Operated by Penguin Travel

Established in 1989 in the heart of Copenhagen (Denmark), Penguin Travel rose as a pioneering travel agency offering trips to off-the-beaten-path destinations. The company started out operating cultural and active tours to little-known destinations in Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as epic adventures like the Trans-Siberian Railway. Our current portfolio consists of trips to over 100 countries in five main categories: cultural roundtrips, mountaineering expeditions, trekking, cycling, and horseriding. Operating from offices in Denmark and Bulgaria, our small team comprises avid travelers committed to discovering and appreciating the diverse cultures and landscapes we come across. We strive to be an ethical travel company committed to sustainable and responsible tourism practices. We do that by keeping our groups small, prioritizing the employment of local guides, and using local hotels, thus fostering a deep connection between our travelers and the communities they explore. Some of our best-seller tours include multi-country trips in the Balkans, Central Asia, the Caucasus region, Central America, and Africa, as well as active holidays in Bulgaria and Eastern Europe.

Excellent tour. My highlight of the tour is Sarajevo, Mostar, Ohrid and more places. I like the itinerary very chill knowing its a group tour. Not rushing at all. Thank you to Bobby out driver for keeping us safe back in Sofia. And also Thank you to our Tour Leader Georgi very accommodating, helpful and always there when needed. Very much recommended tour. Thank you to Penguin Travel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great Algeria trip!

Algeria is an underrated travel destination. It's not very touristy but it's a must see country if you are a fan of ancient culture as it has a lot of Roman ruins. The ancient cities of Djemila, Tipaza and Timgad are amazing and I would say it rivals other well known places in Europe. Although we were only 2 tourists, the tour was well organised and our local guide was amazing. The only downside was that the trip was organised during Ramadan and most of the places are closed during the day. Nevertheless, it was a good trip and I would recommend others to visit as well.

Amazing Algeria Trip!

Everything was well organized from the very start. Knowledgeable staff/tour operator in Algeria. Trip/rates approved even though only very small group (we were only 2). Amazing company so far, will definitely book future group tours with Penguin! Thanks so much.

Irak, cradle of civilizations

A very interesting itinerary that takes in some fantastic archaeological sites. Well organised, friendly atmosphere, adherence to timetables and discovery of the sites of interest. Not much in the way of cultural explanations, so it's best to have read up on the Sumerians and Babylonians before the trip.

Great trip thru the Guyana's

Great trip thru the Guyana's. No way I could have done it on my own. Thank you for everything penguin. Great price and Andre was the perfect guide.

My first Penguin tour to Federal Iraq…

My first Penguin tour to Federal Iraq and I am on it. The registration process is patchy at best. The response time is delayed and I wasn’t informed that a letter to get the visa on arrival will cost 170 euros. (This is not the visa). I booked the tour 8 months in advance and I was told of this cost 1 month before departure - I couldn’t back out even if they allowed as I’ve booked flights then. The vehicle they use is borderline extremely uncomfortable. It was a 4x4 they added seats at the baggage area and squeezed 4tourists + guide + driver into this vehicle. It was very painful in the back during our first day at the city. I couldn’t imagine how this is for our long drives. It’s just day 2 and it is horrible. I’ve been with other tours such as Lupine and vehicle wasnt this cramped. We have these vehicles back home and we wouldn’t add that extra layer of chairs even for our helpers to sit! I couldn’t take photos at the back because the window was so small. It even has a sticker to block the already small window. . And the vehicle was so dirty! So all photos are brown and muddy. Trash inside the car . And dirt all over. When I pointed this out to the guide I was told that tomorrow is rainy so no need to wash car. But inside gotta clean? Also the day we arrived was sunny and it was like this vehicle wasn’t washed for a Week! This trip has been dreadful so far.

