Renault 5 E-Tech Is a $27,000 Retro-Inspired EV Hatchback

Unfortunately, this smartly styled and practical electric Renault won't reach American shores, leaving us to daydream from an ocean away.

renault 5 etech

  • Renault revealed the production version of the 5 E-Tech yesterday, which looks shockingly similar to the concept shown in 2021.
  • The electric hatchback is capable of up to 249 miles of range and comes with front-wheel drive and a maximum of 148 horsepower.
  • The approximately $27,000 starting price is eye-catching, but sadly the French automaker has no intentions of re-entering the U.S. market.

renault 5 etech

Renault says the production car shares about 95 percent of its design with the concept, and we're glad the short, squat proportions and bold lighting will reach the streets mostly unchanged. The styling pays homage to the original Renault 5, which ran from 1972 to 1985 and featured a boxy silhouette accentuated by squared-off headlights pushed out to the edges by a thin rectangular grille. The headlights here has gained some dynamism, but echo the same look and are linked by a black trim piece, since the EV doesn't have the same cooling requirements.

The assertive fog lights—a square formed by four L-shaped LEDs—recalls Renault's rallying heritage with the Renault 5 Turbo , the legendary mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive variant from the '80s. A glossy black panel on the left side of the hood, which displays the battery level as the driver approaches the vehicle, is a nod to the vent found on the old-school gas-powered Renault 5. The new 5 E-Tech's design is rounded out by sharp vertical taillights and eye-catching badging across the tailgate and along the front edge of the door, with a stylized "5" embedded among a series of closely spaced hash marks.

renault 5 etech

Inside, Renault has fitted a large 10.1-inch touchscreen and another 10.0-inch display behind the steering wheel, which share a housing that is tilted slightly towards the driver. The layout is straightforward, with a series of buttons below the air vents and storage cubbies all around.

The 5 E-Tech is the brand's first vehicle to ride entirely on their new AmpR Small platform, sports a 100-inch wheelbase, and is said to weigh under 3307 pounds. All Renault 5 E-Tech's feature front-wheel drive courtesy of a single synchronous electric motor with three available power outputs: 148 hp, 121 hp, and 94 hp. While these numbers may seem low by American standards, it should easily be enough for navigating the narrow and twisty streets of Paris. A multi-link rear suspension is an abnormality for this small and affordable class of cars in Europe.

renault 5 etech

The largest battery on offer, a 52.0-kWh unit, provides an estimated range of 249 miles on Europe's WLTP test cycle. DC fast-charging capability will be up to 100 kW, and the 11-kW AC unit will allow for bidirectional AC charging, so you can power electrical accessories via the car or sell power back to the grid when demand for energy is high. Renault even says the 5 E-Tech can tow up to 1102 pounds.

Unfortunately, the Renault 5 E-Tech is unlikely to make it to America. While a sportier Alpine variant is planned—previewed by last year's A290_β concept —the hot hatch is not expected to be part of Alpine's expected breakthrough into the U.S. market , which is instead set to be lead by a series of electric crossovers. Excuse us while we go book a vacation to Paris.

Renault Megane E-TECH hybrid (2021-2022) review

While it's efficient and spacious, the megane plug-in hybrid suffers from a dated interior and infotainment system, which sets in back in comparison to rivals.

renault e tech tour

3.5 out of 5

  • Comfortable ride
  • Dated cabin
  • Sluggish gearbox
  • Clunky infotainment

Renault launched this  plug-in hybrid version of its Megane family hatchback eight months after introducing the plug-in variant of the Megane estate , but it wasn't on sale for very long, with both models bowing out of production in mid-2022.

The Megane E-TECH was one of several electrified hatchbacks on the market, with plug-in versions of the  Vauxhall Astra , Peugeot 308 and Volkswagen Golf  also available. Under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre petrol engine coupled with a 64bhp electric motor powered by a 9.8kWh battery.

The combined output is 158bhp and you get a 30-mile pure-electric driving range – the same as the plug-in estate. However, the hatchback is more efficient, capable of up to 235mpg and just 28g/km CO2 emissions.

