soon arrive in the UK for a series of performances in concert arenas including Manchester, Wembley, and Glasgow, before heading across Europe over the course of 2019.

The World of Hans Zimmer – A New Dimension – Tour 2024 [STARTING IN MARCH]

The touring sensation ‘ The World of Hans Zimmer ’ will come back in just over two weeks, completely renewed, with a brand-new show entitled ‘ A New Dimension ’, offering nearly 60 concerts and visiting almost 20 countries in Europe this year.

The tour will start on Friday, March 8, 2024, in Prague, Czech Republic, and then will continue in Germany for the next six concerts. In April 2024, the show will visit the cities of Barcelona (24/4) and Madrid (29/4) in Spain.

The concert in Madrid is SOLD OUT, but there are still a few tickets available for the concert in Barcelona.

The show will feature Gavin Greenaway (conductor), Lisa Gerrard (vocalist), Lebo M (vocalist), Nokukhanya Dlamini (vocalist), Gan-ya Ben-gur Akselrod (vocalist-soprano), Juan Garcia-Herreros (bass guitar), Pedro Eustache (multi woodwinds soloist), Rusanda Panfili (solo violin), Eliane Correa (keyboard), Alexios Anest (guitarist), Lucy Landymore (drums/percussion), Luis Ribeiro (multi-percussion), Mariko Muranaka (cellist), Aleksandra Šuklar (mallets/multi-percussion).

Hans Zimmer himself will not appear live on stage, but will function as the show’s curator and musical director.

Award winning film composer Hans Zimmer will bring his smash-hit tour Hans Zimmer Live to North America this Fall with arena dates across the United States and Canada, including a birthday show at the iconic Madison Square Garden. Following a sold-out European run, the tour marks the North American return of the “Hollywood Rebel” (according to the BBC) who rocked Coachella in 2017 with his outstanding live band and orchestra. Audiences will be swept away from the sound of the first note and journey through an array of well-loved scores throughout Zimmer’s career. In a groundbreaking audio and visual show, the multiple Academy Award® and Grammy winning Zimmer, his band and the orchestra will perform a selection of the composer’s scores from some of cinema’s biggest films. A symphonic celebration.

The “The World of Hans Zimmer – A Symphonic Celebration” concert tour is back on its triumphal procession across the world. The groundbreaking tour, which stars longtime friends and colleagues of Hans Zimmer – the rock star among film music composers –  continues to be in high demand. There are more concert dates in 2023.

Hans Zimmer is curator and musical director of the show, but he is not performing live on stage during „The World of Hans Zimmer – A Symphonic Celebration“. Zimmer invited several renowned soloists from his talent factory and circle of friends to take part on tour.

Under the direction of Gavin Greenaway, Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack conductor – whom, he says, he trusts more than he trusts himself – the large symphony orchestra and all soloists will deliver an intense and unforgettable concert experience.

“The World of Hans Zimmer – A Symphonic Celebration” is a unique opportunity to introduce orchestral music to a new generation, to preserve the orchestral culture and present it in a less elite world. The audience will have the chance to delve into the thrilling “World of Hans Zimmer” with all its multilayered facets.

The official album by Sony Classical is available now. The recording took place at the famous traditional concert hall Wiener Konzerthaus featuring renowned ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and choir Neue Wiener Stimmen conducted by Martin Gellner in the course of the “Hollywood in Vienna” festival.

Q&A with Hans Zimmer about Xperiments

“ Some movies become a playing field for experimentation, encouraging the laboratory doors to never quite close. We ended up with nearly 16 hours worth of music and it just seemed a shame not to let some random tracks and demos see the light of day, ” wrote Hans Zimmer on the release of Xperiments, a new soundtrack album featuring previously unreleased suites and themes written for the X-Men movie Dark Phoenix.

We spoke with the composer about the most striking film album of the summer.

The Dark Phoenix storyline was controversial when it came out in Marvel Comics in the 1980s, because some thought a hero could not become that dark. How much research do you do into a comic book storyline before composing? Or do you watch only the current film version of the story? HZ: I knew the comic book, the story. And long conversations with Simon, our writer/director.