Most enjoyable tour of Saudi and Bahrain

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Considering this was a budget tour, the hotels, clean, comfortable rooms and bathrooms with good breakfasts. As we were only a group of 4 we travelled by car with a guide/driver. Salman in Riyadh was exceptional. What I appreciated most was the availability of Neis via WhatsApp or email. We had the odd hiccup which could be easily resolved. Great customer service. If opting for the Bahrain extension and traveling across the border by road, its very easy to obtain the visa at the border and you can even pay with Saudi currency – which is widely accepted in Bahrain. Tours in Bahrain are limited or quite costly, but we found it easy to get around to the places we wanted to see with Uber – efficient and reasonable prices. As I didn’t have global roaming I purchased an Esim in both of the countries – also simple and cheap.

I cannot believe that Penguin Travel…

I cannot believe that Penguin Travel are offering holidays to Russia - apart from it NOT being a safe place ( not even for Russians) the very idea after the Russian inversion of Ukraine & the murdering of innocent people destroying property & creating world financial turmoil… inflation/ refugees crisis across Europe / environmental damage - I could go on. Plus in the very week Alexei Navalny was murdered. Unbelievable … I will not travel with Penguin again until you remove this option from your website. Shame on you Penguin Travel.

Itinerary was excellent over 3wks.

Itinerary was excellent over 3wks. Price was good. Home stay, yurt, as well as hotel were generally good except for hotel Seven at beginning(breakfast in refrigerator which we have to microwave.) and last hotel in Turkmanistan. Bathroom was not clean, even has no cup in room or bathroom. Our guide was George which our team loved him for his leadership, consciousness, trouble shooting ability, and manage local guides as well as driver. All we wished to come back to one of stans in future.

Syria A must in your Bucket list

We have just returned from a weeklong tour with Penguin with a Local tour guide Wasim. He was witty knowlegeable entertaining . He kept us interested and excited about each province we visited of his beloved country. I would highly recommend this tour we took along with the ABLE Alert organized tour director Nezzy! Syria now is my most Favorite Visited country in the Middle East!

Saudi Arabia with Penguin was a very…

Saudi Arabia with Penguin was a very good highlights trip. The itinerary was great and it was not a particularly challenging trip in terms of time spent travelling or the planned activities. The transport and hotels were good and although the resort near Al Ulla was not yet finished, the breakfast and location more than made up for this aspect. The itinerary was a good mix of city tours, religious visits and natural aspects. Al Ulla was particularly stunning. I would recommend this trip with Penguin which was good value and well organised.

Tour to Somaliland and Djibouti

Very interesting tour with lots of different things to see. Rock paintings in Somaliland, snorkeling with whale sharks, and visit to the spectacular Lake Abbé in Djibouti were some of the highlights. Can really recommend this tour. Most of it is made with 4-wheel drive vehicles. Accomodation was good and the local food was really appreciated.

It would have been a 5 star experience…

It would have been a 5 star experience except on the Oman part of our trip (from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain & Oman), we thought we had an english speaking tour and instead it was a German language tour and we don't speak German. Our guide Dimitrav Mihaylov in Saudi Arabia & Bahrain was excellent in every way. The other thing in the papers you sent us there was no mention of Tip to the trip director which was Dimitrav Mihaylov and you mentioned the tips to the local guide & driver. So majority of the tourist in the trip presumed he got enough payment from the company and needs no tips. I had a hard time convincing the other tourist we should give a tip to our tour manager. Maybe next time be clear about this that the tip to the Tour Manager was not paid already

Bulgaria i worth a trip!

We had a lovely trip through the beautiful Bulgarian countryside with many beautiful and interesting highlights. Our guide and driver Biliana is a kind and caring person with lots of humor who told about the history and present of Bulgaria. Sofia is a lovely city.

An epic experience!

I did the 5 stans tour just recently and was impressed with how packed the itinerary was. Every day had new surprises and the balance between nature, culture and architecture and history was fabulous. Georgi our tour leadee galvanized the group of 11 and all of us regularly interacted with each other. Of particular note was how Georgi choose to also spend his "down time" with the group going to dinner and casual activities even when not "on the clock". It's a sign of a very engaged and great tour leader. I am already looking forward to my next penguin tour!

