New & Updated 2022 DGPT MPO and FPO TOP 10 Rankings!
The end of June brings the 2022 disc golf season to the virtual midway point, and it’s time for a power rankings update. Here’s my updated top-10 selections in MPO and FPO (players had to be in the top 25 in the DGPT season points standings to be considered).

Disc Golf Pro Tour 2022 MPO and FPO TOP 10 Rankings – June UPDATE
___________________________
2022 April UPDATE
About one-third of the 2022 Disc Golf Pro Tour season is in the books as we enter May, and it seems like a good time to take stock of what has happened thus far, and try to figure out who the top 10 MPO and FPO players have been so far this season.
The DGPT points standings don’t tell everything. Several players have played a partial schedule and produced strong results, and got a “bump” up my rankings as a result.
Mixed Professional Open TOP 10 Rankings
Honorable mention (in order): Thomas Gilbert, Kevin Jones, Kyle Klein.

Female Professional Open TOP 10 Rankings
(Note: From the seventh spot on, this got pretty tricky — definitely trickier than the MPO rankings. A number of players have played top-10 quality disc golf but haven’t played as many events as those ahead of them in the standings. How you weigh quality vs. quantity will make a significant difference in how you’d rank them. I generally valued quality over quantity. Also, a handful of players are not signed up for the next several DGPT events, so these rankings could get a big shakeup in the next couple months.)
Honorable mention (in order): Ella Hansen, Holyn Handley, Lisa Fajkus, Jessica Weese, Alexis Mandujano, Sarah Hokom, Emily Beach, Maria Oliva, Eveliina Salonen.

LIV Golf receives major OWGR boost that could shift PGA Tour civil war
LIV Golf are yet to receive accreditation from the Official World Golf Ranking but another 54-hole circuit in the Clutch Pro Tour have been given the green light for ranking points
- 22:53, 25 Apr 2024
- Updated 07:49, 26 Apr 2024
LIV Golf's Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) hopes may well have been given a boost on Thursday, after the ranking system awarded OWGR-sanctioning to a fellow 54-hole circuit in the Clutch Pro Tour.
The Clutch Pro Tour - known as the Mizuno Next Gen Series is a development tour offering a pathway for professional golfers in England, feeding into the Challenge Tour, one level below the DP World Tour. And despite its 54-hole format, the circuit's 36-hole cut and routes to other tours has seen it receive the green light from OWGR.
"After a 17-month-long application process, in which the Tour worked continuously toward the standards required to become an OWGR Eligible Golf Tour," the ranking system said in a statement.

"The Clutch Pro Tour will become an OWGR Eligible Golf Tour from Week 17, week ending 28th April 2024, and its official Tier 1 tournaments, in accordance with OWGR regulations, will be eligible for inclusion in the ranking. The Clutch Pro Tour provides access to its official tournaments, conducted over 54 holes with a 36-hole cut, via its 2024 qualifying series held in the UAE and, for its 2025 season, an annual open qualifying school.
"It also provides local and regional players opportunities, culminating with a no-cut, season-ending Championship. As such, the Clutch Pro Tour is in keeping with long-standing OWGR Eligibility and Format Criteria. The Clutch Pro Tour has played a pivotal role in the United Kingdom – particularly since the closure of the EuroPro Tour. Its organization has provided the continuation of playing opportunities and pathways for players to progress to the European Challenge Tour and the DP World Tour."
For those in charge of the LIV setup, OWGR's decision shows their 54-hole format will not prove a hurdle if they were to re-launch a bid for ranking status. Their problem does however seem to lie with LIV events including no cut line, as well as their promotion and relegation process, with the league's roster often coined a 'closed shop'.
For all the latest on news, politics, sports, and showbiz from the USA, go to The Mirror US .
Earlier this year the breakaway league revealed they had given up on their hunt for ranking points, with LIV CEO Greg Norman slamming the OWGR system in a letter to his playing membership. Per Sports Illustrated, the letter from Norman read: "We have made significant efforts to fight for you and ensure your accomplishments are recognised within the existing ranking system.
"Unfortunately, OWGR has shown little willingness to productively work with us... The rankings are structured to penalise anyone who has not played regularly on an 'Eligible Tour' with the field ratings disproportionately rewarding play on the PGA Tour,” Norman went on.
"This is illustrated by the fact only four players inside the top 50 are not PGA Tour players Jon Rahm (3), Tyrrell Hatton (17), Brooks Koepka (30) and Cam Smith (45) and by the precipitous decline of LIV players generally, notwithstanding extraordinary performances in LIV events.
“Even if LIV Golf events were immediately awarded points, the OWGR system is designed such that it would be functionally impossible for you to regain positions close to the summit of the ranking, where so many of you belong.” LIV players have seen their names tumble down the world rankings since making the Saudi switch in the summer of 2022.
At this month's Masters, just two members from the Saudi-backed series earned their spot at Augusta via their world rankings, but were two of the league's newest signings in Tyrrell Hatton and Adrian Meronk. In total 13 LIV stars competed in the opening major of the year, five less than the year prior.

