Arison, who had experience in the shipping industry, served as the company’s first chairman, while Riklis provided financial support. Together, they faced several challenges in the early years, including financial difficulties and a lack of public interest in cruising. However, they persevered and successfully grew the company, eventually becoming one of the largest cruise lines in the world. This period of Carnival Cruise Line’s history laid the foundation for its future success and expansion. Moving forward, the company underwent a significant acquisition by Ted Arison, which will be discussed in the next section.

Acquisition by Ted Arison

Following the company’s early challenges, an intriguing turn of events occurred when Ted Arison acquired Carnival Cruise Line, setting the stage for its remarkable transformation.

Arison, a successful businessman and entrepreneur, recognized the untapped potential of the cruise industry and saw an opportunity to create something special.

The acquisition had a significant impact on Carnival Cruise Line, both financially and strategically. Arison’s vision and leadership skills propelled the company to new heights, resulting in increased revenue and expansion into new markets.

Under his guidance, Carnival Cruise Line became a dominant player in the industry, known for its innovative ships, exceptional customer service, and affordable prices.

This acquisition paved the way for the subsequent merger with P&O Princess Cruises, which further solidified Carnival Cruise Line’s position as a global leader in the cruise industry.

Merger with P&O Princess Cruises

It also brought together the expertise and resources of two major players in the industry, leading to improved operational efficiency and increased profitability.

Additionally, the merger had significant financial implications, with the combined company enjoying increased revenues and market share.

This merger set the stage for Carnival Cruise Line’s current ownership structure.

The company is now owned by Carnival Corporation, a global cruise company that operates several other cruise lines.

This ownership structure has allowed Carnival to continue its growth and dominance in the industry.

Current Ownership Structure

How To Use Cruise Control

An image portraying a driver on a scenic highway, hands lightly resting on the steering wheel, with the cruise control button subtly highlighted, showcasing the effortless convenience of using this feature

Tired of constantly having to adjust your speed, especially on those long drives? Fear not, for I have the ideal solution for you: cruise control! This convenient feature works like having your own personal driver, allowing you to set your desired speed and then sit back and relax while your car takes care of everything else.

In this article, I will guide you through the ins and outs of using cruise control, ensuring that you have a safe and comfortable journey. We will start by understanding how cruise control works and checking if your vehicle is compatible. Then, I will show you how to find the cruise control button and set your desired speed.

We will also discuss adjusting your following distance, using the coast function, and monitoring road conditions. Lastly, we will cover when to disable cruise control, so you can confidently navigate through traffic and changing weather conditions.

So, buckle up and get ready to cruise in style!

  • Traffic and weather conditions should always be considered when using cruise control.
  • Safety and control should be prioritized, and cruise control should be disabled in challenging road conditions or heavy traffic.
  • Disabling cruise control can enhance driver awareness and provide a safer driving experience.
  • It is important to be aware of common misconceptions and potential dangers of using cruise control, particularly on slippery surfaces.

Understand How Cruise Control Works

To truly grasp the inner workings of cruise control, you’ve got to get under the hood and delve into its intricate system. Cruise control is a feature in most modern vehicles that allows you to maintain a constant speed without having to keep your foot on the accelerator.

Engaging cruise control is relatively straightforward. Simply press the ‘Cruise’ or ‘Set’ button, then increase or decrease your desired speed using the up or down arrows.

The benefits of using cruise control are numerous. It can help reduce fatigue on long drives, improve fuel efficiency, and promote a smoother driving experience.

Now, let’s transition into the next section and check your vehicle’s compatibility with cruise control.

Check Your Vehicle’s Compatibility

Ensure your car is compatible with this convenient feature before engaging it. Before using cruise control, it’s important to perform a compatibility test to determine if your vehicle supports this function. Here are three key points to consider:

Vehicle Make and Model: Different car manufacturers may have varying cruise control systems, so it’s crucial to check if your specific make and model supports this feature.

Year of Manufacture: Older vehicles may not have cruise control capabilities, so it’s essential to verify if your car’s year of manufacture aligns with the inclusion of this feature.

Additional Accessories: Certain aftermarket modifications, such as oversized tires or altered engine components, may affect the functionality of cruise control. Take into account any modifications you’ve made to your vehicle.

Understanding these limitations will help ensure a smooth and safe cruise control experience.

Now, let’s move on to finding the cruise control button.

Find the Cruise Control Button

Discover the hidden gem that unlocks the freedom of the open road – locate the elusive button that sets your vehicle on autopilot. Engaging cruise control can enhance your driving experience by maintaining a consistent speed without constantly pressing the accelerator. To engage cruise control, you need to find the cruise control button in your vehicle. The location may vary depending on the make and model, but it is typically found on the steering wheel or the dashboard. Look for a button with a symbol that resembles a speedometer or a car with arrows. Once you locate the button, simply press it to engage cruise control. Now that you know how to find the cruise control button, let’s move on to the next step of setting your desired speed.

Set Your Desired Speed

Get ready to experience the thrill of the open road as you effortlessly glide at your desired speed. Setting your desired speed is the first step in using cruise control. Once you locate the cruise control button, usually located on the steering wheel or dashboard, press it to activate the system.

Then, use the buttons or switches provided to adjust your desired speed. Most vehicles have buttons labeled with a ‘+’ and ‘-‘ sign to increase or decrease the speed. If you encounter any issues, such as the cruise control not engaging or maintaining the set speed, you may need to troubleshoot the system. Consult your vehicle’s manual for specific troubleshooting steps.

Now that you have set your desired speed, let’s move on to adjusting your following distance for a safer and more comfortable ride.

Adjust Your Following Distance

Now that you’ve set your desired speed, it’s important to adjust your following distance to ensure a safer and more comfortable ride on the open road.

Did you know that according to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, maintaining a proper following distance can significantly reduce the risk of rear-end collisions? By increasing safety and avoiding tailgating, you give yourself more time to react to any sudden changes in traffic ahead.

The general rule of thumb is to maintain a distance of at least three seconds between you and the car in front of you. To calculate this, pick a stationary object on the road and start counting when the car in front passes it. If you reach the object before you finish counting to three, then you are following too closely.

By adjusting your following distance, you can minimize the chances of a rear-end collision and ensure a smoother driving experience.

Now let’s move on to the next section about how to use the cancel or resume function.

Use the Cancel or Resume Function

To enhance your driving experience, you can easily engage the cancel or resume function. This allows you to effortlessly adjust your speed while maintaining a safe following distance.

With the resume function, all you need to do is press the button, and your vehicle will automatically accelerate to the previously set speed. It’s like having your very own personal chauffeur who remembers your preferred speed.

On the other hand, if you need to slow down temporarily, the cancel function comes to the rescue. Simply press the button, and your vehicle will disengage the cruise control, allowing you to decelerate. This function is particularly useful when encountering unexpected traffic or road obstacles.

Now, let’s move on to the next function: the coast function, which allows you to save fuel by disengaging the throttle.

Use the Coast Function

Take a moment to explore the coast function, which allows you to save fuel by disengaging the throttle, giving you more control over your vehicle’s speed. The coast function is a useful tool that can benefit both your wallet and the environment. By coasting, you are able to conserve fuel by letting your vehicle glide without any power from the engine. This can be particularly effective when driving downhill or approaching a red light. To use the coast function effectively, it is important to maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle in front of you and be aware of your surroundings. Additionally, it is crucial to monitor road conditions to ensure a smooth transition between coasting and resuming your desired speed. By mastering the coast function, you can optimize your fuel efficiency and have a more enjoyable driving experience.

Monitor Road Conditions

It’s essential to stay vigilant and stay aware of the road conditions when using the coast function to ensure a smooth and efficient driving experience. The road surface conditions play a crucial role in determining how effective the coast function will be.

It’s important to consider if the road is wet, icy, or uneven, as these factors can affect the vehicle’s ability to maintain a consistent speed. Additionally, weather conditions such as heavy rain, fog, or strong winds can also impact the effectiveness of the coast function.

Being aware of these factors allows the driver to make necessary adjustments to ensure a safe and comfortable ride. By monitoring road conditions, drivers can make informed decisions and optimize their use of the coast function.

This awareness sets the stage for the subsequent section about being mindful of traffic and weather conditions, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of utilizing cruise control effectively.

Be Mindful of Traffic and Weather Conditions

Driving with cruise control requires being mindful of traffic and weather conditions in order to ensure a smooth and enjoyable ride. To prioritize traffic safety, it’s crucial to maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead, allowing ample time to react if sudden braking is required.

Additionally, being aware of the traffic flow around you helps to anticipate any potential hazards. Weather precautions are equally important, especially in adverse conditions. Reduced visibility due to rain, fog, or snow can make it harder to react promptly, so it’s essential to slow down and adjust your speed accordingly. Moreover, icy or slippery roads demand extra caution, as cruise control may not respond effectively in such situations.

By staying vigilant and adapting to traffic and weather conditions, you can maximize the benefits of cruise control while ensuring a safe journey.

Transitioning into the next section, let’s discuss when it’s appropriate to disable cruise control.

Know When to Disable Cruise Control

There are several instances where it is necessary to deactivate cruise control for safety reasons. For example, when driving in heavy traffic, it is important to have full control over your vehicle to react quickly to changing situations. 11 Port Canaveral Hotels with Shuttle Service to Cruise Terminal

I prefer staying in a hotel rather than directly reaching the port from a nearby airport. Well, it does work for many people, but I can’t risk my cruise, nor do I want to stress myself out about being on time.

So, staying in a nearby hotel keeps me safe, especially when I cruise from Port Canaveral, one of the world’s largest cruise ports.

There are so many resources online that help you plan your cruise that, many times, it becomes a little messy to decide what to choose or not.

Selecting the hotel near your cruise port boils down to two things: location and budget. That’s it!

So, stay on this page, and I will walk you through my experience of selecting the right Port Canaveral hotels with shuttle service.

You will also read how you can virtually walk in the area before selecting a hotel to decide not only about the hotel and its amenities and added benefits but also the surroundings.

Table of Contents

Is It Worth Opting for Hotels with a Shuttle to Port Canaveral?

Canaveral port

Yes, definitely!

It’s the largest cruise port in the world (it keeps shuffling the top position with Port Miami from time to time), hence the busiest one. On top of that, Florida traffic is insane, and you will see a car smash now and then.

You can opt for Uber, car rental, or private taxi to be safe. But they all cost you $$ to make your vacation out of budget. That’s why booking a hotel that offers free or low-cost shuttle service feels like heaven when traveling on a budget.

I prefer the cruise shuttle service because it saves me money, and I want to be stress-free on holidays.