The Three Guyanas

We are very happy to have made our first trip with Penguin Travel. The price of the trip was very attractive compared to other similar providers. The value for money was fully met (accommodation, food, transportation). A recommendation to Penguin would be better, more timely communication with trip participants would help everyone. By that we mean that two weeks before arrival we still hadn't received any information about pickup, hotels, etc. We only received this information after contacting you by telephone. The local guide for the city tour in Georgetown/Guyana was outstanding of all the local guides on the trip. We were also very satisfied with the Penguin guide Andrej. He always informed us in detail about everything regarding the trip. We are happy to recommend the Penguin Travel program and we are looking forward for next trip with Penguin.

Just completed the Guyanas tour

Just completed the Guyanas tour. Great experience, all activitties were done as per tour description. Our guide Andrey was amazing. Great people on the trip, extremely well travelled group.

I’m still dreaming that I’m still in Syria

My Syria visit with Penguin Travel was an amazing one . Thanks to our local tour guide Wasim and our tour leader from Penguin travel Nesi. It bought a lot of history that I was just reading before became live infront of me . The Christianity and Muslim prospective became more clear and each point of view is to be respected . The organization / scheduling of this trip is top notch . The choice of hotels esp Beit Alwali is superb. The local people that I have the privilege to be with during this trip made me understand the country better . I will put more stars than 5 if I can . This is a fantastic tour . One of my favorite in the Middle East trip I will definitely recommend this to all the world Travellers out there . I love it so much that I am still dreaming about it until now

Great tour with some horrible “world travelers.”

I thoroughly enjoyed this 14 day trip in the Balkans. I was extremely impressed with our tour guide, Dimitar. This was his first official tour which he lead. He dealt with a few travelers who were really difficult people to please even though they are self proclaimed world travelers. Thank you to Dimitar’s leadership that kept things smooth as to not disappoint other travelers’ experience. I will most definitely plan to travel with Penguin again…hopefully those handful of “world travelers” will NOT be a part of any future trips.

Saudi Arabia disaster

Saudi trip Different trip delivered to what was booked. 17 people on a max 12 trip. Poor communication. Up at 4:30 am to go for airport transfer for day tour - zoomed around then lunch at 2:30. Two full days at Al ula but Penguin did not prebook tickets so no Jabal Ikmah or Dadan for us. Stayed in 4* brothel in Bahrain. Don't go with Penguin.

When you think of Australia, you likely think of some combination of adventure, the outdoors, and wildlife. This first tour is easily one of the best ways to see it all in one place, with professional and knowledgeable staff, and excellent planning throughout the entire time.

If you’re going to be in Melbourne, do yourself a favor and sign up for the Small-Group Phillip Island Afternoon Day Trip from Melbourne Tour ASAP!

This truly “wild” journey involves an intimate group of no more than 12 participants setting off on one of the coolest tours one could possibly take. When dealing with tours that take you far away from the city, timing, planning, and organization are important.

You’ll experience all that and more on this full-day experience perfect for animal lovers or those who’d simply like to see another side of Australia.

Start off by being picked up in the morning by your driver/guide in an air-conditioned minivan with plenty of room to stretch and enjoy the scenic landscapes that unfold as you cruise along.

The guide does a great job of telling interesting stories and facts about the places as you pass by, ensuring there’s never a dull moment on the tour!

Expand To See More See Less

Your first stop of the day will be at the Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park, where you’ll learn all about the importance of animal conservation on the island.

See koalas and wallabies interact in their natural habitat, as your guide tells you all about their behaviors and why organizations like this are so crucial to their well-being. Stop by the Woolamai surf beach and The Nobbies, which features the largest colony of Fur Seals!

Next up is a trip to the Phillip Island Nature Parks for the Penguin Parade to catch these guys being adorable and cruising around.

Check out the visitor centre, where you’ll learn more about Little Penguins, and pay a visit to the souvenir shop and cafe, if you want to grab something for yourself or a loved one.

