Jo frost: ex 'supernanny' reports dad for child beating, jo frost ex 'supernanny' reports dad for child beating.

Jo Frost 's reality TV crew recorded footage of a father disciplining his child with a belt, and she felt the incident was so severe she reported it to child services ... TMZ has learned.

While recording an episode of her new show " Jo Frost: Nanny On Tour " ... Frost visited a family last October in Gwinnett County, GA. Sources connected to production tell us the Spivey family contacted the show because their 3 kids don't respect mom's word around the house ... only dad's.

After Jo's visit the show left surveillance cameras -- with the Spiveys' approval -- which captured a scene where the father sends his 9-year-old son up to his bedroom, takes off his belt and then goes into the bedroom. The boy was in trouble for using dad's charger.

The episode, which aired Thursday night on the UP channel, doesn't show any beating, but you can hear the boy wailing from behind the closed door.

As part of her follow-up with families ... Frost reviews the footage and we're told when she saw what happened between Chris Spivey and his son, she immediately reported it to DCFS.

We spoke to the Spiveys, who confirmed DCFS investigated. Mr. Spivey admits using corporal punishment in the past -- which is legal in Georgia as long as the child isn't injured -- but he denies hitting his son in the video. He claims he only "hit his bed," and claims the boy was crying because "he was frightened."

The Spiveys say DCFS ultimately found no wrongdoing. We've contacted the agency, but haven't heard back. Our show sources say Jo thought it was important for the episode to air because she's staunchly anti-corporal punishment, and wanted to start a conversation.

The series uses a similar theme that was used in Supernanny: Jo Frost will travel to a new city each week and work with one family that desperately needs her expertise. Prior to her arrival, Frost will monitor the family’s behavior from her mobile RV office via surveillance cameras (the family will consent to have them placed throughout their home). Once she sees their weaknesses and errors, Frost will help the families come up with tools and techniques to improve their parenting skills, maintain their discipline and relationship with their children, and keep in touch through progress reports. In addition, Frost will also travel to communities where she seeks out help from people looking for advice from family issues to becoming better parents.

Spivey Family Controversy and Racism Allegations [ ]

In episode 4, "Tech Overload", Jo visited the Spivey Family, an African-American Family in Georgia. Things were going fine up until she was away. CCTV cameras caught the father, Chris, supposedly hitting his son Marcus (9) with his belt after the latter had taken his phone charger. Marcus was also autistic. Whilst he did admit to using corporal punishment in the past, Chris denied that he did hit Marcus, and claimed that his crying came from being scared, rather than being hit. It remains unknown if Chris did in fact hit Marcus however, as Chris had shut the door to Marcus' room when confronting him, meaning the audio heard was all people had to go from.

After hearing what happened, Jo was understandably shocked at what she had heard, and contacted the DCFS (Department of Children and Family Services). Entertainment Tonight, who covered the story, also contacted them in hopes of being updated about the situation (they never were). Tech Overload also ended with a special message by Jo, speaking about the dangers of corporal punishment, and how it should not be used by parents.

The controversy following this episode was massive. A majority of people sided with Jo, whereas they were understandably against Chris for his alleged actions, and chastised him for not only using corporal punishment, but for doing so on an autistic child. The backlash against Chris ended up getting so severe, that many had begun to send death threats on Facebook towards him and his family. These led to Chris considering on taking legal action against Jo (and possibly UpTV) because of the immense hate he had been receiving; some went as far as to say that he should have been the one receiving the belt. While there was a massive outcry for Chris to be charged, he never was as corporal punishment is legal in Georgia. He also did not take legal action on Jo.

The controversy soon died down, and it was soon forgotten about. Until the 2020's. Likely in-par due to the Black Lives Matter movement, people had begun to claim Jo as a "racist." Many were upset with her choosing to instead inform authorities about an abusive black family, and not informing them about white families that were abusive (several people listing Phil from The Davis Family (Season 5) and Jennifer from The Bowersock Family as examples). As such, these people were under the assumption that Jo was racist. Notably, in January 2022, a reddit user under the name "SerpentineSlut" would post about their frustrations of the incident on the "r/Supernanny" forum, and went as far as to say that the Spivies were the “only black family Jo had helped”. Several users took criticism to the claims, and Serpentine's post. Whilst they did understand where they were coming from with their claims, it was noted that Jo herself has officially stated, she only contacts authorities when she sees something off about a family. On Serpentine's post, many pointed out the numerous black families Jo had helped throughout the Supernanny franchise, as well as families of other races. Some however did side with those against Jo, and agreed with them.

The claims themselves, as well as Serpentine's post did not gain much traction, and as such did not materialise into massive controversy.

Supernanny Jo Frost reported a father after believing he'd used a belt to discipline his son.

The television personality - known as Supernanny - made the complaint after filming scenes for her new show Jo Frost: Nanny On Tour.