Location Matters A Lot!

But why? Let’s say you have booked a hotel with a shuttle service and are all set to cruise on a fine day. Suddenly, you need to do some shopping or want to go on some free tours to nearby sites. Here is when the location of your hotel comes into play.

A good location has always helped me experience free walking tours to beaches and parks and made shopping easy in Florida as I don’t pack too much stuff in my backpack.

Keeping in mind the importance of location, I have told you some insider tips on each hotel I will suggest in this blog.

Virtually Walk in the Area Before Booking a Hotel Near Cape Canaveral

I use Google Pegman to walk into the area virtually and book a pre-cruise hotel. It might look crazy, but it helps me check the restaurants, shops, parks, and beaches around the hotels. I can even walk on the roads and find what’s at the corner of that road.

Using this technique has saved me from later frustration, and this is my top secret weapon for choosing a location cause, as I already said, Location Matters!!

The hotel has many onsite dining options, including a beachside Tiki Bar serving refreshing cocktails with a side of live entertainment.

Check out these list of Port Canaveral hotels and alternatives for lodging ahead of your Disney Cruise.

If you’re headed to Port Canaveral for a Disney Cruise (lucky you!), you’ll want to consider starting your vacation a day early.

Travel delays happen, so treating yourself and your family to a pre-cruise hotel stay is the best way to avoid a not-so-magical situation— watching your cruise sail away without you . Luckily, there are plenty of Port Canaveral hotels and lodging options that are perfect for guests preparing to embark on a Disney Cruise.

Radisson Resort at the Port

Nestled in the heart of Cape Canaveral, the Radisson Resort at the Port features an on-site restaurant, tennis courts, expansive outdoor pool and hot tub, lounge , and grounds complete with fishponds and waterfalls . The resort also offers several stay and cruise packages . These package options include shuttle services to and from the port , long-term parking , and—unlike most other area hotels — transportation to and from Orlando International Airport (MCO) .

[metaslider id=”40370″]

Beachside Hotel & Suites

Another location that offers transportation from the Orlando International Airport (MCO), as well as the Melbourne and Sanford Airports, and cruise port shuttles , the Beachside Hotel Cocoa Beach is a resort-style hotel steps away from the ocean. This boutique hotel features a retro vibe and is located on Cocoa Beach. It offers a free hot breakfast, outdoor lazy river pool, bar and grille, and free bike and beach rentals .

Residence Inn Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach

Photo courtesy of Residence Inn Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach

\Less than a mile from the port, the Residence Inn Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach   features suites equipped with a full kitchen, a complimentary hot breakfast, evening social experiences on select nights, an outdoor pool, and even a small basketball court .

While you will find an outdoor BBQ grill and a patio bar, you won’t find a full-scale restaurant. However, there are several restaurants within a mile of this hotel’s location. The hotel does not offer airport shuttle service but offers discounted long-term parking for cruise guests and a shuttle service to the cruise port for $10 per person for round-trip service.

[metaslider id=”53772″]

Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Port Canaveral, FL

Adjacent to the Residence Inn, the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Port Canaveral, FL features complimentary cookies and coffee in their lobby, an outdoor pool, and a free hot breakfast . Like its neighbor, however, you won’t find any restaurants. You will find an abundance of room types, including a whirlpool suite and a studio featuring a king and two twin beds perfect for families preparing to board one of Disney’s ships. This hotel also features a cruise parking package that includes vehicle parking and shuttle services.

Homewood Suites by Hilton Cape Canaveral-Cocoa Beach

Photo courtesy of Homewood Suites by Hilton Cape Canaveral-Cocoa Beach

Also a mile from the cruise ships, this Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel includes an outdoor pool, Tiki Bar, free hot breakfast, complimentary evening socials on select nights, and an array of rooms and suites to choose from. It doesn’t feature any restaurants, but you can find several nearby.  While we couldn’t find any information about cruise shuttles on the hotel’s website, we did confirm over the phone that the hotel offers a cruise shuttle for $6 per person and park and go packages that include parking for one car and round trip shuttle service for two people.

Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront

Photo courtesy of Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront

While this one is 20 minutes from the Port Canaveral Cruise Port, Disney Cruise Line specifically lists this oceanfront Cocoa Beach hotel as a prime pre- and post-cruise hotel to stay at. At the Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront , you’ll find beachfront access, an outdoor pool, and multiple dining locations —including an outdoor Tiki Beach Grill for casual fare and the Salt Restaurant for finer dining. This resort also offers an airport and cruise shuttle service .

Of course, traditional Port Canaveral hotels aren’t your only option when staying the night before your Disney Cruise. Thanks to the explosion of the vacation rental site Airbnb, you can also find an array of privately run room and home rentals —some of which are located directly on the beach.  Just keep in mind that while you may save on nightly rates , you won’t have a shuttle service option. So, you’ll need to arrange for transportation to and from the airport, as well as from your Airbnb to the port. If you’re driving, you’ll need to park at or near the cruise terminal—which can get a little pricy.

On this page we’ve collected some useful hints about Disney Cruise hotels and where to stay before or after your cruise, ground transportation (limo or rental car) and other pre/post cruise information.

What to Do If Your Return Flight Leaves Late in the Day

These hotels are also good places to stay if you also want to visit the Kennedy Space Center .

Hyatt Regency Orlando Airport

The Hyatt Regency Orlando Airport  is an upscale hotel that is actually located in the Orlando International (MCO) airport terminal , so you don’t have to worry about traveling any further. Just collect your bags, take them up on the elevator, check in and you’re ready to start enjoying your vacation! Or, if you prefer, take advantage of their luggage retrieval service; for a small flat fee ($10, last we checked, plus tips for the bell staff at your discretion), Hyatt staff will retrieve your luggage from baggage claim and deliver it to your room. (The rooms are well insulated from the airport noise, by the way — we have stayed there several times and did not hear the planes.)

If you stay at the airport Hyatt instead of going all the way out to Walt Disney World, you are much closer to Port Canaveral. That means you can sleep in a little longer before heading off to the ship in the morning. You can choose from multiple dining options within the airport, or take a swim at the hotel. It’s great way to start relaxing right away.

The Hyatt has a relationship with Disney, so you can arrange Disney bus transportation to the ship from the hotel (or you can book a private car transfer or rental car if you prefer). If you arrange your transportation through Disney, your luggage is transported directly to your stateroom on the ship. Talk about convenient!

The Fort Lauderdale hotel below can be added to your Disney Cruise Line reservation. If you have booked through a travel agent , contact your agent to add a pre-cruise and/or post-cruise stay. If you have booked directly with Disney Cruise Line, call them.

Pre/post-cruise stays can be added up until 31 days prior to check-in date (after that time, you can be waitlisted). If you stay both before and after the cruise, both portions must be booked at the same hotel. Pre/post-cruise stays that are added to a cruise reservation must be purchased for ALL guests in the same stateroom.

Alternatively, you can book directly with this hotel  through the links below, which may be less expensive and offer more flexibility:

  • Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina is about 5 miles from the Fort Lauderdale Airport and about a 1/2 mile from the cruise terminal. They offer a shuttle to the beach. There is also a Water Taxi stop just a short walk away, which will take you to shops, restaurants and the beach, or just use it to take a tour of Fort Lauderdale’s waterways.
  • Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa is about 5 miles from the Fort Lauderdale Airport and about 5 miles from the cruise terminal. The high-end hotel is on a private beach and has multiple restaurants at the hotel, a full-service spa, an activity center for kids age 5-12 and more.

We would strongly recommend staying in Galveston rather than Houston pre-cruise unless you book Disney’s Houston hotel (the Marriott listed below) and Disney’s hotel-cruise transportation. It’s an hour or more drive to the cruise terminal from Houston, and traffic can double that, especially on holiday weekends. It’s best to fly in the day before the cruise, take a cab or shuttle to Galveston, and stay overnight at a hotel there. You don’t want to be sitting in traffic at 2 pm on the day of your cruise wondering if you’ll make it on time.

The Galveston hotels below can be added to your Disney Cruise Line reservation. If you have booked through a travel agent , contact your agent to add a pre-cruise and/or post-cruise stay. If you have booked directly with Disney Cruise Line, call them.

Alternatively, you can book directly with these hotels  through the links below, which may be less expensive:

  • The Houston Airport Marriott at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport is right in the Houston airport complex, and is connected by tram to the terminal. If you arrange your own transportation, be aware that G. W. Bush International is a good 75-90 minute drive from the Galveston cruise terminal.
  • San Luis Resort, Spa & Conference Center is a lovely resort right on the beach in central Galveston. It’s about a 10-15 minute drive to the cruise terminal.
  • Hilton Galveston Island Resort is a beautiful hotel with extensive amenities, located a very short walk away from the beach. It’s about a 12-16 minute drive to the cruise terminal.

The best deal going in Miami seems to be Comfort Suites Miami Airport North . While it’s not fancy, this well-reviewed hotel offers reasonable rates along with some great benefits:

  • FREE transfers between Miami airport and the hotel and FREE transfers between the hotel and the Port of Miami! As far as we know, this is the only hotel in Miami offering both transfers for free, which can save you a substantial amount in taxi or shuttle fares.
  • FREE hot breakfast.
  • FREE Wi-Fi.

Comfort Suites Miami Airport North  is a non-smoking hotel and rooms include high-definition flat-screen television with cable, microwave, refrigerator, pillow-top mattress, safe, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board.

Official Disney Cruise Hotels

If you prefer something more upscale, the Miami-area hotels below can be added to your Disney Cruise Line reservation. If you have booked through a  travel agent , contact your agent to add a pre-cruise and/or post-cruise stay. If you have booked directly with Disney Cruise Line, call them.

Alternatively, you can  book directly with these hotels  through the links below, which may be less expensive and offer more flexibility:

  • EB Hotel Miami is a 4-diamond boutique hotel near the airport. It’s literally across the street from the airport property, but is about 2.5 miles by road from the entrance (7 minutes or so). It’s about 8.5 miles from the cruise terminal (about 15 minutes).
  • Hyatt Centric Brickell Miami is a tower hotel located in the heart of downtown Miami, roughly 2 miles from the cruise terminals. Downtown Miami has a wealth of shopping, restaurants and things to do and see, and the hotel has great views of Biscayne Bay from the rooftop pool deck and many rooms.

The San Diego hotels below can be added to your Disney Cruise Line reservation. If you have booked through a travel agent , contact your agent to add a pre-cruise and/or post-cruise stay. If you have booked directly with Disney Cruise Line, call them.