Do you read comics? If so, which character do you most relate to? HZ: Frank Miller’s “Dark Knight” is pretty relatable, but any art done by Barry Windsor-Smith or Bernie Wrightson got me through my teenage years. ‘Moebius’ – Jean Giraud became a favourite, and then Art Spiegelman elevated it all…

If you could have a superpower, what would it be? HZ: Deliver a piece of music on time!

Marvel has rarely attempted to create characters with “musical” super-powers, (Dazzler being the most well-known) mostly I imagine because comics have no soundtracks. Do you think a comic could come with a soundtrack? HZ: Absolutely!

How did this album come about? Did fans demand it? It was really because we truly had so many experiments left. The film had changed so much, but our core ideas had not… so it seemed like a fun idea to unleash those little bits of anarchy. Plus, so loved and really wanted to show off the amazing work of people like Loire Cotler, Suzanne Waters (she sang once 11 hours straight…). Guthrie Govan, Tina Guo, Andy Page and Nico Abondolo absolutely shine.

How was the process with your collaborators? Let everyone invent, add ideas to each other’s work – be a band.

What can fans look forward to on this special release? HZ: It’s basically a diary of ideas and seeing how they developed over time.

Kenyan choral group joins world of hans zimmer europe tour.

The Nairobi Chamber Chorus is part of a group of acclaimed international artists currently engaged in a European concert series showcasing the works of German film-score composer and music producer Hans Zimmer.

Described as the ‘Hollywood Rebel’, Zimmer’s melodies and compositions have featured in international blockbusters including Dune, James Bond – No Time to Die, The Lion King, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight trilogy , Interstellar, The Last Samurai and Top Gun: Maverick , among many others. He has won two Oscars and four Grammys and was named on the list of the Top 100 Living Geniuses, published by The Daily Telegraph in 2007.

Titled The World of Hans Zimmer – A New Dimension, the concert series began in Prague, Czech Republic, on 8 March and will travel to 56 European cities before concluding in Lisbon, Portugal, on 9 December. It seeks to immerse audiences in Zimmer’s works. The Nairobi Chamber Chorus is expected to perform in 13 cities. 

Speaking to Kenyan journalist Bill Odidi about being on the tour, Nairobi Chamber Chorus director Ken Wakia said the ensemble was “extremely lucky and honoured to be a part of it.”

Wakia said the group was invited to perform after a tour organiser heard about the group through an invitation to perform at a music festival in Germany.

“We accepted and we sent an audition piece,” Wakia said. “After a couple of weeks, they got back to us saying the artistic committee was pleased with the group, and here we are now travelling across Europe in sold-out arenas of between 10 000 and 15 000 seats every show. Honestly, it still feels like a dream.”

Wakia added: “I think the addition of our African dance movements during performance has been a wonderful addition to the show, without which it would have felt like there was just that one little thing still missing. My aspiration with this new show is to preserve the culture of the orchestra and allow audiences to rediscover the unique facets of orchestral music.”

Artists on the tour include conductor and long-time Zimmer collaborator Gavin Greenaway (UK), singer and composer Lisa Gerrard (Australia), producer and composer Lebohang ‘Lebo M’ Morake (South Africa), best known for arranging and performing music for The Lion King movies and stage productions, and vocalist Nokukhanya Dlamini (South Africa).

Wakia said: “Google those names and tell [me] whether you won’t get goosebumps if you were sharing the stage with them. We are performing with soloists from around the world, but when we are onstage, we are one family.

Zimmer himself will not appear live during the tour, as he has done in previous productions of his music, but will function as the show’s curator and musical director.

“My aspiration with this new show is to preserve the culture of the orchestra and allow audiences to rediscover the unique facets of orchestral music,” Zimmer said. “There are many background stories I would love to tell and long-time companions and friends I would like to introduce.”

The concert tour’s precursor, The World of Hans Zimmer – A Symphonic Celebration, was first staged in Germany in 2018.

Following on from the release of her collaborative album ‘Burn’ last year, alongside Dead Can Dance’s Jules Maxwell and James Chapman from MAPS, Lisa Gerrard has now joined forces with producer and composer Marcello De Francisci for the stunning new LP ‘Exaudia’.