In the episode which aired last night, Jo was called to help out with the Spivey family from Gwinnett County, Georgia.

However she was left with no option but to get the authorities involved after CCTV caught dad Chris Spivey removing his belt after a dispute with son Marcus.

The dramatic scenes saw Marcus - aged just nine - being sent to his room after using his father's phone charger without permission.

Moments later dad Chris can be seen removing his belt and following the youngster up the stairs.

Although any physical discipline wasn't shown, the sounds of Marcus crying out were broadcast during the episode on the UP channel on Thursday.

After the incident, which took place in October, Jo reported the dad to the Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS).

Mr Spivey told TMZ that while he had been investigated by the DCFS, they'd found no wrongdoing on his behalf.

He also denied using the belt as a weapon, claiming that he merely whipped it on to the nearby bed rather than his son.

However Mr Spivey did admit to having used corporal punishment in the past - an act which is legal in the state of Georgia.

The episode has stirred a lively debate over what's acceptable when it comes to disciplining children, with Jo being very outspoken on her stance.

Since it aired, Jo has hit out at using physical force as a means to discipline children and even posted a video to her followers on Twitter.

On it, she says: "I truly hope this makes millions of families question their practice of discipline and the immediate effect and the long-term effect it is going to have on the relationships with their family members."

A Georgia father who appeared to threaten his son with a belt on an episode of Supernanny Jo Frost’s new TV show is speaking out against the backlash.

Chris Spivey, of Gwinnett County, told INSIDE EDITION the footage does not tell the full story and claimed UPtv's "Jo Frost: Nanny on Tour" edited the episode in a way that would boost ratings.

“You can’t always believe what you see on television,” Spivey told IE.

In a statement to INSIDE EDITION, UPtv said: "The video shown in this episode is powerful and may cause viewers to be uncomfortable. But it happened; the footage is authentic."

Surveillance cameras installed in the Spivey family home last October appeared to capture a tense exchange between Spivey and his nine-year-old son, Marcus, who has a severe learning disability.

“Marcus, come here,” Spivey says to his son, who walks to where his father is sitting in the family’s living room.

“Yes? Yeah, daddy?” the boy responds.

But Spivey shoots back: “I said come here.”

The irritated father continues to insist his son stand in a particular spot, until his wife, Meshane Spivey, who is lying on another couch, interjects.

“Move up and stand there.... Move all the way up. And hurry up, please," she said. “Ok, I can’t protect you if you don’t do what you’re supposed to do. Move up."

After Spivey accuses Marcus of taking his cell phone charger without permission, he orders his son to go to his room, saying: “Alright, well… let’s do it. Go upstairs to your room.”

As the little boy slowly makes his way upstairs, Spivey can be seen standing up and removing his leather belt before he follows his son, who cries out as he heads into the bedroom.

“Stand up. Stand on your feet. Do you understand? Do you understand? Do you understand me?” Spivey can be heard saying as the sound of a belt hitting something can also be heard.

“Yes! Yes!” Marcus says and can be heard wailing in the room.

Footage appeared to show Meshane Spivey – who during an interview for the show said she worried her three children were “spending too much time in front of screens”— staring at a cell phone downstairs during the entirety of the incident.

The footage does not show any beating and Spivey claimed that he did not hit strike Marcus with the belt and only hit the bed.

“Those types of shows are very well edited by producers to drive controversy,” Spivey told IE.

Frost confronted the parents about the findings, saying she does not believe in corporal punishment and warned them that she planned to alert the authorities to the incident.

“What I found on the surveillance camera was pretty alarming for me,” Frost said in a Skype call with the parents seen on the episode.

Spivey admitted using corporal punishment in the past to discipline his children , which Georgia law permits as long as the child is not harmed.

“We have whooped our kids, yeah,” Spivey said, claiming to not remember what led to that day’s incident.

His wife added: “That situation, he had taken something that belonged to his dad and he lied about it over and over again."

“I think he’s too scared to tell the truth,” Frost replied.

Ultimately Spivey said he and Frost would have to “agree to disagree” on the issue and disconnected the call.

“ I do not believe in corporal punishment . If you’re going to use pain as a practice to instill better behavior then you’re going to raise your children to fear you," Frost said. "It creates emotional and mental health problems my job is to teach positive parenting and techniques that bring peace and harmony and confidence and connection."

Spivey told reporters that the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) investigated the incident but found no evidence of wrongdoing.

A spokeswoman for DCFS told IE that by law they could neither confirm nor deny any investigation into the matter took place.

Spivey told IE that he believed the episode helped drive ratings for the show, which he said “had received no publicity up until that point.”

“You can’t always believe what you see on television, ” he repeated.

The Spivey family was reportedly  featured on the show because parents Meshane and Chris wanted advice on getting the children to listen to their mother.