Alternatively, you can book directly with these hotels  through the link below, which may be less expensive:

  • The Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego is on San Diego Bay between the San Diego Convention Center and the Seaport Village. It is approximately 3 miles from San Diego International Airport and just a few blocks from the San Diego Cruise Terminal.
  • The Intercontinental San Diego is a modern 4-diamond tower hotel just across the street from the cruise terminal, with sweeping views of San Diego Bay. It’s about 3 miles from San Diego International Airport.

The Vancouver hotels below can be added to your Disney Cruise Line reservation. If you have booked through a travel agent , contact your agent to add a pre-cruise and/or post-cruise stay. If you have booked directly with Disney Cruise Line, call them.

Alternatively, you can book directly with these hotels through the links below, which may be less expensive:

  • Fairmont Waterfront boasts a spectacular location across from the Convention Centre and Canada Place Cruise Ship Terminal, within walking distance of the city’s many restaurants, shops and galleries. All rooms are elegantly appointed with contemporary, airy deco and feature floor to ceiling windows to highlight the beautiful scenery. If you decide to stay here, be sure to sign up for the Accor Live Limitless loyalty program (free) in advance, which will give you FREE internet during your stay.
  • Fairmont Vancouver Airport is the only luxury hotel and spa within Vancouver’s International Airport, located in the suburb of Richmond (20 minutes south of Vancouver). The beautifully appointed guest rooms are spacious with floor-to-ceiling windows offering soundproof views, revealing the serenity of mountain views and plane spotting opportunities. If you decide to stay here, be sure to sign up for the Accor Live Limitless loyalty program (free) in advance, which will give you FREE internet during your stay.
  • Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown is an upscale tower hotel in the heart of Downtown Vancouver. High floor rooms have a great view of the harbor and/or downtown. It’s about a half-mile from the cruise terminal, which would be an easy 5 minute cab or Lyft ride.

A hotel that isn’t part of the Disney cruise add-on program, but is well worth considering, is the Pan-Pacific Vancouver , since it is literally in the same building as the Cruise Ship Terminal, and they offer free transfer of your checked bags to the ship, which is a huge convenience. You should tip the bell staff a dollar or two per bag (they’ll take US dollars happily if you don’t have Canadian).

You’ll be getting off the cruise ship early in the morning on the last day. If your flight doesn’t leave for hours, and you don’t know what to do with your day, here are some suggestions.

Orlando International Airport (MCO)

Los angeles international airport (lax).

  • Get a “day room” at Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport . For a modest charge (typically less than an overnight rate) you can use a hotel room from 10:00 am until as late as 6:00 pm and watch TV, use the hotel pool, etc. When flight time rolls around, you’re already in the terminal! Call the hotel directly at (407) 825-1234 to book a day room. The Hyatt has a relationship with Disney, so you can arrange Disney transportation to the hotel from the ship, or you can book a private car transfer or rental car if you prefer.
  • If you have loads of time, you can rent a car for the day and visit the nearby Kennedy Space Center to explore the NASA exhibits, or play in the sand at Cocoa Beach . Allow at least an hour to drive back to the airport.
  • Los Angeles Airport Marriott – Day room rates vary by date. They are available from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Call the hotel directly at (310) 641-5700 and ask for the front desk to book a day room.
  • Embassy Suites Los Angeles – International Airport South – Day rooms can be booked an “as-available” basis on the day of check-in (no advance bookings). Rooms can be used from morning through 6:00 pm. Call the hotel directly at (310) 640-3600 and press 0 for the front desk. (Do not select “reservations,” as that will send you to a call center that knows nothing about the day rooms.)
  • If you have loads of time, you can rent a car for the day and either drive to Hollywood (check out Disney’s El Capitan Theatre  or play in the sand at one of the many beautiful local beaches ( Manhattan Beach and Venice Beach are two great, close-by options, each with its own unique vibe). Allow at least an hour to drive back to the airport.

Disney’s bus transfers to and from the port are convenient, but also pretty expensive, especially for a family:

  • In Florida, Disney offers bus transfers between any of the Walt Disney World resort hotels and Port Canaveral, or between the Orlando (MCO) airport or the Hyatt MCO and Port Canaveral. You can also do a multi-part transfer (for example airport-resort-port-airport). The cost is $78 per person round trip or $39 per person one-way for Disney’s bus transfers.
  • Only hotels that are offered as pre- or post-cruise options by Disney Cruise Line have transportation available from Disney Cruise Line. If you stay in a different hotel, you’ll need to arrange your own transportation.
  • The cost depends on the prevailing transportation rates in that city and the distances between the airport, hotel and cruise port. Remember taxis and car services charge per car , whereas Disney charges per person .
  • With a party of two, the total cost for a private car or taxi will usually be similar to the total cost of Disney’s transportation. Lyft will almost always be cheaper, if it is offered in the city in question. A party of three or more people will almost always save money using independent transportation.
  • The primary appeal of using Disney’s transportation is that it’s easy; you follow the signs to the bus and it takes you where you need to be. That said, it’s not faster, it usually involves more waiting, not less, and it’s not flexible. If you want to get where you are going as fast as possible, either a taxi, car service (Lyft) or pre-booked private car is always going to beat the buses.

Disney’s transfers must be booked a minimum of 3 days before the start of the trip through your travel agent (or Disney if you booked direct). At the airports, a Disney rep will be at the baggage claim area to help direct guests to the bus. Your luggage will go directly to your stateroom; you just need take your day bag with you to the cruise terminal.

One down side of using the Disney bus system is that you will arrive at the port with a big group of people and at a time dictated by Disney. The result is often a long wait in the check-in lines. You may also miss lunch on the ship, since the buses tend to arrive in the afternoon.

Below are alternate options that may be cheaper and/or more convenient.

  • Port Canaveral – Shuttle by Happy Limo

Port Canaveral – Rental Car

Port canaveral – luxury sedan, limo or private van/suv service, port canaveral – cruise port parking.

  • Port of San Diego – Rental Car
  • Port of San Diego – Luxury Sedan, Limo or Private Van/SUV Service

Port of San Diego – Shuttle

  • Port of San Diego – Parking
  • Port of Vancouver – Transportation

Port of Vancouver – Parking

Port canaveral – shuttle by happy limo.

Happy Limo , a private car and limo service we have recommended for years, offers a great shared-shuttle option for trips between Orlando International Airport and the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Canaveral. The base price per person is $30/person each way ($60 round trip), plus a $20 port fee (each way, per booking, not per person). The minimum booking is 4 people. Tips are at customer’s discretion (conventional tips these days for shuttle drivers seem to be about 15%-20%, or about $4.50-$6/person each way). For shared service for a family of 4+ to Port Canaveral, this is a better deal than Disney, and gives you more control over when you want to travel.

Airport to Port Canaveral

Shuttles leave Orlando International from Terminal B, level 1 (ground transportation), shuttle spaces B-5 through B-9. You must reserve a spot in advance for one of the available times: 9:00 am, 10:00 am or 11:00 am. Your party must have a minimum of 4 passengers to book a shuttle. When you arrive at the shuttle spaces, you will need to check in via phone at (407) 856-1280 . Expect arrival at the cruise terminal roughly 45-60 minutes from the shuttle departure time, depending on traffic.

Port Canaveral to Airport

Shuttles leave Port Canaveral from shuttle space #4, right in front of the terminal. You must reserve a spot in advance for one of the available times: 8:00 am, 9:00 am or 10:00 am. When you arrive at the shuttle space, you will need to check in via phone at (407) 856-1280 . Expect arrival at the airport roughly 45-60 minutes from the shuttle departure time, depending on traffic.

  • To reserve your shuttle time , you can book online here: Happy Limo Rates & Reservations , or call Happy Limo at (877) 642-7791 or (407) 856-1280 .
  • MouseSavers readers get $10 off per booking each way! That’s $20 off a round-trip booking. Just mention MouseSavers when booking over the phone, or put “referred by MouseSavers” in the comments section when booking online.
  • Note: To book a shuttle, your party must have a minimum of 4 passengers. If there are less than 4 passengers, a towncar, limo or van  must be booked.
  • Note : when booking online, for one-way trips from the airport or round-trips, use one of the three pickup times listed above as your pickup time, select “Airport Pickup” as your trip type, “Orlando International Airport” as your pickup location, “Port Canaveral” as your dropoff location and select “Shuttle” as your vehicle type (it’s the last one in the vehicle list). For one-way trips from Port Canaveral, reverse the pickup and dropoff locations and pick one of the Port Canaveral pickup times listed above.

Your most economical option may be to rent a car one-way between the airport and Port Canaveral. None of the rental car companies listed below have a one-way or drop-off charge except as noted. Depending on the rental car company, you can either take a shuttle or a cab to the port.

Renting a car gives you the flexibility to stop and grab some groceries or last-minute items, and you can arrive at the ship earlier than the bus passengers, which allows you to board ahead of the crowd and get yourself settled, make Palo and spa reservations, etc.

  • See our Rental Car Discounts page for many discount codes, coupons and tricks to help you save on your rental car!

All the  major rental car companies have offices near Port Canaveral. When searching for a location, use “Cape Canaveral, FL” as the location. Alamo, National, Enterprise and Budget are very close to the Port Canaveral cruise terminal (but not close enough to walk). The others aren’t too far away. Keep in mind that between about 11 am and 3 pm on days when a cruise is leaving, all of these locations will be busy, and check-in may be slow. The shuttles to the cruise terminal will fill up fast, so it might take several shuttles before you can get one. Taxis and Lyft will also be super busy, so it may take some time to get one to the rental location. Allow plenty of time to get back to the ship, or get there before 11 am.

  • Budget is usually the best bet for transfers to and from the port. For one thing, Budget often has the best prices on one-day rentals. It also has on-site facilities at the Orlando International (MCO) and its office in Cape Canaveral (location code ZC5) is fairly close to the cruise terminal. Budget offers free shuttle service between its office and the port, though several people have reported that they find it easier and faster to take a taxi or Lyft to and from the terminal instead, which costs about $6-$8 each way.
  • Avis has a location on-site at MCO and an office in Cape Canaveral (location code P3F), a bit further away than Budget. Avis has free shuttle service between its office and the cruise terminal, or you can take a cab for around $7-$10 each way.
  • Alamo , National and Enterprise (all owned by the same company) share the Enterprise office in Cape Canaveral very near the port. They offer a free shuttle from their office to the port, or you can take a cab for $5-$6 each way.

If you want to gas up your rental car on the way back to the airport , exit Florida 528 at Narcoosee Road, which is two exits before the airport exit, and turn right. There is a BP station about a block up on the right, with normal gas prices. Note that this exit is tolled, so you’ll want to bring your own windshield toll pass to avoid exhorbitant rental car toll fees.