Renault Megane E-TECH hybrid hatchback

Rapid charging isn’t available on the Megane E-TECH; its top-up speed is limited to just 3.6kW, which translates to around three hours to fully replenish the battery. There are three driving modes in the Megane E-TECH: ‘Pure' keeps the car in electric mode for as long as possible, while 'MySense' automatically mixes electric and engine power for the best efficiency and 'Sport' offers you maximum power at the expense of some efficiency. By the end of our time in the car, we'd only just depleted the battery, with the dashboard claiming we’d achieved over 90mpg.

Unsurprisingly, the hatchback and estate versions of the Megane drive very similarly, with both performing best in town in Pure mode. That’s thanks to the electric motor’s 250Nm of torque, which allows you to pull away smoothly, in addition to the Megane’s light steering and comfortable ride at lower speeds.

Things are less impressive when you aren’t relying solely on the electric motor. It’s not the petrol engine that's the problem, as that's generally very smooth and quiet, unless you really put your foot down. The issue is the Renault’s clutchless six-speed automatic transmission, which isn’t the best we’ve experienced, but the only one available for the plug-in Megane. Occasionally the gearbox falters when transitioning from electric to petrol power, resulting in either a jerk in your momentum or a pause in power delivery.

Renault Megane E-TECH hybrid hatchback

Also, despite its up-to-date powertrain, the Megane is showing its age inside. This car’s smaller, and cheaper, stablemates like the latest Clio , Captur and Arkana hybrids all have a nicer cabin design. Plus, while you do get a seven-inch portrait infotainment touchscreen in entry-level models, or a 9.3-inch unit in higher-spec R.S. Line cars, the graphics feel tired and it’s not the most responsive system on the market. The digital dials also aren’t as sharp as some models in this class.

Practicality also takes a hit with the switch to plug-in hybrid-only power, with boot space dropping from 473 litres in the now-discontinued petrol version of the car down to 308 litres in the E-TECH. It’s still more than you’ll get in a Golf GTE, though, and there's still plenty of head and legroom for passengers.

The Megane -E-TECH's low  Benefit-in-Kind rate  was attractive for company-car drivers when it was new, and its comfortable ride and spacious interior are appealing to secondhand buyers today. But the dated interior was the car’s downfall, causing it to fall behind many of its rivals.

All-new Megane E-TECH Electric: road-trip to the heart of innovations - Episode 5

renault mégane e-tech electric

A platform engineered to enhance inside space and interior design

Join Jean-Baptiste Nicolet, host of the TheiCollection YouTube channel, as he takes us on a road-trip on board the All-new Renault Megane E-TECH Electric, journeying through a selection of innovative features that gave rise to a number of patents. In this fifth episode, he stops at Beuvron-en-Auge, one of France’s most beautiful villages, before heading back to Paris.

Something about the stunning scenery in Normandy prompts Jean-Baptiste to contemplate the car’s interior looks. He loves the modern feel and roominess in the cockpit, and calls an engineer at Renault to find out more about how they pulled off this feeling of weightlessness and spaciousness inside. Marc, a platform architecture expert, tells him that it all started with a simple idea – that wasn’t all that simple to apply: relocating the heating and air conditioning unit. This bulky component is usually built into the dashboard, but they shifted it under the bonnet, where the engine usually is. This was possible for two reasons: electric motors are so much more compact than combustion engines and, most importantly, the Renault engineers who came up with this patented innovation are so resourceful.

Marc Yvetot

Our goal on the Megane E-TECH Electric was to open up more space inside without increasing outside volume, because we wanted to keep the car compact. So we broke new ground, with a patented system to fasten the heating and air conditioning unit inside the engine compartment, so that the Design Department could have free rein to streamline the dashboard as much as possible.

Jean-Baptiste hits the road again, after finding out about the smart idea behind the All-new Megane E-TECH Electric’s roomy interior and sleek design. And, for sure, he will be shedding light on other innovative features before he gets back to Paris!