How Disc Golf Pro Tour Points Work & Why They Matter
In 2023, disc golfers can win Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) points at six types of events:
- DGPT Elite
- DGPT Elite+
- DGPT Playoffs
- Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Majors
- DGPT Silver
- PDGA Euro Tour events awarding DGPT points
Tap or click on any event type above to learn its exact point structure.
The maximum number of points a player could earn on the 2023 DGPT is 1,650. Those points would come from their...
- Eight highest points earnings from Elite and Elite+ Events (900 maximum points, 13 eligible events)
- Three highest points earnings from Silver Events or eligible PDGA Euro Tour events (150 maximum points, 17 eligible events, but due to overlapping dates, a player could only participate in 15)
- Two highest points earnings from eligible PDGA Majors (300 maximum points, three eligible events)
- All points earned at DGPT Playoffs (300 maximum points, two eligible events)

Where to Learn About DGPT Events
Check out "All Disc Golf Pro Tour Events Explained" to learn more about all the types of events where players can earn DGPT points and others.
In the post you're reading now, we focus on the points players can win at each sort of event and what those points do for players, not the differences between each type of competition.
How Disc Golf Pro Tour Points Work: Elite Events
Every DGPT Elite event awards the following points to players who place in the top 50 of MPO and FPO:
If you're on mobile, swipe left/right on the table above to see all columns.
Every player who completes the tournament but finishes behind the player in 50th earns one tour point. If a player competes in more than eight combined DGPT Elite and Elite+ competitions, only their top eight finishes count toward their points total. This is a list of disc golf tournaments that are 2023 DGPT Elite Events :
How Disc Golf Pro Tour Points Work: Elite+ Events
Every DGPT Elite+ Event awards the following points to players who place in the top 50 of MPO and FPO:
Every player who completes the tournament but finishes behind the player in 50th earns 1.5 tour points. These totals are 50% more than the points awarded at Elite Events.
DGPT Elite+ Event points do not automatically count toward a player's DGPT points total. Combined, there will be 13 Elite and Elite+ Events (11 Elite and two Elite+). Of those 13 events, only the eight where players earn the most points count toward their 2023 season total.
This is a list of disc golf tournaments that are 2023 DGPT Elite+ Events :
How Disc Golf Pro Tour Points Work: DGPT Playoffs
Every DGPT Playoff awards the following DGPT points to players who place in the top 50 of MPO and FPO:
Every player who completes the tournament but finishes behind the player in 50th earns 1.5 tour points. These totals are 50% more than the points awarded at Elite Events. All finishes at Disc Golf Pro Tour Playoffs count toward players' tour points totals.
This is a list of disc golf tournaments that are 2023 DGPT playoffs :
How Disc Golf Pro Tour Points Work: PDGA Majors
Every PDGA Major awards the following DGPT points to players who place in the top 50 of MPO and FPO:
If you're on mobile, swipe left/right on the table above to see all columns
Every player who completes the tournament but finishes behind the player in 50th earns 1.5 tour points. These totals are 50% more than the points awarded at Elite Events. The DGPT has decided that no competitions occurring after its second Playoff (ending on September 17, 2023) will award DGPT tour points in 2023. This means neither the U.S. Disc Golf Championship nor the U.S. Women's Disc Golf Championship will count toward DGPT points despite being Majors. Players' top two finishes at PDGA Majors count toward their tour point totals.
This is a list of disc golf tournaments that are 2023 PDGA Majors that will award DGPT tour points in 2023 :
How Disc Golf Pro Tour Points Work: Silver
Every DGPT Silver Event awards the following DGPT points to players who place in the top 50 of MPO and FPO:
Every player who completes the tournament but finishes behind the player in 50th earns 0.5 tour points. These totals are 50% of the points awarded at Elite Events. A player's top three points earnings at Silver Events or eligible PDGA Euro Tour competitions (see next section) count toward their points total. Though there are 17 Silver and eligible Euro Tour events, the maximum number of them a competitor could play in 2023 is 15 due to overlapping dates on two weekends.
This is a list of disc golf tournaments that are DGPT Silver Events and will award points for 2023 :
How Disc Golf Pro Tour Points Work: PDGA Euro Tour Events Awarding DGPT Points
In 2023, six PDGA Euro Tour events will also award DGPT points. The points system is the same as Silver Events. Only a player's top three points earnings from Silver Events and/or eligible PDGA Euro Tour events will count toward their 2023 points total. There are 17 total Silver and Euro Tour competitions, but a player could only compete in a maximum of 15 due to overlapping dates on two weekends.