The nearest gas station to the airport (“Landing Strip” aka “Suncoast Energy” on Semoran Boulevard, just north of the airport) is a complete rip-off . This station habitually charges nearly TWICE the normal price for gas and does not have signs to let people know the prices before they pull in. You won’t realize you’re paying a ridiculous price unless you look closely at the pump!

A fun, relaxing (and surprisingly economical) way to get from Walt Disney World or the Orlando Airport to the cruise terminal at Port Canaveral is to use luxury sedan, limo or private van/SUV service.

The great thing is, you can schedule the vehicle to get you to the ship earlier than the bus passengers, which allows you to board ahead of the crowd and get yourself settled, make Palo and spa reservations, etc.

A luxury sedan is generally cheaper than Disney’s bus transfers if you are transporting a family. For larger groups, a private van, SUV or limo is definitely the way to go. You’ll save money and time.

  • Learn more about towncar, limo or private van service to/from Port Canaveral and a discount code that will help you save money!

Parking at the port is $17 per day (not per night). You are charged for your arrival and departure days, even though they are partial days. The upshot is, this is what you’ll pay:

  • 3-night cruise – $68 ($17 x 4 days)
  • 4-night cruise – $85 ($17 x 5 days)
  • 5-night cruise – $102 ($17 x 6 days)
  • 7-night cruise – $136 ($17 x 8 days)

Check the Port Canaveral website for more information about parking and directions.

Be sure to check on deals at the hotels near the port . You can usually pay for one night and get a week of free parking in the hotel lot and often a complimentary shuttle ride to/from the cruise terminal. Usually there’s a special cruise hotel package you need to book to get the “free” parking, which will cost somewhat more than booking their lowest rate, but it’s nearly always going to be cheaper than parking at the port. Some hotels include the parking in the package cost, but charge extra for the shuttle. Even if the shuttle fee is included, the shuttle drivers are not shy about asking for tips, and the wait for the shuttle can be long, so we usually take a taxi or Lyft even if there’s an ostensibly “free” shuttle. From most of the Canaveral hotels to the cruise terminal is about a $5-7 taxi fare.

Port of San Diego – Rental Car

If you will be taking a West Coast Disney cruise and you are also planning to make a “grand tour” of Southern California, with a visit to Disneyland as well as other Southern California tourist destinations , a rental car is definitely your best bet. Taking taxis, limos or shuttles between the major attractions would cost a fortune because the distances are significant. For instance, it’s a 1.5 hour drive between SeaWorld San Diego and Disneyland. Southern California is a very car-oriented culture, with relatively poor public transportation. Trying to get between a number of different attractions without a car can be an exercise in frustration.

If you are flying in or out of San Diego International Airport (SAN) , all of the major rental car companies have locations there. See the Rental Cars page and check the company that interests you for more information.

It is never cost-effective to rent a car at SAN and leave it at the port during your cruise. Parking near the port is expensive. The airport is very close to the cruise port, so it’s better to rent the car at the airport either pre- or post-cruise and return it to the airport so you’re not accruing both rental fees and parking charges during the cruise.

Port of San Diego – Lyft, Taxi, Luxury Sedan, Limo or Private Van/SUV Service

The cruise terminal is very close to the airport as the crow flies, but because of the road layout and potential traffic, it’s about a 5 mile trip and takes about 15-20 minutes. Disney offers bus service, but the quickest and sometimes the least expensive way to accomplish your transfer will be Lyft , a taxi or a private limo service.

  • Learn more about towncar, limo or private van service to/from the Port of San Diego .

If you need to transfer between the San Diego Airport (SAN) and the Port of San Diego, your least expensive option is usually  a shared van service . The shuttle will make multiple stops, so allow plenty of time.

However, for the ultimate in convenience and luxury, consider using a private towncar or limo transfer . It may cost a bit more than a shuttle, but it is much more comfortable and efficient.

Port of San Diego – Parking

Parking for a San Diego cruise, is, in a word, messy. There is no official parking lot, just a lot of independent lots nearby that also handle other parking business and can fill up. If you can get a reservation, the parking at the Wyndham across the street  from the cruise terminal is convenient. If not, most of the long-term parking in the area (including many of the airport long-term lots) offer a shuttle to the cruise terminal, or you can get a cab from the parking lot.

Port of Vancouver – Transportation

The simplest way to get to Vancouver, BC is to fly to Vancouver International Airport (YVR). However, there are more flight options available to Seattle-Tacoma Airport (SEA), which is just 3-4 hours away from Vancouver by train or bus. Airfares to Seattle are often much cheaper, even when you factor in the cost of the extra train or bus ticket and other costs, and the trip from Seattle to Vancouver is quite scenic. Traveling via Seattle can add 5-6 hours to your trip, however. To make the Seattle option work well, it’s really best to stay in Seattle at least overnight, then take the train or bus up on another date. It is possible to fly into Seattle and get onto a ship in Vancouver the same day, but the connections are super tight — there’s not a lot of room for error and we wouldn’t recommend it.

Flying To Vancouver Directly

The closest airport is Vancouver International (YVR). You can get a taxi to the Canada Place cruise terminal for about $45-$60 CAD (plus tip), which takes 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic. Vancouver now has Lyft service, and that’s going to run $30-40 CAD.

You can also book a limo or town car. The official town car company for the airport is Aerocar , which charges a flat $64 CAD (plus tip) for a sedan from YVR to the cruise terminal.

The cheapest and usually easiest way to go is the SkyTrain Canada Line , a light rail train that goes directly from the airport to Waterfront Station. The SkyTrain station is right across from the airport entrance – ask someone to direct you if needed; the signs are not as clear as one would like. Get on any train; the track begins at the airport and all trains head to Waterfront, so you can’t get on the wrong train or the wrong direction. When you reach Waterfront station, take the Cordova Street exit from the station, turn right and walk down about a block and a half to Howe. Turn right and the cruise terminal and Pan Pacific hotel is right there. The cash fare is only $7-9 CAD per person (depending on whether you’re going peak or off-peak). You do not need cash; the ticket kiosks take credit cards. It takes about 25-35 minutes. Keep in mind that the trains don’t have any luggage racks, so if you have a lot of luggage, SkyTrain may be a bit of a hassle.

Flying to Seattle Then Train To Vancouver

You’ll want to fly to Seattle-Tacoma airport (SEA). If you want to make it on your cruise ship that same day, you’ll need to arrive very early, probably before 6:15 am, as the morning train leaves at 7:45 am and there isn’t another until 7:00 pm. If you plan to arrive a day or more early, obviously you can take the later train or the early one the next day.

There are two Amtrak trains per day from Seattle to Vancouver, which you can book in advance on the Amtrak website . Prices start at $34 per person, each way, and the trip takes 4 hours (though allow extra time, as it often takes longer). As seats sell out, only the higher fares remain available, and they go as high as $86, so book early. Be sure you book the Amtrak Cascades  train trip ; Amtrak also books their own “Thruway” bus service which is not usually the best bus option.

You will also need to get from the SeaTac airport to the King Street train station in downtown Seattle, and from the Vancouver Pacific Central train station to the Canada Place cruise terminal.

In Seattle, the taxi ride is $40 (flat rate, plus tip) from the airport to anywhere in downtown Seattle, including the train station. Allow 30 minutes for the trip, longer on weekdays at rush hour. You can also take the Link light rail for $3/person from the airport to the International District station, which is 3 blocks from the King Street Station, but there are no luggage racks, so it can be a hassle if you have multiple bags. Seattle also has Lyft service available.

In Vancouver, a taxi from the train station to the cruise terminal is about $12-$15 CAD (plus tip) and takes about 15 minutes, or you can walk a couple blocks from the train station and take the Expo Line from SkyTrain Main Street station to the Waterfront station for around $2.75 CAD. When you reach Waterfront Station, use the Howe Street exit and you come out right in front of the cruise terminal. Again, there are no luggage racks on SkyTrain, so not a great option for those with many big or unwieldy bags. Vancouver also has Lyft service available.

Flying to Seattle Then Bus To Vancouver

The closest airport is Seattle-Tacoma airport (SEA). To make it onto your cruise that same day, you’ll want to get in before 9:00 am in order to make it on a 10:00 am bus. If you plan to arrive a day or more early, obviously you can take a later bus.

The Quick Coach bus service is the most convenient, since it drops off directly at the Canada Place cruise terminal in Vancouver. If you book at least 24 hours in advance, you can have them drop you directly at any downtown Vancouver hotel. Fares start at $50 one way or $95 round trip for adults, with discounts available for children and seniors. There are significant charges for baggage over and above one purse-sized personal item. The trip takes about 4.5 hours.

The Seattle-Vancouver FlixBus (owned by Greyhound) goes from several Seattle locations (including SeaTac Airport) to the Vancouver Pacific Central train station, with advance fares as low as $30 each way, including one large bag and one personal item (purse-sized). The trip takes about 4.5 hours from SeaTac or 4 hours from downtown Seattle. You still need to get from the Vancouver train station to the cruise terminal or your hotel. See the section above on train travel to see the various options on each end.

Flying to Bellingham Then Bus or Train to Vancouver

An often-overlooked option that can work for some people is to fly to Bellingham, WA which is the closest major city in Washington to Vancouver, BC. Sometimes it’s only a little more expensive to fly to Bellingham than to Seattle, and a bus or train from Bellingham takes less than half the time (just under two hours) and has a much lower fare than the same bus or train from Seattle. The connections aren’t as tight, and it’s more reasonable to try to fly into Bellingham and get on your cruise ship the same day, though given the vagaries of modern air travel, we still suggest getting in a day early if you can. All of the options from Seattle, including Quick Coach , FlixBus and Amtrak can also be taken from Bellingham. For Amtrak you have to get to the Bellingham train station, and FlixBus picks up at Western Washington University or near the ferry terminal, but Bellingham is so small that the cab to any location is unlikely to be more than 5 minutes and about $10.

If you end up staying in Bellingham, or driving through at lunch time, our favorite fish & chips joint there is the Web Locker ( map link ). Whether it’s a good idea to have a lot of fried fish before getting on a cruise is a judgment call you’ll have to make for yourself. We can never seem to skip it. We also are very fond of the Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro  ( map link ), which is closer to the freeway. It has a bit of a brewpub feeling, but is family-friendly and serves a lot of comfort food like burgers and sandwiches.

Not all cities have good, reasonably-priced flights to Bellingham, but it can be worth checking out. The primary airlines that service Bellingham are Allegiant, Alaska and Horizon.