Renault’s fully electric E-Tech range : remember how much you loved electric cars

A new communications campaign celebrating current and future models in renault’s fully electric e-tech range will be broadcast in europe from 15 january..

13 January 2023

renault e tech tour

In 2019, Renault launched the E-Tech label, which brings together the brand’s full hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all‑electric technologies.

As part of the Renaulution strategic plan, Renault announced its intention to reinvent and extend its electric vehicle range. The Mégane E-Tech Electric, on sale since last year, and the All-New Kangoo E-Tech Electric, on sale as of this year, will be joined by three new electric vehicles – electric versions of the Scénic, the Renault 5 and the Renault 4 – by 2025.

The brand’s light commercial vehicle range is also getting the electric treatment, expanding to include the Kangoo Van E-Tech Electric and the All-New Master Van E-Tech Electric last year and the All-New Trafic Van E‑Tech Electric this year.

Renault’s new TV advertisement presents its current and future all-electric E-Tech range, showcasing currently available passenger and light-commercial vehicles, as well as future models represented by show cars, including the 4EVER Trophy concept car, the Renault 5 Prototype and the Renault Scénic Vision.

The ad shows the vehicles driving around a miniature track, drawing a parallel between the toy electric cars that children play with and the somewhat larger electric cars that make adults enjoy driving once more.

The idea behind the ad was to transport viewers back to their childhood and remind them they always had a soft spot for electric cars.

The set, which included toys, trees, cornfields and buildings, was entirely handcrafted, giving the ad a particularly realistic feel.

The ad features the song “Electricity” by legendary band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.

A preview of the ad will be shown at the 2023 edition of the European Motor Show in Brussels. Following this, the ad will be broadcast on French television first – as part of Renault’s series of resolutions for change, from 15 to 21 January – then in other countries.

Enter the era of the electrical revolution

A pioneer with a vision more than 10 years ago. A European leader today. 10 billion e-kilometres travelled, more than 30,000 employees specifically trained in electric vehicles, and innovation at the very heart of the Alliance: a unique combination that gives Renault Group the competitive edge to offer innovative, sustainable mobility solutions that generate value.

Electrification is a key priority of Renault Group’s ‘Renaulution’ plan – a strategic lever that pivots the Group’s business model towards technology and energy – as it once again becomes a precursor in the value chain of new mobilities. Renault Group paves the way for a dawning era of automotives. A new era that can be felt quite strongly at IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich. Immersion.

luca de meo

“At the heart of our Renaulution strategic plan, revealed in early 2021, there is an ambition: to move from volume to value with a clear focus on electrification and master the entire electric vehicle value chain. With the All-new Megane E-TECH Electric, we are now turning this vision into reality and unveiling the first model to embody the Renaulution.”

A complete industrial overhaul is underway. Strategic announcements made last June at eWays Electro Pop laid the groundwork on which we continue to drive our electric revolution: developing sustainable electric ecosystems, making bold technological decisions, and striving for future models to have a decisive competitive edge.

At the heart of this vision is a clear positioning, spearheaded by a “Made in Europe” ethos. The secret to the Renaulution lies in how we bring together our network of suppliers and partners so our brands can innovate and create value. The All-new Megane E-TECH Electric fully embodies our new strategy and sets the tone for future transformations awaiting all our brands. But beyond our new EV models, we are committed to building an unprecedented ecosystem that covers all grounds.

This begins by completely changing our industrial operations: we now cover electric vehicles in their entirety, from production to recycling. Our plants in Douai, Maubeuge, and Ruitz are the foundations of this new chapter in our history. In joining forces, they form the ‘Made in Renault’ industrial ecosystem known as ElectriCity that will also include an EV battery Gigafactory in the near future. The EV hub is located in northern France and brings Europe even closer to the heart of the Group’s strategy, all the while serving to drive the Alliance’s industrial excellence. The aim is to stimulate innovation and efficiency and thus become the most competitive production centre in this region of the world by producing 400,000 electric vehicles per year.