The guide took us to a nice restaurant afterward where we could reminisce about all the fun we’d just had and enjoy a good meal.

Tour Information & Booking

penguin travel tours

  • Duration: 12 hours
  • Departure:  Pickup from Selected Hotels
  • Departure Time: 10:00 AM
  • Includes:  Pickup from Selected Hotels, Friendly & Informative Tour Guide, Entry fees for Moonlit Sanctuary and Phillip Island Penguin Parade, WiFi on board, All Fees and Taxes, Air-conditioned vehicle

Next up, we have a slightly longer tour for you that’s ideal if it’s your first time in Australia and really want to see some of the best this part of the country has to offer.

The Phillip Island Penguin, Brighton Beach, Moonlit Sanctuary from Melbourne Tour  is a whirlwind of hidden gems and popular tourist sites, surely to bring a smile to your face! If you’re looking for a tour to take you away from the hustle and bustle of lively Melbourne, this is a fantastic choice.

Once again, with this tour you’ll get conveniently picked up right from your hotel lobby and set out in an air-conditioned vehicle to Brighton.  Brighton Beach is filled with fascinating history and charm, complete with colorful Brighton Beach bathing boxes, pristine sands, and shell hunting!

Your guide will be right there to relay the history of the beach, like how the boxes were built in the 1800s in an effort to protect the modesty of bathers.

Next on the itinerary is the Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park, which was a blast for kids and adults, alike! Here, you’ll learn all about tons of different local animals – some of which I’d never heard of before, as well as the “common” Australian critters like koalas.

I really enjoyed their signature “Conservation in Action” wildlife show, where you’ll get to see and learn about many lesser-known animals to create awareness.

After this, it’s time for some fresh air at The Nobbies and Seal Rocks, where you’ll get to appreciate phenomenal rocky views and of course, the fur seal colony. If you’re a photographer or simply enjoy dramatic landscapes, you’re sure to love it here.

Continue on to the local beach for some adorable entertainment in the form of the famous Penguin Parade! The Penguin Parade takes you and your group to a viewing platform where you’ll get to view hundreds of little penguins coming up from the ocean and over the sand on the way to their nearby burrows.

This is a safe way for you to get up close and personal with these cuties, without anyone being able to touch or affect them in any way. You can even choose the Penguin Parade Plus or guided Ranger Tour upgrade to see them even more up close!

3. Phillip Island Penguin Parade Day Trip with Koala Conservation Reserve Visit

penguin travel tours

  • Duration:  10 hours
  • Departure:  400 Flinders St, Melbourne
  • Departure Time: 11:45 AM
  • Includes:  Admission to Penguin Parade (general viewing) and Phillip Island Koala Reserve, National Park entry fees, hosted by an experienced driver guide with comprehensive local tour commentary in English, air-conditioned vehicle

If you’re in Australia and want to see some of the local adorable wildlife, you simply can’t miss this next tour. It’s one of the more affordable offerings, making it a great option for those on a budget who’d like to get out of Melbourne for the day.

The Phillip Island Penguin Parade Day Trip with Koala Conservation Reserve Visit Tour  will take you from the busy city to the untamed wild of the island, stopping for educational tours, breathtaking vistas, and delicious food along the way.

After your guide picks you and the rest of your party up from your hotel in the morning, you’ll set out to the Tooradin Jetty before anything else. This popular fishing hot spot is super close to the town’s airfield, and its delicious seafood restaurant is open to the public.

After fueling up on some local eats, you’ll then make your way over to the infamous Phillip Island Nature Parks’ Koala Reserve!

Everyone loves these cuddly little marsupials, and you’ll not only get to see them but learn all about them with your rangers to guide you through the fascinating reserve.

After that, it’s time to head out to the breezy Cape Woolamai Beach where you’ll take in expansive views of this volcanic coastline. Make sure to grab some shots of the Pyramid Rock, which looms over the scene in the distance!

After taking some time to walk around and soak in the sights, you’ll hop back in the air-conditioned vehicle and pay a visit to the legendary Penguin Parade!