Parking is available for roughly $27 CAD per day (tax included) at the Port of Vancouver Cruise Terminal (Canada Place). Indigo Neo operates the parking garage, and requires guests parking at Canada Place Parking Garage for anything longer than one day to make a reservation online via their website , or by calling them at (800) 469-4169 . The garage is right there in the cruise terminal; to get to the ship you just take an elevator to the embarkation level and walk a few hundred feet.

Why Book a Pre Cruise Hotel?

Before I explain the important benefits of booking a pre cruise stay through Disney Cruise Line, I want to discuss why you need a hotel in the first place. Many cruisers decide to fly into the port the morning of the cruise. And obviously some of them would be successful with this.

However, they are all taking a big risk of their flight getting canceled or delayed and then not making it to the ship on time. I’m sure you’ve heard about this risky behavior before. However, a recent experience of flying to Florida further confirmed the need to get there at least a day early.

Disney Fantasy cruise ship

My family and I were traveling to Orlando in the summer when pop up storms are common. The entire Orlando airport shut down both on our flight to Orlando and on our flight home. This means that they weren’t allowing any planes headed to Orlando to even take off from their outgoing airport.

We ended up sitting through a four-hour delay on the way to Orlando. Once we finally landed, there was more lightning in the area, so the airport crew members had not been cleared to go outside to remove luggage from our plane that arrived. Even though all of the passengers were allowed to get off the plane, the bags were delayed even longer.

airport flight status screens with people walking by

This got me thinking that if any of those passengers were headed to Port Canaveral for a cruise, they were more than likely stressing about whether or not their luggage was going to arrive on time. And let’s be honest- most families don’t really pack lightly when going on any vacation.

This is especially true if you are traveling with babies or toddlers who require so many extra items like diapers, wipes, toys, etc. Since you are undoubtedly packing things that are important to your family, can you imagine how gut-wrenching it would be to arrive for a cruise WITHOUT your luggage?

Disney cruise ship with text overlay Pre Cruise Hotel Stay Port Canaveral

So, make sure you give yourself (and your luggage) plenty of time to make it to the cruise port on embarkation day . Since we don’t like to take the chance, my family and I like to fly in the day before our cruise is scheduled to set sail.

To us, the cost of a pre cruise hotel is worth the peace of mind of knowing we have landed and that we have our luggage.

Disney Cruise Hotels for Port Canaveral

As noted above, the lightning delay experience made me realize that any of those passengers who were headed to embark on a cruise ship were not going to have their luggage in time for their trip.

All of that stress could have easily been avoided by scheduling a flight (at least) the day before you set sail. The weather in Florida can be so unpredictable that it’s really better to be safe than sorry.

Disney Fantasy at Port Canaveral

Because we don’t like to take our chances with delays and cancelations, my family likes to combine a hotel and cruise package for our Disney cruise vacation. To do this, you just call Disney Cruise Line and ask to add on a pre cruise hotel to your trip.

(Note that if you booked your cruise through a travel agent, you would need to contact the agent to add the hotel.) The cast member on the phone will give you the pre cruise hotel options and prices depending on the port you’re sailing from.

When we called DCL to add on a Disney cruise hotel in Port Canaveral, the airport Hyatt was one of our options. To see the current hotels Disney offers for a cruise and stay package, you can check out their official website here .

Additionally, you always have the option of staying at the Walt Disney World Resort before your cruise vacation.

Best Hotel for a Relaxing Start to Your Vacation

There are obviously hotels near the cruise ship terminal in Port Canaveral, and they may seem like the most convenient option for a family. However, you would need to find transportation from the airport to those hotels.

In addition, you would need to reserve shuttle services to the Port Canaveral terminal on embarkation day. A simple solution (if you are flying into Orlando) is to book a room at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport.

Disney Cruise Line Terminal Port Canaveral

You really can’t beat the convenience of this hotel since it’s located right inside the airport! If you have ever visited the airport in Orlando, you have probably seen the Hyatt Regency’s balconies that overlook the big common area.

These balconies are an added bonus as they allow you to enjoy some “outside” space separate from the hotel room. Plus, when you stay at the airport Hyatt, you have access to the food court and fun shops that are outside of the security area at the airport.

white sign that reads Welcome to Orlando

It’s actually really easy to access this hotel from inside the airport and at baggage claim. After picking up your luggage, you just follow the signs for the entrance to the hotel.

The short walk only takes about five minutes, and it is super easy even with kids in tow. (Additionally, for a fee, the Hyatt will even pick up your bags at baggage claim for you. This allows you to bypass baggage claim altogether!)

I can’t even tell you how nice it is to grab your bags after a long day of travel and know that you can simply walk to your accommodations that evening.

Review of the Hyatt

My family and I travel a lot, and we’ve become really particular about the places we stay. That being said, we were really impressed with the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport as a whole.

The common areas of the hotel (lobby, restaurants, hallways) were all well-kept and welcoming. Our hotel room and bathroom were both very clean and had been recently updated.

Disney Cruise Planner

Our hotel room at the Hyatt had plenty of space for my husband, toddler, and me. My only disappointment was that the balcony didn’t have furniture on it.

I had envisioned relaxing on the balcony after putting my toddler down for the night. This turned out not to be a big deal since, after our little one went to sleep, my husband and I spent time organizing and preparing for the next day.

Restaurants at Hyatt MCO

The Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport offers many amenities that we found useful. I had planned to let my three-year-old swim in the outdoor pool before dinner, but our flight had been delayed getting into Orlando.

Instead, we went straight to dinner after checking in. The airport offers a variety of restaurants ranging from fast food to sit down meals. We ultimately opted to eat at the restaurant, Hemisphere, inside the Hyatt.

Our food was great, and the service was excellent, so we were happy with our decision. The airport looked pretty much empty after dinner, but the shops were still open.

Visitors can browse through the airport shops to kill time. These stores were full of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Seaworld memorabilia.

Day Use Room at Hyatt

In addition to the Hyatt at Orlando International Airport being a super convenient place to stay before your cruise, it is also a really great option for after your cruise. If you use the Disney Cruise Line transfers to take you back to the airport, you will typically arrive at the airport by late morning.

If you have a flight that is later in the day, you could potentially have a lot of time to kill. The Hyatt offers a really great deal on a day use pass for those who would rather spend their time in a hotel room than roaming around the airport.

Your family could swim in the pool, shower up in the room, or even take a nap before you head to the gate for your trip home. You can find more information about a day stay at the Hyatt here .

Disney Shuttle to Port Canaveral

My family and I had purchased round trip transfers on the Disney transportation buses that leave from the airport. Staying at the Hyatt allowed us to have really easy access to the airport transportation area at Orlando International Airport.

The morning of our cruise, we ordered room service so that we could eat in the hotel room while we got organized. Once we were packed and ready to go, we made the short walk down to the area where the Disney shuttles pick you up.

Disney Cruise Ground Transportation

A really great perk when staying at the Hyatt is that they will pick up your luggage from your room and put it on the bus for you. We requested this service during our initial check-in at the Hyatt, and they gave us instructions at the front desk.

It was so nice not to have to worry about dragging a ton of bags down to the shuttle ourselves! (We did make sure to leave cash on our bags in the room as a tip for the bellman.)

Goofy at Port Canaveral Disney Terminal

This whole process was so easy and seamless, and we were able to snag a spot on the first bus heading out that morning. Our Disney Cruise Line ground transportation even pulled up to the Port Canaveral cruise port right when it opened.

Travelers looking to enjoy every second of their cruise vacation will be glad to know that this is a great way to make sure you get to the port as early as possible. Sometimes, if you arrive at the port early enough, you can inquire about a room upgrade during cruise check in.

disney cruise concierge stateroom

For example, when we cruised out of Miami, my family and I were able to score an  upgrade at the port  from an interior cabin to a Concierge stateroom. Not only was this upgraded cruise cabin full of extra amenities, but the Concierge level perks added an extra special touch to our trip!

You can read all about the benefits to Concierge on a Disney cruise here. In that post, we detail all the amazing amenities and magical pixie dust we experienced while sailing in a Disney suite.

It’s important to note that you DO have to pay for this upgrade at the port. Disney Cruise Line doesn’t just hand them out. (Wouldn’t that be nice!) However, the cost of the room is far less than if you had originally booked it. So, you end up getting a huge discount on a much better cabin!

Disney Cruise and Stay

If you want to make your vacation even more special, you can create a Disney Land and Sea Package. This is where you add a stay at one of the Walt Disney World resort hotels to your Disney Cruise Line vacation.

To do this, Disney Cruise Line guests can contact Disney directly, or they can go through their travel agent. If you choose to add a hotel stay at Disney onto your Disney Cruise Line reservation, you still have access to super easy transportation options.

magic kingdom castle

Disney Cruise Line transportation will pick you up at your WDW hotel and transport you to Port Canaveral for your cruise. The great thing about booking a land and sea package is that Cape Canaveral is only about an hour drive from Lake Buena Vista. So, you don’t have far to travel at all!

While staying at one of the Disney Hotels , you can experience all the fun of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom Park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and Epcot before or after your cruise. We particularly like booking a Disney cruise and stay vacation when we do a short 3 or 4-night cruise out of Port Canaveral.

Pre Cruise Hotels in Other Disney Ports

Guests sailing on any of the ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet can book hotels and transportation through DCL. For example, in addition to a pre cruise hotel in Port Canaveral, we also booked a Disney hotel for a cruise out of the Port of Miami.

This worked the same way as mentioned above. After contacting Disney to add on a hotel stay with transportation in Miami, DCL arranged private transfers for us from the Miami International Airport to the Four Seasons Hotel.

Disney ship and Port Canaveral terminal with text Best Hotel for a Disney Cruise

The Four Seasons was the more expensive option of the two hotels Disney used in Miami. However, the price we paid for the Four Seasons through Disney was significantly lower than the room price for the general public.

This fabulous hotel was a great place to spend the night before a cruise. You can read our full review of the Four Seasons to gain even more information and tips on sailing out of Miami.

Final Thoughts on Best Disney Cruise Hotel near Port Canaveral

Overall we were so impressed with our stay at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport. They made our vacation feel like it began right after we landed at the airport. Our time at the Hyatt helped our trip run so smoothly, especially with a toddler in tow!

Although you can find hotels closer to Port Canaveral for your pre cruise stay, this hotel right inside the Orlando airport is super convenient! Plus, the peace of mind you get by using Disney ground transportation is priceless.

Additionally, we would even recommend the airport Hyatt if you’re traveling on other cruise lines since it’s one of the best hotels for convenience for those flying into the Orlando area. And it’s less than a 45 minute drive to the Port Canaveral cruise terminal!