Having created a favourable environment for our next generation of electric vehicles, we can now move on to developing new technology. And with a 10-year lead in the electric vehicle sector, we are already thinking the next generation. Developed within the Alliance , we are introducing an all-new powertrain that is lighter, more compact, more powerful and, above all, more high-performing than ever. It goes hand in hand with work that goes into our vehicle platforms, which are constantly pushing the limits in terms of modularity.

Innovation is our guiding light for the near future. In manufacturing our upcoming models, ElectriCity’s assembly lines will use our two newest EV-specific modular platforms, CMF-EV and CMF-BEV. These platforms present endless creative opportunities that will benefit the entire Alliance:

  • The CMF-EV platform , used by All-new Megane E-TECH Electric, will be our new modular electric platform for C/D-segment vehicles. It will push the boundaries in terms of design, spaciousness, versatility, and also energy efficiency, without compromising on comfort or driving pleasure.
  • The CMF-BEV platform , for B-segment vehicles, will pave the way for models with an unrivalled performance-to-price ratio. Among them, the future electric versions of our iconic Renault 5 and Renault 4.

In the coming years, no fewer than 10 new EV models from Renault and Alpine will be created using our modular platforms.

IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich is an ideal opportunity for our brands Renault, Dacia, and Mobilize to each showcase a unique model that symbolises our electrical revolution. How about we show you exactly what they look like on site?

Innovation in Munich, as if you were there

All-new Megane Renault E-TECH Electric: The new vision Megane

A concentrate of “made in france” design and technology for a heightened driving experience.

The All-new Megane E-TECH Electric is the first “Made in Electricity” vehicle, manufactured at the Douai factory in northern France, in the heart our new EV industrial hub. It is also the first model to embody Renault’s ‘Nouvelle Vague’, paving the way for vehicles that harness more innovation and more technology. The ‘new vision’ Megane – all-electric and digital native – is fully integrated into the electrical and digital ecosystem of users. Thanks to the Alliance-developed CMF-EV platform, this powerful saloon pushes the boundaries in terms of design, space-to-wheelbase ratio, driving pleasure, and versatility.

Sensual-tech’: sensual, high-tech design

The All-new Megane E-TECH Electric is the first model of the new generation of ‘EV native’ Renault vehicles. Design around the CMF-EV platform, it is electrical to its core. The first vehicle to proudly display the new Renault logo , its dynamic proportions combining aerodynamics and generous volumes place Megane as a modern and future-forward design.

Its interior offers a new experience of life on board. Our approach in terms of interior design has been to design the cockpit as if it were a living room, with homely furnishings. More space and ergonomics, for additional well-being on board. The interior mood lighting exemplifies the extensive efforts put in by the design teams: during the day or night, unique light moods based on the circadian rhythms mean you are always in synch with your vehicle.

State-of-the-art technology for a more connected experience

The electrical revolution is revolutionizing the automotive industry to the point that it is changing the role cars play in our ecosystems, and that means changes both inside and out. We have therefore reinvented on-board technology to make the All-new Megane E-TECH Electric a connected object that is as intuitive to use as a smartphone or tablet. The crowning jewel of the cockpit is the brand new OpenR screen that combines the instrument panel and multimedia screen in one single surface. Run by the new OpenR Link system, it was developed with Google and based on the renowned Android OS.

Your favourite apps are now directly accessible on board via the Google Voice Assistant! Advanced customization, remote controlled climate control, planning and route optimisation for long journeys: the All-new Megane E-TECH Electric offers a full-fledged experience of connected electrical mobility. More than a just car, it is a true service. Its design represents its soul, where technology brings the vehicle to life.

All-new Megane, all-new sensations!