Meshane Spivey said: “They act like they’ve lost their minds.”

Jo Frost Alerts Child Protective Services After a Video Leads Her to Believe a Child Was Spanked

Jo Frost spoke to ET on Friday after Jo Frost: Nanny on Tour cameras captured footage of what sounded to her like a child being spanked with a belt.

The footage aired Thursday night on the UPtv reality show. While the incident takes place behind closed doors, there is audio of what appears to be 9-year-old Marcus Spivey sobbing after walking into a bedroom with his father, Chris, who seemed to be holding a belt.

"I was very concerned with the surveillance footage I had seen," Frost told ET over Skype.

Frost alerted the Division of Family and Children Services in Georgia, but Chris maintains he never hit Marcus while they were in the bedroom. Chris claims that Marcus was only crying because he was scared.

"I personally don't believe that, but I'm not here to question that," Frost said.

When ET reached out to D.F.C.S., they said state law prohibits them from either confirming or denying any investigation, but we do know that corporal punishment is legal in the state of Georgia as long as the child is not injured.

Still, Frost does not think that corporal punishment should be used in the home.

"It's not an effective way to discipline a child," she said.

A father has been reported to the authorities by Supernanny Jo Frost after a film crew for her TV show caught him 'disciplining' his son with a belt.

The footage was filmed by surveillance cameras installed as part of the show in the Spivey family's home in Gwinnett County, Georgia last October.

While reviewing the footage, researchers for Frost's new show 'Jo Frost: Nanny On Tour', witnessed the incident between Chris Spivey and his son Marcus which began in the family's living room, with the family now considering legal action against the series after the footage was aired on Thursday night.

But shockingly, Spivey stands up from his couch and removes his leather belt before following his son upstairs.

The youngster can be heard crying in the room but the footage, which was broadcast on the UP channel last night, does not show any beating.

The Spivey family was reportedly on the show because the family's three children do not follow their mother's orders and only listen to their father.

Spivey has now told TMZ that he and his family are considering legal action against the show after receiving death threats on Facebook.

He has told the site the footage is 'bogus' because it was 'grossly edited', while adding that he was not warned the footage would air.

'We are not people that beat their kids. We are leaders in our community and this has put a strain on our family,' Spivey told TMZ.

Jo Frost, pictured,  expressed her concern over Spivey's use of corporal punishment during the show

Spivey also confirmed to TMZ that DCFS (Department of Children and Family Services) had investigated the incident but found no evidence of wrongdoing. He claimed he only 'hit his bed' with the belt and the boy was crying because 'he was frightened'.

During the show, Spivey said he and Frost would have to 'agree to disagree' on the issue of corporal punishment.

He admitted using corporal punishment in the past, which is legal in Georgia, as long as the child is not harmed.

Frost, whose show Supernanny ran in the US for six years, released a short video message on Twitter following the shocking episode.

'I truly hope this makes millions of families question their practice of discipline and the immediate effect and the longterm effect it is going to have on the relationships with their family members,' she said.

Reaction of social media was very critical of Spivey after he removed his belt to discipline his son.

Julie Jacobs Ryan wrote: 'It's pretty obvious that this child is fearful of his father. The scene made my stomach turn. A belt is abuse.

'Plain and simple. And the fact that they couldn't get their asses up off the couch just shows how lazy they are as parents.

'I don't believe, based on the boy's reaction, that this type of discipline is few and far between in this house.'

Others suggested that the belt should be used on Spivey.

TV ‘Supernanny’ features Gwinnett family, reports beating heard on tape

A former 'Supernanny' blew the whistle on a Gwinnett County father, according to TMZ .

Ex-‘Supernanny’ Jo Frost, the star of Atlanta-based UP television show “Jo Frost: Nanny On Tour,” reported a Gwinnett County father to Division of Family and Children Services after video cameras captured him disciplining his son, TMZ reports.

Frost visited the Spivey family in October, after the parents contacted the show about their kids’ behavior. Sources connected to production said the family contacted the show because the three children don’t respect mother, only the father.

After Frost’s visit, video cameras were placed throughout the home so the nanny could analyze family interactions.

Video captured the father repeatedly telling his visibly frightened 9-year-old son to “come here.” Spivey then asks the boy why he had taken his charger, and orders him upstairs to his room.

The video shows the child wailing as he walks up the stairs. The father is seen removing his belt before heading upstairs behind the boy.

Once at the top of the stairs, the boy reluctantly goes into his bedroom, as he is followed by his father. Muffled cries are heard coming from the boy’s bedroom.

Frost later saw the footage, when she followed up with the family, and reported the incident to DFCS.

The family admitted that they were investigated, but said no charges were filed, according to TMZ.

The father denied hitting his son that day. He said he hit his bed and that his son was crying because he was frightened.

Frost, who says she is against corporal punishment, tweeted about the issue when the episode aired on Thursday.