We hope you have fun planning that magical adventure with all of your family members!

5 Pre-Cruise Stay Options From Port Canaveral

Our family doesn’t need a fairy godmother to make a cruise out of Port Canaveral or Tampa even more magical – we just opt for a pre-cruise stay in Orlando.

It’s easy: When we sail out of Port Canaveral (less than an hour away from Orlando) or Tampa (an hour and a half away from Orlando) on lines like Carnival, Disney, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean, we book a night or two (if time and budget allow) in a resort or hotel in Orlando. That way we eliminate worry and stress if there are flight delays or cancellations on the day of sailing (some of our family members live in New England and need to fly in to meet the cruise) and we are already relaxed when we start our cruise from Port Canaveral.

Orlando, often called “Theme Park Central,” has all manner of attractions for families and travelers of all ages including Walt Disney World, Sea World Orlando, Universal Orlando, water parks and cultural venues.

Here are five lodging options for families or groups of friends to consider pre-cruise in Orlando:

Port Canaveral

Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge | Photo: Disney World

(1) Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge  – Our last sailing out of Port Canaveral was a four-day cruise on the Disney Dream for our grandsons’ spring break. We stayed pre-cruise here and, as if by magic, now we had two vacations (but just one-time flight expenses for our family). The deluxe category resort offers 184 rustically-themed accommodations inspired in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest including studios, one-, two-, three-bedroom villas and waterfront cabins. The studios offer room for up to four guests, while the larger one- and two-bedroom villas and three-bedroom grand villas feature the comforts of home with full kitchens, expanded storage space for belongings and private patios or balconies with scenic views. The 26 waterfront Cascade Cabins feature two-bedrooms and two-baths, sleep up to eight and include a full kitchen, flat-panel televisions, a washer and dryer, a hidden pull-down bed featuring artwork of Chip and Dale, a built-in hot tub on the porch, and an indoor/outdoor fireplace. A free water taxi ride away is Magic Kingdom Park, and the resort offers bus access to other Disney parks and water parks.Resort amenities include a new pool and shared access to Wilderness Lodge facilities. Lodging here and in other Disney resorts offers Extra Magic Hours in Disney parks (extra time in the parks before they open to the general public and after they close to the general public).

(2)   The All-Star Music Resort is a value category hotel at Walt Disney World that features two-bedroom/two-bath Family Suites. The 215 Family Suites sleep six and feature a master bedroom, kitchenette with microwave, coffeemaker and small refrigerator (to save time and money with quick breakfasts, snacks and other meals). When we did not want to bother with fixing meals – particularly dinners when we returned tired from the parks – we patronized the resort’s Intermission Food Court offering salads, soups, pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers and other popular fare as well as a big screen television showing cartoons to keep the kids entertained during meals. When we called it a day, we had two 27″ flat-screen televisions at our disposal. The resort is located within the Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park resort area and features free bus transportation to Disney parks and attractions.

The Embassy Suites Orlando Airport by Hilton | Photo: Embassy Suites by Hilton

(3)   The Embassy Suites Orlando Airport by Hilton is a moderate-price category hotel , practical for families or groups of friends as its accommodations are all suites with bedroom (king-size bed or two queen-size), living area with double sofa-bed, and kitchenette with mini-refrigerator and microwave. Amenities include outdoor swimming pool and spa, fitness room, restaurant, free breakfast buffet each morning and complimentary evening reception. Another plus is a free airport shuttle. A package is offered that includes airport shuttle to the hotel, shuttle to your cruise ship and shuttle back to Orlando airport after the cruise.

(4) The Walt Disney World Swan And Dolphin . This is a deluxe two-hotel resort: the Swan is a Westin and the Dolphin is a Sheraton , from which you can walk to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios (or take a free launch to each of those parks, and there is free bus transportation to other Disney parks and attractions). It offers family rooms and a variety of suites. Amenities include Westin Heavenly Beds (in the Swan), Mandara Spa, five swimming pools, two health clubs, tennis courts, nearby golf, Extra Magic Hours in Disney Parks and18 restaurants and lounges. Among these is the Garden Grove Café, ideal for families as it features appearances by Disney characters such as the chipmunks Chip and Dale and Pluto at dinner nightly and for breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. The restaurant has a park-like ambiance and a 25-foot tree adorned with lanterns and lights as its centerpiece. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Buffet-style dinners include unlimited prime rib, half roasted chicken and cedar plank salmon, vegetables, soups, salads and desserts –on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays there is a special seafood buffet featuring Maine lobster, snow crab legs and N.Y. strip roast among other dishes.

(5) The Cabana Bay Beach Resort  is a moderate-price category hotel onsite at Universal Orlando . The hotel features retro-style rooms and suites and its architecture and design are inspired by Florida beach resorts of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Family suites have 430 square feet of living space and sleep up to six people with two queen beds and pull-out sofa. A compartmentalized bathroom has a sliding privacy partition so three people can use it at once. The suites also have a kitchenette with mini-refrigerator, microwave and sink. Resort amenities include a food court, two swimming pools, a lazy river, and a bowling alley. Guests here and at other Universal Orlando hotels can enter Universal’s parks an hour before the public and skip the regular lines at popular attractions with the free Universal Express Unlimited.

Pre-Cruise Hotel Review: Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront near Port Canaveral

When cruising out of Port Canaveral, it’s convenient, and often more relaxing, to get a hotel in Cocoa Beach the night before you sail.  We’ve stayed at multiple hotels near the port, but we keep going back to one of them, Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront.  Let’s look at what frequently makes this hotel the right choice for us, so you can see if it is right for your next trip.

Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront Location - Close to Port Canaveral

The hotel is located at 1550 N Atlantic Ave in Cocoa Beach, FL.  This puts it less than six miles from Port Canaveral’s cruise terminals.  It’s also, importantly, on the ocean side of the island, which means it’s on the beach, and you can walk from the downstairs lobby and restaurants, right onto the sand and into the water.

pre cruise stay and shuttle to port canaveral

Cocoa Beach is on a thin barrier island - so you’ve got water just a couple hundred feet (or less) from each side of the main drag, Atlantic Avenue.  It’s bordered to the north by the city of Cape Canaveral, which is very small.  In fact, things blend pretty seamlessly from Cocoa Beach, to Cape Canaveral, to the port.  While there are accommodations on the mainland, it’s far more relaxing (and pretty) to stay in Cocoa Beach and enjoy what, to this Florida native, feels like “old Florida.”

You can see more about why I love this area on my post on TouringPlans.com: Benefits of Sailing out of Port Canaveral

Getting There

The hotel is about 50 miles east of MCO (the largest of the city’s airports), and about 60 miles from Walt Disney World.  You can get to the area e ither by renting a car, taking an Uber, or arranging private transport.  Shuttle services exist, but they often aren't idea.  Shuttles operate on their own schedule, not yours, and may have stops for guests going to different destinations.  Additionally, they frequently charge per passenger, which can get steep.  Your travel agent can help arrange private transportation.

pre cruise stay and shuttle to port canaveral

One thing you should note, as I know it’s a popular question, is that the Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront does not offer a complimentary shuttle to the nearby cruise port - and I don’t think this is something that most guests should care about.  Why?  Hotel shuttles run on their schedule, not yours.  When you’re looking at a hotel that’s this close to the port, a ride via Uber is only about $15, so you’ll limit your choices, and potentially pay more, if looking only at hotels with shuttle service.  In fact, in one of my first YouTube videos years ago I discussed a similar consideration for Park & Cruise packages at hotels.

Amenities at Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront

If you’re just needing a place to lay your head the night before sailing, then you probably don’t need much, but even when using the hotel largely for this reason, I found they had a lot to offer.  While we didn't take advantage of the hotel's meeting rooms or fitness center, I’ve definitely tried out the hotel’s food and beverage options.

You’ll find Cool Beans coffee shop (serving Starbucks products and other snacks) in the lobby, which is excellent to pep you up when one of you is raring to go for that pre-cruise beach walk and the other still needs more sleep.

pre cruise stay and shuttle to port canaveral

Right next to that is Gilberto’s Gelato & Creamery if you’re looking for something sweet.

pre cruise stay and shuttle to port canaveral

The whole lobby is actually quite nice, with lots of comfortable seating, a business center, and, like all things in this part of Florida, a rocket.

pre cruise stay and shuttle to port canaveral

On the first floor opposite the lobby is Salt Restaurant (and the associated Salt Lounge). This is one of the high points, as I’ve often found that the food at even decent hotels is just…meh.  Salt has some great items and uses fantastic quality ingredients.  For example, my breakfast came with a fruit plate that wasn’t just canned fruits in a bowl, or a ton of melon and three grapes, but really fresh cut fruit, including pineapple, citrus, and strawberries.

pre cruise stay and shuttle to port canaveral

If you’re a Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond member, then you’ll enjoy a generous daily credit for food and beverage, which you can use at Salt.  If looking to spend some time outdoors, though, you can also use that credit at Longboards Tiki Beach Grille, a large tiki bar near the Hilton’s pool, which serves cocktails, beer , frozen drinks, as well as a variety of food - though I don’t think I’ve ever eaten here.  I definitely have enjoyed the drinks, and it stays open through the evening, which we liked.  During the rare-but-lovely cool Florida nights, they even have fire pits to keep you warm.

The nearby pool area has a good number of loungers for laying out in the sun.  While not very large, I also didn’t ever see the pool or this space fill up.  So, don’t expect a water-park experience at all, but if you want to lay around and cool off, but not in the ocean, then this will certainly fit the bill.

From the tiki bar and pool area you can walk out onto the boardwalk and enjoy some time on the beach.  Cocoa Beach is among my favorite stretches of Florida’s coast, as beaches are wide, quiet, and have very soft sand.

It’s a gorgeous place to take a stroll in the evening, too.  At night you might even catch a ship on the horizon - but if there isn’t enough of a breeze, you may also catch a lot of mosquito bites, so keep that in mind.

When inside the property, there is excellent WiFi available throughout the public spaces and rooms.  As someone who often works right up to embarkation (or even after I board), this has been handy, and I’ve enjoyed being able to get things done at the desk in my room, or down by Salt Lounge.

Rooms at Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront

All rooms feature a large TV, desk/vanity with extra outlets, a sitting area, a bed, a wardrobe, and a pretty standard but small hotel bathroom.  In some rooms (all those I recall staying in at least), there is small area approaching the bathroom that is a handy place to get ready or store other toiletries.

The decor is modern and understated - not an over-the-top beach motif.  While we have found the typical stack of menus and property guides, on our more recent stay they did have a QR code with room service menus, which I preferred to extra clutter.