The CMF-EV platform used for the All-new Megane E-TECH Electric ensures a comfortable, dynamic, agile, and precise driving experience. In a nutshell, it’s a pleasure to drive! With 10 years of expertise in electric vehicles, we have applied all our knowledge to offer balanced performance and total versatility. For example, the All-new Megane E-TECH Electric harnesses the new and more powerful electrically excited synchronous motor running at 160 kW, or 218 hp. That is as powerful as a GTI! At the same time, it guarantees optimum energy efficiency with a range of up to 470 km and a record charging time of 300 km WLTP in just 30 minutes on a 130-kW fast charging point. In real-world terms, that is the same as a one-way trip on a motorway from Paris-Lyon, Paris-La Rochelle, Hanover-Copenhagen or even Munich-Venice with just one 30-minute stop! It goes without saying that Megane is in it for the long haul!

Dacia Jogger: for large families in need of a getaway

An ‘all-rounder’ car for large families, soon fitted with a hybrid engine.

The 2021 edition of IAA Mobility in Munich is a year where we reinvent our most popular iconic models. After Renault’s compact saloon, it is now Dacia’s turn to completely rethink its family car. In terms of design but also engines, as this latest iteration will feature a hybrid version as of 2023 thereby becoming the most accessible 7-seater hybrid on the market. Currently available in two engine types, including the ECO-G 100, Dacia Jogger is well suited to whatever use a family may have. A truly versatile car, it is the Dacia ‘all-rounder’.

Escape into the great outdoors with the whole family

With its outdoor spirit, Dacia Jogger is made for venturing out into the open air and reconnecting with nature. Its generous dimensions, dynamic and robust profile, and its capacity to seat up to 7 adults are features often sought-after by families looking for versatility. This new model is the perfect companion for every family trip, from the mundane to the unexpected. With no fewer than 60 possible passenger compartment configurations and 24 litres of storage distributed throughout, Jogger boasts unrivalled modularity and all the essential features for this all-rounder to quickly become a family favourite.

It is simple, Dacia Jogger is true to the spirit of Dacia

Dacia Jogger is a prefect representation of the Dacia spirit: clever, practical, simple, and economical. It is most apparent with the Media Control system that can be run using the free app available on all smartphones. Offer essential features also means offering the latest generation of technology. As with Sandero and Sandero Stepway, Dacia uses the Alliance’s new modular CMF-B platform for maximum space and versatility. The Dacia spirit is also about freedom of choice: from on-board equipment to the engine, the brand offers customizable, tailored solutions for everyone to create their own essential design.

The Future is in the headlights: the brand evolves with the times

Dacia Jogger embodies Dacia’s new brand identity, with a style that evokes endurance and the thirst for getting out into nature. It offers a range of engines that different desires and uses. The all-new petrol engine TCe 110 includes technical innovations that increase output, improve fuel consumption, and reduce CO2 emissions. Dacia is the only manufacturer to offer petrol/LPG dual-fuel engines across the entire range. Bearing the ECO-G label, it is a guarantee of lower CO2 emissions and greater range (up to 1,100 km) thanks to its dual-tank system. Finally, electrification is still evolving at Dacia. Along with Spring – the electric city car – Jogger will become the brand’s first hybrid model in 2023. And that’s just the beginning.

Mobilize Limo: making mobility carbon-free

At last, ride-hailing transport now has its own flexible e-mobility solution.

At IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich, Mobilize will unveil its first all-electric saloon for the ‘ride-hailing’ market of taxi and chauffeur services. Mobilize Limo is a flexible and innovative mobility solution geared towards private transport professionals on a subscription-only basis with flexible rates and mobility offers that include both the car and associated services. This new vehicle reflects the Mobilize brand’s vision of going beyond just automotives by offering mobility, energy and data-related services for individuals, companies, and municipalities.

A comfortable, quiet saloon for driving around town

We know full well that driving on city roads is increasingly complex. Cities are congested, noisy, and increasingly subject to traffic restrictions that seek to make them more liveable and breathable, such as the recent creation of Low Emission Zones (LEZ). This all-electric saloon is a response to the rise in environmental awareness that is being felt in many sectors, including mobility. Mobilize Limo is a protective bubble of silence and comfort within the urban jungle, a simple and affordable mobility solution for drivers and passengers alike. From the outset, everything has been designed around notions of service and use, to come up with the most practical solution possible. With a range verging on 450 km (pending official WLTP range), it means chauffeurs can work two full days without having to recharge.