How Do Ties Affect Disc Golf Pro Tour Points?
21st = 29 points 22nd = 28 points 23rd = 27 points 29 + 28 + 27 = 84 84 ÷ 3 = 28
The player behind Leiviska, Queen, and Oakley received the points reserved for 24th place (26). The same math applies to Elite+ and Silver Events as well as PDGA Majors and DGPT Playoffs.
How Do Playoffs for First Place Affect DGPT Tour Points?
Under normal conditions, there can be no tie for first at a DGPT event. All players tied for the lead at the end of a tournament's normal rounds compete in a sudden-death playoff. The playoff winner is first place and earns the full points for that position. This could lead to two scenarios:
- A two-person playoff : The players compete in a sudden-death playoff. The player who wins gets solo first place and the player who loses gets solo second place, with both receiving the full points for those positions.
- A playoff with more than two players : The player who wins the playoff gets solo first place, and every player who does not win the playoff is tied for second – and gets the same number of points – regardless of if they remain in the playoff for longer than another non-winner.
The only exception to these rules governing first place ties is if a tournament must end early (the most likely reason for this to happen is dangerous weather conditions). Here, the DGPT points are awarded according to rule 1.09 D.2 from the Professional Disc Golf Association's Official Rules and Regulations, which states the following: "If a sudden-death playoff cannot be held during the last day of regularly scheduled rounds for the competition, the tie for first place will stand with the players declared co-champions and the cash and prizes for the ranked places split between the players." The rule also states that "[u]nder no circumstances should players be expected, or asked, to return on a day following the last day of the regularly scheduled rounds to finish the event." This all means that if two players are tied for first at a DGPT event that's cut short and there's no chance for a playoff before the tournament was previously scheduled to end, they share the first-place points using the point-splitting rules described earlier.
Why Disc Golf Pro Tour Points Matter
There are two big reasons Disc Golf Pro Tour Points are important for players. One is that points standings qualify players for Tour Cards , which make registering for DGPT tournaments easier and offer players other benefits while on tour. The second is that points standings determine seeding and qualification for the Tour Championship, which has offered some of the biggest purses in disc golf history in the last few years. Participation in the Tour Championship is also a way to earn a two-year Tour Card exemption.
Here are more details on those benefits:
- How DGPT points affect getting a DGPT Tour Card In 2023, the top 80 MPO and top 40 FPO players in tour points from the previous season's standings automatically received DGPT Tour Cards that provide access to early tournament registration, enhanced health and wellness services, access to better facilities at events, and more perks. In 2024, those numbers will remain the same and be based on 2023 tour points standings.
- How DGPT points affect DGPT Championship qualification and seeding in 2023 1. There are 32 MPO and 20 FPO spots available for the 2023 DGPT Championship. In either division, a maximum of 18 spots could be filled by the winners of any DGPT Elite, Elite+, or Playoff Event or the three PDGA Majors awarding DGPT points. Any spots not filled by an event winner will go to the players with the highest 2023 DGPT points total. 2. Seeding at the DGPT Championship will be determined entirely by DGPT points standings. More points equal a better seed. Seeds are important because 1) Seeds 1-24 in MPO and 1-12 in FPO receive "starting strokes" that can be subtracted from their scores in the Semifinals phase of the event, giving them an advantage over other competitors. Higher seeds also win in the event of a tie for advancement in the Semifinals. 3. Those who qualify and participate in the 2023 DGPT Championship automatically receive a two-year Tour Card exemptio n