On that recent stay we enjoyed a test cruise on Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas - Read our Mariner Live Blog & More

I’ve never requested any special rooms on our stays at this property, and we’ve always found accommodations to be comfortable and clean.  The beds don’t have the best mattresses I’ve slept in at a hotel, but they’re at least as good, if not better, than those at other nearby properties we’ve stayed out.  While not something I necessarily seek out in a hotel, I do appreciate that the rooms are very well lit.

pre cruise stay and shuttle to port canaveral

If you’ll be spending some time at the resort during the day, then it may be worth inquiring about rooms that face the ocean, rather than those facing the parking lot or adjacent properties.  I once had a room at the end of the hall, which did mean an extra window, but since it was facing another hotel, it didn’t serve much purpose.

pre cruise stay and shuttle to port canaveral

The rooms are carpeted, which is something I’m often hesitant about - but the carpet has always been clean, and the interior corridors probably help.  In terms of size, I'd say you'd have absolutely no issue with a party that has a lot of luggage in tow (say, for a back-to-back cruise).  We were even able to stow some bags in the wardrobe, with clothes hanging above them.  Some of the rooms do have sofa-beds, and adjoining rooms as well as suites are also available.

I love the Cocoa Beach area, so while Port Everglades is much closer to where we live, I never think twice about heading north, sailing from Port Canaveral, and trying to squeeze in at least a few relaxing hours in town the day before we sail.  The one thing that’s bothered me is that there aren’t as many hotels - or at least hotels I’ve liked, as one would expect.  The Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront, however, has never let me down.  I know I can get a clean room, good food, and enjoy a nice stroll on the beach.

pre cruise stay and shuttle to port canaveral

Cruise lines seem to feel the same way and book many guests here - you may even see cruise line representatives on hand.  I prefer to ask my TouringPlans travel agent to help me with the planning, because sometimes booking the hotel with your cruise stay can represent a savings, and other times it may cost even more.

If after this review you’re thinking that maybe you should tack on some extra time in Cocoa Beach, I don’t think it’s a bad idea, and while you’re at it, check out the nearby Kennedy Space Center.  You may find yourself in the mood when enjoying Florida's Space Coast.

15+ Orlando Hotels With Cruise & Airport Shuttles to Port Canaveral

If you are flying into Orlando for a cruise from Port Canaveral, then you are going to need to figure out how to get to your ship. The port is about 45 minutes away from the Orlando International Airport (MCO), which is the closest major airport to the cruise terminals.

Cruise ship docked at Port Canaveral

The good news is that as one of the busiest ports in America, there are a number of options to get to the cruise terminal. From Uber to shuttles, you can easily make your way to the Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area .

But perhaps no way of getting to the port is as convenient as an Orlando hotel near the airport with a cruise shuttle. As a way of winning your business, many spots near the airport offer a free shuttle to their hotel after you arrive from your flight. And then after your stay, they can help you with a shuttle ride to Port Canaveral (for a fee).

This way you don’t have to worry how you are going to get to the hotel from the airport or to the cruise ship on the day you sail. (A number of hotels in Port Canaveral also offer cruise shuttles if you prefer to stay closer to your ship.)

How Airport and Cruise Shuttles Work for Orlando Hotels

Airport Shuttles : Most of the hotels below work in a similar way. They offer free shuttles between the airport and the hotel that run either 24 hours per day, or at all times except for a few hours in the middle of the night.

You’ll want to get all your luggage and only then call the hotel. They will direct you on where to go to catch your ride. Since all the hotels below are right near the Orlando airport, the ride should only take 5-10 minutes.

Port Canaveral Shuttles : Given the distance, the vast majority of hotels don’t have their own shuttle to the port. Instead, cruise passengers can arrange a ride with a third-party shuttle provider if staying at a hotel near the airport. So you book the hotel and then contact the shuttle company to book your ride . The shuttle will pick you up right at the hotel to take you to the port. They will also give you a ride back for your flight when you return.

Expect the shuttle to run roughly $50-70 per person, round trip. The following companies offer pickup at the hotels near the airport.

  • Cortrans Shuttle
  • Port Canaveral Quick Shuttle
  • Danica Transportation

For hotels that offer shuttles through a package, you may have to book through the hotel website. Review ratings come from Google and are rounded to the nearest half point.

Port Canaveral Hotels With Orlando Airport Shuttles

The advantage of staying in Port Canaveral is that you are closer to your ship. The drawback is that it’s a longer day if you are flying into Orlando and then heading out to the port area. Still, if you want to stay in Port Canaveral, there are a handful of hotels that offer shuttles between the Orlando airport and the hotel. They also offer a shuttle to the cruise port.

Radisson Resort at the Port As with many hotels in the area, the Radisson caters to cruisers. But not every hotel can offer the resort style feel and attractions of the Radisson, such as the large pool with waterfall.

As well, the Radisson offers a “Fly, Stay, and Cruise” package that can get you from the Orlando airport to the hotel, a night’s stay, and transportation to the port for two people. Additional guests are $45 each. It also includes your ride back to the airport after your cruise.

  • Distance to Port: 1.5 miles

Beachside Hotel & Suites Situated in the heart of Cocoa Beach, Beachside Hotel & Suites is right near the water and only a 10-minute ride to the cruise terminal. In other words, the location is ideal for anyone wanting to spend some time in the area before their cruise. The hotel’s website says it offers airport shuttle and cruise shuttle packages. This includes a “Fly, Snooze & Cruise” deal that includes round trip service to/from the Orlando airport and a transfer to the terminal.

  • Distance to Port: 4.5 miles

Cocoa Beach Suites This hotel is a short 2-minute walk to the beach, and you don’t even have to have a car to get to your room. If you fly into Orlando International, then the airport offers transportation options. Specifically, they offer a “Snooze and Cruise” deal . With this package you get transportation for two from the airport (Orlando, but Melbourne and Sanford are also available), transportation to the ship, and then back to the airport.

First Time Cruise: Concierge Question

My family is going on a cruise, we booked concierge. I know that includes getting to board the ship first, which I find to be one of the most important perks. My question is about my stay and transportation. I’m debating between the Hyatt MCO and Riviera. When they assign bus pick up times from Riviera, do they take into account if someone has the first boarding group, and would like to board right at 11? Or will I run the risk of getting picked up late and miss this perk?

Any tips would be appreciate. Traveling with 3 kids all under 10.

@gingerSnaps543222

@lolabear_la

can you friends help with this?

I have never used Disney transportation to get to the port. I always rent a car or a limo service (not an actual limo but it’s via an official limo service). I am way too much a control freak to leave my port arrival time to Disney and it’s transportation LOL. But yes you get to board first and you have your own waiting area. We often run to the slide, swimsuits on and prepared.

Never done concierge but our experience taking the bus from MCO Hyatt was that by getting to the lobby early enough to get booked on the first shuttle we were at the port before boarding started. That was December 2022. Our only experience with the shuttle from a WDW resort was pre-Covid. That time our bus didn’t pick us up until much later and we arrived at the port well after boarding started.

If your priority is to get be very early and making use of your concierge privileges to board first, the DCL shuttle may (but also may not quite) get you there that early. So if it were me, I would arrange for transportation that will aim to arrive by or just a few minutes before your concierge boarding time (If going out of Port Canaveral I would guess that would be 11am).

We used the DCL shuttle to get to Port Canaveral from MCO in February and had a low boarding group (3) and early end port arrival time (11:15am), and this was our timing for the shuttle:

  • 10:35am shuttle left MCO (we were on the 2nd bus with the first having left by 10:20am)
  • 11:23am arrived to port
  • 11:34 through security
  • 11:39 BG 1 & 2 called
  • 11:40 BG 3 called
  • 11:55 aboard

There were a handful of other DCL shuttles pulling up after ours did and I imagine they were some/most of the resort shuttles, and being a non-concierge guest, we were very pleased with the process & how quickly we got on compared to our previous 2 cruises. But if I had concierge, I would want to be ready & waiting in the terminal by 10:45am/11am.

I have seen circulated along various social media channels a list of priority for those taking a shuttle from Hyatt MCO and if you have status that gets you boarded earlier, they do have shuttles that leave earlier for those groups BUT they also make sure to fill a bus before they send it off so they won’t necessarily guarantee any particular time. Also more recently, the shuttles can’t arrive to the terminal before a certain time (I believe it’s 11:15am) since the port opening time got adjusted back earlier this year, so another reason I would arrange for a private transfer aiming to get me to port between 10:45-10:55am so you can be all queued up to get in for that early perk.

And if the ship isn’t quite ready for you yet, concierge does have a very nice lounge in the terminal too (at least in Port Canaveral) with plenty of seating (more comfortable than the regular terminal) and even a few tables and a door to the outside overlook where you can step out and get fantastic photos of the ship while you wait. (We got to see the lounge briefly when we were doing back to back cruises and they used that as a holding area for back to back cruisers after taking us off the ship but before the terminal was quite ready for us to be sitting in & obviously before any concierge had arrived).

My concierge guests are booking private transportation options through DCL. Shuttle is not the only option, you just have to call and get a quote. From either MCO Hyatt or Riviera would work! You will love concierge. Make sure you know when you’re able to send in your requests, etc, because it’s first come first serve

Should You Take Disney Cruise Line Transportation? What You Need to Know.

Heading on a Disney Cruise soon? Here’s why you should consider taking Disney Cruise transportation to the port.

Guests headed onboard a Disney Cruise from Port Canaveral in Florida are probably facing some exciting decisions as they get ready to sail. From what excursions they should book to any onboard extras, there are so many ways to personalize your Disney Cruise Line vacation.

One thing that most people don’t consider is transportation to the port. How are you getting from Orlando International Airport or Walt Disney World to Port Canaveral and back? Well, one option to consider is to utilize official Disney transportation services.  We’re going to break down whether you should take Disney Cruise Transportation on your next sailing and what the alternatives are.

Distance to Port Canaveral from Orlando

Port Canaveral is located on the East Coast of Florida and is parallel with Orlando. With that said, it is a little bit of a hike from the port to the Greater Orlando Area, so keep that in mind when visiting.

Orlando International to Port Canaveral

Orlando International and Port Canaveral are about 47 miles apart. Therefore, you can expect a ride of about 45 minutes back and forth. That is assuming there is no traffic, so always add on some extra time to account for Orlando traffic.

Walt Disney World to Port Canaveral

The Walt Disney World Resort and Port Canaveral are about 59 miles apart. The ride between the two is approximately one hour back and forth. Again, the closer you get to Disney, you could face some extensive traffic, so always prepare ahead of time if you are leaving for your cruise.