A flexible ‘à la carte’ mobility service

Starting in July 2022, Mobilize Limo will be marketed through flexible packages that include both the vehicle and additional services. A selection of ‘à la carte’ mobility solutions will ensure professional drivers who are accustomed to great flexibility will find peace of mind be they full-time, part-time, or one-off drivers. The full range of services can be tailored, with as many options as there are different uses and needs! Thanks to corporate partnerships with a number of start-ups, Mobilize Limo will also manage additional services that taxi and chauffeur drivers need when it comes client dispatch, payment, and recharge solutions.

More than just a vehicle, an affordable ‘zero-emission’ model ideally suited to the ride-hailing industry

Mobilize is a brand that is committed to widespread carbon-free mobility. Together with Mobilize Limo, it is shaking up the ride-hailing industry at a time when electrification is helping usher in an era where mobility is more sustainable and eco-friendly. Beyond automotives, the broader mobility industry must be more electric and shared. In an age of multi-modal mobility, developing solutions for the ‘ride-hailing’ market is both an economic and responsible decision for a ‘hybrid’ brand that seeks to create a truly carbon-free mobility sector.

It is clear that taxi and chauffeur drivers spend most of their time on urban and peri-urban roads. So, it makes sense to give them a tool that is adapted to their business but one that is also compatible with traffic restrictions that impact their working environment. This is one step closer to an entirely carbon-free mobility sector.

Renault trucks e-tech t coming to ets2.

Exciting times are ahead! We're happy to announce that the very first electric vehicle coming to Euro Truck Simulator 2 will be the Renault Trucks E-Tech T ! We're proud to partner with  Renault Trucks  once more, honoured by their trust in us to introduce their latest state-of-the-art, fully electric truck to our #BestCommunityEver .

Make sure to read the whole blog, as there is a lot of important information about this truck and an upcoming design competition you don't want to miss!

renault e tech tour

First, let's take a few steps back and look at our past projects we did in cooperation with Renault Trucks which eventually led to bringing this truck into our game. In Autumn 2023, we were invited to Lyon for a design contest among selected influencers and truckers. Guided by specialists from Renault Trucks, LumiLor and our own talented 2D graphic artist Annie, the group crafted designs featuring the innovative LumiLor paint job – a cutting-edge method that allows layers of colour on any surface to be illuminated by small electric impulses. While we were there, we also toured the Renault Trucks assembly plant, test-drove the E-Tech T, gathered reference materials for our vehicle department, and captured the sounds of this remarkable truck. You read more about it here or watch the video below.

In December, two designs were chosen for the public vote in which our community also participated. In an exciting showdown, the stunning Diamond Echo and Lightning Bolt designs went head-to-head in the vote. Ultimately, the Diamond Echo emerged victorious, making automotive history by bringing this unique paint job to life on a truck for the very first time!

renault e tech tour

Later, Renault Trucks invited us to attend and amplify the reach of the grand reveal event on April 9 at their headquarters in Lyon. We took this amazing opportunity and teased what was to come by placing a special truck model under a blue veil in front of selected Renault Trucks dealers in ETS2, which you can read about here . It was a great pleasure and experience to share that grand reveal with our #BestCommunityEver through a live stream directly from the venue which you can replay below.

We are incredibly honoured that Renault Trucks has acknowledged our community as a strong and desired audience to share this moment with. Having the President of Renault Trucks, Bruno Blin, the Design Director, Paul Daintree, and the Chief Designer, Vincent Froidevaux, join us in the stream was a source of immense pride. It was exciting not only to witness the E-Tech T but also their entire range of fully electric vehicles.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, our teams were hard at work recreating this truck for ETS2, ensuring that we could bring it into the game for our community to enjoy. We are now proud to announce that this fully electric truck will be the very first EV truck in Euro Truck Simulator 2. Its arrival is close, expected not long after the release of the 1.50 update!