Working alongside a team of other musicians including Bahar Shah, Astrid Williamson, Daniela Arbizzi, and Farhad Behroozi, ‘Exaudia’ looks to combine the broad and euphoric textures of De Francisci’s production with the warm and haunting vocals of Gerrard. Described as “a feminine embodiment of poetic expression”, the record plays majestically with this narrative, inviting a rich and vivid texture within each offering.

Explaining how the collaboration came about, Lisa said, “I met Marcello while I was composing for a film called Kings, he had wonderful engineering skills and I liked him as a person. After a while we decided to try composing together and went on to compose some film scores.

“This work was borne out of a desire to write something together during Covid, there is also the artistic desire to embrace the opportunity to unlock our unfulfilled visions. The album is very physical in its construction and sensibility, it is a deeply sensual work that enjoys a sense of empowered subtlety.”

Adding about the inspiration behind the record, Marcello De Francisci said, “ For quite some time I had been playing around with the idea of composing a brand new track to Lisa Gerrard’s vocals on “Diary for the Fallen”. I wanted a darker and more brooding version, which could be attributed to Hans Zimmer’s “Time” from the “Inception” soundtrack without plagiarising his work. I wondered what it would have sounded like if Lisa Gerrard had sung on something of this nature, in addition pushing the envelope even further by writing an aria towards the end of this piece including orchestra, choirs and percussion, which would result in one grand finale. It had to be something completely our own”.

On 7th May 2021, Lisa Gerrard and Jules Maxwell release their album ‘Burn’, with Atlantic Curve, a London-based label created under the Schubert Music Europe umbrella. This collective effort was produced by James Chapman of Maps.

Ambient electronica, folk music from around the world with a special emphasis on Middle Eastern sound, gothic operatics and joyously overwhelming orchestral moments are morphed and woven into each other to create the richly textured fabric of this album. A deep and almost spiritual aesthetic guides this album as they start to work notions of trance music into these tunes. 

The duo use a multitude of cultural references as a starting point but seemingly synthesise these influences into something that sounds strangely new and somewhat alien. Burn creates a reflective space into which listeners can immerse themselves and mediate on the dreamiest of sounds.

Moscow Metro 2019

Will it be easy to find my way in the Moscow Metro? It is a question many visitors ask themselves before hitting the streets of the Russian capital. As metro is the main means of transport in Moscow – fast, reliable and safe – having some skills in using it will help make your visit more successful and smooth. On top of this, it is the most beautiful metro in the world !

. There are over 220 stations and 15 lines in the Moscow Metro. It is open from 6 am to 1 am. Trains come very frequently: during the rush hour you won't wait for more than 90 seconds! Distances between stations are quite long – 1,5 to 2 or even 3 kilometers. Metro runs inside the city borders only. To get to the airport you will need to take an onground train - Aeroexpress.

RATES AND TICKETS

Paper ticket A fee is fixed and does not depend on how far you go. There are tickets for a number of trips: 1, 2 or 60 trips; or for a number of days: 1, 3 days or a month. Your trips are recorded on a paper ticket. Ifyou buy a ticket for several trips you can share it with your traveling partner passing it from one to the other at the turnstile.

On every station there is cashier and machines (you can switch it to English). Cards and cash are accepted. 1 trip - 55 RUB 2 trips - 110 RUB

Tickets for 60 trips and day passes are available only at the cashier's.

1 day - 230 RUB 3 days - 438 RUB 30 days - 2170 RUB.

The cheapest way to travel is buying Troyka card . It is a plastic card you can top up for any amount at the machine or at the ticket office. With it every trip costs 38 RUB in the metro and 21 RUB in a bus. You can get the card in any ticket office. Be prepared to leave a deposit of 50 RUB. You can get it back returning the card to the cashier.

SamsungPay, ApplePay and PayPass cards.

One turnstile at every station accept PayPass and payments with phones. It has a sticker with the logos and located next to the security's cabin.

GETTING ORIENTED

At the platfrom you will see one of these signs.

It indicates the line you are at now (line 6), shows the direction train run and the final stations. Numbers below there are of those lines you can change from this line.

In trains, stations are announced in Russian and English. In newer trains there are also visual indication of there you are on the line.

To change lines look for these signs. This one shows the way to line 2.

There are also signs on the platfrom. They will help you to havigate yourself. (To the lines 3 and 5 in this case).