Transportation Options to Port Canaveral

There are a few ways to travel from Port Canaveral to Orlando. We’ll break down these different ways for you.

Whether you are headed to Port Canaveral from Orlando International or decided to stay at Disney World for a few days before, one option is taking an Uber or Lyft to the Port. As we previously mentioned, Port Canaveral is a hike from both the airport and the parks, so the cost will reflect that. You can expect an Uber or Lyft to cost you around $100 or more given the distance.

Official Disney Cruise Line Transportation

The other option that guests can consider when embarking on a Disney Cruise is official Disney Cruise Line Transportation. This transportation will have you picked up at either the airport or at your Disney Resort and brought to the terminal in Port Canaveral. The transportation cost is $39/per person. To discuss specific options for your cruise and travel itinerary, call Disney Cruise Line at (800) 951-3532.

Benefits of Disney Cruise Line Transportation

Earlier boarding group/port arrival.

One of the best parts about using Disney Cruise Line Transportation is that you arrive at the port early and therefore, are given an earlier boarding group to get onto your ship. That means your vacation starts early! These boarding groups are usually highly coveted and people will start their check-in exactly on the date it opens. But if you use a Disney Transfer, they will take care of that for you so you aren’t waiting around.

Easy to Book and Guaranteed Pick Up

Booking a Disney Transfer is quite easy. Once you make your final payment for your cruise, you are able to book on the Disney Cruise Line app or website. You’ll be prompted to add transportation at either the beginning of your cruise, the end of your cruise, or both.

Luggage Transfer

You are on vacation so don’t stress about carrying your luggage around. By simply adding your Disney Cruise Line luggage tag onto your luggage prior to pickup, you won’t have to worry about luggage at all. If you are staying at a Disney World resort hotel or at the Hyatt at Orlando International, a representative from Disney Cruise Line will come early in the morning to pick up your bags. It’s as simple as that… you’ll find them onboard in your room.

If you are flying on the day of your cruise, Disney Cruise Line will pick up your luggage from baggage claim and bring it to the Port so that once again, you’ll find your luggage onboard. We love this perk and think this is totally worth the process.

Entertainment on Board

When being picked up by Disney Cruise Line Transportation, you’ll have access to Disney entertainment onboard your bus. If you remember Disney’s Magical Express Service , you’ll receive similar entertainment to that. From Disney cartoons to information about the port, it’s a great way to keep the magic flowing right into your Disney Cruise.

Downsides of Disney Cruise Line Transportation

As we mentioned, the Disney Transfer costs $39/per person. If you are a family of 4, you are looking at a cost of over $150 to use the service. While that might not be intriguing for some, it’s something to think about before you click that book button.

Multiple Stops

If you are being picked up at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel, keep in mind that you will most likely be stopping at multiple resorts around WDW. Since there’s probably many guests who are being picked up, they will try to get as many people as possible onto the transfer. That means you’ll spend more time onboard the bus.

You Have No Say in Pick-Up Time

If you are someone who doesn’t like the idea of being told when it’s time to leave, this service might not be for you. That’s because you have no say in the pick-up time for the bus. Disney will schedule this for you according to where you are being picked up and when they have the most demand.

Should You Take It?

While we broke down both the pros and cons of Disney Transportation, we highly recommend that you take the Disney Transportation. From not worrying about luggage to receiving an earlier boarding group, the pros outweigh the few cons we can find.

FAQs of Disney Cruise Line Transportation

What’s the cost of disney cruise line transportation .

Disney Cruise Line Transportation costs $39 per person per way.

Can you book Disney Cruise Line Transportation if you are flying into Orlando Airport the day of?

Absolutely! That’s one of the best parts! You’ll find a Disney Curise Line representative in the terminal ready to take you over to the port. But, remember, you must book this ahead of time.

Will they pick you up at a Disney World Resort or at the Hyatt at Orlando Airport?

Guests love the fact that Disney Cruise Line Transportation can whisk you from the parks to the ship. Sometimes people even stay at the Hyatt at Orlando Airport and you can also receive the service if you are staying there too.

What happens if you get to the port before your port arrival time?

By booking a Disney Cruise Line transfer, you’ll receive an earlier port time and boarding group to accommodate you if you arrive early. You won’t have to wait around outside if you get there earlier than expected.

Is it easy to book?

It sure is! Just visit the Disney Cruise Line app or use the Disney Cruise Line website after your final payment is submitted to purchase this add-on.

6 Best Cruises Out Of Port Canaveral

By Zachary Laks | Published on April 9, 2024

It's time to start planning your next big vacation. Whether you're looking for a weekend getaway, a family-friendly vacation or an extended voyage, you'll find cruises out of Port Canaveral, Florida that tick all your boxes.

When considering one of the cruises out of Port Canaveral, plan extra time before and after your sailing to soak up all the fun that the area has to offer. There's so much to do in Orlando that you could stay for several days and never get bored — music to your ears if you're traveling with children. One of the best things about Orlando cruises is that you have your choice of theme parks to round out your vacation. They're expansive and immersive escapes into playful worlds, not unlike a great cruise. I love tacking on an extra day or two at an Orlando theme park, usually before my cruise departs. I always appreciate the days of racking up thousands of steps traversing a theme park before boarding a cruise, where I know I'll be able to lounge on a deck or relax in a hot tub.

Not far from Port Canaveral, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is a great place to spend a day admiring the vast scope of NASA. The center offers one-of-a-kind immersion into space exploration, including the chance to strap into a rocket launch simulator for an adrenaline-pumping thrill.

For those seeking a more peaceful retreat before boarding their cruises out of Orlando, Port Canaveral is near the white sands of Cocoa Beach. Spend the day enjoying calm, low waves — great for year-round swimming, learning to surf and kayaking alongside manatees and dolphins. Or take a seat on an airboat ride through the wetlands for encounters with alligators and, depending on the season, bald eagles, herons and osprey.

Ready to book a cruise to Port Canaveral? Here are the six best cruises from Port Canaveral.

Serene Clear Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral, Florida

1. Best For A Long Weekend

Coco Beach Club Beach Cabanas Mom and Daughter Tanning, Perfect Day at Coco Cay

Set to launch in the summer of 2024, Utopia of the Seas ℠ will be the sixth Oasis Class ship, Royal Caribbean's class of ships packed with adventure and entertainment. The new ship will focus on three- and four-night cruises from its year-round home port in Port Canaveral, with onboard upgrades that include reimagined pool decks, a Giovanni's℠ Italian Kitchen that spans two decks (try the osso buco!) and the new Pesky Parrot tiki bar, serving fruity cocktails on the Royal Promenade. This itinerary  to the Bahamas on Utopia of the Seas ℠ is the best for a long weekend exploring the highlights of The Bahamas, with a day in Nassau followed by a day at Perfect Day at CocoCay , Royal Caribbean's private island destination.

2. Best For Beach Lovers

Colorful buildings along the coast, Willemstad, Curacao

This exquisite itinerary to the Southern Caribbean on Adventure of the Seas ® routes you to the farthest corner of the Caribbean for some of its best beaches. Sailing on the Adventure of the Seas ® for eight nights from Port Canaveral, you'll stop in ports such as Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curaçao; and Kralendijk, Bonaire. Each port will welcome you with easily accessible, powdery sand beaches primed for world-class swimming, snorkeling and diving. You'll have your pick of 86 dive sites at Bonaire National Marine Park with more than 350 recorded fish species known to frequent the waters.

3. Best For A European Adventure

Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Boats Docked

Transatlantic sailings make for such a special vacation, and this 13-night Transatlantic Azores itinerary on Adventure of the Seas ® packs four remarkable ports into the crossing. You'll cruise the Atlantic for the first nine days, living it up on a ship that is packed with ways to play and relax. You'll arrive in idyllic Tenerife in the Canary Islands on the tenth day. Immerse yourself in the local Spanish culture by spending part of your day exploring the Museum of Nature and Archaeology or the Basilica de Candelaria shrine. The cruise continues to Lanzarote, Canary Islands, where picture-perfect colonial mansions line cobblestone streets, then on to the adventurous mountain island of Madeira, Portugal before completing your journey in the charming streets of Lisbon, Portugal.

4. Best For Private Island Getaways

Hamilton, Bermuda Horseshoe Bay

This unique Port Canaveral cruise itinerary  to Bermuda and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Adventure of the Seas ® visits both of Royal Caribbean's private destinations, where paradise is just steps away from the ship. On an eight-night journey, this ship will first cruise to Labadee, the cruise line's private peninsula adventure park and beach. Soak up this private spot by relaxing on the beach, enjoy the destination's signature cocktail specialty, the Labadoozie (a fruity rum cocktail) or opt for a zip line ride that will send you soaring over the ocean. The next private island destination is Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's oasis in The Bahamas. Here you'll port within short distance of pristine beaches, a thrilling water park and countless ways to unwind beneath the palm trees. There's also a stop in Bermuda, home to pink-sand beaches and rum swizzles.

5. Best For Foodies

Authentic Cozumel Shrimp Tacos

Foodies will delight in fresh, authentic Caribbean dishes on this itinerary to the Western Caribbean and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Wonder of the Seas ® . In Cozumel, Mexico you'll find lunch specialties featuring locally caught seafood, often grouper and red snapper fried on a plate with rice and a vibrant salad. In Roatán, Honduras, ceviche is the local favorite, along with fried plantains and baleadas — tacos made with soft flour tortillas. The ship's final port is Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico, a charming fishing village where the salbutes  (fried corn tortillas topped with shredded chicken) make a great appetizer to the catch of the day, served hot off the grill.

6. Best For Variety

Aruba ATV Off Road Track, Oranjestad, Aruba

This seven-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary  on Wonder of the Seas ® is a top choice if you want to change things up and go on a unique adventure in each port. Your first destination is Philipsburg, St. Maarten, where you can tour the island on an ATV, sample rum from a local distillery or end the day with a sunset horseback ride on the beach. When the ship arrives in the U.S. Virgin Islands at Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, head straight to Magens Bay, often short-listed as one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Or dive into a snorkeling tour to get face time with some sea turtles and coral reefs. On your final stop, Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay, everyone in your group can enjoy a seemingly endless array of activities. If the beach is calling, grab a spot on one of the many cushy beach loungers close to a bar serving up island cocktails that go great with the ocean view. For the adventurous ones, Daredevil's Peak® waterslide is North America's tallest and promises an adrenaline rush.

Encompassing ports of paradise and incredible culture, Orlando cruises are the ideal vacation getaway. Start planning your island escape from Port Canaveral now .