The Renault Trucks E-Tech T boasts impressive specifications, including a powerful 540kWh battery that enables it to cover up to 500 kilometres on a single charge when using a DC charger during a one-hour break. Equipped with a 4x2 configuration and a 12-speed Optidriver gearbox, it offers a seamless driving experience. It has a Gross Combination Weight (GCW) of 44 tons, highlighting its impressive hauling capacity. Additionally, its maximum regen rate matches its maximum output, reaching an impressive 490kW.

renault e tech tour

As we eagerly anticipate the arrival of the E-Tech T, it's crucial to address some key considerations. Just like in the real world, transitioning to electric vehicles poses unique challenges in our virtual realm. While our team has worked tirelessly to bring the E-Tech T to ETS2, our in-game infrastructure isn't fully ready to support electric vehicles. Gas stations, initially designed for traditional fuel vehicles, can't easily become electric charging stations without major modifications.

Despite these challenges, we're dedicated to promoting electrification within our game. Integrating more EV trucks into ETS2, making them fully customizable and accessible, is our goal. This process will take time as we navigate game development complexities.

Currently, we're embarking on an experimental phase, our initial steps toward in-game electrification. That is why the E-Tech T, along with a few other electric trucks planned for the future, will be introduced in a special mode and will be accessible only through the Quick Jobs section. Our cautious approach ensures a smooth experience as we gradually integrate electric vehicles into our virtual world.

renault e tech tour

The introduction of the E-Tech T is a big milestone that marks the beginning of our journey toward in-game electrification - a historic moment for our community. We're incredibly proud of the years of collaboration with various partners, and the continuous growth of our game and community. It's a testament that our game is now recognized as a platform worthy of featuring the latest projects from our partners, including their desire to introduce electric trucks into ETS2. We are happy that the beautiful and technologically advanced E-Tech T is the very first to come and we eagerly await your feedback on its quietness, acceleration, behaviour, and smoothness and hope you will have fun driving it in Euro Truck Simulator 2.

renault e tech tour

But that's not all! Renault Trucks highly values our community and enjoys collaborating on exciting projects with our ETS2 fanbase. Following the remarkable moment when the Renault Trucks team utilized LumiLor's paint technology for the first time in automotive history, and after the grand reveal of the truck adorned in this unique design, we're happy to reveal another exciting opportunity for our community.

Although, due to technical constraints, the LumiLor paint job won't be featured in the game with the E-Tech T vehicle for now, we have something special in store for our community. We're partnering with Renault Trucks for another community design contest similar to the one we did here !

In this new contest, our community is invited to assist the Renault Trucks team in designing a second paint job for the E-Tech T truck. This design will later be recreated on another fully electric and real E-Tech T vehicle! It's truly an incredible opportunity for our community. You can apply here !

Everyone is welcome to participate in this design contest. Whether you're a skilled modder with numerous paint jobs under your belt, a talented graphic artist proficient in software like Photoshop, or someone with a perfect idea for a paint job, you can join in! Simply download images of the truck, unleash your creativity with pencils or colours, and submit a photo of your proposed design. Let's make this design contest an unforgettable experience and showcase the creativity of our amazing fanbase!

renault e tech tour

We strongly recommend that participants carefully review the Terms and Conditions and the rules of the design contest which you can find here . This ensures that their design has a chance to be selected by Renault Trucks as one of the five finalists, from which the community will vote for the best design. The winning design will be revealed in the future, but it remains to be seen when and where. Remember, when creating your design, be sure to paint over the ultramarine blue colour with white, and try to incorporate elements that reflect electrification and electric powertrain.