Here, you’ll see the Little Penguins (the tiniest penguin species) waddle their way to their burrows from the water from the viewing platforms above. The staff is there to educate you on them and offer some insight to their natural behaviors as you watch on, ensuring everyone is safe and having fun.

4. Phillip Island Penguin and Koala Highlights Day-Trip from Melbourne

penguin travel tours

  • Duration: 8.5 hours
  • Includes:  Admission to Phillip Island Nature Park with Penguin Parade (general viewing) and Phillip Island Koala Conservation Reserve, live commentary, experienced local driver guide, air-conditioned new midi-coach travel

Australia is a country that has just about everything to offer, from busy cities to completely remote landscapes. On this tour, you’ll get a perfect mix of both, traveling from Melbourne to see some of the most intriguing locations the continent boasts.

Clocking in at 8.5 hours, if you have a day free you definitely need to consider taking the Phillip Island Penguin and Koala Highlights Day-Trip from Melbourne Tour .

After being picked up by your guide, you’ll travel by air-conditioned new midi-coach for less than 2 hours out to Phillip Island. This is such an amazing place if you’re at all interested in seeing what Victorian country life by the seaside is like, along with surfing and local wildlife.

This scenic haven offers coastal views galore, and it’s here where you’ll get to visit the Koala Reserve and see these cute critters up close.

Learn about the history of the koala, the Reserve itself, and take in this poignant reminder of the importance of preserving the last bastion of natural woodland in the area.

Cape Woolamai is now calling your name, coming with some of the best surfing in the world and a calm bay for laidback viewing. Continue on through the charming coastal township of Cowes, where you’ll appreciate the picture-perfect scenery of Westernport Bay.

After venturing through the meandering streets, cute storefronts, and delicious restaurants, you’ll then head back into the wilderness at The Nobbies. This rugged coastline comes with the optional guided walk down to the boardwalks where you’ll have the chance to see penguins nesting in their burrows.

After, journey through the island’s backroads with plenty of postcard-perfect coastal views before arriving to the Penguin Parade.

Here, you’ll witness the littlest kind of penguin walk from the water to their burrows as the guide offers a fun and educational commentary. This is a must for the adrenaline lovers!

5. Phillip Island Day Trip from Melbourne with Penguin Plus Viewing Platform

penguin travel tours

  • Includes:  Admission to Phillip Island (Penguins plus viewing area) and Phillip Island Koala Conservation Reserve, Expert driver guide with live commentary spoken in English

We couldn’t write up a guide on the best penguin tours in Phillip Island without including this one! The Phillip Island Day Trip from Melbourne with Penguin Plus Viewing Platform Tour  is just as educational as it is entertaining, making it perfect for people of all ages and backgrounds.

If you’re looking for something fun and exciting to do with the family, I can’t recommend this one enough!

What I really love about this tour is that you get the chance to see these beautiful local animals up close in their natural habitats, while feeling confident that the organizations that support them are really looking out for their best interests.

Your day starts out with a convenient hotel pickup in the morning, driving around 1 hour and 45 minutes directly to Phillip Island. Upon arrival, a Phillip Island Nature Parks Ranger will be there to greet you and give you an immersive presentation about the koalas and their history in the country.

After the presentation, you’ll time to check out the Reserve and see the furry guys for yourself (ensuring your and their safety throughout).

After the Koala Wildlife Park, you’ll take a quick cruise over to Phillip Island where you’ll learn all about the hundreds of different types of animals living there, natively. Pass by Cape Woolamai, which is really popular with surfers and tourists that come from all over the world to see the rocky coast.

Cowes Beach was one of my favorites, located along the calmer Westernport Bay and known for its charming homes, unique shops, and tons of tasty eateries.

After fueling up on some local food, head to the Nobbies Rocks where you’ll get the chance to walk down to the boardwalks to see little penguins nesting in their burrows.

I hope you aren’t sick of penguins yet, because you’ll then see the Penguin Parade and explore the Visitor Information Centre to learn all about the feathery friends!