OWGR Board announces ranking status for Europe's leading open access Clutch Pro Tour
T he Clutch Pro Tour, called the Mizuno Next Gen Series for promotional purposes, received its historic admission as an Eligible Tour to receive world ranking points on Thursday, April 25.
The news was announced by the Official World Golf Series on its social media profiles and website.
The process for the approval of the Clutch Pro Tour as one of the Eligible Tours to receive OWGR points was extended for 17 months. On this approval, OWGR Chairman Peter Dawson said (via website):
"This is a significant milestone for golf, and OWGR is deeply encouraged by the achievement and the continued efforts in developing the sport of golf in the United Kingdom.
"We look forward to watching the progress of the Clutch Pro Tour as it continues to play a key role in the development of players from the region."
The relevance of this fact is that the Clutch Pro Tour runs 54-hole tournaments, as does LIV Golf . What separates one from the other is that the Mizuno-sponsored circuit makes cuts after 36 holes and that all its players earn their card through various qualifying criteria.
This is not the first circuit operating 54-hole tournaments to be admitted as an OWGR Eligible Circuit. In 2023, the Liga de Golf Profesional Mexicana (Mexican Professional Golf Tour) received such status, even though its tournaments only consist of three rounds of 18 holes each.
What is the Clutch Pro Tour?
The Clutch Pro Tour is a third category circuit or mini tour emerged in the United Kingdom in 2019, and its first season was played in 2020. It has feeder tour status to the Challenge Tour, as its top three players earn full membership to the second-ranked circuit in Europe each year.
The Mizuno Next Gen Series is managed by the company Clutch Golf, which also has an amateur and a junior circuit. Moreover, the professional circuit has a second-tier circuit, which allows players to stay in action when they are unable to play on the main circuit, although only tournaments on the main circuit receive points toward the OWGR .
For the 2024 season, the main circuit has 17 tournaments (including the Tour Championship) and two unofficial tournaments scheduled. The second-tier circuit has 15 events scheduled. In both cases, the official calendar will run from May to September.

CLUTCH PRO TOUR
The Governing Board of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) today announces the inclusion of the Clutch Pro Tour into the OWGR System.
The Clutch Pro Tour provides access to its official tournaments, conducted over 54 holes with a 36-hole cut, via its 2024 qualifying series held in the UAE and, for its 2025 season, an annual open qualifying school. It also provides local and regional players opportunities, culminating with a no-cut, season-ending Championship. As such, the Clutch Pro Tour is in keeping with long-standing OWGR Eligibility and Format Criteria.
The Clutch Pro Tour has played a pivotal role in the United Kingdom – particularly since the closure of the EuroPro Tour. Its organization has provided the continuation of playing opportunities and pathways for players to progress to the European Challenge Tour and the DP World Tour.
“This is a significant milestone for golf, and OWGR is deeply encouraged by the achievement and the continued efforts in developing the sport of golf in the United Kingdom. We look forward to watching the progress of the Clutch Pro Tour as it continues to play a key role in the development of players from the region,” said Chairman Peter Dawson.
After a 17-month-long application process, in which the Tour worked continuously toward the standards required to become an OWGR Eligible Golf Tour, the Clutch Pro Tour will become an OWGR Eligible Golf Tour from Week 17, week ending 28th April 2024, and its official Tier 1 tournaments, in accordance with OWGR Regulations, will be eligible for inclusion in the Ranking.