And that's not all! As a token of our appreciation for their creativity and dedication, all finalists will receive an exclusive package of Renault Trucks and SCS Software merchandise, along with exciting gifts from another esteemed partner, Thrustmaster !

renault e tech tour

The winning design will also be included in Euro Truck Simulator 2 when the E-Tech T truck becomes available for players to own in the game!

renault e tech tour

We hope you are as excited as us to try out this electric marvel when it comes to ETS2! Until then, stay connected with us and all the latest information through our social media channels, make sure to follow us on  X/Twitter ,  Instagram ,  Facebook , and  TikTok .

With just over five months until IAA TRANSPORTATION, interested industry visitors can now secure their tickets for the event days. Researchers at Purdue University are developing a system that would allow electric trucks to wirelessly charge while driving on highways. Since vehicles travel much faster on highways than in cities, they require more power to charge, according to the researchers. Their plan involves creating a system capable of charging semitrailers as they travel at speeds of 65 miles per hour. This system is set to be implemented on a test track in Indiana, where special coils installed beneath the roadway would transfer energy directly to the passing vehicles. This would be particularly beneficial for heavy commercial vehicles, as it would allow them to charge while in motion, reducing the need for large batteries and increasing their efficiency and operational capability in freight transport.

renault e tech tour

Renault Trucks has transformed their heavy electric tractor, the E-Tech T, into a show truck featuring luminescent paint. The E-Tech T Diamond Echo is painted with a special luminescent paint that glows under electrical impulses. Renault Trucks is now taking it on a tour across Europe, aiming to engage with industry experts and discuss the benefits and potential uses of electric mobility. The tour includes seven countries, 60 stops, and over 10,000 kilometers. It kicked off at the factory in Bourg-en-Bresse, where the Diamond Echo was assembled. The show truck will be touring Germany from June 26 to July 14.

renault e tech tour

ZF has produced the thousandth drive of its CeTrax lite series, an electric central drive designed for light commercial vehicles. This drive is already successfully used by Isuzu in their ELF EV electric vehicles, which are specifically designed for urban delivery traffic. The CeTrax lite, which delivers a peak power of 150 kW and torque of 1,500 Nm, enables efficient and emission-free mobility in urban environmental zones. For 2024, ZF also announced the launch of an advanced model of CeTrax 2. Originally intended for construction vehicles, it will now also be used in heavy trucks and buses. The advantage: it fits into the transmission space of a conventional vehicle, allowing manufacturers the flexibility to offer commercial vehicles on the same platform with either conventional internal combustion engines or electric drives.

renault e tech tour

VDL Bus & Coach has inaugurated a new factory in Roeselare, Belgium, dedicated to producing electric buses for the Citea series. According to a press release, the construction of the facility reflects the company’s "sustainability and innovation philosophy," from the building's design and its heating and cooling systems to the integrated solar panels and green roof. Spanning 77,000 square meters, the plant is expected to produce 800 buses per year. Further details have yet to be disclosed. Additionally, Citea electric buses will continue to be manufactured at the Valkenswaard site as well.

renault e tech tour

Voith has developed a turnkey Plug & Drive H2 storage system for heavy-duty vehicles, operating at a pressure of 700 bar. This technology offers a higher energy density compared to the 350-bar systems typically used in heavy-duty vehicles. With the integration of these advanced tanks, which have already received the necessary road approvals in Europe, Voith aims to fully leverage hydrogen technology and contribute to the decarbonization of heavy-duty transport, as announced by the company.

Boulogne-billancourt, may 16 th , 2022 - the board of directors of renault group unanimously approved the signing of agreements to sell 100% of renault group's shares in renault russia to moscow city entity and its 67.69% interest in avtovaz to nami (the central research and development automobile and engine institute). .

The closing of these transactions is not subject to any conditions, and all required approvals have been obtained.

The agreement provides for an option for Renault Group to buy back its interest in AVTOVAZ, exercisable at certain times during the next 6 years.

"Today, we have taken a difficult but necessary decision; and we are making a responsible choice towards our 45,000 employees in Russia, while preserving the Group's performance and our ability to return to the country in the future, in a different context. I am confident in the Renault Group's ability to further accelerate its transformation and exceed its mid-term targets," said Luca de Meo, CEO Renault Group.
